Happy Hope Studios, commonly shortened to HH Studios or simply HH, is a tumblr-based roleplay based on the visual novel Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Twenty-two elite high school students are on their way to Happy Hope Studios to participate in live television interviews when things go horribly wrong... They wake up inside the film studio, trapped by twin robots Monty and Sally, and they are informed that they will be trapped there indefinitely. The only way out: murder a fellow student and get away with it!

HH Studios began on the 18th of June 2014 and was wrapped up with a trial summary in June 2015. It now has an in-progress sequel, Mr Monty's Neighbourhood, which started in May 2016.

Aihara Rin

Super High School Level Archer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7a_2212.png
I care not whether you think my talent is useful. I practice for my own enjoyment. The rest is a mere afterthought.

Rin hails from a very old, wealthy, and traditional family. Both sides of his family are deeply rooted in the samurai caste, and Rin is quite proud of and invested in the family history. He is very serious and composed, and rarely shows any outward emotion, maintaining a frosty exterior. Rin began practising kyudo at a very young age; he is among the most skilled practitioners in the world and is currently undefeated in competition. He is revealed to be Kita Yasei's murderer in the second chapter 5 trial, but commits suicide before Monty can execute him.

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Or at least they're not very nice.
  • Berserk Button: Don't touch Rin's bow...
Rin: My bow is extremely important to me, one of the few material objects I hold dear. This infantile guessing game is not attractive in the least, and I refuse to be calm about- B-b-broken? If you fuckers broke my bow I’ll- I’ll-
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Atieno literally asks Rin if he's an elf, and Rin slaps him across the face in response. (He apologizes later.)
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Potentially. He's becoming less icy now that he has the means to practice his sport again.
  • Mirthless Laughter: Perhaps one of the more unnerving responses to learning about the mutual killing scenario.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: His formal, contraction-less speech is peppered with occasional snarky barb or rarer F-bomb.
Rin: Amane-shi... with the utmost respect, you are wasting our oxygen. May we move on?

Amane Natsuhiko

Super High School Level Painter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natsu_2755.png

"Can we be friends…no matter what the future holds?”

Though not a painter in the traditional sense, Amane Natsuhiko comes from a family of famous artists, so it's only natural he would get some of that talent. His specialty? Painting the detailing on carousel horses. His work is renowned by carnivals and fairs, and his speed and skill surely show through. He's been able to complete four entire carousels in his lifetime - and is looking to paint evermore. He is accidentally killed by Bando Yukie in chapter four when she tried to prevent him from committing suicide.

  • Better Manhandle the Murder Weapon: Amane's duty as the mole of chapter 2. Not only does he manhandle the murder weapon, but he moves the whole crime scene. Uh, with some help.
  • Camp Gay: Admires men quite a bit. No surprise there, he's gay!
  • Kill It with Fire: Threatened to Anemone-chan, ends up just being Natsu himself, although, DOUBLE-SPOILER, the Monty file claims he died by suffocation from a broken neck rather than burning, and the flames didn't reach the inside of the corpse horse. He was actually dead by the time the fire started.
  • Never Suicide: The broken neck leads Rin to believe that he might have hanged himself, but of course the truth is far worse.
  • Only Friend: Suzume (type two, in that she was the only person who seemed to be able to tolerate him).

Matsui Atieno

Super High School Level Fletcher

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/atieno_5526.png
(quote)

He survives the studio and leaves after the final trial.

  • The Navigator: However, he does have the Savvy perk, so who knows which is really most applicable here.

Nekoda Koya

Super High School Level Cat Burglar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koya_2696.png
...!!

He is executed in the first chapter five trial when he insists on dying in Kanna's place, after she confesses to murdering Hoshi Haruka.

  • Animal Motifs: His second name is Nekoda and he's a Cat Burglar.
  • Big Brother Instinct: An inversion, since he's the little brother to Kanna, but is highly protective of her still.
Koya: …I’ll keep you safe too, Nee-chan.
  • Is That a Threat?: To Yasei during the Chapter 4 trial.
Koya: A-are...? Are you /threatening/ me? [Sounds surprised rather than mad.]
  • Prone to Tears: Highly emotional, brought to tears just by being scolded by his sister, and he's close to tears after Sally arrives too.

Otoko Kakemono

Super High School Level Honours Student

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cakemoney_3452.png
(quote)

He is executed in chapter two for murdering Sanouk Ananada.

