I had a talk over at the Base-Breaking Character cleanup thread and someone there brought up how on YMMV.Fate Stay Night, DEEN Shirou's entry for The Scrappy mentions that he isn't really a universally-hated character. Am I free to cut?
<(0_0<) <(0_0)> (>0_0)> KIRBY DANCEShould the entries under Replacement Scrappy in The Daily Show with Trevor Noah be removed? A) They're both about real people, B) One is chronicling a knee-jerk reaction to Trevor taking over as host of the show, and C) The people who consider Trevor, the host, to be a Scrappy are probably not part of the fanbase of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to begin with. This carries over to the main The Daily Show page as well.
There's also a regular The Scrappy entry for another real person on the same page.
Cut as there's objective evidence of misuse. And I've notice a lot of bias against her.
Any comment on the entries on the Warcraft scrappy page I mentioned on the previous page, many of them are outdated, added too early, or ZC Es?
After rewatching Gravity Falls and looking at fan reactions, is it safe to suggest Celestabellebethabelle from The Last Mabelcorn? She was meant to be a Hate Sink for how she treated Mabel, but fans ended up hating her for coming off as a Straw Critic for Mabel's detractors, her self-righteous attitude when pointing out Mabel's flaws, and being revealed as a fraud, completely invalidating anything she may have had a point in.
- The Scrappy: That damn garden gnome from Episode 2; especially during the car portions.
It’s not a character. It’s more along the lines of a Scrappy Mechanic I think. It’s also a ZCE.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! That sounds more like Scrappy Mechanic. Move it there and comment it out since it's also a ZCE.
We should add the Grey Spy from Spy vs. Spy to the comics subpage. Fans hated her so much she was phased out in a really short amount of time since she changed the entire dynamic of the strip from "see which spy wins" to "watch the Grey Spy win". Something like this:
- A while into the strip's run Spy vs. Spy introduced the Grey Spy, a Femme Fatale who always won no matter what. Since she undermined the entire point of the strip, watching two spies try to kill each other in outlandish ways and seeing who would manage to out-scheme the other, fans took an immediate dislike to her and she was quickly and unceremoniously phased out.
Does anyone think that Sarah and the Kanker sisters (particularly Lee) might both fit better in Hate Sink than this trope, seeing as both of them are listed on the Scrappy page as being hated for being antagonistic to other characters? The Kanker sisters are even listed as the show's Big Bads on its Characters page.
- Ed, Edd n Eddy:
- Sarah falls under this to a lot of fans. She's an annoying brat of a child who does nothing but act bossy towards the other characters (including her Morality Pet Jimmy), is loud and obnoxious, and is especially abusive to her brother Ed (who, for the most part, is unbelievably nice/loyal to her... when he's not fearing her) both physically and verbally while being a Karma Houdini (IE: "Ed, you have to do as I say no matter what, or I'll tell Mom!").
- Out of the Kankers, Lee. Marie is considered intriguing and good looking, May has Hidden Depths and the most sympathetic personality. Lee, on the other hand, is seen as obnoxious and unattractive so she's the one who gets the most hate.
Also, there's these two Arthur entries that bother me:
- In the "Pal and Kate Speak" episodes, Francine's pet cat, Nemo, is hated for reasons similar to Pal and Kate's listed above, as well as playing the Cats Are Mean stereotype a little too straight.
- The Tibble Twins are not very well liked, due to the fact that they are both very bratty and dimwitted, and very rarely get punished for their actions. While they may have a Freudian Excuse (their parents aren't around, so they are taken care of by their grandmother, who seems to spoil them), that doesn't excuse the fact that they misbehave so much, they make D.W. look like a saint in comparison. Also, they've become incredibly overexposed over the years.
Nemo is meant to be an antagonist to Pal and Kate in the "Pal and Kate Speak" episodes, so he may not count.
