I support splitting the trope. There's something predatory sounding about the Wolf bit that doesn't seem appropriate for just an impressed whistle. Wolf-whistling in interest or approval is mentioned by the other wiki (perhaps the trope can be added to We Are Not Alone Index), but the the article also states that the whistle is a two-note glissando, i.e. the "hweee-wooo!" sound has to be present, while Wolf Whistle seems not to require that. Of the examples on the page,
- how many use the two-note glissando in a sexual manner,
- how many use the two-note glissando in a non-sexual manner,
- how many don't use the glissando (just any other whistle sound) in a sexual manner, and
- how many don't use the glissando in a non-sexual manner?

Oh, jeepers. Sorting by sexual and non-sexual examples is easy. But due to lazy editors being vague in their text descriptions, sorting by two-note glissando and the other whistles is going to be tougher.

Are we suggesting that whistling is a trope in and of itself? Because I have some serious doubts about that.
Anyway, if we want to change Wolf Whistle, we need TRS. If we want to TLP a new trope about non-sexual whistles, then go nuts, although I've already said I don't think it's going to work out.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I don't think whistling is a trope in and of itself, I was specifically looking for a trope for awed whistling, which would have been on the Character Reaction Index, and I saw that the closest thing we have to what I had in mind was Wolf Whistle.
That said, thanks for pointing me to Trope Repair Shop to take a look at Wolf Whistle. Based on Tabs's wick check, I think they wouldn't have to do much, just tweak the description a little after I see if I can get an "awed whistle" draft through the Trope Launch Pad. That's my plan, I'm asking around on here to see if it's worth starting.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight. Here's the Trope Launch Pad draft I started. Would it be a better idea to run the Trope Repair Shop thread for Wolf Whistle simultaneously with developing this draft, or after the draft is launched?

So, while looking for characters whistling at cool explosions, I noticed that Wolf Whistle doesn't exclude non-sexual examples. Should it? I'm thinking of starting a Sister Trope on Trope Launch Pad for the purpose of getting all the non-sexual examples off of Wolf Whistle and into their own trope.
