The Black Hand

A technology corporation in Metru Nui. Founded by three Toa of Earth and saw its glory and downfall in the Toa-Dark Hunter war.
  • Cyborg: The Commando Vahki have organic parts like eyelids and nervous system.
  • Robo Family: Most of the Black Hand characters are mechanical Vahki, but Xen nonetheless recognizes Killjoy and Niz as her father and mother.

Niz

A science officer in the ranks of the Black Hand, Niz is a Toa of water. She has created the Vahki with "souls".

Xen

Xen is one of the "more sentient" Vahki. With a restless soul she has waited in the ruins of the Black Hand Command Center since the War.
  • Action Girl: An ion warrior - only Xen's swiftness saved the heroes of Bio-Clan from Saraji.
  • Ascended Fangirl: A huge Toa Mangai fangirl gains their second-in-command, Naho to be as her colleague.
  • Blade Spam: With her speed and ion blades her battle style is pretty much this.
  • I Am Not My Father: She reminds herself often that she shouldn't follow in the footsteps of Killjoy.

Commander Cody

An excellent soldier, good man and all-around badass, Commander Cody is a sentient Vahki who served in the great war between Metru Nui and the Dark Hunters. He is a bit rough around the edges, but even without the speed of ion warriors or the overwhelming firepower of General Killjoy, he gets things done - Cody's strength lies in shooting first.

Saraji

A sentient Vahki who served in Special Force Fist in the great war between Metru Nui and the Dark Hunters. Even though he was silent and aloof, he was trusted by Killjoy and Bio-Clan. Well, apparently the guy had been all the time in cahoots with Purifier, and all sympathy for Saraji was gone after he escaped from Bio-Clan fortress with Metorakk and then killed The Messenger with his oversized ion blade.
  • Super-Speed: He has the speed of Kanohi Kakama in his veins.

Bianca

A half-clock, half-woman being, that is seemingly in control of all Black Hand computer systems. She's been imprisoned at Purifier's sky fortress, but seems to be able to reach her all-seeing gaze technically everywhere.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Was introduced as a mere virtual intelligence inside Killjoy's suits, but was later revealed to be an actual being who has the power to control Black Hand devices.
  • Sickly Green Glow: The character is associated with the colour green. Her speech is always rendered with green text, and she seems to be oozing the colour every time someone meets her. Mainly, inside the odd white space that is said to exist everywhere.

ZMA

Zorak von Maxitrillian Arstein VIII

A elegant genius of a Skakdi, who plays his very own game amidst the Bio-Clan/Alliance war. His motives are very much a mystery, but he is behind some of the most devastating attacks against the Bio-Clan fortress and is the father of the feared Avhrak Feterras. Zorak is much calmer and smoother than most of his kind, and prefers manipulation over straight violence.

Toa Sheelika

The Avhrak Feterra

A group of mechanical, flying and somewhat insect-like floating super soldiers designed by Zorak and an unknown group of Vortixx, whom he later disposed of.
  • Knight of Cerebus: When they are involved, expect things to go super serious.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Not a lot seems to bite into the Feterra's thick skin, which is an alloy made of the protosteel in Makuta armour and some other, unknown materials. The first one of them to be destroyed at all took the combined efforts of some of the Clan's best fighters and the self-destruction of Killjoy's armour.
  • Verbal Tic: —>REQUEST: More information required.
    • —> ORDER: Die.
    • —> PROBLEM: Impaired line of sight. SOLUTION: All of the plasma guns.

The Avhrak Va

A smaller robotic being designed by ZMA, working as scouts for the Feterra. Also used as reconnaissance cameras by Arstein himself. Very lightly armed and armoured.

The Brotherhood of Ämkoo

Leiter

The silent and secretive leader of the Brotherhood of Ämkoo, Leiter is a Le-Matoran who will follow his leader Ämkoo to the grave if needed. Leiter's loyalties lie only with Ämkoo - he didn't let the Brotherhood intervene in the Clan-Alliance conflict before Ämkoo directly told him to.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is German for "leader".
  • Put on a Bus: During the Vietnam-esque occupation of the Brotherhood's jungle island, Leiter disappeared mysteriously and hasn't been seen since.

Enki

Leiter's second in command and one of Ämkoo's oldest friends. Enki is a stealthy poison expert and bird rider of the Brotherhood, and in Leiter's absence works as the leader.

Tedni

Pretty much the only Le-Matoran in the Brotherhood who can't really fight at all, Tedni is the Brotherhood's messenger. He is also a ladies' man who has trouble with personal space. Among other things.

