Let's face it: there are a lot of Fanservice tropes that tie in with water. From bodacious beach babes to hunky lifeguards, mouth watering mermaids, seductive sirens, a well endowed woman or six-pack-packing man whose shirt got a little TOO wet in the rain, a hot time in a hot tub, there is a lot of variety in the sensual and romantic tropes you can do with water, so this is an index keeping track of them all.


Tropes

  • Barely-There Swimwear: A swimsuit that shows a lot and covers little.
  • Bathing Beauty: An attractive (usually female) character who enjoys taking baths and showers.
  • Beach Episode: A detour from the main plot where the characters relax on a beach, which can be played for fanservice reasons.
  • Beach Kiss: Two people are kissing on the shore just as a wave washes over them.
  • Candle Lit Bath: A character takes a bath surrounded by candles, not uncommon for "mood lighting".
  • Censor Steam: Steam from heated water can be used to hide nudity in a titillating way.
  • Censor Suds: Suds or bubbles can be used to conceal nudity in a titillating way.
  • Gone Swimming, Clothes Stolen: A character who strips before swimming gets their clothes taken away while they're gone.
  • Hello, Sailor!: Sailors are iconic symbols for gay men.
  • Hot Springs Episode: A detour from the main plot where characters relax at a hot spring, which can be for fanservice reasons.
  • Interrupted Bath: A bathing character is interrupted by an unwanted surprise, possibly leading to a Naked Freak-Out.
  • Mermaid Arc Emergence: When played for fanservice, this is a kind of Sexy Surfacing Shot where a character emerges from the water in a large splash, bending their spine back, with their eyes shut and mouth hanging open gasping for breath.
  • Modesty Towel: A character who finished swimming or bathing wearing a towel and nothing else.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: It is common for mermaid characters to be played for fanservice.
  • Outdoor Bath Peeping: A character stumbles upon an attractive person bathing in an outdoor body of water.
  • Perpetually Shiny Bodies: A character's body shines light off of it, possibly due to being covered in water or sweat and can be played for fanservice.
  • Pool Scene: People hanging out a swimming pool, which can be played for fanservice.
  • Public Bath House Scene: People hanging out a public bathhouse, which can be played for fanserivce.
  • Romantic Rain: Lovers are caught in rainfall and share a romantic moment. May lead to Sexy Soaked Shirt and/or Wet Sari Scene.
  • Rule of Pool: If fully clothed people are anywhere near a swimming pool, at least one of them will end up in it.
  • Seashell Bra: A simple, yet exotic looking bra made from seashells, which can easily be played for fanservice.
  • Sexy Soaked Shirt: A shirt is rendered soaking wet, which causes it to cling to its wearer's skin and become see-through to some degree.
  • Sexy Surfacing Shot: A character emerging from a body of water in a way played for fanservice.
  • Shower of Love: Characters having romantic/sexual relations in a shower.
  • Shower Scene: A character taking a shower, can be played for fanservice.
  • Sirens Are Mermaids: It is common to portray sirens as seductive mermaids and play them for fanservice.
  • Skinny Dipping: A character swims while nude. Can easily be played for fanservice.
  • Slippery Swimsuit: A character loses their swimsuit, which can be played for fanservice.
  • Symbolic Serene Submersion: Can be played for fanservice if the character has garments clinging to them aesthetically.
  • Two-Person Pool Party: Characters having intimate moments in a pool or hot tub.
  • Underwater Kiss: Characters kiss while submerged underwater.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: A character is almost always wearing a swimsuit, which can easily be played for fanservice.
  • Waterfall Shower: A character using a waterfall as a makeshift shower. Is often played for fanservice and can easily crossover with Skinny Dipping and Outdoor Bath Peeping.
  • Wet Sari Scene: A woman's sari gets wet, causing it to cling to her body and accentuate her figure.
  • Wet T-Shirt Contest: A competition for attractive women that invokes Sexy Soaked Shirts, where the goal is to determine who looks best in a waterlogged t-shirt.
