Hexside School of Magic and Demonics

    In General
  • Adaptation Expansion: The school is featured more prominently, so its staff, students and classes are given more depth.
  • Ascended Extra Everyone associated with the school has bigger roles to play, especially during the "Glandus War" arc.
  • Badass Teacher: A lot of them get their chances to demonstrate themselves as one, with the "Glandus War" arc really showing what half of them can do.
  • Dirty Coward: During the "Glandus War" Arc, all the seniors graduate early and join covens or go vacationing to Palm Stings just to avoid participating in the school war.
  • Named by the Adaptation: All the teachers and students who appear that were unnamed in the show get names here, and some named characters are given last names.
  • Save Our Students: Thanks to Anu Bist encouraging the troublemakers' passions and Ms. Traveler's efforts to make bullying non-existent, the school improves vastly in terms of students' grades and behavior.

Staff

Current

    Principal Hieronymus Bump

Principal Hieronymus Bump

The principal of Hexside, whose damaged eyesight is countered with the help of his Palisman, Frewin.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Subverted. Principal Bump got his back broken by Coach Grease during the Glandus War and was taken to the Healing Coven to recover and get a hip replacement. This causes him to consider retiring but because of Faust taking control of the school in his absence, Bump challenges him to a duel at the IFWOT and wins, reclaiming his position.

    Kitsuni

Kitsuni

A golden fox woman and trickster demon who joined the Order due to changing times. In Book 2, she replaced Anu Bist as the teacher of the Detention track and later becomes the head of security.

  • Big Sister Instinct: She can be protective of her little sister Mai.
  • Broken Pedestal: Because Kitsuni has been absent from several instances where Luz and her friends could have used her help (the school war, Meteora's assasination attempt, and Luz's closest companions and Eve getting stuck on Earth), Amity stopped believing that she and her colleagues in the Order could be relied on for assistance.
  • Demonic Possession: To avoid dying after the Ninja Supreme's attempt on her life, Kitsuni has to resort to possessing Todd Tweed to save herself.
  • Disney Death: Played With. The Ninja Supreme tries to murder her so she can't interfere with the Alchemist's plans but he only succeeds in destroying her body, not her soul.
  • Playing with Fire: She can manipulate blue fire as seen in "Chapter 45: Stranger Danger".
  • Sharing a Body: As of "The Alchemist's Mutant Mayhem", she is sharing Todd's body in order to live.
  • Ship Tease: She gets a decent amount with Anu Bist, given how they shared a dance in her first appearance and she met with him right after he healed from his injuries sustained from fighting Belos.
  • Split-Personality Makeover: Due to possessing Todd's body, Kitsuni has a new appearance when she's in control; now, she has orange fur, blue eyes, long white hair, her nine tails are out, she wears a kimono and gauntlets, and she has a golden flame atop her head.
  • Technicolor Fire: Kitsuni's flames are so intense, they glow blue.

    Professor Snope

Professor Sheldon Snope

The Abomination track's Transgender teacher who replaces Professor Blanc for the new semester. He's often seen sleeping and is carried by his own Abomination everywhere.
  • Arch-Enemy: He personally sees the Inner Demon as his and spent several years trying to hunt him down within the Mindscape.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: 25 years ago, he was part of a group who attempted to exorcise the Inner Demon from the Forest of Fear. Sadly, they failed and he was the only one who escaped before he was turned into a tree. He's since had to live with the guilt but refuses to let the Inner Demon win.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: His being asleep almost constantly brings to mind the neurological disorder, Narcolepsy, which is caused by irregular sleep cycles.
  • Expy: His name and tone of voice brings to mind Severus Snape.
  • Heroic Vow: He's made it his mission to defeat the Inner Demon and avenge his friends, while also protecting his students from him.
  • Maker of Monsters: As the teacher of the abomination track, of course he's this.

