There Is No B In Movie is intended to be about characters watching B-movies to demonstrate the character's traits - generally because they don't have many standards, or because they consider it So Bad, It's Good. However, it's often used for any time someone watches a B-movie. The other use is when the B-movie has symbolism or parallels to the actual work, which may be foreshadowing. In some of the characters who watch B-movies fit the stereotype, but that is not demonstrated in the example itself.

The trope tends to attract Zero Context Examples as well. I believe that misuse of this trope is due to the title, since all that can be taken from it is simply "B-movie".

How about we send this to TLP and get it fixed there?

What do we do specifically?

The description is rambling and tries to cover too much ground, IMO. "Watching B movies as a signature pastime of shallow (or even nerdy?) characters" sounds like a trope worth having. A rename would be in order to curb misuse.

The trope is misused a lot. If it's renamed, would "B-Movie Fan" work, or should it be something else?

[up] I can get behind that name idea.

I'm going to suggest Unabashed B-Movie Fan, to emphasize that the character's fondness isn't a Guilty Pleasure, regardless of whether the character thinks it's So Bad, It's Good or legitimately good.

Do the examples need to be something that defines a specific character? For example, Gravity Falls S2 E2 "Into the Bunker" has this:

  • Theres No B In Movie: The episode opens with Dipper and Wendy watching a cheap zombie movie, Nearly Almost Dead But Not Quite!. The Stinger shows promos of additional movies for Gravity Falls Bargain Movie Showcase.

If we need a slightly broader name than one referring to a single fan, then I'll slightly modify my suggestion to Unabashed B Movie Fandom.

[up][up] The example doesn't indicate a narrative purpose for the action of watching this type of media.

[up] The narrative value I can think of is if the movie has some sort of parallel to the work it's in, or if it's an example of Stylistic Suck, both of which don't need to be about B-movies.

Anyway, I think referring to a single fan is okay, so something along the lines of Unabashed B-Movie Fan sounds alright.

Disagree with Unironic B Movie Fan, because this trope also covers people watching things that are So Bad, It's Good or to make fun of them. I would consider these ironic forms of appreciation.

Unabashed B-Movie Fan excludes those who have it as a guilty pleasure.

^ Correct. We want to avoid making this an umbrella trope for different characterizations. I would prefer a more straight forward trope title like "B-Movie Means Uncultured".

The crowner's been up since late April. I think it's safe to call in favor of Unabashed B-Movie Fan (the visible options are messed up, but the history still works).

[up]Someone may have voted and changed that, as both that and B-Movie Fan have 8 votes in favor and 2 against currently.

Changed my vote on Unabashed to try to break the tie.

Still too close to call, so I'll give it more time.

Seeing as to how Unabashed got a couple yea votes, changed my vote back to a yea. I'll give it one more day and see how it goes.
