Protagonist

     Ling Mo

Or I used to be...
  • Action Survivor: When the Zombie Apocalypse happened, he had no fighting skills or training. It was just sheer luck that he didn't become a zombie himself.
  • Crazy Sane: He'd be in an institution for his Lack of Empathy, at a minimum, if it were not for the fact that the Zombie Apocalypse has taken out all the hospitals and sanitariums.
  • Find the Cure!: His overarching goal is to restore his girlfriends to full consciousness, and hunting zombies for their gels is the only method he's found that works.
  • Handsome Lech: He does perv-out regarding his girlfriends, or pretty much any pretty girl.
  • Harem Seeker: He sought out both Ye Lian and Shana, and took control of them to try and restore their consciousness, and he views them as de-facto wives. Considering that they will immediately become ravenous zombies, driven entirely by instinct, if he loses control, he is very, very choosy about who he adds to his harem.
  • Has a Type: He apparently prefers women with long, flowing hair.
  • I Gave My Word: One of his few remaining virtues is that he keeps his promises to the best of his ability. Of course, if you break your end of the bargain first or deliberately antagonize him, don't blame him for being impolite.
  • In the Hood: Wears a hoodie.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: The story takes place in an Apocalypse Anarchy. Sitting around waiting for rescue makes you a burden, at best. Might Makes Right is the law of the land. Everybody is looting stores and shops for tools, weapons, and supplies, so saying "that came from my shop, it's mine" isn't going to do you any favors, and trying to enforce your claim with violence is going to have that violence come back at you.
  • Judge, Jury, and Executioner: He has absolutely no hesitation to carry out horrific punishment on people he deems don't deserve to live.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: He gives zombie Ye Lian his Sacred First Kiss when she was "evolving" for the first time, and the backlash caused him to succumb to her latent desires, not to mention that he felt as if he was turning into a zombie.
  • Lack of Empathy: Which even bothers him on occasion. Using his ability to control zombies has flooded his mind with their murderous instincts, having little pity for those who find themselves being Eaten Alive by zombies, or anyone not in his inner circle.
  • Leaked Experience: Exploited. The stronger he makes his girlfriends, by feeding them zombie "viral gel", the stronger he gets too.
  • Logical Weakness: He has several. First, his Psychic Link goes both ways, feeding the zombie's instincts and desires into his brain, violently, in return for controlling them, and second, when feeding his girlfriends zombie gels, there is a brief time where he has to struggle to maintain control as they power-up. There is also a limit to how many zombies he can safely control at once. There is also a very short range for his powers. His relationship with his girlfriends is hardly stable, as a direct result of all the above.
  • Morality Chain: He's the reason his girlfriends have any consciousness or agency. Without his Psychic Link, they'd be ravenous zombies acting purely on instinct. Later chapters show that this goes both ways. Without his girlfriends, it was only a matter of time before his ability makes him go "zombie."
  • Not Me This Time: When Lin runs over to Ling Mo's girlfriends to plead for mercy towards Shi Bin for the last time, after she realizes he snuck out of their shared bedroom and had murderous intentions towards Ling Mo. Ling Mo approaches her and reveals he's dead, but admits that he genuinely had nothing to do with it, believe it or not.
  • Ordinary Highschool Student: What he used to be, despite dating a university girl, who happened to be the School Idol.
  • Power Perversion Potential: He has used his Psychic Link with Zombies to perv-out on girls. He even used Ye Lian to do erotic stuff to Shana, when she was still human. Shana liked it.
  • Psychic Link: How he controls zombies. He sends fragments of his consciousness into them to control their actions, even calling them puppets. Unfortunately, this link goes both ways, and he gets blasted by their emotions and instincts.
  • Punchclock Hero: Combined with Sociopathic Hero. He's less than entirely sane, having been strongly influenced by the raw primal desires of zombies. If helping you helps his survival, and his mission to restore the consciousness of his girlfriends, he will fight for you through thick and thin. If helping you is not in his interests, you're on your own, at best.
  • Sanity Slippage: The longer he's using his Psychic Link to keep a handle on his zombie Battle Harem, the less sane he becomes. He's well aware of this but has no other viable options.
  • Shoot the Dog: He won't hesitate to send a zombie puppet at a False Friend, if said "friend" happens to be a threat to someone he likes, even if the guy hasn't actually done anything bad, yet.
  • Superpower Lottery: A winner, seeing as not only is his ability to control zombies a huge asset during a Zombie Apocalypse, but out of thousands of survivors, there are, as of this update, only a handful of documented ability holders.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Starts the story as an Ordinary Highschool Student. Becomes the leader of a powerful Battle Harem, with each and every member being a one-man or one-woman army.
  • Tranquil Fury: To date, he never loses his cool when he gets angry. He tends to go eerily quiet and then take down who ever irritates him in the blink of an eye.
  • Wild Card: Help him with his survival, and/or his goal of getting his girlfriends' consciousness back, or even be against people who anger him, you've got a powerful ally. Hinder him, and pray to whatever god(s) you believe in to have him see you as insignificant, because if he has to deal with you, you've dug your own grave, if you're lucky.
  • Worst Aid: He does treat Lin's wound, albeit lacking proper medical supplies and knowledge. So yeah, he has to flush it out with alcohol and then stitch it together with medical thread, but no anesthetics. YEEOWCH! At least he does manage to stop the bleeding and save her arm, so there is that.

