Warriors

    In General

Once every 100 years, other worlds will draft one child or teenager to become a Warrior, a chosen hero of supernatural power, to save the world from a monstrous being known as a Demon Lord. The ones who succeed return home with all of their powers intact, making them capable of changing the course of human history.

  • Been There, Shaped History: It's implied and later confirmed that a number of legendary and historical figures were past Warriors who returned home and used their abilities to influence the world. Saint Damien, the Faith Warrior of of the 14th century, was responsible for ending The Black Death, which was caused by that generation's Plague Warrior, Don Quixote is revealed to have not only been real but was also the Time Warrior of his generation, and many of the Warriors from the 20th century fought for both the Allies and the Axis Powers during World War II.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Flashbacks reveal that at least three figures in history were Warriors who successfully returned home to Earth. Don Quixote was a Time Warrior, Moses was a Faith Warrior, and Qin Shi Huangdi was a Spear Warrior.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Aside from being summoned for their power, Warriors are capable of defying the laws and conventions of the worlds they're summoned into, such as Yuseong stacking his Instant Runes instead of creating a new one for each spell he makes. This helps gives them the edge to defeat the Demon Lord.
  • Blessed with Suck: Some Warriors have no chance at having a normal life upon returning to Earth thanks to the sacrifices they made to beat their Demon Lord. The Transformation Warriors must turn themselves into fully-converted cyborgs, the Time Warriors must give up a majority of their lives, and the Plague Warriors are destined to a life of evil thanks to the nature of their powers.
  • Can't Catch Up: Once a Warrior leaves their respective other world, they’ve become a tiny bit stronger than the Demon Lord they fought and can’t grow any more. Which becomes a problem if they fight another Warrior who is clearly stronger than them. Their only options to get stronger are either to sacrifice themselves to their patron goddess if they have one, use the relics of other Warriors, or become a Demon Lord.
  • Child Soldier: The summoning process unique to the individual world that transports people from Earth to the other worlds can only target children and teenagers, essentially drafting their heroes from people below the age of majority to fight in a bloody war against a foe that armies cannot stop.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe:
    • The Faith Warriors derive their powers from people's belief in them. In both Hana's and Belgis' case, they were able to force others to follow them as believers so long as any of their words resonated with the people they spoke to. As a saint of the Catholic faith, Saint Damien derives his power from the billions of Catholics around the globe. But even then, numbers aren't everything. Even when Damien's followers are reduced to a single orphanage founded in his name, the purity of the faith produced by his Paying It Forward kindness centuries ago allows him to shatter Hana's control over her followers and defeat her.
    • Later episodes show that this goes both ways: the Faith Warrior's powers will cease to work if they too stop believing in them. Belgis is killed by Minsu when Minsu's unrelenting assault as a Demon Lord shakes Belgis' faith in fascism and his own victory. This stops Belgis' powers from working and renders him vulnerable enough to be killed.
  • Compelling Voice: Hana Baek and Belgis, both Faith Warriors, are able to brainwash anyone who finds any of their words compelling into their followers. This empowers both Hana and Belgis, who are able to use their brainwashed believers to power their other abilities, such as using Human Sacrifices to create weapons or take damage meant for them.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: The fallen Warriors are all clearly pastiches of popular Korean novel and webcomic archetypes, such as the Stock Light-Novel Hero, the hero with Resurrective Immortality, and the Spirit Cultivation Genre. All of the fallen heroes are viciously cruel, showcasing just how deadly their powers are when used against non-superpowered people.
  • Fallen Hero: The evil Warriors were all once ordinary people who risked their lives to save an entirely different world. In the present, Minsu Kim's faction consists of Warriors who have grown disillusioned with humanity and the people they feel have abandoned them, doing everything in their power to make everyone feel as miserable as they do.
  • Hero of Another Story: All the Warriors had their own year long adventures in another world where they trained to defeat the Demon Lord and gathered comrades from across the world to aid them in their journey.
  • Last of His Kind: Thanks to Seongjun’s plans to create a Demon Lord, every Warrior of the current generation are the last Warriors to be summoned to another world and in a hundred years, those other worlds will be unable to summon any more heroes from the World of Nothingness and must find ways to defeat their Demon Lords with their own powers.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: All of the male Warriors who engage in melee combat are incredibly muscular due to their rigorous training and how important it is for them to be fighting fit. Their superhuman strength, speed, and durability makes them The Juggernaut against normal human forces, as shown by the Sword Warrior's and the Iron Arm Warrior's rampages across Korea, toppling bulidings and flattening city-blocks with single blows.
  • One-Man Army: All Warriors are capable of completely annihilating a modern army on their lonesome thanks to destructive powers and Nigh-Invulnerability to all but the most powerful of modern weapons. The Sea Dragon Warrior alone sank the entire United Nations fleet dispatched to aid Korea. The other evil Warriors more or less annihilated Korea's military. However, a later episode has Seongjun reveal the Korean military could have posed some of a threat to a Warrior if they managed to stick together with the chain of command intact which is why part of Seongjun's plan to create a Demon Lord is to kill most of those in command during the beginning of the Warrior crisis so the military would be unable to gather their forces to fight back.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: A single Warrior can easily wipe out entire fleets of battleships and level entire city districts with a single attack. Minsu makes the threat of Warriors known by flattening the entirety of the Gangseo District with a single swing.
  • Point of Divergence: In several timelines, it’s shown that all the fallen Warriors wouldn’t have fell if they had somebody who empathized with them and gave them a helping hand when they needed it. Like Jiseong handling his grief over his grandmother’s passing in a healthier way because he had Seongjun to lean on during his time of need. Or Hana becoming a better more altruistic person because she had Seongjun by her side, helping her conquer her fears and giving her an opportunity to do real good for others. This goes to show that all the tragedy and destruction they caused could have been avoided if only somebody gave them a chance.
  • Super-Toughness: Most Warriors possess Nigh-Invulnerability to anything short of a high-impact explosion. Even as Korean soldiers throw themselves on top of the Warriors to detonate explosives at point-blank range, this does little more than inconvenience and lightly singe the Warriors. Minsu Kim, the Sword Warrior, and Uiho Jeong, the Iron Arm Warrior, are known to be especially tough, shrugging off attacks that level buildings with ease. The only non-Warrior attack shown to actually kill a fully-powered Warrior is a direct hit from a nuclear weapon.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Many of the fallen Warriors are teenagers pushing college age at the oldest. The monster part is self-explanatory, considering they've been slaughtering people by the hundreds and thousands.
  • Trapped in Another World: All Warriors were children or teenagers who were summoned to another world at the moment of their death. The summoned Warriors are then tasked with saving its denizens from an malevolent force, most frequently a Maou the Demon King, to get home or die trying.
  • Tragic Villain: To put it lightly, the lives of the fallen Warriors sucked after they returned home, if they weren't already traumatized by their pasts beforehand. Their decision to take their despair out on all of humanity is incredibly disproportionate, but it comes from the fact that they were just so massively unlucky that no one helped them in their time of need, so they view humanity itself as only worthy of contempt.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Both Garam and Marie were forced to roboticize more and more of themselves in order to become powerful enough to defeat the Demon Lord of the Transformation World. While they ostensibly did it out of their free will to enable their heroics, the author's own notes point out that they more or less felt pressured into it, lest they die and never be able to return home.

South Korean Warriors

    Jeongsu Park, the Spear Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/parkjungsoo.png
Past

The Hero of the story and the Warrior of the Spear World. Like the other Warriors. Jeongsu was an ordinary teenager until disaster struck and he was killed. Instead of dying normally, he was instead transported to the Spear World, which he saved not for the sake of its people but to become strong enough to avenge his family's murder at the hands of the Sword Warrior, Minsu Kim.

  • Adrenaline Makeover: Jeongsu initially looked very plain, with an unremarkable haircut, thin build, and glasses that made him look nerdy. Following his year-long stint in the Spear World, his obsession with getting stronger for the sake of avenging his family and his many life-threatening experiences radically change his appearance. He grows taller, gains a Heroic Build, and becomes Covered in Scars. His hair becomes spiky and windswept, his face becomes noticeably chiseled and he loses his glasses, giving him a wild, ruggedly handsome look.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Seongjun’s plan for him to defeat Demon Lord Minsu Kim is for Jeongsu to wield the relics of the fallen Warriors, even having extra arms grafted onto his body by Garam so he can hold more.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Jeongsu ultimately loses an arm in his battle against Minsu, taking Jeongsu out of the fight and forcing Yerin Ma, the Magical Warrior to rescue him.
  • Attack Reflector: At a glance, the Shield Spear Ancille seems to be a defensive weapon capable of producing magical barriers strong enough to block both physical and magical attacks. It's true use however is to absorb the energy of the attack and unleash it back at his opponent. When he uses it to block the breath attack of the Sea Dragon, he's able to use the absorbed power to bisect the Sea Dragon Warrior and her gargantuan dragon in one strike.
  • Beyond the Impossible: As a rule, a Warrior can only become slightly stronger than the Demon Lord of the world they're summoned to. Jeongsu, however, was so single-mindedly determined to become strong enough to kill Minsu Kim that he trained until his power completely overshadowed the Spear Demon Lord. A feat that, by all accounts, shouldn't have been possible. The summoner who brought him to their world even states that Jeongsu managed to set a new pinnacle for the Spear World.
  • The Chosen One: Upon his death, Jeongsu was chosen as the Warrior destined to deliver the Spear World from the Demon Lord. Jeongsu is revealed to be this, specifically chosen by Seongjun to slay Minsu after the latter becomes a Demon Lord and finally grants Seongjun a permanent death.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: While Minsu was the definite victor of their match, Seongjun theorizes that if it wasn't for the insane defense of Minsu's armor, Jeongsu would have won their match thanks to his superior technique and firepower.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Jeongsu's overall design as a Warrior uses dark colors to evoke the image of a dark knight. Upon invoking Didantium, the armor once worn by the Demon Lord of the Spear World that Jeongsu took after defeating them, he gains a menacing helmet and the power of the Demon Lord themself, represented by an unsettling purple aura. Despite this, Jeongsu is, while jaded and obsessed with revenge, still a heroic person at heart, contrasting sharply with Minsu's Light Is Not Good design.
  • Henshin Hero: Seongjun convinces Jiwon Ahn's Metamorphosis Belt to allow Jeongsu to wield it. Upon transforming, the Belt combines aspects of the suit worn by Jiwon with Jeongsu's armor, with the result being what could best be described as a henshin knight.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: In his efforts to become strong enough to kill Minsu, Jeongsu becomes cruel, bloodthirsty, and single-mindedly focused on inflicting every manner of torture on the man who ruined his life. He winds up becoming even more terrifying than the Spear Demon Lord, whom he revives over and over to use as a training dummy. It's not until the people of the Spear World beg him to stop and promise to help him achieve his vengeance that he relents, leaving him a Knight in Sour Armor with a little bit of humanity left instead of an out-an-out monster.
  • In-Series Nickname: In addition to being known as the Spear Warrior, Jeongsu is labeled the "Rebel Warrior" for being the only Warrior in South Korea still standing and openly opposing the Nine Warriors.
  • Jousting Lance: Jeongsu is able to send word back to the Spear World requesting new and more powerful weapons to help him fight Minsu Kim. The first spear they send back is Heukto, a lance that generates a mechanical horse for him to ride upon. In addition to solving Jeongsu's relatively slow movement speed compared to the other Warriors, the lance itself possesses incredible penetration power thanks to its ability to rotate rapidly as it thrusts.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Jeongsu goes on and on about how he's only fighting for vengeance for his family and nothing else. But he pays his respects to all of the fallen sailors who sacrificed themselves to help him reach and defeat the Sea Dragon Warrior and is enraged when innocent lives are killed. Somin quickly realizes that for all his talk, he's actually still much kinder than he's willing to admit and Minsu notes that for all of Jeongsu's hatred, there's still a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
  • Magic Knight: In addition to his martial skills, Jeongsu is also proficient in using magic, though unlike other more magic focused Warriors like Yerin or Yuseong, he primarily uses magic to further empower his spears with various Elemental Powers.
  • Mighty Glacier: Jeongsu is one of the strongest and toughest Warriors around and one of only two Warriors to survive their battle against Minsu. But for all his power and toughness, Jeongsu's travel speed is much slower than his reaction speed. As a result, he struggles to chase after Warriors who can run extremely quickly like the Iron Arm Warrior or those that can fly like the Transformation Warrior. Following his initial defeat to Minsu, Jeongsu's new spear, Heukto, attempts to remedy this by providing him a mechanical horse capable of running at speeds comparable to the other Warriors. Using Jiwon Ahn's Metamorphosis Belt fully remedies this, turning him into a Lightning Bruiser who can even outspeed someone capable of moving faster than the speed of sound.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Jeongsu has his body modified by the Transformation Warrior to give him two additional arms with which to wield weapons. Despite the risk of permanently crippling his nervous system, the extra arms are necessary for him to wield additional Heroes' Relics against the Demon Lord Minsu Kim.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: The mage who summoned Jeongsu to the Spear World following his death at the hands of Minsu Kim muses that Jeongsu was not the least bit invested in saving their world from the Demon Lord. The only reason he became the Spear Warrior was so he could become strong enough to take revenge on the Sword Warrior after returning home.
  • Not the Intended Use: His spears are kept in the Spear World until he summons them, which gives Jeongsu the unique ability among the Warriors to be able to communicate with the Spear World even after returning to Earth. This ability allows him to request the Spear World for more powerful weapons after his original ones fail to do the job.
  • Out of Focus: Despite being the hero of the story, Jeongsu isn't the main focus of the story for more than 50 episodes after his defeat at Minsu's hand.
  • The Power of Hate: Jeongsu draws his power from his overwhelming hatred of and desire to kill the rampaging Warriors, especially Minsu Kim. His hatred enabled him to surpass any previously summoned Spear Warrior, setting a new pinnacle of the Spear World. That said, the series ultimately deconstructs this trait. For starters, Jeongsu's hatred only serves to alienate him from most others, including those who wish to help him. On top of that, while his hatred is a great source of strength and determination, it's still not enough to help him match Minsu. Finally, it's revealed by Seongjun that his obsession with getting revenge is actually holding him back from realizing his full potential as a Warrior.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Seems to develop this dynamic with the Verdant Warrior during his training in Indonesia, with Jeongsu serving as the stoically angry Manly Man to Junho's more emotional, peaceful Sensitive Guy.
  • Survivor Guilt: Jeongsu is haunted by visions of his family, all begging him to help them as they were being killed by Minsu.
  • This Is a Drill: Jeongsu gets a new spear called Heukto, a lance designed for frontal assaults via mounted combat. In addition to providing a mechanical horse for him to ride, it's able to spin to penetrate through durable objects like an electric drill. The speed of Heukto's rotation is enormous, to the point of twisting Uiho's arm until it breaks and piercing straight through him when all of Jeongsu's previous attacks failed.
  • Walking Armory: Jeongsu has up to nine magical spears in his arsenal at any point. So long as he's holding one spear, he can summon any of them from the Spear World. The ultimate plan to defeat Minsu involves giving Jeongsu as many Heroes' Relics as he can get his hands on. Garam even gives him extra arms just so he can use as many as he can simultaneously.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: One of Jeongsu’s strongest attacks is to combine the elements of his Holy Spear Paulo and Dark Spear Daryl to create a massive beam of energy.

