Wick Check input (100 examples)

  1. Webcomic. In Wilys Defense: Blues is immediately disqualified from participating in the Battle of Wits because, to quote Cut Man, he'd "invoke Godwin's Law within the first ten seconds". This ultimately leads up to: Blues: "This ISN'T the internet, you fascist Nazi pigdog!" Napalm Man: "You lose."
  2. Film.God Bless America: One of the people Frank sees on TV is a Glenn Beck clone who loves to invoke this, complete with an image of Barack Obama's face photoshopped onto a Nazi.
  3. Literature.Zhirinovskys Russian Empire: In one scene, a UIS diplomat accuses his Estonian counterparts of being Nazis.
  4. HitlerAteSugar.Live Action TV: QI discussed the trope at one point, along with Godwin's Law. Stephen Fry is of the opinion that anybody who uses this trope immediately loses whatever argument they were having. Hitler liked that therefore it's bad. Or Hitler didn't like that therefore it's good. Hitler, for example, was massively opposed to fox hunting; he thought it was cruel and terrible. And so, he banned it. So, therefore, it must be right... that's just a mad argument.
  5. Characters.South Park Elementary School Staff: Everyone Has Standards: He's a douche, but he would never use his progressive views to try and get laid. He even calls in a meeting with the other PC bros to tell them that doing so is insincere and manipulative. By Season 21, he's started to get sick of Cartman constantly demanding he help him feel better about himself in school. Season 25 shows he does not appreciate it when the students compare him not giving them whatever it is they want to Nazi Germany and he's repeatedly told them not to trivialize the Nazis by doing so.
  6. Funny. The Nostalgia Chick 2012 Episodes: After a cool rant about the stupidity of Godwin's Law, she then goes on to bring back her hatred of cats and explain how they're like Hitler.
  7. Creator.Michael Bay: Megan Fox compared him to Hitler in an interview, although in the dictator sense more than anything else.As described under Doing It for the Art, he prefers practical effects as much as possible, because he feels the results look better when the props and the sets and the vehicles are actually real. For Ambulance, Bay was proud that most of the stunts in the movie were done for real with minimal bluescreen, and while there is some CGI scenes, he wasn't happy with how they turned out.
  8. WebVideo.Contra Points: Even has a "Batman"-inspired cartoon sound effect. However, since several videos look at fascism and alt-right arguments, Godwining will happen from time to time.
  9. Literature. The Troop: Mad Scientist: Dr. Clive Edgerton, the man who genetically modified a tapeworm into a Zerg-like monstrosity. He's actually compared to Joseph Mengele.
  10. VideoGame.Marvel Ultimate Alliance: The special conversation between Captain America and the holograph of Nanite-infected Nick Fury. To be fair, the two of them literally had fought Hitler's Nazis together. But when Fury states that the Fold would bring an end to all future wars, Cap responds: Captain America: Right, once you've taken everything over. Pretty sure I've heard that one before... from an old German acquaintance of ours.
  11. YMMV.V For Vendetta: Some contemporary reviewers find the idea of "concentration camps" for homosexuals, eradicate homosexuality even as an abstract concept, etc. to be sort of an invocation of Godwin's Law by comparing Thatcher's Britain to Nazi Germany. However, in the early 1980s one of Margaret Thatcher's advisors did indeed make the suggestion, as a public health policy, that all gay men should be put into quarantine in closed institutions as a strategy to stop the spread of HIV infections. Alan Moore's Word of God says this aspect of the dystopia was a direct commentary on the implications of such proposals. The real life idea never took off.
  12. YMMV.Breaking Bad: Memetic Psychopath: Walt's infant daughter Holly is jokingly made out by fans to be the most evil character in the show and frequently compared to Adolf Hitler.
  13. WebAnimation.Bonus Stage: The Devil Is a Loser: Satan is a droning bore, ranting on and on about absolutely nothing. His idea of torture includes watching Time Squad 24/7 or eating his mom's spaghetti. Even Hitler couldn't handle that. Joel: You are the worst. Satan. Ever.