Girlfriends

     In common
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: They get drunk very easily. Fortunately, they sober up quickly too.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: If you're not in the harem, they don't want to share.
  • Deus Sex Machina: They power-up Ling Mo by doing erotic stuff with him.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The way they respond to being fed zombie gels is quite suggestive.
  • Exotic Weapon Supremacy: After the Mid-Season Upgrade, they all use rather niche weapons. Shana uses a scythe, Ye Lian uses gloves with steel-tipped claws, and Li Yalin uses a pair of chinese weapons known as "Tiger Fangs."
  • Happiness in Mind Control: They are very, very happy being controlled by Ling Mo. It's the only way they have any agency to act, at all. Shana even states, unprompted, that she likes it this way, and would prefer not having to go back to how she was as a human.
  • Hates Being Touched: Being touched by anyone they don't recognize as a comrade causes them to be enraged and lash out, breaking out of Ling Mo's control, or trying to.
  • Lady of War: Beautiful, elegant, and absolutely deadly.
  • Morality Chain: Combined with Morality Pet. The three of them are people Ling Mo will always dote on, come hell or high water. The fact that they have romantic feelings for him is also shown to be the only thing that kept him from going full-tilt zombie due to his Psychic Link ability.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When their eyes turn red, run. Either they're about to rampage, or Ling Mo's losing control, or both.
  • Romantic Spoonfeeding: How they prefer to be fed zombie gels. In fact, Shana is on-screen going "say ahh" to Ye Lian.

     Ye Lian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ye_lian.jpg
ROAR!!
Ling Mo's first girlfriend, before and after the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She is the sweetest, most innocent, and most docile girl in Ling Mo's harem. She is also the most dangerous, by far. While the others retain their sanity and ability to reason for some time if the psychic link is broken, she will instantly default into an Axe-Crazy state and attack anyone and anything within her reach. Even Ling Mo is not safe.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: When her eyes are not red, they're the same color as her hair.
  • Cute Mute: After becoming a zombie, she can't talk, and is breathtakingly beautiful... Though she does eventually regain her ability to speak.
  • Friendly Sniper: In the 200+ chapters, she gets her hands on an anti-materiel sniper rifle, taking it from the cold-dead hands of a rogue military company operative who was trying to kill Ling Mo. She proceeds to happily gun down tanks by shooting them in their gas cans, but remains the sweet and bubbly girl Ling Mo loves most.
  • Harbinger of Impending Doom: In a flashback, Ling Mo is speaking to her on a phone-call, where she was riding the bus to his place, as she was bringing over groceries to cook for their date, then she screams out "Ling Mo, RUN!" These are the last words she ever said before becoming a zombie, and losing her ability to speak.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: If she's equipped with any projectile weapon, she will always hit what she's aiming at. Even she doesn't understand how she does it. She just responds "I wanted to hit it, so I did."
  • The Ingenue: She truly doesn't understand it when Shana has her do erotic stuff, like french kissing, groping, or even full on lesbian sex!
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Even before Ling Mo took control of her, she was a deadly fighter, and Ling Mo is fond of dressing her in fancy gowns and dresses.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Equally deadly with a dagger or her bare hands.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: She's well aware of her nature when she's not under Ling Mo's control and still begs to stay by his side.
  • Razor-Sharp Hand: As a zombie, her claws can stab through a skull like a sword.
  • School Idol: Called "the school belle" of University X.

