Since let's plays are usually video-based, the target namespace is usually WebVideo/. However, some are text-based, and the consensus was to handle the namspacing of those on a case-by-case basis, with Blog/, Fanfic/, and Literature/ brought up as potential targets.
Before any given article is transplanted, we should confirm that it meets the standards for being a TV Tropes work article. Note that these often serve as hybrid articles for their creators in much the same way as the Music namespace. If there is insufficient content, the articles end up becoming about the creators, violating our "no troping real people" policy.
The crucial question is whether the article has any tropable, creative content. This means that it's more than just "Alisha plays games and makes faces." What counts as tropable, creative content? Here are some examples.
- Creating a fictional/roleplaying narrative that is distinct from the game being played or the real person doing the LP.
- Using the game as a medium to craft original content: songs, videos, machinima, and so on.
- "MST'ing" or creatively riffing on the game's content, as long as it's sufficiently transformative.
What are not criteria for a tropable Let's Play by themselves?
- Adopting a quirky personality, cracking jokes, making funny faces, or overreacting to jump scares.
- Cosplaying, playing with toys, unboxing merchandise, etc.
- Having a "gimmick" that makes them stand out, such as a repeated Catchphrase, eating loudly on microphone, or calling their viewers "Doggo fam".
- Playing games in a particular way (speedrunning, evil runs, no-kill runs, etc.) that fall within what it is possible to do in the game itself, with or without mods.
- Modding the game.
- Being very popular.
- Having lots of memes arise in their fandom.
Note that the same general principles apply to any Web Video creator, especially those whose main work is in news, reviews, vlogging, and/or reaction videos.
There are a few outliers that will need to be handled on a case-by-case basis.
- After-Action Report: I would move it to literature, although it could be considered fanfic.
- Liveblogs, which are probably not tropable.
Web Video cleanup sandbox
This project has several purposes related to all things Web Video:
- Cleaning up the WebVideo index
- Cleaning up the WebVideo/ namespace to move pages that belong elsewhere
- Cleaning up individual Web Video pages that have massive issues
Overview
The easy-seeming part when I started on Web Video (the index) was just removing things not even located in the namespace— found in Creator, Film, Web Animation, etc. Then I started noticing there were many things put in Web Video (the namespace) that were basically Creator pages, lots of Let's Play, other video game streaming that doesn't currently have an index, other misuses in index and/or namespace placement...
- original live action, meaning not animated or reusing existing footage;
- narrative/creative, a bit unclear, but it's not someone simply reviewing another work/reacting to other works/playing through another work;
- a work, which is... a work, not a creator.
Reaction channels tend to straddle a line here, but are not generally tropable unless they create some sort of distinct creative endeavor rather than stare at a video and laugh a bit. Also it helps if they are reacting to fiction, not to real life. The latter may be entertaining but falls into the same general category as gossip. We can trope these only for their use of production and artistic tropes, not for their topics.
-
No Analysis Channel index— corrected! - No index for non-Let's Play video game streaming unless they're on Twitch. If they don't fall into the Let's Play format and aren't on Twitch, where do they go?
- No
Gag Dub orGag Sub index - Where should we put channels based on prank calls, scam-baiting, other audio-based things where the video is incidental?
Pages identified for cleanup:
- A Dose of Buckley — see this ATT for more info
- The Mysterious Mr. Enter and subpages — issues include troping the creator and not the works
- The Nostalgia Critic and subpages — see this project thread
- Smosh and subpages — Smosh is a channel, and the pages have multiple works (may need a hard split)
- Thomas Sanders — Creator, lots of biographical details, previously hard split for Sanders Sides but may need another

Just the index cleanup itself is a considerable project, figuring out what stays and what needs a different index, but there are also many pages with significant issues to clean. This is a very big project, but I've seen other people notice these issues, too. I hope we can at least get the index under control.
( For clarity and re: review stuff. Continue to edit as things occur that are useful to keep at the top of the thread.)