    Julia Traveler

Julia Traveler/Mary Poppins/Rosie

Hexside's new guidance counselor. She's a very strict woman with no tolerance for bullying who is determined to change the school for the better.
  • Canon Character All Along: She's eventually revealed to be Mary Poppins near the end of Book 1. Midway through Book 2, she's also shown to be Rosie.
  • Composite Character: Not only is she Mary Poppins, but the "Underworld" arc shows that she's also Rosie of Hazbin Hotel.
  • Connected All Along: "Chapter 107: Resolutions" shows that because she's Rosie, she's an old friend of Alastor and asked him to watch over Luz and Amity while they were in Hell.
  • Dissonant Serenity: No matter the situation, she always remains calm and never reacts.
  • Expy: Of Mary Poppins, sporting a matching wardrobe, hairstyle, attitude on etiquette and even using an umbrella. It later turns out she was Mary Poppins in the past.
  • Familiar: Her palisman is a parrot named Tiki.
  • Heavenly Blue: She has blue eyes, wears a blue dress and lipstick, and she's implied to have magic more powerful than any witch.
  • Heroic Neutral: Julia avoids getting involved in everyone's problems too much, not wanting to risk foiling their growth and independence.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Not only does she scare Luz, Boscha and even Eda, she also seems to be considered terrifying by Trickster Demons, as demonstrated by Kitsuni. In Chapter 83, she does the impossible and actually gets a scream out of the Inner Demon.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: The gaze from them is so piercing, it actually feels like staring at blue fire.
  • I Have Many Names: She currently calls herself "Julia Traveler". She was known as Mary Poppins sometime in the past, and the Baron knew her by a name beginning with "S".
  • Killed Off for Real: Rather ambiguously. She's murdered by Abel in Chapter 133: "Hey! Scouts! Leave Those Kids Alone! Part 2". However, since she's an overlord from Hell, it raises the question of whether she really is dead or not.
  • Magic Staff: It seems to double as an umbrella.
  • Mysterious Past: She's one of the oldest characters in the series and besides her time as Mary Poppins, her origins are still mostly in the dark. This is brought to life by Nicole in "Prelude to War (Part 2)" as she hires several oracles to look into her background and they find nothing about her prior to her employment at Hexside, not even a home address.
  • Nerves of Steel: She always remained calm and poised, especially when she's in a fight.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Every time she has to battle someone, she always wins. She defeated every Glandus teacher she faced in the school war, and she not only kicked the Inner Demon out of Puck's mind, she actually scared him in the process.
  • Older Than They Look: Considering she's been around since the time of Moses, she's existed for around 3,000 years.
  • Real After All: Chapter 38 reveals she's actually the real Mary Poppins.
  • Secretly Wealthy: She's made a lot of money thanks to generous employers, so much that she's able to pay for Hexside's supply budget for the next ten years.
  • There Are No Therapists: She's the reason this trope is averted as of Chapter 26, as she comes to Hexside to help students deal with their emotional baggage.
  • Transplant: Again, she's the real Mary Poppins, not to mention Rosie, an Overlord of Hell.

    Mrs. Pricklethorn

Mrs. Pricklethorn

The teacher of the Plant track.
  • Green Thumb: Being the teacher of the Plant track means she naturally uses such magic.

    Rupert Colt

Rupert Colt

An old friend of Principal Bump who recently became the new groundskeeper. He's in charge of the Beast Keeping Stables.
  • Expy: He's meant to serve as one to Rubeus Hagrid from Harry Potter.
  • Riddle Me This: He often gives out riddles to the students, but they don't really make much sense.

    Ms. Rachelle

Ms. Rachelle

The Illusion track teacher.

Former

    Anu Bist

Anu Bist

The teacher of the Detention track before Kitsuni, who took over from Mr. Bloosky. A genie and a trickster demon, he sought to bring out the best of his student's magical capabilities.
See here for tropes regarding him.

    Professor Blanc
The teacher of the Abomination track before Sheldon Snope, who prefered to play favorites with his students. He loses his job at Hexside due to the Abomination track being temporarily shut down due to a ghost infestation and was replaced with Snope before the new semester.
See here for tropes regarding him.

    Ms. Torigore

Ms. Torigore

The former cow demon teacher of the Healing track, the reason being she made the mistake of making an enemy out of Luz. She was the mother of Asi.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She turns out to be one as she pretended to be supportive of Luz when the reality was she hated having a human in her class and would have loved to kick her out of school if she had the chance.
  • Broken Pedestal: Overhearing her true opinion caused Luz to take revenge and force her into retirement.
  • Character Death: Ms. Torigore dying leads to her son Asi swearing revenge on Luz, studying Healing magic like she wanted at Glandus High to prep for that faithful encounter.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: "Turning Point" reveals that not long after her death, she was killed when she was accidentally sent to a slaughterhouse and sold as cold cuts across the Boiling Isles.
  • Healing Hands: She was the teacher of the Healing track, after all.
  • Killed Offscreen: By the time Asi is introduced, she has already perished.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Once Luz learns that Ms. Torigore doesn't actually like her, she unleashed the Choosy Hat on the teacher, which forces her into retirement.

