Coven Heads

Current Heads

    Terra Snapdragon

Terra Snapdragon

The Head of the Plant Coven. She's later revealed to be the Producer, the leader and recruiter of the Tarot Guild who traffic witches across the Isles.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She makes her first appearance between the events of "Through the Looking Glass Ruins" and "Hunting Palismen", her debut episode.
  • Adaptational Karma: In canon, Terra's fate is left ambiguous following Belos' demise. Here, her soul gets devoured by Belos as punishment for her crimes.
  • Adaptational Villainy: As the Producer, there's no doubt that she's more evil than in canon. She becomes a Greater-Scope Villain as a result of the range of her crimes.
  • The Alliance: Chapter 125: "The Last Stand" ends with The Reveal that Terra's been working with the Inner Demon since the creation of the Coven System, and they intend to end all life on the Boiling Isles so Belos can't kill Terra with the Draining Spell.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Somehow she's been able to avoid being exposed as the Producer by Belos, a contrast to how he easily figured out Raine was a rebel. This makes her a much bigger problem than expected even if nobody knows the truth.
  • Arc Villainess: Serves as this for the "Tarot Guild" arc, where she begins to push forward her plans to conquer the Boiling Isles with the help of the Inner Demon.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's Obviously Evil, but not everyone can notice it if they're distraught, or don't know that she and the Producer are the same person. When she and Craig took in Emily, she acted sympathetic to her predicament. When Adrian voiced his shame for his hand in Emily's suffering, Terra cackles in her mind while comforting him.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: She tries to use this in Chapter 127: "The Roots of Evil". Terra believes Belos won't off her for her treachery, stating he still needs her as one of the nine Coven Heads for the Day of Unity. Unfortunately for her, Belos states he's already scoping out a potential candidate (Willow) to replace her, so he goes through with ending her wretched life.
  • Card-Carrying Villain
  • Child Hater: Has a strong dislike towards the youth, going as far as attempting to kill Luz despite Belos' orders that no harm come to her.
  • Death by Adaptation: Rather than living beyond the Day of Unity, Terra is murdered by Belos when it's right around the corner for her treason against the Boiling Isles and the Demon Realm as a whole.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: She's the most obviously evil and sadistic of the Coven Heads, and many people point it out after just one encounter with her.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Once Belos has her cornered, Terra is pinned to the ground as Belos feeds on her soul, turning her body to ash.
  • Foreshadowing: Hints that she and the Inner Demon are working together.
    • The Inner Demon has been preying on Glandus' students, and she bet on Glandus High to win the Glandus War.
    • When Calypso showed the head witches that the Forest of Fear mist is spreading, Terra is not interested in doing anything about it, and then suggests that she try to control the forest.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Seeing as she's the real leader of the Tarot Guild and the one who recruited Emily Tricks, she's clearly got some major pull in the Isles' criminal underground.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Terra has been behind every crime Glandus, the Tarot Guild, and Emily committed since before the series began, not to mention murdering Vina Charmspell, Lilith's predecessor. Beel Zatar, whose father she murdered when he was a child, exposes her crimes as she kills him. Later, she's overpowered by Willow in a battle where she's using the Galdorstones before Belos kills her for her behind-the-scenes actions.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In Chapter 76: "A Coven Day Disaster", Terra digs herself into a hole by acting unsympathetic to the missing children (that she has been having kidnapped and trafficked) and ranting about how stupid they are and trying to kill Luz. Her rant is recorded by Summer and posted on Penstagram thus damaging her image, embarrassing her coven, and making the Emperor's Coven look more unreliable, Luz burns the right side of her face, and Abel tells her that Belos isn't pleased with her while praising Calypso for containing the riot Terra started and helping save the crowd from the Grim Goblin.
  • The Leader: As the Producer, she runs the Tarot Guild from the shadows, using Grimmhammer II as a scapegoat.
  • Mole in Charge: She's the Head Witch of the Plant Coven and the leader of a mass-trafficking operation run by the oldest criminal organization on the Boiling Isles.
  • Stronger Than You Look: She looks like a bony old broad, but she has an unexpected strength from killing with her bare hands, as Willow found out while fighting her in Chapter 127.
  • Wicked Witch: She embodies this as she firmly believes witchkind was always meant to be this.

    Adrian Graye

Adrian Graye Vernworth

The Head of the Illusion Coven.

  • Abusive Parent: The fact that he's Emily's true father makes him this after he attacks her for bringing up his past in the original Shadowy Secret Exposers.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Gets his first speaking role during the events of "Eda's Requiem".
  • Blackmail: "Chapter 98: Rings of Fire" reveals that he's been having Cross Drakescale act as the Golden Guard alongside Emily by threatening his family.
  • Hidden Depths: His involvement with the Shadowy Secret Exposers shows that he once had a knack for mystery solving.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Chapter 133 shows he was the one who had Emily's parents killed and altered their arrest records so word wouldn't get out that he fathered an illegitimate child. This bites him in the tail when the ghost of Archibald Corduroy reveals it to the students, faculty, and scouts in Hexside's gym including Emily, who proceeds to make him experience all of her suffering growing up before beating up so badly, he was left catatonic.
  • Knew It All Along: Chapter 120 reveals that Adrian knows Belos used to be Philip Clawthorne, having had an implied romance with his previous grimwalker Artemis, who was a clone of his adopted sister Marilyn.
  • The Mentor: He becomes this to Emily Tricks at the end of the "Glandus War" Arc, seeing her potential and having wanted an apprentice for some time.

    Hettie Cutburn

Hettie Killington Cutburn

The Head of the Healing Coven.

  • Broken Pedestal: Donna used to look up to her until she saw how apathetic Hettie was during the IFWOT, seeing her as further proof of how corrupted the Coven System is.
  • Named by the Adaptation: A variation. She was given a name in the story before her canon name was announced. When this occurred, her chosen name became her middle name, the reverse of Vitimir (Weevil) and Masun (Ulrich).
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Her name alone is enough proof that she's a very big threat, especially when she nearly strikes Kyle with a knife just for interrupting her at the IFWOT.

    Weevil Vitimir

Weevil Vitimir Breathton

The Head of the Potions Coven.

  • Adaptation Name Change: He retains his canon name but since it was revealed after he was named here, "Vitimir" becomes his middle name.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Prone to this, especially at Terra's expense.
  • Middle Name Basis: Once his names were combined, he's slowly referred to as "Vitimir" overtime.
  • Mirror Character: To Nicole Hieron, as both are potionists who never accept responsibility for their actions and always shift the blame to other people.
  • Never My Fault: As previously stated, Vitimir just can't take responsibility for his actions. When Luz broke Megan out of Hieron Labs and set all the basilisk corpses on fire, his response was to take Ruby's suggestion and blame Nicole since she attacked him and he could save face rather than admit he got played by a teenager. When he accidentally melted off Sarah's skin with a potion (not knowing it was artificial), his response was to get all the surrounding scouts to say it was out of self-defense.

    Osran Pawculus

Osran Pawculus

The Head of the Oracle Coven. He was Delara's aide prior to her death, and became her successor.

  • Hate Sink: Decrepit old fart racked this up fast, and for good reason; once Terra was out of the picture, he became more hated In-Universe for his crimes, such as allowing several scouts to be killed after seeing a future where only Steve survived, selling out Delara to Belos so he could take her place, marking up prices so people who needed mental treatment at the Oracle Institute couldn't afford it, and branding a majority of the students at Merlin Meadows.
  • Karma Houdini: As of Chapter 134, he has yet to pay for any of his crimes as a whole.
  • Kick the Dog: Happens in Chapter 132: "Hey! Scouts! Leave Those Kids Alone! Part 1". He destroys Zee's oracle amulet, the one that belonged to her late birth mother, right in front of her without a hint of remorse before talking down on her for mixing magic and insulting her mother. After capturing Zee, he tortures her before branding her with a sigil and having her sent to the castle as a prisoner.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Minor as it was, he does pay a little bit in Chapter 132, where Zee leaves a severe slash mark on his face for having the nerve to insult her birth mother.
  • Last-Name Basis: There are times where he's called by his last name.
  • Named by the Adaptation: His surname was initially his name here. After his real name was revealed, it fell into this.

    Ulrich M. Hammers

Ulrich Mason Hammers

The Head of the Construction Coven.