    Yerin Ma, the Magical Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yerin.png

The Warrior of the Magical World. Yerin used to be an ordinary schoolgirl until she was summoned to the Magical World before her death. Initially introduced as one of the Nine Warriors, Yerin is actually a spy planted among their ranks by the Korean government. After saving Jeongsu from being killed by Minsu, Yerin becomes one of his allies in the fight against the Nine Warriors.

  • Battle Couple: In the original timeline, she was this with the Exorcist Warrior Hwarang and later had children with him.
  • Can't Catch Up: Thanks to the Demon Lord she fought being relatively weak and that Warriors can no longer grow any stronger upon returning to Earth, Yerin’s combat strength pales in comparison to the other Warriors. She’s still leagues stronger than a normal human but knows she’s no match against Minsu Kim or the other Nine Warriors. This doesn’t stop her from at least trying to fight back against them when the chips are down.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Yerin is full of doubts about whether or not she’s strong or courageous enough to fight against evil but she ultimately chooses to fight for her loved ones and the world anyways.
  • Determinator: Yerin may not be as strong as the other Warriors but she’s more than determined to fight for her family’s safety and the world they live in. She's willing to impale herself with the shards of her Power Crystal to continue fighting against the Vampire Warrior.
  • Embarrassing but Empowering Outfit: Yerin Ma is a young woman in her 20s who is forced to don a neon pink Magical Girl outfit to use her powers as a Warrior. She finds it horribly embarrassing but does so anyways as part of her efforts to keep her family safe.
  • Power Crystal: Unlike the other Warriors, the source of Yerin’s powers is concentrated in the gem in her staff. If it’s destroyed, she loses all her powers and becomes a normal human being again. Yerin circumvents this weakness somewhat by stabbing herself with the shards and achieving a partial transformation but this has significant downsides that could potentially end her life.
  • The Mole: She is a mole planted by the Korean government inside Minsu's team to monitor him and be able to act in the event that a Warrior capable of fighting him shows up.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: Yerin becomes a candy themed magical girl after transforming. As a young 20 year old woman, however, she’s embarrassed by how she looks in it.

    Jiwon Ahn, the Metamorphosis Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jiwonahn.png

The Warrior of the Metamorphosis World. Jiwon is the little brother of Yeji Ahn and was a fan of the Toku Genre, wishing to be just like the heroes he saw on TV and getting his wish granted when he was summoned to the Metamorphosis World. After returning to Earth, he was one of the heroes who fought to stop Minsu's rampage and is one of the only Warriors who survived fighting against him, albeit not without severe, life-threatening injuries.

  • Achilles' Heel: The enormous power generated by his Henshin Hero Powered Armor also produces incredible heat. If the suit's cooling system is damaged, the heat will gradually cook Jiwon alive. This unfortunately happens in the midst of his fight with Minsu, leaving Jiwon clinging to life with third-degree burns. By the end of his final battle with Jiseong, Jiwon's body has melted into sludge from the heat and he eventually dissolves into ash.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Most people find Jiwon's tacky Powered Armor, weird poses, and Hot-Blooded personality off-putting and didn't expect much from him. He turns out to be one of the most powerful Warriors and one of the few capable of going head-to-head with Minsu.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Little brother in this case. Jiwon will do anything for his big sister, even if he's currently covered head to toe in third degree burns and what she's asking of him will surely lead to his death.
  • Determinator: Nothing will stop Jiwon from doing what's right and protecting the innocent, especially if its to protect his big sister. His determination is so great that even when he is biologically dead, he forces his body to move anyways to defeat Jiseong and give his sister the time she needs to retrieve the Shield Hero's shield.
  • Dented Iron: After fighting Minsu, his body is covered in third degree burns and is basically a dead man walking without any skin grafts available but Jiwon is still the Metamorphosis Warrior, as the Martial Arts Warrior finds out when they fight.
  • Died Standing Up: Even as his body dissolves into ash, Jiwon remains standing until there's nothing left of him.
  • Diving Kick: In true Toku hero fashion, Jiwon can dish out devastating kicks after speeding via Accelerate Mode
  • Empathic Weapon: Jiwon's Hero's Relic, the Metamorphosis Belt, has its own consciousness and personality. It views Jiwon as its one and only partner and is seriously concerned by his willingness to fight despite his injuries. After it's repaired, the Metamorphosis Belt refuses to activate until Seongjun convinces it to allow Jeongsu to wield it to protect the world that Jiwon died defending.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Jiwon survived his fight with Minsu with third-degree burns all over his body from where his Powered Armor overheated without the cooling circuits to keep the temperature stable. He's in excruciating pain at all times and it's even said that it'd be kinder to just let him die, as the skin graft needed to save his life won't come thanks to the Nine Warriors terrorizing South Korea. But he's kept alive for the sake of deploying him one last time as part of Operation: Relic Retrieval.
  • Henshin Hero: The Metamorphosis Warrior, Jiwon Ahn, is able to create a suit of Powered Armor around himself with his special belt and the command "Transform!", turning him into a Kamen Rider pastiche. In this state, Jiwon is capable of moving at blinding speeds and shoot energy bolts with his punches and kicks. This power is what let Jiwon contend with Minsu for a while until Minsu managed to damage the cooling circuits of the suit. This eventually began to cook Jiwon alive as he continued using his powers to protect others and fight Minsu.
  • Heroic Resolve: When Jiwon is called upon to fight the Martial Arts Warrior and help Korea secure all of the remaining Warrior's Relics, he agrees to fight without hesitation. Despite suffering third-degree burns all over his body and being in constant, excruciating pain from being cooked alive in his suit, Jiwon refuses to give up until he's beaten the Martial Arts Warrior and bought time for his sister to get away with the Shield Relic. By the end of the fight, the belt informs the Martial Arts Warrior that Jiwon is already biologically dead from having his flesh melted into sludge and is continuing to move through nothing but sheer willpower.
  • I Gave My Word: Years ago, Yeji defended Jiwon from a bunch of bullies and he apologizes for not being strong enough to protect her. Yeji responds that it's okay, as he'll just fight for her one day when he's all big and strong. As the Metamorphosis Warrior, Jiwon willingly takes the field when Yeji asks him to. Even when reduced to essentially a living corpse, he tells her not to cry, because he will fight for her.
  • Light Is Good: Jiwon is brimming with light-imagery between his bright white, yellow, and blue Powered Armor and the shining effects of Accelerate Mode. He's also one of the most idealistic and kind Warriors in the series, selflessly volunteering to fight Minsu with no expectation of reward and to protect his sister as he promised years ago.
  • Mundane Utility: In the original timeline, Jiwon used his powers to help people rebuild after the Warrior War, as his Powered Armor-boosted strength made him more than capable of substituting for heavy machinery.
  • No Body Left Behind: Jiwon's body dissolves into ash from the strain of pushing himself so hard while already on the verge of death from his third-degree burns against the Martial Arts Warrior.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Thanks to the speed-boosting effects of Accelerate Mode, Jiwon is able to throw dozens of punches in an instant to overwhelm his enemies.
  • Rasputinian Death: When Jiwon finally dies, he's suffered third-degree burns all over his body, his organs have more or less melted from the extreme amounts of painkillers and stimulants required to keep him conscious, and beaten and poisoned by Jiseong. By the end of the fight, Jiwon's body dissolves into ash from everything he's suffered.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Jiwon Ahn, the Metamorphosis Warrior, is a kind-hearted man who idolized the setting's version of Super Sentai as a child. He believes he doesn't need a reason to help others and pushes himself above and beyond his limits to keep his promises. He battles as a Lightning Bruiser Henshin Hero who will not stop until everyone he loves and cares about is safe.
  • Take Up My Sword: Upon his death, Jiwon tosses away the Metamorphosis Belt to his sister, preventing it from burning up with him and allowing another chosen Warrior to take it up in his place once it's repaired. Seongjun convinces the Belt to choose Jeongsu as its next wielder, giving Jeongsu the edge he needs the defeat the Iron Arm Warrior.
  • Undying Loyalty: The Metamorphosis Belt is clearly loyal to Jiwon alone. Although it clearly hates that he's pushing himself that far, it agrees with his decision to help others and fights with him to the end. When the belt is repaired by Garam and given to Jeongsu to use against the Iron Arm Warrior, the belt makes it clear that it has no interest in helping Jeongsu or this world in particular. The Belt only lends Jeongsu its power because he's the only hope for the world that the belt's partner, Jiwon, died defending.

    Yuseong Jin, the Magic Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jin_82.png

The Warrior of the Magic World. He was a painfully Ordinary High-School Student prior to being summoned to the Magic World. After becoming The Archmage and saving the world from the Demon Lord, he returns to a life of painful mediocrity.

  • The Archmage: He became the most powerful mage of the Magic World, defying all of its norms to ascend as a 12th Circle Mage. He developed a way to stack and compress the magical circles used in that world to create powerful magic more quickly than drawing new circles for each spell before triumphing over the Demon Lord.
  • Attention Whore: Yuseong Jin, the Magic Warrior, offered to fight against Minsu not out of altruism but because of his desire to be worshiped as a messianic figure much like he was in the World of Magic. He basked in the attention he got as someone capable of avenging those killed by Minsu and looked forward to being the most important man in the world prior to his death. More than anything, he fears dying without leaving a mark and being forgotten.
  • Enlightened Self-Interest: Yuseong Jin, the Magic Warrior, fought not out of the kindness of his heart or to protect anyone, but to profit off the accolades and money he'd recieve for killing Minsu.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He is the least altruistic of the Warriors who stepped up to fight for humanity. Yuseong is motivated solely by material benefit and the adulation he'd recieve for killing Minsu and could not care less about anyone else.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Yuseong was painfully average at everything and got his wish to be special granted when he was summoned to another world and became the Magic Warrior. However, he was treated like a messiah in the World of Magic and thus, was close to snapping and going on a rampage when he returned to being just another man in his world. When Minsu Kim began his rampage, Yuseong Jin saw it as his chance to become a worldwide celebrity again. In the original timeline, Yuseong Jin did snap and joined the other fallen Warriors in conquering humanity.
  • Off with His Head!: Minsu takes his head off in a Single-Stroke Battle after letting Yuseong hit him for a while to gauge his power and range.
  • Token Evil Teammate: While he did fight Minsu to save South Korea, it's because of his desire for fame, glory, and wealth rather than any kind of altruism. Even when compared to Knight in Sour Armor Jeongsu, Yuseong stands out as a purely selfish person with no redeeming qualities. Indeed, he tried to take over the world in the original timeline where Minsu hadn't fallen into despair and was presumably killed in the Warrior War. Notably, he's the only two South Korean Warriors that Seongjun is never seen hanging out with in any of the shown loops, the other being the Plague Warrior.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He continually believes that he has Minsu cornered when Minsu takes his hits without fighting back. This is in spite of the fact that Minsu had taken Yuseong's most powerful spell without a scratch. So when Minsu kills him in one attack, Yuseong's last thoughts are of shock and confusion.

    Dohun Lim, the Time Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lim_2.png

The Warrior of the Time World. He appears to be an elderly, old man in contrast to the other Warriors being young teenagers.

