    Blocky
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blocky_teamicon.png
"Hey, guys, for a prank..."
BFDI Rank: 11th, BFB Rank: 9th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI 1-4), Squashy Grapes (BFDI 8-12), A Better Name Than That (BFB 1-16), Have Nots (BFB 17-24)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A red building block. He has a ruthless, aggressive personality and enjoys pulling pranks on the more fragile contestants such as Bubble and Ice Cube, and he even has his own segment called "Blocky's Funny Doings International" in which he utilizes the Recovery Centers to create infinite loops of a character dying over and over again.
  • Affably Evil: Blocky’s pranks are typically lethal and he's killed others on purpose numerous times, but he’s not an entirely bad person outside of that.
  • Ax-Crazy: He has killed the most contestants in the show of all, at 164. In the first episode alone, he debuts trying to kill Bubble, stating he is "just in the mood to hurt someone". He also pulls various cruel pranks on contestants. And then in BFB he breaks Tennis Ball and later Golf Ball both for trying to be in charge. If Ruby is to be believed, he's actually killed Bubble more than 2500 times. For a while after the destruction of the Recovery Centers at the start of BFB, he cooled down since they were his main inspiration for pranks.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Blocky makes fun of the sun, somehow turning it into an ice cube.
Blocky: Hey, Sun! You're... uh... pretty lame.
  • The Bus Came Back: Rejoins the game in episode 9.
  • Character Development: After the split, he gradually becomes more considerate of other’s feelings, particularly Woody, who he used to bully back in BFDI. This comes full circle in BFB 29, where he supports Woody's decision to not do pranks any more.
  • Cool Big Bro: In early BFB 2, he seemed to act as a sort of brotherly figure to Grassy, who could often be seen sitting on his head. Later on in the series, he develops into a mentor for Woody once they make amends.
  • Deadly Prank: Blocky's modus operandi — he loves taking advantage of recovery centers to create creative ways to repeatedly kill his fellow contestants, and it's the main reason why he has the highest kill count amongst the cast. When Black Hole accidentally destroys them in BFB, he lambasts how he hasn't been able to do it as much with Four being the only source of resurrection at the time.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Despite being a Jerk Jock, he calls out Golf Ball for being mean to Grassy, who's more of a Token Mini-Moe compared to the rest.
    • If there aren't any recovery centers around, then he won't kill anyone.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: While Blocky isn't evil by any means, he usually pranks and attacks others for his own amusement.
  • It's All About Me: Claims to be the "star of the show" in episode 17 in order to avoid being eliminated. A flashback shows him being eliminated in episode 4 which shows that this is not the case.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In spite of being an aggressive bully, he calls Golf Ball out for not treating Grassy respectfully and in later episodes, he starts warming up to Woody.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The mean to Pen's nice and Eraser's in-between. Blocky is one of the most violent characters in the series and while his temper isn't anywhere as bad as Snowball's or Flower's, he's much more prone to killing others than either of them.
  • Out of Focus: Has no speaking roles in BFDIA unlike Eraser and Pen.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • He forms a friendship with Grassy in BFB 2. He stands up for him to Golf Ball and Grassy can be seen sitting on his head in some episodes.
    • In later post-split episodes, he even starts becoming more considerate towards Woody, someone who he used to constantly prank and bully in earlier seasons.
  • Power Trio: Part of a jock posse along with Pen and Eraser.
  • The Prankster: Is the prime suspect to spread mischief via pranks throughout the show and has a show dedicated to his pranking shenanigans. Unfortunately for everyone, his usual definition of a prank is a creative way to kill someone.
  • Red Is Violent: He is red and loves killing off contestants.
  • Red Is Heroic: A downplayed example; while he can be protective and caring of others, he is often more selfish and violent than anything.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man:
    • He and Snowball act as the murderous manly men to Eraser and Pen's more cordial sensitive guys.
    • Blocky is also the manly man to Grassy's childlike and Woody's cowardly sensitive guys.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Blocky almost always prioritizes pranking people over his own wellbeing, and has lost his life several because of that. His standout moments include giving another team a cardboard spaceship with the intent of having them burn up as they approach the sun (only for it to happen to his team instead), and telling Four a terrible pun, to which he immediately responded by mutilating and recovering him to teach him a lesson.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Starting from BFB, he's started to act more considerate and less of a bully — though it might be because the lack of recovery centers forced him to hold back on the mass murder, as he admits. Although it was subverted in BFB 17 as he went back to how he acted, it became double subverted as he became nicer over time during the split to the point of respecting Woody.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Bubble and Ice Cube are among his favourite pranking victims because of their fragile natures and personalised recovery centers, he once broke Golf Ball in half out of anger and has coerced Four into repeatedly recovering Ruby into a gem grinder.

    Bubble
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bubble_teamicon.png
"Yoylecake!"
BFDI Rank: 3rd, BFB Rank: 10th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), FreeSmart (BFDIA, unofficial contestant), iance (BFB 1-16), Have Cots (BFB 17-23)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A soap bubble. One of the nicer members of Pencil’s alliance, but she’s something of a sensitive doormat since she has a lot of difficulty standing up for herself. She also gets popped a lot.
  • The Alliance: With Match and Pencil.
  • Back for the Dead: More often than not she'll be revived only to die again shortly after.
  • Beyond the Impossible: This phenomenal event happened in Vote Yoylecake, where she pops Blocky. Blocky even says he can't be popped because he's wood, but she still somehow pops him.
  • Butt-Monkey: The biggest one on the show, see The Chew Toy below.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Yoylecake!"
  • The Chew Toy: Bubble's one of the most fragile characters in the series and frequently gets the misfortune of being prone to getting bullied and frequently popped by others.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: A very lovable character, but her high-pitched voice and unique accent may get to some.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Finally decides to kill Blocky in "Vote Yoylecake" after he attempts to pop her for the umpteenth time, and succeeds in popping him.
  • Elmuh Fudd Syndwome: A lot of her vowels are replaced with "oi's".
  • Extreme Doormat: She cracks easily when pressured by others. When she tries to stop Lightning from zapping Fanny in BFB 1, Pencil proceeds to mock her for going against the alliance’s objectives and reminds her of her new "bember" status, so Bubble gives up and lets him electrocute Fanny.
  • Glass Cannon: Shown to be this in Vote Yoylecake, where she somehow pops Blocky.
  • Killed Off for Real: Flower popped her after destroying all the recovery centers, preventing her from coming back to life.
    • Back from the Dead: She's revived shortly after by Match and Pencil in BFDIA, and while she's killed in one of Bomby's explosions the introduction of the HPRC in the next episode rectifies that. Unfortunately, her death prevents her from competing in the season.
Puffball Speaker Box: You're not an official BFDI contestant!
  • The Last DJ: In BFB 1, she was strongly against Lightning being used by Match and Pencil to zap unwanted contestants. They then see her as a traitor and reprimand her twice. First, by demoting her to "bember", then, by restating her "bemberhood". This makes Pencil the first eliminated contestant in BFB, after she and Match made their team lose because of their despotism.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She believes Match’s elimination in BFB was her fault since she didn’t immediately forgive her for verbally pressuring and demoting her, so she goes around forgiving the other members of iance hoping it won’t happen again.
  • Nice Girl: She's a very caring individual.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Bubble is always Nice, in comparison to Pencil and Match, whose niceness varies depending on the season.
    • In BFDIA, Bubble is the Nice to Match's Alpha Bitch Mean and Pencil's Jerk with a Heart of Gold In-Between.
    • In BFB, Bubble remains the Nice, Pencil becomes the Mean when she orders Lightning to electrocute people she hates and demotes Bubble for trying to stop him, while Match becomes the In-Between, remaining a Jerkass but also trying to atone for her behavior after the events of BFB 8.
    • Of FreeSmart, Bubble and Ruby are the nice to Match and Pencil's mean and Book and Ice Cube's in-between, as both are sweet girls that rarely have any moments of being mean to others.
  • Nightmare Face: Pulls off one per YouTuber suggestion in "Gardening Hero".
  • Seven Deadly Sins: She is sometimes seen gorging herself with food.
  • Team Mom: Of FreeSmart. She's welcoming of Book and Ice Cube, calling them "munchkins" as an affectionate name. Giving that she hates when people harm each other and is very sensitive, she's this trope in general.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Bubble gives a well deserved one to Flower in "Return of the Hang Glider".
Bubble: Flower, I'm tired of this. [...] I mean, I'm tired of your self-centeredness. I'm tired of the way you act around us. You know what that's mean? I'm tired of you! […] Flower, your unpopularity is your own fault. Everyone hates you because we can't stand how you talk only about yourself!
  • They Killed Kenny Again: She is so fragile; she's died at least ninety times, but fortunately there's always a Bubble Recovery Center lying around!
  • Token Good Teammate: Bubble is a hell of a lot kinder than Pencil and Match, preferring not to deliberately hurt others' feelings or manipulate them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She sure loves her Yoylecake.
  • Vocal Evolution: Her voice gets a bit lower by BFDI 3, and finishes deepening by BFDI 6, but gets a lot higher in BFDI 13 to BFDIA 5, only to get lower later in the episode, but in BFB, her voice becomes over exaggeratedly high.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Although she doesn't start out like this, Bubble gradually becomes this trope throughout the series, and makes it through the final challenge in BFDI very quickly, earning her the final immunity ticket.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: 3 episodes after the incident from BFB 8, Bubble finally brings herself to stand up to Match and chews her out for acting like Pencil by verbally pressuring and demoting her when she just wanted someone to support her during Pencil’s absence.