For Snap Cube, I think we can keep the real-time fan dubs. The dubs heavily transform the narratives of the games they dub over, crafting an very different experience.
I did not question real-time dubs (its validity is unambiguous anyway), I'm talking only about the letsplay channel.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupRegarding Sandbox.Web Video Cleanup, could I append "sorting comments" to the examples (e.g. "troping the person", "zce", "keep")? I would add the comments from much earlier in this thread, at least.
Oh, that'd be helpful.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI added the A examples to RT Game.
Could we get Funny.RT Game added to Sandbox.Web Video Cleanup? I'd like to check if any of the examples fit into creative tropes. (I had an example of I Will Show You X! in mind.)
So I have yet to really start my cleanup on Sandbox.Call Me Cleanup, but in the interim what should we do with the LP page? Should we move it to Web Video now (and have me swap in the sandbox when it's ready) or not make any changes until my cleanup is done?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessLetsPlay.Nico B was recently brought up.
I'm not a fan and don't watch him, so can't weight in much.
He does a lot of ad-lib and real-time dubbing when gaming, and also has a separate webseries, but the page has a designated folder of tropes about his person or gameplay. He looks tropable, but before being moved to Web Video the page may need a complete overhaul.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI can help out with NicoB's page. First, I'm all for splitting The Council of Voices into its own page. We could rework the second-to-last paragraph into a work page summary. The series already has its own funny subpage (Funny.Nico B Council Of Voices), though I don't know if we want to keep that title. I wouldn't mind scrubbing all the other subpages to separate Council of Voices content.
But I won't be able to do any of that for at least 18 hours. I'll also need to reread the early parts of this thread since I'm not completely clear on the line between creative tropes and "playing the game" tropes.
Nico B's page definetly has a bunch of tropes regarding Nico himself and what he does when he plays.
I don't doubt his Funny page, considering that his addlibing is usually to accomplish this , but the Awesome page for the most part just lists his accomplishments in games, rather than other things.
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.Question: how tropable is OneyPlays? I watch the channel and I don't believe there are any narratives or anything, it's just three guys reacting to games.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallThat's an easy cut.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I suppose there is Smiling Friends with him in it, but I don't think "making tropeable media later on" is enough to count.
That would probably be trivia for Zach's personal channel because it's just him involved.
Is LAN Party tropable? The description seems to say it's four people playing video games.
Has Beatrice the Golden Witch been discussed here? A lot of the tropes are "she thinks this" or "she has this opinion on a work that uses this trope." Seems like it should be cut.
Someone sent me here, so I was wondering if The Try Guys is allowed to have a character page since they're real people and it's a reality show soft of.
“What is that? It's The Unknown!”Yeah, since there's very little (if any) acting going on in their videos, the character page should be axed. Also noticed there's some RL troping on the main page so that also needs to be cleaned.

CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsThat makes me think about all the character pages there are for Reality Shows. I agree that to a certain point reality shows are scripted and can be troped, but would it actually be correct to call the contestants characters? It's the editing that paint them in a better or worse light, but these are still their real reactions. Maybe having character pages for them is too far.
there was/is a thread to discuss troping game show/ competition show contestants. you can read it here
that said, reality tv show character pages need a really big clean up for incorrectly troping real life people
Krzysztof Gonciarz needs ZCE help and I don't know that channel.
Also not sure if it's fine at Creator/ namespace.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupLetsPlay.Ranboo doesn't meet the Let's Play troping guidelines, as it only has one valid example:
- Bait-and-Switch Comment: Unintentionally, with the famous "Not one, not two, not three... (Beat) We have three tubs of frosting!" Zero-context example
- Berserk Button: He hates being called anything related to a cat, such as a Cat Boy or a "meow-meow". And Tubbo loves to push this button. Creator troping
- Catchphrase: None of these are narrative
- "Holy cow!"