  • The Aloner: Outside of his family and Sancho, Dohun is completely isolated socially by his Rapid Aging. There is no way for his old friends to recognize him and he has so few years left to live that travelling and creating a new identity for himself is pointless.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Dohun deeply enjoyed Don Quixote when assigned to read it in high school and learns that Don Quixote was real and was the Time Warrior fighting a windmill dragon Demon Lord five hundred years ago. Having been aged into an old man, Dohun resembles his hero and is even accompanied by a young girl and squire named Sancho.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Inverted. Dohun knows that he has little time left and that his health is bound to decline. So he spends his remaining lifespan attempting to strike down Minsu for the sake of his parents and the world, reasoning it would be better to die this way than to become a burden on his already grieving parents.
  • Cast from Lifespan: His weapon, the Chronos Hammer, possesses mass proportionate to the amount of years of one's life the wielder sacrifices. It also induces Rapid Aging, meaning that the user becomes weaker as the hammer gets heavier and more powerful. By the end of his adventures, Dohuon sacrifices more than 60 years of his life to save the Time World.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Dohun's last attack, empowered by his life flashing before his eyes, nearly crushed Minsu beneath its weight. However, Dohun could not have accounted for Minsu's ability to split Durantkal in half, giving the Sword Warrior one free hand with which to stab Dohun.
  • The Dutiful Son: Dohun understood that he is his parents' entire world and everything they spent their lives trying to have. As a result, he refuses the luxuries offered to him by the people of the Time World in favor of going home, as he feels it's his duty to return to them.
  • Feeling Their Age: The Chronos Hammer induces Rapid Aging in the wield in exchange for power. Aged into an old man, Dohun suffers from bad hips and knees along with decaying teeth. He also worries that his health will suffer even more or that he'll descend into dementia. Dohun's fear of being reduced to a burden for his parents to care for contributes to his decision to face Minsu despite knowing that it's certain death whether he wins or loses.
  • Good Parents: His parents tried and failed for years to concieve a child, undergoing artificial insemination and suffering through three miscarriages before concieving Dohun. While their love for him bordered on being smothering at times, he loves them back, to the point of refusing every imaginable luxury in the Time World to return home and see them again. They instantly accept him back into their lives despite his condition. His deepest regret is returning to them in his decrepit, aged state and making them grieve for him when he sets off to face Minsu, knowing it's a battle he won't return from.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Downplayed. Upon his death, Dohun regrets that he was unable to make the world a safer place for his family and loved ones, but chooses to reflect not on his sadness and struggles but the happiness he experienced in his nineteen years. As Minsu lands the killing blow, Dohun remarks that he's gotten to experience a wonderful journey.
  • Humble Hero: Dohun only had six years left to live and would likely spend most of those remaining six years in a hospital bed. The ruler of the World of Time wanted Dohun to stay in their world where they would take care of him and fulfill any of his wishes for his remaining time left. However, Dohun refused her offer and simply asked to be returned to his world so he could see his parents and let them know their son, whom they tried so hard to conceive, was alright.
  • Last Request: Dohun tries to ask his squire Sancho to stay behind and be with his parents after he dies, knowing they won’t be as lonely if she is there with them. Sancho, however, refuses and forces Dohun to take her with him to his fight against Minsu Kim. When it becomes clear that he will not survive his clash with Minsu, she tearfully rides away on horseback to honor this request just as Dohun swings his hammer for the last time.
  • My Life Flashed Before My Eyes: Weaponized. Dohun only had one day left to spend in his final attack against Minsu. But at the moment of his swing, Dohun remembers all nineteen years of his life. His experiences, good and bad, are all compressed into that one moment, giving the swing nearly twenty years of power and nearly crushing Minsu beneath its weight.
  • Rapid Aging: The Chronos Hammer rapidly ages the wielder in exchange for power, reducing Dohun from a healthy teenager to an old man with only a few years left to live. In his final battle against Minsu, Dohun is left as Nothing but Skin and Bones, loses teeth, and even forgets who he is or what he's doing from being reduced to the last day of his life.
  • Scatterbrained Senior: Given his advancing physical age, Dohun fears this will happen to him in the near future. A fear that’s proven correct as when he uses up all his remaining life save for one day, he has become a dementia addled elder complaining about how much his body hurts, taking off his armor because it’s too heavy, and asking for help to get back home to his mother. It takes Sancho’s tearful pleading for Dohun to regain enough lucidity to remember where he is and what he was doing.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Dohun Lim is a teenager who sacrifices decades of his lifespan and suffers Rapid Aging without regret to save the Time World. He's a loving son to his parents and a selfless hero who gave up what few years he had left in an attempt to create a safer world for his family. His kindness and generosity make him Loved by All, with the leaders of Time World begging forgiveness for forcing him to suffer so much to save them. In the end, he is one of many Warriors sent by the Korean government to be slaughtered by Minsu.
  • Wizard Beard: As a result of aging twenty years in an instant to kill the Demon Lord, Dohun gained a lengthy, voluminous beard.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Only using two years of his life gave Dohun the power to fight evenly against Minsu Kim. But by that point, Dohun only had six years left to sacrifice. Both Minsu and Dohun knew that all Minsu had to do to win their battle was simply to stall and wait for Dohun’s powers to kill him. And even then, Dohun managed to force Minsu to reveal he can split his sword into two because otherwise Minsu would have been crushed underneath Dohun’s last attack.
  • Younger Than They Look: Dohun Lim, the Time Warrior, looks like an elderly man but is actually 19 years old. This is caused by a side effect of his weapon, the Chronos Hammer, which sucks out its user’s lifespan for power.

    The Exorcist Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/exorcist_hwarang.png

The Warrior of the Exorcist World. He is a dark brooding hero who resisted the temptations to become a monster in the Exorcist World and defeated its Demon Lord whilst remaining fully human. After coming back to Earth, he chooses to fight against the fallen Warriors terrorizing South Korea.

  • '90s Anti-Hero: A dark brooding Warrior who terrifies even those on the side of good but he willingly chooses to fight the fallen Warriors, despite being asked by the soldiers who arrested him, and proves he's a true hero at heart.
  • Badass Boast: Claims no monster will ever defeat him because he's a human.
  • Badass Longcoat: To match his Hunter of Monsters aesthetic, the Exorcist Warrior wears a long, dark trenchcoat, which is presumably used to hold the seemingly endless number of stakes at his disposal.
  • Building Swing: The Exorcist Warrior gets the drop on Hana by using his chains to swing under the bridge he was fighting on to catch her from behind.
  • Chain Pain: His special powers as a Warrior allows him to summon chains from his stakes which can be used for a variety of purposes.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's dressed in black and red and fights gruesomely, driving stakes into his foes with his hammer and dismembering them with his magical chains. But he's one of the moral heroes who takes up arms against Minsu and the Fallen Warriors.
  • Good Is Not Soft: His methods are the most obviously gruesome of the heroic Warriors: he binds his foes with chains before driving stakes into their chests and heads with a hammer, often covering himself with gore and viscera in the process. But as noted by Seongjun, the Exorcist Warrior is a hero above all.
  • Happily Married: In the original timeline, Hwarang fell in love with Yerin Ma and had children with her.
  • Hidden Depths: In the original timelines, Hwarang showed a much more positive and friendly demeanor long after the Warrior Crisis was over, implying his dark personality was the result of his time in the Exorcist World and once he no longer had to fight, his true personality came back.
  • Hunter of Monsters: In the Exorcist World, he was forced to kill all sorts of monstrous beasts while struggling against the temptation to gain the body of a monster to fight monsters. As a result, his skillset is best used against monsters who specialize in alluring others into becoming their thralls rather than other Warriors who have achieved incredible combat prowess. So while he isn't certain he'll win against a "Warrior", he's absolutely sure he can defeat a "monster" like Hana.
  • Irony: Claims he will never lose to a monster so long as he remains human. And it's only when he can no longer resist the temptation to become a monster for more power does Hwarang truly lose.
  • One-Man Army: Despite being lacking in superhuman ability relative to the other Warriors, his pragmatism, skillful use of his chain powers, and ruthlessness allow him to easily defeat Hana's hundreds of followers and capture her in their first fight. In the end, he's only done in by the combined efforts of three Warriors: Hana, Seongjun, and Garam, with Seongjun noting that it took way more than a hundred resurrections for him to corner the Exorcist Warrior.
  • Power Nullifier: His Demon Sealing Circle allows him to seal the powers of monsters and even other Warriors if he manages to catch them in it. This is what lets him subdue Hana, who'd otherwise escape with her ability to resurrect herself and fly.
  • Vampire Hunter: He appears to be themed after a vampire hunter, both in appearance and powers. He was even tempted by the monsters in the Exorcist World to become one of them, in order to gain the strength to kill the Demon Lord, but resisted those temptations and remained human.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to talk about him without revealing that Vampir took over his body and identity, hence why he only appears in Season 2.

    Seonhwa Yu, the Shield Warrior

The Warrior of the Shield World. Seonhwa was one of the Warriors who responded to the call to oppose Minsu and the other fallen Warriors.

  • Action Girl: She's a female Warrior willing to face the likes of the Iron Arm Warrior head-on, defeating him just two exchanges by turning his own attacks against him. She's implied to be the strongest of the female Warriors in a direct fight because of this. In the original timeline, she's considered the World's Strongest Woman. It's stated that she and Minsu are likely the world's strongest couple when they got married.
  • Attack Reflector: Her shield is able to return any damage Seonhwa's foe attempted to deal to it as a shockwave attack that rattles the target's brain. With it, Seonhwa is able to instantly defeat Uiho by taunting him into hitting it with so many punches that the resulting shockwaves knocks him unconscious.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Outside of combat, Seonhwa is a demure young woman without much confidence. In combat, however, she becomes far more vocal, confident, and even laughingly taunts her opponents into attacking her. Which is when they realize why she’s the strongest female Warrior of the current generation.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Seonhwa is prone to taunting her foes in order to goad them into attacking her so she can use her Attack Reflector abilities. She also gets Uiho to underestimate her by appearing to him seemingly in her civilian wear when her armor and shield are actually invisible.
  • Glacier Waif: When compared to the male melee-focused Warriors, Seonhwa is small and thin. But she boasts some of the highest defensive capabilities of all Warriors and can even withstand Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs from the Iron Arm Warrior without losing ground, albeit with effort as she's huffing from the exertion.
  • Happily Married: In the original timeline, she was married to and had children with Minsu.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Due to the nature of her abilities, Seonhwa needs her opponent to attack her shield so she can return the damage they tried to deal. So when she confronts the Iron Arm Warrior, she goads him into blindly rushing at her by calling him a meathead.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Seonhwa's armor and shield are styled after Sir Galahad of the Knights of the Round Table. Seonhwa herself is kind and noble, only not taking to the field immediately against Minsu because Yeji promised the government would help come up with a plan involving multiple Warriors. She gives Uiho every chance to stand down and repent before engaging him in combat.
  • Martial Pacifist: Seonhwa prefers the diplomatic approach to solving problems but will not hesitate to fight back if the approach fails.
  • Morph Weapon: Her shield can change size, going from as big as her to as big as a several story tall building that requires several helicopters to carry it.
  • Powered Armor: Despite her knightly appearance, her armor and shield are actually a sophisticated suit of powered armor. It can cloak itself to make it appear as though she's unarmed and in nothing but her civilian wear and lets her endure Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs from Uiho Jeong, the Iron Arm Warrior.
  • Situational Sword: Seonhwa's powers work based on a series of conditions that must be met to unlock other abilities. Completing these "quests" lets her retaliate rather than simply block the attacks of others.
  • Stone Wall: Her shield and armor possess similar toughness to the likes of the Iron Arm Warrior's skin. Her battle strategy primarily consists of tricking her foe into attacking her shield so she can return the damage they tried to deal. The battle between them is described as a fight between the two "strongest shields".
  • Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Object: Discussed in her battle with Uiho. Both of them are known for their extremely high defensive capabilities, to the point that the fight between them is considered a contest between the "ultimate shields".
  • Warrior Therapist: In at least one timeline, she successfully talks Minsu down and gets him to repent, thus forcing Seongjun to reset the timeline.
  • World's Strongest Woman: In the original timeline, Seonhwa is described as the strongest woman in the world. She proves her chops when she defeats Uiho by turning his own strength against him while not losing ground against his Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs. This is in contrast to he other female Warriors, who specialize in magic, faith powers, or use a Hyperspace Arsenal.

    Junho Yu, the Verdant Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/verdure.png

The Warrior of the Verdant World. Thanks to never having harmed a single life, Junho was summoned to the Verdant World by its god Yggdrasil and given its powers under the condition that he continues to never harm another life. Once he returns to Earth, he finds himself thrown into the fight again when Minsu rampages and later joins Jeongsu’s team to stop the Sword Warrior.

  • Actual Pacifist: Never harming another life is what made Junho qualified to gain Yggdrasil's powers. After receiving it, the he is forced to continue being a pacifist thanks to the rule where he will lose his powers if he harms a life.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: The Verdant Warrior naturally has green hair, as the root word for "verdant" is the Latin word "viridis", meaning "green".
  • Conditional Powers: The powers given to him will disappear the moment he harms another’s life, turning him back into a normal human.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: He's already pretty androgynous to begin with, but when geared up as the Verdant Warrior, he looks even more feminine thanks to the flowers in his hair and the low pigtails.
  • Foil: To the Plague Warrior. Both of them are Warriors who lack martial skill and fighting prowess compared to the other Warriors. But Junho was chosen for his unwillingness to harm others and used his powers to heal the scars of damaged world. The Plague Warrior was chosen specifically for his lack of compunctions about hurting others so he can massacre an entire world. Junho is a true Ordinary High-School Student with a loving family, friends, and teachers, the Plague Warrior was destitute and alone with no one to care for but himself.
  • Green Thumb: His powers involve creating plant life to cure various ailments. The dandelion flowers and seeds, described as Yggdrasil's youngest child, purge all diseases and harmful substances inside living beings while also giving the recipients immunity to the source of their illness. He can also manipulate wood to create functional prosthetics, replacing Jeongsu's arm with a wooden replacement even stronger than Jeongsu's old arm.
  • Healing Hands: Junho has the power to heal any disease in others and can even create a prosthetic arm that's even stronger than Jeongsu's original arm.
  • Man of Kryptonite: He can heal any affliction in others, thus making him the perfect counter to the Plague Warrior’s powers.
  • Non-Action Guy: His powers have no destructive abilities and he will lose them if he ever harms another intelligent lifeform. As a result, he's completely unable to do battle with the other Warriors.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He seems to have developed this dynamic with Jeongsu during their time in Indonesia, with Junho acting as the more emotionally open Sensitive Guy to Jeongsu's stoically angry Manly Man.
  • The So-Called Coward: While he wants to admit to Yggdrasil that the true reason he never harmed another was simply because he was too cowardly to stand up for himself, Junho still stands up and does what he can when he is needed.
  • Sole Survivor: Out of all the Korean Warriors who fought the Fallen Warriors before Jeongsu came back, Junho is the only one who came out alive without life threatening injuries. In the original timeline, however, he was one of the three Warriors who lost their lives in the Warrior Crisis, the other two being Dohun Lim and Taeil Choi.
  • The Smart Guy: Junho is very intelligent to the point he even deduces that he used to be one of Seongjun's comrades in another timeline, much to Seongjun's surprise.
  • Support Party Member: Thanks to his power’s condition of never harming another’s life, all his powers as a Warrior revolve around supporting others. He can purge illnesses, manipulate wood to create shelter, and even create prosthetics.

    Taeil Choi, the Combination Warrior

Once an orphaned delinquent taking out his anger at being abandoned the other dregs of society, Taeil committed suicide to atone for his actions that led to his foster brother being crippled by a biker gang Taeil angered. Instead of dying, however, he found himself in the Combination World and became its Warrior. After returning to Earth, he turns a new leaf and is desperate for a way to make up for his past crimes, finding it when the military needs a Warrior to defeat the Plague Warrior.