     Shana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shana_48.jpg
This is fun!
  • Abomination Accusation Attack: The very first thing she says when regaining partial consciousness as Ling Mo's girlfriend? Accusing him of being a total pervert, and molesting her, using helping her shower as a cover. Ling Mo is stunned on hearing it.
  • Ambiguously Bi: As a human, she liked it when Ye Lian felt her up and stripped her. As Ling Mo's girlfriend, she's clearly attracted to Ling Mo, and loves to "prank" Ye Lian by getting her to do all sorts of erotic stuff for her own benefit.
  • Ambiguous Disorder: Ling Mo states that she shows signs of schizophrenia, but he's neither a psychologist nor psychiatrist.
  • Amnesiac Hero: As a zombie girlfriend, most of her memories prior to turning are ... misplaced.
  • Blood Knight: As a human, she cut down zombies for fun. The fact that she was protecting a shelter of survivors was a fringe benefit.
  • Catgirl: As a zombie girlfriend, Ling Mo loves to dress her up in cat-ears and a sleek black-dress.
  • Eye Color Change: Her eyes change from gold to red and back again depending on her mood, even before she became a zombie.
  • The Gadfly: Loves to tease Ling Mo, just to get a reaction.
  • Heroic BSoD: After killing the rest of her class, in self-defense, she completely shut down, not even noticing the mutant zombie attacking her. It's only because said zombie attacked another student that she snapped out of it.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: She's unbelievably horny and will try to seduce Ling Mo, Ye Lian, or both, any and every opportunity! When Li Yalin joins the crew, she likes to sex her up too!
  • Master Swordsman: She's an expert at handling swords.
  • One Degree of Separation: She's Wang Lin's cousin.
  • Sinister Scythe: She's great with a sword, but she's even better with a scythe. When her sword breaks while fighting a zombie lord, she picks up a scythe at her home estate, and demonstrates how skilled she is by throwing up a handful of throwing knives and shredding them to pieces before they hit the ground.
  • Serious Business: Her ancestral sword is so precious to her, even at her most amnesiac, Ling Mo couldn't take it back from her, not even when he had her completely under his control.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She loves to flaunt her body, and that of the other girlfriends, at every opportunity, even if she has to invent an excuse.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Upon managing to return to her alma-matter, and finding the people she set out to rescue had turned to cannibalism, rather than even try to gather supplies for themselves, and still demanded she help them, coming at her with lethal force for refusing, she calls them worse than zombies and cuts them down, without hesitation or remorse.

     Li Yalin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/li_yalin.jpg
I..know you.
The third (and most powerful) of Ling Mo's girlfriends.
  • Badass Abnormal: After being bitten by a zombie snake, the venom fuses with her system, making her even deadlier by giving her several snake-powers.
  • Expy: Word of God states that she mutated from the bite of a zombie snake the same way Spiderman mutated from a spider bite.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Introduced with eyes that glowed green.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde and a good woman, even after being turned.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: Implied. Out of all the guys she could have remembered after turning, she remembers Ling Mo, because he's the only one who didn't swoon for her when she walked by. In fact, she treasured a picture, simply because he happened to be in the background.
  • Indifferent Beauty: Prior to the Zombie Apocalypse, she was smoking hot, and knew it, but didn't care.
  • It Can Think: Unlike all the other zombies beforehand, she can reason, lay traps, and formulate both strategies and tactics, even leading Ling Mo along by laying down a trail of instant ramen packets, before he tried to control her. After, his hold is the most tenuous.
  • Last Girl Wins: The third of the introduced girlfriends and the one who takes Ling Mo's virginity.
  • Megaton Punch: She can punch holes in concrete... with her fingers.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: She finds the outfit shown in the page image very uncomfortable and hard to walk in, especially since she had to be "shaved" to fit in it...
  • School Idol: Even more than Ye Lian. While Ye Lian was a quiet beauty, Li Yalin would kick up a storm simply walking by, and often held concerts, dancing to popular band's music, to sold out performances!
  • Sensing You Are Outmatched: She shows no hesitation in fighting Ling Mo, Ye Lian, or Shana, one on one, but when outnumbered, she bails, if she can.

Highschool 3 survivors:

     Lu Xin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lu_xin.jpg
Ling Mo isn't worthy to suck my dick!
One of Shana's classmates.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Being splashed with the mutant zombie's blood had him turn, but he managed to hold on to his consciousness. He gave in to his base urges as a result.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: "I will never let you go even if I die, Hahahaha!"
  • Entitled Bastard: Believed that he's entitled to food, shelter, and protection, especially from Shana. He resents even having to pick up a weapon to try and defend himself, or do anything on his own behalf.
  • Entitled to Have You: To Shana, even prior to the Zombie Apocalypse, he pursued Shana, and refused to heed her saying "no."
  • The Farmer and the Viper: How does he respond to Shana sparing him when he has a very narrow escape from a powerful mutant zombie? He kidnaps her and deliberately turns her, For the Evulz.
  • It's All About Me: Honestly believes the world revolves around him.
  • Miles Gloriosus: Believes and boasts he's a better man than Ling Mo, on all points, even when it's clear as day that he's not.
  • Money Is Not Power: Before the zombie outbreak, he genuinely believed he could buy anything he wanted with his family's wealth, including Shana's affection. After the outbreak, his money's completely meaningless, and he resents it.
  • Never My Fault: The fact that he got into a near-fatal fight with a mutant zombie way above his level, got a classmate killed, and got splashed with zombie blood while Ling Mo was fighting? All Ling Mo's fault for "abandoning" him and failing to protect him properly.
  • Off with His Head!: How he dies.
  • Revenge by Proxy: How does he spite Ling Mo? Grabbing Shana, deliberately infecting her with The Virus, and then hiding her away to watch her turn, taunting Ling Mo that his evil will go on even if he dies.
  • Straw Misogynist: Thinks all women are vastly inferior creatures. Insulting Ye Lian got him a slap.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Coming from a rich family has made him completely insufferable.

