January

The Lone Wandererer

    Laharu
  • Big Eater: His most noticeable trait. Granted, he debuts in the January storyline, where a famine occurs, but he retains this trait even outside of the event.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He initially comes off as a goofy gluttonous hyena, but when battling the hyena clans, he has no problem throwing down with the other, larger spotted hyenas so the player character can get to the Hyena Mother, and even pins down the Mother by himself when the hyenas gang up on the player character.
    The Hyena Mother

April

Mysterious Wenet

    Wenet
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Literal example. She's obsessed with fluffballs, which manifests in bizarre ways such as building and eating a snuh-rabbit, but she is shown to be crafty and dedicated to her mission.
  • Properly Paranoid: Distrusts the fluffballs and suspects them of ulterior motives. Sure enough, upon investigation, the player will learn that the fluffballs are planning to overpopulate the land and keep the lions distracted until it is too late.

May

Brotherhood of Zeal

    V'Kai
  • Precocious Crush: It's heavily implied that V'Kai gets a crush on the player's lion after they defeat him in a fight, and if you opt to stay and hang out with him instead of his brother he'll ask if you're interested in male lions as well as lionesses. While you can playfully flirt back, its made clear that you're just joking and don't have any actual interest in him.
  • Nonstandard Character Design: Is one of the few named characters to have a mutation, specifically a piebald mutation.
  • Sibling Rivalry: In Brotherhood of Zeal, Vash and his little brother V'Kai are always arguing (or on occasion, physically fighting)- Vash sees his brother as lazy and embarrassingly immature, while V'Kai resents how Vash pushes him to train and instead prefers to party with his friends. Your goal is to help them get along better, and by the end of the event they do become closer thanks to your help.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: V'Kai is fun-loving and jovial, Vash is serious and rough around the edges.
  • Youth Is Wasted on the Dumb: Vash certainly thinks so, as he bemoans V'Kai's enthusiasm for partying and hanging out with friends instead of training to fight
    Vashkartzen
  • Aloof Big Brother: Spends most of the storyline as this towards V'Kai, as he's somewhat more reserved and serious, which clashes with V'Kai's own personality.
  • Big Brother Bully: Frequently berates V'Kai for his constant partying and even beats him up at one point in the storyline.
    Pei'kat
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Has this dynamic with a male player king; she's too small to even enter a tournament and this is repeatedly emphasized, while the player lion has no such issue, and some of their interactions rely on the king being much bigger than her.
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: Inverted with Rielhken; she has a Haunted base, which is a substantially darker color than her Sahara-based rival.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Is primarily dark purplish-gray and mulberry to Rielhken's brown and gold color scheme.
    Rielhken
  • Butt-Monkey: Quite a few of his explore encounters are this. He loses in gambling, gets tipsy on fermented marula, and is found sulking after failing to qualify for a tournament.
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: Inverted with Pei'Kat; he has a substantially lighter pelt than his rival.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Has a brown and gold Sahara base while his fellow rival Pei'Kat has a mostly dark purplish Haunted base.
    Ghaurvan