  • Ambiguously Brown: He's noticeably tanner than any of the other Warriors in the story. He's spent his whole life in South Korea, but it's unclear who his parents were.
  • The Atoner: After saving the Combination World and returning to Earth, he goes to the police and offers to do anything to turn his life around, regretting the criminal actions he did in the past.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After his foster brother Minjae is placed into a coma as Revenge by Proxy for Taeil antagonizing the local gangs, Taeil lost all hope in himself and murdered said gangs before committing suicide. Even after being transported to the Combination World, he refused to do anything but sit on a remote island and let himself starve to death until the key convinces him to seek redemption to "even the scales" by dying for the sake of others.
  • Driven to Suicide: After his enemies paralyze his foster brother as Revenge by Proxy, Taeil murders several of the people responsible before driving a stolen motorcycle into an incoming train out of guilt.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Even before being sent to the Combination World, he was a delinquent capable of crushing an entire biker gang on his own with his bare hands.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was abandoned at an orphanage by his parents, leaving him with a spiteful grudge against them and the kind of world he lives in where something like that could happen. If he was abandoned in a Crapsack World, then he was going to act like someone who deserved to be abandoned, acting out as a delinquent to cope with his feelings of abandonment. These feelings were only intensified when he managed to meet both of his parents again and learned that his mom wanted nothing to do with him and his dad just wanted money.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: How Taeil always dies in every timeline where Warriors fall and rampage. Taeil always sacrifices himself to take down at least one rampaging Warrior, sometimes even taking out two or three. In the story’s timeline, Taeil dies from his injuries after he defeats and kills the Perfect Warrior Mareum.
  • Heroic Willpower: Among the South Korean Warriors, Taeil by far has the most willpower and nothing will stop him from taking out at least one rampaging Warrior. His willpower is so much that he can ignore a wound that should’ve killed him immediately long enough for him to take Mareum with him to the grave.
  • Humongous Mecha: His powers as the Combination Warrior allows Taeil to summon a giant mech and with the mech’s key, combine with nearby technology and absorbing its traits. Taking a fighter jet, for example, and combining it with his mech gives it boosters and wings and allowing it to fly.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Taeil’s key regrets manipulating Taeil’s emotions, making him become an atoner desperate to do anything to make his life more valuable and thus equal to the life of his foster brother’s that he ruined. But it had no other choice since Taeil was the Combination World’s only hope of survival and he was deliberately refusing to fight, choosing instead to die a slow death by starvation.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Taeil is hot-headed, rude, and crass. He became a delinquent specifically to spite what he sees as a Crapsack World. But even at his lowest, he cares for other orphans and steals money specifically to let them buy better food.
  • Martyr Without a Cause: Because of his Death Seeker tendencies and belief in Redemption Equals Death, Taeil plans to go out swinging against Mareum and give his foster brother all the credit to secure his welfare. He believes this will "even the scales" for his actions. Minjae, who survived the incident and managed to recover enough to walk with a crutch, chews out Taeil over this, declaring it as just another time Taeil did things without regard for how he's affecting the people who love him. Rather than taking responsibility for his actions, Minjae calls Taeil's intended death the work of a Manchild running away from the consequences of his actions.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He expected to live a life as a delinquent until the day he died. But Taeil is horrified when his foster brother is targeted as Revenge by Proxy. As revenge, he beats the entire gang senseless and murders several of them with his bare hands. Then he commits suicide out of guilt, sending him to the Combination World.
  • Recruiting the Criminal: Taeil is the only Warrior with a criminal record prior to being transported to another world. This makes him more expendable to the South Korean government than the more clearly heroic Warriors like Seonhwa and the Exorcist Warrior, which is why Taeil is pitted against Mareum, the deadliest Warrior.
  • Reformed Criminal: Once a delinquent who regularly stole and assaulted people, Taeil turns over a new leaf when he came back to Earth.
  • Taking You with Me: No matter what Seongjun does in each timeline where the Nine Warriors rampage, Taeil always takes out at least one rampaging Warrior thanks to sheer force of will. All Seongjun can do is ensure Taeil only takes out one Warrior, noting that sometimes he can even take out two or three before he dies.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Has this reaction after he committed suicide only to wake up in a strange world with a stranger key calling him savior.

The Nine Warriors

Minsu Kim, the Sword Warrior (Unmarked Spoilers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minsu1.png
Half Armour
Warrior
Demon Lord

The Big Bad of the story and the Warrior of the Sword World. Minsu Kim longed to return back home after being summoned to the Sword World but when he got back, he found his parents had died during the last year. After being rejected by everybody he knew, Minsu Kim snapped and used the powers he gained in the Sword World to make the rest of humanity feel the same misery that he feels.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses his limbs during his fight against Ivan. He uses the shards of his sword to replace his lost limbs after becoming a Demon Lord but loses one of those arms in his fight against Seongjun.
  • Artificial Limbs: After his arms and legs are destroyed by Ivan, Minsu Kim replaces his limbs with his Hero's Relic, Duranktal, as part of his transformation into a Demon Lord.
  • Berserk Button: Daring to be happier than him. When he first clashes with Jeongsu in the underground shelter, he initially contemplates just letting the Spear Warrior kill him to put an end to his suffering, only to change his mind when he sees a glimmer of hope in Jeongsu's eyes. The realization that killing him would bring Jeongsu some level of peace after crossing his own Despair Event Horizon — something Minsu can no longer hope — drives him into an Unstoppable Rage.
  • BFS: Duranktal default form is absurdly huge, being nearly twice as long as Minsu is tall and just as wide as him.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Prior to rising up to the challenge of becoming the Sword Warrior, Minsu was shy, prone to crying, and not at all confident in his ability to save the world. By the end of his adventure, he's matured considerably but is shaken by the dangers of the Sword World and the people he lost along the way.
  • Dissonant Serenity: After becoming a Demon Lord, Minsu slaughters people by the hundreds of thousands with a completely apathetic expression on his face, illustrating his sociopathy and near-complete detachment from his former humanity.
  • Driven to Suicide: In a few timelines, Minsu couldn't handle the guilt of murdering so many and committed suicide, forcing Seongjun to reset the timeline.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite sinking past the Despair Event Horizon and becoming a Demon Lord, Minsu still loves his teammates from the Sword World. He demands Seongjun go back in time and save them from their deaths at Ivan's hands and is livid when Seongjun refuses.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: After becoming a Demon Lord, Minsu develops star-shaped patterns in his eyes, emphasizing his detachment from humanity and his transformation into a monster.
  • Forced into Evil: Unknown to Minsu, all the tragedies that piled up onto him after he returned from the Sword World was orchestrated by Seongjun for his plan of turning Minsu into a Demon Lord. In timelines where his parents didn’t die, Minsu remained a hero and didn’t fall into despair.
  • Good Is Not Soft: In the original timeline, Minsu was a kind, selfless man who used his powers to aid and protect others. However, he was more than capable of killing other Warriors to end the Warrior War.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Minsu Kim is the Sword Warrior and uses a giant sword, which can transform into a smaller sword when needed, as his main weapon. However, by the time the story starts, Minsu is no longer a hero and has become the Big Bad.
  • Hope Crusher: His initial goal is to create a world where everyone is just as miserable as him. To that end, he takes particular issue with Jeongsu Park the Spear Warrior, whose crusade against the rampaging Warriors has given the people of the world a reason to hope for an end to the chaos Minsu created.
  • Light Is Not Good: Minsu's design evokes the image of a Knight in Shining Armor, with his ornate white armor and holy aura that accentuates his abilities. In the timelines where he didn't fall into despair, he was a straight example of Light Is Good. But in the current timeline, he's a mass murderer with a bodycount in the hundreds of millions and is the Big Bad of the story.
  • Morph Weapon: Durantkal is capable of splitting into two swords to help Minsu deal with multiple foes or someone who can parry his sword swings. After becoming a Demon Lord, Durantkal becomes his new arms while creating legs out of energy after they were frozen off by Ivan.
  • Motive Decay: He claims to have only started killing to keep himself sane, as he believes everyone around him refused to understand his suffering. But by the time he leaves Korea to lay waste to the rest of the world, he admits to Ivan that he doesn't even know why he's doing this anymore.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In a few timelines, several Warriors convinced Minsu Kim to stop his rampage and realize what he had done. Seongjun had to reset the timeline whenever one of these scenarios took place because it meant Minsu Kim could no longer become a Demon Lord.
  • Never My Fault: Minsu blames everyone else for his killings, claiming that it was the only way he could remain sane after everyone refused to understand him. People who tried to defend themselves by attacking him are just as guilty in his eyes even though he was the one who swung first.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: The armor Minsu wears is extremely tough. When combined with the blessing of the Sword World's goddess, Seraphine, Minsu can completely No-Sell the other Warriors’ attacks that can vaporize city-blocks. After becoming a Demon Lord, his durability increases even further as now he can outright survive the explosion of hundreds of nuclear bombs when before, a nuke was one of the only weapons mankind had that could kill Warriors.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Minsu always goes for the kill the moment he enters battle. He does not banter, he does not negotiate, and he does not entertain any of his opponents’ antics. The moment he recognizes you as an enemy is the moment he swings his sword to kill. Even during the timelines where he remained a hero, Minsu refused to take any chances and killed any would-be Demon Lords Seongjun tried to raise before the transformation was complete, ignoring Seongjun’s pleas for him to stop.
  • The Paragon: In the timelines where he didn't fall into despair, he was a beloved symbol of justice fighting to end the Warrior War. He would always stand against the fallen Warriors and kill any would-be Demon Lords that Seongjun tried to create, proving an enormous thorn in Seongjun's plans to die.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Double Subverted. Minsu's eyes were a startling shade of red even during his heroic adventures as the Sword Warrior. Seria didn't trust him because of the fate of the Clerics before him, but learned to trust him for his kindness and gentle nature. But after returning home and going over the Despair Event Horizon, he plays this trope straight as a monstrous mass murderer with blood red eyes.
  • Sword Beam: Minsu is capable of flinging waves of energy from his sword, Durantkal, with the same cutting power as the sword itself has. He killed the Magic Warrior this way by purposefully holding back so the Magic Warrior would underestimate his range and power, only to take his head with one of these sword beams. After becoming a Demon Lord and replacing his limbs with Durantkal, Minsu gains the ability to project enormous grids of cutting energy with a wave of his hand. This lets him prematurely detonate Russia's entire nuclear arsenal with ease.
  • Stock Light-Novel Hero:
    • Minsu is a twisted parody of the Revenge Hero. Instead of getting his Happily Ever After following his victory over the Demon Lord, he was sent so far over the Despair Event Horizon that he decides to take out his anger on all of humanity for the crime of being happier than him.
    • In the timelines where Sunjeong did not drive Minsu into despair, Minsu played the Everyman Hero straight. He was an Ordinary High-School Student who rose to the challenge and befriended others with his kindness and courage. With a family and friends to come back to, Minsu selflessly uses his power to protect others, is Hot-Blooded enough to trash talk in the midst of a fight, and is beloved by all for his heroism.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: Minsu's hair is bleached white upon his transformation into a Demon Lord and his already red eyes take on the color of the blood and develop Satanic star-shaped patterns. Combined with his gleaming white armor and flowing red cape, it shows that he's now an unearthly being detached from humanity.
  • World's Strongest Man: Minsu Kim is the Sword Warrior and the strongest of the fallen Warriors. Although he lacks the esoteric abilities or range of the Transformation Warrior, the combination of his toughness, strength, speed, and range make him nigh-unstoppable in a one-on-one fight. Out of all the Warriors, Minsu Kim is by far considered the strongest and Seongjun was never able to defeat him in battle no matter how many times they fought. This was a major obstacle to Sunjeong's attempts to turn someone else into a Demon Lord to kill, as those would-be Demon Lords would be killed by Minsu single-handedly before they could become one in full. This is what leads Seongjun to conspire to turn Minsu into that Demon Lord to end the "Groundhog Day" Loop once and for all.

Seongjun Lee, the Resurrection Warrior (Unmarked Spoilers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seongjun.png

The Warrior of the World of Nothingness. He possesses Resurrective Immortality that sends him back in time in the event of his death, allowing him to redo his battles as often as he wants until he wins.

