The various villains seen in Power Academy.
Main Antagonists
Jonathan Knight
Jonathan is the head of Knight Research Labs—on the surface, a legitimate research company, but in reality, a front for his twisted, evil deeds. He's one of the most clear and imminent threats towards the students and staff of Power Academy, and is deeply tied into the backstory of several of its students. Including the player character.
- Absurdly Youthful Father: Subverted; he only looks like he's way too young to have a 18-year-old daughter.
- Achilles' Heel: The only thing that can truly kill a Creator is another Creator. If Beth is in the party for the final fight with Jonathan, she cuts loose, unleashing her full power to basically curb-stomp Jonathan.
- The Ageless
- Archnemesis Dad: For Beth. Could possibly count as one for elemental!Hikaru as well.
- Big Bad
- Big Bad Duumvirate: Forms one with Terminus. It's unclear if they are truly working together or secretly manipulating each other.
- Big Bad Wannabe: In the later stages of the story.
- The Caligula: Albeit for a company rather than a government.
- The Casanova: He can get nearly any woman he wants, thanks to his powers. Sabrina denied his advances, though—but Jonathan created a daughter based on her anyway.
- Casting a Shadow
- Corrupt Corporate Executive
- Diabolical Mastermind
- Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: On the receiving end of this from Juliana. Turns out to be a mutual case.
- Doting Parent: Zig-zagged. Though he created Beth out of loneliness and treated her like his little angel, he ignores her most of the time in the present.
- Expy: He bears a strong resemblance to Yuuki Terumi, in terms of fashion, personality and morality.
- Faux Affably Evil
- For the Evulz
- The Heavy: Along with Eris, Vilhelm, and the Arbiter, he does most of the work for the villains. This helps to conceal Terminus' involvement.
- Humanoid Abomination
- If I Can't Have You…: Murdered Sabrina for resisting his advances.
- No Sense of Personal Space: He tends to get...close around people, as if he wasn't unsettling enough.
- Older Than They Look: He's ageless, but has altered his appearance to look like he's in his early twenties.
- Psychopathic Manchild: When he's not projecting himself as a Villain with Good Publicity, anyway.
- Reality Warper
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Juliana's Blue.
- Sharp-Dressed Man
- Unholy Matrimony: With Juliana.
- Villain Decay: He starts out as the most threatening villain the heroes will face...and is diminished once Terminus fully enters the picture. Eventually, the Great Old One decides he's too much of a threat to her and tries to have him taken out.
- Villain with Good Publicity: Though it's obviously all a front to hide his evil tendencies. It's not until the heroes provide the authorities with incontrovertible evidence of his nefarious plans that he finally drops the act.
- Villainous Breakdown: Goes through one during the heroes' final fight with him. Doubly so if Beth happens to be there.
Eris Mychro (formerly Helena)
The Helena of the heroes' universe, who was accidentally killed a few years prior, by a falling piece of debris during a fight between Talan and Swilium. She was evil long before that point, however, given an incident where she humiliated Talan. It turns out she wasn't killed in the fight—only left for dead. Jonathan Knight later recovered her in her broken state and used her as a test subject for his brutal experiments, held in the same facility as Sam. One night, after she was accidentally killed in an experiment, she was temporarily resurrected by demonic forces; she went on a rampage, causing a mass breakout that allowed Sam to escape.
One day, Alderon receives word that Helena, now adopting the name "Eris," is about to take over the underworld. Left with no choice, he resurrects her to bring her back into the world of the living. She is denied her conquest of the underworld, but at what cost, one can only speculate...
- Asshole Victim: Really, with everything she pulls over the course of the story, it's hard to feel that bad for her when she's banished to the Netherworld.
- Ax-Crazy
- Back from the Dead
- Chainmail Bikini: During her boss fight, Eris wears a very flattering set of adamantine armor. She claims it's based off of Hoplite armor, but it's clearly impractical; she really only chose it for intimidation factor over protection, and she can simply create more armor at will. Helena recreates the armor as a mocking trophy.