  14. WebVideo.Truncated Power Rangers: Invoked in Episode 24, and lampshaded via caption. Also used in episode 32.
  15. Fanfic.Reunions Are A Bitch: Adar actually blames the Tau'ri (the current leaders of the IOA) for Nazi Germany.
  16. ComicBook.X Factor 2006: In the Quick and the Dead one-shot, Quicksilver rails against his own actions up to that point by bringing up a certain Austrian dictator. He is then berated by a hallucination of Magneto for it.
  17. Characters. The Other Side Of The Spectrum People And Ponies On Earth: Some of the other characters explicitly compare her to Adolf Hitler.
  18. Series. The State Within: Mark reminds a Jew that discrimination is wrong by invoking this (the actor who plays him, Jason Isaacs, is himself Jewish).
  19. Series. The Gruen Transfer: The first episode of the 2010 series included a discussion of the use of Adolf Hitler in advertising.
  20. Fanfic.Deserving: Chapter 6 has Marked Ones explicitly likened to Holocaust victims.
  21. VindicatedByHistory.Music: The band was regularly panned by music critics during The '70s, due to their pomp and general goofiness. Then-renowned music critic Dave Marsh even called them "the first truly fascist rock band." After their disco-centric 1982 album Hot Space flopped, they were more-or-less written off as relics of '70s flamboyance and excess (although they did have a hit in 1984 with "Radio Ga Ga"). However, their monumental performance at Live Aid in 1985, Freddie Mercury's early death in late 1991 and their 1975 hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" from A Night at the Opera appearing in the popular 1992 comedy Wayne's World caused a major resurgence in the band's popularity, with many critics seriously reconsidering their prior dismissal of the band. They are now almost unanimously considered to be one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
  22. Film.Annie Hall: "What's with all these awards? They're always giving out awards! Best Fascist Dictator: Adolf Hitler!"
  23. ComicallyMissingThePoint.Comic Strips: Candorville: In this strip, Lemont can't think of a topic to write an article about, then mentions that Dr. Kevorkian just got released from prison. Susan assumes he's going to try to kill himself, and says he takes Writer's Block too hard. In particular, Lemont thinks about his reputation solely in terms of how he's thought of on startrektalk.com. He's less angry about being called the reincarnation of Hitler than about someone's saying that his favorite captain was Janeway.
  24. Fanfic.Calliopes Update Girl: Index entry or ZCE
  25. Characters.Glengarry Glen Ross: Angrish: Aaronow has such a bad case of this in his first scene that half his dialogue is in Angrish. Later on, after he's been talking to the detective, he has another serious attack of it: Aaronow: I mean Gestapo tactics... I mean Gestapo tactics... That's not right... No man has the right to... "Call an attorney," that means you're guilt... you're under sus... "Co...," he says, "cooperate" or we'll go downtown. That's not... as long as I've...
  26. Literature.Song Of Solomon: In-universe, Guitar tries to cite the Nazis' actions as proof that Whites are inherently evil.
  27. CowboyBeBopAtHisComputer.Live Action Films: Matrisciana's 2001 video Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged goes so far as to try to play the Nazi card. At one point in the video, Matrsciana tried to link Harry with Nazism because the lightning bolt, the shape of his scar, "was used by Hitler sometimes." (The logo of the SS was meant to be two stylized lightning bolts shaped like S's.) Lightning bolt + occult + Hitler = Harry Potter is a devil-worshipping Nazi!!! By that logic, all of these people are just as guilty of promoting Nazism as Harry Potter.
  28. InsultBackfire.Real Life: When President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe (Hyperinflation dude, also responsible for turning the country around from its high standard of living among Africa to its current state) was compared to Hitler, he had this to say: "This Hitler has only one objective: justice for his people, sovereignty for his people, recognition of the independence of his people and their rights over their resources? If that is Hitler, then let me be a Hitler tenfold."
  29. Recap. The A Team S 2 E 21 Deadly Manuevers: When Murdock is dragged into the barn where the team are being held, Face shoots the remark at their captors, "Give our best to the Third Reich!"
