    Juzo Inui

Juzo Inui / Thirteen / Verrat Dreizhen

Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe (Japanese), Chris Ryan (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/juzo_inui_168460.jpg
An amnesiac private detective who works as a "Resolver," taking on cases relating to Extended and priding himself on always seeing a case to completion.
  • Advice Backfire: Juzo tells Tetsuro to throw tantrums like the kid he is instead of resigning himself to his fate. Not long afterwards, Tetsuro takes that advice and uses Harmony on Juzo when Juzo makes a decision he disagrees with.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Juzo has no memory of his past before the war.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses one arm to Seven and another later to Victor Steinberg's auxiliary brain. Luckily, he has backups.
  • Anti-Hero: Juzo is a mercenary who's Only in It for the Money, but nevertheless he comes across as fairly principled despite his flaws, and protects other Extended knowing it's a thankless task.
  • Arm Cannon: Juzo's left arm can turn into a revolver.
  • Badass and Child Duo: With Tetsuro and, to a different extent, Mary.
  • Badass Longcoat: Juzo sports a pretty cool looking duster, as befitting a Cyberpunk protagonist.
  • Batman Cold Open: Juzo chasing off Extended thugs who are bothering the local doctor.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Presents a cool, tough guy facade, but cares a lot about his friends, particularly Mary and Tetsuro.
  • Brutal Honesty: He doesn't sugarcoat his words for anyone. One notable example is when he's preparing to face Mary's brother, Victor. Juzo tells Mary upfront that he may have to kill him.
  • Celibate Hero: To the extent that even hearing stories about other people's relationships is enough to make him uncomfortable. When women literally throw themselves across him, he tends to continue the conversation as if nothing is happening.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Literally. Juzo's head is a gun, the trigger of which he can't pull on his own. At the end of the first volume, he tells Tetsuro to do so.
  • Cyborg: Even in a setting where mechanical enhancements appear to be fairly common, Juzo stands out due to having so many extensions that he needs to carry a license to justify them. He's specifically noted to be an older model from the Great War.
  • The Determinator: Juzo refuses to compromise on his principles, and thanks to his Super-Soldier body he can back this up by being near impossible to keep down. Once he takes a job for a client, he will complete it, even if the obstacle is the client themselves.
  • Heroic Build: He has a very big upper body.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: During the war, one of his roles was killing other Gun Slave Units.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Juzo is ultimately a good man, but he has a fairly cynical view of his job and the world around him.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Juzo is quick on his feet despite his size.
  • Luminescent Blush: Juzo gets this despite not actually having a face, when his client kisses him chastely. It's a bit of a Running Gag when women flirt with him.
  • One-Winged Angel: Juzo's full combat form.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Juzo" just means "thirteen", which was his name as a Gun Slave Unit during the war. The name Juzo itself was just a nickname given to him by his partner. His true name is Verrat Dreizhen.
  • People Puppets: Tetsuro turns Juzo into one early on using Harmony, and as soon as he drops his control and they're in a safe location Juzo makes him promise never to do it to him again.
  • Power Limiter: Why Juzo smokes, which is an unusual usage of that brand of cigarettes even for Extended.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Presumably Extendeds don't have to worry about lung cancer. Justified, since the cigarettes Juzo smokes are medicinal ones, and from what we've seen most of his torso is machinery on the inside.
  • The Stoic: Generally comes across this way. Though as Mary points out - to his surprise - he's very expressive to people who know what to look for.
  • Super-Deformed: The art style of Juzo's head becomes this way when feeling awkward.
  • Super-Soldier: As a Gun Slave Unit, he has a vast amount of combat cybernetic enhancements. It's heavily implied that the Gun Slave Units were a large part of the reason their side won the Great Offscreen War.
  • Super-Strength: Strong enough to toss around Extendeds twice his size, as well as catch a very large piece of debris that would have crushed Mary.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Juzo constantly worries about getting wet and rusting his head, even though he isn't sure if he'll rust or not. That and he requires someone to fire the trigger on his head.
  • You Are Number 6: In the past, he's known by the alias of "Thirteen" or "Machine Thirteen" among the Gun Slave Units.

The director of EMS, a branch of the Reconstruction Agency tasked with enforcing Extended law and regulating Over-Extended.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Olivier's habit of carrying around extremely smelly canned food comes in handy when she opens a can in front of a group of pursuing EMS officers, who panic thinking it's a toxic gas.
  • Cleavage Window: Her top has a gap in the middle to show off her cleavage.
  • Fair Cop: She's a cop who's usually willing to overlook Juzo's less sanctioned activities because she knows he's a good person.

Mega Armed Tokisada

Voiced by: Kenyuu Horiuchi (Japanese), Christopher Sabat (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mega_armed_tokisada_171739.jpg
The first person to undergo full-body Extension during the war, Tokisada is a popular celebrity considered a hero by the public.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Is called "Mega Armed" because of the large number of built-in weapons his Extensions provide.
  • Loved by All: Tokisada is a popular celebrity considered a hero by the public.
  • Villain Has a Point: Armed isn't wrong when he says that without him championing the Extended cause from the get-go, treatment of Extended might be worse than it already is.
