"I’ll definitely pierce you through…with my Rainbow Bullet!"

The Heroine. Evangeline, better known as “Eve” is a talented amateur golfer from Nafrece who uses her skills to make money to support her adoptive family. In her youth, she was trained by legendary golfer Leo Millafoden.

  • '80s Hair: Eve's usual look is an unkempt-looking, feathered, and volumized "big hair", common in the 1980s.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: When Aoi expresses excitement in the doubles, Eve pats her head reassuringly. This causes a Luminescent Blush from Aoi. The background is filled with Love Bubbles and Sparkles.
  • All There in the Manual: "Rebellion's Cry" mentions that her actual name is Evangeline. Due to severe loss of memory, Eve says that she doesn't know her last name.
  • Amnesiac Hero: She was found by Klein and Lily three years ago with no memories beyond her name. By the end of the Doubles Championship, she recovers from this and realizes who her parents were.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Her "Purple Bullet" is a slice driver shot she learned from Aoi while in VR.
  • Brains and Brawn: Eve is the Brawn to Ichina’s Brains. Ichina, despite her flighty personality is very knowledgeable and well-read on the ins and outs of golf. Eve lacks that knowledge, preferring to use brute force to intimidate and defeat her opponents.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Season 2 reveals that she's half-Japanese by her father Kazuhiko.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Eve shouts out her golf strike as bullets depending on the tool and shots she uses:
    • Direct Strike-Blue Bullet - Her main driver shot, is perfectly straight, and little can stop its momentum. Can go even further depending on her stance.
      • Full-Strength-Blue Bullet
      • Combo Strike-Blue Bullet
      • Screaming-Blue Bullet
    • Heavenly Red Bullet - Her main #7 shot, is notable for its high elevation.
    • Green Bullet - Her main putter shot, notable for straight power hits.
    • Purple (Aoi) Bullet - Her slice driver shot learned from Aoi while in VR.
    • Escaping Yellow Bullet - Her shot for escaping the sand bunkers.
    • Water Dragon's Indigo Bullet - A shot that creates a shortcut through water hazards by hitting the ball so it skips over the water's surface multiple times.
    • Rainbow Shot - Her father Kazuhiko's trademark swing, which spins the ball to allow it to move even further once it touches the ground.
    • Rainbow Bullet Burst - Eve's original shot, born from her evolving Leo and Kazuhiko's golf. It combines the power shots of Leo's Rainbow Bullet with the spin of Kazuhiko's Rainbow Shot to shoot the ball to absurd distances. This shot is a Dangerous Forbidden Technique that if used constantly it can cripple Eve permanently.
    • Over the Rainbow - Eve's second original shot, which is entirely of her own making instead of borrowing from Leo or Kazuhiko.
    • Shining Rainbow Burst - A shot performed with Aoi's 48-inch Shining Wings, combining Kazuhiko's Rainbow Shot, Leo's Bullet Shot, and Amuro's Shining Shot into the ultimate golf.
  • Challenge Seeker: Eve's Character Development pushes her into this role.
  • The Charmer: Eve has repeatedly shown the ability to enthrall others and make them do what she wants but she isn’t that conscious of it.
  • Chick Magnet: Eve’s long blonde hair, toned body and aggressive attitude has drawn the attraction of numerous people including Aoi, Vipēre and Ichina.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Eve does not try to attract others and usually has no idea when she does.
  • Cool Big Sis: Eve values her family and goes out of her way to look after her younger sisters Lily, Emily, Charlotte & Jessica.
  • Custom Uniform: Eve wears her Raiou uniform jacket open with her shirt untucked and the first few buttons open. She also does not wear a tie.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Admittedly, she is running from the mob, she decides to go to Japan just to chase Aoi despite not knowing where Aoi is, not bothering to find anywhere to stay, and not being able to speak Japanese (until she remembers that yes, she actually can).
  • Energetic and Soft-Spoken Duo: Eve becomes the Soft Spoken to Ichina’s chatty and exuberant Energetic.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: When she wonders why everyone's staring at her at Raiou Academy, Ichina says that (among other things) it's because she's a hot, thin blonde. She even directly calls her a lady-killer when she asks two stunned girls if they know what's fun in Japan. And of course, there's her relationship with Aoi...
  • Everyone Has Standards: Eve usually doesn't let her emotions show even at gunpoint, but when Catherine mentions she had Rose killed for failing to beat her, Eve is visibly angry.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Eve has naturally blond hair and seems to be like catnip for other people.
  • Extremely Protective Child: Eve is fiercely defensive of her adoptive older sister Klein, who acts as her surrogate mother. When Klein is being harassed by a Dirty Cop in Episode 1, Eve rushes to her rescue, throwing money at the man and yelling at him to go.