As for the Tibbles, they are listed on the Deliberately Bad Example page as characters who are meant to make D.W. look better in episodes where she has a Sympathetic P.O.V., so I'm not sure their hatred is unintended. Also, I don't think many people actually consider the Tibbles worse than D.W., since some fans of the show have gone as far to describe D.W. as an outright sociopath, even on This Very Wiki, which is something I've never seen anyone say about the Tibbles (and contrary to what the... exaggerated details I've added about D.W. before might make you think, I am not the only Troper who has referred to her as that on here; Oecchi has also make edits that describe D.W. as a "borderline sociopath" on the Arthur characters page, Annoying Younger Sibling (which have now been edited by another Troper to remove the "sociopath" parts), and Depending on the Writer, while Noob Master has added an entry to Hate Sink (about Cousin Cora, not D.W.) that states that while D.W. "can be borderline sociopathic from time to time, she does have her fair share of redeemable moments", which we don't get with Cora.
On a semi-hiatus from this site due to being busy with other things (may contribute here and there, but nothing major). This example is listed under YMMV.Animal Crossing New Leaf:
- The Scrappy: Pavé in New Leaf is not well liked among the fandom for often being obnoxious and berating the player for not dancing even if the player uses the Shrunk Funk Shuffle, as well as his minigame not being very fun.
As someone who had to play Pavé's mini game recently I can say that his mini game IS tedious. Most of the time when you get a feather that Pavé wants by finding it floating around or trading it with villagers, a villager will challenge you to a mini game (most often Rock paper scissors) and you'll lose it because of sheer dumb luck. Pavé attitude is grating and his schtik gets old fast but I don't think he's a scrappy. If anything, his Scrappy status is based off a boring mini game which is mostly based on chance and 9 out of ten times if you're only missing one item from the Pavé set, he'll give you a duplicate. Oh and did I mention this is the only furniture set you can't complete if you use the campground meaning if you want a full catalogue you HAVE to play this? Same goes with the equally frustrating Zipper T Bunny mini game which suffers from similar problems except you'll often have like 7 pics of them and only one furniture from him. So if there's a Scrappy trope that applies to the mini game, both would fit that.
So yeah, his mini game is obnoxious and not fun, but a Scrappy he is not.

I would like to add Jinder Mahal to the Professional Wrestling Scrappy page. The primary reason is that Jinder was given an out of nowhere push and won the WWE Championship- having spent his entire career as a jobber. From there, things got worse and worse- he spent his promos being a dated Foreign Wrestling Heel, only won matches due to outside interference by his two henchmen, and ultimately spent seven long months holding the title. It got so bad that even Paul Heyman began mocking him in a live promo. Nowadays, the nightmare is over and the guy’s been spending time away from the major scene, but people still hate him.

Check out my fanfiction account here!- The Scrappy:
- Kitten takes a lot of heat from the fans, but a lot of it's rather undeserved, as it's not for her unpleasant personality (which is detestable, even in-show) so much as the fact that she forced Robin to date her. Even though the real goal behind that was to regain Fang's attention after he broke up with her.
Dear god, why did they list her as a Scrappy and then admits she isn't really an example?
- Gizmo, who was perhaps the most commonly-appearing villain in the series, behind Slade. However, he also happened to be a whiny, self-superior Bratty Half-Pint with an annoying voice and nothing resembling Character Development. Even his own teammates don't like him.
He's supposed to be annoying and hated, judging from this entry's description of him.
- Mother Mae-Eye is one of the least popular villains. Given that her only major appearance was in a Bizarro Episode that only happened because of Cyborg suddenly taking a level in dumbass, as well as her ridiculous motivations (brainwashing people to bake them into a pie) and her cringe-inducing interactions with the Titans, this is hardly surprising.
This one is just complaining. I think this villain was supposed to give off creepy vibes, so I don't think she qualifies. (BTW, the only other appearance she made was in the comic adaption, where she was disguised as a show host to try to brainwash the Titans again.)

