Useful Tips:

  • Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

[up]I'd say that's a downplayed example.

Someone added these examples to WesternAnimation.Jerrys Cousin and I'm not 100% sure if they count. What do you all think?
* No-Sell: Downplayed. When a muscly Tom bashes Muscles upside the head, he is briefly seen being almost Squashed Flat, but he quickly gets up and retaliates.
** Later, when Tom sends three big, intimidating cats to fight Muscles, they initially give Muscles a run for his money, sending him flying across the room. Muscles simply marches back up to them and gives them a brutal offscreen beatdown.

this was added to Cuphead:

  • Harder Than Hard:
    • Think Simple and Regular Mode are tough? Expert Mode addS extra health to bosses and rally additional obstacles and/or enemies.
    • The unlockable "2-Strip" Mode makes the art more vintage color, at risk of pink parry objects turning orange and a bit more difficult to find.
      • The unlockable "Black & White" Mode takes this Up To Eleven, making the art resemble the first ever cartoons but makes the pink objects impossible to find. Just try finishing a battle on Expert.
    • Defeating the secret boss in ''The Delicious Last Course" will turn the purchasable Broken Relic into a Cursed Relic, randomizing your weapons throughout a single battle and starting you off with 1 HP!

aside from using the deprecated Up To Eleven and some grammar/formatting issues, i don't think any of these are actual examples (optional mode that's harder than hard mode). the first one is just a standard hard mode, the second and third are Cosmetic Award for a Self-Imposed Challenge (it's completely optional and no further reward is given), and the last one is a sidequest that's only temporary (when you beat enough bosses with the Cursed Relic, it upgrades to the Divine Relic, which still randomizes your weapons but gives you your usual HP and a ton of buffs). would it be okay to cut this?

For the YMMV page for Peace's Apprentice, there is only one example, with it being a Fandom-Specific Plot. All it basically says is "this fic uses a common plot point seen in My Hero Academia fanfics". Should it be cut?

Here's an example from Mildred Avalone's folder in Characters.Arcana Heart. For the record, I didn't add it. However, I did edit it once and I want to double-check if it really is an example.
  • A God Am I: Not quite a goddess, but when she gets the powers of an Archangel, she starts saying things basically along this line:
Mildred: What is this feeling? Is this... Is this what it's like to become an Archangel? The power of the Elementals is within me!! I am eternal!!!

^ I took a peek into a couple of folders on whether angelic beings count for the trope and it seems there are examples of angelic beings (or beings that resemble angels like Mega Man Zero's Copy-X) developing god complexes.

And it fits with the trope's guideline from its description:

Usually being a Physical God and declaring oneself to be a God isn't this trope unless the physical gods in the setting are not omnipotent while this particular one believes it is omnipotent.
So I'm assuming the rule follows with other powerful beings like angels, demons, etc. so it should count.

Authority Equals Asskicking question. Does this trope mean "If I am the leader consequently I am the strongest" or "I am the leader and I am the strongest"? I am trying to do a wick check on this, and will do one on the counterpart Asskicking Equals Authority, and I want to make sure I am judging the examples correctly. P->Q is a different logical premise than P^Q. and some of these examples seem to show more a correlation between the the antecedent and consequent, but not the causation the trope defiinition requires, like this one:

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Princesses Nefersaynefer and Kweenlatifer from the kingdom of Kush easily keep up with the male racers, and can even hold their own in a brawl with the Romans.

It states both ladies are leaders and are fighters, but doesn't say they are strong because they are high ranking members of their nation.

I fear I might over think this.

Edit: I've just realised the trope has been taken to the TRS, so don't worry about this question.

    Can Ignore

Is this an example?

  • Would Hit a Girl: He doesn't care whether he hits a boy or a girl, so long as it's a Schnee.

It's from RWBY: The entry is about an unnamed character (known only as "the White Fang lieutenant") who has an Elite Mook fight with one of main characters (Weiss Schnee) during the season climax when the heroes (all action girls) try to stop a White Fang plot against their city. All four girls split up and fight different opponents; thanks to the White Fang and Schnee family having been at war for years, the lieutenant states he's always wanted to kill a Schnee just before they fight. They fight, she loses, and is rescued by a team-mate. After that fight, the lieutenant is never seen again except in a flashback (unrelated to Weiss).

Given that WHAG is a characterisation trope, I should point out that the lieutenant, being an unnamed bit character who pops up for one fight and one unrelated flashback episode, has almost no characterisation and almost no lines. Normally, a mook fighting a main character for a one-off fight would probably make the entry pointless since it's not really characterising anything. But this might? We don't know what he'd think about fighting a girl under normal circumstances, we only know that he relishes the chance to kill a member of the Schnee family. So, it does characterise him, but is this the right trope for him?

So, the YMMV page for The Matrix has the following argument: "The protagonists ruthlessly kill dozens of law enforcement agents and security guards without a hint of remorse. As far as the films are concerned (and as Morpheus explicitly states), every person that is still plugged into the Matrix is part of the system and therefore can be overtaken by Agents, even if they are not even aware of the Matrix's existence and thus technically innocent."

Aside from the fact that a collective group, rather than a specific individual, is being hit with the Designated Hero label, this entry convenient leaves out the fact that the protagonists are unable to explain that the titular Matrix is a simulated reality and that humans are unwitting prisoners inside the Matrix, lest they will get called crazy. The reason they get hunted down by Agents is because they risk breaking The Masquerade. This is why Neo's character arc in the first Matrix is so meaningful. He willingly searches out the truth about the Matrix and once he discovers the truth, he can't bring himself to get back into the Matrix, lest he would spend the rest of his life in a lie.

So, what do you think?

Designated Hero's first sentence says that they are a character who "despite being billed as the hero, doesn't do anything heroic". The characters in The Matrix do lots of heroic things; the collateral damage to "plugged-in" humans is certainly problematic but doesn't by itself qualify for the trope. It could go towards What the Hell, Hero? if they are called out in the narrative, although that doesn't happen.

[up](5x) Technically, that's still characterization-related, partially since Wouldn't Hit a Girl exists for a reason.

Having a problem with this example from Pyotr's folder on Characters.Hunter The Parenting because it almost fits and there's definitely something there

  • Knight of Cerebus: In the second episode, from the point when Marckus sets Licks up to fight and feed on one another. It is played for laughs up until Pyotr joins, his brutality and sadism as he disposes of Apeboy and Shitbeard making everyone but Door uncomfortable. Him diablerizing on the two makes even Big D horrified, as he realizes exactly what that means.

Like Pyotr is the scariest of the Starter Villain group, he lasts the longest, and any comedy in eps 2 and 3 doesn't come from him and even in ep 1 the tone noticeably darkens when he's around. There's definitely a noteworthy contrast between him and the other three Arc Villains. My problem is that I'm not sure that fits even the recently TRS'd definition of Knight of Cerebus, Since he's still a Starter Villain who is introduced in Episode one trying to eat a child on front of his father
