  1. Fanfic. Not The Intended Use Zantetsuken Reverse: Naoki in the first two fics was an eager, enthusiastic, and slightly irresponsible Boisterous Bruiser. Naoki here is more subdued, pensive, and self-doubting, reluctant to get others involved in his problems. Mina has much less self-confidence, with a constant desire to become a powerful fighter, while questioning if her friends trust her with dangerous situations. None of this was present in the previous versions of the fic.
  2. Characters. The Transformers More Than Meets The Eye Former Crew: Many versions of First Aid are pacifists. This one, not so much.
  3. WesternAnimation.Time Warp Trio: The boys are less snarky and selfish than they were in books. Sam is also more cowardly and paranoid, Jodie is more of a selfish Valley Girl than in the book series (though this is much more toned down in the later episodes), and Freddi has become as cowardly as Sam, which was slightly hinted in at least one book.
  4. Characters.Sonic The Hedgehog IDW The Restoration: This incarnation of Shadow is portrayed as being far more rash and hard headed compared to his original counterpart in Sonic Forces, who followed the cold-headed stoic persona created by Shiro Maekawa. Compared to both Archie and the Adventure-era games, he's also far more no-nonsense, with less instances of him smiling and his dorkier and hammier moments diminished.
  5. Fanfic.Rise From The Ashes: Because Neito and Hitoshi are in the heroics programme, in 1-A and 1-B respectively, they are far less antagonistic than their canon counterparts. Additionally, Sir Nighteye is far more civil and cordial towards Izuku than his canon counterpart. While he does admit his frustration at seeing years of work go up in smoke because of Izuku's unexpected intervention, Nighteye gives Izuku credit where credit is due. Although this could also be a result of Izuku not being All Might's successor in this AU, so far Word of God has not said anything about this possibility.
  6. Characters. From The New World: Clingy Jealous Girl: Due to her Adaptation Personality Change in the manga, Maria is a lot clingier and more possessive towards Saki than she is in the novel or the anime.
  7. Characters.Girls Bravo: The anime toned down or outright removed a lot of her manga incarnation's personality traits. These include her penchant for emotional outbursts, Large Ham tendencies, and occasional comedic misunderstanding-induced paranoia about various aspects of Earth culture.
  8. Roleplay.Welcome To My World: While Mephiles the Dark in the canon is an irredeemable monster, Mephiles West was more of a Jerkass and Anti-Villain type, initially, before Taking a Level in Kindness. West is easily ticked off because of Bi-Polar disorder (reminds you of someone, right?), where Dark is just plain evil. As well as being smarter, Big is stated to be "more likable" than his canon counterpart.
  9. Characters.Batman Arkham Series Batfamily: Much like the DC Animated Universe (whose Tim Drake was based on Jason Todd), this Tim doesn't have a lot of his comics personality of being a slightly meek, nice, laidback Robin who is more of a detective than the other Robins. This Tim is based more on comics!Dick Grayson, being a wise-cracker who trash talks and taunts Rogues in a way Batman does not, and shares his romance with Barbara/Oracle in this continuity. He's also implied to be closer to Barbara and Nightwing in age, compared to being a teenager in the comics.
  10. Characters. The S Classes That I Raised: Downplayed. It's not entirely change, but it's noticeably different for Novel reader. Yoojin in the manhwa is goofier compared to his novel counterpart.
  11. Literature. The Smiling Proud Wanderer: In the original novel Yang Lianting is the dominant man in a homosexual relationship with Dongfang Bubai, and is arguably the de-facto leader of the Sun Moon Sect. In the Chinese TV series (2013) he becomes a completely different character due to a differently motivated and actual female Dongfang Bubai. This version is instead a Linghu Chong look-alike (same actor) who Dongfang Bubai treats like a boy-toy and regularly abusing him. This version cowers under and secretly plots against Dongfang Bubai, and also had an intense hate for Linghu Chong because he's the root cause of his abuse at Dongfang Bubai's hands.
