Main Characters
The main protagonist. Aspires to be an Imperial Knight.
- Disappeared Dad: His father was a treasure hunter that sent Wein letters regularly, until they suddenly stopped.
- Heel–Face Revolving Door: It's possible to side with Wolfgang or Maximilian, and then betray them, under certain circumstances.
- Memento MacGuffin: An ocarina, left behind by a childhood friend that disappeared over ten years ago. It's Arieta's.
- My Greatest Failure: Should Sereb join, then his will be failing to save Arieta's life.
Wein's partner in the Military Academy, enrolling both because of his late father's desires, and also Max's own desire to understand the motivations behind conflict. Becomes a politician to try and avoid war before it starts.
- Disney Villain Death: Falls off a tower after the final battle with him.
- Knight Templar: Hates war so much that he's willing to use the Power Mask to brainwash humanity into living peacefully. He believes the lives he'll save justify the loss of free will.
- Technical Pacifist: Detests war, but is willing to fight for his ideal of a peaceful world.
- Walking the Earth: In the regular ending path, after an optional scene that shows he survived his fall.
An orphan that is inspired by Wein to join the Military Academy, and later becomes his subordinate.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: If, after the above, Wein then realizes his mistakes and sides with his other friends against Maximilian.
- Goggles Do Nothing: Not only do his goggles do nothing, they also look rather out-of-place in a game with a predominantly medieval setting.
- Hot Guy, Ugly Wife: Should Wein side with Maximilian, then a Brainwashed Hans weds a gigantic woman for maximum productivity.
- The Nicknamer: Refers to Charlone as CC, then Charlo.
- Street Urchin: He's a youthful rascal with no parental guidance.
- Undying Loyalty: To Wein, following him even if he sides with Wolfgang or Maximilian.
A noble lady that aspires to become a knight. Also becomes Wein's subordinate.
- Amazon Brigade: Can join one if specific choices are made, though she will continue to assist Wein.
A brave girl from Agriss Village. Joins Wein after he is framed for breaking a dam, in order to find and punish the true perpetrator. She's actually a Shadow Knight working for Burnstein.
- Love Hurts: Worries that growing closer to Wein and the rest of the party will jeopardize her spy mission.
A mysterious girl that keeps crossing paths with Wein.
- Apocalypse Maiden: Due to Gevas taking control of her powers.
- Forgotten Childhood Friend: Befriended a young Wein and gave him her ocarina during a break in her cryostasis.
- Innocent Blue Eyes: When she's her regular self.
- Mutually Exclusive Party Members: If Arieta doesn't join Wein's party, then her fox guardian Sereb will join instead.
- Really 700 Years Old: A Growsian that's over 200, surviving due to ancient technology.
A member of the Silver Fox tribe. Long ago he was captured by humans for research, but was saved by Arieta. He became her loyal companion and protector.
- Mutually Exclusive Party Members: Will join Wein's party if Arieta doesn't.
A Rolandian soldier tasked with guarding the Space & Time Control Tower, but was forced to hide inside it during the mercenary uprising.
- Eye-Obscuring Hat: His helmet casts a shadow over them.
- Parental Abandonment: Grew up in the same orphanage as Ariost, until it became too crowded and he was abandoned by it.
- Mutually Exclusive Party Members: Can join Wein's party if Ernest Lyell doesn't.
- Street Urchin: As a child, he had to resort to farm work to survive after his village's orphanage abandoned him.
A mine worker that looks a lot like Maximilian.
- Mutually Exclusive Party Members: Only joins Wein if you side with Wolfgang, which causes other characters to leave.
Other Characters
The battle-hardened leader of the Grandzenschtraum Mercenaries.
- Ambition Is Evil: His goal of forming a democratic nation could be seen as noble, but his methods involve murder and framing innocents.
- Bastard Bastard: Is secretly the illegitimate son of William Cruz.
- Devil in Plain Sight: The game doesn't even try to hide this from the player, but it takes significantly longer for Wein and company to figure out that the gruff-voiced, scarred mercenary may be up to something.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: A sidequest reveals that he's Wein's half-brother.
- Posthumous Character: A sidequest reveals that he gave his life fighting Wolfgang, his illegitimate son.
A superior officer in the Burnstein military, and the man in charge of the Military Academy.
- The Dragon: Becomes Max's when he enacts his brainwashing plan, to atone for letting Max's father die.
- My Greatest Failure: Was wounded in a battle, and let Maximilian's father take charge. It led to Lord Schneider's death, which then made his wife mentally ill from the grief, and gave Maximilian his intense hatred of war.
- It's All About Me: When fought against should Wein side with Wolfgang, he clearly only cares about his own prosperity and survival, even calling one subordinate a "token guard that's gonna die anyway".
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Appears for only a brief moment in the beginning, unless Wein supports Wolfgang.
- The Mole: He's first presented assisting Maximilian. He's actually supporting Wolfgang.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Disappears midway through the game unless Wein supports Wolfgang.
- Retired Badass: Once held the rank of Sleeping Lion Knight, one rank lower than Imperial Knight.
Riviera's sister. She's also a Shadow Knight, and helps set up contracts for her sibling's spy missions.
- Love Is a Weakness: Does not mourn Kent, a man said to be her beloved, when he is killed during a mission.
- Meaningful Rename: At the end of her sidequest, her parents name her Lucia.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Is originally without a name, and only desires one from her Missing Mom; "Storm#3" is just something monsters called her.
- Superhuman Trafficking: She was subject to this, and allegedly, so was her Missing Mom.
