Do you have trouble remembering the difference between Deathbringer the Adorable and Fluffy the Terrible?
Do you have trouble recognizing when you've written a Zero-Context Example?
Not sure if you really have a Badass Bookworm or just a guy who likes to read?
Well, this is the thread for you. We're here to help you will all the finer points of example writing. If you have any questions, we can answer them. Don't be afraid. We don't bite. We all just want to make the wiki a better place for everyone.
Useful Tips:
- Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
- Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
- Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
- Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
- Wrong: Badass Adorable
- Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
- When is normally far less important than How.
- A character name is not an explanation.
- Wrong: Full Moon Silhouette: Diana
- Right: Full Moon Silhouette: At the end of her transformation sequence into Moon Princess Misty, Diana is shown flying across the full moon riding a rutabaga.
Other Resources:
For best results, please include why you think an example is iffy in your first post.
Also, many oft-misused tropes/topics have their own threads, such as Surprisingly Realistic Outcome (here) and Fan-Preferred Couple (here). Tropers are better able to give feedback on examples you bring up to specific threads.
For cleaning up examples of Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard, you must use their dedicated threads: Complete Monster Cleanup, Magnificent Bastard Cleanup.

I have another Shin Sakura Wars example that I would like to propose here.
While Azami Mochizuki usually wears a yellow maid outfit, she serves as a ninja of the Mochizuki clan and doesn't do any maid work.
Does this count as a true subversion of the Ninja Maid trope?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Characters.Cowboy Bebop lists Spike, Jet, and Faye as Badass Adorable. That's gross misuse, right?
Keet cleanupZuxtron: Actionized Sequel refers specifically to an increase in action-based combat, events and situations. A turn-based game switching to real time isn't an example, because technically the amount of action is unaffected. It would only fit if there was little combat in the turn-based installment and then more in the real-time sequel.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Pretty sure this example on Super Mario 3D Land isn't valid. Could it go under Hailfire Peaks or something?
- Crapsaccharine World: Say hello to World 8-2, a lush, grassy meadow filled to the brim with flamethrowers.
This doesn't have context, right?
- Fanfic.Bad Prediction AU:
- Cool Starship: The design of the Human Zoo◊ was greatly expanded upon after Pink was found out, made much larger to house a bigger capacity of humans.
- I say it needs context. There's nothing about being a Starship, nor how it's Cool.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576In canon, it's not even a starship. It's a space station.
- Yes. So how it gets turned into a Starship should be noted too...
Is Fish out of Temporal Water, a plot or character trope? It's really hard to avert a Plot trope...
And she gets knowledge from Neural Implanting by some Instant Expert machine apparently.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: Averted with Laureline, who, despite being from the Middle Ages, flawlessly adapts to life in the 28th century.
"If there is any regret in my life, not having no big regret would be my regret."
Ignoring the kinda bad translation, I'm pretty sure this is some flavor of playing with I Regret Nothing, but not which one?
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Does Assassins Are Always Betrayed count if the betrayed party isn't strictly speaking an assassin, but definitely did the physical work for the Big Bad?
In Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, the Player Character is a Soviet general who's given command of ever-more dangerous combat missions by the Premier, including the arrest of the traitor general Krukov, spearheading the invasion and defeat of Imperial Japan, and the Aggressive Negotiations with the Allies. After that last one, the Premier turns against you before you can turn against him (he doesn't outright say the PC is more popular than the Premier, but it's hinted at afterwards).
In the backstory of Warhammer 40K, the Thunder Warriors were proto-Space Marines who helped the Emperor reconquer Terra, but were quietly euthanized both for PR purposes (making the Emperor's victory more impressive) and because of their psychological instability.

I'd say definitely not for the first one. I don't know if "leader turns on their successful subordinate for fear they're a potential threat" is a trope we have yet, but I think it's definitely a tropable concept and fairly distinct from Assassins Are Always Betrayed.
The Crapsaccharine World example from 3D Land is unfitting. It doesn't fit as Hailfire Peaks either, because the overarching theme of the level is still Green Hill Zone and little else (the flamethrowers are just a setpiece). I'd cut it altogether.

135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Sounds like a corollary to The Starscream. Definitely tropable.
I added this to Kayfabe, please can someone check this is an example, even though it's about a situation rather than a specific show:
- In effect, all pre-recorded radio presented "as live" (recorded in Real Time earlier in the week, but aired on another day and presented to the listener via radio station sites and presented as if it were an actual, live show) with occasional split links referencing local news and in-jokes/references is a form of this, but downplayed. Chris Tarrant had a networked show on Real Radio network in England, Wales and Scotland from 2007 to 2010 which was pre-recorded, but to the average listener sounded live and local.
Over on AudienceAlienatingPremise.Anime And Manga Lyrical Nanoha is listed despite it being popular in Japan and a cult classic in the West. Did it really alienate everyone? The trope page mentions how awesome Nanoha is, and the second paragraph is gushy. "What makes Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha unique is the detail put into the fight scenes, much to the delight of the seinen market's nostalgia for grand space battles and fist-pumping action. Many people who can't stand typical Magical Girl shows enjoy Nanoha because of this. It is also unusual among more dramatic and action-packed Magical Girl Warrior series in that Nanoha loves her job, enjoys her powers, and makes responsible decisions regarding them extending into adulthood."

The Protomen enhanced my life.Hey guys, I’m not sure this is the right place to post this, however, what would you call the following concept(similar to a catch 22) or similar to fake it till you make it:
You want to become famous but there’s nothing exciting going on in your life. So you make up a story that you already are famous and suddenly people believing you, since some people think you are famous a tv network offers you a contract and you actually become famous.

Audience-Alienating Premise is misused to a hilarious degree. I'd cut that.
I'm currently building a work page for Pokémon Talk. I need help with a pothole.
Which is a better pothole for "the show just doesn't make sense"? Shrug of God, or Voodoo Shark? It's definitely not Negative Continuity, because while the show is very silly, it still has a consistent canon.
Edited by DelphineTheDelphox on Oct 21st 2019 at 4:02:36 AM
RIP KissAnime.I don't know, but you should remove the Hilarious in Hindsight pothole if this is meant to go on a work page.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. But they acknowledge it In-Universe.

RIP KissAnime.
Does Actionized Sequel refer to action strictly in the sense of fight scenes, explosions, etc. or could it also include a video game sequel introducing more action-based mechanics such as switching from turn-based to real-time combat?
