It makes me laugh, and I think that the main characters’ relationship is sweet. There's a freewheeling joy to the world and its dedication to that grimy, lo-fi aesthetic that I find charming, and perhaps more than anything else I think Johnny Pemberton’s voice work as Peanut is what makes it for me. Dude is a bouncy ball of energy and he nails the “ambitiously stupid/stupidly ambitious” vibe that Peansie was born to have.
It’s not for everyone, but I love it. Admittedly, the first time I saw the show my own reaction was a dumbfounded confusion more than anything else, but it grew on me a lot. I also have mad respect for the fact that it knew how divisive it was going to be but didn’t feel the need to rein itself in at all to appeal to a bigger audience; in that regard, it’s a lot like another show I dig, 12 oz. Mouse. They’re both profoundly, uncompromisingly weird pieces of animation and incredibly fun for an oddball like me as a result.