     Wang Chen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wang_chen.jpg
Lu Xin, you are a total moron!
Another of the classmates Shana was protecting.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: All nice when there are witnesses, vicious when there aren't.
  • Dirty Coward: His "survival strategy" is mooching off others, discarding them and running away when there's any danger to himself.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Wears glasses and is a total asshole who happily throws his classmates into a zombie's jaws to save himself.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He tells Lu Xin that antagonizing Ling Mo and Shana is a terrible idea when the group is entirely dependent on them for survival. Lu Xin is stubbornly unmoved. He also tells Lu Xin that Shana never liked him, and her affection could not be bought, even before the zombie outbreak, but Lu Xin doesn't believe that last part.
  • Traitor Shot: Immediately after being rescued by Shana from a classmate who came at him with a knife, due to rightly suspecting that he was sacrificing them to save himself, he's illustrated scowling behind Shana's back. Ling Mo picks up on it.
  • Uncertain Doom: In the webcomic, he is last seen in a room, unconscious, with a zombie, recently free from Ling Mo's control, staring over him.
  • We Have Reserves: Throws his classmates and allies into zombies to save himself, without hesitation or remorse.

     Teacher Wang
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teacher_wang.jpg
I will do anything! Please spare me!
Shana's teacher.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When he found himself at Shana's mercy, escape impossible, he begged for his life. It was too little, too late, at this point.
  • Broken Pedestal: Shana thought the world of him, until she came to his rescue and saw him and a few others going full tilt cannibal on what remains of her class. Then he orders said cannibals to attack her when she tried to walk away.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Ordering the death of Shana, a Blood Knight Master Swordsman, who is way, way stronger than you for choosing to leave you to your own devices, after she confirmed that you turned to cannibalism, in less than three days after she left, trying to find help, and whom you were dependent on? Yeah, that's not going to go well.
  • Entitled Bastard: Fully expected Shana to continue helping and supporting him and the rest, despite the fact that he went full cannibal, without even trying other options first.
  • Off with His Head!: How he dies.
  • Please, I Will Do Anything!: While begging for his life, he promised to do whatever Shana wanted if she'd spare him. She was in no forgiving mood.
  • Villains Want Mercy: When he found himself on the wrong end of Shana's rage, escape impossible, he begged for his life. It didn't help.

Song Tian's gang

     Song Tian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/song_tian.jpg
Fresh blood, great!
Leader of a well-organized shelter of survivors, and the first hope that humanity can recover.
  • Big Fun: Is a bit overweight and a very jovial person.
  • Morality Chain: Tries to keep Wang Lin reined in. He's less than entirely successful.
  • Old Soldier: Middle-aged and dressed in fatigues.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Was willing to let Wang Lin's knife go as an apology for his men ruining Shana's shelter by dragging zombies through it.
  • Scars Are Forever: Has a scar over one of his eyes. Its significance is unclear.

     Wang Lin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wang_lin.jpg
Thief! You stole my favorite dagger! Die!
Daughter of a weapon's shop owner.
  • Attention Whore: Threw a fit that Shana didn't immediately rush over and glomp her. In her defense, she didn't know Shana was zombified and amnesiac.
  • Battle Aura: When she gets angry, she manifests an aura of "flames."
  • Butt-Monkey: Literally. In addition to many off-screen hardships and humiliations, she has been repeatedly spanked by Ling Mo's zombie puppets, had glass shrapnel painfully imbed itself in her butt, having to be pulled out with pliers, and became an object of derision for her new group after being separated from Song Tian's when she got a broken ankle fleeing from a zombie horde as the rest of the gang was leaving the city.
  • Childhood Friends: With Ling Mo, but said friendship was exceptionally shallow.
  • Entitled Bitch: Demanded "her" knife back from Ling Mo, without compensation, simply because she helped forge it. She conveniently ignores the fact that she abandoned said knife in an easy to find location, in a store, and everybody, including herself, are looting stores to survive. Heck, even the fact that Ling Mo killed the mutant zombie in her store at grave personal risk, which then made the rest of the weapons available to her gang, deserved some reward.
  • In the Hood: Wears a cat-eared hoodie.
  • Last-Second Chance: Ling Mo spares her, for Shana's sake, despite very much wanting to kill her, which Shana picks up on. She comes after him again, for any reason, and he will kill her.
  • One Degree of Separation: Shana's cousin, which even the zombie Shana recognized on some small level.
  • Oral Fixation: Rarely shows up in a scene without sticking a lollipop or other object in her mouth.
  • Rape as Drama: As a "lesson," Ling Mo used zombie puppets to pin her to the ground, engage in a bit of Kinky Spanking and then implicitly threaten her with rape, so she'd be too traumatized to try and hunt him down, ever again.
  • Recognition Failure: Despite having grown up alongside Ling Mo, and played with him, she didn't recognize him, at all, when he came to her weapon shop, to investigate for proper weaponry he needs to defend himself, angrily cursing him when he walked out with "her" dagger.
  • Scarily Competent Tracker: Her ability "interaction." She can track anyone or anything she touches, for a certain amount of time.
  • Skewed Priorities: Her obsession with the dagger she forged had her drag several members of her gang into danger, just to hunt down Ling Mo, to try and kill him for it.
  • Superpower Lottery: Like Ling Mo, she doesn't know how she got her skill.
  • Too Dumb to Live: She encounters zombies that are acting strangely, and using tactics, taking away her supporting party members, person by person. Rather than heeding her instincts to retreat and seek help, she goes full-tilt Leeroy Jenkins, chasing one of them who flipped her off. If this wasn't a trap set by Ling Mo, her fate would not have been kind, and even then she was skating on thin ice the whole time.