    Coiny
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/coiny_teamicon.png
"There's nothing to be afraid of, Pin. I promise."
BFDI Rank: 16th, BFDIA Rank: ??th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: 30th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), W.O.A.H. Bunch (BFDIA 1-9, BFDIA 11-), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), The Losers! (BFB 1-16), Team8s (TPOT 1-9)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A coin. In BFDI, Coiny had an unfriendly rivalry with Firey for unexplained reasons, and that was pretty much the extent of his personality. In BFDIA, Coiny becomes a more rounded character, assuming a leader role over his team and coercing several contestants into switching to his team, though in spite of this, he's a pretty friendly guy.
  • Arch-Nemesis: Firey, though they eventually stop the feud as the series progresses.
  • Character Development: He was quite immature in BFDI, mostly thanks to his unfriendly rivalry with Firey. When BFDIA rolls around, he chooses to ignore him when he tries to provoke him and is more of a strategist. By BFB, the two of them have stopped their conflict altogether.
  • Disney Death: Submerged in lava in BFB 14, only to discover when he regains consciousness in the next episode that his melting point is too high for it to kill him.
  • Flat Character: Back during BFDI, the main extents of his personality were hating Firey and constantly getting into slap battles with him.
  • Friend to Bugs: In "Lots of Mud", upon opening door number three and finding that it's filled with bugs, Coiny is elated and starts frolicking among them.
  • Glory Days: Implied to feel this way towards BFDIA, most displayed when trying to comfort Pin, who secretly has a more negative view on the season, and during an exchange with Book:
Book (to Ice Cube): Hate to break it to you, but it's not BFDIA anymore.
Coiny: OH MY GOSH I KNOW THAT!
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Although he wasn't trying to, he opened the garbage chute for Naily, Woody, and Cake to go through, falling into the lava and apparently dying.
  • Jerkass to One: He’s generally friendly, but in Season 1 he frequently insulted and belittled Firey. He eventually grows out of it.
  • Kissing In A Tree: He teases Tennis Ball and Golf Ball by reciting "Sitting in a Tree (K-I-S-S-I-N-G)" in the first episode, forming the letters with his arms and legs. Golf Ball disapproves.
  • The Leader: Of W.O.A.H. Bunch along with Pin.
  • Living Currency: Can't be any more explicit from a walking, talking coin.
  • Mad Bomber:
    • In "Zeeky Boogy Doog", he uses Bomby to blow up Team No-Name's Dream Island, as it looked amazing and stunning compared to their poorly done farm island.
    • In "Fishes and Dishes", Pin finds a package addressed to Coiny in Yellow Face's Warehouse containing a world-ending bomb, which Coiny tries to hide and sheepishly laugh off.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Extorts several members of Team No Name into joining W.O.A.H. Bunch.
  • Money for Nothing: Being in proximity to Nickel can spawn thousands of dollars within seconds, but the only real use of money the contestants have during their time in BFDI is to bribe each other.
  • Nice Guy: After growing out of his rivalry with Firey, Coiny ultimately turns out to be very supportive and kind, encouraging Pin whenever she loses confidence and being one of the few characters who genuinely enjoys Leafy’s presence after she bought Dream Island.
  • Palette Swap: Coiny's asset is used and recolored on the numerous tokens used throughout the series, such as the Win Token. Nickel also shared his asset but gray until BFB.
  • Reality Warper: If he gets too close to Nickel, they start warping space and creating countless amounts of money from nothing.
  • Schemer: In addition to his methods of forcing other contestants to join his team, he has come up with several plans that have saved it from elimination.
  • Shipper on Deck: He jokingly ships Tennis Ball and Golf Ball in "Take the Plunge: Part 2", and teases them by reciting "Sitting in a Tree (K-I-S-S-I-N-G)" while forming each of the letters.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: He becomes increasingly peppier as the series goes on, such as when he enthusiastically yells about Growtatoes in IDFB.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Coiny was a bit of a brat early on due to his rivalry with Firey, but in BFDIA, he becomes more of a leader figure and in BFB, he’s more than willing to help his friends when they’re in a funk.
  • Undesirable Prize: He lets out a sigh of disappointment after winning a handful of seeds in BFDIA 2. Averted after they turn out to be Yoyle seeds and the competition of the episode was to make Yoyle-stew.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He frames his rivalry with Firey as this after he wins Dream Island, saying that of everybody he's the closest to him due to their long rivalry. It starts being played a bit straighter later on when the two have put aside this rivalry, being more clearly friends, as they do occasionally treat each other with minor scorn still.
  • Would Rather Suffer: Elects to join the team with only one other member on it rather than the team consisting of every single other contestant after Firey tries to slap him.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Pin worries about the possibility of Loser being eliminated since her team relied on him so much, Coiny reminds her that he’s her right-hand man and she herself has the potential to be a heroic leader. Sadly becomes Harsher in Hindsight since Loser is voted off in the next episode.

    Eraser
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eraser_teamicon.png
"I think pink is quite manly!"
BFDI Rank: 13th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI), Free Food (BFB 1-16), Are You Okay? (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A rubber eraser. Typically grumpy and unamused, but he has a bit of an impatient streak. In TPOT, he is best known for his 1-on-1 rivalry against the late-debuting Teardrop.
  • Absurd Phobia: In BFB 1, he is shown to have a fear of pentagons. He freaks out further when he learns that Foldy and Ruby technically are pentagons, too.
  • An Arm and a Leg: In "Half a Loaf is Better Than None", he gets jealous when the armless contestants get bonus sympathetic points and threatens to cut off his own arms for said advantage. Leafy tells him off.
  • Apathetic Citizens: A guy with a very bored and laid back personality.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Which is...?"
  • Character Development: In BFDI, Eraser was merely a Flat Character who didn't do too much, but starts to get more character development in BFB and TPOT, where he often shows his sides of kindness and sabotaging others.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has a bit of a snarky demeanor.
  • Everyone Has Standards: In the Official Character Guide, Eraser's description states that there is one kind of cake he hates despite enjoying any type of cake, with it not being known what that cake is.
  • Jerk Jock: Together with Blocky as one of the "tougher" characters.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A bit rough around the edges figuratively and literally, but he has no problem with being friendly with others most of the time.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The in-between to Pen's nice and Blocky's mean. He shares the latter's jock-ish attitude, and while he's not as cordial as Pen is he's definitely more good with people and less prone to violence than Blocky.
  • Only One Who Likes Spam: Eraser is the only one who likes key lime pie.
Eraser: What? All cake is good cake!
  • Only Sane Man: At first, given that he was one of the few contestants who doesn’t have any weird quirks, generally being more laidback and deadpan. He eventually loses this as the seasons pass with his weird fear of pentagons, newfound quirks, and acting ruder towards others.
  • Out of Focus: Like many contestants, Eraser did not have much screen time in portions of BFB, and in BFDI, he didn't get much scenes showcasing his characterization. Starting with episode 12 and onwards, his prominence has become more noticeable, especially with his rivalry against Teardrop in TPOT.
  • Power Trio: Part of a trio of jocks along with Blocky and Pen.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He has a tough demeanor and believes that Men Don't Cry since he refuses to participate in a challenge involving crying, but he does like the color pink, especially since he himself is pink.
Snowball: The balloons were pink! Pink is too girly!
Eraser: I would disagree. I think pink is quite manly!
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He's the apathetic manly man to Pen's optimistic sensitive guy, but the calm sensitive guy to Blocky and Snowball's violence prone manly men.
  • Shipper on Deck: He jokingly ships Golf Ball and Tennis Ball together, with him in TPOT 4 laughing over the two Finishing Each Other's Sentences.
  • Sweet Tooth: According to him, all cake is good cake, regardless of what sort of variations exist.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In TPOT, he's more willing to attack and sabotage the contestants for fun and is more of a Jerk Jock rather than being apathetic.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • He has a rivalry with Teardrop in TPOT, but in "Balancing P.A.C.T.", even when he had the full opportunity to push off and eliminate Teardrop from the competition and the whole show, he instead helped her up, only for her to knock him off in return.
    • And when Teardrop sacrificed herself to save the undead in "Outbreak at Stake", resulting in her being eliminated, he instead thanked her for what she did to help everyone, and the two laughed it off as Teardrop faces her elimination.
  • Would Hit a Girl: On top of his love to sabotage Teardrop, he doesn't mind trying to kill her either, as he tried to shoot a laser at her.

    Firey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/firey_teamicon.png
"You are a mean person, and I do not believe you deserve to be on Dream Island."
BFDI Rank: 1st (Winner), BFDIA Rank: 16th, BFB Rank: 8th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI 1-7), Squashy Grapes (BFDI 7-9), Another Name (BFDI 9-12), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-6), FreeSmart (BFDIA 7-8), The Losers! (BFB 1-16), Have Nots (BFB 17-24)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A flame. He is energetic and excitable, but in BFDI he had an unfriendly rivalry with Coiny. Prior to the start of BFDI, he was the title character of many of Michael and Cary's comics featuring the series' characters.
  • Arch-Nemesis: Firey and Coiny loathed each other with a passion until BFB, constantly insulting and slapping one another. Even now, they generally tolerate each other at best as part of The Losers.
  • Big Damn Hero: Saves Leafy from being executed by the other contestants in the BFDI finale by swooping in with a hang-glider and whisking her away.
  • Big, Stupid Doodoo-Head: Firey calls the Have Cots the Have Crybabies on the spot. They take it seriously anyway.
  • The Chew Toy: Like Bubble and Ice Cube, he's easy to kill.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Despite being the titular character of BFDI's predecessor comic series Total Firey Island, he was eliminated halfway through.
  • The Ditz: He can be naive and scatterbrained at times, such as when he fails to realize that Leafy is vulnerable to lava. In the non-canon "PUMPKIN 2.0" video, he thinks a pumpkin-lookalike object is a watermelon.
  • Elimination Houdini: Ended up winning BFDI, and went through the entirety of BFDIA, IDFB, and pre-split BFB without getting the boot once. Averted in BFB 25, where he finally gets eliminated after a grand total of 10 years, and on the same episode number where he won the original BFDI. Later averted once more in BFDIA 8, chronologically his first elimination not too long after winning the original season.
  • Enemy Mine: Despite his hatred for Coiny, he allowed him to come on Dream Island.
  • It's All About Me: He can be a bit self-absorbed at times. An example of this is him avoiding Leafy on purpose in order to save face just because she stole Dream Island from him even though he rejected her from entering the island.
  • Jerkass to One: Firey and Coiny had a mutual hatred of each other during BFDI, but it eventually quieted down by the time BFB rolled around and they joined the same team. On the other hand, from BFDIA onwards he starts deliberately ignoring Leafy or ostracizing her whenever they aren't alone as a result of her betrayal in "Return of the Hang Glider".
  • Kill It with Water: His weakness and why he refuses to take part in the final challenge in "Barriers and Pitfalls" involving scooping up water. Firey will hurt himself if he sweats, will likely die if he can't escape rainfall and being injected with freeze juice is a death sentence as he will be extinguished upon thawing out.
  • Narcissist: Implied; given that both his speaker box and Flower's speaker box were the judges of the beauty contest that Firey and Flower won thanks to their respective speaker boxes and because contestant-created speaker boxes generally have similar personalities to their creators, Firey might have a sliver of narcissism. Another example is in BFDI 12 when he told Coiny after getting slapped by him that if he were him, he would not slap "the most awesome person in the world".
  • Nice Guy: While his rivalry with Coiny and grudge against Leafy can make him somewhat obnoxious, Firey is a good person through and through.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Firey displays one when Clock comes back in BFB 15 because he didn't know that he died.
  • Only Friend: Leafy has alienated practically everyone by the time of BFB to the point that Firey (who is actively ignoring her to avoid scorn from the other contestants) is the closest thing she has to a friend.
  • Playing with Fire: But of course.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Firey builds another ferris wheel during BFB 24 to apologize to Leafy for treating her badly for so long, at the cost of putting himself up for elimination since he didn't make a party for Four and resulting in his very first canon elimination. Woody's prank also ends up with him being dead at the time as well.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: In BFDI 25 he tells Leafy that she's not as nice as she says. Granted, this was because she rejected his ferris wheel ride (which had a lava fall at the end which resulted in Leafy's death), but before then Leafy was really not the best friend to Bubble.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Whenever he dies or shows signs of his fear of heights, he lets out a very high-pitched scream. Just listen to him.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Shares this with Firey Jr., being the Nice Guy sensitive guy to his Bratty Half-Pint manly man.
  • Series Mascot: With the character being ingrained into the series from the beginning, and being relatable to the predominant young boy audience, he takes this role.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Like Bubble and Ice Cube, he's died too many times, but luckily there's always a Firey Recovery Center close by.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He is not kind to Leafy in BFB 15, revealing that he was ignoring her on purpose, outright stating that nobody likes her after what she did in the BFDI finale, and doubting that she has any friends.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Chocolate cake, so much so that he makes one for the cake contest in BFDI 4.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Leafy as of late. They're trying to avoid each other, but circumstances makes this impossible. They make up in BFB 22.
  • Vocal Evolution: His voice was higher and a lot raspier in the earlier episodes.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He suffers from aquaphobia and acrophobia.