  12. Characters.A Series Of Unfortunate Events 2017 Other Characters: Much of her dialogue alludes her being a resentful Old Maid who longs for children, with her interest in the orphans being seen as a bit of overcompensating. While she would eagerly try to adopt the Baudelaires in the books, she's not nearly as desperate.
  13. Series.Lois And Clark: At the time of airing most people's perception of the Clark Kent/Superman characters were from Christopher Reeve's portrayal in the film series: Clark being incredibly dorky and irritating and Superman being almost inhumanly masterful and charismatic. Perhaps mindful of just how grating a "dorky" Clark would be over an entire series and wanting to make the romance elements more believable the TV series Clark is much more assertive, confident and charismatic. (This is another call back to the 1950s series, where George Reeves often played Clark this way.) At the same time Superman is far more down to earth making the two personalities much more similar than the film incarnations. Also the makers incorporated into the show:
  14. Characters.Kurokos Basketball Generation Of Miracles: A downplayed example when it comes to the stage plays. While he's still portrayed as a polite stoic, Kuroko notably shows emotion a bit more often, whereas the manga/anime Kuroko would only show emotion every so often. note A prime example of this is when Hanamiya in the second stage play gets up in Kuroko's face. While manga/anime Kuroko looks at him with disdain, stage play Kuroko visibly looks pissed and slaps Hanamiya's hand off when the latter forcibly raises his chin.
  15. Fanfic.Vales Underground: Downplayed with Ren. He's just a little more talkative rather than just being The Quiet One.
  16. Characters. The Witcher Lodge Of Sorceresses: She's far more vain, ruthless and power-hungry in the games than in the books. On the flip side, she's also significantly more capable (doesn't mean competent) in them than she was ever in the saga, where her schemes are easily foiled on a routine basis and she can't wrap her head around the very obvious reasons why.
  17. VideoGame.Mega Man Star Force: Love Triangle: Luna is in a Two-Person Love Triangle with Mega Man (whom she has an exaggerated crush on) and Geo (whom she initially holds in contempt) and eventually grows to reconcile those impressions; Geo considers her his Protectorate and has secretly given her his Declaration of Protection. Geo and Sonia (in the games) are Birds of a Feather who become each other's First Friends by Bonding over Missing Parents; Lyra, acting as Sonia's Cool Big Sis, actively pushes Sonia into asking Geo on a date.
  18. Characters.Hanebad: Given the Darker and Edgier nature of the anime adaptation, Ayano ends up getting hit the hardest by this. In the manga, she's something of an Idiot Savant and Cloud Cuckoolander. The Cavalier Competitor and Sore Loser tendencies comes more from immaturity rather than actual malice. In the anime, she has deep-seated abandonment issues and seems barely coping with depression.
  19. Characters.Young Justice 2010 Apokolips: Unlike most versions of Granny, who are straightfowardly sadistic and cruel, she plays at being a sweet and kindly old lady, even keeping up the tone while carrying out the hideous cruelty typical of the character.
  20. Characters.Infinity Train Court Of Cyclamen: She's much more plucky and extroverted than in canon.
  21. Anime.Devil May Cry The Animated Series: In the games, Dante is a wisecracking wild man, who always fights like he's having the time of his life. The anime made him far more laid back, and took away most of his personality quirks in the process. He also gripes more about not getting paid for his work, whereas several lines in the first game indicate that he's not that concerned about money. Lady is considerably more laid-back and sarcastic compared to her persona in the third game where she was an intense and focused Determinator driven by revenge. Justified, as that game saw her in the middle of a very personal conflict, but now that this conflict is resolved, she no longer needs to push herself so hard.
  22. AdaptationExpansion.Watching Amphibia: The redux further explores Marcy's being on the Autism Spectrum, by noting they suffer from an anxiety disorder and has various coping mechanisms to try and deal with things, such as fidgeting, biting things, tapping their pencil, and a special weighted blanket they were given by Sasha for their birthday. It likewise examines how their parents, due to undergoing Adaptation Personality Change, don't necessarily approve of them being on the spectrum, treating their coping mechanisms as stupid and requiring they hide them. Overall, their behavior is heavily likened to traits of both Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD without being outright said.