     Li Yu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/li_yu.jpg
Didn't know you were there. Sorry about that.
The soldier who introduces Ling Mo and Shana's gang to Song Tian's.
  • Bit Character: Rarely shows up and his role is small.
  • Just Following Orders: He really didn't want to go on Wang Lin's suicidal hunt for Ling Mo, over a petty grudge, but she used her authority in the gang to compel him.
  • Scars Are Forever: Has a scar on his cheek. Its significance is unclear.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His actions have a major impact on the plot, introducing Ling Mo to Wang Lin, moving the survivors to Song Tian's gang, where they can be more useful, and unwittingly dragging zombies to Shana's gang in the first place.
  • Uncertain Doom: In the webcomic, he is last seen unconscious in a room, a few of Ling Mo's mind-controlled zombies watching over him.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While fleeing from The Horde, he unwittingly drags them into the shelter where Ling Mo and company were, as Shana was recuperating from being turned.

     Liu Zonghao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liu_zonghao.jpg
Ah. This water's so refreshing, Bro Ling!
Shana's partner before meeting Ling Mo.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Calling out to Ling Mo for help drew a swarm of zombies on everyone.
  • Hero Worship: Can't stop singing Ling's praises.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He bends over backwards to please Shana, and it's obvious he cares for her a great deal. She's not interested, at all.
  • Ideal Hero: Contrary to Ling Mo, he helps people because it's the right thing to do, not because he'll profit from it. Ling Mo is genuinely impressed, and secretly helps him.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: When Shana began to turn, and Ling Mo took control of her, he gave Ling Mo his blessings, wishing for her happiness. Ling Mo was genuinely moved.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Shana.
  • Number Two: To Shana in their shelter at the time.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When Ling Mo congratulates him on working hard for Shana, even recovering her favorite sword from a zombie nest, he panics and states that they're Just Friends, and Shana does not like him "that way", at all, unprompted.
  • We Will Meet Again: Before Ling took off with Shana in tow to Find the Cure!, Liu states that he hopes they meet again. Ling finds it unlikely, but smiles and waves back.

University X survivors.

     Lin Luanqiu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lin_luanqiu.jpg
Eh-hem. Shi, don't go too far!
  • Bullet Time: Her ability.
  • Find the Cure!: She tags along with Ling Mo so they can raid the University X pharmacy for the medicine she needs.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Seeing she was vastly outclassed by Ling Mo, she knuckled under, to Shi Bin's constant annoyance.
  • Nice Girl: Very sweet and kind.
  • Only Sane Woman: Smart and level headed, while her partner Shi Bin is a total hothead.
  • Secret Stab Wound: The reason she's so ill is that she's got a grievous wound on her arm, but there's no doctors that can tend to it, so it got gangrenous.
  • Strong Girl, Smart Guy: Inverted. She's the smart girl to Shi Bin's strong guy.
  • Superpower Lottery: A winner. Her skill makes her a near-perfect ambush predator. If only she wasn't ill...

     Shi Bin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shi_bin.jpg
Gonna control me with that too?
Lin Luanqiu's bodyguard.
  • Can Not Keep A Secret: Even when he keeps his mouth shut, his body language gives away what he's trying to hide.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Attacks with chili powder to the eyes and then stabs at his target with a sharpened file, covered in zombie blood. Ling Mo admires such a dangerous combination to use against human targets.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: With Lin being immobile, a group of strangers moving into his shelter is a threat, especially as he has bad experiences with bandits before.
  • Dumb Muscle: Fighting is all he's good at, and even that is questionable. He's too stupid for anything else.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Is horrified at being killed by his old class friend, Xu Cai.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Attacks Ling Mo, confusing him for a bandit, and resents him for his own inadequacies, but cozies up with Xu Cai, who is a much, much worse person. It gets him killed.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Meets his end getting stabbed with a sharpened pipe.
  • I Owe You My Life: To Lin. Without her knowledge and assistance, he would have died long ago, but he's so stupid, his loyalty actually does her more harm than good.
  • Miles Gloriosus: Loves to brag about "his" martial accomplishments, when in fact, they were done by others.
  • The Resenter: Resents Ling Mo, not just for smacking him around, after he attacked first, but getting the attention of Lin Luanqiu, and making him feel totally inadequate.
  • They Just Dont Get It: No matter how Lin told him not to go and provoke Ling Mo, he just couldn't help himself, even trying to stab Ling in the middle of the night with his zombie coated file. Fortunately, he realizes that Ling's Battle Harem wouldn't have taken kindly to that.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Not only does he give away a lot of secret information to others, when trust is a very scarce commodity, but goes to meet an "old school friend" alone. It gets him killed with a sharpened pipe shoved into his stomach.