Sanouk Ananada

Super High School Level Embroiderer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nooknook_7840.png
I didn't think that I'd get an invitation to Hope's Peak... I didn't know they looked internationally. Regardless, it's an honor!

Nickname: NookHe is murdered by Otoko Kakemono in chapter two.

Tatsu Ryou

Super High School Level Robot Operator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryou_7582.png
(quote)

Ryou is one of the most controversial operators in the world of Robot Combat. Brought up around a team of animatronics appearing on the briefly-popular Machine Wars show, Ryou built his first fleaweight robot on his own in elementary school. When there was a problem with the rest of Tatsu Dream Robotics’ visas, Ryou was tapped to pilot their father’s Mighty Dragoon to victory.

Since the end of the show, he’s led the team in work on a new heavyweight competitor- Lucky Dagger. The robot’s devastating arsenal of wedges, spikes, and lifting arms quickly led the team to a controversial victory at the second annual Robot Championship Combat Mech-War Pay Per View event. The finish seemed such a wash that Ryou was called out and challenged to a rematch, which he accepted just before heading off to one of the most prestigious academies in Japan. He is executed in Chapter 4, despite being uninvolved with the crime, due to winning that chapter's mystery viewer poll.

  • Dark Secret: In chapter three's motive, Monty reveals that the championship win that Ryou was so proud of was not actually entirely fair? "You been hidin’ evidence ‘bout that incident in the champ-ion-ship match, ain’t ya? Why, if the fellas in charge found out…" So far neither Monty nor Ryou has elaborated any further. And they apparently never will.
  • Killed Off for Real: Thanks to the poll, he was selected for execution in chapter 4 despite having nothing to do with the murder.
  • Sacrificial Lion: The only thing that led to his death was the poll. Needless to say, the students were shocked at the event.

Tsukioka Kazuya

Super High School Level Electric Bassist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/15a_494.png
I’m kinda just a guy to the side. Sure hope we get along anyway.

The quirky bassist of Evening Moonshine, the three-piece band taking the pop-punk world by storm. Born and raised in Shibuya, Tokyo, he and his parents lived in a small apartment. He was hardly a popular nor academic guy at school, his closest friends being Nozawa Yasue and Shunma Kouda. At the age of ten his music tastes led him to start taking bass lessons, and when Kouda heard of this, he roped Kazuya and Yasue into forming a band.

The band quickly got its popularity from its stellar solos and catchy beats, which Kazuya thought of while Kouda wrote the lyrics and Yasue handled special effects. After releasing a successful demo at the age of sixteen, the members of the band hit it big, performing at various concerts and releasing several hit singles which consistently topped the charts. He survives the studios, and leaves after the final trial.

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In the case of his motive secret, his fear of the dark. The others weren't as juicy as they could have been, but his was just silly.
  • Driving Question: Has one in that he's baffled as to where his bandmates went.
    • Yasue somehow ends up in Ouroboros Protocol. Continuity is a funny thing.
  • Grew a Spine: Yukie's death jolts him into action.
"He couldn’t stand back and let the brainiacs find the answer for him anymore."
  • Genre Savvy: Somewhat, thanks to all the ridiculous dramas he's watched.
  • Lead Bassist: Type A, sort of, though he and his equally-skilled bandmates seldom overshadow each other.
  • Nerd Glasses: Best exemplified here.
  • Odd Friendship: Had something of the sort with Yukie, who tried to kill him at first.

Yabe Junya

Super High School Level Ouendan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yabe_5979.png
On that note, I have possibly made a grave mistake in not asking your name! How can we be acquaintances if I do not even know your name? Unthinkable! Unfathomable! My apologies. I am Yabe Junya, in case you were curious. The Super High School Level Ouendan!"

He is accidentally killed by Umiko Onodera in chapter one while protecting her from Juneau Kanayurak, as she tried to intervene in their fight.

    Female Students

Aozora Suzume

Super High School Level Aviculturist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/small_smile_6854.png
Oh, like a bird? That’s so cute! Tweet tweet! Tweet tweet!

A fifteen-year-old girl from an island off the coast of Shikoku who specializes in the care of birds, mainly for conservation purposes. She's got a remarkable talent with birds, both taming and raising them, but has her head constantly in the clouds. She survives the studios and leaves after the final trial.

