Every episode of the podcast features various references to pop culture.


  • Episode 29's title "California Schemin'" references "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & the Papas.
  • Episode 2's title "Our Flag Means Content" references Our Flag Means Death. The episode discusses the show throughout it.
  • In Episode 30, Andy says that the points don’t matter in the quiz game, just like in Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
  • Andy quotes Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure at the end of Episode 39 when he says "be excellent to each other".
  • Episode 5 is called "101 Questions About Dalmatia", referencing 101 Dalmatians.
  • Episode 13 is called "We Bought a Zoo", referencing the movie of the same name.
  • Andy references the Nicki Minaj song "Starships" in "A Quick Lesson on Flag Organization" when he says that "Flags, much like starships, were meant to fly".
  • A UK subdivision listed on the Flagventory is Blackstool, a fictitious city in England that Tobias in Arrested Development claimed to be from as his character Mrs. Featherbotom.
  • Andy compares the flag of the union between Norway and Sweden to The Call of Cthulhu, as describing it causes anyone to go insane.
  • At the end of the first episode, Andy and Nick reference the song "Inside Out" by Eve 6 by saying "Rendezvous then I'm through with you". The episode's title "Herring Salad in a Blender" references the lyric "heart in a blender" from the same song.
  • The background of videos features some merchandise in Andy's room, including a Pokéball mug and a Darth Vader figure.

  • Episode 18 is called "Oops, All Ohio!", referencing the Cap'n Crunch cereal Oops, All Berries.
  • Episode 11 is called "Flags on a Plane", referencing Snakes on a Plane.
  • In Episode 3, Andy says that the Isle of Man sounds like something from Paradise Lost, and Kickassatron compares its flag to the giant foot from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
  • Andy and Bryant Smith make multiple references to WWE in Episode 4.
  • Bryant calls the flag of Sri Lanka the Fortnite flag.
  • Kevin says that the flag of Ježov looks like an armadillo fused with a Critter.

  • In the third bonus episode, Andy says that the horse in the flag of the Moravian-Silesian Region reminds him of BoJack Horseman.
  • The title of Episode 41, "Flori-Banner Sure", references the reality show Floribama Shore.
  • Episode 33 is called "Flags of the World Wide Web", which comes from the website Flags of the World. FOTW serves as the main focus of the episode.
  • FFBC 5 is called "Tiers of the Kingdom", referencing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
  • In Episode 42, Andy says that the flag of Kyrgyzstan looks like the Xbox 360 logo.
  • The Laser Kiwi flag has been a topic of discussion on multiple occasions as the host and guest describe the kiwi as a cryptid and said they would join a cult dedicated to the flag.

  • Graham describes Swiss flags featuring "Goats and lions and bears," to which Andy replies "Oh my!", referencing a famous quote from The Wizard of Oz.

  • Episode 52 is titled "Derry Furls" referencing the show Derry Girls.