- Co-Dragons: Given her power level and the fact that she poses a significant hurdle to the heroes at numerous points, she is considered one of these to Terminus, along with the Arbiter.
- Does Not Like Men
- The Dreaded
- Evil Twin: ...kind of.
- Extra-ore-dinary
- From Nobody to Nightmare
- The Heavy: Along with Jonathan, Vilhelm and the Arbiter.
- Humanoid Abomination: As an undead entity. She's believed by the party in the game to be the most likely candidate as a guise or host for Terminus. She's not.
- Jerkass
- Logical Weakness: Who better to fight a metal-based boss than Helena and Corvus? And since metal can melt, rust and conduct electricity, Emily, Val, Layla and Dawn are also really good against her.
- Meaningful Rename: Renames herself after the Greek goddess of chaos and strife.
- Multiple-Choice Past
- Omnicidal Maniac
- Our Liches Are Different
- Posthumous Character: Until Alderon resurrected her.
- Revenge Before Reason: Vengeance is her primary motivation.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Against Talan and Swilium. Later, she extends the scope of her revenge to all of the world.
- Shoulders of Doom: Part of her Chainmail Bikini.
- Shout-Out: Her armor resembles that of Mu-12.
- Super-Strength: Thanks to being undead.
- Troll: When she was still just a ghost, she enjoyed taunting Swilium whenever he was having girl troubles.
- White Hair, Black Heart
Professor Vilhelm Christiansen
Vilhelm was a brilliant cyberneticist who was dying of a rare congenital heart defect. After years of feverish work, he perfected a cybernetic heart and saved his own life with it. However, he didn't stop there; he realized the potential of his work and proceeded to modify his body further, eventually turning himself into a cybernetic monstrosity. Vilhelm also modified his brain with wireless sensors to take control of nearby electronic systems. He grudgingly works with Timmy as the co-teacher for the Mad Science class—though for obvious reasons is held in very low regard by the students.
Unsurprisingly, he's one of the main antagonists, serving as the Evil Genius.
- Body Horror: He has completely butchered his physical form, replacing parts and grafting on cybernetics where he sees fit.
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Allied with him? Don't get attached. This turns out to be his undoing.
- Contagious A.I.: He has the ability to create and upload multiple copies of his consciousness to take control of other machines.
- Disney Villain Death: How he dies after his boss fight. Well, his physical form anyway.
- Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: During his boss fight, if Layla, Emily, and Jana pull off their combined elemental attack. Doubles as a Shout-Out to Pokemon2000.Vilhelm: Fascinating. Electricity supercharges the water, which then makes contact with fire, and when turned into a focused beam—...oh. Fuck. (gets hit by the attack)
- Expy: Jacob Crow, meet Henry Lawson.
- General Failure: For all his intellect and scientific expertise, Vilhelm is a dreadful leader, constantly getting the people under his command killed when he's not experimenting on them.
- I Was Quite a Looker: Was surprisingly attractive before he modified himself.
- Immortality Immorality: He even offers to "enhance" others who wish to experience "immortality".
- Lack of Empathy: For anyone. Aside from how callous he acts towards his supposed allies, he casually throws lives away for his experiments and battles, caring nothing about the consequences of his actions as long as he gets his immortality. In the end, this turns out to be his Fatal Flaw; he ends up betraying his allies and facing a powerful group of heroes utterly loyal to one another, and finds himself overwhelmed. It's not until just before he dies that he makes this painful realization.
- Malevolent Masked Men: Hides his face behind a metal faceplate.
- Man in the Machine: At this point, he is at least 80% machine.
- A Nazi by Any Other Name: Aside from the whole Josef Mengele vibe about him, Vilhelm is bent on perfecting humanity in his own twisted way.
- Playing with Syringes: There's a reason Alexei refers to him as "the butcher".
- Virtual Ghost: Becomes one upon his physical death. The body is destroyed, but he lives on via copies of his consciousness.