  • The Alcoholic: In at least one loop, Seongjun died of liver cirrhosis from drinking so much alcohol to cope with his stress and grief.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Seongjun has his legs torn off by Minsu in their final battle in Europe. He returns the favor by slicing off Minsu's arm in hopes of weakening him for Jeongsu to defeat.
  • Apologetic Attacker: This is his reaction to killing the Vampire Warrior, calling Hwarong an incredible warrior and hero and making it clear the he deeply regrets having to do this. Seongjun's tears are the first indication that he's not as evil as he appears before the story goes into Seongjun's backstory.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Seongjun’s weapon of choice is the Sword of Beginnings, a sword given to the Resurrection Warriors when they begin their adventure. It starts out with the effect of ignoring 1% of an enemy’s defense but Seongjun upgrades it to the max level of 99, giving it the ability to ignore 99% of any enemy’s defense. Despite this, it still took Seongjun several swings to cut off Demon Lord Minsu’s arm, showing how even with this effect Minsu’s defenses is astronomically high.
  • Battle Couple: Flashbacks show that Seongjun Lee, the Resurrection Warrior was this with his girlfriend and later wife, Somin Jeong, the Spear Warrior, in previous timelines. It's clear that they were as Happily Married as they were formidable during the Warrior War. But their relationship was erased by his own "Groundhog Day" Loop powers. He still, however, cares for her in any timeline and tries to keep her safe.
  • Blessed with Suck: His Resurrective Immortality is the cause of his troubles. This ability cannot be turned off unless he's killed by a Demon Lord. This means that the whole universe is stuck in a "Groundhog Day" Loop that resets whenever Seongjun dies. Even when he's saved everyone and has lived a happy life to the fullest, all of it is undone by this ability no matter how hard he tries to stop it.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Subverted. He's the one most onboard with Minsu's plan of spreading despair and making people miserable as part of a new world order, frequently reminding Minsu to stay the course. In truth, Seongjun does not want to be doing any of this, but he sees his "Groundhog Day" Loop as a worse alternative as it means time will never progress.
  • The Chessmaster:
    • Thanks to his ability to rewind time by dying, Seongjun is able to plan for virtually any kind of eventuality because he can respond to anything that killed him in the past. He's in fact responsible for the entire plot in the first place, as he realizes that his resurrection power has trapped the world in a "Groundhog Day" Loop that will continue so long as he's not killed by a Demon Lord. He spends nearly 400,000 resurrections and 150,000 years of combined time since his arrival home to try and create a situation where Minsu becomes the Demon Lord needed to kill him.
    • Season 2 reveals that he's the one who came up with Operation Fighting Ring to send the heroic Warriors to their deaths against Minsu. He posed as a "Future Warrior" with the power of foresight to convince Director Kim to proceed with this plan while preying on Kim's ambition and paranoia.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Seongjun doesn't look particularly huge when compared to the likes of the Sword Warrior or the Iron Arm Warrior. But a flashback with him from before the events of the story shows him to be incredibly muscular in his own right while enjoying a sauna.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: As revenge for Seongjun's refusal to go back in time and save Minsu's teammates from the Sword World, Minsu kills Seongjun by slowly cutting him apart piece by piece. He flays off chunks of Seongjun's body one at a time at so he can feel every last bit of him getting cut off while refusing to let Seongjun bleed out. Seongjun finally dies, his body has been reduced to what looks like sliced Spam.
  • Deathbed Confession: While he wouldn’t truly die, Seongjun still confessed to Minsu before they were nuked that he was the one who killed Minsu’s parents.
  • Death Is Cheap: Seongjun cannot be permanently killed, as any death he experiences will simply send him back in time to let him redo things over again. The only loophole in his power is that he will be permanently killed if the killing blow is struck by a Demon Lord. He's been actively planning for this the whole time, as this power has trapped the entire universe in a "Groundhog Day" Loop.
  • Death Seeker: Everything Seongjun has done has been to turn Minsu into a Demon Lord so that he can finally die permanently. Unlike many other examples, it isn't simply that Seongjun is tired of his immortality but that his powers are keeping the world stuck in a "Groundhog Day" Loop.
  • Decoy Backstory: From Season 1 of the comic, the reader already knows that he's the Resurrection Warrior who was summoned to the World of Nothingness. However, in the Prequel Season 2, he presents himself as the "Future Warrior" with the power of foresight to Director Kim. His promises to ensure Kim's glory and success convince Kim to enact Operation Fighting Ring, sending South Korea's heroic Warriors to die one by one against Minsu ostensibly for the sake of South Korea's future security. This ensures the Foregone Conclusion that all of Korea's heroic Warriors will be dead or dying by the events of the main story.
  • Didn't Think This Through: This is basically what caused the whole overarching conflict in the first place. Seongjun selected the power of Resurrection in the world he had been transported to so that he could return home more quickly. He didn't realize at the time that the power would kick in if he died from old age, which effectively trapped Earth in a "Groundhog Day" Loop after he got back home. Seongjun's desperation to free Earth from the time loop would lead him to driving Minsu into despair in order to turn him into a Demon Lord, the only being capable of permanently killing him.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Many timelines had Seongjun accompany one of the fallen Warriors. He kept them alive and encouraging their rampages until they became a Demon Lord, the only being able to kill him and bypass his Resurrective Immortality. But these attempts always ultimately failed thanks to other Warriors until Seongjun eventually succeeds with Minsu.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: During one of his lives where he just gave up and decided to watch the other heroes fight from the safety of his home, Seongjun has a realization. Before, he believed only the Demon Lord of the world he saved could kill him. But he then realized that the rule he can only die if killed by a Demon Lord meant ANY Demon Lord could kill him. This realization gave Seongjun the will to continue, clean himself up, and proceed with his plan to create a Demon Lord from among the fallen Warriors that can kill him.
  • Explosive Results: Seongjun upgraded his equipment in the RPG Mechanics 'Verse he was sent to to the point that trying to upgrade it further would have an infinitismal chance of success and would instead destroy the equipment in a violent explosion. He weaponizes this in his final fight by starting an upgrade attempt before hurling them at Minsu, causing the weapons to blow up and creating a smokescreen for Seongjun's next move.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Seongjun's eyes are rarely opened, indicating his more calculating nature. They used to be open much more frequently back when he was just a traditional heroic Warrior, but going through 150,000 years of a "Groundhog Day" Loop caused by his own powers wore him down. In reality, his eyes are shut both because he's been through the plot enough times that he can literally do most of it with his eyes closed and because he knows he's surrounded by the hundreds of millions he's allowed to suffer just to orchestrate his permanent death. The few times he opens his eyes in the present, it's clear just how tired he is of being alive for so long.
  • Exact Words: His resurrection powers will activate upon death unless he is killed by a Demon Lord. As Seongjun begins to slowly realize after living several happy lives and dying from old age only to return back to the day he returned to his world, his powers will activate upon any cause of death.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: While he always seems to be sneering and content, closeups on Seongjun's face reveal these, showcasing just how tired he is from living in looped time for so long and watching his friends and family get reset over and over. By the end of his final battle with Minsu, Seongjun's eyes are puffy and blue because of the sheer exhaustion he felt from fighting the same battle tens of thousands of times.
  • Face Death with Dignity: As a Death Seeker, it's a given, and while he doesn't quite Go Out with a Smile (especially given what it took to get himself permanently killed), Seongjun spends his last moments in peace in spite of the Cruel and Unusual Death Minsu gives. Unfortunately for everyone, Seongjun's calm reaction to his death clues Minsu in on the fact that the Resurrection Warrior was responsible for all of his tragedies, leading him to go into an outright Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Fate Worse than Death: This is the source of his anguish. Seongjun's Resurrective Immortality will only be turned off in the event that they're killed by the Demon Lord. This means that the whole world is stuck in a "Groundhog Day" Loop that resets upon Seongjun's death. All of his accomplishments, the friendships he makes, and the love he experiences will be undone and he'll be put right back at the moment he arrived on Earth. This power has driven him nearly insane and he takes drastic measures to break the loop by turning Minsu into a Demon Lord who can kill him.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Later episodes retroactively reveal that Seongjun was close friends with all of the other Warriors in previous timelines, even managing to prevent any of them from falling into despair and evil in some time loops. But these timelines were undone by his own power. His desperation to let the universe move forward leads him to fight and get his friends killed while playing the part of a villain as part of his plans to turn Minsu into a Demon Lord who can kill him.
  • Fling a Light into the Future: Seongjun manipulated events to turn Minsu into a Demon Lord so that he could finally die and put an end to the "Groundhog Day" Loop his powers had trapped the world in. However, he's also knows that, once he's dead, the rest of the world will have to deal with a being hell-bent on destroying the world. So he decides to face Minsu in a fight to the death in order to hopefully weaken Minsu enough for Jeongsu to stand a chance.
  • Flunky Boss: Thanks to a glitch when combining upgrade materials, Seongjun can summon floor bosses from the Resurrection World. Usually they’re useless because thanks to their programming to attack the strongest player nearby, they would just attack Seongjun instead of his enemy. However, when Seongjun fights the far stronger Demon Lord Minsu, the floor bosses focus on Minsu instead of Seongjun.
  • Genre Savvy: Upon being summoned by his goddess to the World of Nothingness, Seongjun notes that the circumstances of his summoning are identical to the hundreds of light novels and video games produced by South Korea every year depicting Peggy Sues or those with a New Life in Another World Bonus. So he winds up approaching his battles in the same way as the many Resurrective Immortality heroes in novels like SSS-Class Suicide Hunter. Unfortunately, Seongjun isn't savvy enough and didn't realize the Exact Words of his powers until it's too late.
  • Greater-Scope Hero: While his powers are the source of the plot's issues, Sunjeong's fought for thousands of years of looped time to free all of humanity from the ordeal he caused, giving Jeongsu the tools to defeat Minsu and finally allow time to march forward.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: While Minsu is the Big Bad, Seongjun is ultimately the one to have driven him into murderous despair for the sake of ending the "Groundhog Day" Loop. As a result, the deaths of hundreds of millions are indirectly a result of Sunjeong's manipulations.
  • Groundhog Peggy Sue: Seongjun's Resurrective Immortality sends him back a whole day before his latest death, letting him redo his next encounter with the knowledge he gained from his previous deaths. This makes him appear untouchable from an outside perspective, as he may experience a fight dozens of times when his opponent is meeting him for the first time. Later chapters reveal that he's been repeating the events of the story for 150,000 years of accumulated time, trying every possible option to end his immortality and the time loop keeping mankind hostage. He's being doing this for so long that he can murder any of the South Korean Warriors with his eyes closed except for Minsu, the only Warrior too powerful for him to ever beat head-on.
  • I Am a Monster: When Seongjun appears to wipe out the leadership of the Korean military forces, the last surviving staff member declares all Warriors to be monsters. Seongjun scoffs at him, saying, "The only one who's a monster is me.", showing how he feels more culpable than any other Warrior.
  • Irony: It’s only when he gives up on relying on his resurrection powers and live with only one more chance left, does Seongjun feel like he’s alive again and fights at a level where he wonders why he ever relied on his resurrection powers in the first place.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: In at least one timeline, he killed Somin Jeong as part of his efforts to stop the Warriors from congregating and killing the Demon Lord he was trying to create. He insists that he did what he had to do, but he admits to himself that he's not making sense anymore and that timeline got reset anyways. It's later implied that he was close friends with nearly all the Warriors and even saved all of them from falling into villainy in at least one loop. But since this timeline is going to inevitably reset, he returns to the hell of his own creation and gets most of those same friends killed in his final loop.
  • The Last Dance: After giving up on using his resurrection power by choosing to fight Minsu to the death, Seongjun finally unleashes his full power and uses all of his weapons at once. In doing so, he achieves a clarity and reaction speed he never achieved when he was assured of his Resurrective Immortality, to the point that he wondered why he relied on the power at all. Even while he's finally being killed, Seongjun dies with a smile, having finally died without regrets.
Seongjun: Okay. One last time. No regrets.
  • Last of His Kind: Following his death, the World of Nothingness never summoned another Resurrection Warrior again, making Seongjun the last of the Resurrection Warriors.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After his death, his spirit is shown walking into the afterlife. But before he leaves, he turns around and says not to thank him, because he's done awful things too. While this statement is presumably directed at Jeongsu, Garam, and the other surviving Warriors, he looks straight at the reader when he says this, as if reminding them that he's still responsible for enormous tragedy and shouldn't be given a free pass.
  • Older Than They Look: Seongjun Lee, the Resurrection Warrior, sppears to be a teenager like the others. But due to his Resurrective Immortality powers that rewind time to before his death, he's mentally much, much older, having redone things thousands upon thousands of times. By the time Minsu becomes a new Demon Lord, Seongjun has spent nearly 379,000 lives or a total of 150,000 years of experienced time to this point.
  • Power Incontinence: The entire plot comes about because of Seongjun's inability to turn off his Resurrective Immortality no matter how hard he tries. Even trying to extend his lifespan via technology fails to prevent his "Groundhog Day" Loop from ending.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Seongjun knew he would be responsible for the death and suffering of hundreds of millions of people when he drove Minsu into despair to turn him into a Demon Lord. Rather than just be satisfied in having created the being that could finally kill him and put an end to the "Groundhog Day" Loop his powers created, he decided to fight Minsu to the death in order to hopefully damage him enough for the other Warriors to finish him off after Seongjun died.
  • Stepford Smiler: Sunjeong always seems to have a sneer on his face while butchering people along with the other fallen Warriors. He is perhaps the most tragic of all the Warriors, having watched all of his accomplishments, his friendships, the love of his life, and even his child vanish suffer a Ret-Gone repeatedly as a result of his own power. He longs for nothing more than to die and end his "Groundhog Day" Loop for the entire world.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Theoretically, Seongjun can defeat any opponent with enough tries thanks to his Resurrective Immortality. However, Seongjun is still human and the mental stress of dying thousands of times just to move an inch forward is too much for him to handle. This is why he could never defeat Minsu since Minsu was so powerful, he could kill Seongjun enough times for him to reach his mental limit and give up fighting the Sword Warrior.
  • Survivor Guilt: Sunjeong Lee, the Resurrection Warrior, feels directly responsible for all the lives Ret-Gone by the "Groundhog Day" Loop his powers have trapped Earth in. He purposefully cultivates the image of a wicked villain while trying to create a Demon Lord to kill him just so no one would try to empathize with him, lest his heart shatter into a million pieces.
  • The Many Deaths of You: Many of his resurrections since returning from the World of Nothingness were spent experimenting with ways to die or prolong his life. From being taken into Damien's embrace, to robotocizing himself, to being killed by his fellow Warriors. Several thousand of his deaths were because he simply suffered a heart attack from the unbearable stress and guilt of his situation.
  • Tragic Villain: Even among the fallen Warriors, Seongjun is this. He would rather be a straightforward hero and live a happy and peaceful life, but his powers have trapped the world in a "Groundhog Day" Loop, and every time he dies in any way, he's forced to watch his friends and family get erased from existence to make way for the reset timeline. After realizing the horrific implications of his abilities, he became desperate enough to drive Minsu into despair to turn him into a Demon Lord, the only being that could permanently kill him, even though he knew it would result in the deaths of hundreds of millions.
  • Trauma Button: Seongjun stops the Verdure Warrior from empathizing with him and his pain, as it would cause his stress and his conscience to come back with the sheer guilt of what he’s done crushing his heart.
  • Tragic Time Traveler: The way his Resurrective Immortality works is that when he dies, he gets sent back in time, and it's very quickly established to be as much a curse as itis a blessing. Seongjun has been stuck in a "Groundhog Day" Loop for 150,000 years, as his immortality will only end if he's killed by a Demon Lord. The stress and guilt he feels for this is so severe that he spends several thousand loops instantly dying of a heart attack when he's sent back in time. By the events of the story, he kills many of his closest friends from previous timelines and orchestrates the deaths of 1.4 billion people to turn Minsu into a Demon Lord capable of killing Seongjun for good and end the loop keeping everyone on Earth hostage. The story makes it clear that he's miserable the entire time and he has Exhausted Eye Bags from how exhausted he is mentally and emotionally.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's impossible to talk about Seongjun in any depth without revealing his pivotal role as both the Greater-Scope Hero and the Greater-Scope Villain of the story who set the plot of the comic in motion.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Seongjun lacks the Nigh-Invulnerability of most of the other Warriors to most weapons. He instead has a vast arsenal of weapons with strange abilities and Resurrective Immortality to let himself redo his fights however many times he pleases. This makes him even more dangerous than the Sword Warrior, as while he isn't quite the same Person of Mass Destruction, no two methods will work twice because he'll get wise to your first attack after experiencing it once. And revealed during his fight with the Demon Lord Minsu Kim, his lack of durability is simply because he never bothered to put on any of the armor in his inventory.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Seongjun's ultimate goal is to end the "Groundhog Day" Loop that Seongjun's powers have trapped the world in by turning Minsu into a Demon Lord who can kill him. But to achieve this goal, he willingly plays the part of a villain responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths and displacing countless others, if only because all of his alternative options failed.

    Garam Lee, the Transformation Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garam4.png
Before her transformation
As a Cyborg
Current

The Warrior of the Transformation World. She was transformed into a hulking monster of cybernetics boasting technology and firepower far beyond the ken of man.

