Sandbox for the Wick Check Project thread. Categories are split between "Tropes that need Wick Checks", "Current Projects", "Completed Projects that may need further review", and "Completed Projects awaiting TRS". Tropes with completed wick checks can be removed once a TRS thread is started or once a major project thread decides to tackle the issue; those with pending TRS threads are indexed at the TRS Queue. If you want to learn how to conduct a wick check, see How to Do a Wick Check. If you want tropes to do wick checks for, check out Tropes Needing TRS, Color Tropes Cleanup, and Appearance Tropes Cleanup.

Tropes Needing Wick Checks
- Adaptation Personality Change: Misuse of Adaptational Heroism and Adaptational Nice Guy. (Sandbox)
- Animation Age Ghetto (needs 50) (Sandbox)
- Apocalypse How: Issues with Type Labels Are Not Examples because the trope's subpages were never updated to reflect the deprecation of the class labeling system, leading to continued usage of type labels as the only form of context in examples. Needs 71 wicks checked. (Sandbox)
- Arc Number (Sandbox)
- Arc Words: Check 85 wicks. (Sandbox)
- Award-Bait Song (Sandbox)
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Check for non-romantic use. (Sandbox)
- Bee People (Sandbox)
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: Brought up in RL section maintenance, but there's suspicion regarding tropeworthiness. Check for ZCE and PSOC examples. (Sandbox)
- Black Mage and White Mage: Check for lack of context or chairsy examples. Brought up in the TRS thread for Black Magician Girl and White Magician Girl. (Sandbox.Black Mage Wick Check and Sandbox.White Mage Wick Check)
- Blinded by Rage: Do examples include "actively tries to make their opponent angry"? (Sandbox)
- Cartoon Conductor (Sandbox)
- Catch-Phrase Spouting Duo (Sandbox)
- Censored for Comedy: Check for misuse. (Sandbox)
- Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Brought up in the "Is this tropeworthy/chairs?" thread that most of the examples are just about the series not having a single, united theme antagonist-wise (the Playing With page mentions a male middle-aged melée fighter vs a teen magic girl), rather than providing any kind of real contrast. (Sandbox)
- Creator In-Joke: Should be trivia? (Sandbox)
- Dance of Romance: "When adding examples, keep in mind that this trope is about the dance being the first indication of romance between the dancers, not just a romantic dance between two people who are in love (or in denial)." Is it actually used that way? (Sandbox)
- The Dog Bites Back (Sandbox)
- Fleeting Demographic Rule (needs 50) (Sandbox)
- Freakiness Shame: Check for misuse (Sandbox)
- Freudian Excuse: Check 111 wicks. (Sandbox)
- Get Thee to a Nunnery: Classified as objective, but seems to describe a subjective phenomenon. ("Due to changes in vocabulary over time, something that originally was supposed to be raunchy and Double Entendre-laden can often sound perfectly straightforward—or sometimes incomprehensible—to modern ears.") (Sandbox)
- God Is Evil (Sandbox)
- Godwin's Law: Concerns about examples attracting complaining. (Sandbox)
- Good Scars, Evil Scars (Sandbox)
- Gossipy Hens: Usage is broader than definition. (Sandbox)
- Guilty Pleasures: This is IUEO but there are wicks to YMMV/ pages, and there may be an issue of tropers using this as a verbal tic. (Sandbox)
- Hartman Hips: Suspected amount of misuse and Zero-context examples. (Sandbox)
- Have a Gay Old Time: Classified as objective, but seems to describe a subjective phenomenon (older phrasing coming off as strange to modern audiences). (Sandbox)
- Head-Tiltingly Kinky: Seems to be used as a pothole for kinkiness in general, while the definition is about implying kinkiness through in-universe reactions to sexual stuff. (Sandbox)
- Hindsight tropes: Suspected massive amount of misuse. Will be a massive job, with Hilarious in Hindsight needing 130 wicks checked, Harsher in Hindsight needing 100, and Heartwarming in Hindsight needing 50. (Sandbox.Hilarious In Hindsight Wick Check, Sandbox.Harsher In Hindsight Wick Check, Sandbox.Heartwarming In Hindsight Wick Check)
- Hollywood California: May be literally misused for Hollywood the city. (Sandbox)