  23. Characters.Teen Titans Go Robin: Unlike the self-less, confident, stern-headed leader that was the Robin of the original series, this Robin is a whiny, egotistical, obnoxious psycho with an inferiority complex.
  24. Film.Forrest Gump: In the film, Jenny is a vapid party girl, while in the novel, she winds up pressuring Forrest to stop meandering from one weird occupation to the next and finally settle down. In the novel Forrest is much more crass and outspoken. For example, Forrest refers to The Vietnam War as "a bunch of shit" multiple times in the novel, farts in public, and uses racial epithets toward both blacks and Asians. In the film he is much more innocent and polite.
  25. Characters.Ive Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level: In the anime, Kuku's musical persona goes from dark 'death-style' to a more emotional and happy style to match her happier persona. However, in the light novels, while Kuku changes her approach somewhat, her songs still remain dark and depressing, to the point of being able to cause people to fall into despair and depression. In a later volume when she is able to broadcast her music, she deliberately cuts herself off after the first verse saying that the rest of the song might be upsetting to the audience (it would).
  26. Characters.Wolverine And The X Men 2009 Acolytes: Lorna's comic incarnation has never had any desire to join or work with her father, outside of one period where she was horrifically traumatized. Also, this Lorna is also a timid shut-in.
  27. Characters.Teito Monogatari: His portrayals in The Last Megalopolis and Doomed Megalopolis are so opposite of each other, you'd swear you were looking at Mirror Universe counterparts of the same character.Adaptational Heroism: In The Last Megalopolis, he tries to do what he can to protect his family from Kato, despite not knowing how to use magic. At the end of the film, he tries to put Masakado back to sleep all by himself in order to rescue Yukiko. Adaptational Villainy: In Doomed Megalopolis, however, he's a Smug Snake and an abuser. He strangles Yukari as a child, causing her psychic powers to emerge. He also rapes her after she's been rescued from Kato. In the final episode, he tries to kill both Yukari and Yukiko until Narutaki and Rohan stop him. There are parts in the OVA where he starts to show remorse for what he's done, but he usually goes right back to his old ways.
  28. Characters.Bridge To Terabithia: She becomes more bubbly and friendly in the 2007 film.
  29. Fanfic.Peeking Through The Fourth Wall: In "Bunking In", "One Angry Person", and "Fury of Lincoln Loud", Lincoln is way whinier and more pessimistic than usual. In "Lynn's Bruised Hand", Lynn is way less tough, worrying that she will be disabled by a bruised hand. "The Edgy House" turns Luan from a genuinely happy girl to one who fakes happiness. Subverted as Lincoln is only joking.
  30. Characters.Persona 3 Protagonists: Between the manga and the anime film tetralogy, from which Persona Q takes cues from regarding the male protagonist's character. In the manga, the protagonist is aloof but is much more prone to showing emotions (such as dismay from Yukari being suspicious of him in their first encounter). In the films, he's aloof and stoic, not to mention somewhat antisocial until he starts to bond with the rest of S.E.E.S and especially Ryoji. Q takes some cues from this by having him act stoic and aloof, but also being The Comically Serious.
  31. VideoGame.Sherlock Holmes The Awakened: The game original characters are about how you remember them, even the ones who had gender swaps, but Holmes and Watson are now younger versions of themselves and have slightly different personalities as a result. This also applies to Lord Rochester, who we see more of in the final moments of the game, and possibly Ashmat, who's final journal entry suggests he was more aware of himself while under the cult's influence, and aware how horrific his suicide added in this version was.
  32. Characters. The Magic Roundabout: In the revival series, he was more mischievous and had the tendency to play tricks on others while in the English version of the original series as well as the 2005 film, he was much more calm, collected, suave and dignified.
  33. Anime.Hellsing: Anderson is considerably less hammy and more restrained here, even seeming more smug at times due to his seiyu's higher pitched voice compared to Ultimate's Norio Wakamoto.