    Jonathorn Faust

Johnathorn Faust

The principal before Bump who gets his old job back while Bump is in the Healing Coven, until losing a witch's duel to him.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Faust debuts between "Knock, Knock, Knocking on Hooty's Door" and "Eclipse Lake" in present day instead of a flashback in "Them's the Breaks, Kid".
  • The Dreaded: He still retains this trait, as every parent who was a Hexside alumni refuses his help in the war, and even Luz becomes terrified of the guy after she meets him and learns he's filling in for Bump, causing her to retreat to her mindscape to panic for mouthing off to him.
  • Named by the Adaptation: He has no known first name in the parent work.
  • Punny Name: Johnathorn, a combination of "Johnathan" and "Thorn". Admit it, it's funny.

Students

Boscha Hieron

A Potions student who was formerly an enforcer of the "strong rules over the weak" creed at Hexside and was captain of the Banshees and one of Luz's former enemies at Hexside. See here for tropes regarding her.

Celine

An Oracle track student and biped demon who is a Nice Girl.
  • The Ace: Kadabe mentions in "The Glandus War: The Invasion" that Celine is the Top Student of the Oracle Track.
  • Named by the Adaptation: More like "Officially Named", given how she's officially known as "Moon girl" and "Celine" is actually a placeholder name.

    The Shadowy Secret Expozers

The Shadowy Secret Expozers

A group of kids who solve mysteries. They're comprised of Linkin Days, Everscence “Eve” Slipknot, Sioux Bansheeles, Korn Fleabite and the Cerberus sisters, Patti, Blondie and Cyndi.
  • Ascended Extra: Eve has more promonence in the "Human Realm" arc since her disappearance kicks off focus on the Earth side of things. Word of God also confirms she could be the oracle from the Fortune Teller coven in "Covention" with an altered design, making her one of these since she debuted.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Korn and the Cerberus sisters are siblings, and they pair up together during the mystery when they first debut.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Each one of them sports a uniform symbolizing their track: Linkin is brown for construction, Eve has purple for oracle, Sioux dons light blue for illusions, Korn's got the green for the plant track and the Cerberus sisters have the red of bard.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Eve's got shades of this as her bad luck makes her an endearing klutz.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Linkin should have control over stone if he's a constructor.
  • Expy: To the Scooby Gang/Mystery Incorporated.
  • Green Thumb: Korn, being a member of the Plant track.
  • Hot-Blooded: Patti's the most agressive member of the group. Her sisters state she's "kind of a psycho".
  • The Leader: Linkin appears to act as such for the group, but after they reunite and discover that Teri's the Grim Goblin, he passes leadership over to Eve.
  • Lead Singer Plays Lead Guitar: Linkin is the lead singer for the SSE's band and plays guitar when they play at Grom in Chapter 33.
  • Magic Music: The Cerberus sisters are bards, thus giving them this ability.

  • Seers: Eve is an oracle, so she has the magic that they use.
  • Ship Tease: Chapter 109 hints that Sioux has feelings for St. Epidermite Veronica Rex.
  • Shout-Out: Not just to the Scooby Gang, but real people and characters:
    • Linkin, Fred's counterpart, is based off of Dark Arts Beagle from DuckTales (2017) and his name is combined from Linkin Park and Green Day.
    • Eve, Daphne's counterpart, is based off the Hex Maniac Girl from Pokémon and her last name is of the heavy metal band with the same name.
    • Sioux, Velma's counterpart, is based off of Sious and the Banshees.
    • Korn, Shaggy's counterpart, is named after the Nu Metal band Korn and singer Flea.
    • The Ceberus sisters, Scooby's counterpart, are named after singers Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, and Pat Banater.
  • Spanner in the Works: In "No Fooling Around", Eve checks out Philip's diary from the library to crack the mystery of the locket she found. This ends up stalling Luz's plans to use it to make a portal to the human realm.
  • Trapped in Another World: Eve disappears in "After the War" and it isn't until "Chapter 81: Back to the Falls" that it's revealed that she was sent to the Human Realm by the Shapeshifter using his portal. Before being found, she spent a week in Gravity Falls and ended up becoming the gnome queen.
  • We Were Your Team: After Eve disappeared and the team took a serious curb-stomp from the Grim Goblin, they split up. Even after Eve returned home, they've already drifted too far apart to reunite and get back into mystery solving.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: The Shadowy Secrets Expozers, with a "Z" in "exposer".

