The Morgana | Human Characters

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nation_symbol_it.jpeg

Still feeling the scars of the first World War and alarmed by the rise of Soviet Communism in the east, in 1922 King Victor Emmanuele III of Italy turned control of the state over to Benito Mussolini's National Fascist Party - and this sparked decades of political domination at home and conquest abroad, from the Balkans to East Africa. Now allied with Germany and Japan, Fascist Italy dreams of a new age of empires - and woe to whoever objects.

Even if they aren't human.

Italian Belles in General

Destroyers (DD)

     Turbine-class

Espero

Voiced by: Sydney Miles

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/69_big_1.jpeg
Tough. Scrappy.
"You know, you're tougher than you look, Capitano. I can respect that. Call me Espero."

Belle of the destroyer Espero. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for Italian captains.

  • Dressed Like a Dominatrix: Dresses in sexy and revealing clothing and has some dominating characteristics (for example, putting the captain on a metaphorical leash), but the extent of her dominant characteristics is not known enough to tell if she qualifies as an actual Dominatrix.
  • High-Class Gloves: She wears a pair of black Opera Gloves, to complement her sultry impression.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Her heavily curled and swirly hair is representative of the fact she's named after the westerly winds (called espero in Italian) and her class name of Turbine (whirlwind in Italian)
  • The Queenpin: Espero looks very much the part of a Mafia boss and acts like one too, but she's not really in control of a mob gang nor is she as cruel as could be expected of a typical Queenpin.

     Navigatori-class

Antoniotto Usodimare

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/39_big_2.jpeg
Brassy. Acquisitive.
"I'm hardly presentable, Capitano, please don't hold it against me. But I thank you for your assistance. My name is Antoniotto Usodimare."

Belle of the destroyer Antoniotto Usodimare. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Named After Somebody Famous: Named after the explorer Antoniotto Usodimare.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She is very much a material girl and is shown to be naive (holding a romanticized image of pirates when they encounter real cutthroat pirates) and arrogant (being over-obsessed with her role in the Belle's Christmas play of The Nutcracker and believing she'll be the star of the show), but is a generally sweet and lovable girl.

     Folgore-class

Lampo

Voiced by: Brooke Santoro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/74_big_6.jpeg
Futurist. Energetic.
"Watching you battle, Capitano, sparked ideas for no less than six separate pieces of technology. My name is Lampo, and I'll show you what I'm capable of."

Belle of the destroyer Lampo. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for Italian captains.

  • Gadgeteer Genius: As her rescue line indicates, Lampo is obsessed with inventing new gadgets and the like. Usually they blow up in her face or prove too ambitious and unrealistic to actually work.

     Maestrale-class

Maestrale

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/75_big_7.jpeg
Dramatic. Bombastic.
"What flair, what style you put on display, Capitano! I am Maestrale, an aficionado of such things. How I look forward to watching you in the future."

Belle of the destroyer Maestrale. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Dramatic Wind: She seems to have a wind blowing against her at all times in her design. Fitting, considering her namesake.

     Soldati-class

Camicia Nera

Voiced by: Lisa Genovese

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/66_big_8.jpeg
Ruthless. Calculating.
"Damn Morgana made me drop my cigarette. Though, I suppose things could have gone far worse if you hadn't shown up, Capitano. Call me Camicia Nera."

Belle of the destroyer Camicia Nera. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game and a starter Belle option for Italian captains.

  • Black Shirt: Named for the original Italian Blackshirts, and displays most of the traits most would expect from one.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: As might be expected from a Belle named for the Italian Blackshirts, Camicia Nera fully believes in the ideals of Italian fascism. Nonetheless, she is technically on the heroic side in the war with the Morgana.

Carabiniere

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/215_big.jpeg
Idealistic. Implacable. Lawful.
"Capitano! You'll be pleased to find the bandits in custody... the few we didn't sink, that is. Another successful arrest by Carabiniere!"

Belle of the destroyer Carabiniere. Available as a bundle-only Belle in the 1940 February event.

Light Cruisers (CL)

     Condottieri-class

Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'Aosta

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/68_big_1.jpeg
Concerned. Patient. Mountaineering.
"I can't thank you enough for the service you've done both myself and the House of Savoy, Capitano. My name is Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'Aosta."

Belle of the light cruiser Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'Aosta. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

Eugenio di Savoia

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/71_big_7.jpeg
Disciplined. Authoritative.
"What a respectable showing, Capitano! My name is Eugenio di Savoia. Now, why don't I regale you with some of my stories about South America?"

Belle of the light cruiser Eugenio di Savoia. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Named After Somebody Famous: Named after Prince Eugene of Savoy, famed for his service for the Austrian crown. Funnily enough, she shares this namesake with the later Prinz Eugen.
  • Regal Ringlets: She wears her hair in silver ringlets, as a reference to 17th-century aristocratic hairstyles.
  • Pimped-Out Cape: Wears what appears to be an ermine-trimmed capelet, possibly referencing her aristocratic namesake.

Giuseppe Garibaldi

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giuseppe_garibaldi.jpeg
Passionate. Revolutionary.
"What a passionate display of force, Capitano! I'm Giuseppe Garibaldi. You don't mind having a revolutionary amongst your fleet, do you?"

Belle of the light cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

Heavy Cruisers (CA)

     San Giorgio-class

San Giorgio

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/188_big_7.jpeg
Worldly. Dashing. Heroic.
"Well fought, Capitano! I, San Giorgio, swear my undying fealty to your crusade against these beasts!"