     Xu Cai
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xu_cai.jpg
Shi Bin, you wouldn't forget me, right, old buddy?
Shi Bin's classmate and (former) best friend.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Quickly turns into a zombie after licking Shi Bin's zombie blood covered file and getting stabbed with it by Ling Mo.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Get his entire right arm sliced in half, from fingers to shoulder, by Ling Mo.
  • The Corrupter: Convinces the entire male population of his group of survivors to gang-rape a girl to death, by denying them food when they're already on the brink of starving to death, if they don't comply.
  • Dying as Yourself: Denied. He begs Ling Mo to kill him before he becomes a zombie. Ling Mo responds by saying death is not going to come easy for him.
  • Evil Former Friend: Before the Zombie Apocalypse, he was Shi Bin's friend. After, he's a thug who happily browbeats the male members of his group of survivors to gang-rape a female survivor to death, both to enforce his will and for kicks.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Ling Mo turned him into a zombie rather than kill him, after he had threatened to rape Ling Mo's girlfriends.
  • For the Evulz: Has one of his female classmates gang-raped to death, not just to stop her from asking inconvenient questions, but to cow the rest of the group by telling them they've crossed the moral event horizon, and for his own sadistic pleasure.
  • Hypocrite: "Stop dodging, coward!" Says the man who uses his classmates as bait to steal food from zombie filled areas, which he then uses to browbeat the rest of his class into doing whatever he tells them to, no matter how vile.
  • I Can Not Self Terminate: When he realized he was turning into a zombie, he begs Ling Mo to kill him first.
  • I'll Kill You!: He repeatedly threatens to kill Ling Mo when the latter stumbled unto his evil scheme.
  • Never My Fault: When Ling Mo tells him he's turning into a zombie and death's too good for him, he retorts "Why are you doing this to me?" After he had threatened to rape Ling Mo's girlfriends over Ling Mo's grave!
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: To force the rest of his group into going I've Come Too Far, he has them gang-rape a girl to death.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Licking weapons as a show of bravado in a setting with a Zombie Apocalypse is a monumentally bone-headed idea. It turns his blood purple...
  • Underestimating Badassery: Thought Ling Mo was a Squishy Wizard bad at close combat, so comes at him with a sharpened file. Suffers a Fate Worse than Death in response.
  • We Have Reserves: Whenever he goes scouting for food and other supplies, he takes a few classmates with him to use as bait, and then abandons them to The Horde, in exchange for only a few days worth of food for the class.

     Professor Luo

Never seen you around before!
The teacher watching over the class of survivors including Xu Cai.
  • Apathetic Teacher: When a female student cried out to him for help because she was being gang-raped with a Zombie Apocalypse right outside, he doesn't just ignore her pleas, he actively participates in the raping. He isn't even bothered by it when she winds up dead.
  • Dying as Yourself: Begs to be killed rather than turned into a zombie by a turned Xu Cai. Being controlled by Ling Mo, who saw his surrender, his request was granted.
  • Evil Old Folks: Elderly professor, willing rapist.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Wears glasses and isn't bothered by a female student being gang-raped to death, right in front of him. In fact, he happily partakes in said raping.
  • Lack of Empathy: Doesn't give a damn about a female student being gang-raped to death.
  • Skewed Priorities: When he sees human survivors, he's more concerned about which university department they're from than who they are, or what they've been through.

Guo Chao's group. Listed in order of appearance.

     Yang Jang Yu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yang_jang_yu.jpg
Yeah, glad they kept their word or we'd be dead.
The one Ling Mo and crew found standing guard in Shana's estate.
  • Flat Character: Sadly, he doesn't get much in the way of characterization.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: He confronts Shana, Ye Lin, and Ling Mo when he catches them investigating Shana's estate. He knuckles under in a hurry when Shana grabs the crossbow he's holding and yells "MINE!" faster than he can blink

     Xiao Lan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xiao_lan.jpg
So he's not bad after all?
A small girl who ran out and confronted Ling Mo to "rescue" Yang Jang.
  • Children Are Innocent: And Jiayu is trying to keep it that way, with mixed success.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's frequently tripping over her own feet.
  • The Load: She can't fight, at all, and has to be constantly protected. Not her fault, she's a normal human with an age in the single digits.

