The self-proclaimed glamorous member of the group, who's up for the latest fashions.
- It's All About Me: Downplayed as she's not malicious about it, but her self-absorbed behavior annoys the others, not to mention her phone addiction got them discovered by Cora.
- Phoneaholic Teenager: As she says herself in Episode 3, she "can't live without her shellphone".
- Power Glows: She has a mesmerizing glow as stated in her profile.
- The Fashionista: She loves "kriller" fashion as stated in her intro-vid.
- Unexplained Accent: Searra has an unexplained Spanish accent despite likely being from the same place as the rest of her friends.
Finly

Na-mer-ste!
The sweet but shy member of the group, who likes boho styles.
- Granola Girl: Heavily downplayed, but her bohemian-inspired fashion, love of yoga, veganism and phrase "save the sushi" seem to point her in this direction.
- Informed Ability: According to her student ID, Finly has the ability to communicate with animals.
- Speaks Fluent Animal: She can speak any animal language, land or sea, as her profile says.
Oceanna

Let's catch a wave!
The tomboyish member of the group who loves sports, such as surfing.
- Academic Athlete: The most active and sporty of the group with her favorite subject being science.
- Passionate Sports Girl: Oceania wears wetsuit inspired "athleisure" and loves surfing and speed.
- The Leader: She's the one who seems to be in charge out of the four.
- Super Speed: Her profile says she can swim or run very fast.
Mari
Voiced by: Danielle Judovits
New shell phone, who dis?
The smartest member of the group, known for dressing in wild punk-esque clothes.
- Animal Motif: Has an octopus motif.
- Beautiful Singing Voice: Is described as having hypnotic vocals in her profile.
- Never Bareheaded: She never once takes off the octopus tentacle headband she wears.

Cora
Voiced by: Triya Long
The Merfriends' best friend who's a lifeguard and blogger for Mermaid High, and the only one who knows their identities as mermaids.
- Light-Haired Swimmer: She's a lifeguard so this is a given.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Cora has blonde waves of hair and is a "sweet little happy clam" with a good heart.
- Secret Chaser: Initially this upon discovering the girls' mermaid secret.
- Secret-Keeper: The only student of Mermaid High who knows the girls are mermaids.
Catalina
Voiced by: Brianna Knickerbocker
Mermaid High's surf star and most popular student who loves to be in the spotlight.
- Alpha Bitch: Catalina is stated to be a "stingray with a side of jelly" who loves being queen in Deep Dive Episode 2, heavily implying she is this. In episodes, she's shown to be egocentric, demanding and dismissive.
- Attention Whore: Catalina demands that she be paid attention to while surfing in Episode 4 and becomes angry when Cora doesn’t comply.note
- Acquired Situational Narcissism: Deep Dive Episode 4 implies that once she became surf star, her ego increased exponentially.
- Even Evil Has Standards: She's not "evil" per say, but in the background of Episode 5, she expresses clear surprise and shock at Dev's hostility and actions.
- Hartman Hips: A shot of her in her wetsuit shows her hips are much wider than her chest.
- Light-Haired Swimmer: Catalina is established to be a surf star in Episode 2.
- Secret Chaser: To the Merfriends along with Devin.
Devin

Pierleader captain of Mermaid High who frequently antagonizes the Merfriends.
- Beta Bitch: Devin is introduced as “Catalina’s best friend”, though she's much worse personality-wise.
- Bitch Alert: In her first physical appearance, Devin shoves her way between the main characters and orders them to stay away from Xavier.
- In-Series Nickname: Dev.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: She goes by "Dev".
- Tsundere: Implied. Cora states she's your "BFF one minute; frenemy the next", meaning she might be this or some form of it.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Ex-girlfriend example, but when she says to not go near X, she means it as evidenced by her trying to throw water onto Finly for pairing up with him for a class.
- Secret Chaser: Along with Catalina, to the Merfriends.
Josh
Voiced by: Zeno Robinson
Catalina's ex and the subject of both Oceanna's and Searra's crushes.
- Academic Athlete: Deep Dive Episode 2 states that he "has many, many thoughts" and loves deep conversations.
- Lovable Jock: He surfs and offers to show Oceanna how, as well as being nice to the girls in general.
- Nobody Touches the Hair: He doesn't let anyone touch his hair according to Deep Dive Episode 2.
Xavier
Voiced by: Zeno Robinson
Devin's ex, a lover of karaoke and a vegan skateboarder who's the coolest guy at Mermaid High.
- In-Series Nickname: X.
- Nice Guy: Perfectly amiable when he shows up in Episode 5.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Everyone calls him X.
- The Smart Guy: Deep Dive Episode 5 states that he's top of his class and a "smartthrob".
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Deep Dive Episode 5 reveals that he's afraid of ferris wheels
Coach Sue Nami
Voiced by: Marissa Meizel
- Big Eater: Her first scene in episode 5 is her messily chowing down on sushi, and after giving the assignment declares "Nami needs nom nom".
- Dissonant Laughter: Likes to laugh maniacally for no reason as seen in episodes 3 and 5. She sounds like a maniac usually, and her laughter emphasizes her craziness.
- The Faceless: In Episode 3. Averted by episode 5 where her face is shown at the very beginning.
- Punny Name: Sue Nami sounds a lot like "Tsunami".