    Flower
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flower_teamicon.png
"Out of my way! I need my space!"
BFDI Rank: 4th, BFB Rank: 1st (Winner)
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), iance (BFB 1-16), Have Nots (BFB 17-24), Newbie Alliance (BFB 28)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A charming centaury flower. Despite the name of her species, Flower is far from charming. If she doesn't get what she wants, she'll either threaten harm on you or give you a kick to the face.
  • Berserk Button: If you value your life, do not call her ugly or insult her fashion line. It doesn't matter where you are, she will find you and kick you with horrifying force.
  • Character Development: While still a narcissist, she becomes less aggressive in BFB, more willing to put actual effort in challenges or to help her team and has started to befriend Ruby.
  • Exit, Pursued by a Bear: The ending of "Lots of Mud", which after Flower spends the whole episode as her former Jerkass self (as it takes place before her aftermentioned character development), she ends the episode running away from bugs.
  • The Fashionista: Considers herself one, at least. She's started a clothing line during BFB, but the main reason why anyone tolerates her tacky, glitter-covered sweaters is because they don't want to incur her wrath.
  • Foul Flower: Is a pretty-looking flower with pink petals, but is most certainly not a pleasant person.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Disliked by most of the contestants because of her narcissistic personality and constantly screwing over or trying to kill everyone else. The events of the finale firmly cements her status as that, with even reviving her being considered a very bad act. While she's not as hated in BFB, several contestants still want nothing to do with her.
  • Girly Bruiser: A narcissitic fashionista with a penchant for physical violence if angered.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She's a fashionista who cares a lot about her looks, but she also has one hell of a temper and isn’t unwilling to get physical if provoked.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Clearly goes crazy after being locked in the TLC for months.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It’s very easy to set her off.
  • Hate Sink: Was clearly meant to be despised in Season 1 due to her cruel nature. Yet see Character Development.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: In BFDIA 11, Flower takes over as the host as Puffball Speaker Box was killed by Spongy falling on her, and she rebrands the show as But Flower's Doing It!!.
  • Informed Deformity: Despite her vanity, most of the other contestants consider her to be ugly, with Ruby being the only prominent exception. This ugliness is not visible to the viewer, with Flower having the same face as every other contestant.
  • It's All About Me: Flower is ridiculously self-centered and obsessed with her beauty.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The only way you can even hope to get respect from Flower is if you suck up to her. She's incredibly petty and will not hesitate to attack or inconvenience others. Granted, in BFB she’s still a temperamental Narcissist, but she’s nowhere near as bad as she used to be and ends up forming a few genuine friendships with others. By the end of the season, she's grown enough that she willingly surrenders her prize for winning BFB to Gelatin because she knows that he'll enjoy it a lot more than she would.
  • Kick Chick: Piss off Flower, and she'll thank you by giving you a free trip to the stratosphere with her foot.
  • Large Ham: She certainly gets hammy when it's about her ego.
  • Lean and Mean: In season one, she was incredibly arrogant and this trait also coincided with her skinny shape.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Despite the fact that she's as skinny as David and Dora, she's more than capable of carrying the Master Recovery Center with nothing but her bare hands.
  • Narcissist: Big time. She believes herself to be the most beautiful contestant ever, and will attack anyone who thinks otherwise.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: One of the few non-David contestants to have a stick figure body, alongside Robot Flower and Balloony.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She has pink petals, is very into fashion, and cares a lot about her appearance.
  • Reformed Bully: If winning the show and giving the BFB to Gelatin due to his game strategies doesn't prove anything, she clearly wants to abandon her days of cruelty.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Inverted. In the Season 1 finale, she's easily able to lift the Master Recovery Center, which is made of metal and is the size of a building, and throw it into an incinerator, but in the first episode of BFB, she struggles to open a jar of cyanide. However, she gradually regains her strength as the season progresses — being able to kick people into the air with ease and rushing to a warehouse miles away within minutes to retaliate against someone insulting her fashion designs.
Blocky: Have you always been this pathetic, Flower?
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Mellows out considerably after BFB begins, partially due to Ruby's influence. She even begins willingly trying to help out her teammates in challenges in contrast to how lazy she was in BFDI.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The fashionable girly girl to Leafy’s optimistic tomboy, but the foul tomboy to Ruby's joyful girly girl.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: Called Snowball a wimp because he refused to kill Bubble when she ordered him to do so.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Flower made a few appearances in BFDIA, but after spitting out Evil Leafy in "Get in the Van", she doesn't appear again until BFDIA 11, when she becomes the host. She was additionally cast in IDFB, but she didn't appear in the sole episode.
    • She finally makes a reappearance in "Taste the Sweetness" driving Lewis' truck, meaning she is still alive and well. And then she becomes host in "Lots of Mud."
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She’s entomophobic (afraid of insects).

    Golf Ball
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golfball_teamicon.png
"Now my chances of winning went from [x]% to [y]%!"
BFDI Ranking: 17th, BFDIA Rank: ??th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI 1-9), Another Name (BFDI 9-11), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-9, BFDIA 11-), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), A Better Name Than That (BFB 1-16), Are You Okay? (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A golf ball. Her bossy-bot nature alienates her from a majority of the contestants (except Tennis Ball), but she makes up for it with her intellect.
  • Birds of a Feather: Is often seen together with Tennis Ball. Both are nerdy and both are sports balls.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Is extremely unlucky when it comes to challenges. One time she got zero points in a competition because dirt fell into her cake. Though a lot of this is justified for her bad reputation.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: Almost all of Golf Ball's plans end up involving machinery and inventions that are needlessly excessive and gratuitously showy, but more often than not, they end up helping her team score victory in challenges.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Heavily implied to have one of these. A flashback in IDFB shows a white ball (which is presumably her) hiding behind a vase as a spiked club proceeds to smash them. What happened afterward is currently unknown, but the incident most certainly left her traumatized.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: With the exception of Tennis Ball, many of the contestants are put off by her bossy, abrasive, and overbearing nature. Best exemplified during her elimination in Season 1: when the Squishy Cherries have to choose between eliminating her or Rocky, all of them choose to eliminate her.
  • Giver of Lame Names:
    • Accidentally. In episode 9, when Firey wants the name of the new team to be the Squashy Grapes, Golf Ball tells him that Leafy's team is already the Squashy Grapes, and that their team name has to be another name. Because of this, their team name ends up being "Another Name".
    • Happens again in BFB 1. Observing that one of the teams has already named themselves, she says that her team needs to have a better name than that. TV takes this literally.
    • Almost happens again in TPOT 1. She chastises Pen for wanting to be called “Death P.A.C.T. Again” and says that their team name would have to be something else, but she realizes that she’s about to name the team something lame and freezes up. Unfortunately for her, Tennis Ball ends up inadvertently naming the team “Are You Okay” when he tries to ask what’s wrong.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The tiny girl to Tennis Ball's huge guy.
  • Insufferable Genius: Clearly a smart one but she gets egocentric and tactless with her fellow teammates.
  • It's All About Me: In BFDIA 5a, she claims that if she's eliminated, her team will be plunged into chaos.
Firey: That didn't happen last time.
  • The Leader: The self-proclaimed one of Team No Name. She also tries to be the leader of A Better Name Than That, but 8-Ball ends up taking over instead, much to her chagrin.
  • Older Than They Look: If the BFDI Books of Tips and Tricks is to be believed then she's over a billion years old, but this could likely be overexaggerated.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She's a Control Freak who made her teammates pledge to never leave Team No Name in BFDIA 5. In BFDIA 7, Tennis Ball contemplates temporarily leaving the team to grab a chunk of Yoylite from FreeSmart, but ultimately sends Firey and Gelatin to get it, and once TB states his reasoning to her, she is entirely understanding, since she values the chance to study the ore more than the pledge.
  • Prone to Tears: Played for Laughs. In TPOT 8, when her team lost, she and Puffball cry as they failed to sabotage another team to their advantage. They do it again when they realize they're the bottom two.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Golf Ball is the loud and bossy Red Oni to Tennis Ball's introverted and calm Blue Oni.
  • Reverse Psychology: After her team turned to 8-Ball in BFB, she used this strategy in BFB 3 to manipulate the team into swinging all 50 times.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Snowball. Snowball is the one who rags on her bossy nature the most, maliciously nicknaming her Bozo Brain, and the disdain is mutual, with Golf Ball protesting Coiny's decision in IDFB to free Snowball from the TLC, saying he deserves to be locked in there forever. It's even to the point where, in TPOT, when The Strongest Team on Earth is the only team left with one empty slot available, Golf Ball taunts Basketball, her former teammate, for being stuck with Snowball.
  • The Smart Girl: One of the more intelligent contestants, being obsessed with calculations and knowledge in addition to owning a massive underground laboratory.
  • Smart Jerk and Nice Moron: Golf Ball is the jerky, manipulative, yet strategical and intelligent Smart Jerk alongside Tennis Ball's more positive yet clumsier Nice Moron.
  • Supervillain Lair: Owns a secret underground factory, complete with its own incinerator.
  • That Cloud Looks Like...: In the episode Lofty, She and Tennis Ball were looking at clouds.
Golf Ball: What do you think that cloud looks like?
  • Those Two Girls: In TPOT 7, after her own team told her and Puffball to take a break from the challenge, the two balls found that they're actually a pretty good duo in sabotaging other teams.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: She may be small, but her words are pure, insufferable authority.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Has a gruff and slightly nasal voice. Lampshaded by Pen in episode 11.
Pen: Golf Ball sounds like a boy, even though she's a girl, and that's just wrong!
    • One of Book's pages also mentions this trope applying to Golf Ball.

    Ice Cube
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/icecube_teamicon.png
"I want revenge!"
BFDI Rank: 7th, BFDIA Rank: ??th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-4), FreeSmart (BFDIA 5-9), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), LRLD (BFDIA 11-), Team Bleh (BFB 1-16), The S! (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Cary Huang (BFDI, BFDIA 1-5, IDFB), Kenzie Bryant (BFB 2-BFB 12, TPOT 5-, BFDIA 6-), Satomi Hinatsu (BFB 1, BFB 13-present)
An ice cube. While generally quiet, she's best known for being very easy to kill and becoming very angry whenever something bad happens to her and swears revenge on the offender.
  • An Arm and a Leg: She loses her legs in TPOT 7 after eating a gumball that has the side effect of the person who eats it to lose their legs. Averted in BFDIA episodes, as she still has her legs.
  • Ax-Crazy: Somewhat subdued, but she has let people fall off a cliff and has made thoughts of burning Pencil, Leafy, Match, and Book.
  • Backstabbing the Alpha Bitch: Having enough of Book and her being apathetic towards her teammates, Ice Cube leaves Bleh so she'll be happier.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: On occasion, it's shown she has an Ax-Crazy streak, such as leaving Eraser, Pen, Blocky, Leafy, Bubble, Match, Pencil, and Firey to fall off of a cliff just because as vengeance for being mistreated. She also imagined seeing others burn.
  • Broken Pedestal: By the time TPOT rolls around, Ice Cube's previous desperation for Pencil's approval and friendship has evaporated, and Ice Cube is shown to get angry at the mere mention of the word "pencil".
  • Butt-Monkey: Is frequently mistreated and bullied by others. She also gets shattered or melted very frequently.
  • Character Catchphrase: "(I want) Revenge!"
  • Characterization Marches On: The first episode has her characterized as a Motor Mouth who talks a lot, much to the boredom of Match and Pencil. Afterwards, she now speaks regularly.
  • The Chew Toy: Is right behind Bubble as the most frequently killed off contestant in the series.
  • The Dog Bites Back: She generally won't give up an opportunity to enact vengeance against someone.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She hated Taco like the rest of Bleh, but even she thought that it was becoming unnecessary and scolded Book for making accusations about anyone leaving.
  • The Fake Cutie: Ice Cube seems innocent and cute at first glance. This hides one of the more Ax-Crazy contestants of the show.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Match and Pencil clearly dislike her and constantly treat her like dirt yet she wants nothing more than to be a part of their friend group.
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: Shrunk down in size upon being used by Four to cool down the soup in BFB 13. Subverted by TPOT 2 where she regains her regular size upon dying to Marker.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Ice Cube is vengeful, cruel to the people she hates, and sociopathic, but she's normally civil and kind to her friends. She also doesn't want vengeance on Bubble and Ruby, as they were the only members of iance to not mistreat her. Considering that she's a Butt-Monkey who is constantly killed and taken advantage of, her vengeful nature could be her pulling a justifiably stomping her enemies.
  • Kill It with Fire: Her ultimate weakness, naturally.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Ice Cube is frequently offed by light impacts to her body.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Of FreeSmart, Ice Cube and Book are the in-between to Bubble and Ruby's nice and Match and Pencil's mean, given that they can be nice, but can be hostile and unreasonable with others if pushed.
  • Revenge is Sweet: Ice Cube rarely ever gets the revenge she wants, but when she does, such as removing Pin's face as revenge for her trying to talk Ice Cube out of going to Match's Dance Party, she revels in it.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Decides to switch teams due to Book's tyranny, and eventually ends up joining iance. She is still technically a member of Bleh, however.
  • The Sociopath: Her thoughts are filled with the people she hates dying. She was even happy when Ruby was sobbing over an incident. Downplayed, in that she doesn't act out her thoughts sans the aforementioned cliff situation, and only wants revenge towards people who wrong her, not random people in general.
  • Stealth Pun: Being a vengeful ice cube, she may be a walking pun on the saying "revenge is a dish best served cold".
  • Stock Audio Clip: Past episode 4, almost every single line of dialogue she has is recycled due to being hard and then impossible for Cary to voice, including "I want revenge", "wha?" (and reversed to say "no), "yeah" ("guys" reversed). This is taken to some impressive lengths given that she was in almost every episode of BFDI. This record was broken in BFDIA 5a, and lampshaded in BFB 1. She finally gets new dialogue when other voice actors filled in for her, though her old voice tends to get recycled a lot too.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Vulnerable to melting and shattering, but luckily there's always an Ice Cube Recovery Center lying around!
  • Took a Level in Badass: In BFDIA 6, she figures out how to rewire her Revolutionary Headphones to play other sounds, and uses them to help her team win the challenge.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Ever since Book became more crazy and irrational, Ice Cube chooses to avoid her. Even after Book goes back to her BFDIA self, Ice Cube isn't quick to forgive her in TPOT.

