During a bachelorette trip in Liyue to celebrate her childhood best friend’s upcoming marriage, a young woman meets a handsome man with the most striking amber eyes in a bar. Rather than go back to the group of friends who don’t seem to miss her presence at all and seem to be having fun without her, she leaves the bar with the handsome man where they go back to her room and spend an intimate night together.

Fast forward almost six years later, she still thinks about that handsome stranger. And while the memories of him had faded with time, she still clearly remembers the man’s eyes.

Because her son had inherited those very same eyes after all.

The fic is about the trials and tribulations of the main character whose last name is Chibana. She works in Yae’s Publishing House while trying to navigate the struggles of single motherhood in the midst of the Vision Hunt Decree. Of course her son’s growing powers that seem to originate from his father’s side just complicates things even more in a nation that’s under a lock down.

You’ve Got My Eyes is a Genshin Impact Second-Person Narration fic written by LocalPlagueNurse.

You’ve Got My Eyes contains examples of:

• Anger Born of Worry: Chibana snaps at Kei when he tries to pull her back from searching his bed. To her credit, she realizes that she is causing her son a lot of distress on top of what happened at school and calms down.
• Awful Wedded Life: Chibana's confrontation with her old friend in Chapter 13 strongly hints that Mizuki's marriage with her husband is on the rocks and how it's also affecting how her daughter chose to lash out and bully her son. Then she leaves a departing comment about her husband and his secretary that has the woman screaming at her in rage about her audacity.
• Adorably Precocious Child: Kei. Kei is quite smart for his age, preferring the exhibits of the geology section of the museum over the children's play place. He also uses a lot of geological terms that even his own mother doesn't know and enjoys going to the library to get books on topics of whatever happens to be his latest obsession.
  • Kei discovers on his own that Zhongli is his father based off of their strong resemblance and the fact that their eyes are quite distinct.
• Benevolent Boss: Yae Miko isn't at all upset that Chibana suddenly left early on the day that Kei had the authorities called on him when he was under suspicion of possessing a Vision. In fact, she says any good mother would done what she did in her place. And when the usual mischievous Yae Miko realizes that the single mother is in no mood for her teasing, she becomes more serious and is more opening to answering questions about Kei's non-human heritage when Chibana starts desperately looking for answers. And for the sake of her employee and her child finding closure about Kei's true heritage, Yae uses her authority to have Chibana travel to Liyue when their nation is in the midst of a lockdown.
• Berserk Button: For Kei, breaking pinkie promises. According to Chibana, one time when his aunt broke a promise to him he threw quite a temper tantrum. As a result, Chibana has to be careful in regards to wording promises to him to avoid similar situations. When his friend Kiyoko broke her pinkie promise to him not to tell anyone about what he could do, he screamed in her face that they weren't friends any more.
• Break-Up Bonfire: After a failed attempt to get back with her ex-boyfriend when Kei is a toddler, Chibana drags his stuff to her yard and sets it on fire.
• Bystander Syndrome: Both Yae Miko and Childe notice that Kei Chibana strongly resembles a certain Geo Archon, but neither of them want to get dragged into the family drama at the discovery that Rex Lapis has a son. Though when a distressed Chibana demands answers from her boss, Yae Miko doesn't hesitate in revealing the identity of Kei's father.
• Cassandra Truth: No one believes Kei when he claims that he doesn't have a Geo Vision after a classmate of his outs his powers to the entire school. And though his mother is incensed at the authorities being called on her son, she doesn't believe him at first either. In their defense, it occurs to no one that Kei's ability to create rocks and gemstones come from his father's side of the family who just so happens to be the former Geo Archon and the Prime of the Adepti.
• Chekhov's Gun:
  • Kei has mentioned his stuffed toy Purin in his prayers to Zhongli. Kei accidentally drops his stuffed tiger just after they arrive in Liyue and Childe retrieves it for him. When the former Archon of Liyue has another reaction to Kei's prayers while he is hanging out with Childe, the Harbinger realizes that the boy that Zhongli is looking for is already in Liyue due to his earlier encounter with Kei. After all, Purin is a distinctively Inazuman term for the word pudding.