  30. Recap.Crazy Ex Girlfriend S 2 E 10 Will Scarsdale Like Joshs Shayna Punim: Of course. Rabbi Shari: The sweet and the bitter! Crowd: Remember that we suffered! Naomi: Streisand and Hitler! Crowd: Remember that we suffered! Rabbi Shari: Spielberg and Hitler! Crowd: Remember that we suffered! Naomi and Rabbi Shari: Have we mentioned Hitler? I'm just saying that we suffered!
  31. Film. What About Bob: After dropping Siggy in the lake, Leo turns and sees both the Guttmans floating out in a boat near him, and Mrs. Guttman screams the word "Hitler!" at him, all for the "crime" of buying the house they wanted.
  32. Awesome. The Daily Show With Jon Stewart: February 13th: Jon takes the argument about "a war of religion" and some pastor on Fox News failing Godwin's Law and goes utterly berserk with it. Do not invoke Hitler Ate Sugar to a liberal Jew unless you want to get spanked on international television. The whole rant is beautiful, but the one line that summarizes the whole thing: "You've confused a war on your religion with not always getting everything you want." How about the time he called out the Republicans on the contraception issue and influenced Democrats like Harry Reid to go on the offense about it?
  33. Recap.Gilmore Girls S 04 E 02: Lorelai tries to do this to herself in an attempt to cure Rory of her bout of "mama's girl"-ness. Rory: Do something to make me hate you! Lorelai: Um... "go, Hitler"?
  34. WebVideo.Angry German Kid: Internet comments on this video are usually littered with Hitler references.
  35. Homestuck.Tropes A To L: Apropos the Condesce's world takeover and humans being herded into aquatic slums. Jake quips about "Sea Hitler".
  36. Literature. The New American Dictionary: Nazi noun 1. A person with an opinion differing from yours. See communist, shill.
  37. Film.If Footmen Tire You What Will Horses Do: Pirkle claims that communists are worse than Hitler because the Nazis supposedly killed people mercifully whereas communists torture. Obviously, the notion that the Nazis never used torture is a fantasy on par with Holocaust denial. And yes, the Soviets certainly used torture too, but the point is that that alone is not something which made them different from the Nazis.
  38. Fanfic.Embers Vathara: The dragons, including Shidan interpreted the airbender genocide as acting against deserters. In other words, if there had been Embers-verse dragons in America IRL during The '60s, they would have helped Richard Nixon slaughter every protester at Kent State. If they'd been... elsewhere... a couple of decades earlier... And in both cases, some of them might figure out that they'd committed atrocities decades later. Let's just say that dragons don't make good neighbors for humans.
  39. Recap.Runaways 2017 S 01 E 05: When Alex argues in favor of saving Andre from PRIDE he mentions he's Just Following Orders from Darius, which leads Gert to compare that defense to the one argued by Nazis.
  40. YMMV.Earthlings: Audience-Alienating Premise: Aside from the lack of subtlety in its message, the documentary's equating modern human society with Nazis and farming/eating animals with the Holocaust would be incredibly off-putting (if not downright enraging) to a number of people.
  41. Funny.Zero Punctuation 1: Yahtzee begins by making a Mad Libs Dialogue version of 1 Timothy 6: 10: They say that money is the root of all evilnote It's actually "The love of money is the root of all evils.", but somehow I doubt Mrs. Hitler was being impregnated by a roll of Deutsche Marks. The saying works better if you replace "money" with "rich businessmen in tight suits who won't even put twenty cents in a gumball machine if they can't expect a return of investment" and "evil" with "bland, samey action-adventure clones kneeling on the bed of a dried-up watering hole licking the dirt for moisture." (And "is" with "are," if we want to be grammatically correct.)
  42. Webcomic.Sandra And Woo: Parodied. Larisa seems convinced that this is a sound strategy to convince the soccer team to elect Sandra as captain, because a Jewish student cheated in a previous game. Unsurprisingly, the comments section is disabled for that particular comic.