    Dusty Bring'ems

Dustin "Dusty" Bringems

A kid in the Beastkeeping track, he also collects rare beasts.
  • The Ace: "Chapter 50: Breaking Ties" reveals he's the top student of his track.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Dusty's immortal, so why he would continue posing as a student is beyond the readers.
  • The Beastmaster: Being a beast keeper will do that, with his beast being Cutler, a Sickle Weasel.
  • Butt-Monkey: Nothing seems to go right for the guy. However, he takes everything that's thrown at him and bounces back, making him an Iron Butt Monkey.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The orange of the beastkeeping track is his uniform's color.
  • Connected All Along: "Chapter 111: So IFWOT?" reveals that Dusty has some kind of connection to, of all beings, the Collector. At the very least, it would certainly explain his immortality.
  • Expy: He's the Boiling Isles equivalent of Ash Ketchum. He collects beasts of all kinds, has a rival who's based off of Gary Oak, and is eternally a teenager who returns to Hexside every few years with a different team of beasts.
  • Immortality: "Chapter 93: Nina on the Couch" has him confess to being this to Nina. Chapters prior hinted at this due to his appearing in points prior to his birth and looking the same in each photo depicting such moments.
  • Odd Friendship: Like Tyler, he finds a friend in fellow Beast Keeper Nina Fangs; despite being wronged by her, he's forgiven her by then.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Only Ms. Traveler uses his proper name, "Dustin".

Witch Morty Smith

The grandson of Witch Rick who is in the Potions track.

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: As a potionist, Morty's uniform has yellow sleeves and leggings.
  • Vocal Evolution: As of Chapter 88, Morty now has a different voice with an Australian accent due to drinking one of Rick's voice-changing potions.

    Summer

Summer Smith

The granddaughter of Witch Rick and older sister of Morty who is in the Oracle track.

    Louis

Louis

A biped demon girl in the Illusion track. Her most distinguishing feature is that instead of hair, the top of her head is an open mouth with her tongue acting as bangs.

    Scotty

Scotty "Ginger" Fydas

Another member of the Illusion track.

    Andrea Pinkjoy

Andrea Pinkjoy

A member of the Hexside Banshees Cheer Squad and the Bard track.

  • Dishing Out Dirt: Before the Bard Track, Andrea was a member of the Construction Track and like her sisters, can use earth magic.
  • Expy: She's meant to be a witch version of Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic due to having pink hair, blue eyes, and a habit of surprising people. • Familiar: "House Brooken" reveals her palisman is an alligator named Gumball.

Multi-Track

    Luz

Luz Clawthorne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_luz_book_2_dual_track_uniform.png
Hexside's #1 Delinquent Witch

A human girl raised by Eda the Owl Lady and studies wild magic in order to be a witch. Initially in the Healing track, she was placed in the Detention track for attacking a teacher and joined the Bard track in "Back to Hexside". As of "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?", she's also part of the Beast Keeping track.

See here for tropes regarding her.

    Amity

Amity Goodfellow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_amity_book_2.png
A gifted witch who's the top student in the Abominations Track. She started out as an enemy to Luz and her friends, but befriended them while tutoring, later dating, the human rebel. Midway through Book 1, she was shown to have an aptitude for Illusion magic like her twin siblings and decided to multi-track in it.
See here for tropes regarding her.