  • Kei loses Purin again and because he promised his mother he would take care of his stuffed animal, he proceeds to look for it. This in turn leads to him and Zhongli meeting and then the reunion with Chibana.
  • Zhongli and Kei's distinct eyes. Yae Miko even lampshades it after she meets Kei as an older child that there was only one other person who had those same eyes- the Geo Archon who also happens to be Kei's father. Kei also figures out that Zhongli is his father because they have the same unique eyes.
• Cry Laughing: When Yae Miko reveals to Chibana that Kei's father is the Geo Archon, the latter can only breakdown crying after the stressful events of Kei being accused of possessing a Vision and nearly being arrested and finding out that her son is the child of one of the seven archons. This is essentially the tipping point of what had been a very stressful few years from discovering her pregnancy, to losing her friends, to having to deal with the fact that her son can make rocks and gems.
• Dramatic Irony: The beginning of the story opens up with Chibana celebrating her best friend Mizuki's upcoming marriage. Six years later and with a child of her own, Chibana hints that her former friend's marriage is on the rocks and as a result Mizuki's daughter is taking it out on Kei.
• The Dreaded:
  • Considering Chibana's reaction to Childe when she sees his Fatui accessories. Even moreso when he reveals that he's one of the Eleven Harbingers.
  • Kei reacts badly to seeing Childe due to the Abyssal taint clinging to him, instinctively reacting to the corruption to his body but not understanding why. He does know that Childe is bad news though.
• Eating the Eye Candy: Hana, one of Mizuki's bridesmaids, gets an eyeful of a half naked Zhongli waking up in Chibana's bed. And while she still thinks that Chibana ditching them for him was a jerk move, she completely understands why the other bridesmaid left.
  "... God damn, okay," she says, "still shitty of you to leave but I get it."
• Everyone Has Standards:
  • Hana was the only one who didn't abandon Chibana once she became a single mother. In fact, she helped Chibana get a job during her time of need.
  • Yae Miko may enjoy teasing people and being playful, but even she knows to take things more seriously when the other person is distressed and not in the mood for her playful teasing.
• Evil Smells Bad: Kei can smell the Abyssal taint from Childe and as such is unusually aggressive towards him to the point that he growls at the Harbinger much to his mother's horror.
• The Friend Nobody Likes: In the first chapter, Chibana seems to be this to her friend group as no one seems to miss her when she up and leaves the group while all of them are drunk and being THAT table in the bar they are currently at. Word of God is that as soon as Chibana became pregnant, they had the pretext to justify dropping her from their friend group with Hana being the only one who helped her out.
• Friend to All Children: As in canon, both Itto and Yoimiya are this as they both cheer Kei up after the events of Chapter 9.
  • Just like in the game, Childe saves a distracted Kei from running into a group of women and gives him back his stuffed toy tiger.
• Good Parents: Chibana is a very good mother to Kei.
• Grin of Rage: Subdued version. When Zhongli finds Childe after encountering Kei and Chibana, he makes it clear to the Harbinger that he is not happy that he left out a lot of things about the little boy. Like the fact that Kei bares such a strong resemblance to him that he can't be anyone else but his son all the while smiling.

  Zhongli smiles, but Tartaglia does not miss the subtle miasma surrounding him.

• Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Mizuki is apparently one after high school and from what we see during her bachelorette trip.
• Half-Human Hybrid: Kei. While his mother Chibana is human, his father is the former Archon of Liyue and the Prime of the Adepti.
• Heroic Self-Deprecation: Chibana has several of these throughout the story. The first is when she criticizes her stance as a good parent to Kei, especially in light of frantically searching his room for a Vision due to his ability to produce gemstones and the second time is when she breaks down crying when talking to Yae Miko when the latter reveals that her son is the child of the Geo Archon, calling herself a floozy after the overwhelming revelation that Kei isn't just the son of a really pretty man.