  43. Pantheon.Villainous Success And Failure: Former members of the Council of Five: Practically Joker, Stupid Evil And Damn Proud Of It, Resents Being Given Rulership Of Australia, Facial Horror (Mr Rictus), Nazis, There To Show Mr Rictus' Group Is Worse (The Future)
  44. Literature.Go Set A Watchman: Scout compares Atticus to Hitler during their confrontation. Atticus just smiles.
  45. Characters.Vegan Artbook: Hypocrite: They see no difference between Jews and pigs, consider everyone who disagrees with them brainwashed by the system, parasites and evil, have no problem with murdering those who disagree with them or enabling it... and break Godwin's Law often.
  46. YMMV.Lensman: When the series started, eugenics hadn't been discredited by association with the Nazis yet, so aliens "encouraging" Earth's best and brightest to make babies with each other was seen as the proper thing for Sufficiently Advanced Aliens to do. Ironically, it doubles as In-Universe values dissonance; the aliens see no moral issue with trying to make humanity do this.
  47. Characters.Revolution Z: As is bound to happen, what with him being a jerk of a principal and a German teacher, he gets called a fascist and one time Bobby draws a Hitler mustache and comb-over on his portrait.Being a Germanophile, he also knows how to invoke it to Pesheva when she replaces him and proves to be an even more tyrannical principal: Tsekov: Damn Führer, that one!... You want a war, huh? You Göbbels.
  48. Memes.Live Action TV: Glenn Beck has Nazi tourettes!
  49. Funny.Joueur Du Grenier: Code bleu (on Project Hospital)The nurse (played by Sorina-chan) is sick of being overworked and proposes a fitting name for the hospital. Nurse: I propose "Last Day Hospital" or "Final Breath Hospital". Intern: Doesn't it sound a bit… gloomy? No one will want to come… Nurse: Exactly. The doctor (played by Seb) is essentially channeling Dr. Cox. (to the government -sent manager announcing she's being Kicked Upstairs): You're still here? I thought you'd commit suicide in your bunker before defeat.
  50. DarthWiki.Daylight: Manipulative Bastard: The Wolf. He started the fire that killed Limper's pack, thus turning him against humans and making him the perfect pawn. Fridge Brilliance and possibly Fridge Horror when you realise there have been historic events in which a fire had a major role, such as the fire that Emperor Nero blamed Christians for, and the Reichstag fire that was blamed on Communists, helping Hitler achieve power. Who's to say the Wolf wasn't behind these?
  51. Series.Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: John argues that the relationship between the American taxpayer and the IRS should be this. They're not a likable institution, and it sucks having to deal with them, but at the end of the day they are here to help you and it's not their fault that taxes are high or overly complicated. They definitely don't deserve to have their budget slashed by 20%, or to be compared to the Gestapo, or to be forced to wipe down checks soaked in mustard.
  52. Website.Above Top Secret: Even more so than other forum-based sites. Godwin's Law is just as pervasive, if not more so, than the Dirty Commies accusations.
  53. Creator.JK Rowling: Used in her essay on Scottish independence when she compared some separatists to the Death Eaters after they accused her of not being Scottish enough to express an opinion.
  54. BeamMeUpScotty.Theatre: Another in-universe occurrence is in the musical Bye Bye Birdie. Having become frustrated with her fiancé, Rose makes the following remark about men: "They're all alike - from puberty to senility, from Benedict Arnold to Mussolini." Kim overhears Rosie and later truncates the quote in front of her parents: "Rosie was right! Men are all alike - from puberty to Mussolini!" (This causes her father, Harry, to complain about his daughter using such words in front of him.)
  55. Music. The Clash: The lines "If Adolf Hitler flew in today/They'd send a limousine anyway" in "(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais" actually work because the song is about Nazi skinheads ruining an all-night reggae concert.
