Per Ask The Tropers, this thread will be used to reduce the number of old, poorly written drafts on the Trope Launch Pad. We don't want to discuss on the drafts themselves because that will bump them and mix them with active proposals.
Sandbox for the project: Trope Launch Pad Discard Project
Sandbox for discarded drafts but viable ideas: Trope Idea Salvage Yard
The first sandbox page above contains drafts proposed in the thread that are still pending and drafts that we've decided to leave alone, either with no action or a bump.
The second sandbox page is for awful drafts but viable ideas. According to moderators, badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts should remain on the TLP. Rather than allow low-effort drafts to clog TLP, though, the salvage yard was opened to keep just the ideas behind them, in one place.
On this thread, we will mention which drafts we think are unworkable, add enough bombs, and discard (nuke) them. Discarding requires at least 5 bombs. Among the features of "unworkable" drafts:
- There have been no edits for a very long time, or at all
- The draft is low-effort, containing atrocious spelling and grammar and/or little to no examples, e.g. NEVER saw THAT coming (!), Nut-Chuks
- The draft was seemingly created so the sponsor could complain
- The topic is People Sit on Chairs, Too Rare to Trope, a search query created by mistake, etc. and therefore not tropeworthy
- The topic is already sufficiently covered by one or more tropes or is a duplicate of a better-written TLP draft
- The draft is problematic in other ways, such being closely tied to a page that has been historically problematic, e.g. Fetish Fuel, Complete Monster
- There's no discussion currently occurring in the comments to improve the proposal
If we decide to discard a draft after discussion via this thread, whoever does so must provide the discard reason in the comment section of the draft, for transparency's sake. Those looking at the discards section won't think it was nuked for no reason.
Also, check out the sister project, Trope Adoption Drive, where good drafts put Up for Grabs or abandoned can be grabbed, given a bit more improvement, and launched.

Streaker and Universal On/Off Switch have both been nuked.

Choking Gasp: Abandoned no examples draft. -
Multi-Man Montage: Abandoned no examples draft. -
Clean and Dirty Instruments: Abandoned draft with no activity since its making and few examples. -

CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesI've nuked Choking Gasp.
Spoofy the Dinosaur should be deleted as it was merged into Kids' Show Mascot Parody.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.-

But Not Too Fluent: This seems to be covered by As Long as It Sounds Foreign. -
Cthulhu All Along: One-line wonder covered by Cosmic Horror Reveal. -
Disney Evil: Decade-old unformatted draft without a clear definition. -
Fanboy Fight: In-Universe Fandom Rivalry. -

Empathy Over Reason: The one-liniest wonder. -
Final Blow Turned Big Damn Kiss: One-line wonder. -
Have I Mentioned I Am A Dwarf Today?: Duplicate of the existing trope with the same name. -

I should note that all of the drafts I post here are abandoned, as I'm going forward through the TLP backlog and I'm in the "last touched in 2012" section right now.
-
Don't Make Me Do What I'm Doing has a stock phrase name and no description, but could maybe be yarded. -
Everybody is Ambidextrous is a nitpicky one-line wonder. -
Flavor Country is From Bad to Worse with an awful name. -
Have You Even Met Me is a fire-and-forget draft with a stock phrase name. -
Improbably Old Military is nitpicking about the apparent age of soldiers. -
Ordinary People Are Awesome has one example that's light on context and a very barebones description. -
Schrodinger's Shiptease is Ship Tease. -
Shoulder Snark has no examples. -
Stamp of authenticity refers to the holographic stickers that are used by some old VHS tapes and some trading card games to guarantee the product's authenticity, which really isn't a trope. -
The Town Shuts Down has only one example, but it could be worth yarding.

-
Makeup of Maturity: A draft full of ZCEs and with a rambling description, but might be yardable. -
Hit The Books: Poorly formatted draft that just boils down to "The Smart Guy does research". -
Gaydar Kiss is probably covered by the more-recent Gay Test draft. We can probably merge them and discard this one. - Correspondence By Post is "Characters write Letters and this is Important". There might be some actual trope ideas to yard from this, but I think this one is too broad.
- Outlaw to Soldier Upgrade: Another draft that might need to be yarded. It's in poor condition, but the idea seems solid.
-
Action Movie Ghetto: A trope full of ZCE that, judging by the comments, is at risk of being complaint-bait. -
Too Bad at Acting Good is covered by Out-of-Character Alert. -
Almost Competent: Abandoned, awfully formatted draft, that might have a yardable idea. -
Continuity Cross-Contamination: Instantly abandoned draft with no comments. It's also a Continuity Trope, which means it's hard for me to tell if it's covered or not. -
Legacy Suit Upgrade: A one-paragraph stub with the examples hidden inside said paragraph. Instantly abandoned, never commented on. -
Greener Pastures: An abandoned, example-less stub that's troping reality and seems like complaint-bait. -
Nowhere Is Safe: A stubby, abandoned draft, but might be yardable. -
Rifted/ The Half Wolf/ The Wolfhound: Poorly formatted abandoned draft with no proper examples or comments, and I feel like it's covered by something else. -
Power Fade-Out: Abandoned stub with no examples. - Understands only one emotion: Abandoned with no comments. The description and the examples don't seem to match, with the examples just being things like "This character is happy a lot".