• I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: After Zhongli drops off Qiqi at Bubu Pharmacy, one of Kei's prayers has such a strong effect on him that bowls him to the point that he can't breathe and Baizhu is concerned that Zhongli is having a panic attack. It takes him a few seconds to realize that he's crying and when he thinks about the child's prayers again, tears start streaming down his face. All Zhongli knows is that this particular child's prayers is having a very visceral impact on him; what he doesn't know is that Kei is his son. It's revealed in Chapter 16 that the reason for this is because Zhongli's adeptus instincts were reacting to his child's cries aka Kei.
• Inelegant Blubbering: When Chibana tries to search for a possible Geo Vision after Kei was nearly arrested at his school, Kei starts screaming and crying to the point he is unable to properly speak when she heads to his room and starts searching it. In Kei's defense, he is a five year old. A five year old that earlier had the authorities called on to him and was accused of carrying a Vision, with even his own mom not believing that he didn't possess one.
• Internal Reveal: Though the readers know that Zhongli, the Geo Archon in disguise, is Kei’s father it isn’t until Chapter 12 that Chibana herself learns from Yae Miko that the Geo Archon fathered her son. Zhongli has yet to find out that he has a child but Kei's prayers towards him seem to have such a visceral effect that Zhongli is insistent on meeting him if just to know why Kei's prayers affect him so strongly. He finally meets Kei in chapter 15 and it only takes him one glance to know exactly why Kei's prayers are affecting him.
  • In the next chapter, Kei discovers on his own that he and Zhongli are father and son due to the strong resemblance between them and their unique eyes that he had inherited from the latter.
• Irony:
  • One of Kei's favourite foods is his Aunt Hana's Sashimi. His father on the other hand due to a traumatizing event in the past can't stand seafood.
  • Even though Hana was the one who confronted Chibana about ditching the bridal party in Liyue to sleep with Zhongli, she is the only friend who sticks by Chibana's side after her pregnancy came to light. In fact, she also got Chibana a very flexible job and is such an outstanding figure in Kei's life that Chibana considers her Kei's honourary aunt.
• Jerkass: Mizuki. Not only did she dump her old childhood friend during a time she needed her support, but she continues to harass her in present day. She finds opportunity to complain about Chibana's son using whatever reason she could find, but she also reported Kei to the school and authorities about the possibility that he may possess a vision. She also calls Chibana a whore due to the fact that she had the child of a man whose name she didn't get.
• Kids Are Cruel: After Kei returns to school several days after being accused of possessing a Vision, Rin continues to taunt him by saying that he's going to be arrested after what was a very harrowing and traumatizing ordeal for him. Chapter 13 implies that her mother's Awful Wedded Life is one reason why Rin takes it out on Chibana's son..
• Kill It with Fire: Thanks to her pyro vision, Chibana has the ability to set things on fire. Though so far, we've only seen her use it on her ex's things after a failed attempt to get back together.
• Kitsune: Yae Miko, who jusy do happens to be Chibana's boss.
• Like Father, Like Son: Kei takes after his father so strongly that Yae Miko only needs to meet him once to know who his dad is. Not only does he have his father's eyes, a rare eye colour that only his father has, but he has a strong obsession with rocks- particularly Cor Lapis which just so happens to be a famous type of rock in Liyue and strongly associated with the Geo Archon.
• Loner-Turned-Friend: While not distant persay, Mizuki was described to formally be more introverted until she hit high school and became much more sociable.
• Loophole Abuse: The reason why Kei was nearly arrested on suspicion for having a Vision was because when his friend Kiyoko was telling another kindergartner named Aoi about Kei's ability to create gems while making her promise that she wouldn't tell anyone else, Rin Takao was eavesdropping on the conversation and declared that she didn't promise to keep Kei's abilities a secret and therefore it was fair game to tell anyone she wanted, including her mother, Mizuki, who proceeded to make the situation even worst by not only calling the school but also the authorities.