June

Rise of the Serpent

    Anubis
  • Amicable Exes: Anubis and Bast were briefly married once in the distant past, though it didn't work out. They're both still fond of the other and express relief that both of their temples survived into the present day, hoping that they can visit once everything with the Serpent has calmed down.
  • Animal Motifs: Jackals, and canines more broadly. He uses Wepawet's wolf vessel but it morphs into a giant black jackal, one of his daily quests is to defeat 10 canines, and his merged form with the player lion is the most canine of the gods.
  • Color Motifs: Black. His exclusive decors are black, the wolf vessel he borrows morphs into dark jackal features with his presence, his applicators are usually darker than the other gods' applicators, his merged form is mostly black and dark brown, etc.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Is a dark-colored god of the dead, yet is a heroic and mild-mannered god willing to help the player lion save the world from Apophis.
  • Jock Dad, Nerd Son: His dad is a War God. He himself is a god of the dead with no combat experience before the event.
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: The Dark Male to his ex Bast's Pale Female, as he is associated with darkness and shadows, and she with light and gold.
  • Not So Above It All: Is usually dour and serious, but a December encounter has him stealing food from Laharu and teasing him with it.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Anubis was always considered a disappointment to his father Seth due to his lack of physical prowess and creepy interest in dead things. If you choose to wake him up in Rise of the Serpent, he's surprised that you picked him to fight against the Serpent instead of his father, and says that he half-expects Seth to revive himself and attack out of sheer rage.
    Bast
  • Amicable Exes: Anubis and Bast were briefly married once in the distant past, though it didn't work out. They're both still fond of the other and express relief that both of their temples survived into the present day, hoping that they can visit once everything with the Serpent has calmed down.
  • Animal Motifs: Cats, and felines more broadly. Her vessel is basically a lion with cat features, one of her daily quests is to defeat 10 large felines, and her merged form is the most feline of the gods'.
  • Brother–Sister Team: If the player opens the side shrine, she'll form one with Horus, whose mother Isis is said to be the mother of both gods.
  • Color Motifs: White, and to a lesser extent gold. Her exclusive colors are either white or yellow, her vessel is a huge white feline with golden eyes, and her applicators are the palest of the gods'.
  • Furry Reminder: Rare non-human example. Though Bast is an interdimensional being and her vessel is more lion than cat, she mostly shows cat-like instincts such as playing with her prey and wiggling her butt before pouncing.
  • Light Is Good: To contrast Anubis, Bast is primarily associated with light, but she's just as heroic as the other gods.
  • Proud Beauty: Downplayed; it's not a major part of her characterization, but some of her quotes indicate this. She comments on how she sometimes appears as a beautiful woman, and wonders if she should put on her makeup because she feels naked without it.
    Seth
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Seth is rather cocky and eager to tussle with the player character. He also prefers to exercise in his spare time.
  • Color Motifs: Red. His exclusive decors are red, his vessel is a red humanoid creature, his merged form is dark reddish in color, and his applicators all have hints of red.
  • Jock Dad, Nerd Son: The Egyptian War God is noted to consider Anubis's lack of martial ability and interest in dead things as disappointing.
  • Red Is Heroic: Heavily associated with the color, and is one of the gods willing to help the player save the world.
  • Red Is Violent: It's fitting that an aggressive War God would have a red Color Motif.
    Apophis
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Like in the mythos, his goal is to devour the sun to destroy all life.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Is primarily black-gray with red & orange highlights evocative of magma, fitting for a omnicidal chthonic being.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Can't get much more than this, given that he is a gigantic cobra Omnicidal Maniac who wants to devour the sun.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: The god(s) explicitly tell Apophis as such in the final fight, admonishing him for attempting to cheat fate by escaping before he was destined to do so for a better shot at destroying the world.
    Thoth
  • Animal Motifs: The ibis, of course. His vessel and idol both resemble the bird.
    Horus
  • Animal Motifs: The falcon, given his role as a god of the sky, sun, and moon. His vessel and idol both resemble the bird.
    Khnum
  • Animal Motifs: The ram; his vessel and idol both resemble the animal.

