Go To

Amelia Smith: 9th Grade Kunoichi is a fanfic written by Angelxoxo8.

This story is essentially a retelling of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, but with Angelxoxo8's OC for this fic, Amelia "Amy" Smith. At first, she might seem like just a Distaff Counterpart to Randy, but as the story goes on, she proves that she's One of the Boys and a formidable adversary to boot. And her personality and storyline blends wonderfully with the rest of the cast.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Amy is the Kunoichi and partners with the Ninja, so it's expected.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Amy and Randy call each other Ames and Ran respectively.
    • Likewise, Ninja and Kunoichi like to call each other Ninj and Kuno.
  • Almost Kiss: Randy and Amy go through this at the end of chapter 25.
  • Battle Couple: Played With as Amy/Kunoichi and Randy/Ninja reciprocate each other's feelings, but are not an item until the end of season one.
  • Birthday Episode: Chapter 92 is about Amy's birthday...with Randy having forgotten about it.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: A robot that was thought to be defeated reactivates on Amy's birthday.
  • Brainy Brunette: Amy's stated to have high grades in Norrisville High. As Kunoichi, she helps her partner form the plans to stop the villain for most of the story.
  • Bruce Wayne Held Hostage: Several chapters have Amy/Kunoichi imprisoned by several villains.
  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Amy is quite the singer. In chapter 13, Bucky reveals to Randy that she was known as the legendary "Ultimate Singer" before she quit. When he asks her why, she explains that it was because people only hung out with her for her fame and not her. After assuring her that he's not like that at all, Randy convinces her to join his and Howard's band 30 Seconds To Math as lead singer. In chapter 25, she and Randy sing a duet.
  • Combat Hand Fan: Amy wields a tessen fan as Kunoichi.
  • Driven by Envy: Randy is jealous of Jacques in chapter 26 for having romantic interest in Amy, hence another reason he asks Jacques for a flipping competition. Although Amy is definitely not amused...
  • Evil Makeover: Whenever someone is emotionally hurt or distressed, they're stanked into monsters. This happens to Amy in the series finale.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Chapter 85 reveals that Amy, Howard, and Randy had actually met at daycare, but it's left ambiguous as to whether or not it actually happened, due to Amy not recalling it and Randy thinking about it. But he gets cut off before the viewer gets a straight answer.
  • Friendly Fandoms: The fanfic gets compared to Miraculous Ladybug several times due to the similar dynamics. Marinette even had a cameo in chapter 14, greeting Amy in the library.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: In Chapter 19, Randy tickles Amy in order to get her to tell him her secrets.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Amy's hairstyle in season 2.
  • The Glasses Come Off: Amelia wears glasses as part of her civilian attire, but she takes them off when in her Kunoichi suit.
  • Guilt by Association Gag: A lot of times whenever Randy and Howard get in trouble for their antics, Amy get's roped into their punishments even though she usually has nothing to do with it.
  • I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: One of the reasons why Amy and Randy didn't want to reveal their identities to each other, and why they have a late Relationship Upgrade. In Amy's case, she didn't want to damage their strong friendship. However with Randy, he still desired to know Kunoichi's civilian identity.
  • Improbable Hairstyle: Kunoichi has 70-feet long hair, but justified as it comes with being the Kunoichi in her case.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Amy and Howard may not always get along, due to him being a mostly selfish Never My Fault shoob, but there are occasions where Howard will do nice things for Amy. One example is at the end of chapter 39 where he got her the position of assistant manager at the Mc Fist-O-Plex which she had been working hard for.
  • Last-Name Basis: Like with Randy in canon, Howard mostly calls Amy by her last name.
  • Late for School: Downplayed, as Amy occasionally shows up late for school.