  • The Atoner: Garam could have taken up Marie’s identity after getting her consciousness transferred to Marie’s clone body but decides not to, stating that she must pay for the crimes she committed and refuses to hide from them by assuming Marie’s identity.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Along with a Hyperspace Arsenal, Garam has access to a seemingly limitless supply of missiles, laser cannons, and other weaponry at her disposal. At no point is she shown stopping to reload, only needing some time to charge her most powerful weapons. Justified by her using technology from the extremely advanced Transformation World.
  • Brought Down to Badass: After being given Marie's clone body, Garam loses all of her super-powerful cybernetics. However, she is still the 21st century Transformation Warrior with scientific knowledge beyond what mankind is currently capable of. As a result, she's able to repair other technological Heroes' Relics like the Metamorphosis Belt and aids in the heroes' efforts to stop Minsu.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: Subverted. Garam Lee uses Spock Speak when talking to Marie while going on and on about how it's illogical for monsters like them to live among humanity. But as the fight goes on, Garam gets increasingly frantic and angry, especially when Marie says that Garam's true desire is to be human again. This shows that for all of Garam's smugness and adherence to logic, she is still, a human being at heart and yearns to be one. Marie's final sacrifice to turn Garam back into a human shakes Garam to her core, leading her to ultimately undergo a Heel–Face Turn and help the survivors of humanity take down Minsu.
  • Deflector Shields: Garam is able to project a shield made of plasma capable of withstanding a barrage of ballistic missiles developed by Marie and Neil Slizard without taking any damage.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Upon being granted a human body by Marie's earnest act of kindness, Garam decides to side with Jeongsu and the remaining heroes in order to stop Minsu from destroying all of humanity.
  • Humanity Ensues: Marie sacrifices herself to inject Garam with a special device that would transfer her mind to a clone of Marie's human body, therefore making Garam human again. She's elated to be human again, but also wonders how Marie could possibly forgive her and want her to be happy after everything she did.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: She's capable of revealing and firing many times more missiles than should be logically capable of fitting inside her body, implying that her technology has the means of storing weapons in some kind of pocket dimension.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: While she talks about the fraility and stupidity of humans, Garam's dearest wish is to return to her friends, boyfriend, and family. But due to her transformation, none of them recognize her and they flee in terror at her approach.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Even among the Warriors, Garam has the greatest potential range and destructive power of them all. When she leaves South Korea, she first threatens to split North America in half as part of her rampage before she's stopped by Marie.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Garam is often assumed to be male by outsiders because her machine body completely conceals her identity.
  • Spock Speak: As a Full-Conversion Cyborg, Garam speaks with mocking, technical diction as she sneers at humanity's imperfections. But as she gets more and more frantic, it's clear that this is a facade she's using to cope with how she desperately yearns to be human again after fighting so hard to return home, only to be shunned by everyone she loved.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: After fighting so hard to return home, Garam's machine body has her treated as a monster. After being forsaken by everyone she loved, Garam decided to become the monster everyone thought she was.
  • Transforming Mecha: She has multiple forms, from a humanoid form for general-purpose combat, an artillery-like form for energy blasts that can split a continent, and a jet form for high-speed travel and to penetrate deep into fortified strongholds.
  • Transhuman Treachery: After being converted almost entirely into a machine in the Transformation World, Garam Lee aims to cause as much destruction and mayhem has she can to vent her anguish at being unable to belong on Earth. After Marie dies turning Garam back into a flesh-and-blood human, Garam undergoes a Heel–Face Turn because of Marie's kindness and unwavering faith in her and all of humanity.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: after being turned into a Mini-Mecha armed to the teeth with weapons (while also having rows of machine teeth), Garam's appearance terrified her parents, her friends, and her boyfriend, who all fled from her as she tried to reconnect with them. This, along with the Korean military attacking her out of fear, makes Garam snap and become the monster that everyone believed she was.

Uiho Jeong, the Iron Arm Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeong.png

The Warrior of the Iron Arm World. Uiho was once a superhero comic loving teenager bullied for his weight until he was summoned to the Iron Arm World. After returning from the Iron Arm World, he became a massive and muscular man who killed anyone he deemed to be evil and fought to enact his twisted sense of justice upon the world.

  • Ax-Crazy: Even among the evil Warriors, Uiho is especially murderous, considering anyone weaker than him to be a villain and that murdering them is imposing "justice".
  • Breath Weapon: After activating his Suicide Attack, he gains the power to shoot a powerful beam from his mouth capable of blasting through buildings and hurling Jeongsu away.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: The Iron Arm Warrior in particular is a corrupted version of popular comic book heroes. But his costume and Lightning Bruiser powers seem to take particular inspiration from All Might, between his twisted sense of justice, overwhelming strength and durability, and even announcing that "I have arrived!" upon slaughtering a contingent of the Korean military.
  • Death Seeker: After learning that his dearest friend hates him as a result of the actions leading to being sent to another world, Uiho Jeong, the Iron Arm Warrior promises to kill himself along with all of the other "villains" he blames for the circumstances that led to her falling into a coma.
  • Dirty Coward: Instead of fighting against his bullies with his friend, he chose instead to commit suicide and jump from the top of the construction site they were at. His friend ended up in a coma because he ran away and blames him for it.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The only person Uiho cares about is his female friend, who he befriended thanks to both being social outcasts. After coming back from the Iron Arm World, Uiho is devastated to find his friend is both in a coma and hates his guts for abandoning her, leading him to promise he’ll kill himself along with all the villains of the world.
  • Formerly Fat: The Iron Arm Warrior was originally an overweight high school student named Uiho Jeong who was bullied for his size. After being sent to the other world, he became an incredibly muscular superhero completely unrecognizable from his former self as a result of the augmentations he received.
  • Implacable Man: Even among the Warriors, Uiho is exceptionally tough, with Seongjun comparing him to Minsu in terms of durability. Lasers, missiles, and bullets all detonate against him harmlessly. Even being temporarily stranded in space without any oxygen fails to kill him and he soon makes his way back to Earth after drifting into a space station. The first thing to cause him real harm is Heukto, Jeongsu's new lance from the Spear World. And he only dies after he activates his Suicide Attack and then crushes his own heart becaues of his own Death Seeker desires. Even then, he survived having his head cut off and could have kept fighting until he exploded.
  • Insane Troll Logic: With emphasis on the "insane" part. Uiho is out to punish all "villains" across the world. And by "villains", he means anyone who is weaker than him or attempts to defend themselves or others from his murderous rampage.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Uiho has no esoteric abilities like the other heroes. All he has is overwhelming strength, durability, and speed. This alone is enough to make him one of the most dangerous Warriors.
  • Logical Weakness: As tough as Uiho’s body is, he’s vulnerable to wave-like attacks that can rattle his brain. Which is how Sung-Ah, the Shield Warrior, knocks him out.
  • Might Makes Right: Uiho Jeong, the Iron Arm Warrior, possesses a twisted sense of morality that declares all those weaker than him are villains to be destroyed by the power of "justice". For this reason, he ventures across the land, slaughtering every man, woman, and child he can get his hands on for the "crime" of being weaker than a nigh-invulnerable monster capable of approaching the speed of sound. This is because Uiho was bullied by other students for being overweight. His bullies justified their actions by declaring that the ones in power can claim justice, just as the comic book character that Uiho admired always beat up those weaker than him. When Jeongsu defeats him, he admits that while he still doesn’t believe he did anything wrong, Jeongsu is now the new justice of the world.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Uiho will murder anyone without a second thought if he believes they're villainous. And by villainous, he means "weaker than him", allowing him to come up with the flimsiest reasons to murder hundreds or thousands of men, women, and children.
  • Off with His Head!: He's finally defeated when Jeongsu beheads him with Heukto, Uhio then rips out his heart and crushes it once he acknowledge that Jeongsu defeated him, dying shortly afterwards.
  • Suicide Attack: The Iron Arm Warrior's trump card is a special capsule nestled in his body that contains a serum with the powers of every single superhero of its world. Breaking this capsule causes Uiho's already impressive strength and speed, both comparable to Minsu, to go into overdrive, making him a supersonic juggernaut that thrashes Jeongsu. This is on top of regeneration that allows him to recover from getting a hole the size of a basketball torn through his chest. But this serum will inevitably overload his body and kill him in the end.
  • Super-Toughness: Even among other Warriors, Uiho has durability a notch above the rest. Only the strongest of attacks can pierce his body. Word of God states that all Iron Arm Warriors manifest one superpower in addition to their standard Super-Strength, with Uiho's being his ridiculous durability.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Uiho may be one of the physically strongest and toughest Warriors around, but he displays no actual fighting skills or ability to think strategically. Physically weaker Warriors, like Jeongsu and Sung-Ah are able to fight him equally with pure skill and tactical thinking.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: If Uiho lets somebody live, it’s only until they do what he wants. When he gets that, he immediately kills them.

Jiseong Cheon, the Martial Arts Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cheon.png

The Warrior of the Martial Arts World. A man of few words who mastered many martial arts during his time in the Martial Arts World and uses them to exact revenge upon the world for what it has done to him.

  • Attack Reflector: His martial arts allow him to deflect sufficiently large projectiles back at the wielders. He kills several Korean soldiers by sending one of their rocket-propelled grenades back at them.
  • Brought Down to Normal: He's forced to use his inner qi in his final clash with Jiwon, allowing Jiseong to survive at the cost of losing all of his superpowers. This also renders him vulnerable enough to be killed by a Korean special forces agent hidden in his home precisely for this moment.
  • Cope by Pretending: Jiseong arrived home to find that his grandmother long dead and her body decaying. Unable to cope with his grief, he hallucinates that she's still alive and speaking to him. He goes about his daily routine and prepares food for her before leaving to join the Nine Warriors each day. When staring down a barrel of the gun for the last time, Jiseong is so delirious that he asks if his grandmother brought guests over before being shot to death.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Jiseong used to live in a toxic environment where his parents argued constantly until his mother brought him to live with his grandmother. Over time, he grew close to his grandmother and loved her dearly but one day, he slipped and fell to his death. He was summoned to the Martial Arts World and by the time he came back, his grandmother had passed away. In his grief, he retaliated against the government agents sent to recruit him, believing them to be the ones responsible for his grandmother’s passing.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Jiseong’s grandmother is the only person he cares about and her passing while he was in the Martial Arts World is what caused him to fall.
  • Friendless Background: In flashbacks, Jiseong is not shown to have any friends, spending his days going to and from school to spend time with his ailing grandmother, his only parental figure.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Jiseong nearly breaks his fingers trying to deflect a thrown spear attack from Jeongsu that vaporizes Hana above the ankles. Seeing this, Jiseong and Hana both step back to allow Minsu to confront Jeongsu.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Jiseong's eyes glow a sickly purple beneath his demon-faced mask, showing his deadly powers as Poisonous Person.
  • Life Drain: His Cheonma Spirit Absorption Technique steals away the life force of the person Jisong is grabbing. Unfortunately for him, Jiwon is already biologically dead from his injuries and is only continuing to move through sheer willpower.
  • Man on Fire: After losing to Jiwon, Jiseong is left flailing and screaming as he's burned alive in the flames created by Jiwon's overheating suit, orcing him to use his true inner qi to survive..
  • Not So Stoic: After being The Stoic and The Quiet One for most of the story, Jiseong gradually loses his composure the longer his fight with Jiwon drags on. He can't believe that a walking corpse can push him this far. By their final clash, Jiseong screams at Jiwon to die already, as Jiseong is forced to use his true inner qi to match Jiwon's Triple Accelerate Mode.
  • Parrying Bullets: Jiseong can parry bullets with his fingers alone, doing so when the Korean military opens fire on him to distract him while Yeji puts out the fires engulfing Jiwon's body.
  • Poisonous Person: Jiseong is able to produce venom with his Cheonma techniques, shaping it into snakes to bite into his foes.
  • The Quiet One: Unlike the other Warriors who often revel in their villainy and mock normal humans, Jiseong rarely speaks.
  • Supernatural Martial Arts: Jiseong became a master of numerous forms of martial arts in the Martial Arts world, from hand-to-hand combat to weapon usage to Enlightenment Superpowers.

    Seungu Jeon, The Golem Warrior

The Warrior of the Golem World. Seungu was summoned to Golem World and successfully defeated its Demon Lord. However, upon returning home, he was kicked out of his home by his father and denied any aid to help him get back on his feet. Despairing over his lack of reward for saving another world, he joined the the Nine Warriors and retaliated against humanity for rejecting him.

  • A Lighter Shade of Black: He may be a mass murdering dictator over his colony on Jeju Island but he notes that the people living in his region have it better with him than in regions ruled by the Faith Warrior or the Vampire Warrior, where they’d either be mindless zealots or used for experiments.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Jeongsu slices off his arms during their battle and later cuts off his legs Seungu refuses to give him information regarding the Sword Warrior.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: The powers he gained in the Golem World allows him to create various golems out of dirt. These golems can fulfill a variety of tasks such as enforcers of his will, surveillance cameras, or even as a speaker.
  • Golem: His bread and butter. They normally take the form of disembodied hands and eyes capable of firing lasers.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: He meets his end when Jeongsu hurls his spear through his chest, leaving him with a massive hole
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Part of the reason he fell was because he got no reward for saving the Golem World and instead his personal life became hell as he was rejected by his family and nobody was willing to lend him a helping hand.
  • Squishy Wizard: His golems may be incredibly powerful, but Seunju is about as durable as any other person. The moment Jeongsu closes the distance between them, he quickly loses all of his limbs to the Spear Warrior.
  • Starter Villain: He is the first Warrior Jeongsu Park faces when he returns from the Spear World, and Jeongsu defeats him without any real effort on his part.
  • The Worf Effect: After being shown to be an unstoppable menace to the surviving civilians of Korea, Seungu is effortlessly defeated and killed by Jeongsu to show just how much more formidable the Spear Warrior is.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He breaks down in tears, thinking about how much he doesn't want to die as he desperately tries to escape from Jeongsu after the Warrior slices off his limbs.

     Hwarang Hong, the Vampire Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vampire_hwarang.png

The Vampire Warrior of the Exorcism World.

