R.I.O. (group) (Music)
R.I.O. is a German dance music band started by Manuel Reuter and Yann Peifer (DJ Manian). They featured different singers as the face of their group, such as Tony T and U-Jean. But these people left over time and new singers replace them with every new song.

Their breakthrough hits include “De Janeiro”, “Shine On”, and "Turn This Club Around" which have charted across Europe.

They are in no way related to the Rio films.

Tropes in R.I.O include:

  • Adaptational Location Change: In the remake of “Shine On” by Madcon, they refer to “Cape Town” instead of “Trenchtown” as the song's location.
  • Aborted Arc: Twice.
    • At first, they were an instrumental group, and “De Janeiro”, their debut single was intended to be a novelty song to match their group name. This song, and the previous image was never brought up again after release.
    • During the Art Shift, Tony T. became the face of the group. They advertised him as a Jesus-like character with the musical likes of Bob Marley and Caribbean undertones. After all, Neal Dyer is half-Jamaican. In 2012, this theme was dropped in favor of U-Jean becoming the lead singer.
  • Album Title Drop: In the song named after the album, “Turn This Club Around”.
  • Cover Song:
  • Demoted to Extra: In the songs "Animal" and "Turn This Club Around", U-Jean is the lead singer, and Tony only raps or sings the bridge.
  • Friend to All Living Things: In the video for “Shine On”, Tony saves a turtle from being run over by kissing it, and the car phases through them.
  • Precision F-Strike: U-Jean says “We’re gonna make our bitches work it on the floor!” In the chorus for “Turn This Club Around”. There was never swearing in the music until this time.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: In the video for “Like I Love You”, Tony tries to give his girlfriend flowers in person. But when he appears at her door, his real girlfriend comes into the scene (he was cheating on her), and they both slam their doors in his face.
  • Shout-Out:
    • ”Miss Sunshine” references the film, Little Miss Sunshine. The music video is about Tony being the judge of a walkway pageant on a beach.
  • Sampling: There are many
    • ”One Heart” somewhat references “One Love” by Bob Marley and the Wailers.
    • ”Miss Sunshine” is set to the melody of “Sunshine” by Dance Nation.
    • ”Party Shaker” loosely samples “Ecuador” by ‘’Sash!’’, and "We Like to Party" by Vengaboys.
