Culinary Kakkoii is a short collaborative Visual Novel created in Ren'Py by Tenshi Hanka, Coco, and Gissy Eva. It’s a visual novel game that is basically a cooking show and you (the player) are the judge. You get to decide which dish is the best. And the characters in the game have an... interesting way of cooking. It’s mostly comedy with some surprises here and there.

It was created and released March of 2017. It is available to download for Mac and Windows only, although the one of the creators would say there will be a Linux version... as long as you just say so..

It also has a sequel known as Saute Sugoi

Culinary Kakkoii contains examples of:

  • Animesque: 7 out of 9 humanoids in this game have this trope
    • Kaechi may count as this as well, to a point Marly commented on how big his eyes are
  • Ax-Crazy: 2/3rds of Team C (Zed and Sashimi). You may wanna pray for Kasca.
  • Big Fun: Downplayed. Bento is chubbier than the rest of the cast, but is as positive and amicable as the rest of Team B.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Bento does this a lot.
  • Butt-Monkey: Bruce gets poorly treated by Marly for how average he is. Gustav had one quips at him before quickly apologizing.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: There’s something….off about Marly.
  • Cooking Show: The foundation for this Visual Novel
  • Cool Loser: Dry Ice may act cool but deep down, he is a weeaboo.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Zed's dish is a steak. With plums.
  • Crush Blush: Dry Ice has this towards Chiyomi.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: : Sashimi’s past gets revealed after you fought her in one of the routes that leads to automatically choosing Zed's dishes.
    • Her mother died and father never loved her. She has picked the weak to make herself feel better but it never brought her true happiness. She became a chef later on and while people say she was an awful person, they kept her around because she was a great chef. Sashimi was hoping that being a chef would impress her father but it didn't work. Her father never wanted a daughter to begin with. Yikes.....
  • Dark Secret: Marly’s dark secret is when making his fried rings, he uses squid meat.
    • It is revealed in one of the secret endings is that he cut his own fingers to get the squid meat. That’s disturbing.....
  • Deadpan Snarker: Bruce is like this towards Marly
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Bruce is not fond of the fact is called "Average Joe" (by the narrator), "Joe" (by Marly), or "Joey Mc-Bucey" (by Chiyomi).
  • Giant Food: Sashimi's bowl of ramen. It can feed more then one person!
  • Given Name Reveal: If you play the route where you choose his dish for the final round, it will be revealed that Dry Ice’s real name is “Kakkomamie”, much to his embarrassment.
    • If you choose his dish as the winner, he changes his name.
  • Gratuitous Japanese : It's the dang name, for crying out loud!
    • To give proper examples, "Dry Ice" and Zed are the biggest examples of this.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The judge of this game is you so you get to name them
  • Hurricane of Puns: One secret ending sees the player character on a date with Gustav, making hand puns the whole time. Gustav is not happy.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat - Subverted. Bento aspired to cook because of video games like Super Chef Turbo 5™ and Cooking Papa™. However, he did not cook particularly well...
  • Kawaiiko: Chiyomi embodies this, so much.
  • Knife Nut: Zed says that his only friends are knives.
  • Lack of Empathy: Zed makes it explicit that he doesn't care about how other people feel. His reaction to Sashimi's backstory and death is "Wow. Lame."
  • Lethal Chef: Marly and Bento are the biggest examples of this
  • Literal-Minded: When Zed calls Sashimi a pea-brain, she responds by telling him that her brain is not a pea.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Zed counts as this as he has Zebra qualities. Though, he's not intended to be as cute as those who has this trope...
  • Love Confession: Dry Ice has this with Chiyomi in one of the secret endings
  • Magical Girl: Chiyomi
  • Meganekko: Kasca counts as this.
  • Mood Whiplash: Immediately after your second meeting with Team B, you walk in on Zed and Sashimi in the middle of a knife fight.
  • Multiple Endings: As well as some secret endings
  • Nice Guy:
    • For someone with a hand for a head, Gustav is the nicest member of Team A.
    • Team B as a whole is very friendly.
  • Oblivious to Love: Despite her finding Dy Ice to be really cool, when you ask if she has a chance with him, Chiyomi has her doubts, feeling that he may prefer woman older than her, despite some really obvious hints that he does have a crush on her.
  • Odd Friendship: While it's a little downplayed, Team B works well with one another compared to the two other teams.
  • Only Sane Man: Kasca for Team C.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Kaechi, Chiyomi's older brother may count as this if you chose the route where you killed Sashimi
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: The entire shtick behind Bruce is he is the most average person in this entire game. His food is even average compared to everone else. (Grant you, not lethal but it's not special)
  • Rule of Cool: “Dry Ice” embodies this. Or so we thought.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here!: If you choose the route on wanting to be friends with Sashimi, she leaves the scene, only to let Zed make his dish for the final round.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sweet Tooth: Chiyomi. She loves pastries so much that she decided to bake them herself
    • Genius Sweet Tooth: As Marly was chewing Dry Ice for his dish for not using heat for his dish, Chiyomi brought a good point about how some foods are made from being frozen, bringing up pies as an example, much to Marly’s utter shock and ignorance.
  • Token Good Teammate: Kasca for Team C by a hard long shot
  • Token Mini-Moe: Downplayed in some aspects. While Chiyomi invokes the moe qualities Up to Eleven, She's not particularly that small.
  • Tsundere: There's an option in the game where the player are this trope!
  • Unreliable Narrator: More questionable but that's what the narrator of this game is
  • Verbal Tic: Zed laughs with “kekekekekeke”. There’s even a route where you asked why he laughs like that. Indeed.