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness-
Fart of death was immediately abandoned, has a very barebones description, and only has one good example. -
Flashback Revelation is a one-line wonder that's covered by The Summation. -
Hemingway Expy, aside from being pretty low effort, is another subtrope of Fountain of Expies that we probably don't need, plus it lists Hemingway from Midnight in Paris as an expy of himself. -
Imperial Outpost Under Threat is a one-line wonder. -
Living Bonds was immediately abandoned, has a very barebones description, and none of its examples have much context. -
Manufactured Breakout Character is nothing but complaining bait. -
Misplaced High School Teacher has no examples and was immediately abandoned after a bit of serial tweaking. -
Pigs must be terrifying is a one-line wonder. -
Sailing is freedom! was immediately abandoned, only has two examples, and uses HTML formatting instead of wiki markup, but it could be yarded. -
They're Sloths and They're Evil... sounds like another one of those chairsy "<animal> portrayed as good/evil" drafts, except it's absurdly broad, defining itself as "<animal> portrayed as evil, where <animal> can be any species that most people don't typically think of as evil or dangerous".
Edited by Serac on Apr 30th 2021 at 9:23:44 AM
Admittedly, a trope for "Animals Not Typically Portrayed as evil, shown to be Evil" might be viable, but that draft sucks anyway.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessIn other news, I feel like we should run through the Trope Idea Salvage Yard and clear it out some. Make sure nothing on there has been given a new trope draft, and that everything is viable. It's become a large mess of a page and I'd like to cut down on it. I'm suggesting it here since this is the project that spawned it, plus we can also add new concepts while we're at it.
Edited by WarJay77 on Apr 30th 2021 at 4:31:28 AM
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness^^^ I was sure we had a trope for scary pig masks, as described in the "Pigs must be terrifying" stub. Apparently we really don't. I'd Yard it, but...
^ ...are we refraining from anything new to the Yard until it's cleaned out?
The "human-like Mons" concept seems viable, as the main issue with the draft was the proposer never adding examples. I'll see to making a new draft in the next few days when I have time to spare.
I don't actually have any Bumblebee icons, I just think the nickname is funny. We can keep adding things! I just feel like it might be worth a skim through to make sure everything that's there belongs there. Some of the concepts might've been taken already, and some of the additions might not be as viable as people thought, though I'd honestly prefer to just look for the "already drafted and launched" ones.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessAll the tropes on this page of the thread that weren't crossed out before this postnote have all been nuked.
Edited by Shadow8411 on Apr 30th 2021 at 12:04:50 PM
I went through the "Ideas without a source draft" section and deleted a number of entries, mostly for the same reasons we'd delete tropes here (Chairs, redundant/not meaningfully distinct from/Playing With existing tropes, etc.). Others were already tried and failed as drafts, and I also got rid of a few title and/or index ideas because they came off as either covered or...well, unnecessary.
I honestly think a bunch of others can still go, but I tried to get rid of the ideas that seemed more like one person's offhand brainstorming than ideas with a genuine chance of actually happening.
Edited by HeavyMetalHermitCrab on Apr 30th 2021 at 12:45:28 PM
Mostly looks good, though I'm wondering why you got rid of the "Teacher-Teacher Romance" one? Was it because it was two concepts under the same bullet? Because I added that one, and I've seen it enough to think it's a legit trope, but I want to hear your take.
Another one I added that I want to know the deletion reason for is "Dissenter Is Always Right". It's not just an Inversion of The Complainer Is Always Wrong; again, I've noticed it often enough, where the one person who speaks out against the others is proven right in the end.
Other than those two (which admittedly, I have bias about), I agree with your cuts. The potential for disagreement though is why I suggested we, as a thread, go through the list- so it's not just one person's opinion against another.
We might want to move this off-thread btw, like to the discussion page, just so we can stop derailing this one.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessTeacher-Teacher Romance, to me, says "Office Romance but in a school". It could be a subtrope, though — the examples certainly exist — and I won't throw a fit if you want me to add it back.
The only real reason I deleted The Dissenter Is Always Right is because it seemed like an inversion of The Complainer Is Always Wrong, but again, I'm not going to get mad either way. It was just a quick run-through of the Yard.
Yeah, I do honestly think "Dissenter" is different enough to not just be an inversion, as it usually depicts characters opposing mob-mentality or thinking outside-the-box and being proven right as a result.
Again, this is why I'd like more discussion before we do more cleanups, just to make sure the concepts we're cutting do deserve to be cut. I'll add those ones back now, thanks ~
To get this thread back on track, I'll be back next post with some bomb-bait.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've split off a new thread.: Sorting Out the Salvage Yard
Found a big batch by going to the back of the pile:
-
X of Solitude is covered by tropes like Sanctuary of Solitude and Bad Mood Retreat. Plus it's a 2-line wonder. -
A Welcome To The Afterlife is Afterlife Welcome. -
Mistaken For Stolen might be covered by Mistaken for Thief. Even if it's not, the draft is a 2-line wonder. -
Lamenting a Living Relative: I'm pretty sure this one is covered too...Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated, maybe? -
Chaste Action Heroine is a trope-in-aggregate where most of the comments are just bickering over if it's covered by Chaste Hero or not. The examples are already attracting things like "Buffy subverts this trope". -
Picked Up Squatters In The Great Beyond: Overly long title and has no proper description, but might be yard worthy if it's not covered by other tropes. - Fake Out Love Interest sounds like it's Romantic False Lead. It also claims it might be "subjective", but I'm not sure what that would mean in this case.
-
There Goes the Irony: Abandoned draft with some non-examples and no examples in the comments. The comments are more concerned over the title. -
Had The Fish For Dinner: A trope about people getting food-sickness, but with a bad title, a narrow focus on "important" people, and ZCE examples. -
No Need To Apologize: Stock-Phrasey, and boils down to "Apology is Interrupted". Also, only example is a quote-based ZCE. -
Fake Snow and Ice: A one line wonder that boils down to "Special Effects Failure, but for snow". -
Stock Ghosts: Probably covered by Our Ghosts Are Different, and has no examples. -
Not The Grandfather Clock: Stock-Phrase trope with no examples. -
RewardedWithExile is probably covered by a variety of other tropes, has no examples, and was very quickly abandoned. -
Flying/Floating Fortress might be covered by things like Airborne Aircraft Carrier and Ominous Floating Castle. -
Ricochet Bicuit: Misspelled name, rambling non-description, covered by Vertigo Effect. -
Airforce Secrets Equals Aliens: Stub draft, instantly put Up For Grabs, and likely covered.
Edited by WarJay77 on May 1st 2021 at 9:56:33 AM
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI felt like gathering a bigger batch this time, since there were a lot of garbage drafts all right near each other in the TLP backlog.
-
Approaching Face Fadeout is a misplaced trope finder query. -
Dragging Up For Your Straight Love... is a one-line wonder. -
Drowning A Fish is covered by Impossible Task and Achievements in Ignorance, and it only has real life examples listed. -
Even Bad Guys Like The Blues is about a very specific part of a Bad Guy Bar. -
Here One Scene, Gone The Next is nitpicking about bad editing in addition to being a zero-effort stub. -
How to Handle Being Made Fun Of: The entire text of the draft is "Do We Have This One?" -
Improvements are Evil is Childhood Memory Demolition Team. -
Lady Casanova is just "The Casanova, but female". Given that Maneater redirects there and we have The Vamp for evil examples, I'd say it's covered already. -
Loading Screen Tips already has its own section on Loading Screen. -
My Parents Took Me Camping Here has no description and no formatting for its two examples. -
Pain Fail has no description and is probably covered by No-Sell. -
Partner Power is as low-effort as they come, and it's covered by The Power of Friendship anyway. -
A Patient With This Condition is an instantly abandoned stock phrase with more effort put into its TLP tags than its example context. -
Ridiculous Robots is a very low-effort draft with a bad title and no examples. -
Sentient Earth Christian is Flat-Earth Atheist. -
Super Starch is Power Makes Your Hair Grow.
Edited by Serac on May 2nd 2021 at 5:01:42 AM
- All of the drafts you brought up have been nuked, including Sentient Earth Christian.
- All of the drafts you brought up have been nuked, apart from Fake Out Love Interest.