The Arbiter, aka Slade Ashen
Enshrouded in mystery, the Arbiter is the leader of the Church of Terminus, a cult worshiping the Great Old One. His pseudonym comes from the fact that his followers view him as the conduit between Terminus and the people of Earth—the one who would bring peace through the Great Old One's wrath. The Arbiter leads their enthralled forces on a path of destruction while the Great Old One consolidates power. He believes he is doing the world a favor with these actions, rationalizing that this will force an Enemy Mine situation for the world once Terminus strikes.
He is actually Slade Ashen. His disappearance was no accident; he simply used it as a cover to go off the grid and serve his new master. When the heroes unmask him, it causes no short amount of shock—especially for Val and Isaac. He ends up fighting the party at several points, and even temporarily joins forces with them at one point.
- Archnemesis Dad: To Valerie and Isaac once they discover the truth about him.
- Awkward Father-Son Bonding Activity: Fighting alongside Val and/or Isaac during their hunt for Vilhelm certainly counts.]]
- BFS: He can form a massive ice zweihander in his hand.
- Bloody Murder: When wounded, he freezes his blood to use in attacks (not unlike Isaac the Freezer).
- Broken Pedestal: To Valerie and Isaac.
- Death Seeker: Eventually becomes this if the party spares him for long enough, and if [[spoiler:the player character successfully reaches out to him and plants the seeds of doubt.
- Desperation Attack: The less health he has left, the more damage he does. Especially useful for the party.
- Disappeared Dad: Went missing years ago, presumed dead. He never really disappeared, however...
- Enemy Mine: His ultimate goal is a large-scale version of this, in an attempt to unite humanity.
- During Episode 6, if he is still alive, he temporarily joins forces with the party to take down Vilhelm; he recognizes him as a threat to everyone, not just him.
- Enigmatic Minion: The heroes constantly wonder if the Arbiter is truly evil or simply misguided—especially once his identity is revealed.
- Evil Is Deathly Cold: Everywhere he goes, an aura of cold air surrounds him. And when his powers are active, he can walk across water by actively freezing it with each step.
- Fallen Hero: Rumored to be a former crimefighting superhuman. Turns out to be true.
- Generation Xerox: Resembles an older version of Isaac, but with Valerie's deep green eyes.
- Killed Off for Real: He is inevitably killed off by the game's end—if not by the party, then by Terminus.
- Knight Templar: Believes that by aiding Terminus, it would help unite the world in fighting against the Great Old One.
- Mouth of Sauron: The public face for Terminus, while the Great Old One covertly consolidates power.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Before his identity is revealed, he is solely referred to by his title.
- Open-Minded Parent: If Val and/or Isaac are in same-sex relationships, Slade doesn't care; he just hopes they'll be happy together.
- So Proud of You: His dying words to Val and Isaac if they are present for the final fight with him.
- Suicide by Cop: Or by Power Academy students, rather. By the time of the Battle for Hell, he's realized his mistake of following Terminus, and tries to end his life this way by fighting the party to the death. Either the heroes (inadvertently) kill him or Terminus does.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He is known to execute followers who fail him. Ironically, the same thing happens to him courtesy of Terminus if he survives the game for long enough.
Terminus
The Great Old One, Master of Reality, Ruler of Shadows—all common names used to describe this...entity. According to legend, Terminus is a Multiversal Conqueror who ravages universes and destroys heroes wherever she goes. But over the course of the story, it's revealed that Terminus is very real, and a very real threat to the heroes—one of the most powerful they will ever fight. It's all just a question of what form the Great Old One has taken...
- The Ageless
- Ambiguous Gender: Can assume any form, though often referred to as female.
- Big Bad: In the later stages of the story.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: With Jonathan, at first. It's unclear if they are truly working together or secretly manipulating each other. In the end, however, they betray each other, with Terminus ending up as the main villain.
- Black Eyes of Crazy: Her human forms have completely black eyes aside from bright red irises.
- Breaking Lecture: Attempts to break the heroes' will to fight during the final battle with this.
- Brought Down to Badass: Though she is trapped within the heroes' universe and cut off from her full power, she is still more or less a demigod in terms of ability.
- Casting a Shadow: Case in point, she's the creator of Simon's gauntlets, indirectly the source of his power.
