Leverage was a great show...I watched all five seasons, and while the concept did became a little bit stale towards the end, they went out on a very high note. One of the rare cases in which a show found the right jumping point.

White Collar is just fun - but greatly acted fun. I think that Matt Bomer is the best actor currently on American TV (and no that has nothing to do with his good looks, they are just a bonus). It had some hick-ups along the way, but it still manages to surprise me from time to time. I hope they announce sixth season soon.

My current rec is Vikings, though...second season starts this month, so there is still time to catch up.

[up]If you want crime drama with good humour, and don't mind a fairly substantial bodycount, check out Justified. It's got some of the best writing on TV (one Scrappy aside), and makes excellent use of character actors, many of whom don't normally get starring roles.

[up][up]I highly recommend White Collar...especially since I hope for good ratings for the next season, just to show USA Network the middle-finger for treating the show like the unwanted stepchild just because it is a little bit more expensive.

For intense thrillers: If you have a strong stomach and like crime dramas where every scene of cruel carnage and murder is filmed with a loving eye and artistic style, Hannibal is excellent. It's also in serious need of more viewers, especially since NBC stuck it in the Friday Night Death Slot. Also nightmare fuel food porn.

There's a new HBO drama series "The Leftovers" that's going to premiere on June 29, 2014. I'm going to look forward to it because, well, as a Doctor Who fan, I've read that Christopher Eccleston is going to be in that series! wink

I was scanning the pages and I was noticing that there is a page for Sheena, the 1984, but not for the 2000-2002 television show. Is there a way to add this there? There are so many tropes in the television series as there was in the film.

If you want a cheesy 90's sitcom, Sabrina the Teenage Witch will satisfy. It also is a great source of pop-cultural references, and is fortified with talking cats!

Is there a list somewhere of the best/most influential TV shows of each year/decade?

I want a completed show that has consistent quality throughout season and ends in a right timing.

My favorite shows include Band of Brothers, Breaking Bad, The Wire, and I'm currently watching Person of Interest and Sherlock. That said, it doesn't have to be necessarily crime or war themed; I'll take any show from any genre.

I recommend Southland. While the show was canceled prematurely, it still has a serviceable ending, and has very strong characterization. I've heard it referred to as one of the most realistic cop shows ever made.

Here's a short list of...anything really, that I'd recommend.

24, Angel, Arrow, Blue Heelers, Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, Bully Beatdown, Hell's Kitchen, Hotel Hell, Las Vegas, Sons of Anarchy, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Underbelly and X Men Evolution.

Oh you want context of why these are good? Okay, 24 came at just the right time in light of September 11 in bringing us War on Terror TV, high drama, lots of twists and turns, consistently engaging, and gave us a character the likes we may never see again.

Angel, basically if you liked Buffy you will enjoy this slightly different, more mature take on the themes addressed on the show, more about saving souls than killing the Big Bad to save the world.

Arrow is manly enough to appeal to men and those after a action orientated series, yet sensitive enough to address the drama of the series, case in point how late in season one the villain accepts losing the girl and how the characters deal with the season finale.

Blue Heelers, as told by more than one Friend on the Force, is as real as it gets (at least until it thought it was Criminal Minds) so if you're into crime drama, procedural, detective stories you'll like this. If on the other hand you prefer a Crime Time Soap then you'll be pleased to know that the writers saw early this is what the fans wanted and they delivered.

Bullshit has the two stage magician superstars tear apart any number of conspiracies, myths and hoaxes in a in your face, confronting and entertaining way.

Bully Beatdown. What needs to be said. Professional MMA fighters taking on these thugs on behalf of their victims.

With Hells Kitchen, take Bully Beatdown and apply it to the kitchen where you see some of the worse dregs put through the wringer.

Hotel Hell, again you see Gordon Ramsay tear into some of the worst hotel owners he can find. For that matter, Kitchen Nightmares should be looked at as well, at least the infamous Amy's Baking Company episodes.

Las Vegas had that right mix of action, humor, drama and warmth that makes some of the best shows out there. Unlike a series like Buffy it doesn't take itself too seriously but when things get real you care about the characters in the show.

Sons of Anarchy is a show that grips you by the throat from the first episode and when you come to terms with how confronting it is and how some of the characters act ("I suggest turning to Jesus," fans will get that and if you watch the first episode I'd be amazed if you're not shocked at what happens) you start thinking about them as a person, what they do, the fallout and where the series goes from here.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles adds a layer of depth to the Terminator mythos and gives us a strong cast of characters, good humor, plenty of action and a lot of drama revolving around Sarah trying to raise her son to be a soldier, the bonding between John and Cameron is touching, and there is that air of mystery (such as when Cameron seemingly manipulates John) that leaves you wondering whether she can be trusted.

Underbelly confronts the Melbourne gangland war head on, a high octane thrill ride that makes the Sons look tame in comparison, but this really happened.

Last but not least an animated work, and one that if you look on the site Marvel themselves have on Youtube so there's no excuse not watching it. This was released at the same time as the films and the thought and level of detail that went into the story is impressive, it's very much an Ultimate or alternate take that has strong writing, strong characters and strong plot and development. It also introduces X23 as an all round Bad Ass and a much better introduction than the forgettable Nyx series.

Can anyone recommend me a tv show to watch next? Only conditions are that it must be a drama (but an actual one, not a dramedy) and preferably with a bromance in it (I like friendships much better than romance/sex). Shows like this I've watched already and recommend are (in no particular order):

Supernatural True Detective Breaking Bad Gotham Manhattan Bates Motel Hemlock Grove Revolution The Following House, M.D. Sherlock In Treatment The Missing (apparently has no tropes page)

For anyone interested in a good dramedy / light drama / procedural, I'd recommend:

Suits HawaiiFive0 White Collar Merlin Halt and Catch Fire Criminal Minds Shameless

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask (sorry for cross posting on live action film- pretty sure it is part of a series)

but I'm looking for an older show i remember having seen... It was on TV, I felt like it was an outer limits episode, but have checked them all...

The ruling class had become subordinate to the lower class and had to allow the people of the lower class to be ahead of them in everything, to make up for what their ancestors had done to the lower class. Anyone know this show???

Felt it had to be a trope lol would love to explore that and to revisit the episode thanks in advance

Is there a 'Sell Me On [this series, book, movie, game, etc]' thread? Like if I want to know whether or not I want to start or continue with a show (Arrow past season 1, for instance) but want to avoid spoilers, is there a specific topic for that?

Does anyone know any sitcoms that have similar humor to The Office or Parks and Recreation?

I was recommended Community and Arrested Development before but they just aren't funny to me.

I started watching Cape Town. It's like True Detective in South Africa. It's a Film of the Book (based on South African crime novel "Dead Before Dying" by Deon Meyer), and oddly enough the series were originally written in German, then translated to English in order to reach a wider market. Even weirder thing? It seems to air in Poland only, worse yet - with the usual obnoxiously loud voiceover instead of subtitles.

Hi.

Looking for a sci-fi show like Firefly. I had to quit watching Dark Matter because of the whole amnesiac criminal thing, Regarding Henry Bullcrap. I also like Star Trek and Blake's 7.

Either that or a compelling period drama set in the 1940-80s.

Planet Earth 2, and 1 of course though I still can't convince myself to watch S 01 E 06 completely.

I'm a bit worried that I haven't been into any fiction stuff lately.
