The Galactic Southwest:

Eriaduan Noble Houses

    In General
  • Acquired Poison Immunity: Due to having lived on a toxic world for centuries now Eriaduan's have a slightly higher tolerance for poison than other humans in the GFFA.
  • Action Girl: While some noble families are even more human centric than the Empire there is no sexism on Eriadu and many women serve in the ORSF.
  • Aerith and Bob: Like SW in general they include both Earth Names as well as Fantasy ones but tend to lean more towards the former, possibly justified due to many families holding onto names from the dawn of humanity.
  • All Germans Are Nazis: In Universe. Even though most of them have been born years after the fact the protagonists are several times confronted with the deeds of Wilhuff Tarkin, especially the destruction of Alderaan.
  • Amazon Brigade: The Outland Regions Security Force is one of the few militaries in the GFFA to segregate it`s squads by gender, making half their units this. Averted with the Rangers and Corporate Mercenaries though.
  • Ape Shall Never Kill Ape: The Honor Code of the Eriaduan nobility states that nobles don't kill other nobles. Not that it hasn't been ignored on various occasions but usually the 'proper' way of dealing with rivals is to politicially outmanuever or humiliate them, with loosers of such conflicts being exiled either temporarily or permanently.
  • Arranged Marriage: Have become rare amongst the nobility but still happen on occasion.
  • Church Going Villain: Most evil Eriaduans, though ironically not the Tarkins, are devout members of the Pius Dea Faith, especially the Goddess Militia.
  • Fantasy Counter Part Culture: Generally Averted as Eriadu is described as a mix of various earth cultures and nations.Being a exiled religious people seeking a new haven for their faith, brings Jews or possibiy Mormons to mind. At the same time the Pius Dea Crusades and their aftermath are a dead ringer for the American Deep South in the post Civil War era, including a KKK Expy. Being largley dominated by family owned Mega Corps brings the Japanese Zaibatsu to mind. In addition to that Eriaduans to experience the IU Version of All Germans Are Nazis over the deeds of Wilhuff Tarkin meanwhile the modern Eriadu is the effective leader of a loose coalition of equals ewoking the EU and modern day germanies role within it.
  • Les Collaborateurs: At the end of the day pretty much all Eriaduan Houses collaborated with the Empire and only turned on it when it began to fall apart. The few Houses who outright opposed the Empire, most prominently House Grant were largley purged by the Tarkins during the Imperial Rule. Yet to this day barely any House aknowledges the collaboration, instead labling Houses like Tarkin, Kyr and Delvardus as The Scapegoat.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Many people throught the story are vary of Eriaduan's because of the destruction of Alderaan. Even those who had nothing to do with the Tarkins and/or were born afterwards. Mirroring the All Germans Are Nazis Trope.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: How evil the various families are varies wildly, but most of them are elitist human centrists, though unlike the Galactic Empire, all Eriaduan families, even the Tarkins, don't discriminate against women or queer people in the slightest, as long as they are human that is.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Eriaduan nobles are often xenophobe elitists, yet even they were utterly appaled at the destruction of Alderaan.
  • The Exile: Eriadu, and it's colonies, are this for the last remaining Pius Dea Faithful who colonized the region in the first place to have a heaven for their faith. Some do dream of an eventual return to Coruscant but most have long since accepted Eriadu as their home.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Loosing ones nobles status is considered this by many nobles, an even worse fate is for the entire family to loose the status, as happened with House Kyr and Delvardus.
  • Irony: The Pius Dea Religion is extremly humancentric, yet the most xenophobic House on Eriadu, the Tarkins, are amongst the few who have given up the religion.
  • Luxury Prison Suite: Ulrika mentions that nobles who go to prison without loosing their noble status usualy get prefered treatment in jail. Those who do loose their status though are not so lucky.
  • The Maiden Name Debate: Mostly intermarrying amongst each other Eriaduan nobles will always take the name of the member of the couple who has a higher, personal standing in society. This means a noble from a smaller, less influential family marrying into a more powerfull one will take their name. Tough this isn´t always the case. For example Tobin Redan, a younger son of one of the five most powerfull families, marrying Ilona Malek, the head of a minor noble family, took her name, because while his family was much more influential he himself as a younger child/sibling had a lower status than Ilona who was the head of her family. (in the rare chase that two heirs/heads to a family fall for each other both also might keep their original last name as Eriaduans general avoid creating double last names(like Organa-Solo) because in their mind it shows one is not fully committed to the marriage).
  • One Nation Under Copyright: While they style themselves as noble Houses the Eriaduan Nobility essentially is made up of several hundred examples of a MegaCorp whose five most influential come together in The Quintad, which is technically just an 'advisory council' to the democratically elected Governor but in truth controls the state due to their absolute control over the worlds economy.
  • Outgrown Such Silly Superstitions: Some noble families like the Tarkins have abbandoned the Pius Dea faith, though as the Tarkins prove that doesn't mean they abandoned the human centrism as well.
  • Pilgrimage: Many Faithful Eriaduan nobles travel to Coruscant at some point in their lives and make their way down to the surface of the planet to "pray at the cradle of humaniy" depending on how faithful they are they might go level by level on foot which can take months. Several Houses also pay for their, human, workers to once in their live travel to Coruscant and experience a short version of the pilgrimage.
  • Redeeming Replacement: The Redan for the Tarkin's. While they are quite Elitist and Militarist themselves the Redan are far less human centric and generally much more pragmatic. They also are Rim patriots as opposed to the Tarkin's core wannabe stance.
  • The Remnant: The oldest Eriaduan Families hail back to the Elite of the Pius Dea Crusaders, while some even claim to go back to pre spaceflight Coruscant.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Enforced as most Eriaduan Noble families requires their older children to serve the family or the state in some way. The oldest child is generally groomed for a career in politics and/or economics, while the second child is expected to join the ORSF, it`s usually the youngest children who end up as a Spoiled Brat.
  • Token Good Team Mate: Several in the past, most notably House Grant, to the point that they were openly speaking out against the Empire which lead to them being purged by the Tarkins during the dark days. The similar liberal House Grau only escaping the same fate due to the Odd Friendship between Jimbo Grau and Sander Delvardus. Later on the Malek's would pick up the Grant's cause amongst others.

House Grau "Fortune Favors the Bold"

    In General
  • Arc Words: Their family motto is: "Fortune Favors the Bold" speaking to their tendency to take risks and suceed due to quick and decisive action.
  • Badass Family: Every member of the Grau Family who appears is some way of a badass. Ulrika and Jimbo are ORSF Veterans, Helena and Magdalena were sucessful underworld figures, Arjen is one of the best limmie players of his generation his wife Ella has been quite crafty and capable not to mention together the two of them seemingly took down a host body of Abeloth. Finally Mira is a Jedi Knight.
  • Badass Normal: All of them expect Jedi Knight Mira.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Many members of House Grau can come off as quite eccentric and irresponsible, but they will kick ass with the best of them.

    Helena Grau
The Founder of the Grau family, also the Smuggler from Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • The Ace: One of the most sucessfull criminals in the history of the Galaxy.
  • Anti-Hero: She fought the Sith... but also had no real love for the Republic.
  • Anti-Villain: She was a ruthless criminal... but also had a soft spot for the little people of the Galaxy.
  • Anything That Moves: Slept with men, women, humans, aliens, Jedi Masters and Sith Lords.
  • Bad Ass Normal: Had no Force Powers, also didn't become The Outlander.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Like her descendant Ulrika.
  • Broad Strokes: In the game the female Smuggler can only sleep with various men, (due to the "no queers" rule in, most of, Star Wars Legends) while the Story mentions Helena Grau slept with both various men and women, eventually ending up with Akaavi Spar who in game is only romancable for a male Smuggler.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Helena darted between being an Anti-Hero and Anti-Villain, but she utterly despied the Sith as well as the pratice of slavery.
  • Fiery Red Head: In contrast to the dark blonde hair of the present day Grau Helen was a redhead.
  • Karma Houdini: While not without her softer sides she was a ruthless career criminal and never faced any major punishment for it.
  • Long-Dead Badass: While we don't know how and when she actually died she has long since passed away by the time of the story.
  • Neighborhood-Friendly Gangsters: For all her faults she always lend a hand to the Galaxies lower class, investing a considerable sum of her money back into their communities. Doubles as Pragmatic Villainy.
  • Our Founder: The Founder of the Grau families criminal Empire, though they would only become nobles thousands of years after her lifetime. Still the Grau family considers Helena Grau their matriach.
  • Pirate Girl: Eventually became an Admiral of her own raiding fleet.
  • Really Gets Around: Slept with pretty much everyone who was intrested. The Author even suggests Helena Grau actually had the "dinner" with Satele Shan.
  • Wild Card: Instead of following the games light or dark side paths Helena followed her own code of honor. Being willing to help the little people of the Galaxy, as well as those she found attractive, often even for free... at the same time she had no love for the Republic beyond considering it A Lighter Shade of Grey compared to the Sith, leading to her taking the Voidwolves Fleet for her own in the end, which is the Dark Side Ending of the Plotline.