- The Host / Game Show Host: The former seems to be a couple of concepts mixed into one, including possibly being a supertrope for the latter. (Sandbox)
- Humor Dissonance: Description has it as a subjective trope, but it's commonly used objectively. (Sandbox)
- I Didn't Mean to Kill Him: Stock phrase that overlaps between Accidental Murder and Murder by Mistake (the latter's distinction being that there was an intended target). (Sandbox)
- Instant Expert: Description focuses on quick mastery of powers, but there are lots of non-power examples. Check for overlap with Like a Duck Takes to Water? (Sandbox)
- Joshikousei: Check to see if it's tropeworthy or if the use is redundant with Sailor Fuku and is chairs otherwise. (Sandbox)
- Karmic Death: Check 82 wicks. (Sandbox)
- Lip Lock: Brought up in the complaining cleanup thread as a potential complaining magnet. 50 wicks need to be checked. (Sandbox)
- Marathon Boss (Sandbox)
- My Friends... and Zoidberg: Pothole magnet that may need to be made IUEO to stop misuse. Check 66 wicks. (Sandbox)
- The Namesake: The definition involves a reveal. Does usage reflect this? (Sandbox)
- N-Word Privileges (Sandbox)
- Once Killed a Man with a Noodle Implement: The description is very unclear on whether the trope is about someone who kills someone else with an unusual item, or if it is supposed to be a stock phrase. If it is the former, it might be too similar to Improbable Weapon User. (Sandbox)
- One-Episode Wonder: Attracts some misuse for characters or other aspects that only appeared in one episode, as opposed to works that only lasted a single installment. We also want to free up the title for a TLP draft that's making the misuse into its own YMMV item. (Sandbox)
- One-Liner: Was suggested to have a wick check due to suspect/potential of trope-worthiness and not just a use as an index. (Sandbox)
- Only Idiots May Pass: Test for complaining. (Sandbox)
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Very similar to Out-of-Character Alert. The similarity in laconics does not help. Test for duplicate? (Sandbox)
- Orgasmic Combat: Check for in-universe vs audience reaction use. (Sandbox)
- Playing Possum: Check for reasons for playing dead and usage for playing dead in general. (Sandbox)
- The Quisling: Check for the character listed as a Collaborator with the most knowledge and authority, or if it is just Les Collaborateurs. Check 50 Wicks (Sandbox)
- Raptor Attack: Wicks seen with similar misuse as what was formerly Ptero Soarer. Check for redundancies with Artistic License – Paleontology. (Sandbox)
- Reality Is Unrealistic: Obvious Audience Reaction. (Sandbox)
- The Red Mage: While the trope is about mages proficient in multiple Disciplines of Magic, some examples seem to focus more on mages proficient at both Black and White Magic even if all their spells are from the same discipline or if there are no disciplines of magic. (Sandbox)
- Role Reprise (Sandbox)
- See-Thru Specs: Check example scope. (Sandbox)
- Send in the Clones: Check for misuse/context issues. (Sandbox)
- Sesquipedalian Smith: Check for ZCE and any examples overlapping with Awesome McCoolname. (Sandbox)
- Shared Mass Hallucination: Non-indicative name; check for misuse. (Sandbox)
- Shoot the Shaggy Dog: Constant disputes between tropers over whether this trope means "main protagonists die All for Nothing" (camp D) or "tragic All for Nothing endings" (camp E). (Sandbox)
- Teen Pregnancy: Sees use when the father is known to be a teen at the time but the mother's age is unknown. Could be renamed to be more gender-inclusive. (Sandbox)
- The Trope Formerly Known as X (Sandbox)
- Tuckerization: Should probably be trivia. (Sandbox)
- The Unreveal: Needs to see how much usage is actually "something is never revealed," missing the "a reveal is set up" part of the trope. (Sandbox)
- What Could Have Been: Check for potential misuse of the trope. It's supposed to be for when the creators of works came up with and/or proposed ideas that didn't make it into the final product, but it's sometimes used for speculative what-if scenarios. (Sandbox)
- When Is Purple: Confusing description, need to check for how wicks are used. Check all wicks. (Sandbox)
- You Keep Using That Word: Correct use is "character points out misuse of a word". Is misused as "the work/a character misuses a word". (Sandbox)