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!I don't think they were admitting Kitty "isn't an example", but injecting their own opinion of "she shouldn't be hated, tho".
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI see. Then shouldn't Kitten be in Die for Our Ship if that's the case then, despite obviously not being the pairing they worked towards? (The pairing the writers wanted being Robin and Starfire.)
Still fishing for opinions on the examples.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!- The Scrappy: Wes. His signature scene aside, his callous and borderline cruel treatment of Duster has made him almost as reviled as Porky.
Uhhhhh... I don't think I've seen any significant hatred for Wes. At least from what I remember. He's more of a Jerk with a Heart of Gold type if I remember correctly.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!- The Scrappy: Most of the Robot Master designs are pretty cool, but nobody will admit to liking Plant Man, due to a combo of having one of the most lame designs for a Robot Master in the series, a pathetic attack pattern, and a lame shield weapon that marks him as a poor man's Wood Man. It doesn't help that his stage is also the most infuriating level in the entire game.
Isn’t there any other item that describes him better? The Robot Masters generally don’t have any character that I can think of.
- The Scrappy: Auto isn't very popular. He's a comic relief character who isn't particularly funny, doesn't add anything to the game, and feels very out of place alongside Dr. Light and his robot children. In fact, in Rockman 7 FC (a fan-made 8-bit demake of the game,) when Mega Man returns to the lab after Bass trashes it, you can see Auto's broken body in the corner.
I don’t think the person who wrote this entry realized that unpopular ≠ hated.
I also don’t see any significant hate for Auto either.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! At least in the case of Auto, it does feel like one person projected their dislike upon the entire fandom.
SoundCloudI would argue that the entry with Wess is also just one person complaining. There’s also a Unintentionally Unsympathetic example about him that has no context.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!I would like to contest an entry regarding Bulma's status as The Scrappy:
- Dragon Ball:
- Bulma was(and still is) largely well-liked, but she briefly fell into this during the Namek saga of Dragon Ball Z, where she's completely useless to the plot and does nothing but bitch to everyone else. (Granted, by the end of the arc, some viewers sympathized with how much she was sick of Namek.) She got more love afterward for building a time machine in the Cell Saga, and several of her actions in Dragon Ball Super utilized her wits more, reminding everyone of the Hot Scientist from the original Dragon Ball.
Even ignoring that it breaks the established rule of not allowing moments to be The Scrappy, I don't recall anyone particularly hating her in the Namek Saga especially because most her scenes being a bitch/useless is exclusive to anime fillers
I stumbled across YMMV.Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, which uses The Scrappy to refer to Dimmu Borgir, a real-life band. Since The Scrappy is No Real Life Examples, Please!, and it's the only example on the page, I'm putting it on the cutlist.
From YMMV.Star Trek Picard:
- The Scrappy: Raffi is accumulating some of this sentiment. Her subplot of wanting to get in touch with her estranged son goes absolutely nowhere once she gets to Freecloud, she is constantly angry and resentful towards Picard, and she acts like owning land on Earth (which is the capital of the Federation) is some kind of insult because she saw her own home after her dismissal from Starfleet as a "hovel".
This seems like a bit of a stretch to me. I've been following the conversation around the show and I can't say I've noticed any particular Hate Dom toward the character, and even the example text couches it in Weasel Words.
YMMV.Mario Kart has a lot of complaining under The Scrappy and Tier Induced Scrappy, especially these ones which overlap on TheScrappy.Super Mario Bros:
" Pink Gold Peach, who unlike Metal Marionote , doesn't have any trace of an Ensemble Dark Horse history as Metal Mario, or any basis in previous games for that matter, leading to many accusations of artificially inflating the roster by making characters up. This was only further fueled by the addition of Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach as DLC in 8 (who are also soundly described below), leading to four sets of Mario and Peach variations (five after Deluxe introduced Gold Mario).