Turaga Bakmei

An ancient Turaga residing in the Brotherhood of Ämkoo's island. He is not officially part of the Brotherhood, but he has an intertwined history with the shadowy ninja cult. He is Ämkoo's former teacher in martial arts.

Ath

The Church of Ath is built around the worship of Ath, a god connected to the mind and free thought. Athists are mostly Matorans who have lost their belief in Mata Nui, and most of them choose the ascetic life of a monk. The fragments of Nimda are holy to the members of the church.

Holy Mother, The Master

The Master is a blind Ce-Matoran seer and the spiritual leader of the Church of Ath.
  • Telepathy: She is one of the most powerful telepaths in the known universe.

Bartax

Formerly one of the holy fathers of the church, Bartax has now apparently turned to the dark side, although his intentions are unknown.

Gunei

Ariez

Zeeron

  • Medium Awareness: Zeeron has the ability to hear the narrator. And he doesn't like the way the narrator speaks of him.

Sadje

A Ta-Matoran and an athist monk.

Oracle

An enigmatic monk, Oracle is an old and respected member of the Church of Ath, who does not let his old age and small size slow him down, as he is also a skilled warrior. He is one of the few Av-Matorans who knows himself to be one.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Matoro and Bartax. Also to Paradox.
  • Telepathy: Even though he is a Matoran of Light, he has gained control over psychic powers.

Paradox

A member of Takadox's species, the Krikcit, who was a petty thief before being taught the way of Ath by Oracle. He works for him now, as a spy and messenger.
  • Deadpan Snarker: One of the snarkiest characters in the story, contrasting with his master's unfaltering stoicity.
  • Lovable Rogue: No longer a thief, though.

Dark Hunters

The Shadowed One

  • Ghostapo: Not only is TSO the leader of the largest criminal organization in the Matoran Universe, he is also an obsessed occultist and apparently after the Nimda, only to attach it into his collection..
  • The Don: He was more or less a mafia boss in the official canon already, but he's straight out called "the godfather" a couple of times here.

Purifier/'The Watchmaker'

A mutant Dark Hunter who will not stay dead. While he seems to obsess over both Nimda and the Black Hand heart orbs, he poses an unpredictable threat and has ominous connections to both Alliance and Black Hand members. He is also know as Toa Ficus.
  • Arch-Enemy: The definitive one to Killjoy, for murdering the love of his life in cold blood and relentlessly pursuing him throughout the ages.
  • Back from the Dead: Twice in the run of the story, at least eight times in total. Death seems to be just a minor tick in his radar.
  • Big Bad: For the Black Hand plotline.
  • Canon Character All Along: Not a specific character, but it is later revealed that his toothiness and deep connection with the Arch Krana essentially make him in a way a Bahrag.

Other characters

Superintendent Harkel

A policeman in Nui-Koro.

General Warrek

An alcoholic general from the losing side of the Zakazian Civil War. He used to be Guardian's commanding officer.
  • The Alcoholic: It's portrayed both comically and seriously depending on the situation.
  • Amazon Chaser: Towards Zaiggera.
  • Bar Brawl: He's a surprisingly good fighter while totally smashed.
  • Deadpan Snarker: A lot more earnest than Guardian, but has the same problem that he can't shut up when he really should.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Hides it through drink most of the time.

Lieutenant Zaiggera

A former lieutenant from the southern party of the Skakdi Civil War, Zaigerra is probably the most skilled marksman (or woman) on the continent.

Tahae

The evil former mayor of Nui-Koro.

DOKTOR VIKTOR VON NEBULA

An Aristocrat of Stelt (Sidorak's and Brutaka's species) who runs the multi-national weapon conglomerate and private dentist firm called Victory Corporation, DOKTOR VIKTOR VON NEBULA is an old business partner of Purifier and responsible for building and designing the Baterra station. Like Purifier, his business partner and old patient, he is no longer a mere mortal and has somehow embedded his soul in, of all things, a Krana. He is a social mastermind who knows every character in the story.
  • Canon Immigrant: He is a version of Hero Factory villain Von Nebula brought in with the thought that Von Nebula sounds like a name for an evil space baron.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He absolutely, positively believes that he was the first in the Matoran Universe to come up with the revolutionary idea of a robotic police force - dubbed 'the Vikhi' - and wonders why nobody has come up with such a brilliant idea before him.
  • Large Ham: If a character pronounces his name out loud, the theme of Von Nebula from the Hero Factory TV series plays out.
  • Mad Scientist: He makes Makuta Nui look grounded in realism.
  • Obliviously Evil: He has a habit of accidentally releasing meat-eating nanobots on the unsuspecting world.