    Ulrika Grau
The main Heronie of the first Generation.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Had her first time with Corvyn Scales the Bad Boy of their class, though it was all about sex and didn't last.
  • Anything That Moves: Has his reputation, though a lot of it is exaggeration, unlike her ancestor.
  • Badass Biker: As a teen.
  • Bash Brothers: With Laric, they are opposites in therms of morality, yet respect and fight alongside the other.
  • Been There, Shaped History: She was a key factor in the Peace Brigade Rebellion at the end of the Vong War.
  • Bifauxnen: Like her wife and niece, and unlike her daughter, this is the look Urika goes for on formal occasions.
  • Book Dumb: While she is far from dumb in her job and daily life she is the least well read of the main characters, often having to rely on Elena or Ilona to provide historical or political context.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Befitting a tomboy/professional soldier.
  • Breakout Character: Originally just introduced as a rival for Ilona she quickly became the lead character and the focus shifted to her family (though Ilona and hers remain certal as well).
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Ulrika certainly doesn't act like a professional military commander, with several weird quirks and a very informal demeanor. Still she is one of the best soldiers and commanders Eriadu ever had.
  • Brains and Brawn: Forms this with Elena, being the brawn as the capable confident leader and soldier.
  • Chaotic Good: Her allignment if she existed in an D&D setting.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Is flirty and kinky but a good person and kind lover.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Fancasted as Ruby Rose.
  • Cool Aunt: To Mira, to the point of adopting her into nobility, technically they are cousins but due to the age difference Mira calls Ulrika her aunt.
  • Determinator: "It`s no longer a suicide mission if Ulrika Grau get's involved."
  • Driven to Suicide: During the Vong War Ulrika was forced to participate in a massacre of unarmed POWs in order to keep her cover as a spy intact. The guilt drove her to try and kill herself via a Vong toxin. Though she survived due to Eriaduan's Acquired Poison Immunity after two months in a field hospital.
  • Ethical Slut: Ulrika used to sleep around quite a bit, but she ultimatley is a good person.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Ulrika has dark blonde hair and quite an impressive sexual history.
  • Fangirl: Of amongst others Aayla Secura and the pirate Queen Q'anah.
  • Fantasy Forbidding Aunt: Downplayed and eventually averted, but Ulrika is quite hesitant of letting her adopted niece Mira become a Jedi, due to the high mortality rate of the order. Instead asking her old friend Asajj Ventress to train her. Though when Mira reached adulthood and made the descision to become a Jedi, Ulrika gave her, her blessing for it.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: Inverted Trope Ulrika is about as butch as it get's, yet her daughter Lena is a very feminine fashion designer.
  • Four-Star Badass: After she is eventually promoted to General, then Ranger Chief.
  • Freudian Trio: The Id to Elena's Ego and Ilona's superego.
  • Good Parents: Had them, now is one herself to Mira and Lena.
  • Happily Married: Eventually with Elena.
  • Nom de Guerre: Her callsign is The Boss
  • The Infiltration: Her specialty. First together with Elena in the Peace Brigade, later in a shady nightclub and on the slavemarket of Qaelan.
  • The Maiden Name Debate: Actually averted between her and Elena as both of them continued to keep their original last name in their marriage.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She is fancasted as Ruby Rose so that's a given.
  • Prank Gone Too Far: She suggested the girls should raid the boys summer camp. It ended with her, accidentially, costing Tobin one of his eyes.
  • The Rival: With Ilona, lasting for over two decades, though the rivarly pushed both of them to rise above most other people.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Or woman in this case, Ulrika sleeps around a lot but ultimatley her heart belongs to Nice Girl Elena.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Ulrika always faced the Galaxy with the believe that she was the most amazing thing in it, which often lead to her getting into trouble. Subverted later on as she actually becomes an important person and also scales down her ego, a bit.
  • Spoiled Brat: Downplayed but she could come of as callous and overconfident due to her parents spoiling her relentlessly. Eventually outgrew it alltogether.
  • The Teetotaler: Suprisingly given how hedonistically she tends to act Ulrika never drinks alcohol after becoming a soldier.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Was tested on this multiple times, most prominently in 'The Value of Freedom', choses to be good every time.
  • Worthy Opponent: With Ilona and the feeling was mutual, eventually they outgrew the 'opponent' part altogether.

    Mira Grau
Ulrika's adopted niece (technically her cousin) and protagonist of the next generation.
  • 0% Approval Rating: Becomes a Galactic Pariah due to the Sith's Frame-Up with even the Coalition labeling her a terrorist publically.
  • All-Loving Hero: Mourns even the enemy soldiers she has to kill.
  • The Apprentice: First to Asajj Ventress, later to Callista.
  • Bifauxnen: Like her aunts, this is the look Mira goes for on formal occasions.
  • The Cavalry: Leads the Khanat's fleet in the battle of Corellia, turning the tide of battle in favor of the defenders.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Fancasted as Brianna Hildebrand
  • Dating Catwoman: Falls in love with both Imperial Knight Yosh and Pirate Girl Beth who are technically her enemies (infact she arrests Beth during their first meeting).
  • Establishing Character Moment: Mira`s first scene has her dine with Pirate Queen Beth, flirting and bantering with the pirate while in shackles. Across the conversation she takes more and more control of the situation, revealing to Beth just how outmatched she is, up and including arranging for the ORSF reinforcements arrive in system at just the right time. When they do she casually uses the force to unlock her cuffs and tries to convince Beth to surrender. Despite being able to easily overpower and disarm the pirate she offers Beth the chance to stand down on her own, a chance the young pirate eventually takes. As she arrests her Mira gently teases her captive while also reassuring her she made the right descision. The chapter showing us Mira as a clever and resourceful woman who is not above teasing and sarcasm but ultimatley tries to avoid fights and believes in the good in people.
  • The Exile: Mira has to flee to the Unkown Regions after escaping the core because Hett brands her as a terrorist and sends legions of bounty hunters after her. In truth she also travels there to find allies for the coming war.
  • Foil: To Luke Skywalker:
    • Mira and Luke were both children primarily raised by their aunt('s)/uncle, both wanted to travel the Galaxy and experience adventure while looking up the Jedi. Both of them had their guardians try and keep them away from the order because of the Jedi`s dangerous lifestyle. Both end up facing the Sith Lord ruling over the Galaxy and becoming a symbol in that fight. Both are mentored by old Clone Wars heroes and later have a to shoulder a huge burden despite their young age. They also share the ability to find friends and allies amongst former enemies, culminating in both of them starting a relationship with a red haired female former enemy of theirs. Both also just barely manage to escape their respective Arch-Enemy and suffer a Heroic B So D afterwards. Though were Luke grew up a relativley poor farmboy Mira grew up as a privileged noble. Luke was trained by Obi Wan Kenobi, Mira by his Worthy Opponent Asajj Ventress. Where Luke became a Jedi after he lost his adoptive parents, Mira made the choice to join the order after she reached adulthood with the, reluctant, blessing of her aunts. Also were Luke becomes known as the hero who destroyed the Death Star, Mira is branded a terrorist for most of the Galactic Population becoming a hated figure. Luke suffered his Darkest Hour after finding out Vader was his father, Mira who lacks a personal connection to the antagonist instead had a Crisis of Faith over the people she had killed in her escape. Luke is also far more powerful than Mira could ever hope to be, eventually being able to face and defeat Vader on his own, while Mira has to rely far more on her wits and allies to suceed. Mira is at best servicable at flying surviving several space battles only because of the Force and capable allies, while Luke is an Ace Pilot. Also were Luke was given the task to rebuild the Jedi Order, Mira had to swear to lead the Khanate after Callista passes away, to become the next protector of the Galaxy against Abeloth. Also on a lighter note while both are addicted to unhealthy "Earth" meals Luke perfers Hot Chocolate a sweet drink, while Mira likes Cheeseburgers a hearty food.
  • Frame-Up: The GA labels her a terrorist and agent of a Sith conspiracy after she escapes the core, with even the Coalition pretending to follow suit.
  • Happily Adopted: Played with in that her parents (a maid and a janitor) are actually alive and well, though she was primarily raised by her aunts Ulrika and Elena who adopted her into nobility.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: A drawn out version, as she had to swear to one day inherit Callista's mantle as protector of the Galaxy from Abeloth, meaning that while she is free right now eventually she will have to leave everything behind to lead the Khanate... there is a way out though, should Abeloth fall before Callista dies, in that case Mira would be free.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Strikes up ones with Lando Calrissian and Callista Ming.
  • Nice Girl: While not above gently teasing others on occasion Mira is generally a kindhearted young woman.
  • Nubile Savage: Has this look when wearing her Dathomirian leather dress (that Ventress gave her)
  • Powerful People Are Subs: Mira is a Jedi Master and an important figure in the third galactic civil war, but in bed she enjoys being her lovers bitch.
  • Safe, Sane, and Consensual: Both her relationships have BDSM undertones, yet are nothing but healthy and consensual.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Mira gained several perks as a Jedi, amongst others not having to go through the usual Padawan training but instead starting as a Knight because she was already well trained, later becoming a council member at a very young age, both largely because she was intended to serve as a brige between the order and the Coalition. This lead to quite a lot of resentment in the order against her, which made it easy for Hett to label her a traitor and a terrorist.
  • Take Up My Sword: To get the Khanates suport in the coming war she had to swear to one day take over Callista's role as protector of the Galaxy from Abeloth.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Tries to adopt a completly nonlethal fighting style for a while after her Heroic B So D, but eventually accepts the reality that it would make her a liability on the battlefield. Still tries her utmost to avoid casualties whenever she can.
  • True Companions: With Calia's Hapan Exiles and eventually Beth's pirates as well.
  • What Measure Is a Mook?: Somewhat uniquely in Star Wars, Mira Heroic B So D is triggered not by something personal but by learning that, alledgedly 40000 GA soldiers died on the Venator they blew up on their escape.
  • Young and in Charge: She is made a Jedi Master and admitted into the Council at age 27, even noting that she is probably the youngest member since Anakin Skywalker (who was introduced into the council at 23). And just like Anakin her appointment is in large parts politically as a representative of the Coalition, though she at least gets the title of Master as well.