    Viney

Vinella "Viney" Potts

A rebellious girl who wants to study two different tracks; Healing and Beast Keeping, which naturally got her in trouble. She's friends with Jerbo and Barcus, like-minded students who were caught mixing different types of magic and placed in the detention track and they would later befriend Luz after she was placed in said track.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Instead of being Ambiguously Gay, Viney is bisexual like Luz here.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her mother calls her "scarshine".
  • Ascended Extra: She and her fellow troublemakers receive much more focus than in canon.
  • But Not Too Bi: Downplayed. Viney is bi, but never showed interest in anybody before dating Emira, which leans more into a case of Single-Target Sexuality than an implied gender preference.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • In addition to mixing magic, Viney got placed in the Detention track because she sicced Puddles on some Beast Keeping students for pulling a secret admirer prank on her. It's also why she's so hesitant to find out who her current secret admirer is.
    • Viney' father died ten years prior to the series in a warehouse explosion caused by an arsonist named Firebees. Ever since that day, she waited for the opportunity to take her vengeance on him.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • She, Jerbo, and Barcus share the spotlight in both "I Ain't Troubled Yet!" and "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?", both chapters expanding on their efforts in multi-tracking with the latter also focusing on her comforting Emira after she moves out of Blight Manor and becoming Skara's Beast Keeping tutor.
    • Viney eventually gets her own time to shine in "Rings of Fire", where she spends the B-plot trying to track down and initially kill the witch responsible for killing her father Arnold.
  • Disappeared Dad: "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?" implies this and it is eventually confirmed in "After the War", which reveals that her dad died when she was young.
  • Given Name Reveal: Her full name, "Vinella", is revealed by Tina in "Rings of Power".
  • Ironic Name: Her name is suited for someone in the Plant track, which isn't one of the tracks she studies.
  • Not So Above It All: She picks up Emira's habit of teasing Amity about her relationship with Luz.
  • Official Couple: Hooks up with Emira after attending Grom together.
  • Out of Focus: She gets hit by this along with Jerbo and Barcus in Book 2, as their characters arcs are wrapped up and they ultimately get axed from the main cast.
  • Private Tutor: Not so private. When Skara joins the Beast Keeping track, she asks Viney to tutor her to get her up to speed and Viney agrees.
  • Punny Name: In addition to being an Ironic Name, her full name is one of "vanilla".

    Jerbo

Jerbo Jeepers

A lanky boy formerly on the plant track. Jerbo was sent to the detention track for using plant magic to create organic abominations; there he met Viney, Barcus and later Luz and the four of them became close friends.
  • Ascended Extra: He and his fellow troublemakers receive much more focus than in canon.
  • Celibate Hero: Aside from dancing with Eileen at Grom, he's one of the only main characters not to be in a relationship or have a love interest, the other being Gus. "No Big Deal" reveals he's staying away from romance until he graduates, not wanting to deal with the drama his friends go through.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He's put under the spotlight in "I Ain't Troubled Yet!", which showcases his and his friends' drive to multi-track, "The Forest of Fear" where he saves Puck from the Greater Basilisk while camping with his family, and "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?", where he helps Amity to relax after all of her recent troubles, such as going nameless.
  • Out of Focus: Like Viney and Barcus, he has his character arc wrapped up which leads to his being removed from the main cast in Book 2.
  • Romantic Wingman: In "Grom: The Musical (Part 2)", Jerbo acts as Barcus' "wing-witch" in helping him ask the Cerberus sisters to dance.
  • Shout-Out: Jerbo's last name, "Jeepers", is the catchphrase of Daphne Blake from the Scooby-Doo franchise.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Jerbo saving Puck's life from the Greater Basilisk led to him going to Amity for help, and their saving Luz and her family from execution.
  • Spanner in the Works: In saving Puck from the Greater Basilisk, Jerbo played an indirect part in helping him save Luz and her family from petrification.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In saving Puck, Jerbo set him up to be killed, resurrected, and being possessed by the Inner Demon for the majority of Book 2.

    Barcus

Barcus Barkowski

A dog demon who was placed in the detention track for using crystal balls from the oracle track in his potions. There, he became close friends with Viney and Jerbo and they would later accept Luz as the fourth member of their group.
  • Ascended Extra: He and his fellow troublemakers receive much more focus than in canon.
  • Crazy-Prepared: As revealed in "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?", Barcus makes predictions every morning to see what disasters he can prevent throughout the day. It really comes in handy for saving Eve's neck without her even knowing it.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He stars alongside Viney and Jerbo in both "I Ain't Troubled Yet!" and "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?" showing his respective beginning and progression in multi-tracking.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: His aura-reading capabilities make him this on a few occasions.
    • In Chapter 30, he senses the Inner Demon within Amity's mind, scared of the "evil, growing infection" that he is.
    • This was his role in the Monster Fighters Club in Chapter 31, as he uses his abilities to tell the difference between a real monster and someone in a costume.
    • He's the first one to notice that Glandus has illusionists posing as Hexside students in Chapter 64.
  • Glowing Eyes: They glow white when he makes his morning predictions.
  • Happily Adopted: His mom's a witch, his dad's a biped fish man and his sister's a cat.
  • In the Hood: He wore a red hoodie as civilian wear in "The Conjuring Conflict".
  • Official Couple: He becomes an item with the Cerberus sisters, Pat, Blondie and Cyndi.
  • Out of Focus: As with Viney and Jerbo, Barcus's character arc is complete by the midway point of Book 2, so he's removed from the main cast.

