Main Family

     Willow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oih9sxcl.bmp

An optimistic, light-hearted, carefree fairy who serves as the matriarch of the family. She also has a mischievous side as seen in Meet The Parent and Frames!. She believes that good will always conquer evil. She can be strict when she has to and she can be overprotective shown in the Wishing Powder. Willow is also a strong woman, always honest with her heritage and who she is. While she tried to integrate into the real world, she refused to forget who and what she was. She also stood up by herself, not letting anyone take her for granted and not letting the world disappoint her. Underneath his cheerful, positive and carefree personality, Willow is a very smart woman. However, she is very dashing and innocent.

  • A Wizard Did It: Several situations are solved by Willow using her wand to magically turn everything back to normal. Granted, she's sometimes the cause of the problems she has to fix.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Her constant use of magic and doting on her children makes her an embarrassment to them both, especially Tom.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: It's rare to see her get angry, but if anyone dares to push that particular button of hers, she will retaliate.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's a little lost in her own world in a city of civilians.
  • Fairy Sexy: She is the source of fanservice thanks to her Hartman Hips. She especially looks even more beautiful when she was younger with her long hair.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: Willow is a perky mother who delights in using magic. Cindy is a rebellious teenager who dresses more frumpy, and wants no part of any magical nonsense.
  • Good Parents: Despite her embarrassing moments to her children, Willow means well to both of them and is always there to cheer them up whenever they're feeling discouraged.
  • Happily Married: With Gregore.
  • Hartman Hips: Willow might have the biggest butt and widest hips of any female character in animation.
  • Inept Mage: Played with. Willow's magic wand seems to fluctuate into being rather beneficial in some circumstance to having an adversary side-effect that would take some time to find a solution to.
  • Interspecies Romance: She's a fairy who's married to Gregore, an ogre.
  • Magic Skirt: Her dress is always held into place no matter what her movements are.
  • Magical Girl: Woman, in Willow's case. She possesses a magic wand.
  • Male Gaze: So many scenes emphasize her big butt.
  • Mama Wolf: Very protective of her children, and anyone who messes with them in her eyes will have to deal with her.
  • Minnesota Nice: Willow has a noticeable accent that makes her sound like she's from Minnesota, and she's one of the nicest characters of the show.
  • Nice Girl: She's a kind-hearted, loving fairy who is very caring for her children and believes good will always conquers evil.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: She's a humanoid fairy.
  • The Pollyanna: No matter how many times she and her family gets put through the wringer, Willow is almost always optimistic.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She and Ferocia are very different from each other despite being sisters.
  • Unexplained Accent: It's unknown how Willow got a Minnesota accent despite being a fairy from a fantasy world.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: She is the Cloudcuckoolander to Only Sane Man Tom and normal teen Cindy.

     Gregore

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/udqc6x1f.bmp

A kind and gentle ogre who serves as the patriarch of the family. In addition, he is always a little clumsy, kind, cheerful, but cowardly and afraid of anything (except dentists). Towards a difficult personality when he doesn't like Candy's antics and mischief along with FerociƩ's laughing, name callings and insulting towards him except anything that's happening to him, he used to be angry, aggressive, short (but hot) tempered, grumpy, serious, and always mean.

  • Absurd Phobia: Despite his size, he's afraid of almost anything (except dentists).
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Along with Willow, Gregore has the tendency to cause more than enough issues with his children whenvener he ties to get involved with their lives.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may be rather bumbling and embarrassing, but he's still an ogre who is more than capable to let loose any physical action when sunk to his limit.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He may be big and strong, but he gentle and loving when it comes to his children.
  • Bumbling Dad: Something that his children resent since it only embarrasses them.
  • Fish out of Water: Like his wife, Gregore has difficulties adjusting to the earthly living.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite being an ogre, he is a sweet, benevolent, and gentle father.
  • Good Parents: He may be rather bumbling to say the least, but Gregore still treats his children well and is always there to help them out when in need.
  • Happily Married: To Willow.
  • Interspecies Romance: He's an ogre who's married to Willow, a fairy.
  • Nice Guy: Despite his size, he's an all-around loving parent to his children.
  • Papa Wolf: If you know what's good for you, you would refrain from harming either one of his children while he's around.
  • Super-Strength: His main power to make up for his lack of magic is his physical strength.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: To an extraordinary extent. He's 9 feet tall and large, but even his legs are smaller than his arms.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Along with Willow, he's the wacky one compared to Tom and Cindy.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Everything, except dentists.

     Tom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wiqmiydo.bmp

Willow and Gregore's 10-year-old son. Clever, spontaneous and mischievous, Tom has the presence of mind of a boy who has had to take care of himself from very young. Thanks to his limitless imagination and instinctive quick reflexes, he is able to convince anyone of anything. This skill is very useful to his absent-minded family members who are always forgetting they no longer live in a world of magical creatures.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: To an extent. He still has plenty of childlike interests while also being the most level-headed one of the family.
  • The Cutie: He's the probably the nicest guy you would ever hope to meet and will always do damage control for his family.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Tom just simply wants to embrace the human world without having to deal with the absurdness of his quirky family.
  • Nice Guy: He's easily one of the kinder characters in the show.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: He is half-fairy, half-ogre, but looks like a normal human kid.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to his family, he's the only one who is morally grounded and collected.
  • Pint-Sized Kid: For a ten-year-old, he's quite small compared to the adult characters.
  • Precocious Crush: On his teacher, Ms. Tinker. He later has this on Cindy's friend Sophia in the second season.
  • Punny Name: His name is a pun of Tom Thumb
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Downplayed on Tom's part. There isn't anything manly about him, but compared to his friend Jojo, who gets scared easily most of the time, Tom is more brave, confident, and athletic in comparison.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: It's clear that most of the episodes revolve around him trying to live a normal life as a regular kid, and thus he's the protagonist of the show.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: He's obviously the latter part of the trope to his parents' former part.

