https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shion_toudou_1471.jpg

Voiced by: Saki Yamakita

Sion is the undefeated Go champion who one day realized she long for actual competition and stepped out of her comfort zone by entering PriPara after witnessing SoLaMi Smile perform. A cool-type idol, Sion uses the brand Baby Monster.

General tropes

  • The Ace: Is able to learn how to sing and dance perfectly in mere seconds and was undefeated in Go back when she still played.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Highly popular with female fans both in and out of the series.
  • Girliness Upgrade: Gained this role during episode 102 for a movie everyone was invited to partake in.
  • Godlike Gamer: Her anime debut was her playing a game of Go and quickly earning her 5th consecutive student championship victory. Then she was asked if she will aim for a 10th consecutive victory as a 7th grader (something that has never been achieved before), and she said that she is done with Go professionally and no one would be able to match her even in 10 years and subsequently announces her retirement, stating that she will challenge another path (which was the idol path).
  • Hot-Blooded: Very passionate, be it about go or being an idol.
  • Insufferable Genius: Her intelligence level is on par with Mirei.
  • Large Ham: At times.
  • Larynx Dissonance: Her voice is deep and masculine, it is comparable to that of Love's.
  • Meaningful Name: Sion is a unisex name, which fits her tomboy personality. Is also based on the seventh note of the Solfège scale (Si). Also the japanese pronunciation of her name (Shion) can be a reference to "Shion-iro" which is a pale purple color or violet (the color of asters flowers), this may refer to her idol type and theme color.
  • Oblivious to Love: Hibiki sent a love letter to her, but she thought it was a invite to a challenge. Turns out it wasn't a love letter, but still.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: She casually adds yojijukugo (four-character idiom) to her sentences, which appear on the screen most of the time when she does.
  • The Rival: To Mirei, which was part of her reason for joining a rivaling unit.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: With Dorothy for a while back when they first started.
  • Tomboy
  • Tomboyish Voice: Has one of the deepest voices of the cast, and is also one of the most Hot-Blooded.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: In her case, it is a right sidetail.

As an Idol

  • Animal Motif: Very subtle, but some of her coords and her mic have bat wings decoration, as well as her autograph. She also loves pandas and is shown with some motifs sometimes, but is very Downplayed.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Uses her experience in Go to adapt to idol activities.
  • Instant Expert: Her singing and dancing become top-idol material after she related them to Go.
  • Unwillingly Girly Tomboy: In episode 102

    Dorothy and Reona West

Voiced by: Azuki Shibuya (Dorothy), Yuki Wakai (Reona)

A pair of twins who initially tried out for Mirei's unit and failed to secure a spot after this when Mirei refused to ditch Laala to join them. Since then Dorothy has held a grudge and agreed to join the equally hostile Usagi, who was upset over his recent loss of Sophie to them. Their parents run an Okonomiyaki shop that competed with Papa's Pasta. The twins are Pop-type Idols who use the brand Fortune Party.

General Tropes

  • But Not Too Foreign: Their father is a Canadian.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Dorothy is light blue while Reona is pink.
    • In some coords, Dorothy's theme color will be dark blue while Reona has red.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Although their eyes are darker in shade this still applies.
  • Hopeless Auditionees: In Episode 11, Mirei and Kuma are happy that Dorothy offers herself to join their group. The next episode though, they learn Dorothy was bringing along Reona, her twin and insists they both join as a two-in-one deal. They get rejected as a result, as the Sparkling Grand Prix event only allows units of three idols to compete.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Apart from the hair and eye colors, Leona has a mole under his left eye.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Dorothy is the girl, but her color scheme is blue, is something of a Tomboy with a Girly Streak and refers herself with masculine pronouns, while Reona is the boy, but his color scheme is pink, is feminine and refers himself with feminine pronouns. It's also shown on their first casual coord were the Dorothy one had a short and the Reona one had a skirt.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: A reversed case!
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Reona is calm, sensitive and quiet, while Dorothy is abrasive and an extrovert.

Dorothy Tropes

  • Gamer Chick
  • Genki Girl: She is naturally energetic and tries to display this side of herself towards the fans.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Dorothy, aside of being whiny and abrasive, is a good person by heart.
  • The Fake Cutie: Possibly. To fans and those she wants to win over, she is able to turn on the charm as The Tease. But those who know Dorothy are well-aware of her hostile attitude.
    • It was also noted in her first appearance she came off as being really nice and friendly until Mirei rejected her and Reona.
  • The Gadfly
  • The Lad-ette: Dorothy is a bit young for the trope, but still applies.
  • Revenge: After getting rejected by Mirei, Dorothy sought out retribution from her group. She tends to be very petty in general.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is based on the first and last note of the Solfège scale (Do).
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: With Sion when she took charge of their unit and proved to be more talented despite being new. Over time this lessened.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Due to her rough personality Dorothy comes off as a tomboy in comparison to the other girls and her twin brother. However, she has no complaints in wearing cutesy clothing or using her natural girls charm.
    • This is also displayed in the coords she and Reona wear. While Leona's will provide a skirt, her versions usually include shorts or pants.
  • Tsundere: Non-romantic variant. She really cares about her friends, but has trouble admitting it.

Reona Tropes

  • Ambiguously Bi: While he may admire Meganii to the point of an implied crush, he does show interest in Sophy in the live musical continuity.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: Even though the show says Reona is a boy, only girls can get pritickets and go to PriPara and Reona does, even when Danpri was announced in series Reona didn't get confused about gender or anything. "He" never showed discomfort with being referred as a girl, actually "he" looked very happy with the kids calling "him" "onee-san" (big sister) in one episode. Also in one episode Reona was dressed as a princess and was questioned by Hibiki why "he" dressed as a girl and "he" replied "This is who I am". In "his" duet with Dorothy have the line "we’ll always be each other’s sister", and since the episode this song debuted there hasn’t been a single reference to Reona being a "boy". Also considering Reona shy personality "he" wouldn't be correcting people every time they refer to "him" as a boy. Also Reona uses "watashi" (female pronoums) refering to "himself", and while in anime isn't unusual for girls (Dorothy) to use "boku" (male pronoums) it is unusual for boys to use watashi. But that all said Idol Time Pripara and Idol Land Pripara show that "he" (and Hibiki as well, but Hibiki is canonically non binary) can also enter Danpri which gives even more ambiguity to this.
  • Camp Gay: Reona is heavily implied to have a crush on Meganii. In the Valentine's Day episode he even wanted to give him glasses made from chocolate. In fact, he did so twice throughout the series.
  • Commonality Connection: Grew a bond with Sophy after they spoke to each other and realized they had a lot in common.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Reona is so feminine that people tend to see him as a girl, often leading to funny situations.
  • Extreme Doormat: To his sister, who he normally agrees with at all times- to the point it is part of his catchphrase.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Reona, despite being a boy, has a name that's considered feminine in pretty much any culture in which the name pops up.
  • Ironic Name / Punny Name: In episode 116 when Pepper saw everyone as an animal she saw Reona as a lion and Reona is the Japanese rendering of "Leona" which means "Lion", which is ironic since he is quite shy.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is based on the second note of the Solfège scale (Re).
  • The One Guy: Leona is the only guy PriPara user in the series.
    • By Idol Time PriPara, he's not the only one, due to the introduction of WiTH and Danpri (the Pripara for boys), but he remains the only boy in the Pri Para for girls.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Easily nicer and more reserved than his sister.
  • She's a Man in Japan: The Korean dub removed all mentions of Reona's gender and recolored his uniform necktie.
  • The Quiet One
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: To the point that both genders fall in love with him.