  • Adaptation Name Change: He's known as Mason in the parent work, which becomes his middle name as a result of being named in LC before his canon name was revealed.
  • Oh, Crap!: In Chapter 111: "So IFWOT?", Lilith tells him that Belos was once human and a member of the Clawthorne family, and the normally calm coven head panics upon learning the news and the consequences just knowing this information could have on him and his family.
  • Token Good Teammate: After Raine, Darius, and Eberwolf are replaced and Alador & Calypso are deemed untrustworthy due to the possibility that they're being brainwashed by Terra, the BAT's decide that he's the least selfish according to Lilith. This is what leads to Lilith attempting to sway Ulrich into turning against Belos.

    Napoli McGrady III

Napoli McGrady III

The Head of the Bard Coven, succeeding Scooter Crane and Raine Whispers after the former died and the latter disappeared.

    Alador Blight

Alador Blight

The Blight siblings' intelligent but absent-minded and inattentive father. After Darius is believed to be dead, he is chosen as the new Head of the Abomination Coven.

  • Adaptational Badass: Alador is already known as a badass given his inventive and combat skills, but he becomes the new Coven Head since he's the most powerful witch after Darius.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Alador makes his debut here in "Blighted by the Light", which adapts "Adventures in the Elements".
  • Ascended Extra: He plays a much larger role here, as he becomes aware of his distance with his children faster before becoming Head Witch of the Abomination coven after Darius is seemingly killed in action.
  • Hidden Depths: He was neglected by his own parents in his youth as they failed to understand his needs, which is why he strives to give his children more attention.
  • Papa Wolf: The whole reason he becomes the new Head Witch of the Abomination Coven is because he's trying to gain amnesty for Amity after she saves the Clawthornes at the petrification ceremony and is declared a public enemy as a result.

    Calypso Brooke

Calypso Brooke

Skara's mother and a member of the Beast-Keeping Coven. After Eberwolf is somehow left catatonic, she is chosen as their replacement for the Head of the Beast-Keeping Coven.

  • Ascended Extra: After spending a great deal of Book 1 a drunk mess, she starts getting more prominence in Book 2, especially after becoming a Coven Head.
  • The Beastmaster: As a member of the Beast Keeping coven, she commands many kinds of beasts to aide her when needed.
  • Parental Substitute:
    • She and her husband are starting to serve as such for Nina after she begin looking after her as part of her parole, and it later becomes clear Nina's parents will do anything to avoid acting as such to her.
    • She's also taking care of her niece Scabrina for her sister Scandalyn, with Scabrina seeing Calypso as her mother.
  • Retired Badass: She was once know as the "Red Hood Huntress", a cut-throat Beast-Keeper who worked as a bounty hunter. Eventually, she put that behind her and decided to start a family.
  • That Man Is Dead: She refuses to acknowledge her past as a "Woodemon" because of how her parents treated her and her sister Scandalyn.

Former Heads

    Raine Whispers

Raine Whispers

An old friend and non-binary ex of Eda, they secretly lead B.A.T.T. (Bards Against The Throne). In Book 2, Raine succeeds Scooter Crane as head of the Bard Coven.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: They debut in what would be canon mid-Season 1 here.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Raine's early debut leads to them meeting Luz faster, and they help her with both her love life and overcoming her Loss of Identity in Book 2.
  • Ascended Extra: Their early debut allows them to appear more often in prominent roles.
  • Badass in Distress: In "The Ballad of Eda (Part 2)", they became a prisoner to the Inner Demon and the Shapeshifter. They were eventually found by Kitsuni and brought to the Owl House to recover in "Chapter 76: A Coven Day Disaster".
  • But Now I Must Go: In "Chapter 95: The Grim Goblin Strikes", Raine leaves the Owl House with Star once they've got enough strength both to start a new rebel group and because of how risky it is to stay there now that Eda's a famous, law-abiding citizen to the public.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Downplayed. Raine spends a large majority of their time in the "Human Realm" arc recovering in the Owl House after being rescued by Kitsuni. They continue to do so for the first few chapters of the following arc before leaving to rebuild their rebellion.
  • Parental Substitute: Raine appears to have become one to Star, teaching her about the Isles before leaving with her to rebuild their rebellion together.

    Darius Nightshade

Darius Nightshade

The head of the Abomination Coven, he's been rivals with Alador Blight since their days in Hexside.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: He debuts through a flashback during the events of "Really Small Problems" instead of in "Hunting Palismen" a season later.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Even after his canon surname Deamonne was confirmed, he's known as "Nightshade" in the LC-verse.
  • Amicable Exes: Zig-zagged. He and his ex-wife Sheila Anidod weren't on good terms following the divorce due to his duties making him miss out on Gavin's childhood, yet it isn't clear how he feels about Sheila herself.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: In "The Ballad of Eda, Part 2", he is seemingly killed off-screen by the Shapeshifter.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He has two appearances via flashback in Book 1 before appearing in present day in Chapter 51.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: When he was supposedly murdered, Adrian found abomination matter and blood all around the scene of the crime which belonged to his Super Mode.
  • Pet the Dog: Several.
    • In "A Surprising Visitor" he agrees to help Alador work on a cure for his mutated siblings, despite their previous rivalry.
    • In "Socket to Me" he chooses to ignore Luz and Amity when he sees them attending an orchestra, pretending he didn't see them and letting them continue enjoying their date.
    • In "Deserve Nothing" he is willing to talk to Hunter about his father, the original Golden Guard and shows concern for his mental health.
  • Related in the Adaptation: "Prelude to War, Part 1" reveals that he's Gavin's father, a connection exclusive to the story.

    Eberwolf

Eberwolf

The Head of the Beast Keeping Coven who's put out of commission and temporarily replaced by Calypso Brooke.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: They make their debut in between the story's versions of "Echoes of the Past" and "Keeping Up A-fear-ances".
  • Put on a Bus: After "The Ballad of Eda: Part 2", Eber is left in a catatonic state following Darius' death, forcing Belos to temporarily replace them with a new Head Witch.

    Olive Slick

Olive Slick

Darius' predecessor, the former head of the Abomination Coven.

  • Ambiguous Situation: "Chapter 92: The Gold Hexperience" shows a mural depicting him as sickly dressed, bringing up the question of whether he had some kind of condition.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Olive is typically a female name.
  • Gender Reveal: Wasn't revealed to be male until "The Gold Hexperience".
  • The Ghost: He's only been mentioned, as he's dead by present day. He does appear on a banner in Chapter 92.

    Delara Saltstar

Delara Saltstar

The previous Oracle Head. She was also the mother of Boscha's cousins Simon, Cain, and Beck and the wife of Samwitch. Her death and her ideals inspired Boscha's brother Boris to join the Bards Against the Throne in her memory.

  • Greater-Scope Paragon: She inspired Lindsay's beliefs in kindness and forgiveness after helping her learn to control her anger, and Madstream. It later turns out that Delara was the reason Darius and Eberwolf would turn on Belos, warning them of her visions. They only turned against the throne following her death, but they never forgot her warnings.
  • Missing Mom: She died years ago at the hands of Belos and the Horned King, who murdered her for showing doubt in Belos' goals.
  • Pet the Dog: She was a spokewoman for wild witches, demanding they be treated fairly.
  • Posthumous Character: She's already dead by the time we learn about her.

    Apollus

  • Connected All Along:
    • "Chapter 95: The Grim Goblin Strikes" shows that he's Sarah's father and he's associated with Prof. Redback and Jane.

  • Apologetic Attacker: When he and Amity had to fight each other in "The Rescue", he tells her he's just doing his job and says no hard feelings.
  • Demoted to Extra: Played with. While Wrath has at least two more appearances than canon Season 1 in Book 1, he isn't as prominent a villain.

    Webstor Manylegs

Webstor Manylegs

A former writer of child's literature and the creator of "Otabin", he was made the head of the Emperor's Coven's media and news department in order to cover up Luz's existence from the public. As of Book 2, he's been locked up in the Conformatorium and replaced by Felicity Fox.

    • In "To Serve", he sold Boscha a book on how humans saw witches, which she used to slander Luz and culminated in her and Eda being captured and ordered to be petrified.
    • The Book 1 epilogue reveals that he sold Lilith a pair of dimensional scissors to find Eda in the human realm and she accidentally attacked the Noceda's car in self defense, which led to Camila's death and Luz's adoption by Eda.

    Willow's Dads

Gilbert and Harvey Sullivan "Sully" Park

Willow's fathers and alumni of Hexside, Gilbert is part of the Construction Coven and Sully in Plant.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: The show reveals in "Them's the Breaks, Kid" that Gilbert went to St. Epiderm and studied in the Construction track and Harvey attended Glandus High and was in Abominations. Here, the Parks both went to Hexside with Gilbert (Harvey's counterpart) also studying Construction and transfering from Glandus to Hexside and Sully (Gilbert's counterpart) went into Plants.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: They debut prior to "Adventures in the Elements" instead of the photo cameo in "Understanding Willow".

