Useful Tips:

    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

Does the DCAU's portrayal of Superman genuinely qualify for Adaptational Wimp? Its argument is: "Only by comparison with his mainstream comic book counterpart. This version of Superman is by no means weak and at least in to top ten list of most powerful people on his show and Justice League. But while this Superman can punch Darkseid across a city through several skyscrapers, Comics!Superman can crack the moon in half and under stress, shift the earth right out of its orbit. He also hasn't had the extensive combat training of his mainstream counterpart who's been trained by many warriors like Batman, Wonder Woman, Mongul, Orion and he hasn't been in nearly as many battles or crises that his comic book version has gone through. (Though his comic book version has been around for decades so this is understandable)"

Last time I looked, Adaptational Wimp is when the character is significantly more ineffectual than in the source material or in other adaptations. It's more than just power and fighting skills, it also includes agency, intelligence and independence. It is true that Superman was a victim of The Worf Effect in the early seasons of Justice League but the writers apologized and made up for it. What so you say?

Are the following examples from Flash War being used correctly?:

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The Flash fanbase is known to get volatile when it comes to Barry Allen fans and Wally West fans, so marketing a story as one where the "best" Flash will be decided... yeah, people within the fanbase aren't pleased, nor are general DC fans who know of the Broken Base.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Seeing Barry and Wally fight over Wally attempting to save his kids despite the potential damage it would do brings about the idea that this could've been what Flashpoint should've been about, with the idea of both Flashes being in conflict because of Barry being too obsessed with saving his mother no matter the consequences with Wally trying to stop him.

[up] Nope. Audience-Alienating Premise is when a work flops critically and financially because its premise is a tough sell to a mainstream audience. They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot is "this storyline didn't get enough attention or wasn't properly explored", not "I didn't like how this plotline was handled."

Are the following examples from Dumbo (2019) being used correctly?:

  • Internet Backdraft: Despite the generally positive reception of other recent Disney live-action remakes, this remake has so far received a chilly reception. Many feel that Tim Burton is simply not suited for the source-material, the whimsical nature of the animated film makes it ill-suited for live-action, the animals get less attention than the humans, and the fact that Disney is simply doing one remake too many.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The film being a Human-Focused Adaptation in the vain of the 1996 remake of 101 Dalmatians leaving less focus on Dumbo and leaving Timothy Q. Mouse out of the picture.
  • WTH, Casting Agency?: More like a director variant, but why on Earth would Disney hire Tim Burton to direct a remake of Dumbo!?

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

  • Never Live It Down: Even if the game manages to be fantastic, it will likely be remembered for having one of the most awkward announcements in gaming history. E3 2018, the biggest gaming news event of the year, and how does EA announce this new title? By having a reporter talk with the head of Respawn in the middle of a crowd. Not onstage, not even at a booth. And what does he reveal? That Respawn is making the game, the title, and some incredibly sparse information regarding the character and setting (it's about a Jedi between episodes III and IV). That's it. No gameplay, a trailer, or even a teaser. And not a single screenshot, concept art, or even a logo reveal.

Isn't it a bit too soon to qualify as NLID?

From CowboyBebopAtHisComputer.Comic Books:

  • The controversial Batgirl cover (the one where Batgirl is shown crying) raised some heated discussion, and at least one forum claimed that male superheroes were never shown weak or unable to act due to trauma. When Scarecrow's fear gas was brought up, they quickly claimed that it doesn't count because it's "not real fear, only chemicals". His fear gas creates realistic hallucinations of the victim's fears to terrify them, it doesn't just make them scared without a reason. By that logic, PTSD shouldn't exist, since any possible hallucinations are not real.

It sounds like the post was from a random person on a forum, not the media. I don't think it counts then.

The Dumbo and Star Wars examples come across as kneejerk reactions that are subject to change once the works are fully released and examined. By the way, I still heavily contest DCAU Superman being an Adaptational Wimp. The only way DCAU Superman can qualify as such is if we compare him to the Silver Age Superman, who was so OP he could move a series of planets across the galaxy.

I didn't get an answer in Ho Yay Cleanup.

Should Togo/Yuna be under HoYay.Yuki Yuna Is A Hero considering that Togo canonically likes Yuna? What about HoYay.Sound Euphonium? The series seems to lay on the "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship too thick to be unintentional Les Yay. It seems more like Homoerotic Subtext.

From Fanfic.Friendship Is Failure:

  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Subverted by Strings and Helper Soul who only care about the fact that Cadance and Twilight Velet respectively didn't marry them.
  • Reality Ensues: Like with Starfleet magic this is Mykan's goal with this series. But as pointed out, it's less about "Reality Ensuing" and more about him getting petty revenge on the characters.

Is the former a subversion since it makes no reference to setting up the trope in the first place? And if they failed it successfully invoke Reality Ensues, Is it an example as this trope is about it unfolding in-universe? (It also lacks any specific examples and seems to exist only for writer bashing.)

[up][up] An Archnemesis Dad has to be a father-figure to the person they are nemesis to. Actual biological relationship is not needed, but the relationship MUST be to the person.

[up] I suppose it could technically be possible, but baring Word of God on the subject it would be hard to find any accidental Foreshadowing.

  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Someone saying that the laptop in the movie was originally owned by Nevil from iCarly.
    • Matias resembling Zack Braff.
  • Narm:
    • KELLAIE!!!
      • The face that Matias makes here is just as hammy.
    • While it can be seen as a Tearjerker scene, the face that one of the main characters makes when they see their mother in the hospital, showing off their lower row of teeth and slightly shaking with her eyes half-closed, can be seen as this.
    • The description of the movie, describing Matias as a "20-something" might ruin the mood, or lack thereof.

Would either or both of these count as valid examples of Word of Gay?

  • Sleepless Domain
    • The reveal that Zoe is transgender occurs as a mix of in and out of comic information. In-Comic, a little girl named Claire describes how a cousin of hers recently becoming a Magical Girl was a surprise "'cause we still thought she was a boy." Along with this comic were posted author notes confirming that transgender Magical Girls are indeed something that can happen within the setting. A comic not long after confirms that Claire's cousin is Zoe.
    • For Pride Month, 2018, author Mary Cagle tweeted artwork of her LGBTQ characters with their relevant Pride flags. Transgender for Zoe, Gay Pride for Team Melty, and Pansexual for Outrageous Lime. Zoe has already been confirmed while Melty Flame and Melty Frost were Sickeningly Sweethearts from moment one. Outrageous Lime, however, has only been seen or mentioned a few times, with only two related to her sexuality. The first was surprise that she had a boyfriend ("As in a boy boy?") and, on first seeing Heartful Punch and Undine together, remarking "So that's your type", prompting HP to hastily try and change the subject while Lime brushes it off because "she has a guy now".

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S8 E9 "Non-Compete Clause":

  • One-Scene Wonder: Applejack and Rainbow Dash's rescue. Gallus' deadpan response to whether or not to save their teachers which was to leave them hanging until they get eaten, and Ocellus' giant Bita-cuda form are generally considered to be the only saving graces of the episode, preventing it from being considered Fanon Discontinuity all together.

I'm cutting since they're major characters this episode, not one-scene, and it just a vessel to sneak in complaining. Any objections?

Is there a reason why the character can't just be listed as Archnemesis Dad to the love interest character? The page doesn't actually say anything about protagonists.
