Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.

openI Knew It as ZCE?
Lately I've been struggling with I Knew It! as trivia. Most of the examples of IKI are unsourced and general "many people guessed", which to me sounds like Zero-Context Example.
If at least there was a source (for example, saying this troper in WMG or this forum user in this website), at least it would be plausible for me to believe this trivia trope to be of some use.

What should be done with the general folder on Hollywood Psych? Deleted or moved to an analysis page?
openShout-Out Question
I am having a little bit of trouble understanding what makes a "Shout-Out." Is it simply enough to say the name of another work, or is there more involved?
openPronouns. Western Animation
I noticed in the trope pages for "Infinity Train" that One-One was consistently referred to with they/them pronouns.
I am a firm believer that they/them pronouns are only grammatically correct when you are referring to two or more people or a person whose gender you do not know. In other words, the only pronouns to use to refer to someone whose gender is known is he/him or she/her.
I took the liberty of changing One-One's pronouns to be masculine, since he is referred to with "he/him" pronouns in the series proper and is voiced by a man.
I would like if somebody checked the "Infinity Train" trope pages regularly to make sure that One-One is being referred to with his proper pronouns. I already took care of it, but there's always the possibility that he will be referred to with "they" pronouns again.
open British tv series Web Original
There was a tv series around 2013 or 2014. The lead character was Betty or Becky who was running away from someone or something along with a few other people. There was a villain who murdered people and even a small kid inside a school ruthlessly. This person turned to be Becky's (or Betty's) brother who became like this because of some experiment of his scientist father. The father had given him a rabbit when he was a small child and he had killed it. Some virus or bug was supposed to be released to mass infect people and the girl had the antidote inside her blood. I can't remember the name of the show...
openPro Jared RoleEndingMisdemeanor addition Web Original
On Nov 22nd, Ozwald Edswald added the following entry:
"Heidi herself would not escape this trope either. During the controversy many were suspicious of her accusations towards Jerad, feeling that some were baseless or contradicted already existing information. Later on these suspicions proved true and many of Heidi's tweets were revealed to be exaggerations and even outright lies. Then when it was revealed that Heidi had been abusing her husband, her reputation sank even farther than Jared's."
I removed this on the 25th, citing a lack of evidence. I then received a PM from Ozwald with a link to a reddit thread discussing it, but I do not feel this is enough to warrant the entry since it is very circumstantial points and is saying Heidi's reputation is tanked even though there is no evidence to that. Ozwald readded the entry earlier today.
Just wanted to bring it up here for review since I don't agree it counts.
Edit: I responded to him with a link to this ATT.

Is Shout-Out to Shakespeare a trope? I've seen it used as one, but it's a redirect to ReferencedBy.William Shakespeare
openHow to Link Multiple Tropes to a Single Video Example
I was wondering how to link different tropes to a single video example. For example, the Beast Wars clip in the Shut Up, Hannibal! page is also an example of [Verb] This!, via Optimus Primal's quote "Speech this." How do I add the link to the description?
openMars And Venus Gender Contrast
I'm mining examples from this trope that fit better on my TLP draft Girls Vs Boys Plot. In doing so, I've noticed a lot of ZCEs that need to be cleaned up, as per usual... but then I found this section:
Some comedians that rely heavily on this trope:
- Jo Brand
- Bill Hicks (see "Chicks dig jerks)"
- Denis Leary
- Chris Rock
- Adal Ramones
- Christopher Titus
- Whitney Cummings
- Margaret Cho, although it's more a case of Gay Dude Straight Dude
- German comedian Loriot who coined the quote: "Männer und Frauen passen einfach nicht zueinander!" (Men and women simply don't fit together!)
I could just hide these as your normal everyday ZCE, but it just feels weird to even have at all, just a list of people who apparently make jokes about this sort of thing. For now I'm commenting it out, but I'm wondering if it should even be there. The only one that even has a little context is Loriot, which is the only one I'm not hiding as it's not a ZCE.
open spoiler tag question Literature
Are the spoiler tags on Adventures of Huckleberry Finn really necessary? It is a one hundred and thirty-five year old book, surely it must be spoilers off?
open Permission to cut.
The following gush on Gush.New Media was supposed to have been removed, but it still seems to be there. Permission to cut?
- After a year of being part of the TGWTG fandom, lurking in the message boards and Lord Kat and JewWario's chats, I am completely blown away; they really are some of the coolest people I've ever met. Spoony is just as lovably geeky and quick-witted live as he is in his videos; Linkara is a fun, sweet guy who honestly appreciates his fans, and Iron Liz is much of the same (and incredibly funny to boot); Nella is a helluva lot of fun; Benzaie is frank, funny, and one of the coolest message board mods ever (seriously, how many mods do you know who break up an argument by making pervy jokes?); Film Brain is a humble kid who's just happy to be part of the fun, and honestly respects and looks up to his co-workers; LordKat and RolloT are two of the most hilarious guys you will ever hear from—and LordKat is fiercely defensive of the people he cares about; and Nash is the very personification of Geeky Turn-On (just get him talking about Doctor Who and you'll see what I mean). So thanks, guys, for being yourselves; thanks for being so completely... awesome.
openRecreating a cut work page?
So a page I made was cut because the work was unreleased and someone felt some of it was speculative troping, which is fair enough. They changed it to a sandbox page.
So now that the work is out, how do I go about recreating the page? Do I just make the work page again and cut the sandbox?
openWhat page to cite for "don't rely on other part of an article"?
It's going on in PM so I can't reveal the detail. But in summary, I comment out ZCE ("In the ending, this trope happen." type) and sent notifier to the troper who added it. They claim that other examples on that page make it clear that "X is strong" and thus shouldn't require more expansion.
What page should I direct them to?
openScream: Curse of Carnage restoral
Now that Scream: Curse of Carnage is finally out, can we restore the page that was moved to Scream Curse Of Carnage? I will work on adding new tropes.
openwhat is IUEO
i tried to see if this was asked before but couldn't find any recent asks. What is IUEO? I see it come up a lot with people deleting Ear Worms.
openStatue of Liberty
So, the Statue of Liberty has both an Art and Useful Notes page. Are these redundant? Should they be merged?
open On a deleted review
I recently posted a Luigi's Mansion 3 review and it was deleted. I suspect the reason is that I hadn't played it, but nothing I commented on would require me to actually physically hold the controller to observe. I didn't comment on the controls at all, I believe. Given this, I'd like to know why it was deleted, and if it's possible to recover it in any way so that I might post it somewhere that isn't here.
openHow Do I Make A Works Page?
Hi, guys. I was hoping to create a T Vtropes page for a fanfiction series that I am a huge fan of, but for some reason, I can't quite seem to figure out how to get the ball rolling properly, and I'm pretty sure I followeed the instructions. The fanfic series I hope to create a page for is a Persona 5 series called "Ace In The Hole." I'll try adding another Red Link to the wiki sandbox. Hopefully this will help. Please help me.
We're not allowed to add ymmv tropes to our own works right ?
As ElfenLiedFan90 added an Evil Is Sexy entry to the ymmv page of Dresden's Haunted Forest. Despite being the author.
As you can see here