  • Noble Wolf
  • Papa Wolf: He's very protective of both his daughters and acts without fear or hesitance to do so. His being a werewolf makes him a literal case.

    Swan and Zebra Harwitch

Swan and Zebra Harwitch

Cat, Dog and Moose's parents, whom like their daughter, are healers.

  • Animal Theme Naming: As you can see, their names, their children's names, and even their ancestors, fall into this since they're named after Earth animals.
  • The Bully: Zebra seems to have been one as a kid, as he was the one who stole Lilith's lunch money and thus prompting Eda's abomination attack.
  • Character Development: They spent their whole lives under Nicole's thumb and following her orders, and they hoped their daughter would fall in line with Boscha the same way due to their business connections. It takes a talk with Ms. Traveler to see they were wrong and they become more open-minded, healing Luz and Amity as an apology for antagonizing them and thanks for saving Cat from the Coachman.
  • Grew a Spine: Following their talk with Ms. Traveler, Zebra and Swan stand up to Nicole and end their friendship with her.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The sidetrack "Cat's Jubilee" reveals that the Harwitches are descendants of a human woman named Jamila who was adopted into their family. Word of God later clarifies that Swan is Jamila's descendant.
  • Healing Hands: Like their daughter, Zebra and Swan are both healers.

    Regal Family

Harlan and Mary Regal

Amelia's parents, who work as a secretary for a food goods company and the CEO of a law firm, respectively.

  • Character Development: Both of them, like Zebra and Swan, were Nicole's henchwitches in their high school days and blindly followed her orders in present day. This caused strife with their daughters due to the Hierons' actions towards their friends and after a talk with Ms. Traveler, they stand up for themselves.
  • Green Thumb: Both of them are members of the Plant Coven, just as Amelia is on the Plant Track.
  • Grew a Spine: That talk with Ms. Traveler about how they had treated their daughter causes them to see how much Nicole has influenced them, so they cut her out of their lives.
  • One-Steve Limit: Mary is one of the many female characters with this name, others including Lambi, Ms. Traveler, and Mary Gates.

    Baron Samedi

Baron Samedi

A strange figure who has arrived in Bonesborough to punish those he deems guilty and deserving of punishment. He has history with Ms. Traveler.

  • Big Damn Heroes: He saves Lilith from dying, allowing Hooty to find her so she can be given proper treatment.
  • Deal with the Devil: He forces Lilith into one at the end of Book 1 and in "Shaping Up or Nothing", he makes one with Luz to free Lilith's soul so long as she gets the Inner Demon's for him.
  • Demonic Possession: He initially uses the body of the deceased Dr. Facilier, whose soul he trapped in a shrunken head. Puck destroys said body in "Shaping Up or Nothing" and he later possesses Lilith's in "Way Down to Mel's Town", albeit temporarily. He takes control of her to help the Clawthornes and their rescue party take down Mel in the next chapter and releases Lilith afterward, telling Luz to take it as a reminder of the deal she made with him.
  • I Know Your True Name: Sort of. He knew Ms. Traveler by a name starting with "S" in the past.

    Sandra Storms

Sandra Storms

Mattholomule's divorced mother.

  • Dishing Out Dirt: Given how there's sand around her when she first appears, Sandra seems to be in the Construction Coven.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Sandra displays herself as protective of Mattholomule and eager to flay anyone who allows people to mess with or hurt them.
  • Good Parents: She loves Matt and Steve very much and tries her best to make sure Matt isn't in danger of getting hurt. When she sees him standing on his own, she places her support in him.
  • Mama Bear: Just try and mess with her son, and she'll flay the poor sucker or worse. She nearly does so to Nicole after learning about Boscha bullying Matt.

    Beth and Jerry Smith

Beth and Jerry Smity

The daughter and son-in-law of Witch Rick Sanchez, and the parents of Hexside students Morty and Summer.

    Row Family

Suzy, Mark, and Jason Row

Bo's polyamorous parents. All of them work as healers.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Invoked by Mark. Upon seeing Bo invited Mattholomule over for dinner, Mark intentionally calls him her boyfriend to embarrass them, Bo taking it harder.
  • Healing Hands: As previously listed, each of them are healers.
  • Love Triangle: Word of God says that Suzy and Jason fought over Mark in their youth only to learn that they had a lot in common, which led to all three of them ending up together.
  • Polyamory: All three of them are in a polyamorous relationship, and they have an equal amount of love for each other and for their daughter.

    Samwitch Saltstar

Samwitch Saltstar

Simon, Cain and Beck's father and widower of Delara, Athena's brother, and thus Boscha & Boris' uncle and Nicole's brother-in-law.

    Hardy Boils

Hardy Boils

A private investigator for the Oracle Coven, he's currently looking into Bria's disappearance and the supposed criminal activity surrounding Glandus High.

  • Boots of Toughness: He wears black steel-toed boots.
  • Conspicuous Trenchcoat: To avoid drawing attention to himself, Hardy also wears a black trenchcoat all the time.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: He has pale skin and black hair and beard. Being an oracle and detective, he can give off an odd vibe just from his appearance.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Boils has a stitched scar smack dab on his forehead.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name coincides with the boil sticking out of his head.
  • Private Detective: He's a high-profiled one looking into two cases and trying to see if they're connected.
  • Seers: He's an oracle; he doesn't, however, use said skills while working.
  • Uncertain Doom: In "Prelude to War, Part 3", Boils ends up getting fed to Ivy/Basilisk #6 for trying to connect Glandus to the Tarot Guild and thus, Bria's disappearance. His fate is left unknown until Chapter 80 when he turns out to have gone off the grid after Faking the Dead.

    Grimhilde

Grimhilde the Evil Queen

An acquaintance of Vanz Ator, she was a former prisoner to the Magic Mirror he kept in his shop.

  • Adaptational Sympathy: Grimhilde's more of a victim in the LCU, as her ascencion to evil was caused by Maleficent, who impersonated a Fairy Godmother to set up her downfall.
  • Character Development: With encouragement from Dr. Facilier, she sits down with Sunny and tells her about her past life. Grimhilde hated Sunny just for resembling Snow White and being so alike personality-wise, but comes to see that Sunny is her own person and not a reincarnation of her former stepdaughter. Grimhilde also sees that her desire for revenge against her enemies after being trapped in the Magic Mirror for centuries, doomed to answer people's questions and grant their wishes, was simply her need to be in control again and she merely wants to move on from it now.
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: In Chapter 90: "The Steve Chapter", she offers a poison apple to Sunny only for Steve to stop Sunny from it. She honestly didn't know why she does this.
  • Last Episode, New Character: She was one of the last characters introuduced in Book 1.
  • Rogues' Gallery Transplant: The Big Bad of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs who got trapped in the same Magic Mirror she used in the past.
  • Unknown Rival: She develops a grudge against Sunny Muse, who doesn't even know this woman's plotting against her.

    Cups and Mugs

Cups and Mugs Holder

Twin siblings who are pranksters.

    Hail Whispers

Dr. Hail Whispers

Raine's mother and a member of the Healing Coven.

  • Family Theme Naming: Much like her child, Hail is named after a type of weather pattern.
  • Healing Hands: She was shown to be a healer in Chapter 79 and still is as seen in Chapter 93.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: For a time, Hail had no idea how Raine disappeared after the Gland Prix when their rebellion was detained. Raine decided to visit her in Chapter 95 to assure their safety, but whether they did hasn't been confirmed yet.