    Leafy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leafy_teamicon.png
"There's a life out there to enjoy, so enjoy it!"
BFDI Rank: 2nd, BFB Rank: 4th
Team: Squashy Grapes (Captain, BFDI), BEEP (BFB 1-3), The Losers! (BFB 11-16), Have Cots (BFB 17-24), Newbie Alliance (BFB 28)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A lemon leaf. Generally extroverted and friendly, but she has a defensive streak that mostly shows up when her kindness is rejected.
  • Berserk Button: Do not reject her kindness.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: In the BFDI finale, she stole Dream Island out of rage of being 2nd place and Firey allowing everyone but her to come into it, causing everyone sans Firey to hate her. After fleeing to Yoyleland, she develops a murderous demeanor, trying to kill Needle, Gelatin, and Puffball after they arrive.
    • She also zaps Lollipop with a laser when she had enough of her attitude in BFB 20.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Evil Leafy in BFDIA and IDFB. After being exiled to Yoyleland, she ends up becoming a recurring aggressor to the contestants competing in BFDIA, throwing knives at them if they cross her path. Although briefly stopping her rampage so she can eat something besides Yoyleberries and say hi to Firey, she's back to her murderous spree by the time of IDFB.
  • Character Development: Minor, but she is somewhat less selfish in BFB 29 and 30, begging Flower not to be selfish in the former, and wanting the BFDI so she could give it to Firey in the later. With the exception of BFB 27, she's back to her season 1 personality throughout the latter half of the fourth season, and is less controlling of her teamates.
  • Control Freak: Becomes this in BFB, obsessively micromanaging her teammates and giving them jobs during challenges.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even though she attempts to kill Coiny and Fries from the shadows in The Stinger of IDFB 1, she’s genuinely horrified when she sees the former drench his face in boiling hot oil for no good reason.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Turns on everyone in the BFDI finale out of selfishness and then becomes a recurring antagonist in BFDIA and IDFB. By the time BFB rolls around, she's (mostly) trying to be cordial again.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The events of BFDI's finale and BFDIA have made Leafy quite unpopular among the other objects — even Firey doesn't like to be seen being friendly to her by anyone else. When she is voted back into BFB in "Get to the Top in 500 Steps", her former team just backs away from her slowly. And in BFB 22, when she leaves the Have Cots to check on the Have Nots, they celebrate.
  • Genki Girl: She can be very energetic and talkative when she’s at her best.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: A nonlethal example. She takes the blame for stealing Donut's second diary, which Firey had stolen. Not only does this revive her friendship with Firey, it gave her a lot of votes in the comments — not only nearly half the total for the episode, but also breaking a new record.
  • Informed Kindness: While she is a nice character, she does have several mean moments. However, her list of niceness states that she's eight levels above "reality-ending nice". All the other contestants, asides from Bubble, are way below the "mean" level, despite many of them being Leafy's friends.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • In spite of her selfish tendencies and somewhat controlling nature, Leafy is unaware of these flaws and believes she’s genuinely trying to do good. She eventually realizes these flaws got her eliminated, so she apologizes to the viewers for her behavior in her rejoining audition. And then she continues to make the same mistakes upon rejoining, having learned nothing from being eliminated.
    • After finding out she rejoined the game, Leafy starts crying Tears of Joy and unintentionally uses Bracelety’s drawing for Ice Cube as a tissue not long after she’s asked to give it to her.
    • At the end of BFB 15, Clock is finally recovered and the other Losers deny forgetting about him. When he demands to know what episode they're in, Leafy excitedly answers.
  • It's All About Me: Leafy, despite her overall friendliness, is actually quite selfish, evident by the way she lashes out at Bubble when she unintentionally rejects her acts of kindness. When disagreed with, she can become defensive and try to prove that her opinion is the superior one. This comes to a head in BFDI's finale when she buys Dream Island from the Announcer when Firey allows everyone but her in it due to her displeasure with his Ferris wheel in the previous episode.
  • Jabba Table Manners: She eats an onion in BFDIA 5a, and her manners are terrible: she chews loudly and with her mouth open, she drools everywhere, and to make matters worse she does it in front of Bubble and Pin.
  • Jerkass Ball: Gets a bit unhinged in BFB 27, especially in her interactions with Gelatin in that episode. She would not let him get immunity (at first), even though Gelatin pointed out that she got mad at Teardrop when she would not let her have immunity last episode.
  • Jerkass to One: After Bubble unintentionally rejects her acts of kindness, Leafy becomes a lot more condescending and mean to her, separating her from her friend Ice Cube and calling her things like "backstabber" and "the meanest person on earth."
  • Karma Houdini: Downplayed. While Leafy does become public enemy #1 after the events of BFDI 25, she recieves no comeuppance for her poor treatment of Bubble in BFDI 18-19 and BFDI 23-24.
  • Kill It with Fire: Gets burned to death at least once. It doesn’t help that, in later episodes, she spends much of her time with Firey.
  • Larynx Dissonance: Due to her deep, boyish voice in later episodes, fans often mistake her for a male.
  • Nice Girl: She was initially very helpful to her fellow contestants (Ice Cube especially) and got along with most of them, which makes her shift in personality jarring from the BFDI finale onwards.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Is actually a football in a leaf costume, as revealed in "Return of the Hang Glider".
  • Never My Fault: When Gelatin calls her out for being Secretly Selfish in BFB 27, Leafy refuses to admit that she is anything but nice.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: When retaliating against her persecutors in BFDIA and going on her Roaring Rampage of Revenge in IDFB, Leafy takes to using knives as her weapon of choice. She goes so far as to hold 30 knives over her head after avoiding Gelatin's acid spitballs.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Firey will not let anyone forget that she stole Dream Island at the end of the first season.
  • Remember the New Guy?: She, Pen, Pin, and Needle are the only four original, non-recommended contestants who weren't in Total Firey Island and made up for BFDI.
  • Slasher Smile: She has one when she zaps Lollipop with a laser in BFB 20.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Her stealing Dream Island at the end of BFDI was in retaliation to Firey's incredibly self-centered picking and choosing following a misunderstanding, but this action makes the other contestants see Leafy as an irredeemable monster, and end up being hellbent on trying to kill her for good following Flower destroying the Recovery Centers. She escapes to Yoyleland to avoid persecution, and in BFDIA, while she tries to keep to herself in exile, she doesn't hesitate to try and kill others who wronged her if they cross her path, as Needle learned the hard way. Following Gelatin killing her off and Firey secretly reviving her, she ups the ante to going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge in IDFB, attempting to secretly kill Coiny and Fries from the shadows. By BFB, however, she's somehow left all of her evil tendencies behind, presumably in hopes of trying to start over.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Flower's girly girl.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Leafy started showing her meaner side when Bubble got rid of the springy shoes she gifted to her.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Firey as of late. They're trying to avoid each other, but circumstances makes this impossible. They make up in BFB 22.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Leafy managed to befriend Eggy during the time she was hated. However, their friendship ended once Firey told Eggy about Leafy stealing Dream Island, and considering Eggy's reaction and both being on different shows, they never reconciled.

    Match
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/match_teamicon.png
"Yeah, I know! She was so surprised!"
BFDI Rank: 14th, BFDIA Rank: 19th, BFB Rank: 58th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-4), FreeSmart (BFDIA 5), iance (BFB 1-12)
Voiced by: Cary Huang
A match. Match behaves like a Valley Girl and often says "like" in her sentences. She is best friends with Pencil.
  • Berserk Button:
    • She doesn't take it well when the Announcer uses the word "apiece".
    • Match won't let anyone else call Pencil "Pence-Pence".
  • Beta Bitch: Second in command in her alliance, and she and Pencil love to boss around their alliance and teammates, especially Bubble. Promoted to Alpha Bitch once Pencil is eliminated in BFB.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Match hates key lime pie and fruitcake.
  • Elimination Houdini: In-Universe; when she was eliminated in BFDIA 5a, Pencil tied some rope to her leg in order to keep her from being flung into the Locker of Losers. She disguises herself as a tree to avoid Firey Speaker Box's suspicion but is found out and removed at the end of the challenge. She's unable to return the favor in BFB due to how fast Four sucks up Pencil.
  • Girl Posse: One of the primary three members of Pencil's alliance, and almost equal in authority.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Pencil.
  • Hypocrite: Fanny accuses her of being this, as she berated Bubble for the entirety of Episode 8’s challenge just because she didn’t know the answers to a majority of the questions, while Match herself was no better.
  • Jerkass: Incredibly judgmental towards people she dislikes — Spongy especially. Even her own friends aren't safe from her torment.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In BFB 8, despite her verbally pressuring Bubble for most of the challenge, she rightfully points out that iance should not be up for elimination due to Stapy's cheating.
  • Like Is, Like, a Comma: Inserts the word "like" in her sentences almost every time she talks. Exaggerated during her elimination in BFDI, which actually provides the page quote.
Match: You've got to win this for, like, like, like, like, the both of us!
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: She is the mean to Bubble's nice and Pencil's in-between in Season 2, but is the in-between to Bubble's nice and Pencil's mean in Season 4.
    • Of FreeSmart, Match and Pencil are the mean to Book and Ice Cube's in-between and Bubble and Ruby's nice. Both Took a Level in Jerkass throughout the seasons and became cruel to others.
  • Pet the Dog: In BFB 5, she plays Spongy-Cake (a game she and Pencil play to insult Spongy) with Spongy himself.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: Match is a selfish Valley Girl and Pencil is an apathetic, but more caring leader.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: BFDIA 8 and IDFB 1 imply that Match serves as a bad influence to Pencil, with Book saying in BFDIA 8 that without Match, Pencil isn't trying to enforce any unjust rules, and Pencil saying in IDFB 1 that Match was too needy (HNNGH!) and that FreeSmart is doing just fine without her.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: After Pencil ends up being the first contestant voted out of BFB, Match assumes leadership of iance and lords over her teammates with an iron fist to make up for Pencil's absence, with Bubble taking most of the abuse. It backfires spectacularly and she winds up being voted out the next time iance is up for elimination.
  • Vocal Evolution: In her earlier appearances, her voice was higher pitched, in BFDIA, it got pitched up even further, and in BFB-present, it is now deeper.