  56. YMMV.Duke Nukem: Values Dissonance: Whilst Duke Nukem Does the Internet is well known for its Values Resonance, Duke mentions anarchists and druggies alongside Nazis, racists, homophobes and other unsavory types. With more people knowing more about Anarchism and the backlash to the War on Drugs, Duke mentioning those two groups alongside Nazis, racists, and homophobes seems like a case of Godwin's Law, or at the very least reactionary.Though this is downplayed in that Duke's respect towards people of different skin colors and ethnicities, respect towards people who are women (even though he is a little too forward when it comes to flirting with the opposite sex), and also respect for people of different sexual orientations is surprisingly progressive for the 1990's.
  57. Theatre.Jeffery Bernard Is Unwell: Alluded to. Jeffrey: They always say they mean well. Hitler probably meant well...
  58. MoralEventHorizon.Tabletop Games: Stefan Amaris is perhaps the only person in-universe who has been directly compared to Adolf Hitler. .. in fact, it wouldn't be surprising if a 3025 version of Godwin's Law actually named "Amaris' Law". His crossing of the horizon came when he executed the entirety of the Cameron family, and then left their bodies to rot in the throne room where they were executed.
  59. Series. That Mitchell And Webb Look: Comes up as two debaters compare each other to Stalin and Hitler respectively.
  60. JustForFun.The Grand List Of Forum And Community Laws: Godwin's Law: As the length of a thread approaches infinity, the probability of a comparison involving Adolf Hitler or the Nazis approaches 1. Corollary: Outside of a small number of specific topics (for example, discussion of the British National Party), making such a comparison automatically loses the debate. Noob Corollary: The alternative to Hitler and Nazis is to call opponents "noobs". While this doesn't usually cause the user to instantly lose the argument, there's a decent chance they're not going to win anyway (moreso if they invoke this when calling someone a noob makes no sense).
  61. Series.Red Eye With Greg Gutfeld: Catchphrase: Greg:"And if you disagree with me, then you, sir. Are worse. Than HITLER! It's true." "If you disagree with me, then you're a racist, homophobic, (fill-in-the-blank)-ophobe." He often opened the Mail Time with "You write, I read..." followed by something involving blood or awesomeness, such as "You write, I read, then I run you over in a dune buggy made of FIRE!" Andy Levy often says, "I apologize for nothing," while Gutfeld "apologizes for everything." "Shut up, Bill" is one for both Greg and Andy. Mike Baker lampshaded this during the show Andy hosted, expressing his surprise that Andy 21 minutes before uttering that phrase.
  62. Webcomic.Xkcd: Referenced and parodied in this strip. Also, the suggested a screen consisting entirely of Hitler's face with flashing eyes would be preferable to Vista. Done in the Alt Text of this strip. The establishment doesn't take us seriously. You know who else they didn't take seriously? Hitler. I'll be like him, but a GOOD guy instead of... In "Every Major's Terrible" the singer compares choosing an academic major to Sophie's Choice.
  63. WebAnimation.Terrible Writing Advice: Says in "Giving Criticism" that it is okay for a critic to compare a writer to any number of authoritarian leaders throughout history (with Adolf Hitler implied), and that the writer will totally take the critic seriously because of it. In "Propaganda", JP encourages comparing the viewer's hypothetical online opponent to Hitler regardless of what they've actually said, even referencing the trope by name.
  64. WarpThatAesop.Tropes: Any malicious or misleading argument can be lead back to Small Reference Pools of utter bastards, and nothing else in History class is worth retaining. Any comparison of an individual to a horrible tyrant or his regime (no matter how legitimate the comparison) is automatically invalid. It's okay to compare real oppression to being disagreed with or corrected. Learning and applying history makes you a bad debater.
  65. GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff.Comic Books: In the Brian Michael Bendis graphic novel Jinx, two guys talk about Hasselhoff and why he (and his music) is so popular: "I don't know, man, I keep hearing he's, like, huge in Germany and shit, as big as Elvis..." "Oh! Well, that's two good ideas the Germans have had: putting people into ovens, and listening to that shit. You'll excuse me if I don't go running out to buy it on their say so."
