The people of the Russian Empire ended centuries of tsarist misrule and abuse in bloody revolution - and in 1922 they set about turning that revolution into a utopia. It would be an example for all the world, and the cornerstone of a global society that would recognize the dignity of the masses and ensure equality and justice for everyone who lived in its embrace.

But they have enemies on all sides who mean to see them fail. Or worse....

Soviet Belles in General

Destroyers (DD)

     Orfey-class

Voykov

Voiced by: Jenya Davidyuk

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/113_big_7.jpeg
Troubled. Moody. Mature.
"Death was coming for me, at last... but you fought death back, Kapitan. My name is Voykov. Are you always so fearless? I'll be interested to see."

Belle of the Orfey-class destroyer Voykov (also spelled "Voikov"). Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for Soviet captains.

  • Chainsaw-Grip BFG: Voykov's two-handed weapon. Ironically, despite it being a large weapon for her as a Belle, it's a rather small rifle for a warship as a whole.
  • Fragile Speedster: Comes with the territory of being a destroyer. As an older destroyer with a relatively small displacement, she's even among the more fragile destroyers, though also as a consequence of that age, she's not particularly fast as destroyers go.
  • Small Girl, Big Gun: Downplayed, but her weapon is still over half her height in length.
  • Starter Equipment: An option for Soviet captains.
  • Thoughtcrime: As a Trotskist Voykov would be guilty of thoughtcrime in Stalin's Soviet Union.

     Leningrad-class

Leningrad

Voiced by: Sarah Natochenny

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/106_big_8.jpeg
Dangerous. Dreamer.
"Ho ho, Kapitan... you have the glint of greatness in your eyes. I'm Leningrad - you wouldn't mind helping me topple a few governments, would you?"

Belle of the destroyer Leningrad. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Badass Bookworm: Leningrad is a quite large and effective destroyer, and she also reads enough that new books for her are considered a major expense for the ship.
  • The Gadfly: Leningrad delights in provoking people, whether for a particular reason, or just to try to make them question their own positions, with Mahan being a particular favorite target.

Moskva

Voiced by: Daria Chegaieva

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/108_big_3.jpeg
Stately. Enigmatic.
"You showed some grace out there on the seas, Kapitan... few understand the importance of such a quality in battle. I'm Moskva - thank you for your help."

Belle of the destroyer Moskva. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for Soviet captains.

  • The Perfectionist: Once she's inspired to resume her ballet dancing, she runs herself absolutely ragged trying to get a particularly difficult sequence of steps perfect.
  • Ramming Always Works: Narrowly averted by her awakening. On the afternoon of September 1st, 1939, Moskva encountered four Vanity-class Morgana battleships near Varna. One of them attempted to ram Moskva and would have destroyed the ship then and there for sure had Moskva the Belle not awakened and pushed the ship to greater speeds than she should have been able to make and reduced what would have been the end of the ship to an ugly scrape.
  • You Are in Command Now: Her first words after awakening were addressed to her acting captain and were as follows "You. You are now in command. Go earn your crew's trust, or die trying."

     Gnevny-class

Gnevny

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/101_big_1.jpeg
Wrathful. Tenacious. Volatile.
"Next time the Morganas pull a stunt like that, I'LL PULL THEM LIMB FROM LIMB! YOU HEAR ME? Anyway, thanks for the assist, Kapitan. I'm Gnevny."

Belle of the destroyer Gnevny. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Hypocrite: Gnevny bullies her sister Gromky over her persistent mechanical faults despite Gnevny's own less than stellar mechanical track record.
  • Meaningful Name: Gnevny means "angry", and she's certainly a little ball of anger.
  • Never My Fault: Gnevny is not good at accepting responsibility. Accidentally rams a friendly ship? They should have watched where they were going. Her hull is leaking? Must be her builders, or her crew not doing their jobs right. Regardless of what it is, it's someone else's fault and she doesn't need to work to improve herself.
  • No OSHA Compliance: She smokes cigarettes in her own magazines because that way the crew doesn't bother her. Which for their part is because they'd rather not explode.
  • Unwanted Glasses Plot: The second chapter of Gnevny's character story deals with her poor eyesight and convincing her that she needs glasses, even though she's afraid they'll make her look weak.

Gromky

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/102_big_9.jpeg
Vociferous. Exuberant.
"Whoops! I very nearly lost it all out there, didn't I? How fortunate you showed up when you did, Kapitan? My name's Gromky, by the way."