    Needle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/needle_teamicon.png
"Don't call me Needy!"
BFDI Rank: 19th, BFDIA Rank: ??th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-2), W.O.A.H. Bunch (BFDIA 3-9, BFDIA 11-), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), The Losers! (BFB 1-16), Team8s (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Cary Huang (BFDI-BFDIA 4), Unknown (BFDIA 5-IDFB), Justthebomb (BFDI Is Back), Satomi Hinatsu (BFB 1), Kenzie Bryant (BFB 2-present, BFDIA 6-present)
A sewing needle. Needle is normally a kind, quiet contestant, but she becomes quite angry if someone calls her "Needy"note  and promptly slaps the offender. The other contestants love to tease her for this quirk.
  • Abandoned Catchphrase:
    • Hasn't told anybody to not call her "Needy" since BFB. Averted in BFDIA 6, where she slaps Nickel offscreen for calling her that, and it appears to have come back into use. She'll also usually exclaim "but no" when asked a question.
    • She originally had, "Aw, seriously?", which is now associated with David.
  • Action Girl: In BFDIA 6, she engages Pencil in a one-on-one duel to the death, and in TPOT 8, she ends up soloing most of Just Not while clinging to the bottom of a balance beam.
  • Art Shift: Starting with BFB 11, she is now in CG due to a cake Leafy gave her. Although, she goes back to her original 2D design in TPOT 2 because of a different cake falling on top of her.
  • Berserk Button: Don't call her Needy, or she'll slap you.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Slaps Leafy when she was not even talking about her when she said "I'm glad I'm not too needy" to herself.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Everyone used to insist on calling her Needy, and she at one point attempts to explain why she hates the moniker so much before being cut off by her elimination sending her skyward. She has another one, "Cranklord," for how she's a fast cranker, but she doesn't hate it to the point of slapping Nickel or Firey Speaker Box over it.
  • Flanderization: In later episodes of season 1, her personality was consumed by her being nice unless you called her "Needy".
  • Flat Character: There isn’t really much to her outside of her dislike for being called "Needy".
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After she slaps Leafy for calling her "Needy", Leafy slaps her back hard enough to launch her into space, popping the yeast bubble mentioned below.
  • Lethal Chef: Added so much yeast to a cake that it grew into a bubble the size of a star and achieved nuclear fusion several weeks later, plunging Earth into a torrent of solar wind.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Very fast on her feet as shown in BFB 11, and can slap hard enough to launch others into the sky. She's also got the toughness to back it up, as at one point she got knocked into space, popped a star-sized yeast bubble and fell straight back to Earth with not a scratch on her, and is able to swim through lava while lifting Leafy into the air and towing Firey.
  • Nice Girl: She’s very soft-spoken when she isn’t slapping others.
  • Remember the New Guy?: She, Leafy, Pen, and Pin are the only four original, non-recommended contestants who weren't in Total Firey Island and made up for BFDI.
  • Stock Audio Clip: She (along with Rocky and Ice Cube) became impossible for Cary to voice. As such, her dialogue is constantly recycled and spliced together. Examples include "Barriers and Pitballs" where she exclaims "TD, help me get more ahead of Firey!" In "The Glistening", when voting Firey out, she says the same line but edited; "TD, help me get Firey!" When other voice actors stepped in to voice her, this became less frequent.

    Pen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pen_teamicon.png
"I owe you all five hundred million vigintillion dollars!"
BFDI Rank: 12th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI), Death P.A.C.T (BFB 1-16), Are You Okay? (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A ballpoint pen. He is friends with Blocky and Eraser, but unlike them, he's generally nicer and more optimistic.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Addresses and gives thanks to the viewers in the 4th-anniversary video for BFDI.
  • Buffy Speak: Refers to the Announcer occasionally as "Announcer Thing".
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Despite being one of the friendlier characters on the show, he ends up cheating his way through challenges three times in the first season. To elaborate, he and Blocky find the test answers in episode 3, and he buys cake and part of a taco from Leafy in episodes 4 and 15 respectively. The last instance is what led to his elimination.
  • Competition Freak: Out of all the contestants, he seems to be the most focused on winning Dream Island.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's the reason Death P.A.C.T. got 1st place in most of the challenges.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes through a short one in BFB 1 when his friends end up on separate teams from him.
  • Keet: In stark contrast to Eraser, Pen is very cheerful and positive.
  • Lovable Jock: He's one of the macho trio, but generally more pleasant to be around than either Blocky and Eraser.
  • Nice Guy: Much friendlier compared to Eraser, Blocky, and Snowball. He smiles a lot more often, is generally more empathetic, doesn’t kill people on purpose, and shows the most concern out of everyone when Flower destroys all of the recovery centers.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The nice to Blocky's mean and Eraser's in-between. He may be a jock like them, but he's friendlier than both of them combined.
  • Picked Last: He was the last contestant in BFB to join a team. Gelatin's reasoning was because he's "two hundred vigintillion dollars in debt" (referring to his rejoin audition in BFDI involving paying his voters 500 million vigintillion dollars each).
  • Power Trio: Part of a jock trio with Blocky and Eraser. Snowball is something of a Sixth Ranger; while they do consider him a friend, he isn't really shown hanging out with them in BFB.
  • The Problem with Pen Island: If Pen won Dream Island, he would call it Pen Island, with no spaces in all caps.
Pen: When I win, there will be a big sign in front saying "PENISLAND"! No spaces, all caps! So let's do this!
  • Remember the New Guy?: He, Leafy, Pin, and Needle are the only four original, non-recommended contestants who weren't in Total Firey Island and made up for BFDI.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The sensitive guy to Eraser/Blocky/Snowball's manly men. Blocky and Snowball are aggressive and find entertainment in beating people up and Eraser is grumpy and doesn’t show much emotion. Pen, on the other hand, is much sweeter and more emotional, serving as the group’s Morality Pet of sorts and being part of a team with pacifist goals in BFB.
  • Terrible Artist: At least in the eyes of Four, X, and the recommended characters, since his drawing of Four led to his team’s loss in BFB 4.
X: You are a disgrace to the entire art community, and the entire world would rejoice if you never touched a piece of paper again, EVER!
  • Token Good Teammate: Unlike Blocky, Eraser, and Snowball, who are all Jerk Jocks, Pen is a Lovable Jock, and while Blocky and Snowball have violent streaks (though the former has mellowed out over time), Pen doesn’t kill or hurt others on purpose.

    Pencil
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pencil_teamicon.png
"Well, then it's obvious what our team should be. Free... SMART!"
BFDI Rank: 9th, BFDIA Rank: ??th BFB Rank: 65th (Last)
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-4), FreeSmart (BFDIA 5-9), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), LRLD (BFDIA 11-), iance (BFB 1-2)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A No. 2 pencil. Match's best friend, Pencil is rather bossy with her teammates and is very stubborn.
  • The Alliance: With Match and Bubble. Ruby gets added in BFDIA, while Book and Ice Cube are "alternates". Book and Ice Cube would eventually leave in BFB 1 due to their negative experiences with the team, and when Pencil proposes "the alliance" as her team name, Snowball points out that "they're not all the alliance," so Fanny reduces the name to "iance" by taking the "all" out of "alliance."
  • Alpha Bitch: Has shades of this, being the leader of a mostly faithful Girl Posse, very selfish, and generally rude towards others, even her alliance members.
  • Art Attacker: In BFDIA 8, she injects a laser shooter with a syringe of pink paint to turn it into a paint shooter, and fires indiscriminately at Team No Name and the Eiffel Tower.
  • Characterization Marches On: In BFDI, she didn't really have much to her character outside of her alliance and slight Valley Girl tendencies, but she was pretty cheerful and friendly. From BFDIA onward, she gradually becomes a selfish, uncaring, and somewhat apathetic Jerkass.
  • Cool People Rebel Against Authority: When Golf Ball makes Team No Name promise to never switch to W.O.A.H. Bunch, Pencil refuses and instead decides to start her own team with her alliance as team members.
  • Does Not Like Men: She reacts with disgust when a group of males enter Eternal Algebra Class, which initially consisted of only girls and complains about it to Four shortly after.
"EWWWW, IT's A BUNCH OF BOYS!"
  • Everyone Has Standards: Was surprised to see Yellow Face racially push Bomby off the Eiffel Tower just because Bomby was colored purple.
  • Girl Posse: Pencil's alliance consists entirely of girls, and she and Match generally subject the other four members to their whims with little care. In BFDIA, they form their own team in the fifth episode, but even then she still doesn't treat Book and Ice Cube with any respect whatsoever.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Pencil's bad influence leads to both Match's abuse of Bubble in an attempt to become a replacement for her as well as triggering Book's abandonment issues that led to her antagonism towards Taco.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Gets the rest of her team to kill her by sawing her in half when a sea monster traps her in its tongue in BFDIA 5e.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Match.
  • Hypocrite: Dislikes Golf Ball for being a bossy Control Freak. Pencil herself isn’t any better.
  • Jerkass: She's very bossy and quite egotistical. By the time BFB airs, she's even worse than before, ordering Lightning to electrocute anyone she dislikes and demoting Bubble to a "bember" when she tries to prevent him from zapping Fanny. This led to her elimination in the following episode.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Pencil rightfully called out Golf Ball's manipulative nature during her stay on Team No-Name. In "Zeeky Boogy Doog", she rightfully calls her out for the challenge being "her" plan instead of the team's as Golf Ball worked on the dream sauce by herself. Also, in "Get in the Van", she does not promise she will stay on Team No-Name for the freedom to switch if she felt like it, which she did moments later.
    • When Roboty is captured by Four during the escape from the E.X.I.T., she orders everyone else to ditch him, calling him dead weight. While she could have phrased it better, she has a point given that as far as she knows, Four is a psychotic Eldritch Abomination who could easily incapacitate everyone else and render their escape attempt for naught. In TPOT 9, when David expresses disappointment that they couldn't save Roboty, she agrees to return to the E.X.I.T. to check if he's is still there, since they were heading in that direction anyways.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: She bossed around her team in BFB 1, ordering Lightning to electrocute anyone she dislikes or protests against her decisions, demoted Bubble to a "bember" and gave her team false information that resulted in their loss. Unsurprisingly, fans did not take kindly to this, and she was eliminated the very next episode.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: She's the leader of her girl-only alliance and acts like a stereotypical Valley Girl, but beneath her mildly bossy attitude and seeming ineptitude at running her alliance, Pencil is a kind and caring person deep down who always wants what's best for her friends. ...At least, for the first three seasons. Come Season 4, and she's flanderized into being a stock Alpha Bitch with almost no redeeming qualities.
  • Mad Libs Dialogue: Usually in her rejoining auditions:
    (X) yeah yeah yeah, (Y) yeah yeah yeah, so I can win the contest, so I can win the contest!
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: She is the in-between to Bubble's nice and Match's mean in Season 2, but is the mean to Bubble's nice and Match's in-between in Season 4.
    • Of FreeSmart, Pencil and Match are the mean to Book and Ice Cube's in-between and Bubble and Ruby's nice. Both Took a Level in Jerkass throughout the seasons and became cruel to others.
  • No-Sell: She isn't affected by David's screech and even laughs at him for trying it, even though it forced Bubble and Firey to blink.
  • Pet the Dog: After previously ordering Book and Ice Cube to be kicked out of the Clubhouse of Awesomeness in BFDIA 5a, she allows the two to stay in it in BFDIA 8, with Book noting that Match isn't there to be an enforcer.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: Pencil is an apathetic, but more caring leader and Match is a selfish Valley Girl.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: She starts off as one of the friendlier contestants, but as the series progresses, she becomes increasingly more selfish and rude. Her Jerkass behavior comes to a head in BFB 1, when she orders Lightning to electrocute people she dislikes and demotes Bubble's alliance rank for trying to stop him.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pencil loves chocolate and ice cream cake.
  • Valley Girl: Downplayed. She sometimes peppers her sentences with "like" and "OMG", but she doesn't do it as often as Match. This eventually gets phased out.