  66. Website.Know Your Meme: "Godwin's Law"
  67. Literature.Pandoras Star: Invoked when preparations for a Commonwealth Navy are deliberately modelled after the Third Reich's initial workaround of the treaty of Versailles.
  68. Recap.Mash S 1 E 7 Bananas Crackers And Nuts: Hawkeye tells Henry, "Every time you go, he [Frank] turns into instant Hitler." Although, given that the Korean War started only five years after the end of World War II, the reference would probably come across as less tired in the show's time period.
  69. Literature.Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep: Broken Aesop: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is somewhat divisive, with two very different interpretations and resulting reactions. On the one hand, Roger Ebert compared Deckard to "A Nazi measuring noses", and AI advocates compare the story to The Birth of a Nation for AI. On the other hand, many take away from the story the moral that the difference between appearance of a thing and the actuality of its identity (emotion/compassion apparently being the deontological decider for humanity) are moot: "If it talks, speaks, and thinks like a person, it is a person." It also questions if there is a difference between sentience and programmed routine, and what constitutes self-awareness. What, after all, is the difference between an AI given the ability to simulate emotion via Transferable Memory, and Deckard's wife experiencing artificial emotion from her empathy box?
  70. Funny.Todd In The Shadows 2013 Episodes: "In the 90s, we had the boy band wars, which was a terrible time for music, but ultimately, both sides ended up destroyed. I choose to liken it to World War II. Both Nazism and Stalinism threatened the free world, but ended up fighting each other, leaving one defeated and the other unable to do more than burn itself out trying to keep up over the next few decades. Now I do realize that I can say controversial things sometimes, but I think we can all agree, comparing the Backstreet Boys to Hitler is entirely accurate and proportional."
  71. ComicBook.Winter Soldier: Defied by Bucky, who thinks that if he has to compare everything to fighting Nazis, he won't be able to complain about anything.
  72. TheAvengers.Tropes E To L: Invoked, appropriately enough, by Captain America, who compares Loki to the man he dealt with "the last time I was in Germany." He may technically have been referring to Red Skull rather than Hitler but they were both Nazi and he could be referring to both of them. Same by the elderly German in the same scene who refuses to kneel. Elderly man: There are always men like you.
  73. GenreTurningPoint.Live Action TV: In 1968, American network ABC was a distant third to its rivals CBS and NBC. Unable to compete with their news departments' coverage of the Democratic and Republican Party conventions that summer, ABC News instead hosted a series of debates between two intellectuals and bitter ideological rivals, the conservative William F. Buckley Jr. and the leftist Gore Vidal. The insults flew fast and furious — among other highlights, Vidal called Buckley a "crypto-Nazi", to which Buckley responded by calling Vidal a "queer" and threatening to punch him in the face. On that stage, the modern image of the Pompous Political Pundit, and the format for the "talking head" political Talk Show, arrived on television in the form of Buckley and Vidal with their back-and-forth insults, while ABC and its news department went from a perennial also-ran to a major player in American television, joining CBS and NBC as one of the Big Three networks.
  74. UsefulNotes.German Language: EI / AI: Pronounced like in "guy". It's Heil, not Hiel. EY and AY are old-fashioned spellings that still occur in many names (see below).
  75. NationalStereotypes.Eastern Europe: Because of its unusual religious tolerance at certain points in history, Jews flocked to Poland and so Jews have made up a large portion of the Polish population for a long time. Poland had the largest Jewish population in the world until, well, those Nazis again. There was a massive post-war emigration and a lot of the Polish Jews ended up in America (and Israel — during the first 20-30 years of its existence, Knesset debate would sometimes be held in Polish as angry MKs of Polish origin lapsed into their native tongue). Perhaps because of that, most of the Polish people who float around in the American cultural consciousness are of Jewish descent and identify mostly with Jewish culture (Isaac Bashevis Singer, Jerzy Kosinski, etc.) so there tends to be some conflation between Jewish and Polish stereotypes in the American media.
  76. Literature. The Secret Agent: Adaptation Name Change: The 2016 mini-series changes the main character's name from "Adolf" to "Anton". While it's not uncommon to do this - Adolf being an uncommon name these days that might arguably distract audiences from the story - what's interesting is the 1996 film chose not to do so.