- The Dreaded
- Eldritch Abomination
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: During the final battle, she attempts to break the heroes' will to fight, believing they fight for a lost cause. This ends up being her undoing; she has only the most superficial idea of what the heroes' motivations are and why they do what they do, and is utterly baffled to see them doing so well in the final battle.
- Eviler than Thou: She attempts to kill Jonathan—partly as a show of force, but also because she grows tired of his For the Evulz antics.
- Expy: Greatly inspired by both Majora and the Entity.
- Faux Affably Evil
- Fatal Flaw: See Evil Cannot Comprehend Good above.
- Final Boss
- First-Episode Twist: Early in the game, she's thought to be a myth, but is soon revealed to be real. The Great Old One's mortal guise, however, is a bigger mystery.
- God of Evil: Or at least, she is worshiped as one by a group of cultists.
- Hero Killer
- Hopeless Boss Fight: She briefly fights the player character once her identity has been uncovered. She does not take damage during this fight, and in fact reflects any damage the PC deals out. It keeps going until the PC reaches dangerously low HP.
- Large Ham / The Stoic: Alternates between the two. She can go from bombastic and over-the-top to terrifyingly understated at the drop of a hat (and vice versa).
- Load-Bearing Boss: Once she is destroyed, her pocket dimension collapses...and the heroes are transported back to the battle-scarred Power Academy afterward, thanks to Tarot's intervention.
- Lotus-Eater Machine: During the final mission, she traps the party and their allies inside a Pocket Dimension that manifests their greatest fears and hopes.
- Mind Rape: One of her favored tactics; she can use psychic torture to keep her minions in line.
- No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: The reason why Terminus resorts to gradual subterfuge over destroying the heroes outright? She's done the latter so many times in so many other universes it's become banal to her. Thus, killing the heroes is secondary to breaking their spirit for her. It's not until the Academy sufficiently aggravates her by foiling her plans that she goes for the direct approach.
- Omnicidal Maniac
- Power Floats
- Power of the Void
- Reality Warper
- Time Abyss
- You Cannot Grasp the True Form
- A Form You Are Comfortable With: Can assume a humanoid guise to keep from breaking the minds of mortals.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After her disguise is broken, she no longer has any need for Jonathan and attempts to dispose of him. In fact, while the party fights him, she just stands there and watches the two fight, not even lifting a finger just to spite him.
Knight Research and Affiliates
Juliana King
A wealthy socialite and financier, Juliana is an ally to a couple of the staff members of Power Academy. She is regarded with suspicion, however, due to her connections to various criminal enterprises and close relationship with Jonathan Knight—and in fact, she eventually ends up inheriting the company. In addition, she's also implied to be affiliated with Terminus' modern-day followers. In truth, Juliana IS Terminus—specifically, her human guise. See also Terminus' folder above.
- A Form You Are Comfortable With: So Terminus can avoid breaking people's minds.
- Affably Evil
- Anti-Villain: Subverted. She's evil through and through.
- Bad Samaritan
- Cool Shades: Never seen without a pair of reflective round shades, and she only removes them when she and Jonathan are alone. This helps hide Terminus' distinctive eyes.
- Four Eyes, Zero Soul
- Glamour Failure: Her eyes are what break her disguise.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive
- Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: In a relationship with Jonathan. Turns out to be a mutual case.
- Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette
- Friendly Enemy
- He Knows Too Much: Every villain she sends the party to take care of has some kind of evidence, or at least some kind of suspicion, hinting that she's actually Terminus. But when the heroes eventually find out about her true nature later on, she brushes it off, saying that she intended on a big reveal anyway.
- Humanoid Abomination: As Terminus.
- The Mole: She's working to undermine Jonathan's operations from within. The heroes suspect that she knows much more about his plans than she's letting on. In fact, Terminus never planned for their alliance to be permanent.
- Necessarily Evil: Uses her criminal contacts to aid the heroes from time to time. This is all a front to get the heroes to trust her, however.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue to Jonathan's Red.