Meteor Showers

Civil War

    Apedemak
  • Abusive Parents: Spends the whole storyling treating Menhit like a possession at best, and breeding stock at worst. He also doesn't give a damn about Menhit's grief when she learns about him murdering Tefnut.
  • Archnemesis Dad: To Menhit as the main antagonist of the July storyline.
  • Dark Is Evil: Both him and his associated decors/apps are darker than those of the other two leads, he is associated with the night sky, and he is by far the most evil of the July characters, being an abusive dictator who seeks to manipulate and murder his way into godhood.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The Divine ending ends with him attaining godhood, imprisoning Menhit, & driving away Apollyon.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after a lion-headed Nubian-Egyptian War God, fitting for a semi-divine Godhood Seeker who uses violence & authority for his goals.
  • Villainous Incest: In an earlier version of the storyline, Apedemak attempts to convince his daughter to mate with him in order to produce perfect children, much to her disgust and horror. While he had been shown to be angry at her relationship with Apollyon earlier and had claimed to use magic, until then it was left ambiguous if he was just an over-protective father with weird beliefs or if he was genuinely a villain.
    Apollyon
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Is the Bad Boy in question. He's noted to be shady and deceptive, and even when he means well his methods are rather destructive. Despite this, Menhit finds him attractive and seems to be drawn to him because of his rugged allure.
  • Fire Is Masculine: Is the only July character with fire powers, and he is the most traditionally masculine in personality, with a serious but cocky demeanor and a inclination towards physical action and violence compared to Menhit & Tefnut.
  • Lantern Jaw of Justice: Is noted for his massive chin, and is at the very least more heroic than the more normally-proportioned Apedemak.
  • Man on Fire: If you choose Apollyon's endings, you have the option to help him burn Apedemak alive to defeat him. Doing so allows Apollyon to obtain godhood instead of Apedemak.
  • Meaningful Name: Apollyon is the name of the angel of destruction in the Bible, fitting the lion's own destructive tendencies.
  • Playing with Fire: He's a Firelord who can manipulate fire as he desires.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He's big enough to be counted as a large-type enemy when you battle him, is dusky brown in color, & is handsome in a larger-than-life way, at least in Menhit's eyes.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Wants to overthrow Apedemak for his tyranny but some of his methods are questionable, including razing a savanna and risking the player lion's life by burning them alive.
    Menhit
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Finds Apollyon's rugged, hotheaded masculinity attractive. It doesn't hurt that Apedemak hates him anyway.
  • Light Is Good: Both her and her associated decors/apps are lighter than those of the other July leads, and she's the most morally upright of the three. Tellingly, her ending is the only one where her and Apollyon's plan doesn't involve killing the player lion.
  • Ironic Name: Some versions of Egyptian mythology have her be the mother of the god Apedemak, the inverse of the lions named after them.
  • Meaningful Name: Shares her name with a lion-headed Nubian-Egyptian WarGod, indicating her semi-divine nature and in her ending, her ascension to godhood.
  • Nice Girl: Has the most pleasant temperament of the three July leads.
  • Rebellious Princess: Openly opposes her father's tyranny and works with Apollyon to stop him before his actions ruin the celestial kingdom.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Has bright Sunglow eyes and is a celestial lion who can converse with spirits and can even obtain godhood in the Heavenly ending.
    Tefnut
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Is noted to have a Sunset base and a sunset motif more generally. As sunset gives way to night, so too is Tefnut treated by the night-associated Apedemak as subordinate to him. She even shows up before him, and in their respective times of day.
    • On a darker note, sunset is also associated with death for similar reasons, and guess who's the only character guaranteed to die in the storyline?
    • She's also noted to have Dawn eyes, while Menhit has Sunglow eyes. In-game, Dawn-eyed lions have a 1% chance of passing Sunglow eyes instead.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Strongly implied; the player notes some of Tefnut's behavior around Apedemak as suggestive of trying to get him to notice and love her. Unfortunately, this does not happen.
  • Killed Off for Real: Is murdered by Apedemak in a fit of rage.
  • Kick the Dog: Ends up on the receiving end of this with her murder. There was no reason for Apedemak to murder her other than sheer rage, but that doesn't stop him from killing her to showcase his ruthlessness.
  • Meaningful Name: Gets her name from a lion-headed Egyptian goddess of moisture, air, & rain, fitting her semi-divine nature.
  • Nice Girl: Shares her daughter's mellow temperament, though she's less fiery than Menhit.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted; she shares her name with Sangoma Tefnut from the November event, and given the existence of Egyptian gods, likely the actual goddess Tefnut as well.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: Is noted to have striking dawn-colored eyes at the beginning of the storyline.

Journery to Vredefort Crater

    The Demiurge

September

The Harbringer

    The Harbringer
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The Harbinger is an enormous, terrifying Mix And Match Creature with multiple horns, sharp claws, and jet-black fur that clawed itself up out of the ground to announce the approaching end of the world. Despite that, it not only bears no ill-will towards Earth but actively tries to help you figure out what’s going on and how to stop it.

October

Heaven and Hell

    Nirah
  • Our Manticores Are Spinier: Manticores in Lioden are intelligent creatures with the bodies of lions, six horns, bat-like wings, and a scorpion tail. One of them, Nirah, is encountered during the October storyline. He’s not at all malicious, and when he’s battled while exploring he’s not much tougher than the lions who can be fought. Befriending him instead of siding with the armies of Heaven or Hell is the neutral option during the October storyline.
  • Straight Gay: Nirah is implied to be gay. He flirts a lot with your king, and only blushes if his decor is equipped on an adult or adolescent male lion. He doesn’t show any stereotypical traits, and can also be tussled with in explore encounters where he’s no easier than any other lion.
    Aiatar
  • Heavenly Blue: Invoked with his pelt, which has a blue gradient on his back & mane, to further accentuate his angelic status.
  • Our Angels Are Different: He's a Nepheline, a hybrid between a pure angel and a lion.
    The unnamed demon
  • No Name Given: Invoked; demons don't give their names to others unless they've earned the demon's respect
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Is primarily red with black horns & darker red accents, and is a demon out to enslave mortals to fight the armies of hell.

November

Whispering Ancestors

    Shaman Aker
    Sorcerer Sphinx
    Sangoma Tefnut
    Shaman Erlath
  • Jerkass: Pretty much all of his appearances depict him as rude and surly.
    Sorcerer Ahihia