Mira's Allies:

    "Red" Beth
A Pirate Girl who serves as Mira`s first opponent, but the story doesn't end there...
  • Affably Evil: She is generally polite and friendly even with supposed enemies like Mira, later drops the evil part alltogether.
  • Amazon Brigade: Her pirates appear to be all female.
  • Anti-Villain: Back when was a Pirate Leader she ruled the Stega Sector with a soft hand and allowed the population various benefits such as free acess to the thermal bath's. She also always looked out for them and her crew.
  • Badass Normal: No force powers, yet can more than hold her own in a fight.
  • Battle Couple: With Mira eventually.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Mira, especially early on.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Calia, Camilla and their Rangers during the Tof War, later with Mira during their exile in the Unkown Regions.
  • Foil: To Han Solo. Beth is like Han a relativley nonviolent charming, and flirty, criminal who runs into The Hero early on in their quest. She also claims to be a descendant of Keran Sarne, just as Han Solo is a possible descendant of the ancient Solo Kings of Corellia. They are also both flying Aces who the good guys desperately try to recruit. They also both eventually fall in love with a dark-haired force sensitive noble and become full on good guys. Both very much have a Hidden Heart of Gold that the hero finds without too much digging. Though where Han was Luke`s ally from the start, Beth is actually arrested by Mira in their first meeting. Her claim to be a descendant of Keran Sarne is also just a lie whereas Han is actually a descendant of ancient royalty. Were Han is from a core world, Beth was born deep within the Outer Rim. Han also worked for some of the largest Criminals of his Age while Beth leads her own gang independent from anyone else. Both care a lot about their respective crews though in Han`s chase that pretty much amounts to just Chewie (and whatever friends are currently with him) while Beth surrounds herself with a larger gang.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish to her sister Freya`s responsible, her Pet the Dog Moments aside Beth was ultimatley a wannabe pirate lady way in over her head, while her sister worked with the Coalition to arrest her before she could get herself killed.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Goes from a pirate leader to a staunch ally of Mira and the Coalition.
  • A Mother to Her Men: Looks out not just for her crew but the people in the Stega System as a whole, infact them being under threat by the Tof is what convinces her to join forces with the Rangers.
  • Pirate Girl: Leader of her own pirate band.
  • Starter Villain: Is the first opponent Mira faces in the first chapter of the Next Generation, and compared to the Tof and especially the Sith she is a small fly.
  • Trading Bars for Stripes: After being arrested Beth and her gang spend at most a day in prison as the Stega System is soon attacked by the Tof, causing the Coalition to offer them amnesty for their aid in the war, which the pirates accept. In fact most of them even stay with the Rangers after the Tof War due to the good pay and cameradery they build during their year of service.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Mira appeals to her good side in trying to get her to surrender without a fight. Later Beth tells Mira the same to snap her out of her Crisis of Faith.

     Camilla "Camy" Palpatine
Grandaughter of Maximillian Palpatine, rightful heir to the Galactic Empire, and one of Mira`s closest friends.

     Calia "Caly" Koan
A exiled Hapan noble and leader of a Ranger Squad.
  • The Captain: Of the Vigilance, she also serves as the overall commander of the exiled Hapans.
  • Does Not Like Men: Was raised in the traditional Hapan mindset, something she only really outgrew during her exile.
  • The Exile: Was sentenced to prison for her role in her families shemes to usurp the Hapan Throne, her sentence was commuted to exile by Queen Mother Allana Djo, something that haunts Calia to this day.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: She is at the start not very happy to team up with Beth and her pirates just accepting them due to the terrible situation in the early Tof War, but over the course of that year the Hapans and the pirates actually become friends, and many pirates even follow Calia`s squad into, supposed, exile in the Unkown Regions.
  • Foil: To Princess Leia. They are both headstrong dark-haired daughters of high noble families. Both have been groomed to take command over both soldiers and politics from an early age. Both fights to free their people from a force using monarch. Each of them dreams of one day taking over the reins of ruling and leading their nations to a better future. Both eventually fall in love with a laid back somewhat cynical brown-haired companion of theirs, having a very Slap-Slap-Kiss dynamic to their relationships. Their best friend is also a fair-haired woman who serves as their The Consigliere. Though where Leia was adopted into nobility Calia is a trueborn daughter, something she is initially very proud of her heritage. Where Leia fought for democracy from the start Calia only adopted these ideals after she had been sent into exile. Where Palpatine was a real tyrant Allana is far more ambiguous. Calia was clearly intended to be nothing more than a puppet of her parents while Leia was honestly loved by Bail and Breah Organa. Leia starts out as a heroine while Calia is an anti-hero at best at the start. Winter was Leia`s maid originally while Sonya was a fellow noble involved in the conspiracy. Leia never changes all that much over the course of the OT while Calia slowly comes to terms with the morality of her families’ actions, eventually resolving to become a true queen defending her people. Also Leia was ultimately willing to sacrifice Alderaan for the rebellion, while Calia considers protecting Hapes her top priority even after being banished.
  • Puppet Queen: What she would have become had the coup attempt been sucessfull.
  • You Will Be Spared: While most conspirators where put on trial and imprisoned after the failed coup, Allana did spare Calia and several others, including her friend Sonya, in accordance to their youth, merely exiling them. That she is only free on accords of her enemies mercy haunts Calia quite a bit.

