    Kaede Akamatsu

Kaede Akamatsu

Ultimate Writing Prodigy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_pzm5cmdchs1xk372ko1_1280.png
"Belief without doubt is not a belief worth having."

The protagonist of this crazy story, Kaede is the Ultimate Prodigy of Writing. According to herself, she writes from an early age. She is considered one of the most inspiring and creative teenagers of the century. However, she is incredibly common and humble about herself and her talent. During chapter 1 she assumes the leadership position of the group, however much she loses some of her influence until the end of the chapter, remains trying hard to keep the group together.

  • Accidental Pervert: On their first Maki encounter, their attempts were a little invasive, so to speak. Needless to say, Maki's reaction was not positive.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Maki's body looks quite interesting to her, as well as that of some other participants. Despite this, the Fanfic author seems to Shipp her with Kibou. In addition, according to the author, she can end the Fanfic with any of the other characters.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Downplayed Trope. Like Kirumi, she was originally a fan of Shuichi, and based most of her 0fashion style on inspiration from him.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Kaede is kind and friendly as always.
  • Idiot Hair: As the Danganronpa tradition dictates.
  • Nice Girl: Kaede is one of the academy's most genuinely nice and good characters, regardless of the circumstances. She is one of the students genuinely shocked by the deaths of Kokichi and Miu. In addition, he does his best to make friends with even the most difficult students like Maki and Tsumugi.
    • Even though she knows about Miu and Tsumugi’s plan, she genuinely sympathizes with both.

     Kirumi Tojo

Kirumi Tojo

Ultimate Musician

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_690f0d883073207d6f17a9f39ef5bbcc_68631d2c_1280.png

A rude girl, a little violent and electric, but friendly, who firmly thinks that violence is the best answer. Her talents as a Musician make her a professional in several musical instruments even though bass is her specialty. She is the bassist of the group "Threads of Agony" and dress accordingly.

  • Adaptational Personality Change: It is definitely the biggest victim of this here. Canonical Kirumi was quite calm and polite being the Feminine Girl for some of her colleagues, here Kirumi it is a tomboy, dirty mouth, easily irritated.

  • Butch Lesbian: Kirumi is confirmed a lesbian by the author's Tumblr, and has some typical characteristics of this trope.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rude? Yes. Violent? Yes, but he cares a lot about his colleagues. Especially with Shuichi.

  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The Male Girl, for the feminine boy of Shuichi.

  • Platonic Life-Partners: She and Shuichi are that. According to the author, they are not intended to be anything more than that.

  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy, for Tenko's Girly girl (although Tenko is a little more aggressive than expected for this trope).

  • School Is for Losers: Claims to have dropped out of school, most likely due to the strict organization.
Kurumi: “Still don’t appreciate the roll call though, dropped out for a lot of reasons but that one was a biggie,” Kirumi grumbles.

  • Adaptational Jerkass : Canonically she was more then happy to serve others. Now, she appears to put herself before others, albeit cause she gets annoyed with peoples criticism's.

     Tenko Chabashira

Tenko Chabashira

Ultimate Traditional Dancer

A deeply traditional girl, she believes that all girls should be ladylike like her. Seems to treat all males with suspicion.

     Miu Iruma

Miu Iruma

Ultimate Gambler

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7ec04655_9004_4f46_8684_6bf3a9886b2c.png
"I've entered and won a lotta tournaments. They call me the 'Queen of Liars' down there."

Miu Iruma, a great illegal gambler, at least that's what she says, she claims to be known by several nicknames, with the main one being “Queen of Liars” but no one really believes. It turns out to be true however. She is the assassin of chapter 1, being coerced by Tsumugi to kill Kokichi.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Although on the Canon it is not pleasant, and in general the The Friend Nobody Likes, she at least well intentioned. Here she is a Psychopath, a manipulator, whose plot was to kill someone even without Tsumugi's intervention.
  • Casual Kink: She is prone to making indecent and undesirable comments in any situation. When she abandons her act she loses that characteristic
  • Manipulative Bitch: You probably wouldn't believe it at first sight though. She is a Psychopath, Manipulator, who uses her apparent vulgarity to deceive her opponents and people around her.
  • No Social Skills: As his canonical version is his reason for his peculiar behavior. subverted: Your behavior is basically an act. In reality, she is basically a The Social Expert who uses this facade to deceive people around her.
  • Walking Spoiler: It’s hard to mention her without mentioning The fact that she is the first killer, and the fact that her personality is an act.