  34. WesternAnimation. The Jungle Book 1967: Many. Most obviously, Baloo and Bageehra essentially switch personalities, and Kaa becomes a conniving villain rather than a wise mentor for Mowgli.
  35. AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.Game Of Thrones: Is Euron Greyjoy a crass, arrogant hooligan, or a master showman who delivers what people want to see while being a much greater threat than anyone realizes? He seems to switch personas based on who he is interacting with, acting the crude, misogynistic brute to win the favor of the Ironborn, acting more suave and charming towards Cersei, and playing the part of a psychotic brute when facing his enemies. However, when he's speaking to Balon, he comes across as a cold, megalomaniacal sociopath, much like his book counterpart. Perhaps his Adaptation Personality Change isnt as severe as it seems, but simply the result of him playing to other characters' expectations.
  36. Characters.HISHE Star Wars: This Darth Vader becomes a total goofball whenever he hears he, or anyone else, has descendants.
  37. Recap.Duck Tales 2017 S 1 E 5 Terror Of The Terra Firmians: While not precisely evil, the Terra-firmians in the 1987 series and the original Carl Barks story were massive jerks who couldn't care less about the destruction their Games caused. The only thing at all frightening about these Terra-firmians is how they look in the dark.
  38. Characters. My New Devil Wife: In the novel version, he's not afraid to call out Helvi when he thinks she steps out of line. In the manga, he's so, so devoted to her that it borders on My Master, Right or Wrong, as he will call out anyone who angers her. Case in point, when two female mercenaries he used to partner with drag Helvi into a duel, and she wipes the floor with them without even trying, Novel Theo would yell at Helvi for taking things too far after crushing them to the ground with gravity magic. In the manga, when the same event happens, he looks at said female mercenaries coldly and says "you picked a fight with my wife, you're getting your just deserts."
  39. Characters.MCU Natasha Romanoff: Natasha Romanov is a far more morally ambiguous character in the comics, with her character originating as a villainous KGB spy for many In-Universe years before she performed a Heel–Face Turn to good (and even then she became "only" an Anti-Hero). In the MCU, while Nat has had a history being a spy (to the point where she was recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D. since she wanted to be The Atoner on behalf of "the red in [her] ledger"), unlike the comics she gets recruited for S.H.I.E.L.D. and actually helps Nick Fury create the Avengers. Also, in the comics Nat is more of a lone wolf while in the movies (even her solo one) she's at her best with a team.
  40. Film.Heidi 2015: Cheerful Child: Heidi, of course. Not Klara here, however.
  41. WebVideo.Ace Attorney According To An AI: Kristoph speaks a lot less formally in #4 than he does in canon.
  42. Characters.Power Rangers Cosmic Defenders: He is much less of a Boisterous Bruiser compared to Champ.
  43. Characters.MCU Moon Knight: Steven Grant has much more in common with Bruce Wayne in the comics, being a businessman and playboy who is very self-confident for the most part. The series shows Grant to be a significantly meeker and unhappy person who suffers from insomnia and is barely scraping by as a museum employee.
  44. Characters.A Student Out Of Time Hopes Peak: Miaya has more of a personality here given that the story takes place in the past and how she wasn't killed and replaced by Monaca's robot like in DR3.
  45. Fanfic.Weight Of The World: Due to the series being written before Volume 5 came out, Adam, Raven and Ozpin's personalities differ from canon.Adam is a compelling leader, former Well-Intentioned Extremist, and less Ax-Crazy instead of the General Failure Psycho Ex-Boyfriend from the show. Raven is A Lighter Shade of Black Social Darwinist who refuses to fight for Ozpin because of how Summer Rose died. Meanwhile in the show Raven is a Dirty Coward who has no defensible reason for abandoning the fight against Salem. Ozpin is a much more morally gray character who is willing to go to extreme lengths in order to defeat Salem. This was a valid interpretation of his character before Volume 6 was released and painted him as a morally righteous Knight in Shining Armor.