  • Legacy Character: Downplayed as before Amy became the Kunoichi, there hadn't been a Kunoichi in existence for over 20 years.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Played With as from chapter 53, Amy starts wearing her hair in pigtails for the rest of the story. Also Played With as the Kunoichi, as she occasionally lets it down to assist her or others.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Downplayed as Amy hates Ninja and Randy hates Kunoichi, but it only lasts for one chapter.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Respectively, Amy, Howard, and Randy. Though Played With in chapter 3, where Amy is deemed the inbetween judge for the talent show.
  • New Friend Envy: Howard is initially jealous of Amy, thinking she's trying to replace him as Randy's best friend. He eventually warms up to her, though.
  • New Transfer Student: Amy's Establishing Character Moment is her becoming Randy's classmate after moving from Los Angeles.
  • Oblivious to Love: At first, Amy doesn't seem to notice that both Randy and Julian have a crush on her. She isn't aware of it until later.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Amelia generally prefers to be called "Amy" for short.
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: Ninja and Kunoichi have black/red and white/pink suits, respectively.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Amy incorporates pink in both of her main outfits, her Kunoichi suit, and later has pink streaks in her hair permanently. However, interestingly, she doesn't have pink in her hair as the Kunoichi in season 2.
  • Poison and Cure Gambit: This happens in chapter 32, where Mac Antfee poisons Kunoichi and blackmails Ninja to choose to save her or Howard.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: The Kunoichi mask turns Amy's hair white and causes it to grow to floor-length when she wears it. When she's not the Kunoichi, it returns to its natural brown color.
  • Prim and Proper Bun: Amy's season 1 look.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Howard ruins Amy and Randy's date at the end of chapter 54 for ruining soupsicles for him, but it's downplayed since he only does it once and then never again.
  • Related in the Adaptation: S. Ward Smith is Amy's grandfather in the fanfic.
  • The Rival: Theresa and Amy are this for a while.
  • Romantic Rain: Happens in both chapters 45 and 84.
  • Secret-Keeper: Heidi finds out that Amy and Randy are the Ninjas in chapter 75.
  • Ship Tease: Amy and Randy have a lot of this throughout season one.
  • Shipper on Deck: Howard could be considered this towards Amy and Randy, though sometimes he's exasperated just because Amy doesn't know Randy's feelings for most of season one.
  • Sick Episode: Amy is sick in chapter 73, coming to Randy's house with the flu.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Like the show, Mac Antfee appears in only two chapters. But then it's revealed that he's why Kunoichis were banned for two decades.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Original Character Kat is friends with the group, but Amy is the only main girl that hangs out with both Howard and Randy.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Downplayed; Amy can be pretty social at times, but there are instances where she gets flustered from Howard's teasing about her feelings about Randy or sometimes nervous around Julian. Whenever those happen, she tends to shut down mentally until she's snapped out of it.
  • The Reveal: Happens in chapter 19, where Franz reveals to both Amy and Randy to their faces that they are each other's Ninja partner.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Ninja and Kunoichi really don't like working together (at first). Though they get better later on, the two still occasionally show shades of this.
  • Two Scenes, One Dialogue: When Randy and Amy are pulled into their respective Nomicons' worlds and discover that they must "combine their hearts as one to prevail". They're both less than thrilled...
    Amy: He's inconsiderate...
Randy: Doesn't know when to quit...
    Amy: Wants all the glory...
    Randy: She's cramping my style...
    Amy: He has no consideration...
    Both: ...And I can't work with him/her!
  • Unrequited Love Lasts Forever: Seems to be the case with Julian, who has been in love with Amy since preschool.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Amy works for McFist at the local theater, but she doesn't like the fact that she's working for her enemy.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Amy will sometimes call out Randy when he acts too cocky, abuses his powers, or makes selfish decisions. She especially gives this to Howard when he's being more of a jerk than usual, especially when it affects Randy.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Amy's phobia in chapter 33 are rats and mice.
  • Will They or Won't They??: The fanfic continually teases Amy and Randy's relationship throughout the entirety of season one. They eventually do get together.