  77. Theatre.Rope: A discussion of Nietzsche and Brandon believing in the concept of supermen prompts the response "so did Hitler" from David's father.
  78. UsefulNotes.American Newspapers: CounterPunch: Founded by Alexander Cockburn (who had previously worked for The Nation) in 1994, it covers politics and social issues with a heavily left-wing stance. It has over time made its radical and staunchly leftist credentials loud and clear, considerably more so than The Nation. On the other hand, its tendency for hosting anti-Semitic screeds and the crankier sides of the left-wing, along with a very confrontational if not fervent overtone in its journalismnote Which includes comparing figures like George W. Bush to Hitler among other things has made it infamous.
  79. VisualNovel.Daughter For Dessert: An in-universe example that is off the internet. When Heidi tries to take the car keys from a very drunk MC, he calls her a “Nazi bitch.” Needless to say, she is less than pleased when he shows up again, and she repays the insult by charging him double for drinks.
  80. Creator.Philip K Dick: Beware the Superman: Dick suggested this from time to time, but rarely had the opportunity to write about it, as John W. Campbell preferred to compare Mutants to Persecuted Intellectuals. Dick had a different opinion, which resulted in The Golden Man. Dick: Here I am also saying that mutants are dangerous to us ordinaries, a view which John W. Campbell, Jr. deplored. We were supposed to view them as our leaders. But I always felt uneasy as to how they would view us. I mean, maybe they wouldn't want to lead us. Maybe from their superevolved lofty level we wouldn't seem worth leading. Anyhow, even if they agreed to lead us, I felt uneasy as to where we would wind up going. It might have something to do with buildings marked SHOWERS but which really weren't.
  81. Anime.Yu Gi Oh 5 Ds: Ambiguously Brown: Roman, who has no discernible ethnic background, is always depicted with a medium to dark brown skin tone. This may be an attempt to skirt Godwin's Law given Roman's blond hair, blue eyes and decidedly German name, or simply to provide an interesting visual contrast with his younger brother and obscure his familial relationship until he reveals it himself in episode 46.
  82. Recap. With This Ring Episode 93: Somewhat deconstructed. Raquel doesn't want to hear any of Paul's arguments about how Overgirl hasn't actually committed any crimes and could be redeemable, since Overgirl is literally a Nazi, and that's enough for Raquel to conclude that she's evil. Paul: The point is, though she would take part in a genocide if asked, she never has. Likewise, she hasn't ferreted disabled people out of hiding to send them to the camps because there aren't any. She hasn't had the opportunity to do the evil she'd be willing to do. What she's actually done is crime fighting and disaster relief. So is she evil- Raquel: Yes. Paul: -or a good person working for an evil state?
  83. Recap.Breaking Bad S 1 E 3 And The Bags In The River: Jesse sarcastically shouts "Heil Hitler, bitch!" with a Nazi salute to Walt after the latter berates the former for not following his instructions.
  84. JustForFun.Rickroll: The more obvious variants include (e. g. the "Barack Roll", right around the time Barack Obama was elected president) and the "Reich Roll" (because of course).
  85. DarthWiki. How Not To Write An Example: Always have lot's of conversation. Yeah! Always add two or more asterisk to you’re example and make sure to place it between other examples with two or more asteroid. Surely, that won’t mess up anything with the context of any examples before or after Have to agree with that! Totally! Who can deny it? I have to disagree. You know who else disagreed? Hitler! Are you saying you're the same as Hitler? That reminds me of this one time, at band camp... Hey, why'd you stop your story? I really want to hear about what happened at your band camp. We all know what happened at band camp. Hey, you guys forgot to incrementally indent your replies.
  86. WMG.Real Life Archive One: In truth, the Islamic extremists are destroying Islam's reputation to the rest of the world. Not that I ever cared for religion, anyways, but it's harsh to hate a different culture because of some mind-screwed people. Or else, we would be hating Germany because of Hitler!Godwin's Law is a conspiracy by competent reasoners to prevent the tubes of the internets from clogging with fallacies!