- The Team Benefactor: She provides rewards for the party for completing story-relevant missions for her (a sidequest chain where the party is tasked with capturing or eliminating several minor villains, for instance). The targets all know too much, and they're just loose ends for Terminus to dispose of.
- Unholy Matrimony: With Jonathan.
- Uriah Gambit: In the past, she helped engineer the Superhuman Civil War in a bid to get the heroes to destroy each other.
- Villain with Good Publicity: She's much more subtle than Jonathan, at least.
- Walking Spoiler
- Wicked Cultured
Pamela Kyle
- Powers: Psychic; can project illusions via the mind
Formerly a geeky girl with a love of comics, Pamela was a loner (not helped by her psychic powers). After a freak accident and suffering a major head injury, she came to believe she was all three of the Gotham girls: Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn. Becoming a professional thief, she uses her powers to make people believe she is one of the villainesses she thinks she is. Jonathan hires her to perform a few missions for him, but she's only in it for the money.
- Classy Cat-Burglar
- Combat Stilettos
- Domino Mask
- Enigmatic Minion
- Evil Redhead
- Heel–Face Turn: Can be convinced by James to join the Academy as an employee under the right circumstances.
- Leotard of Power
- Master of Illusion: She can use her powers to interfere with people's minds, making them perceive her as one of the Gotham Girls. She uses this often during her thefts. And it works.
- Mind over Matter
- Ms. Fanservice: Especially since she often impersonates the Gotham Girls. The outfit helps as well.
- Nerds Are Sexy
- Obliviously Evil
- Only in It for the Money
- Prehensile Tail: Her costume includes a weighted devil tail used for improvised whip attacks.
- Rummage Sale Reject: Her costume is a leotard, boots and gloves patched together from pieces of the Gotham Girls' costumes.
- Split Personality: Depending on which villainess she's impersonating, she's anywhere from bubbly to seductive.
- Stripperiffic
- Tragic Villain
- Whole Costume Reference: To Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy.
The Church of Terminus
Jericho Mall
- Action Bomb: Upon his defeat.
- The Brute: Alongside Volker.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to James' Abel...or at least he tries to be.
- Defeat Equals Explosion
- Expy: Shares many similarities with Nitro, particularly in terms of his more explosive-based powers. Fitting, given their roles in their respective subsequent civil wars.
- Playing with Fire
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to the Arbiter's Blue.
- Taking You with Me
Andrew Volker
- An Arm and a Leg: He hacked off his right forearm and grafted a flamethrower onto it.
- Arm Cannon: The aforementioned flamethrower arm.
- Ax-Crazy
- Bayonet Ya: Has a bayonet attached to his flamethrower.
- The Brute: Alongside Jericho.
- Dumb Muscle: More "blindingly insane" than "dumb," but he fits nonetheless.
- Large Ham
- Last-Name Basis
- Laughing Mad
- Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant
- Playing with Fire: Given that his flamethrower is his main weapon.
- Psycho for Hire
- Pyromaniac: Enough to, it must be reiterated, graft a flamethrower onto his arm.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to the Arbiter's Blue.
- Serial Killer
- Vader Breath
The Shadow Court
The Shadow Daemon Lord
- Blue-and-Orange Morality: Whatever...it is, it cares little about Terminus. At the very least, they're not on the same side.
- Casting a Shadow
- Dark Is Evil
- Eldritch Abomination
- God of Evil: Complete with a cult that worships it.
- Time Abyss
- You Cannot Grasp the True Form: It appears as a formless mass of shadow energy that can shape itself at will.
Warpen Hardgreaves
One of the Academy's more malevolent students. Warpen is the son of Wardson Hardgreaves, head of the Shadow Court, and is being prepared to lead the organization. He viewed his adoptive sister Tala as more of an asset than part of the family. And when he comes to the Academy, he is instantly smitten with Val, often stalking her.
Trained in martial arts, equipped with a sword and skilled with his teleportation abilities, Warpen is a force to be reckoned with. Further fueling his powers is the fact that he's the vessel for the Shadow Daemon Lord, the deity worshipped by the Shadow Court.
- Arc Villain: During the Shadow Court sidequest chain in the game.