     Maki Harukawa

Maki Harukawa

Ultimate Inventor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e6694205_14fa_4d84_9710_12c7aaaa9fdc.png
"And no, I don’t keep my inventions on me. Unlike some people, I don't like to show off my work like a narcissist."

An emotionally distant inventor, with reasonably famous inventions, who seek to be useful to people, contact lenses or flammable pepper sprays, or in other cases weapons sold to the government. She is usually quite direct, and is not afraid to say what she thinks, without bothering to offend or threaten people in the process.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Self explanatory. He is one of the most emotionally distant members of the group, and has dark hair.
  • Brutal Honesty: She is very direct with her personal opinions, and has no problem in offending people when she speaks.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Although she doesn't sympathize much with her colleagues, she finds it terribly wrong to pursue Kibou for her talent.
  • Brainwash Residue : She seems to snap back to her canon counterparts mannerism, to the point of threatening others with screwdrivers.
  • Gun Nut : She has some intense weaponry on hand.

Non-Binary Students

     Tsumugi Shirogane

Tsumugi Shirogane

Ultimate Lucky Student

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_f93a40f3030ea18fbd8f718e1d58d485_2e5ca813_1280.png
A strange person with a polite and mysterious demeanor and an imitation ability. Similar to Nagito Komaeda, Tsumugi does not consider her supernatural luck a real talent and seems to have great faith in "Hope". Nevertheless, her luck is not something to be underestimated. She is the mentor of the first case, manipulating Kokichi to be killed by Miu, then threatening to kill Miu in case she accepts the First Blood Perk

  • Ambiguous Situation: Whether she is still the mastermind in this version is not made clear.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Despite his affable and friendly behavior, she even manipulated Kokichi to death, and encouraged Miu not to accept the first blood perk. In the second chapter she instigated discord by manipulating Gonta against Angie.
  • Blessed with Suck: Her talent and that for her. As much as she is phenomenally lucky, she divides into cycles of Good and Bad Luck, which not only harm her, but also those around her.
  • Otaku: A dark version of that Trope. Tsumugi is really well versed in anime tropes, and seems to often compare situations in her life or the killing game with that, regardless of the situation, whether in a trivial situation, being revealed with accomplice of the first case or moments before Miu's death
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about her without mentioning her relationship with the first murder.
  • Voice Changeling: Tsumugi has the ability to imitate voices perfectly, and uses this to cheer up Kaede in chapter 1. This is terribly useful in the first case, as she used this ability to attract Kokichi to be killed by Miu.
  • Brainwash Residue: She seems to have vague recollections of the original game, especially Rantaro's death.

     Kibou Idabashi

Kibou Idabashi

Ultimate Soldier

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d1eafba5_7b7f_4a16_b63b_418ac7cdd3a0.png

A very friendly soldier who works in his squad's medical division.

  • Adaptation Name Change: In canon, his name was translated as K1-B0; as he isn't a robot in this fic, the spelling is altered to Kibou, closer to the original romaji.
  • Idiot Hair: A little bit stranger than his canonical version, because this time he is not a robot.
  • Nice Guy: Despite being a soldier, Kibou is a genuinely nice person.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: According to him, he has already been in such a situation. By confusing the gender of one of your squadmates. Because of this he always asks which pronouns his colleagues prefer be called.
  • The Medic: He has that role in his squad.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Although "Nobody Likes" is an exaggeration, Kiibo is not well regarded by a good part of the group, being a soldier and even being a doctor in his group, everyone thinks he kills people.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population : Despite being human, he is still shown with grey skin.

