Is it me, or is this trope used for any girl that happens to wear glasses with Zero context, basically turning into People Sit In Chairs?

Here are some Zero Context Examples that are currently listed as examples and not hidden on the page:

Related are Examples that don't explain why its an example besides wearing glasses:

Examples that don't seem to fit the quiet personality type:

  • Thessaly the murderous witch has worn glasses ever since her first appearance in The Sandman. Presumably, she wears them to convince others that she's harmless.
  • Fables: Goldilocks. Subverted: she's batshit insane - violent, sexual, and a political extremist.
  • Wonder Woman: Similar to the Batgirl example, she has worn glasses as her secret identity, Diana Prince.

These examples feel more like The Glasses Gotta Go:

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds: Carly Nagisa has this. She also has a dose of Nerd Glasses as well. Of course she is really Beautiful All Along.
  • Love Hina: Naru Narusegawa after the first few episodes when her Nerd Glasses transform into "pretty girl" frames. Thing is, she was doing it for the same reason as Miu Fuurinji above: to avoid attracting the attention of boys.

Anyway I was thinking this trope basically be written as Sexy Spectacles where a character wearing glasses is explicitly considered making the character more attractive In-Universe.

For example, a guy wants his girlfriend to wear glasses instead of contact lenses because they're sexier. Or a boy is considered a catch, with people noting how good he looks with his pair of spectacles that make him look smart, and sophisticated.

Someone that doesn't need to wear glasses, but wears them explicitly for fashion, and not to look inconspicuous like Clark Kent could count as well. In this case, we might do a merge with Purely Aesthetic Glasses.

We're cutting all appearance tropes with over 50% misuse and/or ZC Es. This looks like it might in that category. It seems to be just a list of any girl with glasses.

At the very least, examples should be restricted for characters whose glasses actually reflect their personality while cutting examples of female characters who happen to wear glasses, as well as zero context examples.

Personally, I think we should make it just a fanspeak term since the way it's used in the wild seems to be any girl who looks glasses that someone thinks is kinda cute.

I would be wholeheartedly against cutting this wholesale. It is completely a trope about specific personality elements and other elements including the shape of the eyes, leaning toward the large and Tareme side of the scale, and shape of the glasses featured as opposed to the harsher and sexier personas of Hot Librarian and Nerds Are Sexy and such covered by Sexy Spectacles I think.

I do support cleanup of those who just wear glasses.

EDIT: I would say number 6 in the page image wouldn't be this trope as well.

I'll be down with making it fanspeak, and cleaning up bad examples.

X character wears glasses is not a trope.

Even in the anime fandom, people don't use this term properly even a large chunk of the time. I really think that an exampless fanspeak page would be the best way to have the actual definition of the term on the wiki without it turning into a misuse magnet.

I was more talking about something we could aim everything at, not an actual trope itself or an index but umm an explanation? *shrug* If they wear glasses they should fit somewhere in mostly already existing tropes.

Anyway I really disagree. This is a trope IMO in general and one of the bigger ones in anime, right up there with Tsundere and Zettai Ryouiki. One with very specific stereotypes such as eye shape, shape of the glasses, soft spoken, conservative and such. The complete polar opposite to Sexy Spectacles related tropes.

If anything I could see it be made Japan only or renamed because they really turned this into a defining character trait and a moe element. But its quantified and not opinion based like our Moe trope is, I guess you could call it a Moe Pandering trope. It is pretty much the difference between cute[1] and sexy, from the same series two entirely different effects.

In response to the OP, this trope does not make them more attractive, that is Sexy Spectacles. These tropes are almost completely exclusive, this trope is strictly about cuteness and such, only a few works do both and the ones I know of are already listed on both pages.

EDIT: Guys will get the treatment too, its a standard character element for an Uke in Yaoi.

Making it Fanspeak sounds good.

If we do keep it with examples, there should be a definite personality type associated with it.

It's a Japanese-named trope with a lot of misuse, so make it Fanspeak.

Exampleless fanspeak page or cut it. With this amount of misusage and ZC Es a cleanup effort would be pointless without a name change.

I feel like making it example-ness isn't going to stop people from wicking it. Which is the main problem.

Cute Spectacles sounds like a good rework.

Maybe we can think of a more Alliterative Name though, or a pun?

Spectacled Sweetie is a better name to me. Having "cute" in the title is gonna lead to a lot of shoehorning.

No option for cleanup and/or split?

Really cleanup and emphasis on cute is all that is needed.

This is supposed to be a cute glasses girl. If the page stays then each example should say how she is cute as well as that she has glasses. Sweetie doesn't sounds better than saying cute. I agree making it example-ness isn't going to help the problem.

Attractiveness is rather subjective. If there's a girl out there wearing glasses, someone will think she's cute.

There are specific styles of glasses that are made for 'cute', in anime they are the bigger rounder glasses but not the full on Opaque Nerd Glasses. Almost always with large Tareme Eyes or close to it and glasses to match in addition to other Moe style tropes such as being short, Dojikko. I went into more detail in previous posts.

Sharp angles and small glasses are reserved for sexy and/evil characters and non-Uke guys.

Specifically this vs this and [1]

Hmm. In that case, we could perhaps give the trope a rename, but still have Meganekko as a redirect.

Like said earlier appearance tropes 50% misuse and/or zero context examples are heavily considered for a cut. This trope is way too many misuses and zero context examples for a just a clean up.

sidenote: A while back ago we decided to turn Megane, which is pretty much the male equivalent of this trope, to a fanspeak page so I'm not sure how this trope didn't get the same treatment.