Blight Family

    Odalia Blight

Odalia Blight (née Grunhar)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_odalia.png

The Blight siblings' controlling and manipulative mother, who begins changing her ways as a result of Amity's hardships.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Odalia makes her debut here in "Blighted by the Light", which adapts "Adventures in the Elements". Prior to this, she had a vocal cameo in "Emotional Guilt", which adapts the second half of "The Intruder".
  • Adaptational Heroism: Canon Odalia is a Sociopath who is revealed in "Clouds on the Horizon" to be working with Belos to commit genocide in order to elevate herself to a royal status. LCU Odalia has a Heel/Jerkass Realization long before she gets to that point and decides to become The Atoner, becoming a member of the Covens Against the Throne in order to dethrone Belos so Amity can stay on the Isles without being threatened for her half-Fae status.
  • Amicable Exes
  • Ascended Extra: Plays a much larger role here, especially once her past relationship with Lilith is revealed. She is even the main character of Chapter 68.
  • The Atoner: After becoming cognizant of how her actions and ignorance have pushed her family away and led to their resentment of her, Odalia becomes this.
  • Crush Blush: She had feelings for Lilith in her youth, which caused her to have these around her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Odalia grew up in a broken home with financial troubles and parents that were willing to abuse her physically. Her hatred towards her parents was so strong, she ended up killing them before she graduated from school.
  • Decomposite Character: Her role in getting Luz and her friends expelled from Hexside is given to Nicole Hieron, Boscha's mother.
  • Disowned Parent: Amity disowns her mother in Chapter 50 after finding out that Odalia gave Lilith the idea to curse Eda. Subverted in the beginning of the "Tarot Guild" arc when Amity forgives and reaccepts Odalia as her mother.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite not having the highest opinion of Eda during their time in Hexside together, she encouraged Lilith to only temporarily curse her sister.
  • Forgiveness: Amity forgives her for everything that's happened between them at her faux wedding in Chapter 109, as she wants to have a better relationship with Odalia.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Born into a financially troubled home, Odalia would eventually rise to become one of the most prominent businesswomen in the Isles.
  • Mama Bear: She reveals herself to be this when she throws Lilith out for using her daughter, breaks Nicole's nose for encouraging Boscha to ruin Amity's relationship with Luz, and participates in rescuing Amity from Alador's parents.
  • Meaningful Rename: She took the Blight family name after marrying Alador to distance herself from her deceased parents and even made Geist do the same. After losing the lawsuit against Arthur and Destiny in Chapter 96, Odalia has to divorce Alador and take the Grunhar name once again.
  • Opinion-Changing Dream: After seeing how her attempts to control her family while neglecting her children have had negative consequences and could worsen to the point of a Bad Future, Odalia vows to make amends with her family even if they want nothing more to do with her.
  • Parents as People
  • Secret-Keeper: She knew for decades that Lilith cursed her sister.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: "Chapter 118: See the Blight" reveals that she murdered her Abusive Parents before graduating from school. With her having changed for the better and Adaptational Heroism, this doesn't damage how her family sees her now too much.
  • Took a Level in Kindness
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: "Understanding Lilith" reveals that she put the idea of cursing Eda into Lilith's head.

    Geist Grunhar

Geist Grunhar-Blight

Odalia's brother, Alador's brother-in-law and the uncle of Amity, Edric and Emira as well as the twins' godfather.

  • Cool Uncle: Amity calls him the "fun uncle".
  • Master of Illusion: He was in the Illusion track just like the twins, and later Amity, are.
  • Meaningful Name: Geist's name is German for "spirit" or "mind", depending on the translation and context. It was meant to foreshadow how different Geist's path had ended up being from Odalia's.
  • The Nicknamer: He gives one to everyone he saw in the past.
  • Parental Substitute: He starts looking after Edric and Emira after they run away from home in "A Surprising Visitor".

    Arthur & Destiny Blight

Arthur & Destiny Blight

Alador's parents, Odalia's in-laws, and the Blight children's paternal grandparents. They take pride in upholding their family's name and resent Odalia for forcing them into retirement.

  • Abusive Parents: In addition to neglecting Alador during their youth, they've locked their mutated children in the basement of their factory, refusing to get them help because if word gets out it might hurt the reputation of the Blight family.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: They become antagonists the moment they return in their second appearance, being hired by Terra to keep brainwashing Alador while keeping him from seeing his family or making amends with Odalia.
  • Evil Old Folks
  • Faux Affably Evil: At first Amity is led to believe that they genuinely want to get to know their granddaughter as they try to pass themselves off as eccentric but harmless. The "harmless" part goes away when Amity finds out what happened to her father's siblings.
  • Hate Sink: They're Abusive Parents who neglected their son and look down at him, they dismissed their other grandchildren while trying to turn Amity against her mother, they called King a servant and Luz "exotic", and they hid away their mutated children in the basement of their factory to prevent word from getting out, intending to lock Amity and King up when they find out the truth. It's later revealed that they were responsible for Alador's falling out with Darius, having turned the latter against their son by framing his parents for a crime and saying Alador tipped off the Coven captain and after Terra hires them to keep an eye on Alador, they use Amity's disappearance to try and turn him against Odalia, which they successfully do by brainwashing him to divorce her.
  • Killed Off for Real: In "See the Blight", Destiny dies as a result of a falling walkway falling and crushing her head, a result of the Grim Goblin making sure Arthur and Destiny weren't captured by the rebellion and gave up any Tarot Guild secrets.
  • Laser-Guided Karma
  • Manipulative Bastard: They do everything in their power to turn Alador against Odalia, using Amity's disappearance as being a result of Odalia's actions.
  • Never My Fault: Arthur and Destiny refuse to take responsibility for their actions. They try to downplay their abuse of Alador, Arthur blames a dead child (calling them stupid) for his Abomi-Goblins getting recalled, and when their children were horribly mutated by accidents in their unsafe factory, Arthur and Destiny blamed it on their children's incompetence.
  • Retired Monster: Justified and inverted. Odalia forced them into retirement when she started her own Blight Industries with Alador.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Arthur looks just like Alador, but with a moustache-beard and gray curly hair.
  • Unreliable Narrator: In order to win Amity over, Arthur and Destiny claim that Odalia is only taking advantage of Alador, but everything they say should be taken with a grain of salt, especially since they lied to Alador about his siblings being dead.

    Gretchen & Griffin Grunhar

Gretchen & Griffin Grunhar

The deceased parents of Odalia and Geist.

  • Abusive Parents: Griffin physically struck Odalia when she raised her tone and spoke against him. Chapter 118 mentions that Gretchen burned Odalia's Grom dress while she was still wearing it.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The cause of their deaths remains unknown, Odalia refusing to say anything when Jiminy asks her about it. No longer ambiguous as of "See the Blight"; Odalia did them in by poisoning them.
  • Given Name Reveal: Their names were never revealed when they were first mentioned, and it wouldn't be until Chapter 68 that they were finally revealed.
  • Hate Sink: Gretchen and Griffin forced their children to participate in their get-rich-quick schemes, shout at Odalia for choosing to go out with Lilith rather than the heir to the Blight fortune, and even abused Odalia physically when she stands up for herself.
  • Killed Offscreen: They died before their children even graduated from Hexside, and it's a mystery as to how.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: They ended up paying for their abuse of their children when Odalia poisoned the two assholes right before she graduated.

Hieron Family

    Nicole Hieron

Nicole Hieron

Boscha's pink-haired mother. Nicole is a triclops businesswoman with an intense rivalry with Odalia and an even more intense hatred towards Eda, prioritizing revenge above all else if she's "wronged".