- Cool Sword: A custom-made sword modeled after an old-fashioned rapier.
- Dragon Ascendant: Takes over the Shadow Court after Wardson's death.
- Faux Affably Evil
- Forceful Kiss: He tries to kiss Val while the two are alone at one point, earning him a slap in the face (if she's in a romance with someone, she's much more resistant and the slap is much more immediate).
- I Have You Now, My Pretty: See above.
- Lone Wolf Boss: Not affiliated with Jonathan Knight or his allies, but a prominent villain in his own right.
- Love Makes You Stupid: To the point where, during his fight with the party, he's hesitant to attack if Val is present, and will go easy on her.
- Murder the Hypotenuse: If Val is romancing someone, Warpen makes it clear in his journal that he intends to kill them.
- No Sense of Personal Space: Around Val and Tala.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: For the Shadow Daemon Lord.
- Ship Mates: Invoked in-universe. He actively ships Isaac and Tala as a couple, believing it will help him and Val get closer together.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Essentially becomes Valsexual upon seeing her.
- Terms of Endangerment: Often refers to Val with affectionate names like "sweetheart" or "honeybuns". Even in a fight.
- Unholy Matrimony: With the Mirrorverse version of Val.
- Villainous Crush: He develops a huge crush on Val. This can work to the party's advantage if she's brought along for the fight with him.
Wardson Hardgreaves
Warpen and Tala's father (adoptive in the latter case), Wardson is the leader of the Shadow Court. Despite initial assumptions, he's not part of Jonathan's conspiracy, though his actions certainly benefit them.
- Abusive Parents: To Tala.
- Bald of Evil
- Casting a Shadow
- Corrupt Corporate Executive
- Dark Is Evil
- Hoist by His Own Petard: His death. At the end of his boss fight, James knocks him into the shadow vortex he summons, which ends up killing him.
- Omnicidal Maniac: Like father, like son.
- Parental Favoritism: He pretty blatantly favors Warpen over Tala.
- Villain with Good Publicity: His son Warpen twists stories about him to make him appear to be the hero.
The Iron Skulls
Garrett Phelps
The leader of Kragsmark's mafia organization, Garrett is essentially the city's de facto ruler thanks to how far his influence has spread. With all these supervillains coming into town, though, he realizes his time is coming to an end.
- Affably Evil: Always very serene and pleasant, unless someone deliberately angers him.
- Benevolent Boss: His minions look up to him with a high regard.
- Combat Pragmatist: In a fight, he doesn't bother with fancy moves or trickery; he just goes to straight-up shooting his enemies.
- End of an Era: He mentions his organization's way of life is dying.
- Even Evil Has Standards: He decries Jonathan's way of doing things, calling him reckless; Garrett is focused more on just making a profit than conquering the world.
- Graceful Loser: When the party confronts him, after fighting their way through his headquarters, he drops his gun and surrenders, recognizing that he doesn't stand a chance against them. The PC can still force his hand and challenge him to a fight anyway.
- Lean and Mean: Utterly emaciated and mean, more like.
- Living on Borrowed Time: He takes an experimental serum to hold his zombification back, but he knows it's just buying himself time at best.
- Nightmare Face: Due to his progressing zombification.
- Nonstandard Character Design: Especially since everyone else has a very Animesque look.
- Optional Boss: He's mostly a sidequest villain.
- Our Zombies Are Different: He's been infected with a zombie virus and takes a serum to hold it back, which explains why he's so emaciated (and why he covers his face).
- Pragmatic Villainy: He doesn't want to take over the world, he just wants to make money. Also, he chooses not to get involved with Jonathan Knight's conspiracy, not wanting to get backstabbed. He's right.
- Sharp-Dressed Man
- Starter Villain
Others
Fate (aka Amelia Kleiner)
- Anti-Villain
- Eldritch Abomination
- Evil Matriarch
- I Have Your Wife: She held Claire hostage for a time.
- Inspector Javert: She is more or less a guardian of time who is out to correct the imbalance caused by Terminus' presence. She's just after the wrong target—namely, the heroes.
