Come Dance with Me! (French title: Voulez-vous danser avec moi?) is a 1959 French-Italian mystery film directed by Michel Boisrond.

Virginie (Brigitte Bardot) and Hervé (Henri Vidal) fall in love at first sight and quickly get married, despite Virginie's father's dislike of Hervé. A few months later, their marriage is already on rocky ground, leading Hervé to almost cheat on Virginie with dance instructor Anita (Dawn Addams). While he doesn't go through with it, Anita later contacts him and blackmails him with incriminating pictures of them together. Virginie senses something is up and follows Hervé when he goes to Anita's studio to confront her, only to find Anita murdered with Hervé standing next to her. Hervé convinces her he didn't do it and Virginie endeavors to prove his innocence by joining the dance studio as an instructor and investigating the people there.

Serge Gainsbourg also appears as Léon, Anita's accomplice who photographs her with Hervé.

Tropes:

  • Amateur Sleuth: Virginie investigates Anita's murder to clear Hervé of suspicion, even though she has no credentials for a detective job (she's a wealthy industrialist's daughter and the most work she has done is as a dentist's assistant).
  • Blackmail: Anita intended to get a large sum of money out of Hervé in exchange for the pictures of the two of them together. Her murder puts an end to that particular problem.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Virginie's father Albert disapproves of Hervé, saying he looks like a butcher. Virginie says he's everything she could want and marries him regardless of her father's opinions.
  • Dramatic Thunder: There's a big thunder crash when Virginie learns Mr. Lalemand, who she'd supposedly contacted through the phone, has been dead for three years.
  • Gilligan Cut: Albert voices his hopes to Hervé that he will make Virginie happy; cut to Hervé yelling at Virginie and calling her a spoiled child in the middle of an argument, three months later.
  • Inheritance Murder: It's revealed that Anita's murder was orchestrated by Gérard (with his boyfriend Daniel committing the deed) because Anita stood to benefit from his father's inheritance.
  • Landline Eavesdropping: Virginie and Albert listen in on Anita's phone conversation with Hervé. Albert assumes this means Hervé is cheating on Virginie, but the conversation sounds ambiguous enough that Virginie decides to investigate further.
  • Plot-Inciting Infidelity: Hervé meets Anita one night after an argument with Virginie and considers cheating on his wife. They make out, but Hervé realizes he doesn't have it in him to go through with it. Still, Anita's lover and accomplice Léon managed to snap incriminating pictures of him, starting a chain of events.
