    Metallic (Metal Sonic)

"It doesn't matter. He might have needed you then, but I don't need you now."

  • Adaptational Heroism: After having lost his memories and found by Chris and his grandfather, Metallic somewhat becomes this. However, he has his own agenda in fighting Dr. Eggman, even wanting to go so far as tearing apart the entire coast just to hunt the Doctor down and kill him.

  • Byronic Hero: Metallic is definitely not a traditional hero, and both while under Eggman's control and not, he's terrorized the Mobian populace in one way or another.

  • Composite Character: Metallic serves as this, as he's explicitly listed in the tags to be a roboticized Sonic and he takes what would be Sonic's place in this version of the Sonic X series.

  • Determinator: Like in the games and other Sonic-based media, Metallic is definitely this.

  • Good Is Not Nice: Metallic may have switched sides, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's become a "nice guy." He is not above going out of his way to hurt his own allies when they've hurt him, as seen when he throws Sonic's roboticization in Tails' face. And while Bokkun isn't an ally, Metallic almost strangles him just because he's in a bad mood.

  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Despite Sonic being absent from the story outside of flashbacks due to Metallic being a roboticized version of him, Metallic still manages to develop this anyway: trying to convince himself that he is superior to Sonic, especially after learning his true origin.

  • Killer Robot: Again, like in the games and other Sonic-based media, Metallic is this.

  • Sanity Slippage: Metallic is mentioned more than once to have gone through this when he became Metal Overlord, similar to what occurred in Sonic Heroes.

  • Tomato in the Mirror: Partially subverted in that Metallic originally believed himself to be a copy of Sonic, only to learn later that he used to be Sonic and was roboticized. It also doesn't help that he doesn't like being compared to Sonic, and considers himself to be superior. Then it's revealed the Roboticizer Eggman used on Sonic was one of his older versions, and unlike later versions this Roboticizer involves vaporizing organic matter with lasers and replacing it with mechanical parts. Eggman taunts Metallic in chapter 14, telling him that it's because of this that he's neither the real Sonic or even his own person, and that he's still just a robotic copy of Sonic. This throws Metallic into an even deeper identity crisis than he was already in to begin with.

  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Metallic is a roboticized Sonic in this story. He is free of Eggman's control now, but he shows signs of having been affected by this knowledge.

    Miles "Tails" Prower

"I wonder what that was all about?"

  • Ace Pilot: Tails is almost always the one flying both incarnations of the Tornado.

  • Aerith and Bob: Tails' real name is Miles Prower.

  • Badass Adorable: Tails, with the assistance of his friends, managed to build a brand new plane even better than the original in less than a day. Also falls under Badass Bookworm and Child Prodigy.

  • Best Friend: Was this to Sonic before he vanished and was roboticized. Tails is also this to the rest of his friends.

  • Break the Cutie: Upon figuring out Metallic's a roboticized Sonic, Tails runs away from the Thorndyke Mansion out of terror at the revelation at the end of Chapter 9 and then brutally rips into him when he approaches him next chapter. Once he calms down to help in the following chapter, Tails tries to apologize for it, but Metallic is not in a forgiving mood.

  • Cartoony Tail: Like in any Sonic media he shows up in, Tails is capable of flight via spinning his tails. How this is possible without injuring them and rendering them useless is still a mystery, since no explanation is given.

  • Cool Plane: Both the original Tornado and the Tornado X-treme are this. Even more so with the latter, since Tails was directly involved in its construction.

  • Heli-Critter: Tails is literally this, since he can spin his tails to fly.

    Chris Thorndyke

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4zfzkqwx_400x400.jpeg
"They're from the family Nymphalidae. Some people call them other names too— milkweed, common tiger, wanderer… they also look a lot like the viceroy butterfly."

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Like in the English dub of the Sonic X series, this Chris is a lot nicer than the Chris in the Japanese version.

  • Adaptational Skill: Chris seems extremely knowledgable about butterflies.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Chris is very into butterflies and drawing. The latter is justified since in the anime he painted a Chaos Emerald in class once.

  • Designated Victim: He's gotten into life-threatening situations in multiple instances.

  • Idiot Ball: Probably wasn't the smartest idea to go after that first Chaos Emerald all by himself. He almost falls to his death.

  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Like in the anime, he's hardly ever referred to by his full name Christopher.

    Charles "Grandpa" Thorndyke

Thinking: "Yep, I'm gonna need to go back onto my heart medication again."

    Amy Rose

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_03_11_at_94713_am.png
"Whoa... It's so pretty!"