    Skara

Skara Brooke

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_skara.png

Initially just a Bard tracker and Boscha's former right hand witch, Skara is more friendly to her peers and genuinely cares about all of her friends. In Book 2, she becomes a multi-tracker studying Beast Keeping.

See here for tropes regarding her.

    Edric & Emira Blight

Edric & Emira Blight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_edric_and_emira_pour_ta_geist.png

Amity's older twin siblings who specialize in the Illusion track. They initially start off as pranksters who especially enjoy messing with their younger sister but after learning of her recent troubles, they make a pact to put her first.

General
  • Ascended Extra: The twins are far more prominent in the LCU than they were in canon, each having their own development and storylines.
  • The Atoner: Both of them reach a point where they find their past actions have severe consequences and seek to make up for them.
    • Emira never bothered to befriend any of the kids Odalia forced her to be friends with, scaring them away by pranking them or simply ignoring them. Emira crossed lines when she traumatized Donna by scaring her with an illusion that reminded her of Lupe and never properly breaking up with Tamme, and once she reflects on how she treated them, apologizes to both of them.
    • Edric falls into a bad crowd when he starts dating Mel, ignoring his family and friends to the point that he doesn't care if they get hurt. After Amity saves him and brings him back from the Underworld, Edric starts putting in the effort to repair his relationships with his family.
  • Big Brother Instinct: As per canon, they start being more protective of Amity's well-being once they realize how much pressure and stress she's under.
  • In Spite of a Nail: They both start multi-tracking earlier than canon, but Edric still takes up Beast Keeping and Potions while Emira goes into Healing.

Tropes related to Edric

  • Affectionate Nickname: Both his uncle Geist and Hunter call him "Eddy".
  • Am I Just a Toy to You?: His relationship with Mel ends up having shades of this. After she kidnaps him from his home, Ed begins to see that Mel doesn't consider him as anything more than a pet to keep all to herself. This, combined with his Jerkass Realization, is what leads to him dumping her.
  • Divine Date: He ends up romancing Mel, a half-Fae goddess for two arcs in Book 2.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As much as he likes messing with people, it's implied that Edric draws a line at teasing through flirting to do so, given how he told Emira not to mess with Luz that way.
  • It's All My Fault: At the end of the "Underworld" arc, Edric comes to blame himself for Amity being forced to leave the Demon Realm after Mel outs her as half-Fae. He sees that by telling Mel all of his issues, letting her mess with his friends and not seeing what kind of a bitch she really is, he has a hand in Amity being forced to leave the happy life she built for herself at the Owl House.
  • Love Triangle: He unknowingly has a short-lived one with St. Epidermites Riley Strange and Sarah Atos in Chapter 118: "See the Blight". Riley and Sarah become interested in Ed after learning of his multi-track interests but Sarah lets Riley have a shot at him due to his new rule about not dating people with dark secrets.
  • Official Couple:
    • He spends some time saying he has a boyfriend, and it's eventually confirmed to be Hunter. Upon learning he's the Golden Guard however, Edric dumps him for lying to him and hurting his and Luz's families.
    • Starting from the "Human Realm" arc, he begins seeing a girl named Mel, whom he later discovers is a half-Fae goddess. He eventually dumps her near the end of the "Underworld" arc for kidnapping him and outing Amity as half-Fae.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He goes through one during the "Return to the Boiling Isles" arc, as Mel influences and manipulates him into cutting himself off from his family by praying on his insecurities. It causes him to treat Amity more abrasively and brush both her and the injuries Trini deals Luz during the Bonesborough Brawl off; he does come to his senses after seeing Mel's true colors.

