The Goto Family

     Kakushi Goto
Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya (Japanese), Howard Wang (English)
An eccentric manga artist and single father who keeps his job a secret from his daughter.
  • Bumbling Dad: His obsession with keeping his secret and protecting Hime results in some very stupid decisions on his part. Averted when he interacts with her directly, however, as he's a great dad when that's the case; he just usually jumps to conclusions before doing this.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: He's able to very effortlessly charm four women that we've seen.
  • Clark Kenting: He has the suit and tie look for his salary man look, which is his "disguise" before he dons his real work clothes — casual clothes, which he needs to get into the zone for his manga work. It actually works when Hime sees him in his "manga" clothes and can't recognise him because she's so used to the suit and tie look.
  • Hypocrite: Kakushi doesn't like the idea of Hime hiding things from him, despite the entire premise of Kakushigoto. The guilt when he realises this physically hurts him.
  • Parents as People: His eccentricities and insecurities are Played for Laughs... except when they're not, and it's clear that his love and concern for his daughter run deep, and he's genuinely unsure about how she'll turn out and what she needs as a child.

     Hime Goto
Voiced by: Rie Takahashi (Japanese), Morgan Garrett (English)
Kakushi's innocent daughter, who lives life unaware of her father's job... except in the flash forward, when she's 18 years old and has found out.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: For one episode, she goes out of her way to save money when she thinks her family is poor. She gets over it.
  • Cheerful Child: She's always happy and nothing seems to bug her, at least at first. However, it's more like she doesn't let anything bug her and tries not to overthink things that might upset her.
  • Missing Mom: Hime's mother is never seen in the present day and is implied to have died.

G-Pro

The manga studio that Kakushi works at, who all keep his secret.

     Satsuki Tomaruin
Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae (Japanese), Aaron Dismuke (English)
Kakushi's new editor. He is later also present in the flash forwards.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: While he initially comes off as blumbling and naive, he seems to actually dislike Kakushi and seems to go out of his way at times to risk Hime finding out Kakushi's secret — it's also heavily implied that he knew Kakushi's deal with keeping his job a secret from day one.
  • Brutal Honesty: For all his constantly jovial attitude, he has no qualms expressing his dislike of Kakushi in front of the latter's face.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Kakushi dislikes him and Rasuna implies everybody at G-Pro dislikes him.
  • Nepotism: Secures a lavish hotel room for Kakushi to do urgent work in thanks to being an acquaintance of the hotel's manager, making Kakushi suspect that Tomaruin got his editor job due to his connections. His preppy-sounding name and incompetence at his job only add to that suspicion.
  • Pet the Dog: The Flash Forward has him speak about Kakushi in a much more respectful manner, and he's offended at the suggestion that he broke Kakushi's trust. As you can probably tell, this is very different from his usual demeanour of outright talking shit about Kakushi at every opportunity.
  • Stalker with a Crush: On Nadila, to the point that he watched her through Kakushi's window and was called out as a stalker by Rokujo.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Downplayed. After Kakushi helps him escape the party of a rival editing company when his cover's blown, Tomaruin thanks him by stealing his coat on the way out.

     Aogu Shiji
Voiced by: Taku Yashiro (Japanese), Cris George (English)
Kakushi's chief assistant, who is also present in the flash forward.
  • Hollywood Healing: Averted. He somehow breaks his arm offscreen and it takes a while to heal.
  • Secret-Keeper: The flash forward implies he doesn't tell Hime — he asks if Sumita did, instead.

     Ami Kakei
Voiced by: Ayane Sakura (Japanese), Katelyn Barr (English)
Kakushi's eccentric female assistant.

     Rasuna Sumita
Voiced by: Kiyono Yasuno (Japanese), Tia Ballard (English)
Another of Kakushi's assistants. In the flash forward, she is present alongside Shiji.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Has a noticeably curvy figure and large chest, which are sometimes shown off, and she even has a shower scene at one point.
  • Nice Girl: She is the most upbeat of anyone at G-Pro and doesn't ever actually complain about the job or keeping Kakushi's secret.
  • Secret-Keeper: The flash forward indicates she never breaks her word on this.

     Kakeru Keshi
Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (Japanese), Kevin Thelwell (English)
Kakushi's newest assistant, who tries to learn the ropes around the office and is befuddled by everyone's eccentricities.
  • Meaningful Name/Punny Name: His surname sounds like "erasure" in Japanese and his job at G-Pro is to erase stuff on the manuscripts.
  • Naïve Newcomer: He has some knowledge of the manga industry but doesn't know the routines of G-Pro, so everyone usually has to explain things to him.

Other characters

     Mario
Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa (Japanese), Daman Mills (English)

Kakushi's friend and a clothing store owner. He stores Kakushi's "work" clothes and helps him out with his secret.

  • Expy: Of Mario "Mr. Fashion" Biyoshino from Katteni Kaizo, which is also by Kouji Kumeta. It's unknown if they're suppose to be the same person.
  • The Nameless: It takes until episode 7 for him to be named.

     Ichiko Rokujo
Voiced by: Maaya Uchida (Japanese), Lindsay Seidel (English)
Hime's teacher and one of Kakushi's biggest fans. She has feelings for him and helps him keep his secret. She and some of Hime's friends appear in the flash forwards.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: She has feelings for Kakushi but he doesn't even notice, and seems to not see her in a romantic light at all.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Keeps fuming throughout the sports festival as Kakushi is being surrounded by other women.
  • Secret-Keeper: Understands Kakushi's situation and goes out of her way to keep his job a secret from Hime.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: In one of the flash forwards, she reunites with Hime's friends, but she's grown her hair out and is wearing a sundress. The former students barely recognize her.
  • Tomboy: She's tanned, always wearing fitness clothes and isn't particularly feminine, in contrast to most of the other female characters.

     Naru Senda
Voiced by: Rikako Aida (Japanese), Emi Lo (English)
A high school student who aspires to be an idol singer. Hime is a fan of hers and she meets Kakushi through Hime and develops feelings for him.
  • Ascended Extra: Is introduced alongside two other gag love interests for Kakushi, and is the least likely to happen (the other two are adult women while she's a teenager) and not presented seriously (she lampshades her presence as fanservice in-universe). She went on to have more appearances than the others, with a larger role than them to boot.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Her crush on Kakushi comes about because he takes her idol aspiration seriously — unknown to her, he was researching a character similar to her for his job.
  • Idol Singer: Well, at least she wants to be one. She's good according to Hime but nobody takes her seriously.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: She develops a crush on Kakushi that hasn't gone away, to the point that she wanted to stay with him when she ran away from home.

     Nadila
Voiced by: Emiri Katou (Japanese), Risa Mei (English)
A migrant worker from Indonesia who periodically does housekeeping work for the Goto household.
  • Funny Foreigner: Her Indonesian customs and cooking style, which have an influence on Hime, are played for comedy.