    Pin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pin_teamicon.png
"Alliance, schmalliance. Go, go!"
BFDI Rank: 20th, BFDIA Rank: ??th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squishy Cherries (Captain, BFDI), W.O.A.H. Bunch (BFDIA 1-9, BFDIA 11-), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), The Losers! (BFB 1-16), Team8s (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Cary Huang
A red push pin, leader of the Squishy Cherries in BFDI. At first, Pin was rather bossy and grumpy, but once BFDIA came around, she became much kinder and more supportive of her teammates.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses all four of her limbs in "Get in the Van" as revenge by Puffball for accidentally killing her Speaker Box, and does not regain them when killed and recovered. She gets new limbs made out of her pigment by IDFB 1, though.
  • And I Must Scream: Loses her face in "Lots of Mud" as revenge by Ice Cube for not letting her and Book go to Match's dance party. She's originally thought dead, but can only communicate via sweating.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: After spending most of BFDI 1a as a protagonist alongside Leafy, Pin's true colors are revealed once the competition comes down to only the two of them. After this, Pin makes her true nature no secret until her elimination.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: More like Bizarre Object Biology. She sweats ooze, not water. She mentions that it is a species trait as all pins do so. Also, according to the official character guide, the color of the ooze depends on how she is feeling, like a mood ring.
  • Color Failure: Golf Ball extracts the pigmentation from Pin's body prior to IDFB in order to make new limbs, and she regains her coloration by BFB.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: She is mutilated to death by Four in BFB episode 1 for no reason other than for Four to demonstrate how sadistic and monstrous he is. She gets better because Death Is Cheap.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Pin hates key lime pie.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: In BFDI, she wasn't popular with some people because of how mean she was.
    Pin: Let's take Teardrop!
    Coiny: Why her?
Pin: Because she's my best friend!!
    Coiny: How do you know?
Pin: She's the only one who hasn't said she hates me!! (Coiny stares at Pin, unimpressed. Pin goes from grinning to frowning mildly fast to the realization that Teardrop can't talk).
  • Heroic BSoD: During BFB’s sixth challenge, she worries about the possibility of Loser being eliminated since the team relied on him so much, and frets if they can do things independently if he’s gone. Thankfully, Coiny is there to give her a pep talk.
  • Hidden Depths: Pin is an excellent patisserie and seems to have a fondness for gardening, as she’s instantly able to recognize what Yoyle seeds look like, finds it "cute" when she notices Fries trying to grow potatoes (and tries to befriend him in the process), and carried some blueberry seeds with her in BFB 1.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In season 1. She was bossy, rude, and a bit manipulative, but she was on genuinely good terms with Leafy.
  • Kick the Dog: In BFDI, she pushed Tennis Ball into a hole as in her words, "You fall, you go in!"
  • Larynx Dissonance: Due to being voiced by a male, she sounds like a boy.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Debatable. In BFDIA 4, she tells Teardrop that she doesn't need immunity since everyone loves her, yet told her that she wasn't a real contestant in BFDIA 2. Because of this apparent "change of heart", there's a possibility that Pin actually manipulated her into getting eliminated by making her refuse immunity.
  • No Social Skills: Doesn't know how to make friends, as well as communicate, as mentioned by herself to Fries.
  • Old Shame: Compared to Coiny, who views BFDIA as the Glory Days, Pin holds a lot of contempt for BFDIA, likely because she spent a majority of it with her limbs removed by Puffball and her face removed by Ice Cube.
  • Plausible Deniability: She suggests taking Teardrop for W.O.A.H. Bunch because "she's the only one who hasn't said she hates me!" Given that Teardrop is incapable of talking, well...
  • Remember the New Guy?: She, Leafy, Pen, and Needle are the only four original, non-recommended contestants who weren't in Total Firey Island and made up for BFDI.
  • Speech Impediment: Not at first, but she develops a staccato way of talking, and breaks words down to syllables.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Snobby Sara variety. In TPOT 2, when she sees that her team is gluing the blocks together, she and Gaty are appalled by this and go to Two to tell on them about their team's actions. Two then says that they never said this would be qualified as cheating, which causes Gaty to stop antagonizing her team, but Pin is Defiant to the End and still tries to undo their progress on the grounds of it being cheating.
  • Super-Strength: Pin is by far the strongest character next to Loser. As shown in "Zeeky Boogy Doog", she can effortlessly shake the Eiffel Tower as if it's made of paper-mâché.
  • Supreme Chef: Wins the cake-baking contest in "Sweet Tooth" by making a cake replica of Flower, and baked the cake used for "Enter the Exit"'s Cake at Stake which X describes as being made by someone very talented. It's because of this that she's chosen to pipe Four's essence into his usual shape to revive him.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: She eventually gets her limbs back after losing them.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: She starts off rather selfish and rude. From BFDIA on, she’s a lot more cheerful and outgoing, even developing a close friendship with Coiny. In IDFB, she is extremely friendly and much kinder than ever before as she tries to befriend Fries and even tries to make small talk with him. In BFB, she does have her moments of being bossy, but they are extremely rare and she is generally very friendly throughout the BFB series.

    Rocky
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rocky_teamicon.png
"Bulleh!"
BFDI Rank: 6th, BFDIA Rank: 17th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: 32nd
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI 1-8), Another Name (Captain, BFDI 9-12), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-5), W.O.A.H. Bunch (BFDIA 6-7), BEEP (BFB 1-16), The S! (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Cary Huang, Satomi Hinatsu (BFB 12)
A quartzite mountain rock. Rocky is a rather unusual character who can commonly be seen standing around doing nothing. He has the ability to barf infinitely but usually chooses to use it on impulse rather than for a purpose.
  • Breath Weapon: Rocky's barf has a lot of uses, making effective projectiles or even being able to propel him into the air. As of BFB, it almost always takes the form of highly caustic stomach acids (or as Balloony calls it, salt and vinegar).
  • Brought Down to Normal: For the duration of BFDIA since the machine inside of his mouth producing all of the vomit was destroyed in the BFDI finale. By the time IDFB rolls around, he's able to barf at will again.
  • Flanderization: Was originally introduced as an oblivious, but cheerful child-like character who actually spoke and did not have his trademark vomit. He even showed that he could get angry at contestants like Tennis Ball. Has since become a nearly-silent barfing freak.
  • Flat Character: Aside from the Swiss Army barf, there really isn't that much about Rocky.
  • Flight: He's able to fly by rapidly fluttering his legs.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Despite his mostly pacific attitude, Rocky has abrasive relationships with most contestants due to his abrasive vomit.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Rocky has had a tendency to be utilised as a weapon by and against the other contestants.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Eats one of Fries's fries after he gets poisoned in "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3" (killing himself instantly), and swallows Nickel on Balloony's orders in "Don't Dig Straight Down". The latter incident is notable for being his first intentional kill.
  • The Load: Usually very useless in challenges, but has been shown to be useful sometimes.
  • The Millstone: Especially in season one, he almost always is the reason for his team's losses, such as when he barfed on Firey, causing him and Coiny to fight, making his team stop handstanding.
  • Nice Guy: He's made the team captain of Another Name due to having no enemies.
  • Not So Stoic: Rocky has shown to be aware of his surroundings and reacting to things around him, such as being scared when the lava is nearing him in BFB 15. When he's eliminated in TPOT 8, he becomes enraged and is about to throw a tantrum before Two teleports him away.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: In one of the earlier episodes, Rocky vengefully and knowingly kicks Tennis Ball away because he was told to help out with writing even without arms. This is a huge contrast to the Perpetual Smiler that he is in the later episodes.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Almost always wears a huge smile on his face.
  • Prone to Vomiting: "Bulleh!"
  • The Quiet One: He has had very few speaking roles in the series, with most of them being in the 1st episode and one being in the 19th episode (and one in BFDIA 6). The only sound he makes other than his signature "Bulleh!" is a high-pitched squeak. Double-subverted. Vocally reacting to Balloony's death in BFB 12 is what gives him away as BEEP's imposter.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He was eliminated in "Balancing P.A.C.T.", but just before Two eliminates him, Rocky barfs in the volcano. This would ultimately cause the Zombie Apocalypse in "Outbreak At Stake", when the contestants went to retrieve the volcano barf and save an empty Barf Bag, which caused her to turn into a zombie.
  • Stock Audio Clip: After the first episode (and mostly because his voice actor is too old to play the character), Rocky's dialogue is almost entirely this. He makes the same "bulleh" sound every time he barfs, and the same high-pitched squeak whenever he's happily responding to something. Additionally, his "wee!" line from the first BFDI episode was reused in BFDIA 7.
  • Too Dumb to Live: His constant barfing has hindered him as much as it's helped him. "Gardening Hero" has him abducted by a UFO that promptly explodes and kills him when he spews inside of it, and his first thought upon seeing Fries poisoned in "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3" is to devour part of his toxic corpse and succumb to it seconds later.
  • Vocal Dissonance: In the very few occasions that he does speak, he uses a voice much higher than even most of the girls or even Lightning and Woody.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Whenever Rocky's around, expect him to barf onscreen at least Once an Episode (outside of BFDIA, that is).

