Punny Names in Internet media.

  • This piece of art references a pair of famous rivers, by showing a Tigress named Euphrates.
  • Apparently you can't have a sports blog network without those. For proof, see SB Nation (the Chicago Bulls have "Blog a Bull", the Phoenix Coyotes "Five for Howling", and the Atlanta Falcons one is "The Falcoholic"), ESPN's True Hoop (Milwaukee Bucks: "Bucksketball", Detroit Pistons: "Piston Powered") and Sports Illustrated's Fansided (Cleveland Indians: "Wahoo’s on First", Pittsburgh Penguins: "Pens Labyrinth").
    • Once, a franchise rename killed a pun: the Charlotte Bobcats one was "Rufus on Fire". Once the Bobcats returned to be the Hornets — and Mascot Rufus T. Lynx was decommissioned in favor of old mascot Hugo the Hornet — they became At The Hive, the name for the old New Orleans Hornets blog (renamed "The Bird Writes" once that team became the Pelicans). Of course the announcement had some punny suggestions by both the head blogger (Hugo's Boss, Southern Hosbeetality) and the commenters ("The Buzz Is Back In Town").
  • 5 Second Films: Invoked to a most awesome degree in "The Ballad of Truck Thunders".
  • During one of The Annotation Station's riffs, one annotator replaced somebody's punny name with "Stu P. Idpun".
  • In the Anti-Cliché and Mary-Sue Elimination Society, Jared's Sealed Army in a Can, the Little Plastic Green Beret, all have names that make puns when used with their rank, such as General Idea, Major Detail, and Captain Crunch.
  • The Recurring Character Erwe Von Esse from El Chigüire Bipolar, roughly meaning 'that prat' in Spanish.
  • In Dawn of a New Age: Oldport Blues, Zia Brayne gains the ability of telepathy and mind manipulation.
  • Death Note: The Abridged Series (kpts4tv) has a lot of these:
Takada: How long have you been seeing Light?
Misa: I see lights all the time! There's like a billion of them on the I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore... Day Tree!
  • In Demesne the only other mammals besides humans are aquatic species known collectively as fursh. The most common ones seen in the story are seels - they're like seals, but longer.
  • Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog has a woman called Fury Leika on the Evil League of Evil, as named in the credits. As in, you know, that quote.
  • Though only seen once, Dragon Ball Z Abridged continues the vegetable puns for the Saiyans that were established in the main series. In a flashback, it's shown that King Vegeta had a messenger named Butaraga.
  • French Baguette Intelligence:
    • When YouTube forced Fuck Cares to remove most of the swearing from his videos, he changed his name to 'Faux Cares', which is pronounced similarly to 'Fuck Cares'.
    • Art vs "Art" video has Cypher, whose on-screen name is a shortened version of his username 'Lou Cypher', a pun on 'Lucifer'.
  • Sinister Minister Deacon Struck in the genre “deconstruct” -ing superhero blog novel Flyover City!
  • Several of the shops from Gaia Online have punny names. "Sam's Body and Parts" and "Ruby's Rack" are two major examples.
  • Every character in the short story Global Spinning has a punny name, generally pertaining to their professional, from geologist Rocky Hill to anti-abortion activist Concepcion Santos to banker Rich Buckhalter, among others.
  • Hotmail, the first-ever webmail service, was named as a pun on HTML, the language in which web pages are written. (HoTMaiL — the name is still to this day capitalised that way in some internal URLs.) Which hasn't stopped some filthy-minded journalists putting their own interpretations on the name.
  • KateModern features a character named Justin Credible.
  • The League of Intergalactic Cosmic Champions had an unkillable Red Shirt named Scott Free & Quito Power was named because she was the key to power.
  • Life Hacks For Kids: "Tic-Tac-Totally Fun Hack"
  • Manatee Girl: The Movie has main villain... The In Humanatee.
  • An episode of Mr. Mendo's Hack Attack claimed the director the infamous Pterodactyl Dinosaur Spermo Plasmoids was named "Dean O'file" (dino-phile).
  • Noob has a few:
    • A Captain Ersatz of Jack Sparrow with No Sense of Direction is named Jack Céparou, "Céparou" sounding both close to "Sparrow" and just like an informal way of saying "which way is it?" in the original French.
    • A Celebrity Star that decides to play an archer takes the Online Alias of Grobin Des Doigts, which is a play on "Robin Des Bois", the French name of Robin Hood.
    • The creator of Reflets d'Acide, known as "JBX", plays a character named Jibedix for a few episodes. "Jibedix" sounds like JB-10 note  in French.
  • The two scientists who show up in The Nostalgia Chick reviews are named Dr. Cochram Block and Dr. Coquette Tease.
  • Open Blue features a debaucherous, virgin-sacrifice-seeking pagan god named "Tototl", which is the Nahuatl word for "bird". Like the English word "bird", however, "Tototl" can also mean the "other" kind of "bird".
  • Princess May Xnocens (makes no sense, referring to the plot) as well as Rhett October, who is introduced while other characters are looking for him.
  • A subtle one would be Razelle Anne Serchendistroy, which would be a play on two phrases "Raise Hell" and "Search and Destroy".
  • All of the politicians in The Redistricting Game, starting with party heads Libby Rahl and Connor Servative.
    • Choice examples include military veteran Arnie Surplus and the pro-technology Celia Cohn-Valley.
  • Multiple characters in Scott The Woz have punny names, such as the therapist Scott visited, Dr. Jerry Attricksnote ; and the lawyer Scott went up against in "The Trial", Liza Lotsnote .
  • Sheriff Domestic has Dick Head, one of the main protagonists. While it could unfortunately refer to the phallic shape of his head, "Dick" is an antiquated slang term for a detective. While Dick Head is more of a sheriff than a detective, they both correlate to law enforcement, and it could also refer to Dick Head being the "head" of law enforcement officials.
  • Sideman Tobi Brown goes by the alias of "Tobi Lerone", based off the chocolate bar, Toblerone.
  • The Star Wars Wiki was inevitably nicknamed "Wookieepedia". Likewise, the Lego Wiki is "Brickipedia".
  • Steam Train covers computer games — that is, Steam games.
  • Stuff You Like's Sursum Ursa (Sursum-up, Ursa-bear. Her surname? Bearup.)
  • Quite a few article titles on TV Tropes.
  • The Huge Manatee from Zoofights 3.
  • The satirical article Air Force General Proposes New Defense System "Just a Fuckton of Bullets" mentions the researcher Dan Maku note .
  • The Jolly Roger Telephone Company is a web-based service which provides bots that are designed to waste the time of telemarketers and other unwanted callers. One of these is actually a pair of two bots, male and female, that are "biz-bots" to waste the time of cold callers to businesses. The female biz-bot is called "Polly Crackers," a play on the phrase "Polly want a cracker?" (The male bot is named simply "Bill.")