Belle of the destroyer Gromky. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Gromky has an extremely aggressive tactic where she (and the rest of the fleet) closes with the enemy at flank speed right up to brawl range, at which point all ships with torpedoes let them loose. Given the short range of most guns on destroyers, it's not an unreasonable strategy.
  • Meaningful Name: "Gromky" means "Loud" and Gromky is known both for her ship's loud mechanical noises and the Belle's tendency to emphasize words by shouting them.
  • Prone to Tears: She tends to cry when reminded of her mechanical issues.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Gromky will regularly go from speaking at a normal level to shouting a word mid-sentence and back, sometimes even more than once per sentence.

Boiky

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boiky.jpeg
Jaunty. Spry. Batty.
"One more shot from my slingshot, and I would've had her!... Still, it's probably good you came along when you did. Thanks, Kapitan - the name's Boiky."

Belle of the destroyer Boiky. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for Soviet captains.

  • Brats with Slingshots: Not a brat, but definitely uppity, she is depicted as holding a slingshot in her design. Said slingshot is useful in launching projectiles from snowballs to sea mines. She later rigs up a giant slingshot to hurl shot-out 130mm naval rifles barrels at the Morgana.
  • Must Have Caffeine: In her volume 2 story, she mentions having cut her sugar addiction from volume 1 in favor of coffee purchased from the same unnamed-but-almost-certainly-Surcouf French submarine and is similarly barely functional without it.

Light Cruisers (CL)

     Pallada-class

Aurora

Voiced by: Lucy Kozitsyna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/190_big.jpeg
Dignified. Domineering. Ruthless.
"It is not heroes that make history, Kapitan. It is history that makes heroes... and I have seen plenty of it. I am Aurora. Who will you be, I wonder?"

Belle of the light cruiser Aurora. Available for rescue in the 1939 October event.

  • Badass Normal: Not her, but rather her crew. As of October 1939, Aurora's crew boasts the only recorded human-on-Morgana kill.
  • Cool Crown: Wears one, made out of ship parts and sporting a Communist emblem. It alludes to her past as an Imperial warship and her present devotion to the Soviet cause.
  • Dirty Commies: Aurora, perhaps moreso than any other Soviet Belle represents the rigid hierarchy of the Soviet Union and keeps memorials of the execution of the Tsar's children as a vesture. Ironically, she herself looks like nothing so much as some sort of communist princess.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown:
    • At one point in her story, Aurora leaves her own ship, boards a sinking Despair, and drags the Morgana back to her own ship so she can keep whaling on her.
    • During the Winter War, Aurora performs a similar feat against the Morgana battleship Sloth, ramming the larger ship and boarding it, personally beating the snot out of the Morgana, and by sheer presence intimidating Sloth's army of killer teddy bears that had earlier in the day crippled multiple Kriegsmarine vessels. The intensity of the beatdown Aurora handed out forced Sloth to flee, at which time a submarine delivered a lethal blow with its torpedoes.

     Svetlana-class

Profintern

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/111_big_5.jpeg
Eager Leader. Political Theorist.
"What leadership skills you showed during that battle, Kapitan! My name is Profintern, and I have some theories on the subject I'd like to discuss with you..."

Belle of the light cruiser Profintern. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Powered Armor: Downplayed - She wears some manner of powered exoskeleton, presumably to use her massive hammer, providing the "powered" part, but it doesn't offer any protection beyond two rather token plates on her hip, thus lacking the "armor" part.
  • Token Minority: In an otherwise mostly atheist or secular fleet, Profintern is Jewish and actively practices her faith, though she tries to hide this.

     Admiral Nakhimov-class

Chervona Ukraina

Voiced by: Unknown

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chervona_ukraina.jpeg
Patriotic. Idealistic.
"I almost let Ukraine down... but you came to my aid, and restored my hope in the future, Kapitan. My name is Chervona Ukraina, and I thank you."

Belle of the light cruiser Chervona Ukraina. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Family of Choice: Ukraina is a strong believer in family bonds, whether it's the family you're born with or the family you choose. It's ultimately this that leads her to decide a band of pirates is redeemable.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: Ukraina firmly believes in the Soviet Union and its leadership, even after what has transpired in Ukraine on Stalin's watch.

Heavy Cruisers (CA)

     Admiral Nakhimov-class

Krasnyi Kavkaz

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/104_big_7.jpeg
Fiery. Empowered.
"I appreciate your help, Kapitan. My name is Krasny Kavkaz. I do hope you run a tight ship - I expect everyone on board to do their work competently."

