Unless there's a clash, year seems to be the preferred way to disambiguate comics.

Creator is already used in various places, too — but I am wary of using writer name for any series that's still in progress, as none of this is creator-owned and creative teams sometimes change abruptly.

Do we have any cases where those two things combine to mean that we need a different disambig?

The only one I can think of is the 2023 Flash comic, as that conflicts with the movie.

I'm very "if it ain't broke, don't fix". While years are generally the "first choice" while disambiguating, all these pages seem to be chugging along fine from a glance. Is there anything bad about the current system that would make all these moves (not just modside, the wicks will have to be transferred over and everything) worth it?

~Mrph1 could probably explain it better, but the idea is that because these are specific volumes, we are trying to move the formatting away from eras to volumes. That’s why the years work better. This would also help on a standardization and indexing level.

For an example, let’s take Superman (Rebirth). First off that’s not the actual title, but second the page is actually about the fourth volume of Superman, launched in 2016 and ending in 2018. And on a standardization level, every volume of Superman is as follows on the site.

Now the sub runs need to be looked at later down the line, the era title scheme doesn’t fit with the rest of the works.

Hopefully that explains it a bit.

"Not actual title" is a concern from a policy perspective, although when it's clearly a disambig it's less of an issue.

If, say, a series is branded as part of the "Rebirth" era from start to finish, that's one thing. If the relaunch event is branded as "Rebirth" but that's then dropped and the series continues without it for years, I'd personally be uncomfortable keeping it when another disambig option exists.

I'm not a DC expert, but looking at these pages many seem to be somewhere between the two extremes - e.g. Detective Comics mentions that it ran for 2—3 years and the "Rebirth" branding was dropped for the later portion of the run.

(Mod hat off)
