Bringing these up from the Real Life sub-page for Have a Gay Old Time

  • The trailer of The Great Race calls the film the gayest comedy in the world.
    • Well, there is Prince Hapnick (one of the two characters played by Jack Lemmon) ... "Goodbye, you Great Leslie, you!"

  • A 1908 soap ad asked "Have you a little fairy in your home?"
    • Fairy Soap is still around. One of Proctor & Gamble's most popular international brands. The Little Fairy ad could still be seen in the 1970s.

  • Ladies and gentleman, The Wunder Boner.
    "My wife would like that!"

On Dwindling Party:

  • Supernatural has always killed off a lot of characters — one of the leads, Dean, is a leader in the television dying field all on his own — and any single ghost episode sometimes does this. The zombie virus episode, "Croatoan", also did it, in proper tropey fashion. Since the end of Season 6, the whole show has been doing it, killing off or otherwise removing recurring cast members without replacing them with new playersnote  and paring things down until, as of December 2011, the main cast has been completely reduced to Ackles and Padalecki, just like at the start of Season 1. Almost the only other even recurring character still in play is the demon Crowley.
    • When you consider they faced the Apocalypse with a team that maxed out at six at any one time, being reduced to two doesn't seem that big a change...
    • It looks like Sam and Dean are gearing up for that Butch & Sundance ending the actors keep talking about.
    • Seems to be a cyclical thing for the show. Near the end of Season 7, secondary characters began to return or get introduced, and Season 8 continued to build up the character count. Probably in preparation to dwindle the party again during the next serious crisis.

Okay, out of the subbullets, only part of the last one was spared and merged. The last sentence in that one was speculative troping.

Bringing this up from the rap sub-page for One-Hit Wonder. Is there any way I could condense the two bullets into one?

  • 3rd Bass reached #29 on the Hot 100 in 1991 with "Pop Goes the Weasel", a diss track against commercialized pop rappers of the day like MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. The song's video even featured the band's members beating up a Vanilla Ice parody played by punk rocker Henry Rollins. "Pop Goes the Weasel" was 3rd Bass' only Hot 100 entry or Gold single, and the group disbanded about a year later. Members Pete Nice and DJ Richie Rich attempted a solo album in 1993, Dust to Dust, but it produced no singles and largely went unnoticed, and MC Serch would go on to become a disc jockey in Detroit, and later hosted Ego Trip's The White Rapper Show and Ego Trip's Miss Rap Supreme on VH1. While three attempts at reunions were done in the late 1990s and mid-2010s, nothing came of them, and any attempts at another reunion were dashed when Nice was convicted of misdemeanor tax fraud in 2014.
    • That said, they did manage to score a couple more hits on rap radio during their existence, one of the more popular being "The Gas Face", which peaked at #5 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. On said song is the debut appearance of a young rapper known as Zev Love X, who at the time was a member of the rap trio KMD. This was his only time getting on a chart solo of the group (who don't qualify as this for having two songs hit the top 20 of the chart), which disbanded soon after member DJ Subroc died from being hit by a car. After taking time off from the scene, he proceeded to rebuild his career from the ground up and became a much-respected figure of the genre through his re-invention as MF DOOM. However, even though he became an influential mainstay of the Alternative Hip Hop movement of the 2000s, he was also a No-Hit Wonder, and with his passing in 2020, it's incredibly unlikely he'll ever have another entry to his name.

Bringing this up from Network Death:

  • PAX became "i" and then I.O.N.
    • PAX was itself the Spiritual Successor of Infomall TV Network (inTV), a network that was more or less 100% infomercials.
    • Likewise, another ION channel, ION Life rebranded in 2019 as ION Plus and shifted from lifestyle programming to dramas and crime programming until it shut down in early 2021.

Also, I moved the creator channel's page due to a manga sharing the name with the Wiki Word formatting. So, while reworking the example, change that instance of ION to Creator.Ion Television.

Bringing these up from Wrestling Doesn't Pay:

  • Before he was Kane, Glenn Jacobs went through a string of these: Isaac Yankem, DDS, a wrestling dentist; Diesel (after Kevin Nash jumped to WCW); and "the Christmas Creature". When being the cartoonishly evil brother of a wrestling zombie makes your character less ridiculous, you really should look at your contract.
    • While it's never been part of his gimmick, in real life Jacobs is the owner of an insurance agency. He was also elected Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee in 2018, and briefly won the 24/7 Title while mayor, making him a wrestling politician.
    • Even as Kane, he sometimes was this, having his stint as Corporate Kane, and at one point he got kayfabe fired and had to work at the concessions stand.
  • Remember Repo Man from WWF? When he joined WCW, Barry Darsow (AKA: "Smash" of Demolition) became wrestling golfer Stewart Pain. Due to the untimely death of real-life golfer Payne Stewart, where the name was taken, he became Barry "Hole in One" Darsow not long after.
    • He was also the Blacktop Bully, a wrestling truck driver.

[up] Did so.

Also bringing up this from the same page, which is further evidence of why there should be a pro wrestling clean-up thread:

  • Also parodied on a skit of The Man Show, where Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel tried their hand at pro wrestling. At one point, Adam appears as a character called "The Calligrapher," complete with a Renaissance-themed costume. I can only assume that one of the Calligrapher's signature moves involves poking opponents in the eye with his quill pen. Other gimmicks demonstrated included "The Rabbi", "The Alcoholic Step-Father", and "The Pope". That last one, by the way, is Hilarious in Hindsight now that Elijah Burke had a gimmick in TNA where he was billed "Pope D'Angelo Dinero." (It's a Nonindicative Name, however, as he wasn't Catholic at all but a Protestant street preacher from Harlem.)