Let's get some more nonviable drafts in here:
-
Byronic Wannabe kid: Abandoned with no examples. -
Climax Vulnerability: Decade-old abandoned and unformatted draft. Could go to the Yard. -
Devine bet, devine test, experiment: Instantly abandoned and unformatted. -
Field Executioner: Decade-old abandoned stub. -
Ghost Sheath: Abandoned stub with no examples. -
Hix Nix Stix Pix: Decade-old one-line wonder, partially covered by Punny Headlines. -
No One Can Earn A Degree On Screen: Long abandoned, and all of the examples are either aversions or fall under Not Allowed to Grow Up. -
The Only Funny Animal: Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My! -
Romantic Dreamer: Abandoned stub with no examples, possibly covered by existing tropes. -
Small Town Female Sheriff: Abandoned stub, and if "women are sheriffs sometimes" is a trope, I don't see it. -
Space Junk: One-line wonder. -
Sunbrella: Abandoned stub, but there may be a glimmer of a trope here, i.e. "vampires and other creatures of darkness use parasols to keep the sun off". -
Take a Risk, Get a Reward: Decade-old abandoned stub. -
Too Much Of A Good Thing: Decade-old abandoned stub with no in-draft examples. Could go to the Yard if we don't have it already. -
Unwitting Disguise Breaker: Decade-old abandoned stub, but a valid concept. Discard and Yard.Yarded. -
Wild Guess Ends Up Correct: Abandoned stub.