  • Family of Choice: Eve is not related to anyone in her family, but after they took her in, she considers them blood.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: Brash, aggressive, and reckless Eve is the Tomboyish Daughter to the patient, understanding and supporting Klein’s Feminine Mother.
  • Fish out of Water: Eve becomes this in the Raiou Girls Academy arc, never having been to Japan.
  • Forced from Their Home: After embarrassing Catherine, Eve would put her family in danger if she remained in Nafrece so she travels to Japan to reunite with Aoi.
  • Foil: Eve is Aoi’s opposite in many ways.
    • Eve is European while Aoi is Japanese.
    • Eve lives with her adoptive older sister and four adoptive younger siblings while Aoi lives with her biological mother and formerly her biological father.
    • Eve underwent Training from Hell thanks to Leo to become amazing while Aoi was born with The Gift and raised by two incredible golfers.
    • Eve grew up in the slums as opposed to Aoi who grew up in the lap of luxury.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: In a rare example, Eve and Lily take turns passing between Foolish and Responsible but most of the time, Eve is Responsible and Lily is Foolish.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: Eve travels to Japan to see (and play against) Aoi. But when they finally meet, Aoi convinces Eve to enroll in Raiou Girls' Academy.
  • Given Name Reveal: "Rebellion's Cry" mentions that her actual name is Evangeline, but due to severe loss of memory, she doesn't know her last name. Her last name is later revealed to be Burton.
  • Gorgeous Gaijin: A rare example of The Heroine being this trope. In the Raiou Girl’s Academy Arc, Eve’s foreign attractiveness is played up due to her being a Token Minority.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: While Eve is definitely rough around the edges, she is truly a heroic individual who cares for others.
  • Happily Adopted: Eve is never troubled by her familial situation or seems to desire to meet her biological parents.
  • Heroic RRoD: Rainbow Bullet Burst is so powerful that it seriously injures all of her limbs. Even after a year of training to be able to safely use it, she still can't do it multiple times in a row without hurting herself.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Eve isn’t that tall herself, but in Raiou Girl’s Academy Arc she towers of her new classmates.
  • Iconic Outfit: Eve’s haggard and torn clothes are most seen in merchandise and promotional material.
  • Identity Amnesia: It is later revealed Eve has no memories before meeting Lily and Klein, excluding her first name. At the end of the Doubles Championship, Eve finally knows who she is and who her parents were.
  • I Have Many Names: Throughout the course of the first season, Eve goes by Evangeline/ “Eve Aleon”/“Evangeline F. Kimishima”.
  • Intimidation Demonstration: This is the point of Eve’s golf. She shows the overwhelming gao between her and her opponent, causing her opponent to lose confidence and falter or outright surrender. It doesn’t work on golfers on her level or higher.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Her golf technique can be described as, "hit the ball in a straight line to the hole with as much power as possible." When she plays mini-golf, instead of hitting the ball straight to the hole, she instead hits it off the walls multiple times to sink it.
  • It's All My Fault: Eve blames herself for Klein’s bar being in danger due to having unknowingly helped Catherine acquire the land it rests on.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Eve can at times be pushy and rude but never stops being a good person.
  • Lazy Alias: “Eve Aleon” just has her take the surname of Rose.
  • Leg Focus: Eve’s outfits usually show off her long and fit legs.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Eve is the Dark Feminine to Aoi’s Light Feminine. Eve is mature, street-smart, and worldly while Aoi is naive, bubbly, and intuitive.
  • Logical Weakness: The Rainbow Bullet’s Victory Through Intimidation aspect is not effective on skilled golfers, who retain confidence in their skills or are hungry for the challenge.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Subverted She and Aoi are initally thought to be half sisters, although not by blood. They actually have completely different parents.
  • Lovable Rogue: Eve is not above working for the mafia if it means cash, but never succumbs the darkness this entails.
  • Magnetic Hero: Eve has a natural tendency to draw important people into her orbit.
  • Messy Hair: Eve leaves her hair to be loose, but styles it for many occasions.
  • Mysterious Middle Initial: Her false Japanese alias contains the middle initial “F”.
  • Ms. Fanservice: The anime takes several opportunities to put her in cute and/or form-fitting outfits including multiple maid outfits. Later episodes have a Shower Scene and show that she sleeps naked.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: Klein actually looks old enough to be Eve’s mother, but according to her ID, she is 18, only barely on than Eve’s 15.
  • Mundane Utility: She uses her Improbable Aiming Skills to win a new friend a plushie playing a basketball game at an arcade.