House Kyr "Eternally Faithful"

    In General
  • Arc Words: Eternally Faithful, refering to the Houses close connection to the faith.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: To put it mildly...
  • The Fundamentalist: One of, if not the most fanatical supporters of the Pius Dea church in the past.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The family used to be one of hateful fanatics, now they are still religious but actually liberal reformists.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: They used to sit on the Quintad and were one of the most powerful Houses. But they lost control over the Militia to the Hiran family (itself a cadet branch of the Kyr) and were eventually even cast out of the nobility alltogether. Though Elena has since then restored this status they are still a minor noble family.
  • The Klan: They founded the SW version of the Klan, the Goddess's Militia after the end of the Pius Dea crusades.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Jacen Kyr is one to Nathan Bedford Forrest the founder of the Ku Klux Klan, up and including him actually becoming a (dubious) voice of reconciliation in his later years.
  • Irony: They share many traits with American WASP supremacists, yet are fancasted as Latinos.
  • The Proud Elite: House Kyr is amongst the most prideful Eriaduan noble Houses, proclaiming to have existed since before humanity first stepped into space. Which made it an great upset when they were cast out of the nobility for their percieved collaboration with the Empire.
  • The Quisling: What the other Houses accused House Kyr of being for the Empire (as Cedryc Kyr had been first a Senator in the Imperial Senate, then Delvardus Head of Government), though in large parts they were made The Scapegoat as all Houses collaborated with and profited of the Empire.

    Elena Kyr
Ulrika's best friend and Second in Command
  • Abusive Parents: Just her mother in this case, who only ever saw Elena as a Meal Ticket and never cared for her nor made a serious effort to pretend to. Only in her old age did she finally open up, somewhat, to her daughter.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Ulrika calls her Ellie.
  • All-Loving Hero: Certainly the nicest and most idealistic amongst the three main characters.
  • Amazon Chaser: Fell in love with Ulrika due to her confidence.
  • Ambadassador: Serves as the Coalitions ambassador at Jagged Fel's latest military manuever.
  • Badass Bookworm: Is the most well read of the three main characters, up and including being able to name every single Imperial Warlord and their domains from memory.
  • Bash Brothers: Briefley with Davin Fel.
  • Beware of the Nice Ones: Elena is a sweet and kind woman who always favors mercy and diplomacy, but she is also one of the best soldiers in the Galaxy.
  • Bifauxnen: Like her wife and adopted niece, and unlike her daughter, this is the look Elena goes for on formal occasions.
  • Brains and Bondage: Enjoys being dominated in bed.
  • Brains and Brawn: Forms this with Ulrika, herself being the brains, as the well read bookworm and organizer.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: She eventually writes her mother a brutal letter, calling her out for her abusive behavior. Not having done the same for her dad while he was alive is something that haunts her.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Fancasted as Briana Venskus (not a trans actress because she got a gene therapy that makes her indistinguishable from a Cis woman)
  • Covert Pervert: She is just as kinky as Ulrika, just better, and more intrested, at hiding it.
  • Daddy's Girl: Used to be close to her dad though this lessened in adulthood though she is still absolutley livid when she learns her father was murdered.
  • Delinquent Hair: She had spikey blue hair for a while. Later she went with a more conservative, short, haircut but it stayed blue.
  • Freudian Trio: The Ego, to Ulrika's Id and Ilona's Superego.
  • Friendly Sniper: Is more a long distance fighter, though she can go up close and personal too.
  • Good Parents: For all his faults Cedryc Kyr did raise a truly amazing daughter. She herself is also this to her own daughter.
  • Happily Married: Eventually with Ulrika.
  • The Infiltration: Her specialty. First together with Ulrika in the Peace Brigade, later in a top secret SJ research facility and then on Qaelan itself.
  • The Maiden Name Debate: Actually averted between her and Elena as both of them continued to keep their original last name in their marriage.
  • Iconic Sequel Character: Was only introduced in the fourth main installment but has been a mainstay ever since.
  • I Owe You My Life: She might owe Ulrika her very soul. During their time in the Peace Brigade Elena was called to participate in a massacre of unarmed prisoners of war. Ulrika pulled rank and did it instead so the blood wouldn't be on Elena's hands. Elena considers this a debt she can never repay.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Crippled a Tof slaver, who had tried to rape her, then shoved him into a pit filled with very angry slaves who tore him limb from limb.
  • The Lancer: To Ulrika, first as her liutenant, later as Co Ranger Chief. She actually was given her own command as brigader general for a while but she didn't feel comfortable with it and went back to Ulrika's side.
  • Nice Girl: Easily the nicest of the three main characters as she lacks Ulrika's bravado and Ilona's judgemental attitude.
  • Not Afraid to Die: She admits this to her therapist, that she has long since made peace with the fact that her profession might kill her one day.
  • Odd Friendship: With Asajj Ventress of all people, fighting side by side to free millions of slaves will do that. She also get's along suprisingly with Prince Davin Fel.
  • Pet Monstrosity: Her fish are highly dangerous carnivores, at least according to Ulrika. Played for Laughs when Elena threatens to feed her wife to them if she continues to not clean up after herself.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Her kindness is what causes Xela's Heel–Face Turn.
  • The Reliable One: Where Ilona and Ulrika are both more skilled but also more prone to make a mess Elena can be counted on in almost all circumstances.
  • Religious Bruiser: While all three main characters believe in the goddess to varying degrees Elena is the most pious and actually considered becoming a priest at one point.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Actually subverted, Elena was very shy as young woman, but dyeing her hair blue was actually one of her steps in growing more confident.
  • Supernaturally-Validated Trans Person: Both the Goddess and Abeloth unquestionably see Elena as a woman.
  • Survivor's Guilt: She infiltrated a SJ research facility as part of a job and is still haunted by the horrors of human experimentation she saw there. Especially her inability to do anything to help the victims.
  • Trans Tribulations: As explained in Bonnie and Bonnie, though averted as a grown woman, as Elena is comfortable with who she is.
  • White Sheep: Exaggerated amongst House Kyr who have a Dark and Troubled Past but Elena is a All-Loving Hero.

House Malek "Liberty through Equality"

    In General
  • Arc Words: Liberty through Equality, the words of the wiped out House Grant which the Malek adopted in honor of them.
  • Internal Reformist: What they aspire to be, and are in the Eriaduan, and later Coalitions, politics.
  • New Meat: They are amongst the newest noble Houses of Eriadu and thus have to struggle to gain respect amongst the nobility.

    Ilona Malek
The original main protagonist of the Verse, eventually becoming the Big Good.
  • Ace Pilot: The best pilot in her class bar none and one of the best in the ORS Fs history.
  • Ambadassador: Has this position after leaving the military but before her presidency, she takes it up again after her terms in office are over.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Totally averted, Ilona is ambitious, but also extremly idealistic and only desires power if she was elected in fair and open elections.
  • Big Good: As President of the Coalition, even after her terms in office are over she still remains highly respected as one of the nations key architects.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Due to rarely drinking alcohol she tends to get drunk quite quickly.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Fancasted as Ginnifer Goodwin
  • Daddy's Girl: Was very close to her father.
  • Expy: Shares several traits with President Tandi from Fallout. Both are dark haired daughters of elderly politicians that are intrumental in forming a idealistic republic. Both are a Damsel in Distress for the Hero to rescue at some point, and both eventually become beloved Presidents of their nations. Only difference being that Ilona was the first President of the Coalition and unlike Tandi understood the meaning of "term limit" (and thus didn't accidentially inspire the rise of a dictator).
  • Face Death with Dignity: Just silently prepares to die, holding hands with Hilda and Lena Fenton during the battle of Corellia... Before being saved by the Big Dam Heroes moment of Mira and the Khanate.
  • Freudian Trio: The Superego to Ulrika's Id and Elena's Ego.
  • Gay Best Friend: Kat is this to her.
  • Happily Married: With Tobin.
  • Holier Than Thou: Used to have this attitude which played a big part in her rivalry with Ulrika to the point of telling her that "people like her" belonged in prison for life. Eventually outgrew this and became far more symathetic to people who made bad choices.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Kat, and Ulrika, had crushes on Ilona as teenagers, but Ilona is heterosexual.
  • Internal Reformist: What she is for Eriadu alongside Florianne Idril, turning the corrupt human centrist One Nation Under Copyright into a egalitarian and open democracy. Though it is clear that while they achieved a lot many problems remain.
  • Luxury Prison Suite: Downplayed, but having once been in prison herself (after a Frame-Up) one of Ilona's priorities as President is a prison reform, improving the conditions of prisoners greatly and shifting the focus from punishment to resocialisation.
  • Missing Mom: Heavily downplayed, but she does note that her duty as the President of the Coalition often kept her away from her young son Ion.
  • Nom de Guerre: Her callsign is Princess not only summing up her Tomboy with a Girly Streak persona but also being a nice contrast to Ulrika's The Boss
  • Our Presidents Are Different:
    • President Action: Despite her high political position Ilona can still fight and kick ass.
    • President Personable: Ilona always has an ear for the problems of people, both her friends and citizens.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She used to be a no nonsense professional soldier but she also enjoys corny romance stories and also tends to wear dresses for formal occasions. Tellingly her old callsign is "Princess".
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Played with, Ilona is flattered when Laric suggests she should become the Coalitions Benevolent Dictator for his faith in her, but firmly rejects ever taking power under such circumstances.