  • Big, Stupid Doodoo-Head:
    Suzume:"You- you- you rotten noodle!”
    • Later on evolves into the nickname "Rotten Noodle-chan"
  • Break the Cutie: She loses her first friend - Nook - in chapter 2, and for most of the case is convinced that it's her fault for being late to their meeting. She picks herself up afterwards, though.
    • Happens well and truly in chapter 4. Not only does Suzume lose the girl she shared a room with in chapter 3 (Yukie) and her friend Natsuhiko, but a fire is also started at the crime scene - fire being the very same means by which her parents died. Add on the fact that Natsuhiko committed suicide and Ryou's death despite his innocence, not to mention how harshly some of the cast treat her during the trial, and Suzume is thoroughly broken.
    • After Koya's death in chapter 5, Suzume is so broken that she does a complete 180 and ends up converting her pain and sadness into motivation to keep moving forward.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She assumes that Kanna is a "Super High School Level Rich Person", Koya was a secret agent and mistakes a painted sky for a real one, among other things.
    • Backfires in the second chapter five trial. Suzume doesn't see the problem in crossing herself off the list of suspects since she knows that she didn't do it; she doesn't quite understand how this action comes across to the other students, and Rin takes the opportunity to try and use her as a scapegoat.
  • The Cuckoo Lander Was Right: In the fourth trial she proposes the idea that maybe the killer was Monty or Sally, but it is swiftly dismissed by the studio's more intellectual individuals. After they bad end, it is revealed by Sally that Monty was indeed Yukie's killer, although not Natsuhiko's.
    • Happens again in the second chapter five trial, in which Suzume fervently defends Atieno's innocence and even directly accuses Rin. However, it is not until more evidence is discovered and a bad end proves Atieno's innocence that the other students believe her.
    • Generally, Suzume plays with this trope: she's scatterbrained, ditsy and certainly not the sharpest, but her good memory is a beneficial asset and, especially as she gets more experience of being in trials, she can have flashes of insight from time to time. However, she rarely has the evidence or argumentative skills to win the other students over.
  • Companion Cube: Kyuri the stuffed alligator and a taxidermied Wolpertinger. Called Ringo. She even talks to it.
  • Genius Ditz: Very, very talented with birds. Useless in pretty much every other area.
  • Honor Before Reason: She faces criticism in chapter four's trial for being so dedicated to keeping her promise to a dead Natsu.
  • I Gave My Word: In chapter 4's trial, she initially refuses to tell the other students that Natsu was only partially blind because she promised him not to tell. Eventually the other students coax the truth out of her. This actually hinders them rather than helping them, as they use it to reason that Natsu could have been the one to operate Lucky Dagger and kill Yukie; it leads to an incorrect guilty verdict for Natsu.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: She's never really had a friend before going to the studios, largely due to the isolation of her childhood. Well, no friends that didn't have wings, anyway.
  • Meaningful Name: Suzume means sparrow, while Aozora translates to 'blue sky'
  • Only Friend: To Natsuhiko (besides Anemone-chan, of course)
  • Plucky Girl: True in general, but soars to new heights in chapter five, when losing Koya (her only remaining close friend) pushes her so far into her misery that she completely turns around and gains a new-found vigour, becoming the most ardent believer in hope.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Raised by her grandmother alongside her aunt.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Her coping strategy for the mutual killing game. It doesn't last forever.
  • Sticky Fingers: Steals Kanna's bracelet impulsively. It's heavily implied (not least by her having the Snoop perk) that this wasn't a one-off incident, and it's all but confirmed when she talks of how her aunt always disapproved of her bad habit.
    • Rin uses this against her in the second chapter five trial, reasoning that the girl with a history of stealing could have been the one to steal an arrow to murder Yasei with. To which Suzume indignantly replies that she has put in lots of effort to keep her thievery in check.
  • Think Happy Thoughts: Overlaps with Stepford Smiler. Her sheer ability to force herself to be optimistic and ignore her own negative thoughts is one of the main reasons she's managed for so long without breaking completely.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Even after the murder announcement and the first motive, Suzume is convinced that the whole thing is just an elaborate bonding exercise and that they will all leave the studios as best friends. Her idealism is slowly worn down throughout the course of the roleplay before it shatters completely in chapter 4.

Bando Yukie

Super High School Level Kabuki Actress

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukie_7138.png
(quote)

The great granddaughter of a famous onnagata, Yukie is the first leader of an all-female troupe in nearly four centuries. After finding inspiration to write her critically-acclaimed play, The Ebbing Tide, the ban prohibiting women from performing in the theater was repealed. Following this movement, she joined the theater herself, using the skills that she had been taught by her mother and grandmother, which had supposedly been passed down since the dawn of Kabuki itself. Within several months, her abilities landed her the position of troupe leader, which she currently holds, although she temporarily passed the torch along once accepting the invitation to Happy Hope Studios. She accidentally killed Amane Natsuhiko as Chapter 4's mole, and then was killed by Monty.

