openEdit War on Characters/FireEmblemThreeHousesEdelgard
Edit page history link for Fire Emblem: Three Houses – Edelgard.
RedHunter543 deleted the Dark Messiah entry on Edelgard's character page for the following reason: "Edelgard does not fit the criteria to be a dark messiah."
Mei-may restored the entry for the following reason: "Didn't cite which criteria she lacks to be not be this trope. And a DM is a villain with savior-delusions, has a utopian vision of peace and prospect, knight templar tendencies, has pet the dog moments but ruthless enough to sacrifice the dog, has loyal followers and generally acts/has good intentions, etc. Which all fit Edelgard."
Redhunter 543 deleted the entry again, making this into an Edit War for the following reason: "Edelgard does not present herself to be a holy savior to be a Dark Messiah, she's more knight templar than this trope. Additionally, she does not inspire fanatism in people aside from Hubert. The rest of the Eagles can turn on her for example"
I read the page for Dark Messiah and agree with Mei-may that Edelgard qualifies, but more voices should be heard to determine if Edelgard is indeed a DM.
openIs this correct or not? Film
On The Batman (2021) it has "Adaptational Name Change: Riddler's civilian surname has been changed from Nygma to Nashton."
I'm positive there's at least one incarnation where Nashton was his legal last name before he changed it after leaving home. So does this actually count as Adaptational Name Change or no?
Edited by AkibaPurpleopenAmerican Hate Tingle
In YMMV.Uzaki Chan Wants To Hang Out has a Americans Hate Tingle that im certain is being misused since it deals with the issue with one characters body.
Particularly among certain Twitter circles, there's a subset of the Western audience that is very vocal in their dislike of Uzaki, particularly due to their belief that her body type makes her oversexualized as well as the misconception that she is a minor and therefore promoting pedophilia (despite the fact that Uzaki is 19).
Edited by WhirlRXopenSuperMillionaire
Super Millionaire made edits that reference non-existent tropes in Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak, Lady of War, and Tomboy with a Girly Streak.
- Gentlewoman Of War
- Girly Appearance Tomboyish Personality
- Ladies Of War Dont Have Love Interests
- Tomboyish Appearance Girly Personality
openJak 3 Videogame
For some reason, Jak 3 is labelled as Jak 3: Wastelander, even though that's purely a Fan Nickname and has never been an official title. The Trivia page even happily admits this fact. The most baffling part is the fact that Jak 3 isn't even a redirect. This can't be kosher, can it?
openIs this ItWasHisSled? Videogame
This example from Dream Within a Dream was unspoilered when I came across it:
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is All Just a Dream, and within that game there's an area called the Dream Shrine which you access by climbing into a bed and going to sleep.
I added the spoiler tags, but is the reason it was unspoilered because it was already a well-known twist, and thus, I had no reason to spoiler it?
openViolation of Examples Are Not General?
In the TLP draft for Advanced Movement Techniques, I proposed an example for B-hopping; a technique that can be performed on all games that run on Valve's Source Engine. It was denied by Zuxtron because they're unsure if it violates Examples Are Not General. Here's my proposed example in full.
- Valve's Source Engine has a unique quirk with its physics that allows the use of a technique called "B-hopping". By chaining a series of jumps and strafes at precise timings, you can keep your forward momentum going without slowing down. In single player games, it's useful in Speedruns, while in multiplayer games, it creates a large skill gap for players to master in order to get ahead of the competition. B-hopping can be performed on all games that run on the engine, like Half-Life 2 and its episodes, Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Team Fortress 2.
If it does violate the rule, then how do I go about re-writing it? Because B-hopping is too widespread across all Source Engine games to be narrowed down to just one.
Edited by DivineFlame100openSlashes in the discussion pages.
Apparently if you use a " or ' in discussion page, it gets a slash put in front of it.
Is there some way to prevent this? Is something planned to be done about it?
Edited by Mimic1990openSportingEvent lists... people?
The Sporting Event index lists numerous Sportspeople, but... well, people are not events, so sporting people are not sporting events.
Or does this serve some purpose that's not obvious to me? It looks to me like it's an audience reaction of "sportspeople who are so entertaining that they're like an event"?
openExamples from a Cancelled Work.
I noticed on BigEater.Video Games and Big Beautiful Woman that there are some examples from an apparently cancelled dating sim game called Hachi Koi. Doing a quick google search reveals that it was going to be released on the Nintendo DS years ago before it got cancelled, leaving only a handful of screenshots and character illustrations as the only evidence of its existence. In both cases, the examples talk about the character Kurumi Kasugaoka, and they're written in a way as if the original editors lament the fact that said game never got released.