  87. WorseThanItSounds.TV Tropes: Godwin's Law: I'm no Nazi!
  88. Film.Sweet Movie: Miss Canada: Hitler! Dirty Jew!
  89. Woobie.Live Action TV: 'Allo 'Allo!: Has two surprising woobies, one is a gay Nazi and the other is a Gestapo agent. Yes, that's right, Godwin's Law notwithstanding, people who watch this show do feel sorry for Lt. Gruber and Agent von Smallhausen. To be fair though, they can't help that they are citizens of Nazi Germany, who have ended up serving their country in the occupied France.
  90. OvershadowedByControversy.Real Life: Graham Linehan, once best known for creating the sitcoms Father Ted and The IT Crowd, has had his reputation tainted by his virulent anti-transgender views, including comparing trans activists to Nazis and trying to have a £500,000 grant for the trans support charity Mermaids UK revoked. His anti-trans views resulted in the permanent suspension of his Twitter account and his wife divorcing him.
  91. Web Video.FUDW: In the episode concerning "D.W. Blows the Whistle", Matt states that Arthur saying that D.W. sometimes gets carried away is like saying Hitler once got carried away in Poland. In "DW MEETS HER MATCH", Matt says that anyone who makes D.W. look heroic in comparison (like Cora) deserves a special place in Hell alongside Hitler… (and Barney the Dinosaur).
  92. UsefulNotes.George HW Bush: Defector from Decadence: Wrote a scathing letter and terminated his long-time membership in the National Rifle Association after an NRA statement denounced government law-enforcement agents as "jackbooted thugs".
  93. Angrish.Webcomics: In Penny and Aggie, Aggie publicly accuses Penny of blowing off a date with Duane "because he's Black." When Penny asks her to repeat that, Aggie, realizing the enormity of what she's just said, falters for a moment ("Because he's... Because... you're not...") but then comes back at her with "BECAUSE HE'S BLACK! BECAUSE YOU'D NEVER BE SEEN WITH A BLACK MAN! YOU'RE TOO GOOD FOR HIM TOO GOOD FOR ANYONE WITH YOUR BLONDE LITTLE BLONDE YOU'RE WORSE THAN HITLER!"

  96. YMMV.Stereolab: Vindicated by History: When Cobra and Phases Group first came out, it was hit with criticism from critics, but nowadays it's often viewed as a solid album. In fact, in some cases you can actually see the critics changing their mind on the album: Sometime after July 2019, AllMusic completely rewrote their review of the album, bumping its rating from two-and-a-half stars (out of five) up to four. NME utterly slagged on the album, with a review that opens "Well, you have to admit they’re good at what they do. But then so was Hitler." But before the year was over, they warmed up enough to rank it as #42 on their best albums of 1999 list.
  97. Characters.Frozen50s Man: He uses the phrase by name when it turns out the Q he's been working for is actually a living, breathing Nazi and not a heroic American freedom fighter working in secret from within the government.

  99. TopGearUK.Tropes D To G: Subverted in Jeremy and James' "Grosser vs. Corniche" competition. James talks down Jeremy's Grosser by listing the names of several infamous dictators who owned his car including; Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro, Hirohito, Mao Tse Tung, and Pol Pot. Played straight in the UK Convertible segment of Series 2, Episode 8, where a woman in the audience in the audience compliments the design of the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet, and Jeremy says "Hitler designed it, you do know that, don't you?".
  100. Literature. The Arts Of Dark And Light: Great Offscreen War: The war against the Witchkings a number of centuries back, which broke the back of the kingdoms of the elves and enabled the rise of Amorr and Savondir as the main great powers of the setting. Whether seen as history (by the humans) or living memory (by the elves), everyone still recognizes how important it was. In the setting, it's treated much like World War II is in real life, as a great defining political and cultural event, and the Witchkings are still invoked in rhetoric as the one supreme great evil, much like a sort of fantasy version of Godwin's Law.