    Adrian Firestone, nee Malek
Ilona's younger brother, star of the Dathomirian Saga, a predecessor for the main Saga. Married to Marie Firestone, daughter to the matriach of the Singing Mountain Clan on Dathomir.
  • Amazon Chaser: Falls in love with Marie, a Dathomirian Witch and The Chief's Daughter.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Ilona sometimes sees him as such.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: Actually somewhat averted as Adrian can fight but prefers diplomacy.
  • All-Loving Hero: His first interaction with his mother in law is that she kidnaps him and tries to sell him as a slave. He still reaches out to her multiple times to include her in the family. Eventually it works.
  • Bound and Gagged: Ends up like this a couple times, kind of a thing for men on Dathomir.
  • Demoted to Extra: In the Grau Verse he barely appears and Ilona rarely mentions him, justified as he lives half the Galaxy away on Dathomir.
  • Internal Reformist: Together with his wife he works to end the sexism and slavery in their tribe on Dathomir.
  • Nom de Guerre: His callsign at first is Youngblood, referncing his inexperience, later switches to Prince to compliment his sisters.
  • Odd Friendship: He actually was friends with Ulrika back when she was still Ilona's rival. Actually helped her a couple of times in pranking his older sister.
  • The One Guy: Becomes briefly a member of Ilona's squad during the Second Galactic Civil War.
  • Troll: Sometimes, mostly when his sister gets involved, like scaring her with a Rancor or dressing her in revealing Dathomirian leathers.

House Redan "To the Last Man"

    In General
  • A Lighter Shade of Grey: Compared to the Tarkins, they are proud and harsh militarists but generally more pragmatic and far less xenophobic than the Tarkin's.
  • Arc Words: To The Last Man refering to their vow to defend Eriadu to the last Man.
  • Arranged Marriage: Marica Redan, Tobin's aunt, was married to Gideon Tarkin to form an alliance between the rival houses. This makes Rivoche Tarkin Tobin's cousin. Ironically enough this ultimatley saves the Tarkins from being cast out of the nobility alltogether as the Redan allow them, under Rivoches leadership to continue existing as a Vasall House.
  • Les Collaborateurs: They fully supported the Imperial Rule over Eriadu, something they have since been working to deny.
  • The Dragon: Served as this for the Tarkins during the Imperial Rule after allying with them through an Arranged Marriage.
  • Dragon Ascendant: After the Empire falls they take over leadership in the Quintad and with that Eriadu
  • Defiant to the End: Their House motto emphazies their vow to fight to the better end.

    Arien Redan
The Greatest Hero in Eriaduan History, the main characters are often compared to him, unfavorably.
  • The Ace: Is considered this, the best General in Eriadu's history, if not beyond. Tobin, Ulrika and others are often considered less badass than him.
  • Anti-Hero: Effectivley a Type V if not for his personal bravery that, barely, makes him a type IV.
  • Anti-Magic: He owned an amulet that could nullify the Force around the wearer, an atrifact implied to come from the Celestials themselves.
  • Arch-Enemy: Mutually with Darth Zhul, a Nagai Exile turned Sith Lord who nearly conquered the entire Galactic Southwest... until he arrived on Eriadu.
  • Army of Thieves and Whores: Justified as the all the Republics best forces, including many contingents from Eriadu were batteling other Sith in the Galactic North at the time of Darth Zhul's rise, meaning Arien had only stragglers and a weak garrison in terms of forces. Forcing him to establish a conscription amongst the civilian population.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Commanded the ORSF forces during their greatest hour of darkness, and was her best soldier.
  • Badass Normal: One, if not the only person in the history of the GFFA who killed a Dark Lord of the Sith (not just some underling or apprentice) in single combat.
  • Berserk Button: Cowardice, then one of the Jedi amongst the defenders suggested a surrender, Arien send the man to Zhul saying who made such suggestions was more a Sith than Jedi.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Yes he had the amulet, protecting him against Zhul's force lighting, but the Sith Lord was a Nagai, having far greater reflexes and speed than any human. When Ulrika later fights a lesser Nagai Warlord she is utterly outclassed. And Arien did that for an entire hour.
  • Broken Ace: He actually was a harsh tyrant who even sacrificed his own children for victory. He did save the Republic, and possibly the entire Galaxy, but he wasn't a good person in the slightest.
  • Child Soldiers: He pulled in everyone over sixteen who was able into the army.
  • Cool Sword: Averted at first. Arien's blade was a simple officer sword inherited from his father. After he slew Zhul with it, it became a national treasure.
  • The Coup: Once the danger of Darth Zhul became known Arien used the ORSF to coup the Eriaduan government, taking over full control over the world and it`s colonies. He did promise to restore the civilian government once the war was over, but given he died during the siege its unclear if he was genuine.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He sacrified the Eriaduan colonies, and various other worlds in the Southwest to prepare for the coming siege. Turning the Eriaduan cities into fortresses while drilling and equipping his mostly conscripted army. He also send out rangers and scouts into the Death World of the Eriaduan wilderness to serve as a hit and run force in his enemies back. In the month he had he turned the world into a giant trap for the Sith, it was barely enough in the end.
  • Duel to the Death: With Darth Zhul at the end of the siege of Eriadu, the two of them fought each other for an entire hour before dying in a Mutual Kill.
  • Due to the Dead: Arien promised that no one who fought in the siege would be forgotten. And while he died, his successors kept his word: An entire Wing of the Basilica of the Dead (the ORSF shrine for their fallen) is reserved for the soldiers who fought in the siege of Eriadu, including all the militia conscripts, even the nonhumans. Arien's own name of course having a niche for himself, alongside his two children.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Arien did temporarily disband all Eriaduan anti nonhuman laws so he could pull them into the army as well. As he died in the siege it's unclear if he would have restored them afterwards. (His successors did)
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He despised cowards and traitors.
  • Evil Virtues: Several, Arien was extremly brave, hardworking and dedicated. He also refused any kind of special treatment for himself, feeding the same meager rations as his soldiers and refusing to have his family evacuated.
  • Expy: Takes several cues from Count Mikhael Ludendorf of Hochland from Warhammer Fantasy a long dead Badass Normal who protected his homeland at all costs against a terrible foe. Both also held a Anti-Magic Amulet and died in single combat with their nemesis.
  • The Extremist Was Right: Arien was a monster, but he saved the Galactic Republic.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Commanded many of his followers to do so, and eventually did it himself.
  • Famous Ancestor: Is Tobin's, though not directly as both of his children died during the siege and his line was continued by his nephew.
  • A Father to His Men: In incredibly dark version of this trope, Arien was extremly harsh with both his troops and his children, but also himself putting himself through the same hell as them every single day of the siege. And while he sacrified them for victory he also gave his own life for it.
  • Four-Star Badass: ORSF commander and absolute badass.
  • Frontline General: For all his faults, Arien was utterly fearless as a leader and always lead his men from the front.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: In Universe on Eriadu. Arien was a brutal tyrant to sacificed everything even his own children for the victory. Yet he is considered the worlds greatest hero, a selfless and brave example for all ORSF soldiers to live up to.
  • Inspirational Martyr: While Darth Zhul's death broke the spirit of his followers, Arien's made him a marty and inspired his soldiers to win the battle.
  • Jerkass: Was a brutal leader, who put dozens against the wall for defetism or alleged treason, refused to evacuate civilians so the soldiers fight harder and even refused to bow down to the Sith when they took his son captive. Later ordering his artillery to level an entire city, where his daughter was currently leading the defense, to eliminate the elite forces of his enemy.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While he was insanley brutal and cruel as a war leader he did save the Galaxy from Darth Zhul with barely any forces to his name. The Jedi Generals who lead the defenses of Sullust and Sluis Van with a more humane approach had the world overrun in days, leading to mass slaughter and enslavement of innocents. Arien Redan was a monster, but he was the monster the Galaxy needed in that situation.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: He condemed both of his children to die, sacrifing even them for victory. To his credit he also did the same himself at the end of the battle.
  • Long-Dead Badass: Died over a thousand years ago, and was definetly a badass.
  • Mutual Kill: With Darth Zhul, his Arch-Enemy, dying as equals in the eyes of the Force.
  • Offing the Offspring: His son was captured by the Sith early in the siege of Eriadu, and Zhul threatened to have him executed if Arien didn't surrender. Arien's only reaction was to tell his son to tie well and speak a prayer for his soul. Later on he had his artillery level an entire city where his daughter was leading the defense, because doing so also destroyed the bulk of Zhuls elite forces.
  • Pet the Dog: Had the names of everyone who fought and died in the siege of Eriadu recorded over the course of the battle, so all of them could be immortalized in the basilica of the dead after the war.
  • Posthumous Character: Died over a thousand years ago, but is often referenced by the main characters.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: With the few Jedi who had remained in the Galactic Southwest during the War. They were utterly horrified by Arien's cruel meassures, but just as determined to stop Darth Zhul.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Eriadu and the Galactic Republic.
  • War Is Glorious: How the Eriaduans see him and the siege.
  • War Is Hell: What he and the siege actually embody.
  • Worthy Opponent: Zhul recognized him as such, but Arien didn't share the sentiment.