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She and her wife didn't appear in canon until a flashback in "Them's the Breaks, Kid". In ''LC' , they debut in present day in "The First Day".
  • Alchemy Is Magic: Nicole studies in Potions as a student, and she runs her own Potion making company known as Heiron Labs.
  • Arc Villainess: Nicole replaces Boscha as one in the second half of Book 1, going after Luz when her daughter fails to get revenge. She nominates Luz for grom queen hoping she'd fail to defeat the Fear Bringer, helps Boscha with her plot to slander Luz and out Amity as Lilith's spy to get the girls to break up. She tries to continue this in Book 2 as she gets Luz, Amity, Willow and Gus expelled from Hexside, but is swiftly put in her place.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Nicole serves as one of the main antagonists in the series. She repeatedly antagonizes Luz and her friends because Boscha couldn't show Luz up and so she could pay Eda back for humiliating her once when they were students themselves, all because she wants to hit Eda where it hurts.
  • Casting a Shadow: Her deal with the Baron gives her the ability to cast and control a shadow army, as well as teleport using them.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Nicole was in the potions track like the Clawthorne sisters, so she had a yellow uniform.
  • Deal with the Devil: Desperate to get revenge on the Clawthornes, she makes a deal with Baron Samedi to accomplish this in "Prelude to War: Part 3".
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father Dmitri disappeared in the past, which is how she took control of Hieron Labs.
  • Disowned Parent: Chapter 54 states that her son Boris went nameless because of her attitude. In Chapter 82, Boscha disowns Nicole as her mother too, for getting Athena and Tom arrested and forcing Boscha to be like her. She reinforces this decision in Chapter 123: "Caught Up" after Nicole tries to get Boscha and Yuki to kill Emily.
  • Evil Is Petty: She nominated Luz for Grom Queen to get revenge for Boscha and she got Luz, Amity, Willow and Gus expelled the same day the former two returned a week after the petrification ceremony just to be rid of them.
  • Hate Sink: Given her intense hatred towards Eda, she doesn't hold Luz in high regards, encourages her daughter to make the human suffer and prides herself on upholding the family name by any means necessary, especially revenge. When Boscha fails to do so, she takes matters into her own hands and when it puts her in a tight spot, she'll simply pay off those who try to take action against her.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: The Emperor hired her company to revive the basilisks and she has no shame in torturing them. After recapturing Megan, she tells her she's nothing more than a test subject and property of her company.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Nicole receives a lot of well-deserved punishment for her actions:
    • After Luz succeeds in beating Grom, Lilith orders some coven guards to confiscate her fountain as fake evidence (the statue of which gets broken) and Eda and King spray paint the words "The Hieny House" on her home.
    • For helping Boscha with her plan to break up Luz and Amity, she gets a broken nose from Odalia and is barfed on by King following the petrification ceremony which the crowd records.
    • For getting Luz, Amity, Willow and Gus expelled along with blackmailing several people including Skara's parents, she's removed from the Parent Creature Association, given a restraining order banning her from Hexside and suffers a curse that reminds her of when Eda pulled a prank on her, leaving her wailing in agony.
    • Her actions during the "Glandus War" Arc leave her wallowing in defeat: her transfering Boscha to Glandus led to Nina impaling her, which gives Athena reason to kick her out, her participation in the siege on the Owl House causes her to miss a day of work, and her betting company money on the winner of the war and losing it leads to Vitimir staging a hostile takeover and become her new boss. As of "Understanding Odalia", she's living in a rundown hotel.
    • In Chapter 77, she gets Athena and Tom arrested because she's deluded herself into thinking they were the ones influencing Boscha for the worse. 5 chapters later, she attacks Luz and Vitimir both to kill the kid and reclaim her company: this gets her kicked out of the Potions coven and branded a criminal and when she tries to get Boscha to come with her, Boscha disowns her. As a result, Nicole is left all alone.
  • Named by the Adaptation: She has no canonical name, so she is given one here.
  • Never My Fault: Her Fatal Flaw. Nicole just doesn't believe that her actions have consequences or that she can do any wrong, always blaming everybody else when she causes trouble for others.
  • Noodle Incident: The reason Nicole hates Eda is because she played a prank that made Nicole look like she had a Potty Failure.
  • Obnoxious Entitled Housewife: She replaces Odalia as the most well known one of these, as she'll do anything to mess with anyone who messes with her or Boscha, especially her.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Eda's Potty Failure prank on Nicole works both ways as Nicole refused to let it go and has been trying to get back at Eda for it by messing with Luz. Once Nicole receives justice, the cringe curse that comes with her ban from Hexside's grounds forcibly reminds her of it, leaving her screaming.
  • Rich Bitch: She runs her family's potions company and flaunts her wealth by finding ways to ruin people's lives. She falls out of the "rich" half once Athena kicks her out and she's branded a wild witch.
  • Villainous Friendship: Nicole has one with Felicity Fox, hiring her to help expose Ms. Traveler as a "threat" and get her arrested. Said friendship is ended by Felicity in "After the War", and she tells Nicole they were only friends to get something out of each other.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • Flashbacks in "The Ballad of Eda: Part 2" shows her alchemists torturing Vee with no remorse, and this was before we learned she brought the basilisks back from extinction.
    • In "Shaping Up or Nothing", she goes on the offensive and tries to kill Luz once and for all using her shadow powers.

    Athena Hieron

Athena Hieron (née Saltstar)

Boscha's other mother. Athena is a Grudgby coach who's too lenient with her wife's oath to always get revenge. However, she starts to change that when she sees how much damage her family has caused.

  • Accomplice by Inaction: Athena never acts whenever Boscha causes trouble at school, which Odalia tells her to her face in "The Forest of Fear" after she confronts Nicole for ruining her daughter's relationship. After hearing Odalia call her a lapdog, Athena starts to take charge more in Book 2.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She and her wife didn't appear in canon until a flashback in "Them's the Breaks, Kid". In LC, they debut in present day in "The First Day".
  • Alchemy Is Magic: It took a while, but she is confirmed to have be a potionist like her wife and daughter in "Chapter 110: For the HECK of It".
  • Ambiguous Situation: It still hasn't been revealed what track she studied when she was a student. The authors claim she may have studied potions like her wife. Chapter 110 officially confirms she was.
  • Butch Lesbian: Athena, who's married to Nicole, always wears a tracksuit symbolizing her work as a sports coach and played said sport in her youth.
  • Character Development: Athena initially had no reason to question her wife or discipline her daughter, being fine with Nicole dismissing her to talk with Boscha alone to discuss their revenge plans. When she sees how negatively that affects Boscha along with her victims and is called out for it by Odalia, Athena starts being more strict while also looking out for Boscha's well-being: this is what leads to Athena calling out Nicole for endangering Boscha the moment she had her transfered to Glandus which led to her getting impaled before kicking Nicole out of the house.
  • The Dog Bites Back:
    • After thinking things over, she stands up to Nicole in "Blindsided" over how she's let her desire for revenge ruin Boscha's future.
    • She does it again in "The Glandus War: What is it Good For?", kicking Nicole out of the house because her decision to transfer Boscha without consulting her led to her injury at Nina's claws.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: "The Forest of Fear" shows that Athena was clueless about Boscha and Nicole's plan to humiliate Luz and Amity, not that it makes up for not doing anything to stop them before they did.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Her name isn't revealed in canon, so she's given a name here.
  • Pet the Dog: She doesn't try to force out answers regarding why her daughter's hiding Tom in their attic and leaves him a plate of food while he's asleep. When she does get them, she allows Tom to stay in her home after kicking Nicole to the curb.
  • Pushover Parents: Okay, neither Athena nor Nicole do anything to stop their daughter from doing whatever she wants at school, hence why Boscha's convinced she can get away with it. But Athena's the worst of the two as after Nicole helps Boscha enact her revenge plot on Luz and Amity, Odalia describes her as Nicole's "lapdog" for not stopping them or even looking into what they were planning, which she decides to change.

Mel's Gang

    In General

    Mel

Mel

A Fae that Edric befriends through speed dating.