• Mama Bear:
  • Chibana is utterly furious that the authorities were called on her child, not only causing him distress and likely traumatizing him in the future but also the fact that no one told her about the fact that people suspected that her son had a Vision. She rips into everyone at the Principle's office and would have torn her former friend to shreds had children not been present.
  • When Yae Miko asks if Kei's parentage would impact Chibana's affections towards her son, the latter is furious that the kitsune would insinuate anything of the sort. Chibana carried Kei for nine months and loved him after she gave birth; the fact that he is half human doesn't change her love for her child.
  • Chibana doesn't care if you are the Geo Archon; she will hurt you if you don't look after Kei when she was forced to entrust her son to Zhongli in the aftermath of an appendectomy.
• Manchild:
  • Itto. Probably the only adult TCG Card Player who would lose to a five year old, though he seems to take it well.
  • A much less benevolent example is Mizuki Takao who Chibana accuses of never having grown out of her drama stirring high school ways.
• Meaningful Name: Word of God says that the kanji for Kei's name is Gemstones. Considering Kei's ability to produce stones from Cor Lapis to Diamonds, it is a very fitting name for him.
• My God, What Have I Done?: Chibana has this reaction after she searches Kei's room for a Vision in manic desperation after Kei was nearly arrested at school. It isn't when she gets a good look at Kei's face that she realizes how much she was terrifying and hurting him and as a result feels as if she's a failure of a mother for making Kei so upset.
• Noodle Incident:
  • Nearly six years after the first chapter, Chibana is no longer friends with the rest of the bachelorette group with the exception of Hana. Though it hasn't been revealed yet, it is hinted that they split because of Chibana's one night stand and the resulting pregnancy.
  • We know that Chibana's boyfriend left her prior to that faithful bachelorette trip to Liyue. And at some point, after she had Kei, she gave her ex-boyfriend a second chance, though that completely fell through and the only thing that came out of it was Chibana dragging her ex's stuff out to the yard and using her Pyro Vision to burn his stuff.
• The Nose Knows: Kei has an incredibly good sense of smell that allows him to identify whether someone smells safe and like family, whether someone is human or not when he identifies Itto as an Oni and Yae Miko as a Kitsune, and he can smell the taint of the Abyss on Childe.
• Obnoxious Entitled Housewife: What Mizuki Takao becomes in the future after she and Chibana split on bad terms. When Kei’s teacher Miss Hara tells Chibana that some of the parents are kicking up a fuss over Kei telling the other kids about a foreign Archon, the single mother immediately knows that her old friend is the one stirring the pot. According to the author, Mizuki is that one parent who makes a huge deal about everything when it isn't even an eighth of the deal she's making it out to be.
  • Mizuki is the one who calls the school and authorities on Kei, a five year old child who is the same age as her own daughter.
• Oh, Crap!: Chibana has this reaction when she realizes that the Fatui member she had encountered wasn't just anyone but one of the Eleven Harbingers.
• One-Night-Stand Pregnancy: What kicks off the plot. Chibana and Zhongli sleep together for one night; long enough for Kei to be conceived.
• O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Chibana is shocked that Kei growls at Childe when they first meet, highly embarrassed of her son's actions despite the fact that she fears the red head because he's a member of Snezhnaya's infamous milita.
• Papa Wolf: Despite not knowing Kei for very long, he is horrified and then angry afterwards when he learns that Kei was arrested.
• Pinky Swear: Kei takes his pinkie promises- or promises in general- very seriously. If someone breaks a promise, he gets very upset to the point that he will bite someone if he is angry enough.
  • After his friend Kiyoko breaks his promise not to tell anyone about his abilities, he screams at her that they are no longer friends, making her cry in the process.