  • Mysterious Past: Even Eve has no idea what her past consists of.
  • Nerves of Steel: Eve doesn’t flinch when Anri pulls a pair of scissors on her or aims them at her throat.
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: Gender-Inverted.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Eve chooses to invade Aoi’s personal space while the two are talking and kiss her on the cheek, to Amane’s chagrin.
  • One Head Taller: Eve’s new classmates come up to her shoulders.
  • Only in It for the Money: A heroic example. Eve ends up working for the mob and golfing, in general, to put food on the table for her adoptive family. Once the money issue is solved this part fades and Eve starts to become a Challenge Seeker when she plays in Japan.
  • Only One Name: Eve only goes by just that.
  • Opposites Attract: A adoptive poor and headstrong golfer Only in It for the Money finds her destiny intertwined with a genius, rich gentle golf who plays golf for fun.
  • Parents in Distress: Eve is motivated by Klein’s bar and presumably home being in danger.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: Eve is enraged when Ichina gropes her and compliments her body and ends up putting her club in her caddy’s face.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: She looks at Lily with a confused face when she was able to get a Gunpla set when Eve faced off against a masked Christina in "Rainbow Bullet" and later doesn't get the reference when Ichina compares Aoi's custom club to Char's custom Zaku.
  • Parental Title Characterization: Eve calls Klein “Nee-san”, which is the standard way to address your older sister in Japanese. Klein takes on a motherly role for Eve and for all intents and purposes is her mother, but is only 3 years older than her.
  • The Promise: Eve and Aoi promise to meet. At first, Eve fails to make good on it but eventually does.
  • Rainbow Motif: Both her epithet and her play style are known as the “Rainbow Bullet”, so naturally Eve is associated with rainbows. Eve inherits this from her father, Kazuhiko Hodaka.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Leo informs Rose that Eve is this, his next student who he has higher hopes for.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: A lot of Eve’s tactics boil down to “hit ball as hard as possible” which she is very good at.
  • Smash Sisters: Eve becomes this with Aoi over time. It is official when they become doubles partners.
  • Spirited Competitor: Eve loves a challenge and is also excited to face off against strong golfers.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: By defeating Aisha Khambatta at the Europe Women's Open and taking first place, Eve officially surpasses Leo Millafoden.
  • Technicolor Magic: Eve’s Rainbow Bullet is visible to the audience, and is made of the colors of the rainbow.
  • Token Minority: Eve becomes this in the Raiou arc, as in Japan, more than 90% of the population is ethnically Japanese.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Eve is aggressive, reckless and abrasive making her the Tomboy to Aoi’s Girly Girl.
  • Tomboyish Voice: Akari Kito provides Eve with a rather low tenor.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Eve loves eating burgers and makes a bet pertaining to them.
  • Training from Hell: How she got her golfing skills. Kinue later has her go through a nonstop three-day training session in order to polish her skills even further. By the end, she's flat on the ground.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Normally Eve does not bother making herself look her best yet is very attractive to other characters and the audience.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Downplayed. Her technique consists of hitting the ball as hard as she can with great precision.
  • Victory Through Intimidation: The Rainbow Bullet’s main purpose is to do this.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Eve becomes this with Aoi when she travels to Japan and become closer.
  • Worthy Opponent:
    • Aoi is the first one Eve and the most important one. After their meeting, the two become obsessed with each other and once again facing off.
    • Rose becomes one once Eve is forced to play a game against her.
Eve: I thought that I could only ever play real golf with her [Aoi]…but she’s [Rose] really started a fire in me.
    • Eve, in contrast to her kōhai Kuyō, instantly sees Kaoruko as this and tells her she is the only person beside Aoi to impress her with her shot.
    • Mizuho Himekawa becomes one to Eve after the latter meets her. Eve goes on to openly declare war against her.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: As of the end of "Final Bullet", Eve has fled to Japan to avoid a hit order placed on her for winning against Catherine and her golfer, Rose. As of late, it seems to have worked. This also is the excuse she needs to meet back up with Aoi. Then this became a forceful subversion as Seira Amawashi puts her on a one-way trip back to Nafrece after the award ceremony of the Doubles Championship not long after finding out Eve's indirect connection to the mafia.
  • Younger Than They Look: She looks like a young adult, but her birthday is April 10, 2007, and the anime is set in 2022, making her around 15.