  • Arch-Enemy: She's the closest Amity has to an official one: she turns Edric against her and the rest of their family, orchestrates her parents' divorce, outs Amity as half-Fae on a live news broadcast, steals the Sword of Adam from her, and announces to her friends and loved ones that she no longer believes in the Titan.
  • Arc Villainess: She's confirmed to be the antagonist of both the "Return to the Boiling Isles" arc, stirring up drama for everybody, and the "Underworld" arc, where the Clawthornes and the rescue party they assemble journey to the Underworld to rescue King, Edric, the Holder brothers, and Emily as Mel takes control of the place from Hades and plans to start a cult following based around her.
  • Attention Whore: Mel's overall goal is to be praised, worshipped like how the Greek gods used to be before humanity moved on.
  • Bad Boss: If her treatment towards Serpentina in "The Obligatory Beach Day" is any indication, she doesn't hold each of her gang in high regard.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Chapter 104 shows that she's been kidnaping sentient animal people from other realms to keep as pets. They know eating Underworld food would trap them there, so they either choose to starve or resort to cannibalism, and she doesn't care if they die; she merely blames them for not accepting her "generous offerings".
  • Been There, Shaped History: In Chapter 100, Mel proudly claims responsibility for causing the most devastating riots in Human history, including Amsterdam, the French Revolutions, the 1938 Chicago Riots, and the LA Riots.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At first glance she just seems like a local teen who enjoys causing trouble but has a soft spot for Edric. It later turns out that she's actually an Entitled Bitch who just wants mortals to worship her and plans on keeping Edric as a pet that would never leave her.
  • Blasphemous Boast: Exaggerated. Mel is an actual goddess, and she brags about her actually being supposedly undefeatable or unpunishable everytime somebody stands up to her. She's eventually knocked off her very high snorse.
  • Color Motif: Purple. Her hair and clothes are colored as such, along with her dragon form.
  • Connected All Along: "Chapter 107: Resolutions" states that Serpentina is her cousin.
  • Corrupted Character Copy
  • Daddy's Little Villain: She is Hades and Maleficent's daughter, and she isn't any nicer than they are.
  • Death and the Maiden: She's the daughter of a death goddess and develops an interest in Edric, who's a teenager compared to her being centuries old.
  • Despotism Justifies the Means
  • Divine Parentage: She is Hades' daughter after all, so this would be a given.
  • Divine Date: She's a goddess who romances Edric, who's mortal. It's deconstructed by Amity in "Highway to Mel" as being inappropriate due to Mel being centuries older than her brother.
  • Emotion Control: Mel has the ability to do this, and can even amplify negative feelings and emotions to bring out the worst in people.
  • Entitled Bitch: Whenever Mel wants something, she takes it. Doesn't matter what, she'll claim it for herself, even people and sentient beings.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Mel is completely flabbergasted when the witchlings decide against abandoning Emily for an easy out to go home; none of them want to give her the satisfaction of getting out of being punished for her actions against them, much less letting someone suffer in order to escape. The Baron gleefully points out how the witchlings have shown more maturity in a few seconds than Mel has in her entire immortal life.
  • Expy: She's serves as one to Mal, Maleficent & Hades' daughter from the Descendants series due to her being a rebel who sports purple as her signature color. She's also meant to act as one to Ms. Chalice.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her own pride. Mel feeds herself enough hype to rival—no exceed egomaniacs like Nicole, Felicity, or Adrian Graye, looking down on anyone who's a mortal while constantly bragging that she's exempt from punishment. This ends up leading into her downfall when her attempt to defeat Team Hell-and-Back by offering them passage home in exchange for keeping Emily in the Underworld failed.
  • Foil: To Puck Goodfellow. Both are Fae who've never grown up, cause trouble everywhere they go, and didn't take responsibility for their actions. However, Puck has gone through a lot of Character Development and accepted his role in several things (mainly how his actions affected his friends), while Mel thrives on making things worse for shits and giggles. This is especially displayed for Amity, who Puck feels guilty for over making her life more difficult while Mel enjoys it.
  • Freudian Excuse:
    • Mel acts the way she does because her divorced parents tend neglect her, and because of Hades and Maleficent never disciplining her (not helped by Maleficent's emotional abuse), she was convinced that she could do whatever she wanted and not take responsibility for any of her chaos.
    • According to Word of God, the reason Mel keeps screwing over Amity by revealing personal secrets about her is because she may be jealous of Amity having a loving family and friends who support her, compared to Mel's parents never being around.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Through Trini's assistance, she plans out Alador and Odalia's divorce by forcing the latter to have an affair with Lilith, then taking pictures and sending them to Felicity so she exposes them during the trial between Odalia and Alador's parents. The final touch was manipulating Edric's emotions to turn him against his sisters so she could have him all to herself.
  • Hate Sink: Where to start? She manipulates Edric so he becomes loyal to her and she can take him for a pet, gets his parents to divorce so that happens, outs Amity as half-Fae to the Isles (which eventually leads to her Self-Imposed Exile), sends Emily to the Underworld to suffer in her own personal Hell, kidnaps Edric, King, and the Holder brothers, usurps Hades to take over the Underworld, makes the rescue party suffer their worst nightmares before making them fight for their lives while protecting a comatose Lilith, outs Amity again for becoming an atheist, and tries to unleash Cronus on the mortal realms all so she can be worshiped once more.
  • Just Desserts: She unleashed Cronus so he'd feed on the mortal realms, and becomes his only victim when he eats her instead to replenish his strength.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After everything she does before and during the "Underworld" Arc, she ends up being curb-stomped by the witches who came to rescue Edric from her, notably by Cross in his dragon form and Lindsay in her "Madstream" form. She was then Swallowed Whole by her grandfather Cronus and upon being freed, she was admonished by Hades and Persephone and they decide to punish her by restricting her freedom and doing damage control regarding all her past chaos.
  • Mommy Issues: Maleficent's lack of involvement in Mel's life combined with what happened between them after Jour had been cursed and Aurore ended her and Mel's friendship has led to this. It's even implied to be why Mel's got a problem with Amity, because she practically has four moms; Odalia (her birth mother), Lilith, Eda (her Parental Substitutes), and Camila (her future mother-in-law).
  • Moral Myopia: She gets mad about Amity accidentally outing her as a goddess when she intentionally outs Amity as half-Fae to the Boiling Isles; Edric rightfully calls her out on this.
  • More than Mind Control: With her powers, she can amplify the negative emotions and feelings that people are already feeling, bringing out the worst in them.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The "Underworld Arc" ends with her coming to regret all of her actions once Hades admits he cares about her and doesn't want her to turn out like him.
  • Never Grew Up: According to Macaria, Mel's stunted growth due to her Fae ancestry led to her never maturing despite apparently being centuries old. It becomes very clear when she can't fathom the witchlings saving Emily instead of leaving her in the Underworld.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: Mel may look humanoid, but she is half-Fae, half-Greek goddess, on account of being Hades and Maleficent's daughter.
  • Patricide: Mel doesn't kill Hades, but she does overthrow him and have him thrown into the River Styx. He soon gets out, thanks to Zeus.
  • Pride: The sin she represents. Mel repeatedly looks down on mortals due to her half-god status, believing all they're good for is worshiping the gods.
  • Put on a Bus: Word of God confirmed that she would not appear for the remainder of Book 2 following the end of the "Underworld" arc.
  • Red Herring: She was originally implied to be the Shapeshifter, but "Shaping Up or Nothing" reveals that she's a completely different Fae.
  • Semi-Divine: She's only half-goddess, but has a lot of her father's abilities and immortality.

  • Good Parents: Unlike his ex-wife Jenny, Perry genuinely loves Gus and wanted to raise him as best he could. • Improbable Weapon User: He favors utilizing a kazoo in battle. Eda acts skeptical of his capabilities in a fight because of this.

  • Story-Breaker Power: He proved to be far too powerful for a witch, hence Belos killing him before he could stop his plans.

  • Knew It All Along: In "Chapter 115: Thank Titan It's Frieday", King mentions that she knows of some distant cousins in the family. Since King mentions this to Cross, who's uncertain about the news, context implies that Gwen knows him and his mother since they are Clawthornes by blood.
  • Punny Name: She decides to let Luz and King call her "Gwendma".
  • Shipper on Deck: For Eda and Raine. When Gwen heard Eda was going to meet with Raine, she assumes Eda's planning on proposing to them.