  46. Fanfic.Onegai Megami Sama: Zigzagged with Matagu. He keeps his personality from the original series, rather than turning into his Brother–Sister Incest-obsessed self from the sequel.
  47. Characters.Tsurune: In the anime, he is more collected and calm.
  48. WebVideo.Trains With Faces: Nearly every character's personality has changed drastically. Craig is now a lot more friendly and calm, Percy is completely insane, Toby has a southern accent, and S.C.Ruffey is now a mob boss.
  49. Characters.Mega Man Classic Robot Masters NES: Some of their personalities in Powered Up do not line up with what the CD data and other supplemental materials suggest. Given that Powered Up is a reboot, it likely can be explained with them being in an alternate timeline.
  50. Characters.Hypnosis Mic Mad Trigger Crew: Batman Grabs a Gun: Despite his rule to never raise his hand at a woman, he does take a swing at Ichijiku in Rhyme Anima, before Jyuto stops him.
  51. Fanfic.Heroes DXD This Is Our Story: A slight one, but Izuku is a bit more bitter and snarky than in canon.
  52. Characters.Assassins Creed The Templars: Being played by Jeremy Irons also seems to have altered his personality as he's Affably Evil and a little more patient, a far cry from the impatient bully of much of the franchise. It helps that he's interacting with his daughter and superiors instead of harassing his underlings.
  53. Characters.Beast Wars Expanded Universe: In the Ascending comic, he's give a more hyperactive, battle-eager personality making him almost the complete opposite of his original characterization.
  54. WesternAnimation.Batman The Long Halloween: Harvey's wife Gilda is portrayed more emotionally distant and subdued here, but it turns out to be justified due to Adaptational Backstory Change. Specifically, Falcone forced her into a traumatic backdoor abortion that, in her own words, "left [her] broken".
  55. Characters.Injustice One Earth Regime: This version of Damian retains his comic counterpart's ego, but also gives him a level of casual snark (best seen in the flashback with him and his father) that is otherwise uncharacteristic of Damian and more in line with one of the other Robins.
  56. Characters.Exalted Exalted Of Creation: 3E makes her more stable than she was previously.
  57. Series.Shes Gotta Have It: Greer in the film was a stuffy, yuppieish, Sharp-Dressed Man with a strong disdain toward other Black men. The series character is a far more laidback man who favors casual wear and has no such opinion. Jamie is now the one usually in suits, with a high-paying office job, and kind of stuffy, switching this a bit with Greer.
  58. Film.Pride And Prejudice 2005: In the book, Georgiana is a younger female version of Mr Darcy; one of her major characteristics is being painfully shy in front of new people. In this version, she's a bubbly social butterfly with a sunny disposition who immediately chats with Elizabeth with perfect ease.
  59. Characters.Osomatsu Kun: She was good-hearted and friendly girl, if headstrong in the manga and 1966 anime versions. Although in the 1988 anime, she was nicer in the very early episodes and in occasional "Alternate Universe" episodes, through the rest of the series, she well...went the opposite.
  60. Characters.Samurai Shodown 2019: Hibiki's "insane route" persona falls under this. In Last Blade 2, while she becomes desensitized to killing her opponents, it's portrayed in a more ambiguous manner as shere merely grows out of her shyness and becomes more determined. In Samurai Shodown, however, her insanity turns her into a full-on Yandere who gets a little too excited when she finds a great warrior to kill.
  61. VideoGame.Shrek 2: Little Red Riding Hood in the original movie had little character beyond being afraid of ogres and otherwise appeared to be a normal little girl. In the game, Lil' Red was reinvented as a spunky, sarcastic, tomboyish softball pitcher who isn't afraid to sass villains and is good friends with Shrek, Fiona and Donkey.
  62. Characters.Cardfight Vanguard V Series Anime: While still aloof, Kai is a bit nicer and more openly supportive of Aichi in this continuity than he was in the previous one. Image 15 implies that his personality was more akin to that his original series counterpart while he was a member of Foo Fighters. He's also more quick to emote, showing visible distress at the idea of Ren and Tetsu deciding to move in with him while the PSYqualia Zombie mess is going on.