    Aoi Amawashi

"Pakkun, fly for me."

"I won’t bet. Golf is a sacred sport, and that would be an insult to it."

  • The Ace: Aoi is one of the best golfers in the story and The Rival of Eve.
  • Alliterative Name: Aoi Amawashi.
  • Captain Oblivious: It's her superpower. She's called the Innocent Tyrant because, no matter how much pressure others try to put on her, she views golf as genuinely fun and completely ignores any attempt at rattling her, to the point where it scares other people.
  • Crush Blush: Aoi has a tendency to get one around Eve, especially when she sees her naked after a shower. Eve later learns just what to say to get this reaction out of her.
  • Generation Xerox: Aoi took up golfing at a young age thanks to her parents, Kazuhiko Hodaka and Seira Amawashi. She also is easily able to master the golf style of her biological father, Reiya Amuro.
  • Heroic B So D:
    • She breaks down into tears when Eve makes her realize that she is not in fact Kazuhiko's biological daughter.
    • She breaks down again when she learns that she inherited Amuro's tuberculosis and will have to give up golf to survive. Only the prospect of one final game against Eve keeps her going.
  • Heroic RRoD: She inherited Amuro's scoliosis and so pushing herself too hard while golfing causes her to faint and could potentially kill her. By the Distant Finale, a cure has been developed and she's recovered to the point where she can safely golf once more.
  • Hollywood Genetics: Aoi looks completely Japanese, while her parents both look Caucasian. Her mom is a blonde and her dad's a brunette. Based on their names, they're probably both half-Japanese, but neither of them looks remotely like Aoi. She does resemble her actual father, however.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She seems to have trouble grasping the very idea of being pressured or frustrated about fighting a strong opponent, because for her, it only makes golf more fun. Her title of Innocent Tyrant comes from the many opponents that were left crushed after losing to her, because they think Aoi's never fading smile is a sign that she never took them as serious threats, and she still doesn't notice their feelings.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Subverted. She and Eve appear to be half sisters at first, but actually have two completely seperate sets of parents.
  • Privileged Rival: While it is a Friendly Rivalry, Aoi wants nothing save to golf for golf's sake. She trains at a prestigious school, is supported by her mother, who runs a sports empire and is furthermore doted upon by her equally loaded grandfather. Compare this to Eve, who had to golf in high-stakes games with potentially dangerous clients to support her surrogate family.
  • Shipper on Deck: After leaving the school in Episode 21, she tells Jinguji to take care of Coach Amuro and that she will be "rooting for her".
  • Strong and Skilled: In golf. While her strength in this situation is more from her lengthy clubs she can wield versus raw physical force like Eve, she is a master of both skilled golfing techniques and can hit her balls vast distances akin to Eve quite accurately.

"I can tell. I’m her mother."

"Aoi was born with two gifts. One was me. The blood of Amawashi. The other was the blood of my husband, Kazuhiko Hodaka. Those two gifts will take her to the top!"