    Tobin Malek, nee Redan
Ilona's husband and reportetly the best ORSF commander since his ancestor Arien Redan.
  • The Ace: Had this reputation already in training... leading to the disaster at Denon. Eventually grew into this for real.
  • Beware the Honest Ones: Is incapable of lying, and one of the greatest military minds of the Galaxy.
  • Brutal Honesty: Something he is known for is that he will never lie nor sugarcoat things.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Fancasted as Park Hae-soo.
  • Easily Forgiven: Once Ulrika finally appologizes for costing Tobin his eye he is quite quick to forgive her. Though it takes several more years for them to become friends.
  • Eye Scream: Ulrika accidentially took out one of his eyes during her Prank Gone Too Far back in a summer camp. Though most people think it's a battle scar.
  • Four-Star Badass: Is a general in the first stories, later get's promoted to overall ORSF commander.
  • Happily Married: With Ilona.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With his best friend Corvyn Scales.
  • It Was a Gift: As park of a Prank Gone Too Far Ulrika stole an old army cloak from his tent in a summer camp. For Tobin the cloak was his most prized posession so she chased down Ulrika and beat her up, causing her to accidentially take out one of his eyes with a stick trying to defend herself. Many years later Ulrika actually asks Tobin why he was so protective of the cloak: It was a gift from his uncle, to help him with his homesickness. He would continue to wear it on all his later military campaigns.
  • Military Brat: Was raised by his uncle on a military outpost at the edge of the Eriaduan Sphere, meaning he was introduced to the innerworkings of the military from a very young age... while at the same time lacking any real interactions with kids of his own age.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Unlike his famous ancestor Tobin is a reasonable and fair commander, always being willing to listen to other peoples advice or help them out in times of need. Infact his very first appearance (in an rpg preceeding the series) had him use his influence to protect the protagonists from the wrath of the Quintad.
  • The Quisling: The contingency plan of the Coalition involves this, should they loose the war with the GA he is to coup the government and establish a seemingly loyal puppet regime for the GA, while secretly laying the groundwork for an eventual rebellion. Given that this plan involves a good deal of lying and deception, something Tobin would usually refuse categorically, it shows how desperate the situation is.
  • Supporting Leader: He is a major Commander in the war with the Iron Alliance, and later the ORSF Commander in the Tof and Second Galactic Civil War, yet as the story mostly focusses on the Grau Family and the Rangers most of his military campaigns happen offscreen.
  • Took the Wife's Name: He took Ilona's as he joined House Malek.

The Goddess's Militia:

    In General
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even the Militia thought the destruction of Alderaan went too far.
  • The Fundamentalist: They follow a strict and hateful interpretation of the Pius Dea religion.
  • The Klan: They are essentially the KKK in space, though mostly take after the Second Klan in being a political movement rather than a terrorist organisation.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: To the Greyshirts, both are violent and horrible hate groups, yet the Greyshirts lack the positive aspects of the Militia such as their loyality to the nation and the support for the human community.
  • Neighborhood-Friendly Gangsters: A very dark version of the trope, but the militia does protect and support Eriadu's human lower classes, protecting them from crime, as in they lynch everyone who hurts them, and investing money in various social programs. Much of this of course being Pragmatic Villainy.
  • Truth in Television: The Militia not getting along with the Empire, and later supporting the Coalition against the Sith once again, mirrors the KKK ultimatley remaining loyal to the USA during WW2, despite on the surface having a lot of common ground with the Nazis.

    Betsy Hiran
The current Grand Magus of the Militia and an old enemy of Ulrika and Elena
  • Affably Evil: Is almost always utterly polite and friendly, even when dealing with people who hate her and non humans.
  • Ambiguously Evil: More Ambigiously HOW evil. It is clear that Betsy is by no means a good person, but she is a genuinley helpfull ally for the Coalition and so far hasn't actually expressed any bigotted opinions herself or comitted, or even ordered, any crimes in the story.
  • Anti-Hero: The only thing making her heroic is being on the side of the protagonists.
  • Defiant to the End: When captured by teenage Ulrika and Elena Betsy showed no fear and instead continued to insult them at every turn. (Though of course neither of the two teens had the intention of actually murdering her).
  • Easily Forgiven: She doesn't seem to hold Elena and Ulrika knocking her out and robbing her against them in the present day.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Basically no one in the Coalitions leadership can stand her and she is only tolerated as an ally against the Sith.
  • Manipulative Bastard: How several characters interpred her loyality to the Coalition.
  • Pet the Dog: She did send the Militia out to stop the rioting Greyshirts.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: For her part she seems pretty open about working with the good girls, they understandably don‘t feel the same way. Ulrika even remarks how much easier things were when Hiran was still their enemy.
  • Token Evil Team Mate: For the Coalitions leadership, alongside Elia Kane.
  • Vice President Who?: Played With, she is the Coalitions Vice President which gives her little actual power… but still gives her a position close to it.

Beyond Eriadu:

Founders of the Coalition:

     Victor Laric
An Imperial Captain who Ulrika allies with early on during the war with the Iron Alliance.
  • Anti-Hero: He fights to defend civilians and opposes the Iron Alliance, but is rather ruthless about it.
  • Child Soldiers: Was drafted into the Imperial Army at fifteen, then spend the next four decades on the frontlines.
  • Last-Name Basis: Everyone generally calls him Laric instead of Victor.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Maximillian Palpatine who he considers the rightful heir to the Empire.

     Maximillian Palpatine
Cousin of the Emperor and Regent of the Imperial Remnant faction in the Southwest.
  • Internal Reformist: He actually was this from the start, using what influence he had in the Empire to lessen the evil of his cousin. In his remnant faction he rolled back many of the oppresive laws of the Empire. To the point gladly integrating it into the democratic Coalition.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He is fully willing to ally with the Coalition and support Ulrika when she gets under fire.