  • Did Not Get the Girl: ENBY, actually. In "Chapter 108: The Errands in the Willows", Diana mentions that she was crushing on Raine before they transferred to Hexside. Seeing as Raine fell for Eda later on, Denise did not stand a chance.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In her series, Star was sent to Earth to practice her magic in safety while staying with Marco Diaz and his family, all while Ludo repeatedly tried to steal her magic wand. • She also shares the fact that she was conceived out of wedlock with Hendrick Shystream, Lindsay's older brother.
  • Crush Blush: Has one in Chapter 132 after Emily thanks her for the souvenir she got at Palm Stings, thus confirming Zee's fallen for Emily.
  • Dye Hard: Downplayed In-Universe. She has a few streaks of orange in her hair which would remind you of Clair.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When Zee first appears, she's quick to recognize that her brother's interested in Lindsay and promptly teases him about it.
  • Familiar: Chapter 111 shows that her palisman is a teal turtle named Aqua. To differentiate her from Tyrone's spiked turtle palisman Sheldon, Aqua is designed with a gem embedded in her shell.
  • The Gadfly: Upon learning that Cross likes Lindsay, she constantly teases and pushes him to try and get out of the friend zone with her and even encourages Lindsay to ask him out, embarrassing her.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • "Thank Titan It's Frieday" shows that Zee really does have the dating experience Cross is skeptical of. She was unsure of herself when she was coming out and the experiences she had from her time playing the field made her realize that she'd be happy with whoever she ends up with, regardless of gender.
    • "Coming Off a Little Shystream" states that she would rather flunk out of school on purpose to get out of joining the Beast Keeping Coven, seeing the Coven System for how flawed it is.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: All Anna wanted for Zee is the hope that she'll grow up loved. Zee shows that she wants this for herself as well, wanting for her cousins in the Clawthorne family to accept her as one of them. She gets this wish when both Eda and Brolin tell her she's more of a Clawthorne than her adopted mother's spiteful parents.
  • Irony:
    • Zee is supportive of Cross and Lindsay's feelings toward each other, but ended up delaying their chances of hooking up by manipulating Donna to ask Cross out, which makes Lindsay doubt he likes her and leads to Donna using him to win over Nina.
    • Luz notes that Zee acts more like a Clawthorne than Cross (who's a Clawthorne by blood) does after getting to know her.
  • Light 'em Up: She can use light magic, casting blue light along side that of Boscha, Hunter, and Ukla while fighting Nicole in "Caught Up".
  • Magic Staff: Zee's shown to have one in Chapter 111, topped with her palisman Aqua.
  • Making a Splash: Water magic seems to be her forte as she can control water in her dragon form.
  • The Matchmaker: She tries to set her brother up with any girl from his school that she meets, and in "So IFWOT?", pulls a Batman Gambit that results in him getting asked out by Donna.
  • Meaningful Name: The Zinnia flower is a symbol of friendship, which foreshadows Zee becoming Emily's friend after meeting her.
  • Mentor in Queerness: When she sees that Lindsay's having romantic strife due to having feelings for both Cross and Emily, Zee calmly encourages her to pace herself and to not label her orientation as she figures herself out.
  • Missing Mom: In "Caught Up", she reveals to Emily that her birth mother, Anna Bell, died when she was a year old as Anna's criminal parents tried to kidnap her and Anna made the ultimate sacrifice to keep her safe.
  • Odd Name Out: While the rest of her family have alliterative names (Damien and Drayden having the family name, Cross and Clair optionally having the latter's pre-marital name), she does not.
  • Only Known By Her Nickname: Her full first name is only heard in Chapter 101 when Cross introduces Lindsay to her.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: After seeing that Emily rejoined the Emperor's Coven, Zee becomes very saddened at the thought that she threw away their friendship. It affects her so much, she doesn't make a joke about Cross ending up in hot water with Donna after she learns Lindsay and the Drakescale siblings were hiding the fact that Emily came back to the Isles from her.
  • Proud Beauty: She knows she's attractive, but only believes herself to be a true "Drakescale charmer" after she lets Emily see her in her dragon form and become flustered over it.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: While talking to Lindsay in Chapter 115, Zee mentions that she's pansexual and would be happy dating someone whether they were male, female, or non-binary.
  • Really Gets Around: Non-sexual example. Buck believes that she brings home a new partner every week. With her Commitment Issues, it's a given.
  • Shipper on Deck: For all of Zee's ribbing, she's dedicated to seeing Cross and Lindsay hook up. In all honesty, she ships her brother with any girl she sees is a good match for him, which leads to her getting Donna to date him.
  • Ship Tease: She repeatedly flirts with Emily from the moment they meet, gives her a chance to prove she's changed, and the two come to bond over how they feel like they don't know what to do with their lives. Once Zee learns Emily knows her family secret, she slyly offers to show off her full dragon form in private for Emily, making her blush. Zee comes to make good on that promise as she and Emily grow closer and share more of their vulnerabilities.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: While her father has orange eyes and her brother's are amber, Zee has gold-colored eyes.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Her hair is so long, she keeps it in one.
  • Tragic Keepsake: She keeps the oracle charm of her birth mother, Anna Bell, in her pocket at all times.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By tricking Donna into going out with Cross, Zee set her brother up for heartbreak when Felicia convinced Donna to take advantage of the situation to win Nina over.
  • Water Is Womanly: She is a natural in using water magic, especially in her dragon form.

  • Abusive Parent: Implied to be one, as he called his own son a good-for-nothing.
  • Ambiguous Situation: His appearance and Sonya calling him 'Grimhammer' implies a connection to Tibbles. What exactly that connection is has yet to be revealed. Word of God would later confirm that Tibbles is his son.
  • The Ghost: He's only been mentioned, never seen so far. This changes in Chapter 66.

  • The Scapegoat
  • The Voice: His appearance isn't seen in "The Glandus War: The Invasion"; he is only heard talking.

  • Asshole Victim: He gets electrocuted to death by Lilith (whom he tried to kill) and his soul was sent to Hell.
  • Connected All Along
  • Hate Sink: Craig the coven guard also serves as this: he allows Boscha to severely beat Luz during their exam duel just to send a message to Eda, allowing no one to intervene or stop the duel and intending to arrest Principal Bump for allowing the child of a known criminal to attend Hexside. He sinks lower after leading a siege on the Owl House with the intent of killing everyone as payback for Lilith firing him, while admitting he was planning to kill Lilith and steal her job before she fired him.
  • Killed Off for Real: He meets his end in "Masks Off" when Lilith uses a lightning glyph to electrocute him after he's drenched in water. The following chapter confirms it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • For allowing Boscha to heavily injure Luz, Lilith strips him of his rank and kicks him out of the Emperor's Coven.
    • For leading a siege on the Owl House to try and kill Lilith and her family, Lilith kills him using a lightning glyph.
    • Due to his actions, he's eventually shown to have ended up in Hell.

    Sonya

  • Asshole Victim: She was Buried Alive at the hands of one of her victims and sent to Hell for her sins.

  • Familiar: Her debut shows her to have a lion palisman with a horn on its head.
  • Killed Off for Real: She gets killed in ""Chapter 116: Brooken Home" at the hands of Bria, who causes a collapse in her bunker lab that buries her under rubble.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: She killed Casey and mutated several other kids to perfect her so-called Chimera serum. She winds up dying at the hands of one of her test subjects. The third Helluva Dad chapter "Commercial Shoot" reveals she was sent to Hell for her actions.

    Adegast

Adegast

An octopus-like puppeteer demon who's had a grudge against the Clawthornes ever since his potions business was ruined by Luz.

  • Laser-Guided Karma: [[After Luz and Eda ruined his business before, he joins in the siege on the Owl House to get revenge by killing Eda only to be killed by her.]]
  • Unseen No More: Adegast originally didn't appear due to his attempt to scam Luz having occurred before the series began. He does make his debut during the "Glandus War" arc in Chapter 63: "The Invasion" as a member of Craig's siege army.

    Lupe

Lupe

A particularly sadistic member of the Tarot Guild. He's later revealed to be the Big Bad Wolf.

  • Arch-Enemy: He's implied to be this for Slasher, who he has a bad history with.
  • The Big Bad Wolf: As it turns out, he's the real deal. He's been living on the Boiling Isles for years and has been laying low until he could make a comeback.
  • Connected All Along: He's the lycan who murdered Donna's birth parents when she was a baby, and he's linked to Draco, her apparent uncle.
  • Eye Scream: Skara slices out his right eye in "Brooken Home", and she and Nina repeatedly jab their claws into the empty eye socket.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Lupe is typically a girl's name and he's male.
  • Meaningful Name: Lupe means "river of the wolf" in Mexican, hinting at his true identity.
  • Real After All: The Big Bad Wolf was considered an urban legend, a boogeyman to lycans and witches alike. Because of this, it always freaks people who encounter him out.
  • Sadist: He is a well known criminal versed in this, as he's responsible for killing Donna's parents and would've done the same to her had the Owl Beast not saved her.

    Firebees

Lynn Floyd, AKA Firebees

An arsonist who uses fire bees to commit his crimes. He's the witch responsible for killing Viney's father, Arnold Potts.

  • Arch-Enemy: He is seen as Viney's since he killed her father in a warehouse explosion 10 years ago.
  • The Beastmaster: Before he joined the Tarot Guild, Firebees was a member of the Beast Keeping Coven. His interest in fire bees is where he got his nickname from.
  • Connected All Along: Chapter 99, the chapter after his debut, is where he's confirmed to be a Tarot Guild member. As the chapter shows, Terra brought him back to Bonesborough to kill Odalia for Arthur and Destiny.
  • Karmic Death: After being defeated by Viney, Emira/Ms. Chievious, & Tina/Ghostina and detained by the Emperor's Coven, Firebees was confirmed to have been petrified for his crimes.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name is only mentioned once by Captain Leonte in a flashback.
  • Pyromaniac: Given his use of fire bees in his line of work and general love of arsonry, that's a yes.

The Basilisks

    In General
  • Anti-Magic: They're said to be this since the Horned King, the being that created them, may have been an anti-Titan.
  • Escaped from the Lab: With the help of coven scout Derick Faraday, Tres and Megan, along with Vee, were able to escape from the Emperor's Coven.
  • Mana Drain: The species feeds on magic, but most of them tend to absorb magic from objects rather than witches.
  • Not So Extinct: As per canon, all of them were brought back to life so Belos could learn how they absorb magic.

    Greater Basilisk

Greater Basilisk / Basilisk #2

An elusive monster that disguised herself as a Coven Inspector in order to infiltrate magic schools and feed on their residents' magic. After suffering a defeat at Eda's hands, she was recaptured and struck a deal with Emperor Belos for her freedom.