• Reasonable Authority Figure:
  • Miss Hara, Kei's teacher, has no issue having words with Mizuki Takao when the woman crosses the line. She also had a conversation with the obnoxious mother off screen about calling Chibana a whore and after Kei pushes Rin down because the latter wouldn't leave him alone and kept taunting him about being arrested because of him owning a Vision, she was the one who explained that it was Rin who had initiated the conflict between them while also silencing Mizuki whenever she tries to get in a word.
  • Detective Heizou. He was the one who picked up Chibana from work when the authorities were trying to interrogate Kei about his abilities to try and calm her son down and he shows that while he is still doing his job, he's not going to start abusing his position over it.
• Right in Front of Me: Kei talks about his admiration of Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon, right in front of Zhongli. Who just also happens to be his father.
• Running Gag: The fact that Kei is instantly identified as Morax's son just by looking at his eyes by everyone who has met the Geo Archon such as Yae Miko and Childe.
• Slut-Shaming: During a tense scene when Chibana is angry at the school and several other parents at the fact that they had called the authorities on her five year old son, Mizuki silently mouths the word whore at Chibana after accusing her former friend for not knowing the name of her son’s father.
• Strong Family Resemblance: Kei's resemblance to his father is so strong that people who know who Rex Lapis is can tell that Kei is his son at a glance. Both Yae Miko and Childe instantly know the two of them are related. And when Zhongli meets Kei for the first time and their eyes meet, he instantly knows why Kei's prayers affect him so much.
  • In chapter sixteen, Kei asks his mother if Mr. Zhongli is his father because he notices that the man and not only strongly resembles him, but they have the same unique eyes. As far as he knows, only he and the man have these distinct amber eyes with unique rings in them.
• Struggling Single Mother: Chibana seems to be doing well enough in the present, but becoming a single mother was not easy on her. On top of her parents disapproval and the fact that it took them seven months to decide to help out with her and their yet to be born grandson, she also lost all of her friends with the exception of Hana who not only stuck by her but got her a job at Yae Miko's Publishing House with flexible hours and good maternity leave. And in present day, thanks to the Sakoku and Vision Hunt Decrees, Chibana has to be tighter with money thanks to the effect that the former is having on the economy.
• Supernatural Gold Eyes: Zhongli, as the Prime of the Adepti and the (former) Geo Archon, has this. It's one of his identifying traits when he is wandering around Liyue disguised as a human. His son, Kei, has inherited these same eyes and it's the main trait that Yae Miko uses to confirm her theory that Kei is the former Geo Archon's son.
• The Unfettered: No one is exempt from the Vision Hunt Decree as Chibana finds out when Mizuki calls the Commission on Kei, reporting him for the possibility of possessing a Vision when his ability to produce rocks and gemstones is uncovered. Not even a five year old little boy.
• Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Itto seems to think nothing of the fact that Kei seems to be radiating huge amounts of Geo energy, signifying a part of his non-human nature.
• Used to Be a Sweet Kid: According to Chibana, Mizuki used to be this until just before they went to college and by then she became a full blown party animal. Prior to that, she was a part of a high school clique in which there was a lot of drama.
• We Used to Be Friends: Mizuki and Chibana used to be best friends. However in the present, the two of them can barely stand one another. Chibana would prefer to ignore her former friend, but Mizuki seems to try and find fault with everything the former does as well as her son despite the fact.
• What Beautiful Eyes!:
  • This is what Chibana first notices about Zhongli. The first chapter literally opens up with the sentence describing them.
    The most remarkable part of his beauty was easily his eyes.
  • Kei also inherits these gold eyes. In fact, they are so distinct that Yae Miko says that there is only one other being in the world who shares those eyes and it is how she and Childe identify who Kei’s father is.
  • Kei himself notices just how unique his eyes are and because Zhongli has the same eyes as him, he questions his mother on whether Zhongli is his father.
  • Zhongli himself instantly knows Kei's relation to him once he sees his son's eyes.
• What the Hell, Hero?: Chibana gets one courtesy of one of the other bridesmaids, Hana, who calls her out on abandoning the rest of the group to spend the night with the man she met at the bar.