Tropes related to Emira

  • Affectionate Nickname: Her uncle Geist calls her "Emmy".
  • Blue Is Heroic: Emira already wore blue on both of her uniforms, but the "heroic" part comes from her joining the superhero team known as LOWTH with her Ms. Chievious outfit being a mostly blue magician's outfit.
  • Code Name: After joining LOWTH, Emira takes to calling herself "Ms. Chievious" while on duty.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 118: "See the Blight" showcases her side of things during the "Tarot Guild" arc, mostly focusing on Em's having to consider the idea that Odalia wants to do right by their family by joining Raine's new rebellion and dethroning Belos to protect Amity from his anti-Fae dogma.
  • Hates Their Parent: Unlike Edric but on a larger scale from Amity, Emira absolutely resents Alador and Odalia for neglecting their children and forcing her to look after her younger siblings due to their work. She refuses to refer to them as her parents after leaving Blight Manor and doesn't believe they want to change afterward, especially fighting off the idea that Odalia had it worse than the siblings did at their age.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • "Chapter 62: Prelude to War: Part 2" reveals that she's a lot more insecure that she lets on; she fears she'll end up alone and she had a habit of smoking when she was younger. She also admits a small part of her resents Amity because of how much she had to take care of her and Edric since their parents were too busy.
    • In "The Errands in the Willows", it's mentioned by Amity that Emira was on the Banshees cheer squad when she was on the grudgby team. Em herself admits to Nina in "See the Blight" that she didn't actually want to be on the squad as Odalia forced her to join, so she threw a competition and quit soon after.
  • Official Couple: After spending a portion of Book 1 unable to work up the nerve, she eventually asks Viney out.
  • The Resenter: "Prelude to War: Part 2" shows she harbors some resentment towards Amity because she spent her whole life taking care of her siblings due to her parents being busy with their work. While Emira does admits a part of her feels this way to Amity, she also regrets having these feelings and wants to be a better person than who she used to be in her youth.
  • Shout-Out: Em's Ms. Chievious costume is based off of Zatanna and Tuxedo Mask.

  • Red Mage: She utilizes her two types of magic for the school war, creating casts made from abomination goo to heal her fellow students. With Prof. Snope's encouragement, she returns to the Abomination track while dual-tracking in Healing.
  • Romantic False Lead: Deconstructed and subverted. At first, Lambi seems to have been set up as a temporary fling for Nina before she gets together with Donna. However, Nina becomes disillusioned with who Donna is as a person and finds that Lambi has all the qualities she thought Donna would have. Because of this, Nina moves on from her childhood friend and officially hooks up with Lambi.

  • The Worf Effect: Simon's as much of his own tough customer as they come, so defeating him is about as much of an easy feat as taking down Luz in a fight.
    • In "Glandus War: The Invasion", Simon ended up in a duel against Cain who defeated his younger brother in a duel of perseverence. Simon was still able to recover and take down Cain in a rematch.

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Befitting his Bard status, his leggings and sleeves are red.

  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: She works to be as well-known a reporter as her mother and is always looking for a scoop, but she works so hard because she just wants her mother to acknowledge her.

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Since she's an oracle, her uniform would be purple.
  • The Corrupter: In "Chapter 111: So IFWOT?", Felicia convinces Donna to date Cross in order to make Nina jealous, likely to get a story out of it.

  • Monster of the Week: She serves as a one-time villain in "Whatever Happened to Anu Bist?", in which she exposes Amity as a nameless witch.
  • Must Make Amends: After Amity's exposed as half-Fae and is forced to leave the Isles, Felicia agrees to help Luz take Arthur and Destiny down in "The Errands in the Willows", seeing it as a chance to make up for outing Amity as nameless.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: Her lying to Donna about dating and suggesting the healer use Cross to make Nina jealous and lands her in hot water with both of them. This results in Donna disowning Felicia as a friend for the time being as of "The Alchemist's Mutant Mayhem".
  • Secret Chaser: Felicia always uses her ghosts to sniff out stories by spying on people, which is how she learned Amity was nameless since one of them overheard her telling Jerbo about it. "So IFWOT?" hints that Cross is wary of her because she can't keep out of other people's business.
  • Seers: She's an oracle and often, she uses her spirits to find scoops.
  • Sell-Out: She tends to fall into this on a regular basis. She becomes the manager of the Emerald Entrails to sponsor and create merchandise based on them and ran an ad for the Boiling Isles Guardians during her interview with Donna as Wonder Witch.
  • You Owe Me: Since Felicia outed Amity as nameless, Luz makes her her informant on whatever she asks about and as payment, she gives Felicia scoops that she barely gives any details about. • Toxic Friend Influence: He and his friends become this to Gus for a while until he learns their true colors.
  • Uniformity Exception: Since the rest of the Abomination track students are all multi-trackers, Gavin's the only single-track student in the class now.