    Snowball
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snowball_teamicon.png
"Yeah! I knew I'd find a powerful teammate soon enough!"
BFDI Rank: 15th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), iance (BFB), The Strongest Team on Earth (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A snowball. Snowball is a generally unpleasant individual obsessed with power and doesn't get along with the other contestants for his short temper and tendency to be a liability in challenges.
  • Ax-Crazy: If you’re unlucky enough to piss him off, expect him to resort to physical violence or outright murder.
  • Barbaric Bully: Simultaneously one of the meanest and one of the dumbest contestants. Frequently attacks people and proclaims his strength while not being able to read.
  • Berserk Button: When Golf Ball claims he has a tiny brain, he gets pissed.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: The brooding boy to Basketball's gentle girl.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Has no clue why Fanny would be pissed off at him during Cake At Stake in BFB 12 even though he nearly completely decapitated her in the previous episode because she told him to just let Flower do the challenge to not invoke her wrath.
  • Character Development: Snowball was nothing more than a Jerkass in BFDI, but starting with BFB and especially in TPOT, he has grown to be a lot nicer to others, such as Teardrop and Grassy.
  • Dumb Muscle: One of the physically strongest characters, but he can’t even remember his own name.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Downplayed as he's mostly a jerkish bully as opposed to outright evil, but in TPOT 8, when he learns that Teardrop will be instantly eliminated if she loses a contest, he and Grassy decide to protect her for the rest of the challenge since she's sick from trying to hide inside of Barf Bag.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his aggressive and rude demeanor, he refuses to beat up Bubble when Flower asks him to. He's got no problem popping her whenever he feels like it, though.
  • False Friend: Claims that Coiny is his friend in BFDI 5, yet chooses Firey into their team in BFDI 7, despite the fact that the former didn't want the latter in the team due to his rivalry with him at the time.
  • Fantastic Racism: Shows consistent prejudice against armless objects, thinking they are weaker than those with arms. Fanny seems to be an exception since he praises her for her abrasive personality.
  • Flanderization: In the earlier episodes, while he always wanted self-praise, at least he was noticeably calmer, and would only hurt someone if they push his buttons. In the later episodes, he's a straight-up Jerkass.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: A majority of the contestants can’t stand him because of his Jerkass attitude and penchant for screwing over his own teams. It’s to the point where he’s chosen dead last for a team and joined The Strongest Team on Earth by default in TPOT 1, much to Basketball's annoyance.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Threw Rocky at Golf Ball in one instance.
  • Hidden Depths: It could be non-canon, but he admits that "Let it Go" and ''Frozen'' are important to him.
  • Jerkass: Easily one of the most unpleasant characters on the show. He's a short-tempered, meatheaded Jerk Jock who's prone to engaging in physical violence when provoked, showing frequent prejudice towards armless objects, and looking down on anyone he considers weak.
  • Jerk Jock: Along with Blocky and Eraser. While they at least have some shreds of decency, Snowball is just a thorough jerkass.
  • The Load: It's easier to count the number of times Snowball has contributed to challenges than the times he's hindered his teams.
  • Men Don't Cry: Refuses to participate in the crying contest because he believes this.
  • Narcissist: Arguably even moreso than Flower, who at least has some capacity for empathy and recognising her own flaws.
  • No Indoor Voice: He yells a whole lot of his dialogue, especially when he’s angry.
  • Out of Focus: In BFDIA. He doesn't talk, doesn't partake in chasing Leafy, and doesn't do anything of note since he's not competing in the season.
  • Picked Last: Because of his unpleasant nature, none of the contestants want to pick him for their teams in TPOT 1, and he ends up joining The Strongest Team On Earth by default because they were the only team left with an open slot. In an interesting spin on this trope, Snowball ends up being picked last because he's a meatheaded Jerk Jock, unlike the usual cliche of the macho, physically active jocks being chosen first and the nerds being chosen last.
  • Pink Is for Sissies: Snowball strongly believes this, unlike Eraser, who thinks pink is manly.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He and Blocky act as the murderous manly men to Eraser and Pen's more cordial sensitive guys.
    • Snowball is also the manly man to Grassy and Lightning's sweet-natured sensitive guys.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He’s still an aggressive meathead, but in BFB 13, he's become friendlier than usual, having normal conversations with his team and even helping save Bubble's life. He also treats Ruby like a little sister, scolding her when she does something wrong, supporting her in her opinions, and even giving her a High five for escaping the lava. In TPOT 2 he also defends Grassy, saying that he did quite well during the episode despite their team’s loss.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: He called Pie a wimp because she didn't kill anyone.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He punches Grassy in TPOT 3 hard enough to send him flying far away just because he felt like it and he lights Grassy on fire in TPOT 4 and sees nothing wrong with it!
  • Would Hit a Girl: He tried to hit Golf Ball two times, once slammed Fanny onto the ground and broke her, and has killed Bubble multiple times.

    Spongy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spongy_teamicon_6.png
"Ha ha! Not everyone's dead!"
BFDI Rank: 5th, BFDIA Rank: 13th, BFB Rank: 14th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-4), W.O.A.H. Bunch (BFDIA 5-9), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10-11), Team Ice Cube! (BFB 1-16), Have Nots (BFB 17-19)
Voiced by: Cary Huang
A dishwashing sponge. Spongy is large, powerful and friendly, but slow, somewhat dumb, and frequently bullied by everybody else for his size and personality.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Lava Trilogy (BFB 13-15).
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He is normally pretty friendly, but he leaves his team to die out of spite for the events of BFB 12 when they wanted to use his spaceship to escape the lava flood. That same lava flood was caused by him, and as a result he didn't just break the record for the most kills within a single episode — he now has the second-highest kill count of any contestant.
  • Character Development: Becomes less of a pushover in BFB and is more willing to speak up his mind.
  • Dirty Coward: Back in BFDIA 5c, Spongy is unwilling to let himself be dropped on the spikes in Evil Canyon so his team can survive, even when Nickel tells him that he'll die either way. Fast-forward all the way to BFB 14, where he leaves his teammates to die in a lava flood that he himself caused. He could have let them ride on top of his spaceship, but instead chose to just save himself.note
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Your teammates and friends upset you because they couldn't recognize that you were the imposter in a challenge and seemingly know nothing about you?note  Just pay them back by leaving them to die in a lava flood you accidentally caused, even after one of them sacrifices himself to get you to safety!
  • The Dog Bites Back: After two seasons of being abused, he finally snaps and leaves the living members of his team behind.
  • Dumb Muscle: Spongy's far from being smart, but his size means he has the brawn to make up for it.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Almost everybody else hates Spongy because of his size and bad hygiene, even though he's almost always nothing but kind.
  • Gentle Giant: By far the largest contestant in the show, and one of the kindest.
  • Hidden Depths: Spongy wants to do a lot more than his overly large size lets him do and is a bit of a thrill-seeker despite his soft demeanor, including skydiving, playing table tennis and ping-pong, tightrope walking, flying hot air balloons, flying planes, and...sailing airplanes?
  • Iron Butt-Monkey: Another one of the characters prone to getting bullied both verbally and physically from the others, Spongy is on the receiving end of quite a bit of slapstick throughout most of his time on the show. However, there's not much that can actually kill him unlike the series' other Butt Monkeys, with his only known weaknesses being lava and Spikes of Doom.
  • Karma Houdini: He caused the whole lava outbreak in BFB 14 and then refused to save his teammates for petty reasons, yet he's one of the survivors by the end of the episode. He's eliminated when his team loses the next challenge, but can't be absorbed by Four and ends up remaining in BFB when Two's arrival splits the remaining contestants into two competitions. However, he's voted out as soon as his new team is up for elimination two episodes later.
  • The Load: Spongy often slows his team down in challenges.
  • Mighty Glacier: Abundant in strength (he is said to be good at throwing in episode 5 of BFDIA, and even helps carry a bag of money the others can't carry in the same episode), but his vast weight makes it hard for him to maneuver or perform tasks the other contestants could easily perform. He's only fast enough to back several trips to the bread basket and back in BFDI 14, but he manages to carry so many loaves at a time that he's able to win the challenge and rejoin. He is only beaten in the slowness department by Rocky and Roboty (not counting the Offscreen Teleportation abilities of the latter).
  • Nice Guy: Spongy usually likes everyone, even the contestants who frequently get ostracized by others for petty reasons. Averted during the events of BFB 14, in which he betrays his teammates for a trivial reason, shoots cannonballs at Puffball since "he wanted his money's worth," and overall becomes more surly and bitter.
  • Prone to Tears: It doesn't take much to upset him.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Gentle Giant to Firey Jr.'s napoleon.
  • Supreme Chef: Is shown to be a downplayed version of this in the episode "Vomitaco", where he makes a taco that the majority of the eliminated contestants like despite it having been made with his feet.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • BFDIA 5c: He refuses to sacrifice himself for his team to survive the spikes in Evil Canyon, even though he wouldn't survive either way. He still refuses even after Nickel tells him this.
    • BFDIA 8: He ate his Asbestos cake.
    • BFB 12: In a challenge where the teams have to guess the impostor on their team, Spongy flies happily all over the place, causing him to be found out, and effectively costing his team the win.
    • Also in BFB 12, he barely says or does anything onscreen with his team before the challenge, meaning they don't know anything about him, which allows Tree to win the challenge with little effort.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In BFB 14, he prioritizes himself over his teammates when lava starts to flood the earth by refusing to let them in his private jet in addition to wanting to get back at them for their actions in BFB 12. In the next episode, he shoots cannonballs at Puffball just because they were on sale and he wanted his money’s worth.
    • He does goes back to normal in BFB 16 and apologizes for his actions during the lava incident.
    • This is backported to BFDIA 6, albeit in an Innocently Insensitive moment, where he responds to Coiny's claim that he's not the only big brained coin on the team by saying Nickel is, indirectly saying Coiny is not smart.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Donut throws him out of the way of a rising pool of lava at the cost of his life, but he then refuses to let the rest of his team ride a spaceship that they could easily fit in if he got out of it because he's mad about them failing to spot that Tree was posing as him in a challenge. Bomby is forced to sacrifice himself to get the others back to safety on the surface with the force of his explosion as a result.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: He might have abandoned his team, but considering the fact that he was used by WOAH Bunch to escape Evil Canyon, was impaled on spikes, and burned alive along with Needle, it is no wonder that he snapped. WOAH Bunch did not even apologize to him for it.
  • Your Size May Vary: In several instances, Spongy is large enough to serve as a platform for others, while in others, he's only somewhat larger than the next largest contestant, Tennis Ball.
    • Justified because sponges are able to expand in water and shrink when dried, albeit it is a bit exaggerated.

    Teardrop

...
BFDI Rank: 18th, BFDIA Rank: 20th, BFB Rank: 3rd, TPOT Rank: 29th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI), Team No Name (BFDIA 1), W.O.A.H. Bunch (BFDIA 2-4), Team Bleh (BFB 1-16), Have Cots (BFB 17-24), Newbie Alliance (BFB 28), Tear Drop (TPOT 2-)
Voiced by: N/A
A lacrimal fluid droplet. Teardrop is infamous amongst the other contestants for being very mysterious as a result of being mute and consequently easy to manipulate.
  • The Ace: By BFB, she's been characterized as this, being very crafty and determined to win. It gets to the point that she can reasonably compete against six teams of seven without much trouble in TPOT.
  • Action Girl: She's very capable in every way (bar speech).
  • The Alliance: Currently in an alliance with Gelatin and Lollipop.
  • Breakout Character: Possibly. She returned for The Power of Two for no particular reason other than a gag with Profily asking Two if they forgot someone from the show, albeit on her own team due to Death P.A.C.T. Again having just eliminated Pie and nobody else being out yet. This also makes her the only contestant to appear in every season other than Profily, if you count them as being a contestant prior to their debut, if counting BFB, its second half, and TPOT as separate.
  • Cute Mute: She's never spoken a word, beyond copying everybody else's lip flaps during the mass "Cake at Stake!" in BFDI 25.
  • Genius Loci: Being a drop of not just liquid, but the most commonly found liquid on Earth, allows her to fuse with water as revealed in TPOT. This adds to her viability against the other teams even on her own, using this ability to find a dish and fill up the Goiky Canal after plugging it back up.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Her elimination in TPOT comes from throwing herself into Barf Bag to make more super-barf as a cure against the zombies, which kills her in the process and, as the previous episode revealed, eliminates her automatically as her entire team is dead.
  • Hidden Depths: Teardrop is hinted to be fairly intelligent, as she managed to pass the test in Episode 3, with 15 points.
    • After Leafy gives her a typewriter so she could be court stenographer, she demonstrates a high amplitude for making comic books using ASCII art.
    • When her team gets stuck in Purple Face's stomach, she figures out that anybody who dies will be recovered right next to Four and can then break him out of jail — and killing Gelatin means that he gets their team the victory.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She's a veteran contestant who formed a close bond with Gelatin and Lollipop, two newbies from different seasons, after joining their alliance.
  • Never Learned to Talk: Implied. Flower mentions that "[Teardrop] doesn't even know how to talk yet" as if there's nothing stopping her from learning.
  • One-Man Army: Starting with TPOT 2, she's become the only member of her own team, going up against six teams of seven, and yet she still manages to outmatch most of them due to her being incredibly proficient at challenges by herself. Unfortunately for her, this comes with the obvious caveat that if she does lose a contest, she automatically gets eliminated due to being the only member of her team.
  • Only Sane Man: It may be because she's mute, but she's one of the few members of Bleh to not ostracize Taco for her alleged abandonment.
  • Out of Focus:
    • Her early eliminations in both BFDI and BFDIA in combination with her inability to speak haven't given her much of a chance to show much characterization. She survived BFB for nearly the time she played in both prior seasons combined, but the sheer number of characters initially didn't help until the split. She got a lot more focus from there on out. She even flipped this on her head, joining TPOT on a team all by herself.
    • There were a few episodes where Teardrop is seemingly absent, including "Are You Smarter Than a Snowball?" and "Reveal Novum".
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Sent Woody flying into the air with just a kick in the first episode.
  • The Quiet One: Teardrop is apparently unable to talk, a trait that other contestants love to abuse.
  • Signature Laugh: Granted, it's only heard once when she's eliminated in TPOT, but her laugh is distinct in that it's extremely coarse and wheezy with no vocal inflection to it, signifying her being unable to talk.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Teardrop's prize is the hand powered recovery center, which would become prominently used throughout BFDIA. But since she received the most dislikes as well, she was additionally eliminated.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the earlier seasons, Teardrop was a bit more withdrawn and unconfident due to her muteness. Come BFB and TPOT, and she is now a confident Action Girl who is perfectly willing to hurt and even kill other contestants for the sake of winning, while also being more outgoing.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: After Eraser helps her up off the ground, she pushes him into the water below, making Are You Okay lose.