  • Abusive Parents: She is extremely controlling of Aoi and places her company's profits ahead of her wellbeing. Her father was also abusive, treating her as nothing more than an incubator for the child of the best male golfer and slapped her and tried to force her to get an abortion when she got pregnant with Amuro's child.
    • Seira really does love her daughter but her controlling of Aoi ends up being detrimental when Amuro ends up getting sick and Aoi's doubt about her father ends up creating a Heroic BSoD that nearly destroys her chances at the Japan Women's Open.
  • Doting Parent: Kaede even remarks that Seira is “obsessed” with her daughter.
  • Famed In-Story
  • First-Name Basis: Seira refers to Amuro as Reiya-san.
  • Foil
To Klein
  • Good Parents
  • Glamorous Single Mother
  • Knight Templar Parent: Once she finds out about Eve's origin, she forbids Aoi from seeing, let alone play golf with her, ever again, and pulls the strings to get Eve deported back to Nafrece.
  • Non-Idle Rich
  • Parents Know Their Children: She knew that meeting Eve would excite Aoi.
  • Properly Paranoid: When Seira hears Aoi gush about Eve, she orders a due diligence investigation on Eve.note  Turns out Seira was right since the person in charge of the investigation found out that Catherine was responsible for making some moves to allow Eve to join despite the fact that she did not formally register. This also puts Aoi at risk of being killed or used against Eve by Catherine, something that makes Seira snap and force Aoi to stop seeing Eve, especially if the mafia were to find out about the girls' true relationship.
  • Sports Dad

    Kazuhiko Hodaka

Kazuhiko Hodaka (穂高和彦, Hodaka Kazuhiko)

  • The Ace: One of the best golfers in living memory and the only person to have ever beaten Leo. He also wants his legacy to expand with Leo's help by combining his Rainbow with Leo's Bullets, culminating both legacies into Eve's original golf. It's only until the Europe Women's Open that it is being fulfilled.
  • Mysterious Past: Exactly who he was is one of the central mysteries of Birdie Wing.
  • Posthumous Character: He passed away prior to the start of the anime.
  • Rainbow Motif
  • Red Baron: Was referred to by the media as “The Monster” for his incredible skills.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to bring up his role in the story without mentioning his involvement in Eve and Aoi's births.

"Aoi! This woman is your enemy! Your arch enemy!"

"I told you. She crushes you with her smile. The way she enjoys golf from the bottom of her heart. No antagonism. No pressure can reach her smile. That is the true power of Aoi Amawashi, the bearer of three gifts."

Aoi's caddy.

  • Beleaguered Assistant
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder
  • Custom Uniform: Amane wears a vest as opposed to the school blazer and short sleeves.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: While Aoi isn't particularly wacky, Amane does have to keep her on track with her schedule and tell her she can't just fly back to Nacfrece after they just got back to Japan.
  • Crazy-Prepared: She became a certified weatherwoman just so she could predict how long rain will effect golf games.
  • Improbable Age: Despite being in high school, she's a certified weather woman.
  • Servile Snarker: She enjoys teasing her employer Aoi for all of her eccentricities.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Aoi. While Amane started working for the Amawashi's to provide for her family, she became enamored with Aoi's golf and resolved to do everything possible to see her become a pro, even if it means helping Aoi defeat Amane's beloved aunt Reika.
  • Younger Than They Look: She looks like an adult but is actually in the same class as Aoi.
  • Villain Respect: A peculiar example. Amane and Eve are not enemies, but the latter heavily disapproves of the former and wishes Aoi would stay away from her. However, when asked by Gouzou if anyone on the team is good enough to play alongside Aoi, Amane replies Eve is.
  • Younger Than They Look: She looks like an adult but is actually in the same class as Aoi.

"I’m sorry, but that’s all for today."

A third-year student on the Shizuoka Koran Girls High Golf Club. She is the captain and the top player of the club.

  • Kaoruko’s special golfing ability is her "In the Zone". Kaoruko shuts off all of her senses except her sight and touch, which allows her to concentrate so hard that time stops for everyone else.

  • The Ace: The best golfer at Kaoran and one of the best teen golfers in Japan.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes to Kuyō’s rescue after her kōhai has lost her nerve playing against Eve.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Eve beats her with an Orange Bullet, her own version of In The Zone.
  • The Leader: Kaoruko is the captain of the Golf Club.
  • Spirited Competitor: The plan was just for Kuyō to take on Eve, but Kaoruko tells Amuro that she couldn’t help herself.
  • Time Stands Still: Her special ability, "In the Zone", has Kaoruko shut off all of her senses except her sight and touch, which allows her to concentrate so hard that time stops for everyone else.

"Search!"

"Thank you for the introduction. Am I that famous, though?."