What are the policies for examples from cancelled works? Should they be moved to Darth Wiki?
Edited by DivineFlame100openSpoiler Image on character page
So I was checking on Lucifer (2016) charater page and then I found one image for a character named God. It shows his appearance in mid season 5 finale and I accidentally spoiled myself .And the troper put in the picture is named G3ae. So I decided to label note an image ( Link here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.Lucifer2016#edit26846822 ) but I was thinking if I should deleted the picture or just keep it label note.
openDeath Battle's Trivia Folder on "Recurring Trends and Fan Speculations", as a WMG page.
So, on the Death Battle Trivia page, the "Recurring trends and fan speculations" folder was removed as it made the page too long (the removal is under recent history), and possibly for being too speculative for trivia. This is understandable.
I was thinking that it could be brought back, but... as a Death Battle WMG subpage called "DEATH BATTLE! Recurring Trends", with the examples rephrased to fit the WMG format? After all, fan speculation could fit as a WMG, and I believe it fits more than as a Trivia trope as several trends are... quite inaccurate, to say the least.
We could get WM Gs of "Any fighter who attacks the other before the battle begins proper (before "FIGHT!!" appears) will lose", then have a list of confirmed and jossed examples.
Edited by ironcommandoopenMysims Agents videogame page Videogame
Hi, I'm new troper, and I have a question to ask. Since there are Mysims page tropes and Mysims Kingdom page tropes, can I make a new page that speaks the tropes around Mysims Agents? Many thanks.
Edited by Sean_PermanaopenPossible fanfic self-promotion?
While some of ZoicAlcelaphine's edits, particularly those related to Undertale, have been pretty questionable, I have reason to believe they may be recommending their own fics on the game's Fanfic Recs page. If you look at their troper page and the FFN page for one of the authors they keep promoting, they seem a bit too similar for it to be a coincidence (at least, it seems that way to me).
Also, the recently-created page for the fanfic The World Of Humans And Monsters, and especially its YMMV page, are tripping several red flags for me. Some of these include repeated usage of "The author believes/thinks..." and putting four instances of the canon characters getting called out under Catharsis Factor (it doesn't help that they're zero-context examples), along with including some non-YMMV tropes in the YMMV subpage as another way of going "this is why the canon characters are wrong".
Even if I'm wrong about the troper and the author being one and the same, that fic page needs serious work in order to stand as an objective page (which, considering that it's pretty much a Hate Fic that turns most of Undertale's cast into either author avatars or straw characters, may be an uphill battle). What do you think?
openVideo game character pages Videogame
I want to avoid making these sound like an FAQ, but I also want to add the most entries I can. Is there a site policy on gameplay elements?
openWeird Accidental Innuendo?
This Accidental Innuendo entry on YMMV.Chrono Trigger (modified the spoilers for clarity):
- The scene where Marle makes amends with her father at the end of the Rainbow Shell sidequest features an exchange in which Marle learns that she used to call King Guardia "daddy." Given how that word has taken on a much less couth meaning in the popular vernacular during The New '10s (specifically referring to spoiler:a dominant male partner in a sexual relationship), the exchange becomes hilariously awkward to modern readers.
I'm aware of the alternate meaning for "daddy", but this seems a bit far-fetched (if anything, it seems a Verbal Tic characterizing the Bratty Teenage Daughter such as Pearl Krabs and Paige Fox, so it seems appropriate for a girl of Marle's age).
Edited by Chabal2openAdorkable on Character pages
With the recent change of Main/Adorkable to YMMV, do we need to move the entries under character pages to YMMV as well?
openWhere do you go to suggest new cleanup threads?
I have noticed that Affably Evil and Faux Affably Evil are very often confused with each other, to the point that I have seen characters listed as both without the entries noting that the character zigzag from one to another. I know it's possible to be both at different times, but still, there is so much confusion that I want to suggest a cleanup thread.
Insert Witty Username has some edit reasons in their history that are unnecessarily rude, including their most recent one, on this page: "Uh...no? The sexual harassment scenes are supposed to show them as misogynist creeps. Plus, if it took a Twitter hashtag to show you sexual harassment was wrong... well... no comment..."
On this page: "Uh... wtf? No,no, she just adds spicy pepper/tobacco to it, and it doesn’t kill the dog, the lady says ‘dying’ not ‘dead’, and it’s clearly not dying either, the joke is it’s an overreaction! Wtf this is kinda fucked up. This is Fawlty Towers, not Peep Show! You can’t just have the characters murder a dog casually!"
Most obvious is this one: "This is the most unimaginably dense thing I've read in a long while."