    Tennis Ball
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tennisball_teamicon.png
"Are you calling me a failed inventor?!"
BFDI Rank: 10th, BFDIA Rank: ??th, BFB Rank: 16th-55th (Tied), TPOT Rank: ??th
Team: Squashy Grapes (BFDI 1-8), Another Name (BFDI 9-12), Team No Name (BFDIA 1-9, BFDIA 11-), The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute (BFDIA 10), A Better Name Than That (BFB 1-16), Are You Okay? (TPOT 1-)
Voiced by: Michael Huang (BFDI 1-3), Cary Huang (BFDI 4-present)
A tennis ball. He is best friends with Golf Ball, but unlike her, he's generally nice (unless one calls him clumsy) and is rather humble about his intelligence.
  • Back from the Dead: After eating electrified yoyleberries and dying, he suddenly reanimates himself when Golf Ball questions how she could have been in the bottom two again to tell her that she's requoted herself so many times that he wants to rip his ears off. He then resumes being dead, the entire situation both Fries and Firey Speaker Box acknowledge.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In BFDIA 5a Tennis Ball laments that Rocky didn't win the elimination prize because he wanted him to gain his barfing powers back, much to the disgust of his teammates. He's gotten them back anyway by IDFB, and TB absolutely hates how much he's barfing.
  • Berserk Button: Do not call him clumsy.
  • Birds of a Feather: Is often seen together with Golf Ball. Both are nerdy and both are sports balls.
  • Butt-Monkey: Tennis Ball is one of the most mistreated BFDI contestants. He got 1 out of the first 6 votes cast for the Squashy Grapes, he had to sit out of some challenges due to lacking arms, he totaled up to the most votes out of everyone left in episode 12 which resulted in him getting only 5 points, and the Announcer loves to pick on him and call him clumsy. He wasn't voted out by viewers either, he was voted out by contestants and lost a tie-breaker to Leafy.
  • The Chew Toy: Due to his lack of arms which results in some poor performance, the Announcer loves to pick on him.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Clumsy, smart, generally friendly, and passionate about inventions if IDFB 1 is anything to go by.
  • Gentle Giant: One of the largest characters with a nice and friendly attitude.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The huge guy to Golf Ball's tiny girl.
  • The Klutz: His large size and lack of arms make him quite clumsy, something the Announcer loves to tease him over. When he and Leafy are tied to be eliminated and must jump over a cliff to survive, it's him who messes up and bounces off.
  • Morality Pet: To Golf Ball, although she’s not evil, she’s just very bossy. He’s one of the only contestants she’s consistently friendly with.
  • Nice Guy: Compared to Golf Ball, he's a genuinely friendly guy who's just a little clumsy.
  • Only Sane Man: On several occasions, Tennis Ball has shown to be much more rational than the other contestants. Best expressed in BFDI 14 when the Announcer throws his marble collection (worth 15 bonus points) into a pool of hydrochloric acid, as rather than mindlessly jumping in like the other contestants, Tennis Ball uses his magnet to retrieve the marbles, something the other contestants wouldn't have thought of.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calm and rational blue to Golf Ball's easily angered and loud red.
  • Smart Jerk and Nice Moron: Tennis Ball is the Nice Moron to Golf Ball's Smart Jerk. Even if he is quite intelligent like Golf Ball, he isn't always able to make useful inventions without Golf Ball being on his side (as revealed in "Meaty") and is more prone to clumsy decisions.

    Woody

"Wah wah!"
BFDI Rank: 21st (Last), BFB Rank: 7th
Team: Squishy Cherries (BFDI), BEEP (BFB 1-16), Have Nots (BFB 17-24)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A slab of balsa wood. Woody is extremely timid and prone to panicking, and it's easier to count the things that don't terrify him than it is to list the things that do.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: He is this to Teardrop in Episode 1, albeit briefly, because a single kick from her sends him flying.
  • Absurd Phobia: He is afraid of everything—he even dies temporarily after seeing the color grey.
  • Back from the Dead: After his death in the BFDI finale, and not being recovered during BFDIA, Woody finally makes his return in IDFB.
  • Butt-Monkey: In season 1, where he would get made fun of for his phobias by others.
  • Character Development: Goes from being afraid of everything, to helping Flower cope with her own fear.
  • Comical Overreacting: Something as small as sticking a fork in his face tends to garner the same reaction from Woody as if he saw someone gets brutally maimed in front of him.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Burns into ashes in BFB 19, and what makes this scarier is that he hasn’t died in a long time.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Quickly established as one of the least popular contestants in the first episode, and in the second, when it's time to choose teams, he gets Picked Last.
  • Hard Head: In the first episode, a piece of his head gets chipped off after hitting Rocky, and it stays that way for the rest of the series, but doesn't seem to hurt him or even bother him.
  • Lovable Coward: Averted in BFDI, as almost no one likes him due to his pantophobia. Played straight in BFB, however, due to having his pantophobia toned down significantly and becoming more cheerful and useful in challenges.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Woody (Lovable Coward) and Taco (Bruiser with a Soft Center).
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: When he gets chipped in the first episode, he screams loud enough that Eraser and Pen can hear it from some distance away.
  • Nervous Wreck: Pretty much everything causes him to have a major freakout.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In BFB 21, his teammates give him a cardboard box to hide when he's scared. The gesture makes him very furious, and he crushes the insulting gift. When Blocky berates him for it, he angrily babbles back at him.
  • Scars Are Forever: He's retained the chip on the top of his head he received in the first episode for the entire series, regardless of dying and being recovered, and spent half of BFB's current runtime being dyed orange by Four and dented by Bell.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The shy sensitive guy to Blocky's prankster manly man.
  • Shrinking Violet: Quite the shy type.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He's gradually growing braver through BFB, culminating in surviving the lava storm in "Don't Dig Straight Down" with little fear and going on to save his team from elimination when he's left the only living member. By BFB 29, he's regularly speaking coherent English after going almost 4 whole seasons.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: As of BFB, he’s less of a wimp than in BFDI and smiles a lot more often. It’s adorable.
  • The Unintelligible: Until post-split BFB, he only ever spoke two coherent sentences, in BFB 2 and BFB 14. By BFB 28, he overcomes the speech difficulties altogether, to the point where he even gives Flower coping mechanism advice.
Roboty! (panting) Tell me where you aaaare!!! Can you hear me? We need you!!!!
    Roboty?

    David
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/david_teamicon.png
"Aw, seriously?"
BFDI Rank: 8th, BFB Rank: 59th
Team: BEEP (BFB 1-16)
Voiced by: Michael Huang
A stick figure creature known as a "David". He is pretty much only capable of saying "Aw, seriously?" and "NO!" He is one of the smaller variants of the David species, which roams the land of "Davidland".
  • Ascended Extra: He was a frequent joke in recommended characters before his debut, and received 39 unnecessary votes from viewers in "Vomitaco" (despite not being in the game). He eventually did join after getting the most votes in "Reveal Novum".
  • Big "NO!": Whenever asked if he can say anything else, expect this.
  • Brown Note: His screech can disorient people.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Aw, seriously?". Exaggerated because it's just about the only thing he says!
  • A Day in the Limelight: The "Aw, Seriously?" short marks his first major role in any BFDI video, where Pencil hires him to be her assistant.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: We know him as only being able to saw "Aw, seriously" and "NO!", but in his original appearance he also responded "Yeah?" to the Announcer when he mentioned that several people voted him to be eliminated despite not even being on the show, a part of his vocabulary that has been since dropped.
  • Everyone Has Standards: In BFB 4, he makes a disgusted grunting sound when his team makes a cake in which the batter is made out of Rocky's vomit.
Balloony: Oh, I'm sorry, David, master of baking! Sorry our cake doesn't meet your health codes!
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: He does this for Pencil in "Aw, Seriously?"
  • Gonk: David's heavily misshaped and imperfectly round head and incredibly tall and slanted eyes, along with the boiling outlines that aren't really stiff are tuned up to Stylistic Suck levels.
  • Hate Sink: David's ugly design and annoying voice show he was clearly made to be a despised character. Even the contestants think he's ugly in-universe.
  • Humans Are Ugly: There are several instances of characters stating that David is human, and they consider him to be ugly and "pure evil".
  • Hypocritical Humor: Can he say anything other than "Aw, Seriously?" NO! No, literally, the only other thing he can say is "No".
  • Informed Deformity: David is regarded by his fellow contestants as being incredibly ugly or frightening. His simple stick figure design does not show anything unpleasant about his appearance. "david.wav" has him claim that he's fat, which is hard to tell given he's a stick figure.
  • Jerkass: Generally unhelpful and annoying to everyone for little reason.
  • Line Boil: Done occasionally while he speaks.
  • Mini-Me: The Davids of Davidland are humongous, being about the height of giraffes. Golf Ball reveals in "Gardening Zero" that this is because Davids are normally this massive, and that the David who competes as a contestant on BFDI is a runt of the litter.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Not an inanimate object and animated slightly differently from the other characters.
  • Our Clones Are Identical: At some point between BFDI and BFDIA, a David Cloner kept spawning Davids, eventually creating enough to make a sea of Davids known as Davidland.
  • Our Humans Are Different: The other contestants claim that David is a human or a man multiple times. His stick figure appearance does not show it. "david.wav", an old file written from David's point of view of debatable canonicity, has him state that his species is Davidian.
  • Plot Allergy: He's allergic to sunrises, which conveniently nets Pencil the win in his debut staring contest.
  • Sixth Ranger: Was BFDI's first mid-season addition as a recommended character.
  • Stylistic Suck: David is crudely drawn even more than Four and X in the earlier episodes and Yellow Face.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: David has been shown multiple times to have even fewer friends than Spongy. Even if his appearance doesn't appear off-putting to someone, chances are that his personality will alienate them instead.
  • The Load: Usually refuses to help the rest of BEEP, and instead just stands around. Subverted in BFB 2, when he only started licking jawbreakers after the rest of his team gave up, and in BFB 5, where he piloted his team's plane.
  • The Unpronounceable: "david.wav" reveals that David isn't his real name, and that David is only a shortening of his species' name, Davidian. His real name is this trope, being hard to pronounce in the English tongue.
  • Vacuum Mouth: The way he eats the sandwich Pencil gave him in "Aw, Seriously?".
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Was only in the first season for 3 episodes, and didn't come back until BFB.