A second-year student on the Shizuoka Koran Girls High Golf Club.

  • Kuyō’s special golfing ability is her Search the Line . Kuyō is able to get her ball into a hole without deviating a single millimeter from the ideal line.

  • Aura Vision: A variation. When Kuyō uses Search the Line , everything but the line is briefly seen as black and white.
  • Butt-Monkey
  • Freak Out: Kuyō loses her nerve after being entranced by Eve’s golf.
  • Girlish Pigtails
  • The Load: While Kaede thinks that Kaoruko is tough, she feels that Kuyō is holding her back.
  • No-Respect Guy
  • Protectorate: Kaoruko sees Kuyō as this. She thinks to herself that she will not let Eve destroy “her precious partner”.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Search the Line is literally just Kuyō accurately putting the ball in the hole. However the accuracy itself is precise as a surgeon’s.

"It’s all because of that woman! She ruined my golf!"

"How can I, Helene Robert, the Junior Champion of Nafrece, end up 7 strokes behind the pack on the start of the last day?"

    Rose Aleon

"She smells like money."

"I’ll burn you to death…with my crimson flames."

  • Alas, Poor Villain
  • An Arm and a Leg: She had her right and cut off by the mafia, and replaced by a prosthetic one. Said prosthetic snaps off due to the strain of her shots during her match with Eve.
  • Calling Your Attacks
  • Chained to a Bed: This is how the mafia remove her arm.
  • Disability Superpower: Rose uses her prosthetic arm to absorb the impact from her power shots, allowing her to hit golf balls repeatedly at full power without overly straining her actual arm.
  • Evil Counterpart: Rose is another student of Leo's and has the same golfing style as Eve, but unlike Eve, Rose has fully embraced the golf mafia.
  • Face Death with Dignity: After meeting with Leo for the last time, she calmly accepts her fate before she is executed by a Mafia hitman.
  • Fallen Hero
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite having to golf one-handed after her prosthetic arm snaps off, she still gives Eve a hard time in their final match.
  • The Heavy
  • One Last Smoke: Rose smokes a cigarette as she waits for Catherine’s hitmen to kill her.
  • Manipulative Bitch: She tricks Eve into helping Catherine win a mob bet for real estate, neglecting to mention that said real estate includes Eve's home. She also gets Eve and Aoi to play VR Golf together to help engineer their rivalry to push Eve further.
  • Noble Demon: Despite being a high-ranking member of the golf mafia, Rose quietly does her part to keep Eve safe from Catherine's attempts to forcibly recruit her into the golf mafia.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: She had been taught golf by Leo, but after she got too involved with the mafia, he decided he wouldn't teach her anymore.
  • Red Baron: Rose was well-known as the “Crimson Woman” in the past.
  • Sacrificial Lion
  • Signature Move:
    Rose: Crimson Rose Bullet!
  • Shirtless Scene: Rose is shirtless after being treated for her arm, but her shirt draped around her shoulders is used for Scenery Censor.
  • Stalker without a Crush:
  • Stealth Mentor: She actually wanted Eve to surpass her
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Rose curls up and cries after she loses her arm to the mafia and her mentor Leo leaves her behind to train another person.
  • Vanity License Plate: A golfer variation. Rose uses golf balls that are emblemed with a rose.
  • White Hair, Black Heart
  • You Have Failed Me: As punishment for her loss against Eve, Catherine sends a Mafia hitman after her.

    Vipère

Vipère (ヴィペール, Vipēru)

Voiced By: Kaori Nazuka

"And…I want to see your golf again."

"You’re my opponent tonight? Fine! I’ll make certain you have a good time! During the game, and after it!"

