G-Force is a video game adaptation of the 2009 Disney film of the same name that was released the same year for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox 360, and iOS. In it, you play as Darwin, the leader of the team, assisted by Juarez, Blaster, Speckles, and Mooch.


Tropes:

  • Action Bomb: Alarm clocks and "berserk" CPU fans: upon spotting Darwin they will slowly waddle towards him and then explode when close enough.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Speckles pulls a Heel-Face Turn near the end of the movie, but in the game he remains a villain right up until his defeat.
  • Air-Vent Passageway: What the player will be doing at least 50% of the time.
  • Airborne Mook: The air freshener, desk lamp, electric shaver, fire extinguisher, radio clock, torch, non-automated vacuum cleaner, & wall speaker can all fly.
  • Barrier Warrior: The satellite dish can generate a red-colored barrier to block areas off or protect another appliance. Darwin can also Nanohack one to provide himself with a protective shield.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Darwin can be injured & even killed numerous ways, but blood never appears on him or anywhere else. Justified as it's a game meant for kids.
  • Brown Note: The ceiling and wall speakers generate ultra high-frequency vibrations that can harm Darwin (though once he obtains the blueprints for them they somehow don't affect him anymore: in fact he can eventually start using the speakers as anchors to traverse obstacles) and anyone else who hears them, as two unfortunate FBI HRT operatives unwittingly demonstrate.
  • Canon Foreigner: A lot of the appliances are new for the game, with only some being seen in the movie.
  • Combat Tentacles: The radio clocks have long tentacles hanging from their undersides which they can use to whip Darwin with.
  • Cyber Cyclops: A number of the appliances have a single eye with the Saberling logo on it.
  • Deadly Gas: The air freshener's main weapon (ironically).
  • Deadly Rotary Fan: The extractor fan: nearly demonstrated when one tries to pick an FBI HRT operative up (his colleague shoots the fan dead before that happens however).
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The personal computer, toaster, air freshener, & desk lamp are seen in the Sabersense launch cutscene before they're met in-game later on.
    • Likewise two paper shredders appear in scripted sequences at the very beginning of Chapter 2: Snowball Unleashed and another one is taken out by an HRT operative later on in the same chapter before getting an introduction (& being fought) right when Darwin finds the safe containing the speaker blueprints (also in "Snowball Unleashed").
    • Dr. Elaine Stone & Dr. Elliott Stone, two scientists who will be seen at least twice later on, make an appearance during Saber's pre-Sabersense launch speech if the player waits long enough while getting a keycard.
    • The automated vacuum cleaner can first be glimpsed in an advert during the Saberling Offices level before being encountered "in-person" at the start of Packing & Shipping.
  • Enemy Scan: The Saberlizer "weapon" allows you to scan each appliance you come across & determine what their weaknesses are.
  • Energy Weapon: The coffee maker and motion sensor have laser beams as their main methods of attack.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: Zig-zagged: most of Darwin's weapons are fictitious in design, including the ammo they use, but the FBI HRT operatives seen early on in the game wield actual M4-style assault rifles that fire actual bullets (they only use them against appliances however so that's likely how the game only got an E10+ rating).
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: Ironically the fire extinguisher's main weapon. You can also attack any enemy with a flamethrower of your own (once you've unlocked it, of course), though it's mainly for melting ice.
  • Freeze Ray: One of the soda cooler's attacks as well as a weapon that can be bought.
  • Flushing-Edge Interactivity: The FBI levels have a few flushable toilets.
  • Gravity Sucks: All the satellites Yanshu's Kill Sat shoots down immediately fall to Earth, including the one that ends up destroying his Humongous Mecha Clusterstorm & defeating him.
  • Harmless Enemy: The CPU fan can only slow the player down (not the berserk variant though), the satellite dish can only block the player's way or prevent them from destroying another appliance, & the automated vacuum cleaner can only suck the player up & shoot them out of its perimeter.
  • Heavily Armored Mook: The automated vacuum cleaner and paper shredder have shields so tough that only the laser from a motion sensor will kill them (or a Nanohacked non-automated vacuum cleaner for the latter due to an oversight).
  • Helpful Mook: The desk lamp may ferry appliances around (including into battle with the player), but its cord can also be grabbed onto in order to traverse otherwise impossible obstacles (such as radioactive waste).
    • Darwin uses a fire extinguisher's flamethrower to melt ice on a few occasions.
    • The automated vacuum cleaner can be used to reach otherwise inaccessible areas once the Nanohacker v2 is acquired.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The satellite that Yanshu activates and starts destroying other satellites ends up defeating him when one of the satellites it shoots down rockets right into Clusterstorm.