     Hilda Jerec
A Sex Slave of the Senex Juvex Sector turned Rebel Leader.
  • Anti-Hero: She is a heroine fighting against slavers and freeing slaves, but she is willing to use brutal tactics and believes in Pay Evil unto Evil, eventually outgrows this alltogether and becomes a straight up heroine.
  • Best Friend: Cassandra was this to her when they were little girls, though Cass managed to escape the slavers who destroyed their village and they wouldn't see each other again until many years later.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Eventually becomes Ilona Malek's personal bodyguard, and as shown during the battle for Corellia Ilona can still more than hold her own.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Her conflict with Ilona about her selling captured slavers into slavery. Ulrika and the others aknowledge that Hilda certainly has every right to hate the slavers and pay them back for the suffering she went through, but they also note that the Coalition strives to be better than their enemies.
  • Celibate Hero: Even decades after being freed from enslavement Hilda feels nothing but revulsion when it comes to any kind of physical intimacy, meaning her relationship with Xela is a pure emotional one, where she even needs to sleep her in her own bed and her own room to feel safe at night.
  • The Dreaded: Eventually became this to the Senex Juvex Sector due to her raids.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Refuses to flee or surrender during the battle of Corellia and just calmly holds hands with Ilona awaiting her death without fear before being safed by last minute arrival of the Mira and the Khanate.
  • Forgiveness: Despite having every reason to hate slavers Hilda is eventually able to forgive Xela for having been one and to overcome her zealous hatred and accepting that people can change. This also helps her to find some amount of healing and peace over her past trauma.
  • I Owe You My Life: While Hilda and her followers came up with a plan to escape on their own they needed the help of an outside for it, something Ulrika provided, and went beyond when they also allowed the slaves to steal a Eriaduan warship. Leading to Hilda having nothing but respect and gratitude for the Eriaduan colonel when they meet again years later.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Used to be a firm believer in this as she would sell captured slavers into slavery themselves. Something Ilona called her out for.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Due to her traumatic experiences Hilda reacts with revulsion to any kind of physical contact, so moment when she enganges in it, when hugging Ulrika after seeing her again, when dragging Xela down with her into cover, holding Ilona's hand when they face their deaths during the battle of Corellia, show the close bond she, eventually, formed with all three women.
  • Odd Friendship: With Xela, the daughter of a slaver. Hilda understandably hating Xela and barely being able to restrain herself from attacking her several times, culminating in her giving Xela a brutal "Reason You Suck" Speech that utterly destroys the young woman's walls of denial, but also turns her into The Atoner. Afterwards they fight in the battle of Qaelan side by side, saving each others lives and slowly beginning to form a friendship, a friendship that during the two decade timeskip even blossomed into a close emotional relationship.
    • After the timeskip she also grew close to Ilona, serving as her personal bodyguard and companion.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Sold captured slavers into slavery herself.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Unlike other SW media the story doesn't shy away from the horrific implication of slave systems in the GFFA.
  • Rebel Leader: She formed a group of rebellious slaves around herself in the Senex Juvex sector who eventually managed to escape, with some aid from Ulrika.
  • Sex Slave: An underage sex slave at that.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Embodies and believes this both in universe and out.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Her colony was destroyed when she was ten years old and she was abducted by Tof raiders, having to witness the dead bodies of her parents, followed by seeing her sister be raped and abused by their captors driving her to slit her wrists. Spending the next six years as a teenage sex slave in the Senex Juvex Sector before finally managing to escape. Then later most of her fellow escapees are killed in the war against the Iron Alliance.
  • Young and in Charge: Became the leader of a group of rebellious slaves at age sixteen.

The Iron Alliance

    In General
  • Army of Thieves and Whores: Their soldiers are pirates and raiders first which means they are often lacking when it comes to fighting professional soldiers. Averted though with several of their mercenary companies who are the toughest fighters they have to offer.
  • Big Bad: As a nation they serve as the primary antagonist for the first generation.
  • Decapitated Army: Averted at first as it`s mentioned there have been several Iron Lords or Ladies in the past, which is why the Eriaduans aim to not only kill the Iron Lord but also his most prowerful vassals to ensure no one can fill the void once he dies.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: While many of the Iron Alliances leaders were arrested for their crimes after their defeat the Coalition went to great efforts to integrate and resocialize it`s general populous into the new nation. By the time of the newer generation this has largley been paying off to the point that Creon Damask, a the lesser son of one of the Alliance leading families was elected Chancelor of the Coalition. And even some of their leaders become upstanding citizens after being released from prison as seen with Xora.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Somewhat, most of the Iron Alliance leadership and aristocracy is made up of various species, and several of the leaders are women. Yet they do discriminate against humans, with Keran Sarne being the only one they tolerated amongst their leadership.
  • Fallen Hero: Some of their leaders were CIS commanders who continued fighting the Empire after the end of the Clone Wars, eventually being driven to piracy by desperation and cycism.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: To an extend of the Barbary State Corsairs, as a pirate nation focused primarily on slavery. Also like the Barbary Corsairs were backed by the Ottoman Empire the Iron Alliance is backed by the Senex Juvex Sector.
  • Freudian Excuse: Many of them suffered greatly under the Empire before taking over the Southwest, which explains but certainly not excuses the brutality they reserve for humans.
  • Might Makes Right: They don't bother trying to justify their slavery with honeyed words, they are strong, the slaves are weak, which is why they have to serve.
  • Out of Focus: Their official captial world of Koan, as most of the action focusses on Qaelan (the former Imperial Regional Capital that houses the largest slave population). In the end the Coalition takes it without a fight after the Alliance is broken at Qaelan.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: Their main MO, though they also turned various worlds into tributaries.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: The story doesn't shy away from talking about the horrors of sexual slavery.
  • The Remnant: Most of the are ex CIS soldiers and commanders with various indivduals from other factions also joining them.
  • Slave Liberation: The Eriaduans officially make this their reason for going to war, also allying with local rebel groups like Hilda's in the fight. Eventually Elena infiltrates Qaelan to help jumpstart a massive uprising.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: They controlled the third largest slave Empire in the Galaxy, after the Huttspace and their backers in the Senex Juvex Sector.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Some of them started out as Imperial Slaves who overthrew their slave masters only to in turn enslave the humans in the Southwest. Others were greedy jerks to begin with.
    The Iron Lord
The final leader of the Iron Alliance
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: How he became the leader of a bunch of pirates and warlords. He proves his skill when it takes an entire ORSF Squad to take him down.
  • Big Bad: Of the first generation.
  • Mutual Kill: Corvyn Scales takes him down... at the cost of his own life and his squad.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: He is a Neimodian yet displayes none of the cowardice his species is known for, on the contrary he is one of the strongest non force using characters in the story.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Ulike many of his subordinates he takes the Eriaduan threat seriously and also resolves to permanently deal with the Liberation Front and Imperial Remnants in the Region.
  • Straight Edge Evil: Kinga even notes how he displays none of the decadence of his subordinates, instead just wearing parctical combat armor wherever he goes... something which ends up saving his life, for a while.
    Creon Damask
The younger Scion of one of the Iron Alliances leading families, become a major collaboator to the Coalition after the Liberation of Qaelan.
  • Ambiguously Evil: The Coalition leadership is intitally quite vary of him as they are unsure wether he actually wants to help them or if he is secretly still loyal to the old regime his family profited from. His family relationship to a Sith Lord didn't help matters... Turns out he truly is loyal to the Coalition.
  • Les Collaborateurs: Heroic variant, he is a minor member of the defeated slave aristocracy assistingthe abolitionists.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: It`s unclear if he has any idea that Hego Damask was Darth Plagueis.
  • Immigrant Patriotism: He, and by extension his family fully embrace the Eriaduan ways, converting to the faith of the goddess and joining the Eriaduan nobility.
  • Nice Guy: Suprisingly enough, to the point that even Lissa Freechild (the leader of the freed slaves) finds herself unable to hate him.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: Basically becomes this to Elena while she serves as the military governor of Qaelan, though he does more than just praise her and is very useful to the cause.
  • The Quisling: Heroic variant, he collaborates with the Coalition to help them dismantle the slavery system on Qaelan.
    Xora Xuj
A minor Falleen slavetrader and pirate in service of the Alliance.
  • Abusive Parents: Was emotionally abusive towards Xela, it`s telling that they only really build a real relationship when Xora begins her Heel–Face Turn after several years in prison.
  • Dark Action Girl: Was able to overpower Ulrika in a fistfight.
  • Heel–Face Turn: A gradual one during the nearly three decades she spends in prison. By the time she is finally released she not only made ammends with her daughter but also takes a completly normal job as a chef at a restaurant.
  • Karma Houdini: Escapes justice at the end of Shadow over Curean and manages to ellude Eriaduan authorities for another eighteen months before being caught.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: After being captured the good guys keep her around while they search for Ulrika's enslaved squadmates, though she is send to a proper prison afterwards.
  • Starter Villain: Technically the Duchess is the main villainess of the first stroy, but Xora is introduced before her, then taking center stage in the second.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Goes from a power hungry pirate and slaver to a enthusiastic aspiring chef in her twenty eight years in prison.
    Xora Xuj
Xela's young daughter at first introduced as a minor antagonist she goes through quite a lot of Character Development.
  • Action Survivor: Survives both the attempted assassination of the Iron Lord as well as the battle of Qaelan despite having only a few basic combat skills.
  • The Atoner: Becomes this after her Heel Realization, risking her life multiple times during the battle of Qaelan and working hard to help out the good girls afterwards.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Delivered quite a powerful "Reason You Suck" Speech to her mother when she first visited her in prison. Actually helped Xora with her own Heel–Face Turn.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Elena's squad in general and Hilda especially.
  • Happily Married: She and Hilda effectivley become a married couple during the timeskip, though their relationship is purely emotional.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Goes from a slavers daughter who only helps the good girls because they captured her mother to a heroine fighting for a better future and after the war voice of reconciliation and peace between former slaves and slavers.
  • Heel Realization: A brutal one when Hilda relays he realtities of her life as a Sex Slave to her, utterly breaking Xela's walls of denial about slavery.
  • Karma Houdini: Considers herself one as she ultimatley never recieved outright punishment for her evil deeds, though she eventually makes peace with it.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Hilda destroys her walls of denial about the horrors of slavery she realizes that she was a monster, which nearly broke her, though instead Elena suggested her becoming The Atoner which is what she does.
  • Odd Friendship: With Hilda, a former slave. Naturally they start the story loathing each other but eventually overcome their differences and become friends, then even more after the timeskip.
  • Paid Harem: What her "relationship" with Jace basically amounted to, he pretened to love her so she would give him and his sisters various perks. Though Xela did believe he genuinley loved her and is heartbroken to find out the truth.
  • Pet the Dog: She did treat her household slaves with kindness, making a point at never abusing them. However see Wants a Prize for Basic Decency
  • Wants a Prize for Basic Decency: Tried to argue she isn't a bad person because she didn't abuse her personal slaves... Hilda quickly sets her head straight.