     Meng Jiayu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meng_jiayu.jpg
Hello, sisters-in-law. Thanks for taking care of my brother.
Ling Mo's cousin.
  • Crazy-Prepared: She made and holds backup of all Guo Chao's plans and maps. Good thing too...
  • Insistent Terminology: Despite being Ling Mo's cousin, she insists on calling herself his "big sister" and having him address her that way.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Her creed. She isn't usually successful.
  • Number Two: She's second in command of the group.

     Guo Chao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/guo_chao.jpg
Damn that Ling Mo, he'll steal away everything I've spet so much time and effort building up!
The Leader.
  • Accidental Hero: When the zombie puppet master starts chowing down on him, he reaches for his gun and manages to fire off some shots. This tips off Ling Mo and the rest, who quickly descend on the location, earning himself a hero's funeral. In reality, he was just looking for a place to hide, waiting for Ling Mo to go off and "stupidly" get killed hunting down the puppet master.
  • Death by Pragmatism: When Ling Mo and a few others from his team go after the zombie puppet master, he goes to hide in a quiet corner. Unfortunately, that quiet corner happens to be where the puppet master is hiding. Nom, Nom, nom...
  • Eaten Alive: Desperate for achievements or simply to get rid of Ling Mo, he stumbles into the zombie puppet master's lair, and gets attacked, eaten to death.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: He put together a good team of people and treated them with care, but when Ling Mo showed up and started to outshine him, he became overcome with jealousy and hatred, believing that Ling Mo was going to steal away his followers. This lead to his own death.

ROAR!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_moon_02.jpg
Human! Want her! (Points at Ye Lian) Need spouse!
The first Zombie Leader Ling Mo encounters.
  • Bad Boss: She abuses her puppets and underlings.
  • Entitled to Have You: To Ye Lian, and she won't take "no" for an answer.
  • Femme Fatalons: She has incredibly sharp and strong finger-nails.
  • Hearing Voices: As of the most recent updates, she "smelled" some kind of special zombie and starts getting migraine inducing voices in her head.
  • Hulk Speak: Speaks like this, at first. As time passes, her vocabulary and grammar improves and becomes more coherent.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Ling Mo thinks this tomboy is a guy until her jacket is accidentally opened.
  • Marionette Master: As a Zombie Leader, she can control lower ranked zombies and make them do their will, whether the zombie was originally human or animal.
  • Moral Myopia: She repeatedly comes at Ling Mo with claws, trying to murder him, but he retaliates by splashing her with zombie snake venom, and he's the unforgivable one.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: She thinks Ye Lian will happily follow her if she just kills off Ling Mo.
  • Recurring Boss: When she thinks she's got Ling Mo and the others cornered, she swoops in and engages hit and run tactics. Ling Mo never pursues because he sees her as way too dangerous to chase down, as she can evade or escape his Psychic Link with ease.
  • Smarter Than They Look: When first introduced, she just grunted and spoke in Hulk Speak, but she's highly intelligent and can formulate very dangerous and effective tactics.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She's so tomboyish that it's easy to mistake her for a guy, but she wears really cutesy undergarments.

     Hu Chuhan

Stay back! I'm not wrong! I Just Want to Be Normal! I don' want to die!
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Eating human flesh quickly restores his body.
  • For Want Of A Nail: His ability is almost identical to Ling Mo's, but because he didn't have a zombie girlfriend that could help stabilize him, he started Slowly Slipping Into Evil, eventually turning on and killing all his fellow soldiers, one by one.
  • Horror Hunger: His ability not only put his consciousness into zombies, but put their instincts into him. Slowly, but surely, this made him hunger for human flesh and blood, eventually turning on and consuming his team-mates, turning them into zombies under his control.
  • Marionette Master: His control over zombies is so profound, that they can engage in tactics, use firearms, and even speak on his behalf.
  • Never My Fault: His final moments, fleeing his guilt and certain death, he spends screaming that he did nothing wrong.
  • Please, I Will Do Anything!: The moment he sensed Ling Mo and the Battle Harem, he desperately pleaded for aid to regain his humanity. Unfortunately, there was nothing Ling Mo could do as it was far, far too late. He responds to that by declaring war and trying to exterminate Ling Mo and everyone with him.
  • Slowly Slipping Into Evil: His final flashback shows that he was a good soldier who used his powers over zombies to help his fellow soldiers fight the Zombie Apocalypse, but slowly and surely he started becoming more and more a zombie himself until he lost control entirely.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: He spends his last moments flashing back to the time he was an army soldier and slowly but surely losing control of his power, going zombie in the process.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Ling Mo used his ability to enhance this guy's fear, guilt, and hunger induced hallucinations to the point that when he hallucinated that his dead former soldiers returned from the grave, seeking vengeance, he dies when his hallucinations start chowing down on him.