  • Bloody Murder: Hwarang is capable of manipulating blood as the Vampire Warrior. This allows him to attack others with floods of blood and weapons shaped into blood. He can also fly by creating wings, create animals such as wolves for attacks, and create duplicates of himself to take attacks for him.
  • Disappointed in You: Seongjun ultimately sees Vampir, the Demon Lord that took over Hwarang’s body, as a huge disappointment because not only is he weaker than the original Hwarang, he’s also no longer a Demon Lord and thus cannot kill Seongjun.
  • Grand Theft Me: The individual thought to be Hwarang is actually the Demon Lord of the Exorcism World. Hwarang, the Exorcist Warrior, kept a vial of her blood on him in case of an emergency and unfortunately, she took control of his weakened body and stole his identity.
  • Samus Is a Girl: While it’s unknown what Vampir currently identifies as, Vampir was a female Demon Lord before she took over Hwarang’s male body.
  • Villain Respect: Vampir respects Hwarang for defeating her and chastises Yerin for being a weak Warrior compared to him.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to say anything about the Vampire Warrior without revealing that they are actually the Demon Lord Vampir having taken over the Exorcist Warrior's body.

     Hana Baek, the Faith Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hana_47.png
Past

The Warrior of the Faith World. After returning from the Faith World, Hana is determined to convert, willingly or by force, as many people as she possibly can into her believers.

  • Berserk Button: Don’t claim you understand the pain and fear she feels in her heart. When Damien tries to empathize with Hana, she flies into a rage and says he doesn’t understand at all what she feels.
  • Body Horror: Hana can twist the bodies of her followers into horrific flesh golems that do her bidding.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Hana has the power to convert anyone who feels fear or doubt towards her into her believers, at which point they’ll become mindless zealots who will gladly sacrifice their whole being for her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Before becoming the Faith Warrior, Hana was part of a cult where she and her mother were raped, leaving her full of fear and doubt that she masks with the image of a devout woman.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After returning from the Faith World, the first thing Hana did was get back at the cult leader who raped her by painfully mutilating his body and killing him in front of his cult.
  • Fallen Angel: Despite having gold wings, she has a heavy fallen angel motif to her. She also summons fallen angels to attack her foes.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Unlike everybody else who were either surprised or scared of Jeongsu’s scream of hatred towards Minsu, Hana appeared to be weirdly excited by it.
  • Resurrective Immortality: So long as she has believers willing to sacrifice themselves for her and has faith in her powers, Hana cannot be killed. Even when bound in chains that seal the powers of monsters and Warriors with a stake hammered into her forehead, Hana still will not die.
  • Summon Magic: By sacrificing a sufficient number of followers, she can summon fallen angels to fight for her.

Su-a Shin, the Sea Dragon Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sua_5.png
Past

The Warrior of the Sea Dragon World. After saving the Sea Dragon World from the Demon Lord, Su-a went back to her world with her new husband, the king of Atlas. She is the second Warrior Jeongsu faces and must defeat before he can return to the mainland.

  • Anti-Villain: Unlike the other fallen Warriors, the Sea Dragon Warrior has no actual malice toward humanity. But the actions of the other Warriors labels all Warriors as evil terrorists, forcing her to defend herself and her lover when the Korean miltiary sets their sights on killing them
  • Battle Couple: The sea dragon Su-a rides upon is actually her husband and the King of Atlas. They fell deeply in love over the course of their adventures and he chose to abdicate his throne and follow her to her world as her husband.
  • Berserk Button: She flies into a rage when she sees Jeongsu take her trident, which was given to her by her husband.
  • Breath Weapon: The sea dragon ridden by Su-a can spew flames from his mouth to incinerate those opposing them. The power of this attack is fueled by both Su-a and the dragon’s mana so if Su-a casts a spell, the breath attack weakens.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Su-a refuses to fight anywhere outside of her own terms, fighting at sea where any Warriors who cannot fly will struggle to reach her. She and the king of Atlas blast the entire ship at range with dragon fire, forcing Jeongsu to protect himself with a Deflector Shield while preventing him from getting closer. Upon seeing this, she sends out a Flying Weapon to skewer everyone helping Jeongsu that she could detect before forcing him into a Morton's Fork where he'd either suffer getting impaled from behind or burned by a Breath Weapon. He's only saved by the sacrifice of the last of the navy officers Taking the Bullet for him.
  • Flying Weapon: Su-a can control her trident, the Spear of Atlas, telekinetically with hand gestures after throwing it. She guides the trident to skewer every surviving member of the Korean navy who volunteered to help fight her along with all of the battleship's weapons. It's only stopped when one of the crewmen throws himself in front of the trident and clutches it tightly enough that it can't pierce all the way through him that the trident is stopped.
  • Gratuitous Greek: All of the Sea Dragon Warrior's attacks are named in Greek, such as Ασπίδα του Άτλαντα, or "The Shield of Atlas".
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: This is the ultimate fate of Su-a and the king of Atlas, who are cut in half vertically by Jeongsu once he manages to get in range to fight them.
  • Instant Runes: Her Shield of Atlas and Giant Shield of Atlas abilities involve instantly producing a magical circle that defends against incoming attacks.
  • Luminescent Blush: Su-a was flustered by the handsome King of Atlas when they met and still blushed while being held by him even after they defeated the Demon Lord and were a couple by that point.
  • Power Incontinence: The sea dragon that Su-a rides is revealed to actually be her lover, the king of Atlas. Back in Atlas, he could freely shapeshift between his human and sea dragon form. However, when he decided to be with Su-a and live on Earth, it turned out Earth's more polluted atmosphere was very disruptive to his biology, which forced him more and more into his sea dragon form. Su-a got the two of them on a ferry to a remote island so that he could live out the rest of his days unbothered as a dragon, but he unfortunately completely lost control over his powers on the way, destroying the ferry in the process and getting the two of them labelled terrorists.
  • Smug Super: she's absolutely confident in the defensive capabilities of the Giant Shield of Atlas, as even the Demon Lord failed to penetrate it. So she's alarmed when four layers of the shield are quickly shattered by a single spear toss from Jeongsu and she has to use everything she has to stop it from piercing the final layer.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: After being labeled terrorists by the Korean government and being forced to defend themselves, Su-a and her lover both decide to kill anyone who comes after them, becoming mass murderers in the process.
  • Together in Death. Her and the sea dragon's last thoughts are of how much they love the other before they die next to each other.

    Mareum Yoon, The Plague Warrior

The Warrior of the Perfection World. After committing suicide, Mareum Yoon found himself in the Perfection World where he was tasked with the goal of killing everyone there. Once he accomplished that goal, he returned to Earth to fulfill his own desire to spread misery across the world.

  • Achilles' Heel: While his regenerative abilities may be insane, his true body has a distinctive core in the middle of his chest, that if destroyed, will kill him for good.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: When Mareum was a child and before he became the Plague Warrior, he killed a cat just for nuzzling against his leg. And from his expression, it was likely done out of anger rather than starvation.
  • The Beastmaster: He can control animals that are usually known to carry diseases such as crows and any animal he controls can spread his diseases.
  • Body Backup Drive: If Mareum is killed, his consciousness moves to an infected victim of his that he prepared beforehand and creates a new body that he then assumes.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He lived in such extreme poverty to the point he had to rummage through trash for food and was ostracized by his peers for it as well, leading to Mareum's budding hatred of humanity.
  • Driven to Suicide: The noose around his neck when he was summoned to the Perfection World implies he hung himself before he was summoned.
  • Forced into Evil: Word of God states his powers ensured he was destined to a life of evil. He was also Seongjun’s first near successful attempt at creating a Demon Lord but was killed by Minsu before the transformation was complete. Later chapters, however, have shown that Mareum always had the seed of evil in him and becoming the Plague Warrior simply allowed him to follow through on his desire to eradicate humanity.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Mareum started out as a kid living in extreme poverty and became a human-hating sociopath whose disease-related powers are so dangerous, the rest of the world refuses to send aid to South Korea so long as Mareum is alive. In one timeline, he almost became a Demon Lord thanks to Seongjun’s help but was beheaded by Minsu before the transformation was complete.
  • Hate Sink: While he has a Freudian Excuse for hating humanity, he never displays any redeeming qualities as a person, which stands in stark contrast to the other rampaging warriors who are all shown to have been decent people before being summoned to another world. Tellingly, during Seongjun's Dying Dream of a perfect world where he ensures all of his friends survive, Mareum is the only Warrior absent.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Since his powers revolve around disease, he’s extremely weak to someone who can heal any affliction like the Verdure Warrior.
    • Mareum’s virus along with his bodies can be killed with intense heat like normal viruses, preventing them from spreading his diseases.
  • Mercy Kill: He was summoned to the Perfection World in order to fulfill their desire to die. Mareum is given his plague powers to fulfill this request, something he does with glee.
  • Me's a Crowd: He can create clones of himself made out of contaminated gunk that infects anyone it touches.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Mareum utterly hates other humans and sees his mass murders as cleaning up a mess. In fact, he was summoned to the Perfection World specifically because of his ability to massacre all of them without hesitation, as the denizens of that world had grown tired of their endless lives.
  • No Name Given: His name is not given in the story itself and he's only ever referred to as the Plague Warrior. His name is only revealed in chapter titles.
  • People Puppets: One of his plagues allows him to seize control of another person's body to puppeteer them while they're still conscious. Once he's done with them, he can melt his victim's body and turn it into a clone of himself with his consciousness to attack whoever is nearby.
  • Plague Master: As the Plague Warrior, he has powers over disease and pestilence as one of his predecessors was responsible for the Black Plague. He proves it when he returns to Earth by killing everybody in an airport terminal with a disease that came out of his fingers. The nature of his abilities makes him the Warrior with the highest body count for much of the story, as he massacres thousands upon thousands simply by existing and continuing to spread the plague.
  • Posthumous Character: He's no longer active by the events of Season 1, meaning that it's a Foregone Conclusion that he's defeated in Season 2. We're later shown his death at the hands of the Combination Warrior.
  • Power Misidentification: Maruem was mistakenly called the Plague Warrior because his powers involved creating and spreading diseases. In truth, Maruem’s true title is the Perfect Warrior and his disease related powers was just a way to gather the necessary resources to attain the perfect form capable of wiping out humanity.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has blood-red eyes and is completely lacking in conventional compassion, empathy, or sympathy. When asked to massacre the population of an entire world, he agrees without hesitation.
  • Squishy Wizard: Subverted. Due to Mareum's tendency to hide unless he's actively spreading his plagues, the Korean military assumes that Mareum's ability to fight directly is limited and try to kill him with ordinary soldiers. Unfortunately for South Korea, Mareum is far from helpless and can use the life force of the people he kills to continually regenerate and retaliate with poisonous and explosive attacks.
  • Stutter Stop: Mareum constantly stutters uncontrollably, adding to his creepiness and sense of alienation from others. After transforming into his "perfect" form, he notes that he loses his stutter as part of his ascension.
  • Ultimate Lifeform: Although he's called the Plague Warrior, his true title is the Perfect Warrior, as his goal is to gather enough resources from the people he's killing to become a "perfect being" the infiltrative ability of viruses and bacteria, the adaptability of small animals, the vitality of the largest organisms, and the destructive power of the greatest predators, in order to become "the Origin", a being capable of wiping out humanity. This turns him into a Humanoid Abomination with Kaiju-like proportions.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: His powers make him a nightmarish Person of Mass Destruction who can cause damage on a scale only surpassed by the Transformation Warrior, but when he's forced into a fistfight with the Combination Warrior at the end of their battle, it becomes clear that he has no idea how to actually fight without his powers. Cue a brutal No-Holds-Barred Beatdown at the hands of Taeil.
  • Villain Ball: Mareum’s demise happens ultimately because he cannot help but gloat about his victory when Taeil is shot by Seongjun’s ballista. Mareum is more than shocked when Taeil turns out to not be dead yet thanks to sheer force of will and by then, Mareum loses his only chance to escape.

The Old Guard

Saint Damien Arcadius, the 14th Century Faith Warrior

The Faith Warrior of the 14th Century. Damien was an orphaned, abused child before being sent to another world. Returning as an angelic being, he single-handedly ended the Black Plague and gave bread, milk, and honey to the poor, starving, and bereaved. Canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church for his deeds, he rests in an iron coffin until called upon to oppose the Nine Warriors.

  • Friend to All Children: Saint Damien began his life as a starving orphan before being transported to another world. Upon his return, he became canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church for his generosity, particularly to children, creating milk and honey for the orphans bereaved by the Black Death. His only request for these children was to pass on his generosity to the next generation. In the end, Damien is reminded of what true faith is when he's granted the power he needs to defeat Hana Baek by a group of children who earnestly offer him their prayers out of the kindness of their hearts instead of tradition or dogma.
  • Irony: Of the known Faith Warriors, Damien appears to be the only Faith Warrior who bases their powers on actual faith, with Hana and Belgis basing their Faith Warrior powers on fear and fascism respectively.
  • Older Than They Look: Saint Damien Arcadius seems to have ascended into angel-like figure, as shown by his halo and wings. Although he looks no older than a young teenager, he's in fact the oldest living character in the setting, having been around since the time of the Black Death.
  • Power Gives You Wings: He was an ordinary ten-year-old boy when he was summoned to the other world. After returning, he now possesses a halo and six seraphic wings.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Saint Damien Arcadius, the Faith Warrior of the 14th century, has been resting in an iron coffin kept hidden in a molten pool, waiting for the time his miracles would be needed again after he ended the Black Death by absorbing it into himself.
  • Smug Super: Saint Damien is initially smug in dealing with Hana, confident that the Christian faith will let him completely overpower her. But Hana's refusal to stay down chips away at his power until the tables are completely turned, resulting in him nearly dying until he regenerates before the last orphanage built by the descendants of the children he helped hundreds of years ago. This gives him a slice of Humble Pie and reminds him of his original goal as a Warrior: to create a world where no child is unloved or hungry.