Belle of the heavy cruiser Krasny Kavkaz. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Berserk Button: Krasny Kavkaz hates being called cute. At one point this is exploited to urge her to action by telling her to imagine one of the Morgana called her "cutie pie".
  • Black-and-White Morality: Kavkaz isn't mentally unstable enough to qualify for Black-and-White Insanity, but she definitely has a dualistic worldview where things are either good or evil.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Kavkaz is nominally the same class as Chervona Ukraina as she was ordered and laid down as the same class, but she was much less complete at the time of the Russian Revolution and while Ukraina was eventually completed to her original design, Kavkaz was completed five years later to a design that was essentially completely different above the waterline. Among other things, this includes a more efficient powerplant and replacing her sister's 15 130mm guns with 4 180mm guns.
  • Revenge: Kavkaz firmly believes in getting revenge for the fallen.
  • Token Minority: Krasny Kavkaz is a practicing Zoroastrian, which along with her name carries the implication that she may be Azeri, though even if she's Russian, being a Zoroastrian makes her a religious minority pretty much anywhere in the world, much less in the state atheist Soviet Union.

     Kirov-class

Kirov

Voiced by: Lauren Conn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/103_big_6.jpeg
Energetic. Swashbuckling.
"Well, hellooooooo, Kapitan! You cut quite the heroic figure, you know that? The name's Kirov... I'll make sure it's a name you remember."

Belle of the heavy cruiser Kirov. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Chummy Commies: Perhaps moreso than any other Soviet Belle, she's extremely outgoing and rejects much of the rigid hierarchy of her country.
  • Jack of All Stats: The intent of her (and by extension, her sisters') armament of 180mm guns rather than 150-155mm or 200-203mm guns was that she would be able to fill the roles other fleets used separate light and heavy cruisers for. Additionally, since the USSR was never a signatory to the Washington Naval Treaty, they didn't have the same legal incentive to pursue those gun sizes separatelynote . In-game, however, she's a lightly-armored heavy cruiser as that's what her guns would legally make her under the Washington Naval Treaty.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: While "magic" and "mundane" are relative terms when it comes to Belles and Morgana, the second volume of Kirov's story deals with facing and breaking one of the immortal wizard Koschei's curses, but especially given that Koschei has supposedly possessed a Sabotage Morgana, it's entirely possible that the entire event is just a particularly cognizant Sabotage messing with Kirov and her crew. Regardless of whether it's true magic or just Morgana abilities, the ordeal comes to an end when Sabotage is sunk.
  • Powerful, but Inaccurate: Her 180mm rifles are very powerful for their size and have fantastic performance against cruiser armor, but their close mounting in triple turrets gives them dreadful accuracy as the blast from each rifle in the turret throws the other two shells off.
  • Vodka Drunkenski: Her propensity for consuming large amounts of alcohol stands out even amongst her similarly hard-drinking countrymen (or Belles?).

Voroshilov

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victory_belles_voroshilov.png
Perceptive. Loyal. Reserved.
"I had a feeling you'd arrive, Kapitan - but please keep that between us. I am... my name is Voroshilov."

Belle of the heavy cruiser Voroshilov. Available as a bundle-only Belle in the 1940 February event.

Battleships (BB)

     Gangut-class

Marat

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/107_big_0.jpeg
Inquisitive. Analytical.
"Kapitan, my name is Marat. I have work I must attend to in the sick bay, but I thank you for your help, and look forward to discussing tactics with you later."

Belle of the battleship Marat. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Big Eater: Marat has quite the appetite, including eating a breakfast that the Captain describes as "a full breakfast for twelve".
  • Combat Medic: Marat is a practicing medic who spends much of her time working in sick bay and has a surgical scalpel as a vesture. As for the combat part, she's a battleship.
  • Deadpan Snarker: In the very first episode of the first chapter of her story, when asked why she's mopping the decks, she responds that the crew found it boring, so she decided to do it herself and give them the "delightfully exhilarating task of cleaning the heads" and if asked to at least put up a sign, says that the sign will say "Watch your step, floors are underfoot."
  • Loophole Abuse: To bypass Soviet anti-gambling laws and avoid taxation, she hosts a go tournament but stages all of the betting on an Australian-flagged vessel.
  • Mighty Glacier: Typical of older, slower battleships built in the early 20th century, Marat has good armor and firepower, but is quite slow.
  • Smart People Play Chess: In addition to her anatomical studies, Marat is an avid chess player and has an interest in other strategy games such as go.

Parizhskaya Kommuna

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/parizhskaya_kommuna_6.jpeg
Tired. Tough. Driven.
"I'm Parizhskaya Kommuna, Kapitan. *yawn* Please don't mistake my weariness for apathy. I just haven't slept in *yawn* twelve days."