     Cindy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/qm1674po.bmp

Willow and Gregore's 14-year-old daughter. Stubborn, rebellious, and very romantic, Cindy knows that a better future awaits her. In Fairyland, she was responsible for cleaning the sewers of the kingdom, but in the Real World, she dreams of grand projects and a more agreeable life. Like all teenagers (adolescents), she worries about being accepted by the other children at school. In general she opposes the use of magic because she considers it distasteful, but she makes use of it when it helps her accomplish what she wants.

  • Big Sister Bully: She can sometimes delve into this when she occasionally picks on Tom, especially in "Only Child," where she would bully him unprovoked.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: A stubborn and rebellious teenager who is also quite materialistic.
  • Disappointing Older Sibling: To put it bluntly, Tom really doesn't think so highly of Cindy.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: Compared to her mother, who is perky and has an affinity for magic, Cindy is more rebellious and dresses like the part, not to mention wanting no part in anything that involves magic.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: Like Tom, Cindy is half-fairy, half-ogre. And like him, you wouldn't be able to tell based on her appearance as she looks like a normal human teenager.
  • Punny Name: To Cinderella, which was originally planned to be her namesake.
  • Vocal Evolution: Her voice goes from shrill and whiny to sounding a bit more mature in the second season.

     Ferocia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f0ggktog.bmp

Tom and Cindy's aunt and Willow's sister. Many words describe Ferocia that her personality has: Neutral, horrible, terrible, nasty, mean (sometimes), cruel, wicked and a pain in the rear, but also neutral. She delights in causing mayhem, even for her own family. She laughed when her brother planned to rob her sister and brother-in-law of all their savings and she enjoyed frightening Tom with the idea of being forgotten if his parents had more children. She adores tormenting Gregore and will take every opportunity to torment him. She also likes to taunt His Highness about his ugliness. Ferocia has a macabre sense of humor and sees horror films as comedies. When she had her powers she was a villain to be feared.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Ferocia adores dastardly pirates and nasty gnomes, Justified in that she's a bad witch
  • Anti-Hero: Her only sign of "good" is her relationship with the family since she has shown to commit a number of infractions out on Earth and has very little morals.
  • Berserk Button: She REALLY despises being compared to her sister Willow to highlight how much nicer and prettier the latter is compared to the former.
  • For the Evulz: She really doesn't have a reason for doing many of the bad deeds she does other than the fact that it amuses her.
  • The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: A one-sided example. Ferocia is extremely envious of how much kinder and prettier Willow is compared to her.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: She is hardly kind to her own relatives and even occasionally becomes a bad influence to each of the children.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Compared to the rest of the family, Ferocia is the only one who does a lot of bad deeds.

     His Highness

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f6d2yewe.bmp

Tom's snobbish pet toad.

Secondary Characters

     Jojo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/09yez4h4.bmp

Tom's best friend. A 10-year-old boy with an equally large imagination and what he lacks in book smarts he makes up for with his creativity and big heart

  • Adorably Precocious Child: A friendly, cute little kid who is a total Nice Guy
  • Ambiguously Bi: Downplayed. Jojo has a crush on Leah but is very attached to Tom to the point of obsession (season 2 downplays this, however)
  • Characterization Marches On: Jojo started out as a one-dimensional best friend who was obsessed with Tom, but he eventually went on to develop a selfless, heroic, and imaginative personality, often acting as the rational-minded foil to Tom when they are together.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: A platonic example, Jojo gets very jealous of "Reggie" in 'Daddy Uncool', however, he doesn't try to attack him in any way.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Season 2 gives Jojo a few of these moments
  • Fiery Redhead: He has red hair and has a bit of a temper.
  • Kiddie Kid: Jojo is a child who enjoys comic books, playing with toy dinosaurs, and doodling. He also cries in almost every episode he's in over trivial things.
  • Prone to Tears: Understandably given his age.
  • Shout-Out: Jojo is a dead ringer for Disney's Peter Pan. Not just his appearance but his ability to mimic voices and sounds and his overactive imagination. the episode "Princess Melba 3" gives him similar abilities to Link but a costume more on par with Pan.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Took SEVERAL levels in badass between seasons 1 and 2. In season 1 he was afraid of practically everything, while season 2 sees him squaring up against a clay monster single-handedly.

     Ms. Tinker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8ij5jowx.bmp

Tom's teacher.

  • Cool Teacher: To an extent. She treats her students with mutual respect and would only punish them if they act out of line.
  • Hartman Hips: Second to Willow, Ms. Tinker has the biggest butt and widest hips in the show by far.
  • Hot Teacher: She's quite attractive, and Tom even imagines himself all grown up dating her.
  • Last-Name Basis: We never know what her first name is.
  • Male Gaze: Whether she's facing sideways, shown from the back, and even at a 3/4 angle from the back, she gets a fair number of shots on her large butt.
  • Out of Focus: Downplayed. She does appear in the second season, but less frequently than the first.
  • Shout-Out: To say she looks like Disney's Tinkerbell is an understatement
  • Stern Teacher: Despite her kindness, she is still strict about schoolwork and behavior.