Hiramaki Anri

Super High School Level Suit Actress

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anri_3346.png
(quote)

She is executed in chapter three's trial for killing Uranami Marika.

Hoshi Haruka

Super High School Level Inquiry Agent

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hoshi_7261.png
(quote)

She is murdered by Nekoda Kanna in chapter five.

Kawakamii Sayuri

Super High School Level Gardener

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sayuri_6070.png
“Kawakamii-san. Just Kawakamii-san and nothing but Kawakamii-san. Sayuri responding to Haruka using her first name.
She survives the studios, and leaves after the final trial.

  • Talking to Plants: Though Togemura (See: Togemura) doesn't verbally respond back, Sayuri may talk to him like he is.
  • Know Your Vines: (It hasn't happened yet but it should and she will)
  • The Unapologetic: May apologize to a respected figure of authority, but won't mean it
  • The Snark Knight: Uses a karma system for morals.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Though there are a bunch of people that helped Sayuri along the way, she hardly holds respect for any of them.
  • Wrench Wench: Only replace grease with dirt and wrench with cactus... probably doesn't count

Kita Yasei

Super High School Level Sword Swallower

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yasei_6083.png
…I don’t suppose…you have any spare armaments on your person.

In contrast to most child prodigies, Yasei always knew she was going to be successful, she just wasn't sure what with. Throughout her childhood she rapidly cycled through interests, pausing on kendo but ultimately deciding on sword swallowing after a trip to the circus as a teenager. She got her start performing at home and posting videos online, some of her videos going viral due to her combination of sword swallowing and pole dancing, but didn't officially get famous until she appeared on a talent contest show with that combination as her signature. Even despite her success, which led to her traveling constantly to appear on stage, Hope's Peak didn't extend the invitation until she turned 18, just after she returned from a long hiatus from performing. She is murdered by Aihara Rin in chapter five.

  • Closet Geek: Concerning The Crowning Game.
Yasei: And as for yourself…I might be…excessively fond of The Crowning Game and the people involved in it. I might also have purchased a sword from you in the past never to be used in a performance...That’s…that’s a secret though, alright?
  • Give Me a Sword: Yasei really wants Kanna to hand over her rapier.
  • Hate at First Sight: Kanna has a way with pushing all her buttons.
  • Hated by All: Except for Yara, she's managed to tick off and get ticked off by everyone else she's talked to. And even then, after that nail incident with Haruka, and especially when she shouted at various undeserving people in a certain oft-mentioned trial...
  • Incompatible Orientation: Yasei says something to the effect of 'no homo' to Yara. If only things were as easy as all that. Turns out to be not so incompatible, and she eventually owns up to her own feelings. Kissing happens.
  • Lack of Empathy: Wow, Nook just fainted. What a baby. This also extends to being annoyed with people upset by the robots in any way, and pointing nail guns at people in the middle of a dark stairwell at night in the interest of her own safety. Most prevalent after Umiko admits to stabbing Yabe by accident: “It was your mistake. I sincerely hope no one here holds any sympathy for you.” And then later to Anri and Haruka in chapter 3. This trait of hers just keeps snowballing.

Mifune Chiyori

Super High School Level Game Developer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chiyori_1319.png
(quote)

She is revealed as the mastermind in the final trial, having been a survivor of the previous mutual killing game. She executes herself despite attempts to stop her.

Nekoda Kanna

Super High School Level Jeweller

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kanna_8504.png
...Meow.

Kanna was young when she started to dabble in jewellery, living with her grandmother and brother at Nekomeishi Onsen, an onsen her grandmother owned. Kanna started out small, making simple lucky charms for the shop in the onsen. The little charms sold well, and Kanna moved on to make simple bracelets, eventually necklaces. She upgraded her pieces to more intricate and expensive with the profits she got from the sale of her simple designs. She got an apprenticeship at the age of only twelve, and her jewellery was put up for sale in a small goldsmiths store. They sold well, and Kanna was able to hone her skill further, testing out different methods and more expensive materials. Not long after she started selling her jewellery independently for whatever reason. She continued to learn the craft alone from the age of nearly fifteen and became nationally recognized after winning the grand prize from JJA Jewellery Design Awards at the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair as the youngest jeweller ever recorded to do so.The delicate and beautiful jewellery pieces Kanna makes have been featured on various magazines, some of her recent pieces have sold for high prices and have been worn by various celebrities, especially after she was admitted to Hope’s Peak as the Super High School Level Jeweller. She murders Hoshi Haruka in chapter five, but Koya insists on being executed in her place. Following this, Kanna survives the studios and leaves after the final trial.