  • Homicide Machines/Killer Robot/Mecha-Mooks: The appliances you'll encounter throughout the game.
  • Humongous Mecha: Clusterstorm, the final boss.
  • Inescapable Ambush: During the FBI Forensics: Courtyard level Darwin exits a room and the door locks behind him: desk lamps then show up carrying various appliances, all of which must be defeated in order to proceed through another door.
  • Insistent Terminology: G-Force calls the tactical operatives that can be seen in a few levels the "SWAT team", even though their gear has obvious "FBI" & "HRT" ("Hostage Rescue Team") labels on it.
  • Jet Pack: Darwin has one of these: he can use it to reach higher platforms and evade enemies.
  • Kill Sat: What Yanshu calls his "ultimate creation": a satellite in orbit equipped with a laser weapon able to take out other satellites. This ends up being his undoing at the end of the game.
  • Lightning Gun: Darwin's Electro-Whip is a beam of electricity that he can use to whack any enemy or break open containers with.
  • Lock and Key Puzzle: A number of doors in the game can only be opened with a keycard, which the player must find and throw into a keycard reader to unlock the door.
  • Mighty Glacier: This is the paper shredder in a nutshell: deadly due to its saw blades but slow in walking.
  • Mighty Roar: The paper shredder is one of the biggest appliances, & fittingly it roars.
  • Mission Control: Juarez fills this role, opening doors for the player and guiding them through each level. Speckles also does this for a time.
  • Mook Maker: One of the personal computer's attacks: it can produce a sizable amount of CPU fans that slow down the player.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: The waffle iron and security door.
  • Not Quite Dead: As revealed by the final cutscene, Speckles survives Clusterstorm's defeat.
  • Patrolling Mook: Most of the appliances do this when in an idle state.
  • Rescue Equipment Attack: A more literal example as almost every fire extinguisher you'll find attacks you with a jet of flame.
  • Reviving Enemy: The ceiling speaker, desk lamp, extractor fan, motion sensor, security camera, and wall speaker can be only temporarily stunned and thus will eventually return to normal operation.
  • Rewarding Vandalism: Destroying boxes and whacking/shooting open garbage cans can net you health, ammo, and Sabersense chips.
  • Saw Blades of Death: The CD player, desk fan, paper shredder, and electric shaver's weapon of choice.
  • Sentry Gun: The security turret acts like this: it'll monitor an area if active and shoot at Darwin if he gets too close.
  • Shock and Awe: What the insect zapper does to poor Mooch if the latter gets close enough. Also the optical mouse's weapon of choice via its electrified cord.
  • Sigil Spam: Rarely can you go for long without seeing the Saberling logo somewhere.
  • Sleepy Enemy: In Chip Manufacturing you'll encounter a paper shredder that acts this way, only awakening if a security camera spots the player.
  • Spin Attack: The water cooler's primary attack and the fire extinguisher's secondary attack.
  • Stationary Enemy: The extractor fan, insect zapper, motion sensor, security camera, security door, and security turret are all fixed in place and can't move (though the motion sensor can at least move a little down the wall it's on sometimes).
  • Sticky Situation: Some levels inexplicably have large areas of glue in them: in addition one type of food processor can shoot glue at the player to slow them down.
  • Stompy Mooks: The paper shredder & coffee maker are very much this, emitting loud footstep sounds when weaponized and patrolling.
  • The End... Or Is It?: At the end of the game, Speckles' hand pops out from underneath the rubble of Clusterstorm.
  • Transformation Sequence: Anytime an appliance weaponizes (which is often how they're introduced as well).
  • Vicious Vac: The vacuum cleaners: one kind will suck you up and then punt you out of its territory, and the other will fire at you with either a drill gun or flash camera until you're dead.
  • Weaponized Camera: Sometimes you'll run into a vacuum cleaner that has a camera as a weapon (albeit one that actually fires projectiles).
  • We Can Rule Together: During Chapter 4:
    Yanshu: But why should we work against each other? Do you really care about those who treat you so poorly? Just think of the havoc we could reap together! Humanity wouldn't know what hit it!
    Darwin: A partnership? With you Yanshu? You're talking to the wrong mammal: you're going down.
  • Wham Shot: Several:
    • The sequence of appliances weaponizing that show G-Force's attempt to stop Sabersense from being activated failed.
    • Yanshu revealing his "ultimate creation": a laser-equipped Kill Sat that starts targeting other satellites.
    • Yanshu revealing himself as Speckles.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: Nearly subverted but then ultimately played straight: at the beginning of the game G-Force attempts to stop Sabersense from being launched, & even though they interrupt Leonard Saber's video link during the countdown Sabersense still activates anyway, thus making every Saberling appliance into an enemy for the rest of the game.