Belle of the heavy cruiser San Giorgio. Available for rescue in the second half of the 1939 October event.

  • Mighty Glacier: San Giorigo is not so much a modern heavy cruiser as an older armored cruiser. Accordingly, she has armor that rivals some battleships and very large guns, but she's much slower than modern heavy cruisers and her older guns lack the elevation of newer guns.

     Zara-class

Gorizia

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victory_belles_gorizia.png
Charismatic. Perceptive. Manipulative.
"You saved me and my crew, Capitano. You're entitled to the finest hospitality the Gorizia - that's me - can provide."

Belle of the heavy cruiser Gorizia. Available as a community-created Belle during the 1940 February event.

Pola

Voiced by: Felicia Valenti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pola_2.jpeg
Cute. Mean.
"I didn't need your help! Well, I suppose maybe... no! I definitely did not! The name's Pola, and I look forward to not needing your help in the future."

Belle of the heavy cruiser Pola. Available as a starter Belle to Kickstarter and PayPal backers, but will unlock as a regular drop for all players a year after launch.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Pola's tactic as flagship is extremely straightforward - flank speed until knife-fighting range, at which point anyone with torpedoes fires them off.
  • Berserk Button: Don't call her "small", "short", or "cute". As Mahan found out the hard way, that's an excellent way to get your nose broken.
  • Insistent Terminology: During her interview with Mahan, calls participation in the Spanish Civil War "non-intervention patrols" that just so happened to result in "preventing" supplies from reaching Spain.
  • Location Theme Naming: Named after the city of Pula. It was then called Pola, and in Italian possession.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Pola is easily the best-armored cruiser in the 1939 start, and sacrifices neither armor nor firepower to achieve this. Instead, she surpasses all other heavy cruisers by simply disregarding the naval treaties that limited them and forced them to compromise armor to maintain the greatest firepower permitted under international law and the speed to operate with modern battlefleets.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Pola stands all of 4'10" and is one of the most powerful heavy cruisers in the world in 1939.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Expresses repeated admiration for Benito Mussolini during her interview with Mahan, while dubbing Adolf Hitler a "persona affettata."note

     Bolzano-class

Bolzano

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolzano_3.jpeg
Playful. Enthusiastic.
"I thought I was fast enough to outpace the Morganas on my own... clearly, I was wrong. I can't thank you enough for your help, Capitano! My name is Bolzano."

Belle of the heavy cruiser Bolzano. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Fragile Speedster: Bolzano is more like a slightly-updated version of the Trento-class than the Zaras that immediately preceded her, and as such is very fast, but has the poor armor typical of treaty cruisers.
  • Glass Cannon: Bolzano has all the firepower of a Zara-class cruiser like Pola, but none of the armor.
  • Location Theme Naming: Named after the city of Bolzano.

Battleships (BB)

     Andrea Doria-class

Duilio

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/205_big.jpeg
Old-Fashioned. Eager. Independent.
"The Morganas will be back, and with better tactics for sure. Rest well, Capitano. A war is not won by the weary. So says Duilio!"

Belle of the battleship Duilio. Available for rescue in the second half of the 1940 January event.

     Conte di Cavour-class

Conte di Cavour

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/67_big_4.jpeg
Artful. Manipulative.
"Don't mistake me for a distressed damsel, Capitano... but I appreciate the assistance given. I'm Conte di Cavour. Tell me, how politically-minded are you?"

Belle of the battleship Conte di Cavour. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Battle of Wits: She engages the Captain in one of these during her story. This is to teach them what it is to be in command.
  • Guile Hero: Cavour is willing to do anything to achieve her goals and protect the things she cares about. Usually this takes the form of underhanded tactics. Fitting for someone named after a politician.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Named after the statesman Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour.

Giulio Cesare

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/72_big_1.jpeg
Confused. Curious.
"Capitano! God brought you to me - I just know it. My name is Giulio Cesare, and if I can help you in any way, please, just let me know!"

Belle of the battleship Giulio Cesare. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

Submarines (SS)

     Ettore Fieramosca-class

Ettore Fieramosca

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/70_big_8.jpeg
High Maintenance. Petulant.
"You know, you could have come to my aid a little sooner! A little timeliness in the future wouldn't kill you. I'm Ettore Fieramosca, by the way. ... Thanks."

Belle of the submarine Ettore Fieramosca. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

     Adua-class

Axum

Voiced by: Katabelle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/64_big_5.jpeg
Cheerful. Polite.
"What a battle, Capitano! My name is Axum, and I would be happy to brew you some coffee if you need a pick-me-up after that fight."

Belle of the submarine Axum. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

  • Immigrant Patriotism: Axum is quite proud of both the country who built her and of the territory for which she's named and draws much of her cultural inspiration from.
  • Location Theme Naming: Named after the Ethiopian city of Axum, then under Italian possession.

     Brin-class

Archimede

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/41_big_5.jpeg
Intelligent. Inventive.
"What a brilliant use of physics on your part, Capitano! I'm Archimede. You don't mind if I perform an experiment or two on board, do you?"

Belle of the submarine Archimede. Available for rescue at the 1939 start of the game.

Training Ships (TS)

     Cristoforo Colombo-class

Amerigo Vespucci

Voiced by: N/A

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/191_big_4.jpeg
Eager. Adventurous. Competitive.
"Prepare for adventure, Capitano! You stand before the great Amerigo Vespucci! Oh, and the chameleon's name is Soderini. He knows things."

Belle of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci. Available for rescue in the second half of the 1939 October event.