  • Ambiguously Bi: She'll occasionally flirt with Eve. She also has a male lover.
  • Animal Motifs: The viper, obviously.
  • Annoying Laugh
  • Badass Normal
  • Berserk Button: She hates being called "Snake woman".
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Even though losing to Eve sends a hitman squad after her, she willingly helps her face off against Rose. She even helps her and her adoptive family get new passports without asking for anything in return.
  • Depraved Bisexual: She made it very clear what she intended to do with Eve had she won the match, yet has a male lover.
  • Famed In-Story
  • Insistent Terminology
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Vipère (real name not given); she has artificially enhanced canines that protrude over her bottom lip and a tongue that would make Gene Simmons proud. Her perfume gives off a "poisonous" scent, and overall she affects a very reptilian appearance. Eve calls her "Snake Woman" just to mess with her; it works.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's got quite a curvaceous body.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She intentionally stays close to her opponents, both to make them unconfortable and use her perfume to throw them off.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Invoked as she'll unzip her Spy Catsuit open almost to her navel while playing. Justified as her perfume can throw her opponents off their game.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: And she loves to stick it out and lick her lips, adding to her snake image.
  • Red Baron: Is known in the underworld as “Vipère the Reaper”.
  • The Vamp

    Aisha

Aisha Khambatta

Voiced by: Yu Serizawa

  • Always Someone Better: Aisha can use her own Rainbow Bullet (or more accurately a Rainbow Cannon) to shoot the ball even further than Eve. To defeat her, Eve has to create a new style of golf.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Darker skin tone but no obvious ancestry.
  • Catchphrase: "Aye-aye!"
  • Outside-the-Box Tactic: She tees off by running up to the ball and hitting it mid-stride. Yep, a Happy Gilmore swing in an anime.
  • Morality Pet: To Leo, who helped her escape poverty and doesn't abandon her for failing to beat Eve.
  • Punny Name: to Bandai Namco game series Ace Combat.
  • The Rival: To Eve. Leo's newest student, which means she has all the skills Eve has.

    Juha

Juha Hamilail

Voiced by: Yuu Asakawa

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: She is famed for her ability to perfectly analyze any situation and determine the exact stroke she should make.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Her name first appears on a scoreboard in the opening seconds of the series. 23 episodes later, she shows up as Eve and Aoi's final rival.
  • Didn't See That Coming: She had the perfect strategy for defeating Eve and Aoi, but Aoi becoming Eve's caddie was the one thing she could never have expected.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Juha has a cold demeanor and has a slight ruthless streak to the point of No Sympathy when her opponents' injuries flare up, she's offended when her caddie Karen attempts to throw Eve off her game by leaking her criminal past to the media. Eve winning the tournament only for the victory to awarded to Juha by default because of said leaks makes it even worse for her.
  • Final Boss: The last and toughest rival that Eve and Aoi face.
  • Lonely at the Top: She envies Eve and Aoi for having one another as rivals, because Juha doesn't have anyone who can compete with her.
  • Red Baron: She's called the "Lunar Empress" because like the moon, she is above everyone and is unreachable.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Played for laughs: she's one of the most famous golfers in the world, but only comes up in the final arc because Eve doesn't pay attention to golfers who aren't Aoi.
  • Worthy Opponent: She's very pleased that golfers as talented as Eve and Aoi made it to the British Open so she can finally have a decent challenge. Eve does not return the sentiment, as while she acknowledges Juha's strength, the only opponent she cares about surpassing is Aoi.

"I strike while the iron is hot. And the die is already flying through the air. You won’t be able to take that back."

"Oh, I don’t do anything that doesn’t make me money."

  • Big Bad: Until Eve finally beats her in one final round to clear all her debts, after which Catherine is not a threat, becoming Persona Non Grata to the rest of the plot in the process.
  • Fainting: Catherine collapses after Eve’s Screaming-Blue Bullet makes it to 278 yards during her match with Rose.
  • Leave No Witnesses: Strongly implied to do so unlesss the price is right or the situation poses a hinderince to either her or her empire. Ichina — a civilian forigener — mentions this to Eve, who tries to reassure her caddy to no avail.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: She has a nasty scar on her chest and is the head of a mafia organization.
  • Put on a Bus: After Eve beats her one last time and clears her debts. Catherine disappears completely from the plot, not even appearing when her mafia ties with Eve are revealed to the general public.
  • The Queenpin: Catherine is the boss of her own powerful (and profitable) criminal organization.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She sees no issue in taking meetings with her goons while getting a full-body massage, or while in bed nude with a lover.
  • Sleeping with the Boss: According to herself, she only hires her men because “they satisfy her”.
  • Slimeball
  • Smug Snake
  • Smoking Is Glamorous
  • The Sociopath: She throws fits at a drop of a hat, develops grudges easily, and tries killing anyone show she deems as a threat to her standing in the Mafia underworld.
  • Sore Loser: After losing to Eve, she orders the mafia to take her out along with Rose. Anri tells Eve to leave if she wants to survive this order, giving Eve the excuse she needs to go to Japan to meet up with Aoi again. After her rematch with Eve, while still furious, she agrees to let Eve live and go pro.
  • The Vamp
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Had been using Eve for years before becoming her enemy.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: What becomes of her after her ties with Eve are exposed to the world remains unknown.
  • Younger than She Looks
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Orders her men to kill Rose after she loses to Eve in a moment of pettiness. Her not doing so to Remalda, and smply paying her off after she also loses to Eve is what sets up Eve's downfall in the professional circuit. Along with a possible investigation into her empire, and potentially Nafrece's seedy underbelly as a whole, by the law.