  63. Characters. The Real Ghostbusters: Downplayed — he mainly has the same personality he has in the movies, but the cartoon also gives him a fear of certain animals like cockroaches and rats, and a general hatred of bugs in general, that his movie counterpart lacked.
  64. Fanfic. The Butterfly Effect Caffeine Clouds: Zig-Zagged. By virtue of being an altered timeline, most if not all of the characters go through varying degrees of changes in their personality, ranging from Rouge the Bat, who is considerably more pessimistic and cold-hearted than her canon counterpart but still recognizable, to Tails, who acts downright malicious at times and is actively working as a villain alongside Eggman
  65. Fanfic.Mia Fey Ace Attorney The Fools Turnabout: Ohya is a lot more belligerent than she is in the game. A commenter compared her to Lotta Hart.
  66. Characters.Hegemony: Even setting aside her Adaptational Nice Guy traits, Catra's personality is drastically different from her canon counterpart. As presented in Hegemony, Catra is a Working-Class Hero who works hard to make it through and comes to appreciate Hordak and the Horde, whereas her canon counterpart was a Brilliant, but Lazy rival who only put real work in to surpass Adora, having long since given up on much else due to understanding that Shadow Weaver will abuse her no matter what.
  67. Characters.Young Justice 2010 League Of Shadows: The original Black Spider has practically no humor and acts as Knight Templar, whereas this version is a wisecracking assassin.
  68. Fanfic. The Curse Of The Anime Protagonist: Because he's never been bullied by Katsuki, Izuku doesn't grow up to be the meek boy he used to be in canon. He's a lot snarkier and more likely to speak his mind.In contrast, Katsuki in this iteration is more mellow than his canon counterpart, noticeably less violent towards his peers but definitely retaining his colorful vocabulary.
  69. Film. How I Live Now: The Piper of the film is notably more childish than the Piper of the book. Also, Isaac's personality is completely different; in the book, he's even quieter than Edmond and spends a lot of time watching over everyone, but in the film he's chatty and not at all dissimilar to most fourteen-year-old boys.
  70. Characters.Superman Film Series: A minor one but the Silver Age Superman saw himself as Kal-El while both Superman and Clark Kent were ways of helping people, but even then he seemed to prefer being Superman. Superman III however implies that like modern interpretations the Clark Kent identity is who he identifies as since that represented his good self while Superman was his evil self.
  71. Fanfic.Sudden Contact: The crew of the Normandy are racist towards both aliens, and the humans inhabiting the Koprulu sector ("colonials") in this fanfic, due to growing up under the UPL/UED's fascist ideology.
  72. Manga.Classi 9: The worst offender is Beethoven, who went from being a grumpy old man to a soft and occasionally cheerful teenager. Tchaikovsky has also changed a lot, becoming a charming if not sometimes slightly disturbing, bisexual young man.
  73. Trivia.Pacific World War II Us Navy Shipgirls: Arizona and Iowa make appearances in Kant-O-Celle Quest. Adaptation Personality Change: Arizona is hit hard with this, turning her from a cheerful Butt-Monkey with woobie tendencies to a Stoic Woobie who never even speaks.
  74. Characters.Disney Fairies: In the original Peter Pan movie and Gail Carson Levine's books, she was generally snarky, jealous, and possessive. In the Disney Fairies movies, those aspects of her character are toned down, and she's more of a wide-eyed idealist at the beginning.
  75. Characters.Your Turn To Die Floor Masters: A downplayed variant in the manga, but in addition to being a Giggling Villain, she's also Faux Affably Evil and The Tease to the survivors. She even goes as far as kissing Reko's collar, and holding Mishima's face against her chest.
  76. Characters.Stargirl 2020 Heroes: In the comics, he was a more traditional manly-man figure, and while a smart enough engineer to enhance and maintain S.T.R.I.P.E. he would be the first to admit he didn't know nearly enough about robotics to be doing this. Here, he's more of a Bumbling Dad and Butt-Monkey who's a Gadgeteer Genius but not very skilled physically.
