General Tropes
- Animal Motifs: Well... they ARE animals.
- Shirogane is an Arctic Wolf
- Yukisada is a Snowy Owl.
- Rocma is a Polar Bear.
- Mafuyu is a Harp Seal.
- Peraco is a Emperor Penguin.
- Rock is a Rockhopper Penguin.
- Idate and Nagi are Killer Whales.
- The Cameo: Various characters appear in Mogeko Castle on a TV screen.
- Idate appears in Wadanohara as an unnamed strolling orca. Rock also appears in a bonus room episode in the same game.
- Little Bit Beastly: They’re mostly drawn as humanoid creatures with animal attributes like ears and tails. Rock is the one exception to this.
- Polar Bears and Penguins: Peraco and Rock should be on the other side of the Earth from the characters.
Shirogane
A wimpy wolf, and the protagonist. Also, a cowardly, stupid crybaby.
- Butt-Monkey: At best, the source material is joyfully calling him out on being a coward and a crybaby. At worst, he's watching his friends get eaten alive or getting used as a living punching bag by Idate... The poor pup rarely gets any semblance of a break.
- Cowardly Lion: Or a Cowardly Wolf in this case, though he's able to overcome his fears to save Rocma in one comic strip.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Everyone save for Yukisada is quick to call Shirogane a useless idiot, but in one comic, he manages to land a spear to Idate's head in order to save Rocma, and in another piece of art, Idate is seen riddled with Shirogane's harpoons. Even if he is a scaredy-cat, he's at least a capable one.
- Harpoon Gun: Shirogane's weapon of choice.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Yukisada.
- Interspecies Friendship: With Yukisada.
- Meaningful Name: Shirogane (シロガネ) means "Silvery-white".
- Security Blanket: His cape/scarf serves as one whenever he's upset about being bullied.
- Too Many Belts: He has three, and two are crossed over each other.
Yukisada
An owl who really likes sweets. Shirogane’s best friend. A naively good-natured young man.
- A Friend in Need: He lets Shirogane stay at his house, and even tries defending the poor wolf when the others start talking smack.
- Ahoge: Has one pointing off to the side.
- Break the Cutie: Gets grievously injured by Idate in one picture (See here
, warning for blood). - Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Shirogane. Lets him stay at his house, is the only character (besides Mafuyu, possibly) who isn't cruel or teasing toward Shirogane, always sticks up for him, and seems to trek around the island to find him whenever Shirogane runs off to wallow.
- Interspecies Friendship: With Shirogane.
- Meaningful Name: Yukisada (雪定) means "constant snow".
- Nice Guy: So far the most genuinely nice character on Iceburg Island.
- Sweet Tooth: Very fond of sweets.
Rocma
A scary polar bear. Don’t make her angry.
- Braids of Action: And how!
- Does Not Like Men: Rocma isn't very fond of men. She finds even being helped by one to be insulting to her.
- Ear Notch: On her right ear, though her hat covers it.
- Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Rocma is shown to be much shorter than Idate. So much so that she needs to stand on a block of ice to reach his height.
- Ice Queen: She’s cold and frightening to everyone… Except Mafuyu.
- Interspecies Adoption: Appears to have adopted Mafuyu.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's a hard-ass who frequently tells her male acquaintances to kill themselves, and goes out of her way to remind them what idiots they are, and is all-around a scary person. But she also goes out of her way to keep her friends safe from Idate, and seems to have adopted Mafuyu. Just look at their house. Despite her icy exterior, Rocma clearly loves Mafuyu, and cares about all of her friends too.
- Mama Bear: Rocma takes care of Mafuyu and is fiercely protective of her. She's pretty much a literal definition of this trope, considering she's an actual bear.
- Meaningful Name: Rocma (ロクマ or Rokuma) seems to have come from the Japanese word for polar bear (シロクマ or Shirokuma).
- Pretty in Mink: Her clothes are trimmed with fur and she wears a fluffy scarf and hat.
- Tsundere: Has shades of this.
Mafuyu
A baby seal. Tender.
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: And oval-shaped too.
- Children Are Innocent: Doesn't understand anything that's going on with Shirogane in Ice Watching Part 3, and is too oblivious to even be angry like Peraco's little siblings.
- Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her and Rocma's main room is filled with cute stuffed animals, as well as other pastel colored toys.
- Meaningful Name: Mafuyu (マフユ) means "midwinter".
- Ridiculously Cute Critter: Being a harp seal pup and all.
- Sailor Fuku: Appears to be wearing one.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Fish, judging by all the art featuring her eating it. Also crosses into Stock Animal Diet.
Peraco
A happy-go-lucky penguin. Very lucky.
- Animal-Eared Headband: Her penguin hat.
- Bridal Carry: Shirogane lifts Peraco to safety this way.
- Born Lucky: Peraco is described as being very lucky.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Seems to love "thinking about worthless junk." such as the difference between an orca, a forka, and a storka.
Rock
A short-tempered penguin. Likes to fish. On bad terms with orcas.
- The Alcoholic: Is described as one.
- BFG: Is seen holding a shotgun sometimes, which is normal-sized to a human, but big when a penguin is holding it.
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: Taken to its logical extreme when he appears in his human form.
- Interspecies Friendship: With Idate.
- Odd Friendship: Especially since Rock doesn’t even like orcas, which Idate, well, is.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Idate refers to Rock as his friend and Rock begrudgingly gets along with him (if 'getting along' means constantly beating up).
- Meaningful Name: He's a rockhopper penguin named Rock.
- Non-Standard Character Design: He looks more animalistic than the other characters, especially taking Peraco into account.
- Smoking Is Cool: Often seen smoking, sometimes with Idate.
Idate
A shady orca who stinks of tobacco. An evil guy who keeps assaulting the residents of Iceberg Isle. Has an unusual obsession with Rocma.
- Cultured Badass: Idate is this to some extent. He dresses in suit, acts levelheaded, uses mild language, fights fair (in the sense that if you attack him with a weapon, he'll disarm you so you can both fight barehanded), and eats people.... alive... yeah.
- Groin Attack: Gets kicked in the crotch during a fight with Rocma.
- Interspecies Friendship: With Rock.
- Odd Friendship: Especially considering Rock’s general dislike of orcas.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Idate calls Rock a friend, even if it means getting beat up by the latter.
- Jerkass: Almost every description of him in the minigame calls him an asshole or a douchebag. Considering he spends most of his free time harassing, abusing, or straight-up eating the other citizens of the island, it's not uncalled for.
- Mad Love: Idate has an "unusual obsession" with Rocma.
- Smoking Is Cool: Is confirmed to be a chain smoker. In Wadanohara, he complains about withdrawal.
- Too Much Information: Idate apparently talks to Rock about Rocma so much the penguin can't take it anymore.
Nagi
A blunt orca in words and thought.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Downplayed. Idate has neglected to visit her due to his focus on Rocma, leading to her dislike of Rocma. It should be noted that Nagi is Idate's niece.
- Meaningful Name: Nagi (なぎ) can mean "calm (at sea)", fitting for a girl who doesn't emote much.
- Sailor Fuku: A long-sleeved black one with white lining, a white ribbon-tie and lacey hem inside the skirt.
- The Stoic: Doesn’t emote that much.