  • Animal Motifs: Has an aloof, catlike behaviour, a hairstyle reminescent of cat ears and her last name is Nekoda, to name a few connections.

Onodera Umiko

Super High School Level Cryptozoologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1a_4794.png
Yes! You’ve heard of Issie, haven’t you? And the Ningen? And…

Born to a whaler father and a stay at home mother in the small village of Taijii, Umiko was a completely average young girl until a maritime accident during a "take your children to work" type event on her father's ship changed her completely, both mentally and physically. Formerly a studious young girl, Umiko lost all interest in academics and became enamored with cryptids, one of which she believes saved her. Her interest in the cryptids, and her claimed link with them, are what led to her (re)discovery of small packs of both the Honshū and Hokkaidō wolves, which had a technical status as cryptids due to their (supposed) extinction. These amazing finds, plus her continued research on the Ningen, are what led to her heading to the studio that fateful day. She accidentally kills Yabe Junya, and then purposefully kills Juneau Kanayurak. For this, she is executed at the end of the first trial.

Uranami Marika

Super High School Level Naval Officer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marika_1530.png
Marika Uranami, Petty Officer First Class of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Super High School Level Naval Officer.

A petty officer and the youngest in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to date. Because of valiant efforts before her enlistment, Marika Uranami has been granted honorary titles that most people never get the chance to receive. After her mother's death, she had spent much of her youth out at sea with her father, learning everything there is to know about naval fleets. It was with her love for the open seas had grown, and her desire to work for the JMSDF inspired. She is very successful at what she does, and proud of it, too.She is murdered by Hiramaki Anri in chapter three.

  • Meaningful Name: "Uranami was the tenth of twenty-four Fubuki-class destroyers, built for the Imperial Japanese Navy following World War I. When introduced into service, these ships were the most powerful destroyers in the world."
  • Teen Genius: For her age, Marika's military ranking is exceptionally high.
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: Marika Uranami, Petty Officer First Class of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Honorary Admiral. Super High School Level Naval Officer.
  • Unknown Rival: While Marika makes it very, very clear that she does not like Kanna Nekoda, Kanna never seems to display any signs of hatred for Marika.

Yukimura Yara

Super High School Level Fantasy Bladesmith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_n8at37gmxp1shn1pq_8337.png
Rus fo dah, you robot scrubs.

Yara had always been a child absorbed in fantasy. When her parents moved from Brazil to Japan, she responded not with culture shock but with epoch shock. Developing an obsession with the Western historical fantasy genre and its take on swordplay, Yara fell in with a half-cosplay, half-larping group for whom she took on the task of crafting replica swords. When her customised props — in particular, her interpretations of the famed swords from fantasy series 'The Crowning Game' — drew more attention from the community, she rose to the challenge, taking on a blacksmithing apprenticeship and selling her swords through her online store.

The studio producing the TV serialisation contacted Yara, both intrigued by her creativity and looking to connect with the fanbase — and thus an alliance was born. Since producing an ensemble cast of weapons for the show, including Ron Snow’s sword ‘Talon’ and Maria Lark’s signature weapon ‘Pinprick’, her online business and her name in international internet fandom continue to thrive. She survives the studios and leaves after the final trial.