     Angie Yonaga

Angie Yonaga

Ultimate Programmer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6e551469_2b2b_4729_ae35_46778c13bcfb.png
Coming from a mysterious island, Angie is a talented Programmer. With a friendly and cherful behavior, don't be fooled by this, they are quite manipulative when they want to.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Downplayed Trope. Behind her cheerful and childlike appearance, Angie is a very manipulative person.
  • Celibate Hero: Angie is confirmed as celibate, although hero is an exaggeration she apparently has good intentions in her actions.
  • Tranquil Fury: In chapter 2 (chapter 14 to be more exact) When Tsumugi manipulates Gonta against they, although he is still smiling it is possible to notice that they are furious.
  • Stepford Smiler: They are smiling all the time, even when she is not happy. An example occurred in the second chapter, where their smile was so big that it was possible to realize that it was not genuine

  • Well-Intentioned Extremist : While exaggerating their attempts to manipulate their colleagues, they (apparently) have a good intention. Because they know that attempts to escape will only make everyone unhappy.

     Korekiyo Shinguji

Korekiyo Shinguji

Ultimate Bike Gang Leader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dd2d0a56_1750_4018_bdad_86a92af59ecf.png

The current leader of the Medusa gang, don't be fooled, either by his friendly behavior, or by his slightly intimidating talent and appearance. While he is very polite, Kiyo is also a dangerous criminal, who believes in teamwork and cooperation.

  • Affably Evil: Downplayed Trope : Although he is not Evil, they are still criminals, with extremely friendly and kind behavior.
  • Medusa: Your Gang's theme (and her name). To the point that he, his sister and the third in command are nicknamed based on the gorgons: The sister was Medusa, Kiyo was Euryale and the third was Stheno.

     Himiko Yumeno

Himiko Yumeno

Ultimate Artist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/915ff038_4e93_4eb1_b3a4_bd838a9e0973.png

  • Sleepyhead : Same as in canon, Himeko is very lazy and lethargic.
  • Based on a Dream : All of her art is apparently based on her dreams.
  • Surrealism : She is specifically known for her Surrealist Art, including a picture of a girl standing on the ceiling.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes : They are how her eyes are by default, due to her sleep schedule.
  • The Roleplayer : She mentions it as being one of the only times she cares about her pronouns.
  • Brainwash Residue : She briefly starts babbling about "Water Magic"

Male Students

     Shuichi Saihara

Shuichi Saihara

Ultimate Fashionista

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_829f39d82fbbf64beb964c2be926a1c8_ec4c19fe_1280_6.png

The first person that Kaede meets after awakening in the academy, Shuichi is a famous Japanese Model. Despite his fame, he is very subdued and self-conscious.

     Rantaro Amami

Rantaro Amami

Ultimate Affluent Progeny

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_8954c06b29e3896b4c84e48942f50c54_f911fb6f_1280.png

Rantaro is the offspring of the (seemingly) famous Amami Family.

  • Spoiled Sweet : Downplayed Trope : Despite his vast wealth, Rantaro acts relatively friendly and kind.
  • Brain Bleach: He was disgusted at having awoken in a bathroom stall.
  • Adaptational Job Change : One of them most prevalent, as he never had a specific talent in his original incarnation.
  • Wealthy Philanthropist : A minor example. His family lent Shuichi's family money to afford an expensive shooting venue.
  • Expy : of Byakuya Togami. Is shown when the class gets tired out on the Death Road of Despair.

     Ryoma Hoshi

Ryoma Hoshi

A laid-back amnesiac, not much is known about this pocket-sized student.

     Kokichi Ouma

Kokichi Ouma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_b92e103d22f88b46adb4369326203a67_39c09381_1280_9.png

Kokichi is a fortune teller and psychic. It still doesn't keep him from being an inconsiderate brat with a twisted sense of humour.

Kokichi: “Hm, alright. But don’t wait too long...I hear that livers are selling pretty high this time of year.”
  • Walking Spoiler: It’s hard to mention him without mentioning The fact that he is the first murder victim.

     Kaito Momota

Kaito Momota

Ultimate Swimming Pro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_b25b74f07e1248585243b891e81e9bae_5cada8c6_1280.png

Kaito is a confident, bordering on arrogant swimmer, but that doesn't stop him from being a friendly person.

     Gonta Gokuhara

Gonta Gokuhara

A gentle giant, Gonta is a dedicated martial artist and a kind soul. Could stand to get some glasses though.

  • Gentle Giant : This is Gonta, so it's par for the course.
  • All-Loving Hero : Gonta is friendly to everyone, even to characters like Kokichi.