- Reality Warper
- Til Murder Do Us Part: She killed her husband, Rudolph.
- Troll: She loves using her powers to screw with people's minds.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: It turns out she's trying to correct the time-space imbalance caused by Terminus' presence in the heroes' dimension.
A student at the Academy, Alistair is one of the more antagonistic people the PC encounters there. Having grown up surrounded by prejudice and hatred towards mutants and psychics, he has declared humankind to be worthless—though he could just as easily be using this as an excuse to wreak havoc.
He is a recurring boss throughout the game.
- An Arm and a Leg: Loses an arm in a fight against Helena midway through the game. While working for Vilhelm, he gets it replaced with a new cybernetic arm.
- Body Snatcher / Grand Theft Me: His primary psychic focus is hijacking other people's bodies.
- Commander Contrarian: It doesn't matter what you do or what choices you make—he will always find a reason to oppose you.
- Evil Counterpart: To the PC. Or, in the case of more antiheroic players, Eviler Counterpart.
- Evil Redhead
- Evil Gloating: He loves rubbing his enemy's failures and shortcomings in their faces.
- Fantastic Racism: He loathes Muggles, as a result of being ostracized for his psychic abilities throughout his life.
- Hypocrite: He accuses humanity of demonizing mutantkind and psychics alike and insists he's above them, but is perfectly willing to go on murderous rampages against those he deems responsible for their suffering—not helping to prove his point.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: His outfit has one sleeve torn off at the elbow.
- From Nobody to Nightmare
- Hate Sink: He is 100% intentionally unsympathetic.
- Jerkass: As his trolling tendencies show.
- Kill and Replace: Attempts this with Simon, and ends up failing.
- Lone Wolf Boss: Initially, he works with Jonathan Knight, but ends up being an independent recurring antagonist.
- Psychic Powers
- Recurring Boss: Of the Blood Knight variety. Fought several times throughout the main story.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Lucia's Blue.
- Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Loves mocking heroes who lean towards the idealistic side of things—as well as ones who lean towards cynicism. Because he can.
- Deconstructed, in that this attitude only solidifies his antagonism towards the world and drives people away; this is lampshaded by the party.
- Smug Snake
- The Social Darwinist: Believes Muggles to be a plague on the earth and an obstacle for mutantkind.
- Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred!: In his final fight with the party, he tries to taunt them into killing him.
- Super-Soldier: Originally intended as one.
The Mirrorverse
- Death by Irony: At the end of their fight, Val has cornered her evil self, asking her to yield. In one last act of defiance, the evil Val summons a storm of ice shards to impale Val from behind...only to have her dodge the spikes, thus mortally wounding herself.
- Evil Is Deathly Cold: Emits an aura of cold air wherever she walks.
- God Save Us from the Queen!: Played with; though she has declared herself royalty, she sticks with the "Princess" title because she feels like it. The heroic Val calls her out on this, mentioning her use of the title among her atrocities.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: See above.
- Stripperiffic: She apparently doesn't get cold.
- The Dark Side Will Make You Forget
- The Dragon: To the evil Valerie.
- Dragon Ascendant: Takes over for her after her inadvertent death.
- Drunk on the Dark Side: He absolutely revels in having the full power of the gauntlets unlocked.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The Shadow Lord.
- Not the Fall That Kills You…: After his fight, he and Simon have a freefall fight after crashing through a skylight. The evil one ends up hitting the ground hard; he lives long enough to taunt the party.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning / Black Eyes of Evil: Has both—completely black eyes aside from bright red irises. This hints that he's the result of Terminus' influence.
- Shadow Archetype: To his heroic self; he represents the dark path Simon could take if he relies too heavily on the gauntlets. After his defeat, in fact, Simon permanently swears off using the gauntlets, fearful of what he could become.
- Delinquent Hair: Sports a short mohawk.
- Not in This for Your Revolution: She's only in it for the paycheck.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Regardless of their evil acts, she and Emperor Talan genuinely love each other.
- Obliviously Evil: She doesn't seem to realize that many of her actions are evil.