Bringing these up from Network to the Rescue:

  • Though its quality is disputable, [adult swim] at one point started airing a promo in which they say Squidbillies has been getting low ratings... and how clearly the reason was that the viewers were morons and hadn't yet given this wonderful show a chance. That's why now they're airing it every single night instead of once a week, to get us to watch it and see how great it is.
    • Same with The Oblongs.
    • Somewhat inverted with Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!. Adult Swim promotes the hell out of it and gives it the red carpet treatment but the fanbase isn't biting and the show has low to middling ratings. It's not a Creator's Pet or The Scrappy even though it has developed a Hatedom because after the craptons of promotion the show does have fans.
    • Four years after Cartoon Network cancelled Toonami, [adult swim] brought it back for one night as an April Fool's joke. A month later, Adult Swim officially Un-Canceled it, replacing their own Action block. In the years since it has some of the top rated shows for their time slots, and even aired Space☆Dandy before Japan did. Saved By The Network indeed.

  • King of the Hill was absent from American television for nearly two years, as the show was removed from free-to-air syndication in March 2019, and was pulled from Comedy Central (who grabbed the cable rights to the show from [adult swim] in July 2018) eight months later (there's even a rumor that the channel's parent company, ViacomCBS, bought the rights only so Adult Swim couldn't have them). However, once ViacomCBS's contract expired, the show's cable rights reverted to 20th Television, who was acquired by Disney shortly after the Comedy Central deal was finalized. As a result of this, FXX added King of the Hill to their schedule on September 20, 2021.
    • Even better, while Comedy Central tended to only air the series late at night or in the wee hours of the morning, FXX has been giving King of the Hill consistent timeslots in the afternoon.
    • And to add insult to injury, Adult Swim got King of the Hill back, gaining nighttime rights to the series in November of 2021, meaning if true, Comedy Central's efforts to poach the series away from them was All for Nothing.

Bringing this up from the music sub-page for Old Shame:

  • The Goo Goo Dolls used to be a punk band. John Rzeznik said in the band's Behind The Music episode that the band's third album, Hold Me Up, was their first "real" album, effectively disowning their self-titled debut and its follow-up, Jed. Taking this further, the band rarely (or never) plays anything that came before their fifth album, A Boy Named Goo (which brought the band its first taste of commercial success, despite being in roughly the same Punk Rock style as their earlier releases), in concert anymore.
    • Actually, several songs from Superstar Car Wash (which was released two years before A Boy Named Goo), namely "We Are the Normal" (which singer Johnny Rzeznik has a particularly soft spot for because he wrote it with his idol Paul Westerberg), "Cuz You're Gone" and "Another Second Time Around" are still commonly played live, and even the title track to Hold Me Up gets an occasional live play.
    • In recent years, Rzeznik's opinions have changed on their earliest albums. When he was asked by Noisey to rank all of the band's records for a recurring feature, he didn't put Jed very high, but ranked their debut ahead of A Boy Named Goo and recommended that people who want to get into the band start with Superstar Car Wash.

I brought this up before in the Wall of Text thread, but got no response. From FandomEnragingMisconception.Video Games:

Don't accuse Fantasy Strike of being an Allegedly Free Game just because the free version lacks most of the single-player content, local multiplayer, and the ability to invite friends to online matches (admittedly important features for players not interested in the competitive aspect of the game), or the fans will put you into a Checkmate Buster for failing to see that this is still an objectively better deal than the paid versionnote : prior to the free-to-play update, you had to pay 30$ for the entire game, including the modes that are now free. Post-free-to-play, you have access to ranked and casual online matches, training, and single AI matches, with all characters, for free, while the 20$ paywall for the missing features is around the normal price point for this type of game. Fans are especially sensitive about this because the game was review-bombed from Very Positive to Mixed shortly after the update came out, mostly because of this complaint (although the connection issues caused by the large influx of new players were also a contributing factor, not to mention the honest negative reviews that just happened to be posted during that period).

I think we can salvage this, but the complaints about the game's reception need to go.

On Elizabeth II, there is a list of appearances in media. A few of these appearances are followed by a note. I think those notes may be natter, but I'm not sure.

The examples in question (for various reasons, the notes have been placed separate from the examples here):

  • She makes appearances in the Mickey and the Roadster Racers episodes "Ye Olde Royal Heist" and "Tea Time Trouble" as, surprisingly, a mouse Funny Animal character. Though she is only called the "Queen of England", she is obviously a mouse depiction of Elizabeth II as evident by the silver curls, pearl necklace, and the coat too.
    • The note: She should’ve been either a corgi or a fox; just making her another mouse character makes her more of Mickey Mouse’s grandmother instead of the Queen herself!

  • Her Majesty makes appearances (as one of the two only human characters, surprisingly) in two episodes of Peppa Pig.
    • In the first, Miss Rabbit, who does the majority of the jobs in Peppa's neighborhood, brings the preschoolers along when she receives The Queen's Award for Industry. Her Majesty is nice to the kids, and not too serious to partake in everybody's favorite pastime: jumping up and down in muddy puddles.
      • The note: It’s considered against the protocol to tell a monarch or any other head of state what to do, so Peppa Pig is encouraging even British kids to go against the protocol if they were to meet their own monarch. Off with the pig's head!
    • In the second episode, Madame Gazelle's class is in London for a tour. Miss Rabbit fancies herself so much in Queen Elizabeth's good books that she feels confident enough to ask Her Majesty to lead the tour. Not only does Her Majesty oblige, but she hijacks a double-decker bus and gets it to jump Tower Bridge.
      • The note: In reality, the Queen wouldn’t really do all that because she’s a busy woman and she isn’t that insane when it comes to driving.

I should probably note that these have been here for a couple of years.

Yeah, all those sound irrelevant and seem like just natter disguised as notes. I think they should be deleted.