  77. Characters.Negima Second Season: Asuna goes from being a regular Tsundere, having a job and more or less just trying to survive in the craziness around her in the manga and first anime series, to being a complete Cloudcuckoolander in the Negima!? anime.
  78. Characters.Legend Quest: In a sense. By the later Las Leyendas films, especially La Leyenda del Chupacabras, Leo grew into a more mature, no-nonsense and morose character. He's a little more jovial, goofier, socially-awkward and deadpan in Legend Quest. Still, most of his personality traits remain, if slightly tweaked. He's still selfless, forgiving, kind-hearted, intelligent, adventurous and still plays the straight man to his friends quirks.
  79. Manga.Neon Genesis Evangelion: Shinji is more assertive and outspoken here. For instance, after the Unit-03 incident he almost punches Gendo and has to be held back by Kaji. In the anime, Shinji simply looked at his father with quiet disdain. This also means that his relationship with Asuka is arguably betternote their conflicts come off more like mutual bickering/Vitriolic Best Buds instead of the bullying/mix of attraction and resentment in the anime while with Kaworu, it's arguably worse.note Shinji is put off by Kaworu's interest, though YMMV if this is ultimately worse than the co-dependency they shared in the anime
  80. WesternAnimation.A Pup Named Scooby Doo: In other series, it is either Velma or Fred who is skeptical about the existence of ghosts and monsters. Here, it is Daphne. "I keep telling you, there are no such things as ghosts!note She says this even when seeing an actual, real ghost in one episode.
  81. Anime.Kirby Right Back At Ya: King Dedede of the games is usually an Anti-Villain, committing petty acts of villainy at worst and often teaming up with Kirby. Here, Dedede is a more actively antagonistic and callous tyrant (if still ineffectual) and his redeeming moments are more few and in between. Meanwhile, Meta Knight, more a Hero Antagonist in the games, is Kirby's ally and mentor from the beginning of the anime.
  82. Characters.Gate: In the manga, she's just your average rookie reporter with some down on luck experience in her job. In the anime, she's an absoulute Nervous Wreck who is on the verge of tears most of the time.
  83. Characters.Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rangers: She's way snarkier than either Mei, Rin, or Tsuruhime.
  84. WebAnimation.Pokemon Lavender Jaydreamer: Adaptation Personality Change - Coral was a Heroic Mime in the original. Now, she's a full-fledged human being, with a backstory and everything! Shocker!
  85. Characters.Pokemon The Series Ash Ketchum: In Sun & Moon, Ash combines traits from both the male protagonist (Elio) and Lillie from the Sun/Moon games, despite the latter being an existing main character in the anime's cast. Like Elio, Ash moves from Kanto to Alola, is acknowledged by Tapu-Koko, and participates in the Island Challenge. Ash also becomes Alola League's first ever Champion. Due to Lillie's Adaptation Personality Change, Ash also received some of her game counterpart's elements. Like Lillie from the games, Ash lives in Professor Kukui's house (while also using its loft) and travels with the wild Pokémon Nebby, even carrying it in his bag.
  86. Characters. An Eagle Among Lions: Downplayed. In canon, by all accounts his loyalty to the Kingdom outstrips his loyalty to the Church, although the two never come into direct conflict. In this story, he sides with the Church over the Kingdom when Dimitri declares open war.
  87. Characters.Yamada Kun And The Seven Witches The Witches: She is more serious and modest in the live-action drama, making it less believable that she would be comfortable with kissing anyone for a greeting. Given that she still has some cheerful moments, it may be that her actress chooses to portray her that way rather than she is purposely written that way.
  88. Fridge.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012: Karai’s personality is very different from her previous incarnations; All the previous Karais were very stoic and serious, while this Karai is a mischievous Deadpan Snarker; this makes sense when you consider that she isn’t really Karai, she’s actually Hamato Miwa, a different character.