Marie Stevenson, the 20th Century Transformation Warrior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mariestevenson.png
Past

The Transformation Warrior of the 20th Century, Marie was a gifted engineer and inventor from an early age. She was sent to another world by working herself to death trying to support her family and continue her mentor's research. After returning, she used what she learned in the Transformation World to advance humanity's technology, preparing for when Warriors reappear in the 21st century.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: When asked why she is helping humanity instead of going on a rampage like the fallen South Korean Warriors, Marie remembers the American soldiers who treated her as just another human being despite her cybernetics. This kindness led her to prepare to defend her adoptive country and all of humanity from the threats that would rise up in the future.
Marie: This country accepted me for who I am. That's the only reason I need.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Marie Stevenson, the Transformation Warrior of the 20th century, was in fact numerous famous inventors throughout history in various remote bodies, including Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, and John von Neumann. She advanced humanity's through her knowledge of advanced technology from the Transformation World. This means that all of these scientists were in fact a cyborg woman who was sent to another world.
  • Foil: Marie strongly contrasts her 21st century successor, Garam. Garam is smug, boasts about the superiority of her technology, and vents her frustrations and loneliness on others. Marie is humble, shares her knowledge to collaborate with others, and willingly isolated herself for the sake of preventing panic and fear. Garam's cyborg body is a sleek Transforming Mecha with a Hyperspace Arsenal, while Marie's is rounded and bulkier, making her less threatening-looking. Marie is also a golden-haired, kind-hearted woman who chose to devote her life to helping others, while Garam is obsessed with how she can't reclaim the life she lost. Marie was also a natural Gadgeteer Genius born to an impoverished family, while Garam was an Ordinary High-School Student who lived comfortably.
  • Full-Conversion Cyborg: While she retained a much more human-like appearance compared to Garam, beneath Marie artificial skin is an almost completely robotic skeleton.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: As the Transformation Warrior of the 20th Century, Marie gained knowledge and understanding of technology centuries ahead of mankind's. Among her creations are the floating fortress, Silicon Valley, quantum missiles, laser cannons, forcefields, and the giant mecha body she uses to do battle with Garam.
  • Gatling Good: In flashbacks to her past, she has a gatling gun in place of her left arm during battle.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Although she's one of the kindest, most mature Warriors, Marie brings an enormous arsenal to bear against her successor Garam and the Iron Arm Warrior. She assails both Warriors with a barrage of laser cannons, missiles, and an entire robot army. She and her allies even turn the entirety of Silicon Valley into a floating fortress.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Marie is a kind, mature, and loving blonde-haired woman characterized by her overflowing empathy. She was called an angel of the battlefield for helping Allied soldiers in World War II and spent her life trying to support her loved ones and prepare the world for threats ahead. She even goes so far as to give the clone body she prepared for herself to Garam and fulfill the teenager's wish to be human again at the cost of her own life.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Marie sacrifices her life and clone body to give Garam the human body she wanted. The overwhelming kindness of this act is what pushes Garam to do a Heel–Face Turn and join humanity’s side against Demon Lord Minsu.
  • I Am a Monster: Having replaced most of her body with cybernetics using technology far beyond the ken of man, Marie no longer considers herself a human being, calling herself a "monster" and a "tin can". The President of the United States disabuses her of that notion, asking her not to call herself that when her efforts to save as many lives as she can have more than proven her a hero.
  • Meaningful Rename: Marie wasn't born with the surname Stevenson. It was the last name of her mentor who nutured her talent for engineering and his last gift for when he dies and loses everything to a factory fire. By taking on his name, she hoped to continue his legacy.
  • Transhuman Treachery: Subverted. Garam demands to know what Marie would side with an imperfect race like humanity even though they were both transformed into machines. Unlike Garam, Marie's comrades in World War II treated her as just another human being and she was adored as an angel of the battlefield. The constant kindness and acceptance she recieved has left her unshakably tied to the U.S. and humanity itself.
  • Workaholic: Marie was sent to the other world when she worked herself to the point of collapse trying to support her family and continue her mentor's legacy. Even after returning from the other world and serving in World War II, Marie wasted no time gathering like-minded scientists to prepare for the next generation of Warriors in the 21st Century.

    Ivan Pushkin, the Glacial Warrior

The Warrior of the Glacial World. Ivan was summoned to the Glacial World by the Witch of Frost to save it. After returning home, he used his powers to end conflict as quickly as he could in hopes of reducing bloodshed. When Minsu leaves the Korean peninsula, Ivan is called upon by his native Russia to stand against him at the border.

  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: Inverted. When entering melee combat, Ivan prefers to fashion a headsman's axe out of ice to quickly dispatch of his incapacitated foes. However, he's a Reluctant Warrior and a kind man who only wishes for the fighting to stop so people can return to their families.
  • Child Soldier: In addition to being summoned to fight as a Warrior, a young Ivan volunteered to fight in World War I in his preteens in exchange for three months of flour for his starving family. He was sent to the Glacial World by a grenade lobbed into the trench while he was huddled and terrified.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Knowing full-well that he cannot defeat Minsu head-on, Ivan instead focuses on repeatedly battering Minsu to slowly freeze him and the blood in his veins. Even if Minsu possesses Nigh-Invulnerability, he's still a living being who cannot function if his vital organs are chilled to the point of non-functionality.
  • Defiant to the End: Even in death, after forsaking himself and his memories, Ivan tries to slow Minsu's advance by dissolving into snow to make it more difficult for him to walk.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Ivan lives in a humble cabin in Oymyakon, the coldest permanently inhabited settlement on Earth. The Russian soldiers sent to recruit him are dressed in heavy coats because of the frigid weather. Meanwhile, Ivan is perfectly comfortable in nothing but his officer's uniform, showing how his affinity for ice has rendered him immune to the intense cold.
  • Feeling Their Age: As powerful as he is, Ivan starts to suffer the effects of living for more than a century in his battle with Minsu, exhausting himself as he unleashes everything he has to defeat the Sword Warrior. This leaves him too weakened to beat Minsu's allies from the Sword World when they arrive to rescue Minsu. The Witch of Frost lampshades this, as she both pities and mocks him for his aging, frail body.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Ivan Pushkin, the Glacial Warrior and unsung hero of Russia, hates fighting and would like nothing more than to see a world where people live peaceful lives with their families. But when called back into service to battle the Sword Warrior, Ivan pulls no punches and goes at Minsu with everything he has. Of all the Warriors before him, he comes the closest to killing Minsu by freezing the blood in his veins. His attempt is only thwarted by the arrival of Minsu's comrades from the Sword World, who are unaware of his homicidal rampage across the world.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: The battle between Ivan and Minsu ends with Ivan having becoming as merciless as the man he was sent to kill, as he slaughters Minsu's entire party from the Sword World, whose only crime was trying to protect their beloved leader because they didn't understand the context of the situation. To drive the point home, Ivan taps into a power that turns him into a skeletal lich-like creature even more terrible than the Demon Lord of the Sword World.
  • Humble Hero: Ivan's only dream is a world free of conflict after experiencing two cases of War Is Hell in both World Wars. When Siegfried asks if Ivan has any ambitions at all with his powers, Ivan responds that he only wants the war and bloodshed to end so families may reunite. Even after the war, Ivan refuses all luxuries save for the medals on his jacket and eeks out a quiet existence in the most remote and coldest settlement on Earth.
  • An Ice Person: Ivan was summoned to the Glacial World by the Witch of the Snow, granting him vast control over ice. He can create amazingly hard constructs out of ice tough enough to take hits from Minsu and match him blow for blow. The sheer cold of Ivan's attacks can instantly kill normal living beings from frostbite and hypothermia and freeze even Warriors solid.
  • Last of His Kind: He learns from the Witch of Frost that his 21st century counterpart died trying to fight the Demon Lord of the Glacial World, leading to the world's destruction. This makes Ivan the last, and in the Witch's eyes the greatest, Glacial Warrior.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Minsu Kim’s comrades from the Sword World assume Ivan is the Demon Lord of his world and fight to protect Minsu Kim until he is healed, unaware that Minsu Kim has become a mass murderer intent on killing all of humanity and Ivan is one of the last heroes trying to stop his rampage.
  • Old Soldier: Ivan is a decorated member of the Russian military for his service in both World Wars before being called into service to stop the Sword Warrior from invading Russia. Although he's well over 100 years old, Ivan's mastery over ice and strategic use of his powers makes him a formidable opponent even for the nigh-unstoppable Minsu.
  • One-Man Army: Ivan Pushkin, the Glacial Warrior, fought on behalf of his native Russia during World War II. He single-handedly defeated Jonas and Siegfried, the Golem Warrior and Sword Warrior of the 20th century, during the Battle of Stalingrad. He's also the man who comes the closest to killing Minsu, only failing due to the intervention and sacrifices of Minsu's comrades from the Sword World.
  • Reluctant Warrior: Ivan would much rather quietly live out his days in a world free of war than make use of his powers as a One-Man Army. He fights only to end conflict and protect others, but is willing to be ruthless in ending a war as quickly as possible.
Ivan: I never wanted to be a Warrior in the first place. My sole reason for being... is to see a world where people love one another and do not seek to kill each other.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: In addition to conventional weapons like swords and axes, Ivan is able to shape his ice into animate sculptures of anything he can imagine. This includes the Russian and German armies of World War II along with the 20th Century Golem Warrior and Sword Warrior, all of which he brings to bear against Minsu.

Hans Joseph Belgis, the 20th Century Faith Warrior

The Faith Warrior of the 20th Century. He proudly fought for Nazi Germany during World War II, during which he was the single most dangerous Warrior of the war. He was sealed in crystal by Sir Pendragon, a Warrior fighting on behalf of the United Kingdom, before being unleashed in the 21st century to stall Minsu's advance.

  • Body Backup Drive: His Faith Warrior powers allow him to make the body of any one of his followers his own and complete overwrite their personality in the event of his death, making it impossible to kill him without either wiping out his followers or deactivating his powers first.
  • Body Horror: Belgis, the Faith Warrior of the 20th century, has the ability to turn any of his brainwashed followers into any equipment he could possibly need for war. He's able to twist human bodies into binoculars, tanks, airplanes, and back, which the comic goes into disgusting detail to show how horrific it is.
  • Cult: Belgis, the Faith Warrior of the 20th century, is able to convert anyone into a follower of Nazi fascism through his Compelling Voice so long as the listener is at all receptive to what he preaches. He can then convert his brainwashed followers into any kind of military equipment, horrifically twisting their bodies into binoculars, guns, and fully armed and conscious tanks and planes.
  • Ghostapo: He's a Nazi propagandist with the power to turn anyone who listens and is receptive to his Compelling Voice into a follower of his. He can then twist those same people into living weaponry to field against his foes.
  • Logical Weakness: Belgis converts anyone into his followers if they are at all receptive to his words. Belgis is shocked when he sees that his words have no effect at all on Demon Lord Minsu Kim because he simply isn’t paying any attention at all to what Belgis is saying.
  • The Minion Master: Compared to his 14th and 21st Century counterparts, Belgis does very little fighting himself. He primarily relies on his ability to turn people into autonomous war machines under his command to overrun his foes. As shown by the Nazi swastikas he injured Sir Pendragon with, Belgis can fight on his own, but prefers not to.
  • One-Man Army: Belgis, the Faith Warrior of the 20th century, was the most dangerous Warrior of the time. His Compelling Voice allowed him to instantly convert thousands into being his followers, which he'd then turn into weapons of war like automated tanks and airplanes. This makes him a one-man war machine capable of completely turning the tide of the western front of World War II. He was only defeated by the combined forces of three Warriors. Even then they fail to kill him, only sealing him away at the cost of Sir Pendragon's life.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Belgis, the Faith Warrior of the 20th century, was sealed inside crystal by Sir Pendragon, a Warrior fighting on behalf of the United Kingdom. The seal could only be broken by a special key he gave to then Princess Elizabeth II as leverage in case the United Kingdom ever fell into crisis. When Minsu becomes a Demon Lord after his teammmates are killed by Ivan, Queen Elizabeth II authorizes the European Union to break Belgis' seal and set him loose against Minsu, sacrificing thousands of Russian refugees to buy time for the rest of Europe to evacuate.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite the fearsome threat he posed in World War II, Belgis is completely outclassed as a threat by Minsu in the long-term, showing just how dangerous Minsu has become following his transformation into a Demon Lord.
  • Zerg Rush: Belgis' primary strategy is to overwhelm his foes by turning people into enormous quantities of tanks and planes and other weaponry before they can mount a proper defense.

Korean Government

    Yeji Ahn

The former leader of the Counterterrorism Team of the National Intelligence Service and the interim leader of the South Korean military.

  • Action Survivor: While she's helpless in a fight againt the fallen Warriors, Yeji's intelligence, connections, and resourcefulness prove instrumental in the fight against Minsu. She rushes to the battlefield to put out the flames engulfing Jiwon despite the risk and organizes Operation Relic Retrieval to give Jeongsu a chance of defeating the other Warriors.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Yeji is protective of her younger brother, Jiwon, picking a fight with the same boys who bullied him when they were kids. As an adult, Yeji's protective instincts extends to all of the Warriors who volunteered to fight against Minsu, as she feels it's her responsibility to help these teenagers who are risking their lives for others get home.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Yeji lost her right eye when it was struck by sharpnel caused by one of Minsu's rampages, leaving her to cover it with an eyepatch. She only got away with that much because her brother, Jiwon, returned from the Metamorphosis World just in time to rescue her from being crushed by falling debris.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Yeji is a kind, moral, and responsible leader who would prefer her men get home than not. But she and her subordinates understand that they're fighting a war for survival. They resort to every dirty trick they can in order to gain an edge over the Warriors and the Warriors' followers, with many of them laying down their lives for the sake of the future.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: She's crushed when she's forced to field her mostly dead younger brother, Jiwon, against Jiseong because Jeongsu was still recuperating. Yeji wonders how she's any different from Kim and her other bosses for doing so even as Jiwon volunteers to fight without hesitation.
  • Ignored Expert: Yeji repeatedly implored her older, male superiors to wait for her to gather up a group of like-minded Warriors who would oppose Minsu and overwhelm him with their combined strength. United Kingdom

    Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth Realms. Although her position as monarch is largely ceremonial, she is well-aware of the existence of the Warriors and counsels the Prime Minister on how to handle the evacuation of Europe.

  • The High Queen: Although her role is largely advisory to Prime Minister Graham, Queen Elizabeth shows great concern for civilians even outside of the United Kingdom. She advises the prime minister to not be worried about preserving the United Kingdom's military for the sake of future politics and instead preserve as many lives as he can in this time of crisis.
Queen Elizabeth: ...I cannot interfere, as it is your job to make decisions regarding the armed forces. But between a country that abandoned its citizens to preserve its military and a country that risked the decline of its national power to protect its people to the bitter end... which do you think the world will respect more?
  • Historical Domain Character: She is a fictional version of the (then-living at the time of publication) Queen Elizabeth II. Although she is never named, the fact that she was referred to as "Princess" during World War II and is referred to as "Her Majesty" clearly marks her as this.
  • Lady and Knight: She is implied to have had this relationship with Sir Pendragon, the Crystal Warrior who was loyal to the United Kingdom. After being mortally wounded by Belgis, he spends the last minutes of his life rushing to her side to hand her the only key capable of unleashing Belgis as a bargaining chip and nuclear deterrent. He then begs her to be a wise and just ruler before succumbing to his injuries.