Baby Daisy, who unlike Baby Mario, Luigi or Peach, didn't appear in Yoshi's Island and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, and has no basis in any previous Mario games and apparently just being made up for "roster padding". While Toadette was also created for the Mario Kart series, she at least has precedence in the female Toads from Paper Mario 64.
Baby Rosalina gets it even worse. Not only is she accused of " roster padding", but her mere existence basically throws the lore from her Storybook in Super Mario Galaxy out of the windowspoilers ! Fans of Galaxy have since then been afraid (and disgusted) Nintendo might have retconned the emotive storybook with the inclusion of Baby Rosalina, and the fact Nintendo hasn't addressed this plot hole doesn't help her case. At. All.
While on the topic of the "baby" characters, why Baby Wario and Baby Donkey Kong didn't make it in before them is boggling, because at least the latter two babies were in Yoshi's Island DS, unlike Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina.
Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach, due to them being literal clones of Mario and Peach in power-up outfits, and thus having no purpose as playable characters. Even worse is the fact that they created new animations for them instead of just reusing Mario and Peach's animations (unlike Gold Mario)."
A couple pages ago there was talk of cleaning up the Mario scrappies, including the Kart gang, but it didn't really get a consensus.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I remember that I brought up the two characters from Paper Mario TTYD on here, which while there was discussion, never seemed to reach a consensus.
- Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time: The Star Gate gets a lot of hate for being an unreasonable Jerkass to Luigi. Even though he later admits that he was only doing it to see if Mario would defend him, his cruelty to just Luigi comes across as incredibly excessive (e.g. giving him three options to answer a question, calling them all wrong, declaring the answer an unavailable fourth option, and accusing Luigi of lying when he points out that said fourth option did not exist for him to pick) which rubbed fans the wrong way and made them want to join Baby Mario when he starts bashing the gate with his hammer.
This reads like an Unintentionally Unsympathetic entry. Does the Star Gate really get that much hate, or is it just a Vocal Minority? Is he supposed to be hated?
- Baby Peach's special ability allows her to float using the wind, which usually only makes the player more likely to end up crashing headfirst into enemies or simply fall straight to the ground because she sometimes doesn't catch the wind to float. The fact that her crying is even more obnoxious than Baby Mario's doesn't help matters.
This should be on Tier Induced Scrappy for Yoshi's Island DS. Not here.
- A less extreme example, but Neil in Mario Golf Advance Tour. From his irritating, sarcastic-sounding "Whoops!" when he gets a Bogey to his hideous character design, could they have made a less appealing player character? At least at the very beginning, the game gives you the option to play as the much less annoying Ella instead.
I notice some Weasel Words at the beginning. I think this is just one person’s opinion.
- Ukiki in Super Mario 64. On top of being a gigantic hindrance to the player in the Tall, Tall Mountain, he steals your hats with annoyingly cute dialogue and he's near-impossible to catch. Which makes it all the more satisfying to roast him using Yoshi's Fire Flower in the DS version.
Again, does this seem like one person’s complaining to you guys?
- Lubba from Super Mario Galaxy 2 gets some flak for being a Replacement Scrappy for Rosalina as well as constantly spouting bad jokes/puns, generic encouragement, and reminders to take a break or change the Wii Remote's batteries (though to be fair, that last one isn't exclusive to him). Some have even compared him to a Patrick Star knockoff. He has a few fans, but compared to his predecessor, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who prefers Lubba over Rosalina.
“Lubba gets SOME flak”. It makes me think that he isn’t an example of this at all. Really, he doesn’t really do anything to detriment the story (of what little story there is in this game)

After finally seeing the show all the way through, I thought I'd finally tackle an entry on Re:CREATORS
Thing is? The character in question still has a lot of fans even when taking all of the above into account, she even placed 3rd in a popularity poll taken near the end of the shows run. That's not even getting into the Jerkass Dissonance entry that mentions the exact same character and how people were happy with the end of her arc. The Re:Creators pages as a whole seem to have a somewhat biased view against her.
