"To the city of Titans you will go, to the days of future past and back through Apocalypse. See the end of ends, and then battle my illusion."
—Count Logan
—Count Logan
End of Hatred, Beginning of Hope is a crossover between X-Men, Teen Titans (2003), and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic written by Legendbringer, with various cameos from other characters across the DC and Marvel universes.
This story provides examples of:
- Adaptation Species Change: Terra is a mutant in this story, which explains her powers.
- Adaptational Sexuality: Terra's two high school friends (Jackie and Jillian) are dating.
- Admiring the Abomination: Twilight geeks out over the Sentinel currently attacking them. Applejack is quick to tell her to focus on fighting it.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Wolverine likes to cut up racists, sexists, and trolls who write fanfiction of shows they hate.
- Avengers Assemble: In the first chapter, The Mane 6 unite as The Rainbooms to defeat the Mane-iac with their new superpowers.
- Big Bad: Supposedly, like the original fic it was based on, Count Logan. But it is the Voice that is shown to be the entity in charge and the driving force behind the main plot of the fanfic.
- Bullying a Dragon: A couple of racists thought it was a good idea to taunt the guy with metal claws for being a mutant. Wolverine quickly makes them pay for it.
- Composite Character: The X-Men are portrayed as the '90s cartoon incarnation but with the costumes designed by Jim Lee. In another sense, they take the Doom Patrol's role in The End of Ends.
- Crazy-Prepared: Twilight left Spike a list of various back-up plans, detailing what to do when: Twilight is kidnapped or mind-controlled, the Mane Six is kidnapped, Twilight going Nightmare, Twilight is killed and split into two entities, the Mane Six being sent to another dimension, etc.
- Deconstruction Fic: Similar to how Fall of Starfleet, Rebirth of Friendship, another one of the author's works, deconstructed My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic, this story serves to deconstruct The End of Ends.
- Discard and Draw: Upon entering the DC/Marvel world, Rainbow Dash loses her Super-Speed in exchange for stronger Weather Manipulation abilities.
- Dynamic Entry: The X-Men introduce themselves to the Titans and the Rainbooms by destroying the Sentinels threatening them.
- Dramatic Irony: Rainbow Dash asks what kind of superheroes need training for their powers. Considering what one of the components of this crossover is...
- Failed Attempt at Drama: Count Logan's attempt at a dramatic introduction to the heroes falls completely flat due to everyone pointing out how ridiculous his outfit is.
- Hero of Another Story: Legendbringer states in an author's note that Jubilee, Shadowcat, Supergirl and Batgirl are off having their own adventures during the events of this story.
- How Do I Shot Web?: Subverted. Rainbow considers figuring out how her powers as Zapp work before deciding against that since the Mane-iac is currently attacking.
- Humans Are Bastards: Twilight is shown examples of humanity's cruelty in one of her dreams: racism against mutants, Captain America getting arrested, refusal to believe redemption is possible, and Green Lantern's life getting torn apart by tragedy. An unidentified voice tries to convince her as to why friendship will fail.
- Let Me Get This Straight...: Cyborg upon learning about Equestria and its inhabitants.Cyborg: So, let me get this straight. You six are all from a world where each one of you is a pony and all Ungulates can talk. Two of you are pegasi, two are earth ponies, one is a unicorn, and one is a winged unicorn?
- Let's You and Him Fight: Averted. The Rainbooms meet the Teen Titans and later the X-Men without any circumstances that force any of the groups to fight one another. The author talks about how this trope doesn't make any sense.I have often wondered about cliche of when two sets of heroes meet, they must fight each other. You would think, the world being as it is, that one would not try and dissuade a possible alliance with a potential ally. You would instead want to befriend them, or to talk things over as a way to form unity. After all, while they differ in ideals, I would like to think they are unified in the chance to do good...
- Mythology Gag:
- In "to acQuire knowledge", Beast has to leave a class he is teaching and hands over teaching duty to a hyper-intelligent cephalopod.
- J. Jonah Jameson's statement about not trusting heroes who conceal their identity with a mask is a reference to a similar line from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
- Recurring Dreams: Jean and Twilight have dreams that deal with their dark counterparts.
- Jean is having nightmares about being taken over by Dark Phoenix.
- Twilight dreams about another version of her encouraging her to give in to her own inner darkness and her power to force others to follow her.
- Required Secondary Powers:
- Rainbow tells Pinkie that because she has Super-Speed, her metabolism burns through calories much more quickly, and thus she needs to consume more food.
- Pinkie Pie possesses a force field that protects her from the effects of friction due to her connection to the Speed Force. Also, while her body is protected, her clothes are not (unless they're skintight) and tend to catch fire whenever she runs.
- As Twilight notes, Rarity must have a firm understanding of whatever she wishes to make an energy construct of.
- Seen It All:
- The Mane Six are so used to bizarre things happening to them that they don't bat an eye at suddenly ending up in a different dimension, being given superpowers, and then fighting a supervillain.
- A similar case applies to the X-Men.
- Same goes for Linkara.
- And the Titans.
- The trope is particularly demonstrated when the X-Men and Teen Titans learn about the Equestrians and their homeworld and hardly bat an eye.Logan: Trust me. Knowing that the new superhero team in town are a bunch of ponies in another world? That is probably the least crazy thing I've heard. And I can bet that is the least crazy thing the Titans had ever to deal with.
- Shout-Out:
- In "Emergence of the heroes", the reporter who interviews the Rainbooms is named Sophie Jansen.
- In "to a better Understanding", Linkara is a Minnesota hero whom The Rainbooms ask for directions.
- This story makes Count Logan being an expy of Count Bleck even more explicit when the Titans note that Beast Boy sounded like he was reading a script during the moment he was supposedly angry with them.
- Silly Rabbit, Cynicism Is for Losers!: Twilight's response to the voice in her dreams trying to convince her that friendship will fail and how she should bend everyone to her will.
- Starter Villain: The Mane-iac is the first-ever villain The Rainbooms fight.
- Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Word of God states that the various superheroes rarely, if ever, interact with the other heroes outside of their designated city.
- Take That!:
- Twilight and Pinkie make fun of Count Logan's outfit when they first meet him. Rarity details all the ways Logan's costume doesn't work in "to stand togEther".
- Apparently, Wolverine likes to beat up people who write fanfics of shows they hate.
- Twilight calling out her alternate self for getting angry about how her friends acted during "A Canterlot Wedding" is one towards every Accusation Fic about said episode.
- Weirdness Magnet: Lampshaded. Spider-Man wonders why every city he visits has something strange occurring when the Mane-iac is attacking.
- Year Inside, Hour Outside: Doctor Strange explains to Twilight that a few days inside the Astral Plane will only be a few hours in the real world. This gives plenty of time for him to teach her about his world's magic.