     Zhao Zhi's prototype super-zombie.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/42_37.jpg
Cut tentacle... Unforgivable!
  • Animal Motif: She's got a strong spider theme going.
  • Chained by Fashion: She wears bracelet and anklets designed to hold chains.
  • Combat Tentacles: For mid and long range attacks, she whips around these thin, red tentacles that have surprisingly immense tensile strength and can be used to infect human survivors.
  • Evil Evolves: As she fights, consuming people and zombies, she "evolves" and her body changes.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: She has a long sleeve on one side, almost bare arm on the other.
  • Hulk Speak: When she does speak, it is in this manner.
  • Implacable Woman: No obstacle will stop her. At best, it will only slow her down. Even if that "obstacle" is concentrated weapons' fire.
  • Mystical White Hair: Her long, flowing hair is white to showcase that she's not a regular, run-of-the-mill zombie.
  • No Name Given: She doesn't have a name.
  • Only Mostly Dead: After a very long, hard fight, where even a One-Winged Angel Zhao Zhi took part against her, Ling Mo manages to cut her down, in the split second that she was distracted dealing with Zhao Zhi, whom she killed. As Stella was securing the corpse and collecting blood samples, she bites Stella's neck, infecting her and making her the new Spider Queen and then died for real.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Once she's aware of your existence, she doesn't stop hunting you until you are dead. She will carve her way trough whatever obstacle she has to.

Research Facility

     Zhao Zhi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1_44.jpg
Hahaha! You will all help me advance my research! Be grateful!
The leader of the research lab.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He first appears to be an affable scientist trying to find a cure, or at least a vaccine, but quickly reveals himself to be a completely amoral scientist looking to weaponize The Virus to satisfy his own curiosity.
  • Evilutionary Biologist: He is obsessed with Darwin's theory of evolution, so he pits human survivors, wild zombies, and his custom made super zombies in a box and has them fight it out, then takes the best "evolved" virus and uses it to boost himself, as he's the one who will be the top of the food chain in the end.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Wears glasses and is a completely amoral researcher who seeks to learn just how far zombies can mutate, not actually cure the condition.
  • Mad Scientist: Completely unhinged, to the point that he feeds human survivors to zombies, just to see what will happen, and designed at least two custom-order super-zombies.
  • Moral Myopia: All his unethical experiments, including luring Ling Mo and party into a trap, forcing them to fight the Spider Queen and other test zombies? That's a-ok. They tear his lab apart trying to escape, or better yet, come for him? UNFORGIVEABLE!
  • So Long, Suckers!: When his sneak-attack on Ling Mo failed, he pushes a hidden trap lever and seals Ling Mo and crew within the attack range of two super-zombies he custom made, laughing like the loon he is.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He has no qualms disposing of subordinates that no longer have any use to him.

     Stella
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4_1_9.jpg
  • Face–Monster Turn: After the spider queen zombie is defeated, she moves in to clean up the corpse, and collect blood samples to try and restart her research into a cure. The Spider Queen was Only Mostly Dead and jumps up to bite her. She becomes the new spider queen and fixates on making Ling Mo her mate, consent optional.
  • Forced into Evil: When the outbreak started, the research facility was just a warehouse, so she and the rest of her fellow researchers were desperate for rescue from The Horde. Zhao Zhi provided that rescue, in return for having them all engage in all sorts of nastiness.
  • Mook–Face Turn: After seeing Luo Lao sacrificed to trap Ling Mo and crew, she turns on Zhao Zhi to rescue them, knowing that if she stays with Zhao, it's only a matter of time before she's next.
  • Yandere: When Ling Mo is sent into a Bad Future after fighting a very unusual mutant zombie, he learns that she does care for him, in a very twisted and self-serving way.

     Luo Lao

N--non-noooo! I don't wanna die!
A security guard that came with the research facility and was tasked by Zhao Zhi to escort Ling Mo and crew to their quarters.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: His stuttering, nervous ticks, and the fact that he was sweating buckets tipped off Ling Mo that Zhao Zhi was up to no good.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Barely manages to introduce himself before being killed off by the super zombie.

Others:

     202
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/202_4.jpg
Nah. I don't care about lolis. I like them all grown up, with big breasts and thick thighs!
A perverted pre-teen boy Ling Mo and crew find en route to the military base and research center.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He may like to perv out on women, but if he has the chance, he will put himself in harm's way to protect them.
  • Dirty Kid: He's a pre-teen and almost constantly pervs out on any girl high-school age or older.
  • Diving Save: He rescues Jiayu this way, and she's grateful.
  • Facial Markings: He's got "202" tattooed on his face.
  • KEET: The aspect of his personality that irritates Ling Mo most is that he's got too much energy and is almost constantly bouncing off walls.
  • Likes Older Women: He's not interested in girls his age. He's attracted to full-grown, or nearly so, women.
  • No Name Given: If he has a name, he's not telling.
  • Scary Teeth: His teeth are all sharp and pointy.
  • You Are Number 6: He's number 202.