  • Born in the Wrong Century: In an either misinformed or intentionally idealistic manner, as she would probably hate living in the actual mediaeval West.
  • Captain Ersatz: All of the referenced characters from The Crowning Game.
  • Cool Sword: Subverted in that it is a ceremonial sword too fragile to actually use, thanks to the Studios' strict policies on bringing in weapons.
  • Give Me a Sword: Played realistically with Yasei.
Yasei: …I don’t suppose…you have any spare armaments on your person.
    Yara: Uh... not really.
  • Heroic BSoD: After her punishment when she's chosen in the third motive.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Subverted, in that she is actually neither a leader nor a hero in any tangible way. She just thinks that walking around with a sword might make her fractionally closer to either of those things. She's apparently all about the Heroic Sacrifices, though.
  • I Call It "Vera": Her sword, Fierbois ('Breaker of Reigns', 'The Dawnbringer Brand', 'The Steel Liberator', 'The Dragonbane Blade'…).
  • Innocently Insensitive: Has become more of a controversial person than her intentions might imply due to some ill-timed jokes.
  • Meaningful Name: Yara Greyjoy from the actual Game of Thrones show, and an anagram of 'Arya'. Also, a surname referential to snow.
  • Punch a Wall: In reaction to the first motive. Not without its realistic medical consequences.
  • Reckless Pacifist: Because forcing one's classmate to climb into a vent possibly containing a corpse is definitely not at odds with wanting the best for him.
  • Red Oni: When paired with Yasei or Rin as the blue oni.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Towards the despair of their situation, placing her firmly on the 'conscious denial' side of the studio's optimism spectrum. Also, towards certain characters' dislike of her, and towards her relationship with certain other members of weapons club.
  • Self-Made Myth: After the flavour text on ladyjeanneblades.org, is probably significantly less impressive to meet in real life.
  • Talks Like a Simile: Specifically, a fantasy-referential simile.
  • The Nicknamer: Particularly towards Rin (i.e. 'Legolas'/'Thranduil'), but also within more affable relationships ('Ser Atieno Howlhammer', 'Lady K', etc.)
  • Thinking Out Loud
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: 'Yara of the Southern House Yukimura, First of Her Name and Wielder of the Dawnbringer Brand Fierbois'; 'Yara the First of the House Yukimura of Shizuoka — Wardens of the South and Kings of the Suruga Bay'; 'Yara of House Yukimura, Shield of Hamamatsu and Bearer of the Dragonbane Blade Fierbois'…
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: If only this were epic historical fantasy set on a different continent altogether, Yara would be right at home.
  • Young Entrepreneur: Thanks to this, and in direct spite of what her personality might imply, is one of the more famous and professional students. Runs a highly lucrative and publicised web business for swords that eventually gained her the notice of the Crowning Game adaptation's studio.

    Others

Monty

(quote)

(write description here)

  • I Know What You Fear: As expected in a Dangan Ronpa roleplay, during chapter 3's motive, Monty lists off a few people's secrets, a few of them important enough for their reveal to be scary by themselves. Then there's Kazuya's—he's scared of the dark. This also comes up a chapter later when the motive involves a psychological torture chamber that you vote other students into.

Sally Circuits

(quote)

She is broken in chapter 6. In the last trial she is revealed to have been controlled by Ashinano Mikoto, who used her as his representative during trials.

Togemura

Super High School Level Cactus

"I speak for the trees."
-Togemura introducing himself during the first student meeting. Totally canon.

Sayuri's cactus controller. The actual mastermind. All hail Togemura.

Ashinano Mikoto

Super High School Level Engineer

A member of the students' original class who became Chiyori's partner in exchange for safety from the mutual killing game. He attempts to defect and escape in chapter 6, but she sees it coming and murders him.
  • Dirty Coward: He was willing to betray his classmates (who a photograph suggests he was quite close with) and become Chiyori's assistant in exchange for safety from the mutual killing game.

Tropes featured in HH Studios include:

  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Serendipitously subverted, in that the women of Weapons Club are associated with swords, and the men with bows and arrows.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: By Monty and Sally, whose existence the students seemed not to be aware of until they actually arrived.
  • Kangaroo Court:
    • Chapter 1's trial was fairly focused, if long. Chapter 2's trial, on the other hand, devolved into personal arguments and insults getting thrown around left right and centre whilst simultaneously attempting to piece together the case.
    • Then the next three chapters' trials, while each is filled with some humor, progressively get darker and darker as the numbers dwindle.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Engaged with on a meta level, in that Monty and Sally immediately posit murder as a rational solution to the competitive aspect of fame. Nobody else agrees.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Brought to new heights, in that Monty and Sally occasionally slip back into sounding like robots.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Engaged with on a meta level, in that Monty and Sally try to be your pals, but end up inspiring the Uncanny Valley effect more often than not.
  • Sealed Room in the Middle of Nowhere: For a famous place, the Happy Hope Studios seem strangely isolated and impregnable thus far.
  • Villain-Based Franchise: Averted, surprisingly! Despite being a Dangan Ronpa RP group, Monokuma's nowhere to be seen (at least, not yet). Instead, your mascots are a pair of Ridiculously Human Robots named Monty and Sally.
  • You All Meet in a Cell: Or, a film studio. Take your pick.