Arios

    Michael

Michael Burton

Voiced by: Takayuki Sakazumi

  • Affably Evil: He's easygoing for a crime lord.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: One of the reasons he agrees to sponsor Eve is because he realizes that she is his granddaughter.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's the elderly head of the most powerful golf company and crime syndicate in Nafrece.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: He's obstensively a mafia don, but is never shown doing anything more criminal than convincing Catherine to let Eve play another underground golf game with Catherine's bounty as the stakes.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He lets Eve have free reign and when she breaks her contractual obligation to only use Arios gear by using Athena's Shining Wings, he's amused by her audacity.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He realizes that Eve is his grandaughter almost immediately, but doesn't let Eve know that because he understands that she wants an Arios sponsorship on her own merits and not through nepotism.

    Allan

Allan Harvey

Voiced by: Shigeru Uchiyama

  • Mr. Exposition: He's the one who tells Eve about Eleanor's past.
  • Old Retainer: He's an elderly man who has served the Burton family for years.
  • Retired Badass: Allan used to be a top-class pro golfer, but no longer plays.

    Eleanor (Major Spoilers)

Eleanor Burton

Voiced by: Yuko Minaguchi

  • Posthumous Character: She died at sea eight years before the show began, but as Eve's mother she is vital to her past.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Kazuhiko, as he was under contract with Arios's rivals Athens and engaged to Seira. They still managed have a daughter and find time to make their relationship work during his European tours.
  • White Sheep: She was completely uninvolved in the Burton family's criminal activities.

"The world of golf…will be drowned in a rain of bullets."

''"Pierce your opponent’s heart clean through with a single shot. Destroy them mentally. Make it so they’ll never want to face you again. Load the bullet. Cock the hammer. Aim. Pull the trigger. And fire it from the barrel!
"''

  • Actor Allusion: Looks almost exactly like Char Aznable in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and is voiced by Char's voice actor.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit
  • Big Good
  • Coat Cape
  • Covered with Scars
  • Disappointed in You: Leo is not at all impressed with Rose after she loses her arm thanks to the mafia.
  • I Warned You: Even though he got her medical attention, this is what Leo tells Rose after the mafia cuts off her arm.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Leo is incredibly rude and has a bad habit of abandoning pupils with little notice, but he's actually very pleasant when not teaching people and cares for Aisha like a daughter.
  • Living Legend: Apparently, Leo was quite a golfer in his day. Even though he's been out of the limelight for years, his golfing talent is remembered and his style is recognized.
  • The Mentor
  • Mentor in Sour Armor: Leo's survived the brutal life of a Mafia member, and with a rather esoteric skill set (golf coach). He's tough, sarcastic and ruthless to his students, but he knows talent when he sees it.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite his tendency to abandon pupils who fail to live up to his expectations, Leo does not abandon Aisha, who considers him a father figure, when she loses to Eve.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Leo gives a scathing one to Rose after she gets involved with the mafia against his wishes.
Leo: I’m not surprised in the slightest. I saw this coming a long time ago. You’re the one who went looking for work in the underworld in search of a quick euro. And you’re the one who paid the price for losing a match. You crushed the talent I spent so much time developing with your own hands. Honestly, I want to take back the time I spent training you.
  • Sexy Mentor
  • Sink or Swim Mentor
  • Sharp-Dressed Man
  • Stern Teacher
  • Training from Hell: The training Leo put Eve through was brutal and often left her exhausted. It also made her one of the best golfers in Nafrece.