    Tres

Tres / Basilisk #3

A recent recruit of the Bards against the Throne who has an intense hatred towards Lilith. He's later revealed to be the basilisk, Number 3, and his hatred is because Lilith headed the revival program and did nothing to help free his kind.

  • Sole Survivor: He was the only member to avoid being imprisoned or killed after the Gland Prix until he reunited with Megan.

  • You Are Number 6: Literally. This is his designated number.

    Draco
A half-basilisk, half-witch hybrid who works with/for Seth of Septarsis and recruits Tres, Megan and Ivy into their army so they can mount a rebellion against the people of the Titan.

  • Connected All Along: Chapter 94 shows that he's an associate of Lupe and that he's supposedly the uncle of Donna and her long-lost twin brother.
  • The Dragon: He appears to be Seth's Number Two, given that he's the most vocal member of his army, if not The Leader.
  • Facial Horror: In trying to use a flask of acid on Donna, she blasts it with her keyblade and his face begins to melt.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He hired Lupe to murder Donna's parents, her father being his half-brother.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Half-Witch hybrid. He's half-basilisk, but the story behind his origins are unknown.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: When Donna learns Draco's the reason her birth parents are dead and he tries to convince her that her twin brother is as well, Donna (managing to manifest her keyblade once more) blasts him and uses his acid flask against him, deforming his face.

    Number 4

Basilisk #4

Torso Villa

    Fang Tribe

Fang Tribe

Nina's family, who like her are composed of werecat witches.

Leo and Pam Fangs

The parents of Nina and her siblings.

  • Abusive Parents: Emotional variant. They never gave Nina the time of day when she started acting out in her youth, failing to try and understand her and pawning her off on other people to avoid dealing with her issues themselves.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing
  • Dirty Coward: Leo. In Chapter 116, it's revealed that when Lupe and Sonya came to kidnap Pam, West, and Winter, Leo pushed Pam in front of himself and hid behind the couch. This combined with his unwillingness to leave the Villa is what leads Pam to decide on getting a divorce from him.
  • Hate Sink
  • Stepford Smiler: It's said that they accept their lot in life with fake smiles on their faces.

Ralph Fangs

A werecat man in his 20's, he's Nina's older brother.

  • Chekhov M.I.A.: He vanished ages ago, and his disappearance is one of many integral to the conspiracy run by the Tarot Guild.
  • Childhood Friends: He and Nina were once acquainted until she left the preserve to attend Glandus. When Nina fell out of touch with Donna, she reconnected with Casey.
  • Emo Teen: Nina describes him as a bit of one when telling Skara about him.
  • Expy: He's one of Casey Hartley from Night in the Woods: both are musicians who were acquainted with main characters and ended up disappearing at some point, with people assuming they ran away from home. Just like that Casey, this one is found to have died by the time Nina learns where he's been.
  • Goal in Life: He wants to be independent with his music and leave the Villa because he can't stand all the Stepford Smilers who pretend to be okay with the life they live under Belos' rule.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Casey had a crush on Nina but when he confesses and tries to kiss her at some point prior to the Glandus war, she turned him down because she was a lesbian.
  • Killed Offscreen: Chapter 116 reveals that Casey perished from Sonya dissecting him for her research.
  • Magic Music: Casey's dream is to be an indie bard, and he has his own Penstagram account so he can play for everyone to hear.
  • Mirror Character: To Robbie and Gus G, as all three guys are talented guitarists who desire to leave their homes to achieve their dreams. Both authors consider him more like the latter*, as they're both unsatisfied with life in their hometowns and have been attracted to lesbians and are informed they don't have a chance with them (Casey with Nina, Gus with Vee.)
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Like Nina, he was also skeptical of Belos and the Titan's will, plus he's disgusted by how their kind has accepted the disrespect they're given and their own self-loathing. Nina is surprised to find he thought this way, which is why she started hanging out with him again.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: He vanished at some point. Everyone in Torso Villa believes he simply ran away, but Nina is left worrying the Tarot Guild got him. Sonya claims they didn't but she's not really trustworthy. Casey's fate was left unknown until "Brooken Home", where he's revealed to be dead.

  • The Beastmaster: Thanks in part to her rural upbringing, Bloom is a member of the Beast Keeping Coven.
  • Green Thumb: Colt is a member of the Plant Coven.
  • Ironic Name: Be honest: their names remind you of the opposite of their respective covens.

  • Expy: An older brother version of Zepher Breeze with the mooching habits of Francis from Malcolm in the Middle.
  • Moment Killer: Occurs in Chapter 121; he walks in on Cross and Lindsay just as the former was asking his sister out, then proceeds to introduce himself to Cross.
  • The Slacker: To a tee. Henry doesn't have the drive to work on the family farm, having many passions but not wanting to join a coven because he's afraid of making the wrong choice. As a result, he would end up joining cults during his time in Titanwood.

    Cortland Family

Jackie

Dog Harwitch

Zebra & Swan's eldest child and Cat & Moose's older brother.

  • The Ace: As stated by Fan in "So IFWOT?", Dog is the top bard student in Merlin Meadows.
  • Familiar: Chapter 111 shows that his palisman is a white dog named Snoop.
  • Magic Music: Dog, unlike his parents or his sister (until Chapter 92), studies Bard magic, as shown in "The Glandus War: Turning Point".

    The Ghoul Girls
A group of Merlin Meadows students who are associates of Korn and his sisters, as well as being their school's flyer derby team. They're comprised of Drusilla, Helga, Belawolf, Ester, Brenda, and Gnashley.

  • The Ace: "So IFWOT?" states that Brenda is the school's top healer, and that was why she was selected to participate in said competition.
  • Expy: They are all based off of characters from Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School: Drusilla is based off Sibella, Helga of Elsa, Belawolf of Winnie the Werewolf, Ester of Phantasma but with her appearance resembling Ember McLean, and Brenda being like Tanis but named after Brendan Fraser. Though in Gnashley's case, she is based on Enid from OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes and her name is a reference to her voice actor Ashly Burch.
  • Red Mage: Gnashley was originally an illusionist, but after multi-tracking began at Merlin Meadows, she started doubling in plant magic.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Brenda has blue hair and acts very restricted whenever Amity or Luz are around, due to guilt over her sister Bangles mugging Amity.

    Tracy Speedemon

Tracy Speedemon

A falcon biped demon who is allegedly the fastest beast-witch/demon alive. She is friends with Lindsay, Andrea, Tabrella, and Jackie.

  • Alternate Self: Word of God states she's a variant of Rainbow Dash and her Equestria Girl counterpart.
  • Expy: Like her friends, Tracy is is another MLP-inspired character, in this case Rainbow Dash; she has rainbow-colored hair, Super-Speed, flight, and is a bit of a braggart along with being a good friend. She also tends to be competitive with Jackie the same way Rainbow and Applejack do and Tracy's interest in bard magic could be linked to EG Rainbow being a guitarist.
  • Red Mage: Fan states in Chapter 111 that after their principal allowed multi-tracking, Tracy, who was previously just an illusionist, started taking Bard and Construction track classes.

    Kevin Shrubs

Kevin Shrubs

The best Beast-Keeper in Merlin Meadows and Dusty's rival.

  • The Ace: Fan states Kevin's the top student in Beast Keeping when recruiting IFWOT participants.
  • The Beastmaster: He is after all a member of the Beast Keeping track and Dusty mentions he's tamed more beasts than him, but he hasn't been shown backing up his claims.
  • Expy: He's a parody to Gary Oak from Pokémon: The Series and his condescending nature towards Dusty harkens to Gary's initial attitude towards Ash.

    Fan Burndil

Fanny "Fan" Burndil

The student president of Merlin Meadows and Danny's fraternal twin sister.

  • Always Someone Better: According to Danny, Fan not only always shows him up with her accomplishments but she's more capable of making connections with people while he tends to judge too easily.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Would anybody at a young age like to be called Fanny? She certainly doesn't and makes it clear when Danny calls her that.
  • Foil: To Danny. Both are student council presidents but while Danny takes his role a little too seriously, is barely tolerated, and has a vendetta towards Luz, Fan is more charismatic and friendly towards people including Luz, expressing condolences towards the human over Amity being outed as half-Fae while Danny never even thought about doing that.
  • Master of Illusion: While fighting Danny at the IFWOT, Fan summons illusions of herself showing this to be her magic specialty.
  • Nice Girl: With her openly inviting nature, Fan holds no prejudice towards lycans nor humans, warmly greeting Nina and Luz upon meeting her.
  • Student Council President: Like her brother, she plays this role for her student council as she handpicks the students who represent Merlin Meadows at the annual IFWOT.