- "Ohp, there I go." Explanation
- "So, basically…" Whenever he’s about to explain something.
- Cool Crown: He wears one on his Minecraft skin, and occasionally in irl content. Not narrative
- Cordon Bleugh Chef: He often gets a bit too creative during his cooking videos. These seem valid, as they read like skits
- In the first video, he made a bowl of Minecraft Creeper Crunch cereal, to which he added an entire cinnamon roll. As he quickly finds out, cinnamon rolls do not taste good when soaked in milk.
- In the second video, he adds M&Ms to pre-made cake batter. This does not go well, all the M&M's sink to the bottom of the mixing bowl, and the dye bled into the cake itself during baking, which does not help its appearance.
Ranboo: We have our cake here, it looks, um... (Beat) Diseased, to say the least.
- Ranboo then tries to fix his cake by adding three tubs of frosting on the top, which he then tops with more M&M's and gummy worms. With the size of the cake, three tubs of frosting means that the layer of frosting is as thick as the cake itself.
Ranboo: It is half frosting, half cake, and FULL abomination.
- Ranboo then tries to fix his cake by adding three tubs of frosting on the top, which he then tops with more M&M's and gummy worms. With the size of the cake, three tubs of frosting means that the layer of frosting is as thick as the cake itself.
- Creator Career Self-Deprecation: Even though a major part of his content is Minecraft based, Ranboo often pokes fun at content creators who make Minecraft content for a living. It's lacking in context
Ranboo: No, in quotation marks, "normal" person will ever be a Minecraft YouTuber.
- Dude, Not Funny!: While playing Slime Rancher for the first time, Ranboo fills a slime pen with pink slimes and tries to walk into the pen to collect the plorts that the slimes had produced. This results in him getting the achievement "Ball pit", and Ranboo immediately starts yelling at the game.Explanation Just a reaction
Ranboo: Oh my goodness, you've got to be kidding me. This is not— not funny. Not funny. NOT FUNNY. I am not laughing right now.
- The Faceless: Downplayed. Though Ranboo sometimes uses facecam, he is usually seen wearing sunglasses, a mask, and gloves, obscuring his full appearance. This is gradually subverted more and more—as of April 2022, he has done an "eye reveal" and appears to be more open about his appearance, though he still wears a mask. Misuse
- Hates Being Alone: Has mentioned that it's his biggest fear. Creator troping
- Gosh Darn It to Heck!: Downplayed, but Ranboo chooses not to swear in his content. Creator troping
- Line-of-Sight Name: While answering questions during a stream, Ranboo confirmed that he came up with his name by picking objects from the room around him at random, and then saying the name of the object differently. The name that stuck was a variation of the word "rainbow", which he got from "Rainbow Loom". As in, the rubber-band bracelet-making toy. Seems to be creator troping
- Nice Guy: Frequently stated to be one of the nicest people ever, both by his friends and his fans. NRLEP trope
- Not Distracted by the Sexy: During Resident Evil Village, when Lady Dimitrescu appears, Ranboo doesn't express even a bit of attraction in her. This is a stark contrast to other players, although it's justified since he doesn't swing that way. Just a reaction
- Running Gag: None of these are narrative
- "Ranboo, my beloved." Explanation
- I forgot. Explanation
- When I get into MCC...Explanation
- His recurring contempt for the Dashcon ball pit, to the point that he allegedly made his character's Personalized Afterlife on the Dream SMP a giant version of it.
- Transparent Closet: Before he came out, he gave off many, many hints that he wasn't straight. The only reason people didn't see was because he set a boundary for people not to speculate his sexuality. He even lampshades it. NRLEP trope
- What Beautiful Eyes!: After his eye reveal, many fans had this reaction, combined with being proud for his confidence. Fan reaction, creator troping
It's been over a week, can I get an opinion?
I'd like to apologize for all this.
I mean...
Alright, we've had this discussion recently, you might know my stance on this issue and I don't think it's a good idea to rehash the debate here.