The Senex Juvex Sector

    In General
  • All There in the Manual: Most of their lore and background was compiled by the author in a lore article on the Jedi Council Forums.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Deconstructed Trope, the Coalition eventually integrates the SJ peacefully, at the cost of pardoning their entire upper class, many of which now gained positions within the Coalition causing quite a lot of friction and controversy.
  • Easily Forgiven: In exchange for a peacful surrender of the SJ the Coalition had to universally pardon every member of it`s slaver aristocracy, which understandably upset many people.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: The Young Families don't care for you species, gender or whatever, they only care about strengh.
  • Evil vs. Evil: What the conflict between the Old and New Families boils down to. The Old families are elitist human supremacists who believe the only fate for nonhumans is slavery, the New Families meanwhile are brutal The Social Darwinist type who believe it is simply the right of the strong to enslave the weak.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Some of their lore evokes Haiti under the French, up and including that over time nonhumans managed to raise to become slavers themselves, just as Haiti eventually had a sizable amount of black and mixed race slavers. Also some of their resistance groups take some elements of the maroons. Their support for the pirate slavers of the Iron Alliance also brings to mind the Ottoman Empires support for the Barbary Corsairs.
  • "Get Out of Jail Free" Card: When it became clear that their system was on the brink of total collapse the leading families of the SJ made a deal with the Coalition, ending slavery and peacefully stepping down from power avoiding a long a brutal civil war, in exchange for universal immunity for any crimes comitted under the regime.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: For the first Generation, being the power behind the Iron Alliance.
  • Karma Houdini: Downplayed with their elites, as they loose their slaves and their political system is dismantled and their crimes revealed to their population. Yet in exchange for peacefully giving up power they did escape any legal prosecution and managed to retain their monetary wealth.
  • Might Makes Right: What the Young Families believe
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: The story doesn't shy away from talking about the horrors of sexual slavery.
  • Slave Liberation: What various resistance groups, eventually with the support of the Coalition, fight for, eventually forcing the complete abolition.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: They controlled the second largest slave Empire in the Galaxy, after the Huttspace.

    Francesco De Comte
A Ace Pilot and war hero of the Senex Juvex Sector, and an old friend of Tobin and Elena
  • Ace Pilot: He has an almost absurd number of confirmed kills... tragically deconstructed as most of these kills where shooting down desperate slave rebels who barely now how not to crash the captured ships during an uprising.
  • The Exile: He and Eryl eventually have to flee the Senex Juvex Sector after another crackdown, however they eventually return and help with the sectors transition to democracy.
  • Expy: Shares several traits with Dorian Pavus from Dragon Age: Inquisition in that both are otherwise decent members of the aristocracy of an evil slaver empire who end up allying with the protagonists against a common enemy and eventually resolve to fight in injustices in their homelands by becoming an Internal Reformist. Francesco's physical describtion also somewhat resembles Dorian's, though unlike the Tevinter Mage Francesco is a Badass Normal and also heterosexual.
  • Happily Married: To Eryl.
  • Internal Reformist: What he becomes in the Senex Juvex Sector after the Vong War, using his political influence to fight the slavery as part of the small legal opposittion, while also giving secret aid to rebel groups and smuggling slaves out.
  • Noble Bigot: At the start he actually somewhat defends slavery, in a White Man's Burden, sort of way, bringing him into conflict with the Eriaduan soldiers during the Vong War. At the same time he also, without flinching gives away his spot in an evacuation shuttle to a poor refugee family from Coruscant, showing his willingness to give his life even for people he never knew. Eventually he stops being a bigot alltogether.
  • True Companions: With Tobin and his squad, as well as Elena.
  • War Hero: Is one of the greatest of the SJ, due to his "heroics" in putting down a slave uprising, as well as his genuine heroics during the Vong War.

    Eryl De Comte nee Besa
A former Jedi Knight and racing Champion, see her entry in Star Wars – New Jedi Order and Legacy Eras: Jedi Order for details on her canon appearances.
  • Ace Pilot: Even better than her husband due to her connection with the force.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: In her Legends appearance she was clearly established as heterosexual, while here she mentions having had relationships with both men and women.
  • Amicable Exes: Played for Laughs with Raynar as their "relationship" lasted for a grand total of five minutes of making out on route to Mykr, something they to think back to when they reunite to Eriadu many decades afterwards. Still they are friendly enough to go dancing together.
  • Ascended Extra: Eryl only appeared in one Legends novel as Mauve Shirt, though became kind of an Ensemble Dark Horse in her own right. The Grau Verse brings her back and features her more prominently.
  • Badass Teacher: She eventually forms a group of Force using Rangers for the Coalition, which she jokingly calls "her own Jedi Order".
  • Beyond the Impossible: Her surviving having a razor bug hit her face. Erly muses she must have used the dark side to anchor herself to her mangled body to survive.
  • Body Horror: Her body is incredibly mangled by the ordeal above Mykr, worst of all her face is described as a ruin. Eventually she does manage to restore her body due to a gene therapy on Arkanis, though she does keep a scar across her face.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Once she actually regains her hair she returns to her old haircut.
  • Character Exaggeration: Downplayed but in Legends Eryl did seduce and makeout with Raynar just days after his girlfriend/crush Lusa had died. The Grau verse builds on this by having Eryl be something of a slut within the New Jedi Order, albeit an ethical one.
  • The Chosen One: Twisted example, due to having survived a normally deadly wound the Vong Commander who found Eryls mangled body became utterly obsessed with her, considering her an avatar of the Lover Goddess Yun-Q'aah, and himself as her counterpart.
  • Daddy's Girl: Has a close relationship with her father, to the point of him being the only one she reveals her survival to.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Still does this now and then.
  • Dude Magnet: Was this in the New Jedi Order and beyond, in combination with Even Girls Want Her, having had several "conquests" before briefly hooking up with Raynar on route to Mykr. Even her face getting torn appart doesn't completly stop this as Francesco can attest.
  • Ethical Slut: She used to sleep around a lot in the Jedi Order and beyond, even seducing people in relationships just for the heck of it, something she doesn't even fully drop after getting Happily Married. Yet despite this Eryl is fundamentally a good and kind person.
  • Faking the Dead: More not reporting the survival, but after the Vong War Eryl only reveals to her father that she is still alive. Justified as she intends to move to the Senex Juvex Sector alongside Francesco, which she couldn't do as a Jedi.
  • Happily Married: To Francesco.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Discussed Trope, after her body get's mangled Eryl wonders if this is karma for her infidelity and lust, though she quickly get's over it.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother died when she was very young and Eryl was raised soley by her father.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: An acomplished and skillfull female racing champion.
  • Slave Liberation: Follows Francesco to the SJ to do exactly that, using her fathers contacts to space truckers and smugglers to help get slaves out.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In the Grau verse she survived the Razor bug cutting her face appart, in part due to calling upon the dark side in a desperate desire to stay alive, then being found by a Vong commander before the Voxyn that dragged her away could eat her.
  • True Companions: With Tobins and Francesco's Squads, the refugees they protected and eventually Elena.