  • Action Girl: She's involved in a fight in almost every chapter of the story.
  • Adaptational Badass: While she was already a badass in the anime, she is more so here- even if she doesn't make the smartest of decisions at times, she's still easily able to hold her own in a fight.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Amy is more level-headed than her anime counterpart. It is also mentioned that before Sonic's "death" they became Just Friends.
  • Badass Normal: She may not have any powers outside of somehow summoning her Piko Piko Hammer from thin air, but she can still pack a punch.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Gender-inverted. Amy is protective of her friends and treats Cream like a younger sister.
  • Girly Bruiser: She may be sweet and gentle with her friends, but she can be brutal in a fight.

    Julie-Su

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e1ewonruyait7gv.jpeg
"Just take the stupid Emerald already!"

  • Crossover: Julie-Su is a character from the Pre-Genesis Wave Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comics, and has never appeared in the actual anime itself.
  • Cyborg: Fanart from the author shows she has cybernetics.
  • The Gunslinger: Doubled in that Julie-Su now wields two pistols instead of one.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She started out clearly distrustful of Metallic, but after what happened in chapter 7, she's grown to trust him.

    Uncle Chuck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_03_11_at_74717_am.png
"I think and feel, therefore I am alive. You think and feel too. Therefore, you're alive. Say it. Say 'I'm alive.'"

  • Adaptational Badass: Uncle Chuck was already a badass with his technological know-how and sneakiness around Robotnik/Eggman when still roboticized in the comics, but here he also has a turbine of his own and arm cannons (which so far have only been used underwater to propel himself, but still).

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comics and the Sonic SATAM cartoon, Uncle Chuck is Sonic's uncle. Since Metallic is a roboticized Sonic in this adaptation of Sonic X, that means he's Metallic's uncle here as well.

  • Crossover: Like Julie-Su, Uncle Chuck is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comics, and has never appeared in the actual anime itself.

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He tries to be this for the rest of the cast, alongside Chuck Thorndyke.

  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Uncle Chuck is one of Dr. Eggman's countless victims to the Roboticizer. Luckily he's free now, but he still holds guilt for whatever actions he took when under Eggman's control.

    Cream & Cheese

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_03_11_at_95013_am.png
"You better be, or we're coming for you anyway!"

  • Damsel in Distress: She and Cheese are captured by Eggman, and then later by G.U.N. and have to be rescued in the latter case. Amy even tells her and Cheese to stay put when she, Tails, and Julie-Su prepare to leave for Hotel de Blanc, claiming it's "too dangerous."

  • Ear Wings: According to her own dialogue, she's capable of flight, she just can't fly very far.

  • Loyal Animal Companion: She's never seen in the story without Cheese. They even sleep together in their hammock.

  • Meaningful Name: For both of them. If you put their names together without the word "and" you wind up with Cream Cheese, like the food.

  • Nice Girl: Cream is one of the nicest characters amongst the cast.

    Ella

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_03_11_at_52546_pm.png

  • Break the Cutie: She takes her brief, yet traumatizing, experience as Eggman's captive with no small amount of shock, telling Cream after being rescued in chapter 14 that she needed to be by herself at the moment.

    Mr. Tanaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_03_11_at_52559_pm.png
some caption text

  • Everybody Knew Already: Partially subverted, but Ella and Mr. Tanaka were shown to already know that they have Mobians in the house while their employers were attempting to keep them secrfet. Mr. Tanaka jokes that they should just purposefully barge in on Chris and Grandpa Thorndyke and tell them they know. In chapter 10, they actually follow through on that when Tails runs off.

Villains

    Dr. Eggman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eggman_75.png
"WHAT PART OF INTACT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!"

  • Adaptational Villainy: Where the anime's version of the character is more of an Adaptational Nice Guy, this version of Dr. Eggman swings in the other direction. He has some funny moments here and there, but most of the time he's written as a monster.

  • Big Bad: He took over Mobotropolis and roboticized those who were left in the city, is known to have used the Metal Virus, managed to capture and roboticize Sonic, made Metallic his enforcer, and built a World Roboticizer to finally achieve his vision of a world "of only metal."

  • Humans Are Bastards: A very clear example of this, at that.

  • Manchild: Clearly Played for Laughs. Eggman has a habit of going into a screaming fit and yanking on his own mustache when things don't go his way. It gets bad enough to the point where he actually pulls out hair and starts screaming in pain instead.

  • Sadist: Eggman is especially this in chapter 13, to the point where it's even lampshaded in-narration.

  • Would Hurt a Child: He presumably would've roboticized any children left in Mobotropolis during his takeover, if they had not all evacuated in time, he abducted Cream and was about to power up his World Roboticizer with the last Chaos Emerald, and in the latest chapter threatens to kill Chris if Amy and her friends don't surrender.

    Messenger "Bokkun" Robo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_03_11_at_30336_pm.png
some caption text

  • Accidental Misnaming: Bokkun has a fit when Uncle Chuck calls him "Messenger Robo." Dialogue implies this happens on a regular basis, and it turns into a running gag as the story goes on. Also falls under Do Not Call Me "Paul".