  89. Characters.MUGEN: He is swearing in the intro and ending of his story mode.
  90. AdaptationalBadass.Animated Films: Princess Peach is the most obvious example, getting Xenafication from Damsel in Distress to Action Girl. She's introduced easily clearing an obstacle course that Mario himself struggles with, and in the Final Battle, she has a Damsel out of Distress segment during her forced wedding with Bowser where she uses an Ice Flower to freeze Bowser and take a horde of enemies by herself before being knocked out by a explosion. While many games have Peach be able to keep up with the Mario brothers, she's still often in need of rescuing and rarely the one who actually leads the charge. Additionally, Peach's soft-spoken, kindhearted, feminine Girly Girl (with a tomboy streak) and a bit airheaded personality from the games is significantly altered, with her being given Daisy's Tomboy Princess traits instead.
  91. VideoGame. The Legend Of Zelda Parallel Worlds: The Triforce still talks to Link in this game, but its abilities are different. This Triforce doesn't grant wishes, or "destroy armies" as it chooses to word it. Rather, the Triforce is only able to facilitate travel between the eponymous Parallel Worlds via the Triforce Shrine behind Hyrule Castle, and within Parallel Tower itself.
  92. Series.American Born Chinese 2023: Suzy is an activist type and is the leader of various school clubs who will stand up on lunch tables to deliver impassioned speeches that embarrass Jin greatly, whereas in the comic she was a very subdued girl.
  93. Characters. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Heroines: In the non-novelization books, even as far as the Perdita Finn books, she is by far more assertive and straightforward with what she thinks. Fluttershy tells Sunset that her carelessness with the animals at the refuge really made Fluttershy mad at Sunset. Fluttershy also has no problem with headbanging at a death metal concert. The shyness usually affects her in specific situations, like while training to play against an all-male blitzball team, but she overcomes her panic/shyness, and gets fit in the process without magic.
  94. ComicBook.Ashes Ashes: Compared to the original novel, Blanche is not only shown to be more of a pronounced Action Survivor but is ultimately far less of a docile wife to Francois. She even goes so far as to renounce the Patriarch's vision in his funeral.
  95. Fanfic.Fate Broken Sword: Due to having Shirou as her sole social support system, Taylor is noticeably happier and outgoing (at least when not in school) and more in line to how she was described pre-canon.
  96. Characters.RWBY Chibi: While he's the Straight Man to a lot of the Team JNPR's antics in canon and largely The Stoic, he's a lot more emotive and Not So Above It All here.
  97. Fanfic. An Empty Revenge: Paragus is less of an outcast in the fic, and his relationship with Broly is more paternal than it was in the movie, where Paragus was treated as a Hate Sink character. In the movie, Lemo is an old non-combatant member of the Freeza force. In the fic, he is an old sergeant that fought with the Saiyans in his youth and came back from retirement to help rebuild the empire. Freeza, while still Faux Affably Evil, acts more cordial and friendly with Paragus than in the movie, even treating him like an old friend, unlike the somewhat friendly but distant relationship in the movie.
  98. Characters.Mega Man Classic Robot Masters Post NES: The Ariga manga averts Tornado Man's otherwise Flat Character status by portraying him as the vengeful, serious, de facto leader of the second batch of Light Numbers that were rebelling, wanting to end the Fourth Law from scrapping more of their brethren and believing that humans were selfish for creating them only to throw them away like trash.
  99. Characters.Grandmaster Of Demonic Cultivation Mo Dao Zu Shi Lan Wangji: His core personality remains the same in the donghua. However, he's a bit less repressed in showing his emotions. While he's frostier in his first few interactions with Wei Wuxian, once he sees Wei Wuxian as more than just an annoying classmate, he shows a greater deal of emotions than he did in the novel. He also acts less antagonistic towards Jiang Cheng, but a few key scenes show that he still keeps his disdain for the other man and is simply subtler about how he expresses it. Due to the donghua and the live-action series being Tamer and Chaster than the novel, some of Lan Wangji's Crazy Jealous Guy tendencies are either downplayed or nonexistent in both adaptations.
  100. WebVideo. How To Fix Kingdom Hearts: Kairi is goofier and more tomboy-ish than in the games.