  • Toxic Friend Influence: He and his friends were this to Gus for a while until they messed with him.

  • Fantastic Racism: Has a great bigotry towards werecats, and once tried to use Nina hurting Amelia as an excuse to justify insulting her.
  • Unseen No More: Jeremy was once off-handedly mentioned all the way back in "Double, Double, Tutor and Trouble".

Baby Class

    Moose Harwitch

Moose Harwitch

Cat's younger brother. Oddly enough, he has the personality of a grumpy old man.
  • Ambiguous Situation: There's no explanation as to why he acts older than he is. The closest hint to one comes in the sidetrack "Cat's Jubilee", where Cat says he acts like their deceased grandpa Goat, who perished the day before Moose was born.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The discovery that he's the descendant of a human means he's partially human himself.

    Scabrina Brooke

"Golly Gee!"
As of "Family Group Therapy"

A student in the Oracle track, she sees herself as Amity's rival and will do anything to take her down. It's later revealed that she made a deal with the Inner Demon to preserve her youth.

  • Big Bad Wannabe: She was a loyal helper to the Inner Demon and attempts to usurp Boscha as an antagonist only to fall short when karma took a sledgehammer to her plans.
  • Creepy Child: Let's see: wants to usurp the coven system, has a Frankenstein-like butler, talks to her doll (which turns out to be her link to the Inner Demon.) Yep, it all fits.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: She initially wore the purple sleeves and leggings of the oracle track. As of Book 2, they're the gray of the detention track.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: With how Book 1 ends, it seems Dolly's being set up to replace Boscha as the main enemy at Hexside. However, she's only given one more evil moment before being brushed aside, ultimately defeated and forgotten about.
  • The Dragon: She becomes the henchgirl for the Inner Demon.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When Dolly is introduced, she lists off her dreams of graduating, working for the Emperor's Coven, usurping the Coven system and then working in the Underworld. After that, she talks to her doll.

  • Laser-Guided Karma: Once it's revealed that she orchestrated Luz and Amity's breakup, let Skara believe it was all her fault and tried to make Boscha take the fall, Willow, Viney, Amelia and Cat beat her up and leave her hanging by a vine in a tree. She's then betrayed by the Inner Demon, who turns her into a doll and leaves her to be used as a chew toy for a demon dog.
  • Secondary Color Nemesis: Being an oracle, she wears purple and actively antagonizes Amity.
  • Seers: As an oracle, she has access to spirit summoning.
  • Ship Tease: "The Last Stand" shows her to have feelings for fellow oracle and Glandus top student Kadabe.

A bully in the Construction track who usually targeted Gus.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: He was a Beast Keeping track student in the show.
  • Adaptation Species Change: He was a regular witch in the show. Here, he eventually gets mutated into a chimera-like being by Sonya Mera.
  • The Bully: He acted as Gus'along with his cronies until he was chased off by Luz 4 years ago. Following the petrification ceremony, he tries to be this again, but Gus isn't afraid of him anymore.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: He's got the brown uniform of the construction track.
  • Facial Horror: In "Turning Point", he is hit in the face with an acid bomb and the right side of it melts down to the bone. After being mutated by Sonya, he now has abomination matter covering it.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While fighting Gus and Boscha in the Glandus War, he brings up the fact that Luz is a magnet for trouble (even though it never affected him unless he messed with Gus).
  • Laser-Guided Karma: For siding with Glandus in the school war, telling Emily to kidnap Gus to bait Luz, and trying to attack Gus, Horace gets half his face burned off in "Glandus War: Turning Point" due to one of Cooker's acid bombs after Gus tricks them with an illusion.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The Owl House wiki simply lists him as "Thin Hexside Student".
  • No Name Given: It's a Running Gag that his last name is usually left unknown. JP eventually revealed it: he has none.
  • The Quisling: At the end of "Prelude to War (Part 3)", he defects from Hexside and joins Glandus High so he can give the top students advice to take down Luz, not caring what happens to his former school.