Belle of the battleship Parizhskaya Kommuna. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • The Atoner: She views herself as this for her role in the Kronstadt Rebellion. Only by overworking herself to exhaustion could she make amends.
  • Immortal Life Is Cheap: At one point in her story, it's mentioned that she jumped off the ship to retrieve a lost item rather than sending a crewmember to do it. As she explains it, if the crew can't swim back, they'll drown and die, while if she can't do so, the ship need only sail on and she'll simply cease to exist in the sea and be able to rematerialize on the ship.
  • Mighty Glacier: Parizhskaya Kommuna is a classic slow battleship with heavy armor and firepower and low speed. She does however have a more recently-updated secondary and anti-air battery than her sister, Marat.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Parizhkaya Kommuna is constantly barely awake due to her workaholic tendencies leading to her foregoing sleep for days on end.
  • Workaholic: Parizhkaya Kommuna self-destructively overworks herself to the point of going for days without sleep out of perceived shame for her service for the Russian Empire as Sevastapol and then further siding against the Bolshevik Party in the Kronstadt Rebellion.

Submarines (SS)

     L-class

Bezbozhnik

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/197_big.jpeg
Reserved. Conflicted. Hopeful.
"You arrived just in time, though it wouldn't have been my first sinking. My name is... Bezbozhnik. Why don't we show these witches what we know?"

Belle of the submarine Bezbozhnik. Available for rescue in the first half of the 1940 January event.

L-3

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/l_3_1.jpeg
Dogmatic. Selfless. Cutthroat.
"For once, I thought I'd stumbled into a fight too dangerous even for the likes of me. I'm L-3, and I won't forget the service you've done my service you've done my crew, Kapitan."

Belle of the submarine L-3. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Afraid of Doctors: Due to her former namesake's death while in medical care, she's afraid of doctors and of sharing his fate of dying slowly in a hospital bed.
  • Cleavage Window: It's not as clear in her main design, but L-3's chibi reveals that her wetsuit has a star-shaped keyhole at the front.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Discussed - the captain points out the inadequacy of her attire for the cold northern weather, as well as for the standards of modesty of the time, but she insists the cold doesn't bother her. It is later shown that it does in fact bother her, but she doesn't think she can be seen showing it.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: Due to her name being changed several times, she'd much rather stick with her current name as long as possible rather than be known by another name.
  • Named After Someone Famous: She was at one point named Frunzenets after Mikhail Frunze, and while she's since been renamed, that name left a mark on her and she's still a great admirer of Frunze.

     Shch-class

Shch-205 "Nerpa"

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nerpa_5.jpeg
Nurturing. Silly.
"Kapitan! Thank you so much for your help! I'm Nerpa, and I really hope you're not too irritated by silly jokes... because you're going to hear a lot of them."

Belle of the Shch-class submarine Shch-205 "Nerpa". Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She may be a rather light-hearted and impolitic Belle, but she's good enough at her job that she was the first submarine in the Black Sea Fleet to be awarded the honor of a Guards designation and she made it out of the war alive.
  • Russian Humor: Nerpa has a strong sense of humor and tells multiple borderline-seditious jokes about the state of the USSR over the course of her interview.

     S-class

S-3

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/112_big_0.jpeg
Cheerful. Childlike. Avoidant.
"Here, have some candy, Kapitan! I'm S-3, and trust me, I know the best way to celebrate after a battle is with candy."

Belle of the S-class submarine S-3. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Ignored Epiphany: Over the course of the first volume of her story, S-3 suffers multiple times from her terrible habits, including being unable to make the toffee she so desires because the pot she was going to use has rusted through as nobody onboard would actually wash it and being debilitated by a stomachache from binging a huge amount of toffee once she's finally made it. Despite even going so far as to claim to swear off sweets after the stomachache, she immediately disregards any lessons she might actually learn from these experiences as too much work and no fun.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: S-3 has bubblegum pink hair, and certainly is sweet and innocent enough to live up to this trope.
  • Sweet Tooth: Really, really, REALLY likes sweets. To the point where Wichita wonders whether she's on a permanent sugar high during her interview.
  • Trash of the Titans: S-3 refuses to make anyone on her ship do anything they don't wish to out of fear they'll dislike her, and likewise refuses to do anything that she doesn't immediately wish to do. As a consequence of this, objects are strewn all over the ship, at least one pot has sat in the sink unwashed for so long that it has rusted through, and severe health hazards like a dead and decaying rat and a structural crack in the ship are "hidden" with ribbons rather than being cleaned up or repaired. These issues are even more severe than they would be on a normal ship as S-3 is a submarine and thus cannot easily be aired out and has space at a premium.
